Abstract

The article presents a study on two-photon excitation to stimulate and image neural circuits in the U.S. Rafael Yuste and colleagues at the Columbia University proposed a new method for stimulating individual neurons and monitoring neural circuit activity using a two-photon excitation through an infrared laser in studying the structure and function of neural circuits. The researchers photostimulated a single neuron by photocleaving caged glutamate at a high laser intensity wherein the free glutamate caused the neuron to start several action potentials.

Abstract

The article reports on the photodetection capabilities of plasmonic lens. Researchers at the Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. were able to enhance the capability of plasmonic lens, specifically a metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM), through corrugating the metal contacts of MSM without affecting the speed of the operation of the device.
