Este artigo mostra os resultados obtidos em um projeto de avaliação do impacto do uso de agrotóxicos sobre uma comunidade agrícola do cstado do Rio dc Janciro ativamcntc cnvolvida com o uso dc pcsticidas. A abordagem utilizada foi de avaliaçào de riscos ocupacionais e coletivos. já que além do grupo de trabalhadores ocupacionalmente cxpostos aos agrotóxicos. também foi avaliado um grupo de crianças ejovens da comunidade. alguns dos quais também trabalhadores rurais. Os resultados obtidos demonstram claramente que ocorre superexposição aos pesticidas utilizados. evidenciando agravos nào só à saúde das populações expostas. mas também ao meio ambiente.

Interactions between jets and the quark-gluon plasma produced in heavy ion collisions are studied via the angular distributions of summed charged-particle transverse momenta (p T) with respect to both the leading and subleading jet axes in high-p T dijet events. The contributions of charged particles in different momentum ranges to the overall event p T balance are decomposed into short-range jet peaks and a long-range azimuthal asymmetry in charged-particle p T. The results for PbPb collisions are compared to those in pp collisions using data collected in 2011 and 2013, at collision energy sNN−−−−√=2.76 TeV with integrated luminosities of 166 μb−1 and 5.3 pb−1, respectively, by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The aim of the present study is to demonstrate the distinctiveness of work engagement and workaholism by examining their relationships with sleep quality and job performance.A total of 447 nurses from 3 hospitals in Japan were surveyed using a self-administrated questionnaire including Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES), the Dutch Workaholism Scale (DUWAS), questions on sleep quality (7 items) regarding (1) difficulty initiating sleep, (2) difficulty maintaining sleep, (3) early morning awakening, (4) dozing off or napping in daytime, (5) excessive daytime sleepiness at work, (6) difficulty awakening in the morning, and (7) tiredness awakening in the morning, and the World Health Organization Health Work Performance Questionnaire.The Structural Equation Modeling showed that, work engagement was positively related to sleep quality and job performance whereas workaholism negatively to sleep quality and job performance.The findings suggest that work engagement and workaholism are conceptually distinctive and that the former is positively and the latter is negatively related to well-being (i.e., good sleep quality and job performance).

Changes in climate parameters such as air temperature, rainfall, and humidity may dramatically impact the occurrence of infectious diseases. Dengue fever is a prevalent disease that has been extensively reported in relatio to climate change, particularly in tropical countries such as Indonesia. In addition, the consequences of climate change may affect the physiological responses of our bodies, which could lead to a rise in hospital admissions even in tropical countries. Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) is an index to estimate the effect of air temperature, humidity, and solar radiation on human bodies. First, this study aims to investigate the influence of climatic conditions, including air temperature (AT), relative humidity (RH), and rainfall (RF), on the occurrence of dengue fever in Jakarta, Bandung, and Malang city, through a cross-correlation analysis. Second, it also explains the relationships between WBGT and general emergency hospital admissions in Indonesia and Japan. The results showed that climate conditions such as rainfall and humidity had a strong correlation with the incidence of dengue in Indonesia, with a relatively short lag of around 2-5 months in the form of negative values, while positive values were observed with a lag of 9-10 months with some exceptions in Jakarta. Extreme WBGT changes do not affect general emergency hospital admissions in both Hiroshima and Indonesian cities, although the WBGT changes clearly affected the emergency hospital admissions caused by the heat stroke in Hiroshima.

19. Scenario analysis of embodied energy and CO2 emissions for multistory apartments in Indonesia

Contribution in the building sector to the global warming can be tackled by diminishing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (mainly CO2) not only from operational energy but also from the embodied energy (EE) of construction materials. Harvested Wood Products (HWP) such as Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), Glued Laminated (Glulam) timber, among others, make multistorey wooden buildings possible. These wooden buildings could help to reduce EE and CO2 emissions significantly. A material flow analysis (MFA) using an I-O (Input-Output) table was used to compare three scenarios for an 8-story apartment building in Indonesia (total floor area: 9140 m2): First, the building had a reinforced concrete structure. Second, the building had a “hybrid” structure with reinforced concrete cores and first-floor elements, consisting of CLT floor panels, and Glulam columns and beams. Third, the building used only CLT panels besides reinforced concrete cores. The results showed that the last scenario achieved the largest CO2 emissions and embodied energy reductions (58 t-CO2 and 905 GJ), compared with the first scenario (81 t-CO2 and 1110 GJ). Furthermore, we compare two methods to apply displacement factors (DF) to assess the CO2 emissions savings for each CO2 ton in wood products substituted in place of non-wooden products between the three building scenarios.

Along with rapid urbanization, housing development increased in major cities worldwide. Public and private apartments have been constructed rapidly in Indonesia to accelerate housing provision, particularly in urbanized areas of major cities. From the early era of apartment construction to the present, many design prototypes have been implemented for various specific purposes such as energy-saving. Nevertheless, no comprehensive study has determined a typical layout of apartment buildings in Indonesia. The typical layout design is useful as the base model for building simulations. This study sought to classify the typical layout design of public and private apartments in Indonesia, using the selected building drawing data ranging from 1986 to 2021. We obtained primary data consisting of 268 public apartments from 22 cities and 268 private apartments from 9 major cities in Indonesia. To determine the typical layouts, both qualitative and quantitative analyses were conducted. As a result of this study, a pair of typical public and private apartment buildings which include the 1-bedroom unit and 2-bedroom unit types have been selected as the typical layout of the Indonesian apartment building. The results of the typical layout classification could be utilized as a standard testing model for designing future apartment building prototypes.

Behavioural adaptation is a fundamental factor in thermal comfort. Clothing insulation, opening windows, and integrating cooling systems within buildings are key to ensuring thermal comfort while conserving energy. This study collected behavioural adaptation data from 3000 Indonesian adults who regularly worked indoors. The results indicate that the thermal acceptability is in a similar range for all groups separated by residence space type despite the dominant thermal conditioning measure in each group is different. Based on ISO 9920, the typical clothing ensembles were determined for each group, and their clo-values were estimated. Office workers tended to wear more garments than factory workers, while at home, people wear light clothes. Therefore, the estimated clo-value in home are much lower compare to the workplaces clo-value. Clo-value in the workplaces with AC tends to show a higher value compared to naturally ventilated building. Clo-value for female is also higher than male. In general, AC usage in the office was higher than in factories and homes. Females tends to use more AC than Males. These differences reflect variety of socioeconomic and cultural aspects in public and private in Indonesia.

Affordable apartments in tropical developing countries generally have double-loaded corridors to maximise the total floor areas. Building designs with double-loaded corridors often suffer from poor environmental conditions. Passive design using a vertical void can help improve the natural ventilation in the such building design. This study investigates the effectiveness of vertical voids in enhancing the wind speed in the building. An experimental building with a vertical void, open pilotis, penthouse at rooftop and wind fin on the ground floor to help direct air to the void was constructed in Tegal, Indonesia. Five cases were considered by controlling the window openings, louver openings on the roof and change in fin size at pilotis. Wind speed and direction were recorded at one-second intervals. High wind speed was experienced in the pilotis and void when the wind direction is from the north and the wind speed in the void improved due to the wind fin being placed on the south corridor of the building. The results show the average wind speed in the void is twice as high as compared to the corridors. The building design performed best with high wind speeds in the void and corridores when all windows were kept open.

This study aims to determine the urban resident’s preferences and evaluation structure towards living environment in Indonesia using the Evaluation Grid Method (EGM) and analyse their associations with household energy consumption. The EGM clarifies a respondent’s evaluation structure using a hierarchical diagram. A nationwide survey (n=1355) was conducted in several Indonesian cities. Data on gas and electricity consumption were also investigated as energy consumption data. We analyzed the preferences and evaluation structure across several groups with various household energy consumptions at different scales, including behavior, interior, building and neighbourhood. The results revealed that there were several differences in preferences and sense of values among households with various levels of energy consumption. The households with high-energy consumption favoured “socialization with family, and “living in clean environment,” amongst others. For their preference in building scale, some of respondent tend to not live in an apartment. Meanwhile, those with low- and medium-energy consumption preferred similar types of buildings. Despite this, the households with medium-energy consumption ranked “building quality” and “eco-friendly environment” as their priorities.

Today, with the rapid process of urbanization, the proportion of building energy consumption will continue to increase and speed up the emission of greenhouse gases which can intensify the process of global warming. Thus, building energy conservation has become one of the essential aspects of a sustainable development strategy. A typical meteorological year (TMY) is frequently used in building energy simulation to assess the expected heating and cooling costs in the design of the building. Therefore, by considering the future alternations in climate, it is important to develop future TMY data. To generate the TMY for future climate, the projected weather dataset obtained from GCMs from the IPCC coupled inter comparison project phase 6 (CMIP6) can be helpful. However, a key issue with the use of GCM data is the low resolution and bias of the data. Thus, it is important to identify best suitable GCM for a particular region. Therefore, present study aims to evaluate the performance of 6 global GCMs from the CMIP6 for simulating the surface air temperature over the 29 major cities in Indonesia during 1980-2014. Here, dataset (MERRA-2) was utilized to compare the simulations of GCMs. Further three statistical metrics viz. correlation coefficient, standard deviation and centered root mean square error were computed to check the performance of each GCM against the reanalysis data. For most cities, the correlation coefficient values between the results of GCMs, and the reanalysis dataset ranges from 0.3 to 0.7 whereas the value of standard deviation varies from 0.3 to 1. The result revelled that among all the GCMs MPI-HR is one of the most appropriate choices to simulate the surface air temperature over 8 different cities. However, Nor-MM shows the worse performance over the cities located in Indonesia. For the future period, the input dataset from the best identified GCMs will be downscaled for the generation of TMY for future climate.

Solar radiation information is very important in green building design, namely for the daylighting, solar heat gain prevention as well for solar energy utilization. This study uses solar radiation data from six pyranometer sensors for measuring the horizontal component (global horizontal irradiance (GHI) and infrared irradiance) and the vertical component (pyranometer sensors to the north, south, east, and west) located in Tangerang, Indonesia. Measurements have been filtered for one year from January 2021 to December 2021. The solar radiation observation is complemented with other measurement of climate elements, such as wind speed and direction, dew point temperature, relative humidity, and air temperature. The diurnal and seasonal patterns of solar irradiance and other climatic elements have been observed using the visualization technique of heat maps. The results show that sensors pointing north experience an increase in solar intensity in May, June, July, and August. Meanwhile, sensors that point to the south experience the increases in solar intensity in November, December, January, and February. The increase in radiation intensity towards the east occurs from 07.00 to 10.00 local time (LT), while the increase in sensor intensity towards the west occurs from 14.00 to 16.00 LT. The results of solar radiation analysis in horizontal and vertical surfaces are combined with other climate elements to create a bio-climatic design guideline suitable for buildings in the hot and humid climate.

The fatigue properties of ultra-fine grain austenitic steel (UFG16-10), which has a 1 μm average grain size, were studied as part of the project aimed at the development of high-strength low-cost stainless steels for hydrogen service. The fatigue properties of the UFG16-10 were compared with that of a coarse grain material with the same chemical composition (CG16-10) and two kinds of commercial steels, JIS SUS316 and JIS SUH660. The fatigue strength of the UFG16-10 was 2.8 times higher than that of the CG16-10. The effect of hydrogen on the fatigue limit of the UFG16-10 was not significant. However, the fatigue life of the UFG16-10 was reduced by hydrogen in the short life regime. In the fatigue crack growth test, the UFG16-10 showed a good crack growth resistance that was equivalent to that of the SUH660 and significantly higher than that of the SUS316. However, the crack growth rate was significantly accelerated by hydrogen. The cause of the hydrogen-assisted fatigue crack growth of the UFG16-10 was transformation of the microstructure at the crack tip from austenite to strain-induced martensite. This was also the cause of the reduced fatigue life of the hydrogen-charged UFG16-10.

28. Effect of Grinding Treatment of Fly Ash on Compressive Strength of Hardened Geopolymers using Warm Press Method

In this study, starting mixed wet powders were uniaxially compressed at 200 MPa for 40 min and simultaneously heated at 200°C to form hardened bodies. Three different starting slurries composed of 100 g of fly ash powders with particles of different sizes after grinding treatment, 15 g of reagent-grade sodium, and 33.3 g of fresh water were considered. In this time, the uniaxial pressure was fixed at 200 MPa. This method is called the warm press method because the heating temperature is not as high as that in the conventional hot press sintering method used for ceramics. When ground fly ash with a diameter of 6.8 μm was used, the average compressive strength of the hardened bodies reached approximately 120 MPa. As the heating temperature and duration were increased at the fixed uniaxial pressure of 200 MPa, the compressive strength of the geopolymers increased. When ground fly ash with a diameter of 6.8 μm was used and the heating temperature and duration were 280°C and 60 min, respectively, the compressive strength of the geopolymers reached approximately 150 MPa.
