Psychodermatology is a subspecialty of dermatology that is of increasing interest to dermatologists and patients. The case for the provision of at least regional psychodermatology services across Europe is robust. Psychodermatology services have been shown to have better, quicker and more cost‐efficient clinical outcomes for patients with psychodermatological conditions. Despite this, psychodermatology services are not uniformly available across Europe. In fact many countries have yet to establish dedicated psychodermatology services. In other countries psychodermatology services are in development. Even in countries where psychodermatolgy units have been established, the services are not available across the whole country. This is especially true for the provision of paediatric psychodermatology services. Also whilst most states across Europe are keen to develop psychodermatology services, the rate at which this development is being implemented is very slow. Our paper maps the current provision of psychodermatology services across Europe and indicates that there is still very much more work to be done in order to develop the comprehensive psychodermatology services across Europe, which are so crucial for our patients. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a disease that can have a high impact on quality of life, especially due to itch and skin pain. This paper utilizes expertise from members of the International Society of Atopic Dermatitis (ISAD)/Oriented Patient‐Education Network in Dermatology (OPENED) task force to review the epidemiology, pathophysiology and exacerbating factors of itch and pain in atopic dermatitis. General principles of treatment are provided, as well as a more detailed evaluation of topical and systemic therapies. Educational and psychological approaches to itch and pain in atopic dermatitis are proposed, along with expert recommendations for the management of itch and pain in atopic dermatitis. Background The use of patient-reported outcome measures in electronic format has been increasing. However, these formats are usually not validated or compared with the original paper-based formats, so there is no evidence that they are completed in the same way. Objectives To compare the conventional paper version with a web-based application ( iPad®) version of the Dermatology Life Quality Index ( DLQI) to assess equivalence of scores. Methods The study employed a randomized crossover design using a within-subjects comparison of the two formats of the questionnaire. International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research ( ISPOR) guidelines were followed. Participants aged over 18 years with any confirmed skin condition were recruited from a teaching hospital dermatology outpatient clinic. Expected intraclass correlation coefficient ( ICC) was 0·9 (α = 0·05). Results A total of 104 patients were recruited, median age 53·5 years (interquartile range 37·3-67·8; 43% male). The ICC showed high concordance between the total DLQI scores from paper and iPad versions ( ICC 0·98; 95% confidence interval 0·97-0·99). Patients took a median of 78 s to complete the electronic version and 73 s for paper ( P = 0·008): 76% preferred the electronic version and perceived completion to take a shorter time. Conclusions There is high concordance and thus equivalence between the iPad and paper versions of the DLQI, with an ICC of 0·98, and a clear patient preference for the iPad version. Background Bibliometrics refer to documents and citation-based measures that measure different aspects of performance of a journal, including impact, output and prestige. Objective The aim of this study was to collect bibliometric data of various Indian dermatology journals as well as Indian journals from other disciplines, in order to compare relative performances. Methods Journal metrics pertaining to various Indian journals, both from dermatology [Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology (IJDVL), Indian Journal of Dermatology (IJD), Indian Dermatology Online Journal, Indian Journal of Pediatric Dermatology and International Journal of Trichology] and other disciplines [Indian Journal of Medical Research (IJMR), Indian Journal of Pediatrics (IJP), Indian Journal of Ophthalmology and Indian Journal of Pharmacology] were sought. Data pertaining to the following 8 metrics during the year 2021 was collected: Journal Impact factor, SCImago Journal Rank, h5-index, Eigenfactor score and normalized Eigenfactor Score, Journal Citation Indicator, Scimago Journal and Country Rank H-index, CiteScore and Source Normalized Impact per Paper. Results Among Indian dermatology journals, for the year 2021, IJDVL had the highest impact factor (2.217) and h-index (48). IJD led in terms of prestige metrics such as SCImago Journal Rank (0.403), Eigenfactor score (0.00231) and Source Normalized Impact per Paper (1.132). IJDVL underperformed with respect to an average dermatology journal on all three prestige metrics. Among selected journals from other disciplines, two (IJMR and IJP) had impact factor exceeding five, despite lagging behind IJDVL two years ago. Most had normalized scores exceeding 1, indicating better performance than an average journal from their respective fields. Limitations Non-inclusion of altmetrics related data Conclusion IJDVL is one of the leading Indian journals in the field of dermatology, followed closely by IJD. A rise in IJDVL influence is evident over the past decade, as evident by various metrics. However, the progress still trails behind the average of global dermatology journals as evident by the field-normalized journal metrics, indicating potential for further growth of journal influence. Acne causes profound negative psychological and social effects on the quality of life (QoL) of patients. The European Dermatology Forum S3-Guideline for the Treatment of Acne recommended adopting a QoL measure as an integral part of acne management. Because of constantly growing interest in health-related QoL assessment in acne and because of the high impact of acne on patients’ lives, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Task Force on QoL and Patient Oriented Outcomes and the Task Force on Acne, Rosacea and Hidradenitis Suppurativa have documented the QoL instruments that have been used in acne patients, with information on validation, purposes of their usage, description of common limitations and mistakes in their usage and overall recommendations. The classification of self-inflicted skin lesions proposed by the European Society for Dermatology and Psychiatry (ESDaP) group generated questions with regard to specific treatments that could be recommended for such cases. The therapeutic guidelines in the current paper integrate new psychotherapies and psychotropic drugs without forgetting the most important relational characteristics required for dealing with people with these disorders. The management of self-inflicted skin lesions necessitates empathy and a doctor-patient relationship based on trust and confidence. Cognitive behavioural therapy and/or psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy (alone, or combined with the careful use of psychotropic drugs) seem to achieve the best results in the most difficult cases. Relatively new therapeutic techniques, such as habit reversal and mentalization-based psychotherapy, may be beneficial in the treatment of skin picking syndromes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Treatment with Hedgehog Inhibitors in Gorlin‐Goltz syndrome (GGS) yields favourable objective clinical responses, yet secondary resistance and class‐related toxicity restrict treatment duration. This study aims to review current data on GGS patients undergoing vismodegib therapy, focusing on treatment duration, clinical outcomes and schedule modifications. A systematic search of the PubMed database was conducted for English articles from 1993 to 2023, identifying 31 papers suitable for inclusion. A total of 351 patients, with a mean age of 52 years, were analysed. The average treatment duration was 9.3 months for patients who discontinued treatment, and 25.1 months for those who continued vismodegib at the time this study was published. Vismodegib achieved a complete response rate of 44%. Treatment interruption predominantly occurred due to side effects (69.1%) and secondary resistance (9.1%). The use of alternative regimens, although not compromising efficacy, may enhance treatment compliance. Further investigations are warranted to ascertain the optimal treatment regimen and timeline for GGS patients. Hyaluronic acid (HA), as one of the main components of the extracellular matrix (ECM), plays an important role in the process of wound-healing and tissue-repair processes due to its unique properties and different physiological functions. HA has an ability to maintain a moist environment that promotes healing, the stimulation of growth factors and cellular constituents, and the migration of various cells essential for healing. This paper offers a review of HA use in the process of wound healing, with emphasis on hard-to-heal wounds, and examines its various applications in ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology. It proves HA to be a versatile agent which finds its use in various fields of medicine for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial properties and accelerated wound healing. The field of dermatology is experiencing the rapid deployment of artificial intelligence (AI), from mobile applications (apps) for skin cancer detection to large language models like ChatGPT that can answer generalist or specialist questions about skin diagnoses. With these new applications, ethical concerns have emerged. In this scoping review, we aimed to identify the applications of AI to the field of dermatology and to understand their ethical implications. We used a multifaceted search approach, searching PubMed, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library and Google Scholar for primary literature, following the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews guidance. Our advanced query included terms related to dermatology, AI and ethical considerations. Our search yielded 202 papers. After initial screening, 68 studies were included. Thirty-two were related to clinical image analysis and raised ethical concerns for misdiagnosis, data security, privacy violations and replacement of dermatologist jobs. Seventeen discussed limited skin of colour representation in datasets leading to potential misdiagnosis in the general population. Nine articles about teledermatology raised ethical concerns, including the exacerbation of health disparities, lack of standardized regulations, informed consent for AI use and privacy challenges. Seven addressed inaccuracies in the responses of large language models. Seven examined attitudes toward and trust in AI, with most patients requesting supplemental assessment by a physician to ensure reliability and accountability. Benefits of AI integration into clinical practice include increased patient access, improved clinical decision-making, efficiency and many others. Introduction: Soft tissue fillers are widely used and are commonly considered to be safe. Nonetheless, adverse events such as late inflammatory reactions (LIRs) are reported for every type of filler. As of the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, LIRs have been reported after SARS-CoV infection or vaccination. In the past, we reviewed these adverse events; however, since then, we faced a wave with the Omicron, and the vaccination programs continued with booster vaccines. We therefore aimed to perform an up-to-date review of the literature on LIRs after COVID-19 infection and vaccination with additional learned lessons from this pandemic. Material and methods: We performed a systematic review on soft tissue filler-related LIRs after SARS-CoV-2 infection or vaccination in line with the PRISMA guidelines. Eligible studies were searched in the database PubMed from 1 August 2021 until 1 June 2023. Data on patient characteristics, filler characteristics, clinical findings, and treatment options were retrieved. Results: A total of 14 papers with in total 52 patients were reported, of which 16 had adverse events after a SARS-CoV-2 infection and 36 after SARS-CoV-2 vaccination. In most cases, it concerned females who had their (mostly temporary) fillers for cosmetic purposes. Symptoms were reported in a matter of hours up to weeks after SARS-CoV-2 vaccination (22 Pfizer, 7 Moderna, 3 AstraZeneca, 3 Sputnik V, and one after Siophram), mostly after the first or second dose but sporadically after a third dose. Most patients were treated in a conservative manner. Discussion: LIRs continue to be reported after SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination and are currently also reported for non-mRNA vaccines, for non-temporary fillers, and also after a third dose of the vaccine. Although there are more and more papers on this matter, they remain minor and self-limiting. Dermatitis is reported from slimicides added to wood pulp slurry in a paper mill. The active constituents of the slimicides involved were bis-l,4-bromoacetoxy-2-butene and 2,3-dichloro-4-bromotetrahydrothiophene-1,1-dioxide. In the field of alopecia areata research, various focuses including risk factors, epidemiology, molecular pathways, and treatment were constantly improving. However, to date, a bibliometric analysis summarizing the research trend is not available to date. The main objective of this study was to provide researchers with an overview of the research trend on alopecia areata in the past two decades. In Web of Science database, screening and extraction of studies related to alopecia areata has been performed. Within studies related to alopecia areata, the most cited 100 studies were appraised and the information of articles, including the citation amounts, keywords and publication types, was extracted for analyses. On average, each study in the top 100 list was cited 104.72 times. Within the top 100 list, the most focused fields were on the management of alopecia areata (34%), molecular mechanisms (28%) and epidemiological issues (23%). Approximately one third of the management-associated studies focused on Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors (10 studies) and 5 studies focused on the efficacy of corticosteroids for alopecia areata. According to the results of the keyword analysis, JAK inhibitors had become the most mentioned keywords in the field of alopecia areata research since 2016. The top 100 most referenced papers in the field of alopecia areata mostly focused on essential aspects such as treatment options, pathogenesis, risk factors, and comorbidities. Many events, including the COVID‐19 pandemic, have accelerated the implementation of teledermatology pathways within dermatology departments and across healthcare organizations. Quality of Life (QoL) assessment in dermatology is also a rapidly developing field with a gradual shift from theory to practice. The purpose of this paper organized jointly by the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Task Force (TF) on QoL and patient‐oriented outcomes and the EADV TF on teledermatology is to present current knowledge about QoL assessment during the use of teledermatology approaches, including data on health‐related (HR) QoL instruments used in teledermatology, comparison of influence of different treatment methods on HRQoL after face‐to‐face and teledermatology consultations and to make practical recommendations concerning the assessment of QoL in teledermatology. The EADV TFs made the following position statements: HRQoL assessment may be an important part in most of teledermatology activities; HRQoL assessment may be easily and effectively performed during teledermatology consultations. It is especially important to monitor HRQoL of patients with chronic skin diseases during lockdowns or in areas where it is difficult to reach a hospital for face‐to‐face consultation; regular assessment of HRQoL of patients with skin diseases during teledermatology consultations may help to monitor therapy efficacy and visualize individual patient's needs; we recommend the use of the DLQI in teledermatology, including the use of the DLQI app which is available in seven languages; it is important to develop apps for dermatology‐specific HRQoL instruments for use in children (for example the CDLQI and InToDermQoL) and for disease‐specific instruments. Background: The precise effect and the quality of different cases used in dermatology problem-based learning (PBL) curricula are yet unclear. Aim: To prospectively compare the impact of real patients, digital, paper PBL (PPBL) and traditional lecture-based learning (LBL) on academic results and student perceptions. Methods: A total of 120 students were randomly allocated into either real-patients PBL (RPBL) group studied via real-patient cases, digital PBL (DPBL) group studied via digital-form cases, PPBL group studied via paper-form cases, or conventional group who received didactic lectures. Academic results were assessed through review of written examination, objective structured clinical examination and student performance scores. A five-point Likert scale questionnaire was used to evaluate student perceptions. Results: Compared to those receiving lectures only, all PBL participants had better results for written examination, clinical examination and overall performance. Students in RPBL group exhibited better overall performance than those in the other two PBL groups. Real-patient cases were more effective in helping develop students' self-directed learning skills, improving their confidence in future patient encounters and encouraging them to learn more about the discussed condition, compared to digital and paper cases. Conclusion: Both real patient and digital triggers are helpful in improving students' clinical problem-handling skills. However, real patients provide greater benefits to students. The article presents the summaries of papers on dermatology presented at the main plenary sessions. The National Health Service (NHS) Plan 2000 proposed the development of specialist general practitioners (GPs) to take referrals from other GPs in specialties including dermatology. The NHS Modernization Agency Action on Dermatology program funded pilot site studies of dermatology GPwSI, services and preliminary results were encouraging. By the end of 2005, all referrals from primary care will be performed electronically using a referral template. Currently only a proportion of referrals are electronic, allowing comparison with established paper referrals.

Abstract: Biological agents are widely used in rheumatology, dermatology and inflammatory bowel disease. Evidence about their efficacy and safety has been strengthened for all those therapeutic indications over the last decade. Biosimilar agents are monoclonal antibodies similar to previously approved biologics. In the European Union, they have been approved for all the indications in the management of immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs), although data only in rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis are currently available. Direct evidence on efficacy, safety, and immunogenicity of biosimilars is mandatory in psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease, as well as in children. Based on the current evidence in the literature, we present the joint official position of the Italian Societies of Rheumatology, Dermatology and Inflammatory Bowel Disease on the use of biosimilars in IMIDs. The Nikolsky sign is one of the first diagnostic terms the trainee dermatologist learns for assessing a bullous disease. However, little is known about the life and work of the prominent Russian dermatologist Pyotr Vasilyevich Nikolsky himself. Nikolsky was born in 1858 in Usman in the Tambov gubernatorial region of Russia. Epidemiological studies have always played an important part in dermatology. No other disease has linked the triad of geographic distribution, genetic predisposition and prevalence more so than Behçet's disease, a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by recurrent oral and genital ulcers.

The article presents the summaries of papers related to dermatological surgery. The reported frequencies of dermatological malignancies in Great Britain population suggests an incidence of 125 basal cell carcinomas, 27 squamous cell carcinomas and 7 malignant melanomas per 100 000. Another study reports that the number of patients attending the researchers' melanoma screening clinic since its inception in 1997 has increased fourfold. This is in contrast to the number of melanomas diagnosed, which has remained constant. During that time, 15000 patients have attended and 500 melanomas have been diagnosed; 18 melanomas have been missed.

The longest follow-up study of oral retinoids for disorders of keratinization (DOK) up to now is 10 years. The aim of the study was to assess long-term disease response and side-effects in a cohort of patients with DOK, who were among the first in the world to commence oral retinoids 25 years ago.

Congenital melanocytic naevi occur in 0.6-1.6% of newborns, but the exact incidence of giant congenital melanocytic naevi within the paediatric population is unknown. These rare cutaneous hamartomas of naevomelanocytes, often defined as a lesion, 20cm in diameter, are usually covered with hair. Soft tissue sarcomas are rare and both dermatologists and surgeons are unlikely to encounter many during their career. It is thus essential that physicians remain alert to these tumours as they behave aggressively.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) accounts for at least 15% of referrals to secondary care dermatology, often requiring multiple visits and occupying much valuable time and resources. The researchers audited the usefulness of two quality-of-life measures, the Infants Dermatitis Quality of Life index (IDQOL) and Dermatitis Family Impact (DFI), which are easy to use in a routine clinical setting. A retrospective study on allergic contact dermatitis in children was conducted in Great Britain. 503 children were identified who had undergone patch testing consecutively in the reserchers' department between the years 1995 and 2004. This represents the largest study of children who have undergone patch testing in Great Britain.

Poor adherence is frequent in patients with atopic dermatitis ( AD), leading to therapeutic failure. Therapeutic patient education ( TPE) helps patients with chronic disease to acquire or maintain the skills they need to manage their chronic disease. After a review of the literature, a group of multispecialty physicians, nurses, psychologists, and patients worked together during two international workshops to develop common recommendations for TPE in AD. These recommendations were structured as answers to nine frequently asked questions about TPE in AD: What is TPE and what are its underlying principles? Why use TPE in the management of AD? Who should benefit from TPE in AD? How can TPE be organized for AD? What is the assessment process for TPE in AD? What is the evidence of the benefit of TPE in AD? Who are the people involved in TPE? An autoimmune subset of chronic spontaneous urticaria is increasingly being recognized internationally, based on laboratory and clinical evidence that has accrued over the last 20 years. This evidence has been reviewed by a taskforce of the Dermatology section of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. Functional autoantibodies in chronic urticaria ( CU) patient sera have been demonstrated against Ig E and Fcε RIα by basophil and mast cell histamine release assays and by basophil activation assays. Antibody specificity has been confirmed by immunoassay, but there is a poor correlation between functionality and immunoreactivity. Approximately 25% of CU patients have a positive basophil histamine release assay and show autoreactivity (a positive autologous serum skin test), whereas 50% are negative regarding both. Functionality of CU sera appears to be complement dependent on mast cells but not exclusively on basophils. Basophil activation by CU sera is predominantly restricted to Ig G1 and Ig G3 subclasses. Circumstantial evidence for CU being an autoimmune disease comes from an observed association with other autoimmune diseases, a strong association between serum functionality and HLA- DR4 haplotype and the good response of CU patients to immunotherapies. It was proposed that a study should be undertaken to prospectively validate potentially relevant clinical criteria (from the history, examination and routinely available clinical investigations) against a new 'gold standard' for the diagnosis of ACU (positive autoreactivity, functional bioassay and immunoassay) to define preliminary criteria sets for the diagnosis of ACU based on clinical and laboratory features with highest individual sensitivity and specificity. Introduction: Academic dermatologists in Australia and New Zealand provide high‐quality and meaningful contributions to the understanding of disease and therapeutic translational research. Concerns have been raised by the Australian Medical Association regarding the decline of clinical academics in Australia as a whole, however, such trends in scholarly output have not previously been analysed for Australasian dermatologists. Methods: A bibliometric analysis of dermatologists in Australia and New Zealand was conducted in January and February 2023. Available Scopus profiles for all dermatologists were used to measure lifetime H index, scholarly output, citation counts and field‐weighted citation impact (FWCI) in the last 5 years (2017–2022). Trends in output over time were measured using non‐parametric tests. Differences in output between subgroups stratified by gender and academic leadership positions (associate professor or professor) were measured using Wilcoxon rank‐sum and one‐way ANOVA tests. The scholarly output of recent College graduates was also analysed as a subgroup, comparing the same bibliographic variables in the 5 years preceding and 5 years following awarding of their fellowships. Results: From the 463 practising dermatologists in Australia and New Zealand, 372 (80%) were successfully matched to Scopus researcher profiles. Of these dermatologists, 167 were male (45%) and 205 (55%) were female, and 31 (8%) held academic leadership positions. Most dermatologists (67%) published at least one paper in the last 5 years. The median lifetime H index was 4, and between 2017 and 2022 median scholarly output was 3, the median citations were 14 and the median FWCI was 0.64. There was a non‐significant trend towards fewer publications per year, however, citation count and FWCI decreased significantly. By subgroups, female dermatologists published significantly more papers between 2017 and 2022, and other bibliographic variables were comparable to male dermatologists. However, women were underrepresented in positions of academic leadership—comprising only 32% of this cohort despite representing 55% of dermatologists. Professors were also significantly more likely to have higher bibliographic outcomes than associate professors. Finally, analysis of recent College graduates highlighted a significant decline in bibliometric outcomes pre‐ and post‐fellowship. Conclusion: Overall, our analysis identifies a trend towards decreased research output by dermatologists in Australia and New Zealand in the last 5 years. Strategies to support dermatologists in research endeavours, particularly women and recent graduates, will be essential in maintaining strong scholarly output among Australasian dermatologists and thereby sustaining optimal evidence‐based patient care. Medical students from the country conducted a survey to evaluate final year medical students' experience of dermatology. Another study conducted a retrospective review on the use of azathioprine in a childhood population over an 8-year period. Furthermore, a retrospective study on all skin surgical specimens processed by the teaching hospital hispathology department for 3-month period is conducted.

The article presents research summaries related to dermatological surgery in Great Britain. It includes an evaluation among doctors if they informed their patients on their level of training in skin surgery before performing a practical procedure. In another study, pulsed dye laser treatment has been depicted to have a low incidence of adverse events. Moreover, a case series on the results of treatment for hidradenitis suppurativa having carbon dioxide laser is presented.

The article presents research summaries related to dermatopathology in Great Britain. In one of the studies, it aims to increase the awareness of prototheca wickerhamii which causes neutropenic sepsis after a chemotherapy. Another study reports a case of histiocyctic sarcoma having secondary skin involvement and a presumed primary in the lung. Furthermore, a case report on symplastic haemangioma which is developing on a background of chronic leg ulcer is given.

The article presents several summaries related to health studies in the Great Britain. It has been proven that there is growing risk of skin cancer with the use of artificial tanning devices. On the hand, the prevalence of and characteristic of polymorphic light eruption (PLE) in a larger cohort of the healthy British population has been assessed. Moreover, a case report concerning solar urticaria with a carrier state for erythropoietic protoporphyria is presented.
