The purpose of this study is to highlight the significant differences emerging from a comparison between the perceptions of teachers and first-year students of the SVT license vis-à-vis the characteristics of the effective teacher and the teaching. 41 teachers and 290 students, from the Biology department of the Dhar El Mehraz faculty of Science, were asked to rank 60 items according to their degree of importance on a Likert scale. It has been found that students are mainly vulnerable to university entrance, opt for academic and emotional support characteristics.

Young offenders from the Fleury-Mérogis detention centre and their eating practices : forming bonds, setting oneself apart and establishing a hierarchy Since young offenders share very few activities such as educational or training workshops, relationships and hierarchies are formed through speech (calls, shouts, insults, and discussions “ just to talk”), brawls and fights. However, as we demonstrate in this paper based on a year of ethnographic fieldwork in Fleury-Mérogis Young Offenders Detention Centre, food also plays a major role in relationships through the exchange of edible goods and their display in cells as well as during mealtimes when prisoners have the opportunity to declare their tastes and proclaim who they are. Several studies have shown that a high proportion of criminal delinquents have learning disabilities. In a study started in 1993, Correctional Services of Canada examined learning disabilities as a negative element in the social reintegration of inmates. It was determined that corrective treatment of learning disorders could help the inmates reenter society. (Author/TD)

In France, more and more employees, whether they are employed by state-owned or private enterprises, readily admit they suffer from stress. Although subjected to both deep and difficult transformations, post office counter clerks do not use the word. A three-year research study with counter clerks of La Poste, led by clinical sociologists from the viewpoint of clinical sociology, invites us to question the notion of stress. To begin, the paper takes the opportunity to clarify the use that a clinical sociologist makes of this English notion usually connected with individual psychology. It then shows in which circumstances the counter clerks, including those who work in offices considered 'calm', are in fact confronted with working conditions that qualify as stressful. Finally, through clinical cases, the paper contests the North American view of stress by showing that it is essentially founded on an individual understanding of this pathology and that it abusively overlooks the collective dimension of work in its account of a real suffering. ADAPTABILITY (Personality) , *SOCIAL perception , *SELF-perception , *DEVELOPMENTAL psychology , *TASK performance , *SOCIAL psychology - Abstract
The self is a crucial component of the psychic life and plays a central role for the adaptation to the environment. In daily life, this adaptative function is ensured, inter alia, by numerous biases filtering information and favoring those which are self-related. After succinctly reviewing the most documented among them which are affective and mnesic biases, the current paper provides a critical review of literature about a bias which is supposed to be perceptive, the self-prioritization effect (SPE). That has been revealed by Sui et al. (2012, Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 38(5), 1105) with an astute matching task and consists in the fact that arbitrarily tagging shapes to a word referring to the participant (e.g., you--square) leads to faster and more accurate responses as compared to shapes tagged to a word referring to another identity (e.g., strange--circle). The methodological variations of this task and the SPE's both extension and putative origins will be presented, as well as the restrictions which border it, related to the individuals, to the experimental situation and to some more general properties of the self. Finally, some avenues for future research will be proposed, drawing some promising paths: beyond being a robust and intriguing phenomenon, SPE can indeed be considered as a convenient tool to assess some mechanisms underlying social cognition, in various fields using an experimental approach such as developmental psychology and social psychology. The Role and Dangers of Selfie Culture from a Social-Psychological Perspective During the COVID-19 Pandemic In 2013, “selfie” was named the word of the year by the Oxford English Dictionary, implying a self-portrait photograph taken by oneself using a digital camera or a smartphone, mainly to post on social media. In the past decade, selfies have become a new medium for self-expression and self-representation (Qiu et al. 2015). On social media platforms, users publish virtual self-representations that are influenced by “real-life” individual and societal changes (Hogan & Quan-Haase 2010); which is also reflected during the COVID-19 pandemic. The use of social media and self-representation in social media posts increased during the first and the second wave of the pandemic, with selfies among the most popular types of content shared (Sándor 2022a; Sándor 2022b). The goal of the current paper is to provide a concise review of the selfie phenomenon from the perspective of the COVID-19 pandemic, supported by the author's research results on self-representation and image modification on social media.

Une étude de cas portant sur un projet inspiré du nouvel urbanisme servira de fondement critique et permettra l’examen des espaces ouverts à la lumière des critères issus de la littérature., The population of adolescents living in suburban environments over urban environments is pervasive and yet remains a relatively new construct for the design professions to consider—presenting a gap in how the physical environment is designed to meet their needs. This paper discusses the basic needs of suburban adolescents and suggests how designers can improve their quality of life by creating places of retreat within their neighborhood. Values and needs specific to suburban adolescents are used to assess the quality of suburban open spaces. The focus of this paper is on the physical environment, with background supported by studies from the fields of psychology, sociology, and environmental psychology, history of urban change, and theory and practice in landscape architecture. A case study of a New Urbanism development serves as the critical basis from which real open spaces are reviewed in light of criteria drawn from the literature.

Many studies try to measure the effect of land use patterns on daily travel behaviour of individuals. Results are controlled for socio-economic differences, and sometimes socio-psychological differences, among respondents. However, these studies do not mention why after all a relationship should exist between travel behaviour and spatial, socio-economic and socio-psychological attributes. This query can be answered by combining theories in transport geography and social psychology. Doing so, this paper aims to develop a conceptual model for travel behaviour that brings together concepts such as “spatiotemporal behaviour”, “activity behaviour”, “lifestyle”, “attitudes” and “habits”. Within this conceptual model two kinds of interdependencies are highly important: (i) interdependencies between explanatory variables, causing indirect effects on travel behaviour, and (ii) interdependencies between different data levels causing a nested data-structure. Structural equation models (SEM) are generally used to estimate indirect effects, whereas multilevel analysis account for the nested data structure. The paper recommends combining both statistical techniques in order to better understand the complexity of human travel behaviour.

This paper questions the time management of pregnancies and tackles the contradiction between several temporalities. Pregnant women are entrusted with specific tasks and responsibilities for the fetus’ sake, this third shift adds up to domestic labour and in many cases to paid labour. Objectives: This paper analyzes how the legal frame and the medical control have ambiguous and unequal effects for pregnant women. Methodology: It draws on interviews and ethnographic observation conducted in the Paris’ region from 2014 to 2017. Thirty women were interviewed during their pregnancy, amongst whom 11 were interviewed twice or three times. Hospital care was observed from different places and times: registration, appointments with a midwife or obstetrician, antenatal classes. Results: The management of pregnancy assigns an individualized responsibility to women for guaranteeing the fetus’s health. Health care for women can be intensive and rests upon their permanent availability for it. This is made possible by subordinating their professional timetable to health care requirements. Employees seek to minimize the impact of their pregnancy in their workplace by separating medical time and professional time. Conclusions: Access to health care is largely effective and the legislation ensures that all pregnant women get prenatal care, which makes it at the same time an obligation for women. This obligation is more or less constraining depending on women’s resources. Measures concerning pregnant workers are not so beneficial as employers often do not abide by them, and employees only partially use them. Middle- or upper-class workers and those on the upper levels of the occupational hierarchy benefit more from these measures than others. Contribution: This paper contributes to the sociology of work-life balance, to the sociology of health and to the sociology of inequalities.

This paper is based upon participant research carried out in Vila Joanisa, a desinfranchised and poor district of São Paulo. As a social psychologist, the author has worked in Youth Centers, community-based groups both organized and coordinated by women. The aim of this paper is to discribe and discuss social humiliation, defined as a singular kind of anguish triggered by class inequality trauma. The psychological and political concepts of social humiliation were integrated into a theoretical framework informed by marxism and psychoanalisis.

Abstract: This paper reviews the present views and methods in the field of violence risk assessment. The perpetration of violent behaviours must raise the issue of the perpetrator''s psychological constitution and functioning. But being able to anticipate such dangerous deeds implies other dimensions as well: one must also consider contextual elements, “countertransferential” feelings elicited by the perpetrator in relevant individuals, and potential outcomes of the evaluation that is carried out. Nowadays, this is performed by means of so-called “Violence Risk Assessments”, using various instruments. Actuarial instruments are designed to provide a statistical estimate of future violence risk, while (semi-structured) clinical methods assist clinical professional decision-making with guidelines developed according to up-to-date knowledge in the field. The key concept of psychopathy, its measurement and implications, are also discussed, and valuable indicators are recommended, to be used both for violence risk management as well as for the development of a clinical framework on this topic. In developmental psychology, developing a sense of autonomy is claimed to be an important goal for adolescents. Nevertheless, the question of whether autonomy is always positive for adolescents is a highly debated issue. The goal of this review paper is to provide an overview of research distinguishing between two definitions of autonomy (autonomy as independence, and autonomy as self-endorsed functioning), and how this distinction helps understanding under which conditions autonomy is positive for adolescent development. Further, this paper discusses how this distinction also helps clarifying under which conditions parental rule-setting is effective or not. That is, we argue that it is important to consider the parents’ communication style (i.e., autonomy-supportive or controlling), for understanding whether adolescents will be more likely to accept or reject parental rules.

Social acceptance is considered as a very important phenomenon in the development of renewable energy projects and the accomplishment of the energy policy goals. The aim of this research is to explore the determinants of community acceptance of renewable energy technologies while focusing on consumer orientation towards these projects. A qualitative study based on a semantic analysis and a deductive approach is used to study the determinants of the phenomenon in question. This research paper concludes with the importance for more systematic studies about the phenomenon of community acceptance based on pertinent theoretical background depicted from psychology, social sciences, precise definitions, and a focusing emphasis on symbolic and emotional aspects.

Over the last few years, psychology researchers have become increasingly preoccupied with the question of whether findings from psychological studies are generally replicable. The debates have originated from some unfortunate events of scientific misconduct in the field, and they have reached a climax with the recent discovery of a relatively weak rate of replicability of published literature, leading to the so-called replicability crisis in psychology. The present paper is concerned with examining the issue of replicability in the field of social psychology. We begin by drawing a state of the art of the crisis in this field. We then highlight some possible causes for the crisis, discussing topics of statistical power, questionable research practices, publication standards, and hidden auxiliary assumptions of context-dependency of social psychological theories. Finally, we argue that given the absence of absolute falsification in science, social psychology could greatly benefit from adopting McGuire’s perspectivist approach to knowledge construction.

In Taiwan, parents are increasingly concerned about their childen’s future and deliberately invest in their future competitiveness. In a highly competitive environment where female beauty can bring many material and immaterial benefits, mothers are encouraged to transmit some aesthetic values and behaviors to their daughters. Objective : This paper aims to analyze the little-studied phenomenon of the transmission of beauty care by mothers to their daughters in the Taiwanese neoliberal context. Methodology : To do so, we mobilized a qualitative methodology based upon 70 semi-structured interviews and participant observation in Taiwan between 2014 and 2017. Results : Our research showed that, in order to maximize their chances of success in their personal, marital, professional and social life, beauty is seen by women as a decisive asset. Mothers are then held accountable to teach their daughters to take care of their physical appearance. Three dominant themes emerged from the participants’ comments regarding this aesthetic training: moderating or reducing the appetite, having white skin, having a cute behavior and appearance. Conclusions : The skills necessary for aesthetic work are learned from deliberate investment. Mothers have the responsability for this aesthetic training. This gendered and generational dimension of the training of future "aesthetic entrepreneurs" is decisive, but often invisibilized in discussions of neoliberal individualism. Contributions : Our research allows us to understand the new gendered modalities of parenting in a context where the children are considered as human capital in the making., Marco de la investigación : En Taiwán, los padres se preocupan cada vez más por el futuro de sus hijos e invierten deliberadamente en su competitividad futura.
