Abstract Background: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) causes sterility by affecting the reproductive system. Vitamin B12 improves sperm quantity and function. Objective: Vitamin B12 protection against H. pylori adverse effects was investigated. Materials and Methods: 40 C57 male mice (6 wk) were randomly assigned to 4 equal groups (n = 10) including, group 1 (control without any intervention), group 2 (H), 3 (HP), and 4 (HB) received 1 × 109 colony forming unit (CFU) of H. pylori, 1 × 109 CFU of H. pylori+phosphate buffered saline, 1 × 109 CFU of H. pylori+50 μ g/kg vitamin B 12 intraperitoneally, respectively. In the induction groups, the H. pylori was orogasterically injected 3 times with 1 cc phosphate buffered saline throughout the day. Then testicular metrics, sperm motility, viability, quantity, and shape, plasma levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and total antioxidant capacity were measured. Also, testicular-tissue changes were examined using Johnson scores, tubular differentiation index, and spermatogenesis index. Vitamin B12, homocysteine, and testosterone serum levels were examined. Results: The results showed a significantly lower Johnson score, tubular differentiation index, and spermatogenesis index, and serum level of testosterone and homocysteine as well as a higher MDA level in the H and HP groups than the HB group (p < 0.05). In contrast, the highest superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase enzymes activity and total antioxidant capacity as well as the lowest serum level of MDA were found in the HB group compared to other groups (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Vitamin B 12 increased antioxidant enzyme activity, enhanced sperm parameters, and decreased injury to testicular tissue. It can be used as a potent antioxidant in reducing testicular damage induced by H. pylori.

Introduction: Herbal medicines are commonly used by many people with diabetes in addition to standard treatment. Plants contain numerous known and unknown compounds that may exacerbate or ameliorate diabetes complications. Therefore, it is crucial to be aware of the side effects of these herbs before prescribing them. This study aimed to investigate the effects of hydroalcoholic extracts of Securigera securidaca (HESS) seeds alone and in combination with glibenclamide on the angiogenic/anti-angiogenic balance in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Methods: Groups involved in this animal study included diabetic and healthy controls, three doses of HESS, glibenclamide, and combination therapy. Serum samples were collected and analyzed for a vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), fetal liver kinase 1 (FLK-1), soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 (sFLT-1), and transforming growth factor -beta (TGF-β). Results: Induction of diabetes increased VEGF, FGF21, and TGF-β serum levels and decreased circulating FLK-1 and sFLT-1 factors. Herbal extract, except TGF-β, had little effect on the above blood levels even at the highest doses. Glibenclamide was more effective than the highest dose of HESS in improving the vascular complications of diabetes. Combination therapy with the highest dose of HESS partly enhanced the glibenclamide effects. Conclusion: Compared with glibenclamide as a standard chemical drug, HESS had no significant effects on the blood levels of the pro/anti-angiogenesis factor in diabetic rats. Glibenclamide attenuated the levels of the biomarkers and its effects were somewhat enhanced in combination with the highest dose of HESS.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of endurance, resistance, and Concurrent endurance and resistance training on fat oxidation and fatigue levels in obese diabetic rats. A total of forty overweight rats (average weight of 380 ± 50 g) were randomly assigned to five distinct groups. Diabetes was induced through peritoneal administration of Streptozotocin at a dosage of 55 mg/kg body weight. Endurance training was conducted via moderate-intensity treadmill running (50%-70% of maximum running capacity) for a duration of eight weeks, with sessions lasting one hour per day, five days a week. Resistance training involved ladder climbing at 50-70% of maximum load, also for eight weeks, with five sessions per week, comprising 15 climbs per session and a one-minute rest interval between climbs. The Concurrent training regimen alternated between treadmill and ladder exercises. Levels of CPT1 and CPT2 were quantified using rat CPT1 and CPT2 ELISA kits, both prior to and 48 hours following the training period. Fatigue indices were assessed as well. All three training modalities significantly influenced CPT1 levels (F=93.35, P=0.001) and led to a notable increase in CPT2 levels (F=26.76, P=0.001). Additionally, significant alterations in fatigue indices were observed (F=26.12, P=0.001). The findings suggest that aerobic, resistance, and Concurrent training regimens can enhance metabolic function and prolong the duration until fatigue in elderly diabetic rats. Nonetheless, the extent of these improvements is somewhat contingent upon the specific type of exercise performed, with aerobic and Concurrent training demonstrating a more pronounced effect compared to resistance training.

Introduction: Bisphenol A (BPA), a ubiquitous synthetic monomer primarily used in the manufacture of polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resins and as a non-polymer additive to other plastics, can leach into the food and water supply and has been linked to cardiovascular disease (CVD). This study aimed to analyze BPA levels in patients with varying numbers of coronary artery stenosis and evaluate the prognostic value of new biomarkers cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36) and heart-type fatty acid-binding protein (H-FABP), compared to troponin I and creatine kinase (CK) MB, for detecting myocardial injury. Method: Eighty nine patients undergoing angiography at Urmia Hospital from March 2019 to 2020 were included. Serum levels of BPA, CD36, H-FABP, troponin I, and CK-M were measured. Results: When comparing CD36 and H-FABP with troponin I and CK-MB across coronary occlusion classes, receiver operating characteristic curves indicated CD36 and H-FABP had higher accuracy than troponin I and CK-MB for detecting stenosis stages. In patients with occlusion, significant alterations were detected in age, sex, BMI, hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and smoking. BPA serum concentration significantly increased compared to normal subjects. Conclusions: Our study revealed that serum biomarkers were valuable for prognosticating myocardial injury. Among these, CD36 and H-FABP were more accurate. BPA concentration correlated with myocardial necrosis, underlying disease, and occlusion stage, suggesting BPA's harmful effects.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) are non-coding, single-stranded, endogenous RNAs that regulate various biological processes, most notably the pathophysiology of many human malignancies. It process is accomplished by binding to 3′-UTR mRNAs and controlling gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. As an oncogene, miRNAs can either accelerate cancer progression or slow it down as a tumor suppressor. MicroRNA-372 (miR-372) has been found to have an abnormal expression in numerous human malignancies, implying that the miRNA plays a role in carcinogenesis. It is both increased and downregulated in various cancers, and it serves as both a tumor suppressor and an oncogene. This study examines the functions of miR-372 as well as the LncRNA/CircRNA-miRNA-mRNA signaling pathways in various malignancies and analyses its potential prognostic, diagnostic, and therapeutic implications.

Wildlife habitats provide several essential services, and humans’ needs for development cause a growing conflict with wildlife. Formulating and prioritizing strategies improve conflict management and save time and costs. We used the experts’ opinions to formulate strategies. 45 management strategies were extracted that formed a decision matrix. These strategies were evaluated by 40 experts using the five-point Likert range in five criteria, i.e., productivity or efficiency, adaptability, running costs, social acceptability, and sustainability. Strategies were prioritized by forming a decision matrix and inserting it into WASPAS software. The selected strategies are “training environmentalists, waste management, empowering the local economy, modifying hunting laws, land use planning before project executions, training local communities, social-based management, training tour guides and tourists, modifying tourism-related laws, banning alien species, and road management.” Conflict is a complex phenomenon, and managing it requires multiple strategies. Therefore, combining several strategies can increase the chances of successful conflict management.

Abstract Background The persistent the inflammatory condition in multiple sclerosis (MS) may due to the aberrant regulation of the elimination of the pathogenic autoreactive lymphocytes through apoptosis. Survivin, encoded by the BIRC5 gene, has been indicated to be involved in the regulation of apoptosis. This survey intended to investigate the genetic and microRNA mediated regulation of survivin in relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) disease. Results It was observed that the C allele (OR = 1.38, 95% CI = 1.05–1.348, P = 0.022) and CC genotype (OR = 1.84, 95% CI = 1.06–3.19; P = 0.029) in the rs9904341 polymorphism increased the disease risk. Furthermore, miR-34a was significantly downregulated (Fold change = 0.41, P = 0.001) in the PBMCs from RRMS subjects. Survivin mRNA expression in PBMCs and serum survivin level were increased in RRMS patients in comparison to the controls. Downregulation of miR-34a was negatively correlated with increased survivin level. Conclusion Although the genetic polymorphism of BIRC5 gene was associated with the disease risk, miR-34a was suggested to be involved in the regulation of survivin in the RRMS patients.
