Although there may be differences in adverse event frequency, any differences in their effects on autonomic nervous system (ANS) remain unclear. Patients and methods: In total, 270 schizophrenic patients were recruited in this study: 241 received OAPs (risperidone, olanzapine, quetiapine, or aripiprazole) and 29 received LAIs (risperidone LAI, aripiprazole LAI, or paliperidone palmitate) as monotherapy. Heart rate variability was measured as an index of ANS activity, and the low-frequency (0.03–0.15 Hz) component, high-frequency (0.15–0.40 Hz) component, and total power (0.03–0.40 Hz) were calculated. Components were compared between the groups using t-tests. Results: A significant difference was detected in the low-frequency component between the OAP and LAI groups (P=0.046). No significant difference was found in total power or the high-frequency component between the two groups. Conclusion: Compared with OAPs, LAIs have fewer adverse effects on ANS activity, particularly the low-frequency component, as determined using a spectral analysis of heart rate variability. Abstract

Athletes require high levels of energy to exercise under extreme conditions. Gut microbiota supplies energy to the host; however, the mechanism how gut microbiota contribute in the athlete is unclear. In this study, we determined that gut microbiota of Japanese long-distance runners differed from that of non-athletes, and the Bacteroides uniformis cell number in the feces correlated with 3,000-m race time. Mice administrated with B. unformis extended the swimming time to exhaustion. Furthermore, acetate and propionate concentrations in the cecum increased in B. uniformis-administered mice subjected to weekly exercise. Expression levels of carnitine palmitoyl transferase la and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase genes were elevated in the liver, suggesting that acetate and propionate produced by B. uniformis improve endurance exercise performance, at least in part, through enhancing gluconeogenesis. In addition, α-cyclodextrin administration increased B. uniformis and improved the performance in humans and mice, thus it is a candidate substance enhancing exercise performance through modification of gut microbiota.

Abstract

Hashimoto In this paper, modelling and stabilisation control of a closed-link driven 2-dof inverted pendulum system is discussed, which consists of two rotary robots and four closed linkages with holonomic constraint. A complete mathematical model derived by Lagrange's equations is partially linear approximated around the operating point. Then, the modelling error is regarded as a structured perturbation and the controlled object is described as a slight non-linear model with structured additive perturbation. In order to facilitate a controller design, model reduction is performed by removing redundant dynamics. Then, the reduced order simplified model is described as a linear parameter variable (LPV) system with structured additive perturbation. Stabilisation controller with L2-gain disturbance attenuation is designed to guarantee the stability of the controlled object robustly in the range of specified perturbation by applying gain scheduling control technique developed for the LPV system. Experimental works show the effectiveness of the proposed simplified model and the stabilisation controller.

Abstract

A search for isomeric gamma-decays among fission fragments from 345 MeV/nucleon 238U has been performed at the RIKEN Nishina Center RI Beam Factory. Fission fragments were selected and identified using the superconducting in-flight separator BigRIPS and were implanted in an aluminum stopper. Delayed gamma-rays were detected using three clover-type high-purity germanium detectors located at the focal plane within a time window of 20 microseconds following the implantation. We identified a total of 54 microsecond isomers with half-lives of ~0.1 - 10 microseconds, including discovery of 18 new isomers in very neutron-rich nuclei: 59Tim, 90Asm, 92Sem, 93Sem, 94Brm, 95Brm, 96Brm, 97Rbm, 108Nbm, 109Mom, 117Rum, 119Rum, 120Rhm, 122Rhm, 121Pdm, 124Pdm, 124Agm and 126Agm, and obtained a wealth of spectroscopic information such as half-lives, gamma-ray energies, gamma-ray relative intensities and gamma-gamma coincidences over a wide range of neutron-rich exotic nuclei. Proposed level schemes are presented for 59Tim, 82Gam, 92Brm, 94Brm, 95Brm, 97Rbm, 98Rbm, 108Nbm, 108Zrm, 109Mom, 117Rum, 119Rum, 120Rhm, 122Rhm, 121Pdm, 124Agm and 125Agm, based on the obtained spectroscopic information and the systematics in neighboring nuclei. Nature of the nuclear isomerism is discussed in relation to evolution of nuclear structure.

22. Oriented periodic mesoporous organosilica (PMO) film with organic functionality inside the channel walls

Abstract

The first examples of an oriented periodic mesoporous organosilica (PMO) film, containing a variety of organic groups (ethane, ethene, benzene, thiophene) inside the channel walls, are reported. The mesostructure of the PMO film appears oriented with respect to the surface of the underlying glass substrate. Liquid-crystal topological defects in the precursor gels are replicated in the resulting PMO film and are evident in polarized optical microscopy images, recorded between crossed-polarizers, which show fan-type optical birefringence texture characteristic of the mesostructure.
