This paper develops a mathematical model to investigate the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection dynamics. The model includes two transmission modes (cell-to-cell and cell-free), two adaptive immune responses (cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) and antibody), a saturated CTL immune response, and latent HIV infection. The existence and local stability of equilibria are fully characterized by four reproduction numbers. Through sensitivity analyses, we assess the partial rank correlation coefficients of these reproduction numbers and identify that the infection rate via cell-to-cell transmission, the number of new viruses produced by each infected cell during its life cycle, the clearance rate of free virions, and immune parameters have the greatest impact on the reproduction numbers. Additionally, we compare the effects of immune stimulation and cell-to-cell spread on the model's dynamics. The findings highlight the significance of adaptive immune responses in increasing the population of uninfected cells and reducing the numbers of latent cells, infected cells, and viruses. Furthermore, cell-to-cell transmission is identified as a facilitator of HIV transmission. The analytical and numerical results presented in this study contribute to a better understanding of HIV dynamics and can potentially aid in improving HIV management strategies. Tumor immune escape refers to the inability of the immune system to clear tumor cells, which is one of the major obstacles in designing effective treatment schemes for cancer diseases. Although clinical studies have led to promising treatment outcomes, it is imperative to design theoretical models to investigate the long-term treatment effects. In this paper, we develop a mathematical model to study the interactions among tumor cells, immune escape tumor cells, and T lymphocyte. The chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy is also described by the mathematical model. Bifurcation analysis shows that there exists backward bifurcation and saddle-node bifurcation when the immune intensity is used as the bifurcation parameter. The proposed model also exhibits bistability when its parameters are located between the saddle-node threshold and backward bifurcation threshold. Sensitivity analysis is performed to illustrate the effects of different mechanisms on the backward bifurcation threshold and basic immune reproduction number. Simulation studies confirm the bifurcation analysis results and predict various types of treatment outcomes using different CAR T-cell therapy strengths. Analysis and simulation results show that the immune intensity can be used to control the tumor size, but it has no effect on the control of the immune escape tumor size. In this paper, we incorporate immune systems containing Cytotoxic T lymphocyte and humoral immunity into a general human immunodeficiency viruses infection model, which also considers logistic growth for target cells and both modes of spread, cell-to-cell and cell-free represents, by linear functions. We derive five threshold parameters which are used to study the existence of equilibria. By considering the characteristic equations, the local stability of disease-free and immune-free equilibria is investigated. Lyapunov functions and LaSalle's invariance are constructed to prove the global stability of all steady states. Global dynamics of the human immunodeficiency viruses model can be accurately expressed by threshold parameters; also the existence of Hopf bifurcation is discussed and the results are expressed in the form of a proposition. In the course of reverse transcription, drug-sensitive strain can mutate to a drug-resistant one. Cell-to-cell transmission is proved to be more efficient than virus-to-cell infection. The population of Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes (CTLs) can be divided into CTL precursors and CTL effectors. Naive CTL precursors are those that never have contacted antigen, circulating around the body. Once the host is infected, CTL precursors (CTLp) begin to proliferate and differentiate into CTL effectors (CTLe), which have antiviral activity. In this paper, we study an HIV model with drug-sensitive and drug-resistant mixed strains, CTLp and CTLe, both viral and cellular infections. The basic reproduction ratios for each strain are derived and the stability of each feasible equilibrium is analyzed by using Routh–Hurwitz criteria. The periodic solutions may occur near the equilibrium with CTL immune response via Hopf bifurcation. In this paper, we study a mathematical model of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection. We present a compartmental mathematical model involving healthy hepatocytes, infected hepatocytes, non-activated dendritic cells, activated dendritic cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes. The derivative used is of non-local fractional order and with non-singular kernel. The existence and uniqueness of the system is proven and its stability is analyzed. Then, by applying the Laplace Adomian decomposition method for the fractional derivative, we present the semi-analytical solution of the model. Finally, some numerical simulations are performed for concrete values of the parameters and several graphs are plotted to reveal the qualitative properties of the solutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Individuals infected by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are under oxidative stress due to the imbalance between reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and elimination. This paper presents a mathematical model with the cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) immune response to examine the role of ROS in the dynamics of HIV infection. We classify the equilibria of the model and study the stability of these equilibria. Numerical simulations show that incorporating ROS and CTL immune response into the model leads to very rich dynamics, including bistable phenomena and periodic solutions. Although the current antiretroviral therapy can suppress viral load to the undetectable level, it cannot eradicate the virus. A high level of ROS may be a factor for HIV persistence in patients despite suppressive therapy. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and human T-lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I) are two retroviruses that infect the susceptible CD 4 + T cells. It is known that HIV and HTLV-I have in common a way of transmission through direct contact with certain body fluids related to infected individuals. Therefore, it is not surprising that a mono-infected person with one of these viruses can be co-infected with the other virus. In the literature, a great number of mathematical models has been presented to describe the within-host dynamics of HIV or HTLV-I mono-infection. However, the within-host dynamics of HIV/HTLV-I co-infection has not been modeled. In this paper, we develop a new within-host HIV/HTLV-I co-infection model. The model includes the impact of Cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) immune response, which is important to control the progression of viral co-infection. The model describes the interaction between susceptible CD 4 + T cells, silent HIV-infected cells, active HIV-infected cells, silent HTLV-infected cells, Tax-expressing HTLV-infected cells, free HIV particles, HIV-specific CTLs and HTLV-specific CTLs. We first show the nonnegativity and boundedness of the model's solutions and then we calculate all possible equilibria. We derive the threshold parameters which govern the existence and stability of all equilibria of the model. We prove the global asymptotic stability of all equilibria by utilizing Lyapunov function and LaSalle's invariance principle. We have presented numerical simulations to illustrate the effectiveness of our main results. In addition, we discuss the effect of HTLV-I infection on the HIV-infected patients and vice versa. In clinical practice, many cirrhosis scores based on alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels exist. Although the most recent direct acting antivirals (DAAs) reduce fibrosis and ALT levels, the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is not always removed. In this paper, we study a mathematical model of the HCV virus, which takes into account the role of the immune system, to investigate the ALT behavior during therapy. We find five equilibrium points and analyze their stability. A sufficient condition for global asymptotical stability of the infection-free equilibrium is obtained and local asymptotical stability conditions are given for the immune-free infection and cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) response equilibria. In this paper, we incorporate immune systems into an HIV model, which considers both logistic target-cell proliferation and viral cell-to-cell transmission. We study the dynamics of this model including the existence and stability of equilibria. Based on the existence of equilibria, we focus on the backward bifurcation and forward bifurcation. Considering the stability of equilibria, Hopf bifurcation is discussed by identifying the basic reproduction number R 0 as bifurcation parameter. The direction and stability of Hopf bifurcation are investigated by computing the first Lyapunov exponent. Specially, the effects of immune response on the basic reproduction number R 0 and viral dynamics are addressed by deriving the sensitivity analysis. As a result, we find that the removal rate of infected cells by cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), γ 1 , is the predominant factor of R 0 . However, we conclude from numerical results that it is unfeasible to decrease R 0 by increasing the value of γ 1 constantly. Numerical simulation is also presented to demonstrate the applicability of the theoretical predictions. This paper investigates the stochastic HTLV-I infection model with CTL immune response, and the corresponding deterministic model has two basic reproduction numbers. We consider the nonlinear CTL immune response for the interaction between the virus and the CTL immune cells. Firstly, for the theoretical needs of system dynamical behavior, we prove that the stochastic model solution is positive and global. In addition, we obtain the existence of ergodic stationary distribution by stochastic Lyapunov functions. Meanwhile, sufficient condition for the extinction of the stochastic system is acquired. This paper studies a mathematical model for the interaction between tumor cells and Cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) under drug therapy. We obtain some sufficient conditions for the local and global asymptotical stabilities of the system by using Schur–Cohn criterion and the theory of Lyapunov function. In addition, it is known that the system without any treatment may undergo Neimark–Sacker bifurcation, and there may exist a chaotic region of values of tumor growth rate where the system exhibits chaotic behavior. So it is important to narrow the chaotic region. This may be done by increasing the intensity of the treatment to some extent. Moreover, for a fixed value of tumor growth rate in the chaotic region, a threshold value γ 0 is predicted of the treatment parameter γ. We can see Neimark–Sacker bifurcation of the system when γ = γ 0 , and the chaotic behavior for tumor cells ends and the system becomes locally asymptotically stable when γ > γ 0 . In this paper, we study a fractional-order model with time-delay to describe the dynamics of Ebola virus infection with cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) response in vivo. The time-delay is introduced in the CTL response term to represent time required to stimulate the immune system. Based on fractional Laplace transform, some conditions on stability and Hopf bifurcation are derived for the model. The analysis shows that the fractional-order with time-delay can effectively enrich the dynamics and strengthen the stability condition of fractional-order infection model. This paper studies the dynamical behavior of an HIV-1 infection model with saturated virus-target and infected-target incidences with Cytotoxic T Lymphocyte (CTL) immune response. The model is incorporated by two types of intracellular distributed time delays. The model generalizes all the existing HIV-1 infection models with cell-to-cell transmission presented in the literature by considering saturated incidence rate and the effect of CTL immune response. The existence and global stability of all steady states of the model are determined by two parameters, the basic reproduction number () and the CTL immune response activation number (). By using suitable Lyapunov functionals, we show that if , then the infection-free steady state is globally asymptotically stable; if , then the CTL-inactivated infection steady state is globally asymptotically stable; if , then the CTL-activated infection steady state is globally asymptotically stable. M. M. Hadjiandreou, R. Conejeros and V. S. Vassiliadis ( Math. Biosci. Eng. 4 (2007) 489-504) proposed an ODE model of long-term HIV infection dynamics. This model considers all important population compartments including macrophages, latently-infected CD4+ T cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), which in many respects is novel in the field of mathematical modeling of HIV infection. The purpose of the paper is to simplify their model into a five-dimensional HIV dynamics model, and give a detailed classification on the existence of the equilibria of the reduced model by introducing four reproductive numbers. Then the global asymptotic stability of each equilibrium is analyzed by constructing suitable Lyapunov functions.
