The representation of Yugoslavia and its populace in Life and Time magazines from the end of World War II until the rise of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia in 1945 and the subsequent death of President Josip Broz Tito in 1980 was characterized by fluctuations that aligned with the volatility of relations between Washington and Belgrade. The accession of the communist regime to power was viewed as a foreseeable outcome, as the population of this region of Europe, due to their impoverished and uneducated state, was believed to be ill-equipped to comprehend and embrace the concept of democracy. Consequently, individuals were selectively chosen to be depicted in a positive light when Yugoslavia was once again considered an ally following the conflict with the Cominform in 1948. Nevertheless, the representation of the Yugoslav people was brief and superficial, lacking in any true endeavor to demonstrate empathy for their situation and hardships. In spite of efforts to showcase certain favorable aspects, the representation of Yugoslavia that evolved over time in the magazines was predominantly consistent with the Cold War preconceptions that Americans associated with communism. This representation was infused with elements of nineteenth-century imperial Balkanism, indicating that Life and Time were disinclined to deviate far from the predetermined framework and societal roles assigned to them.

Cilj rada bio je istražiti jesu li i na koji način prilagođene metode poučavanja, vanjske okolnosti i unutrašnji faktori nezadovoljstva nastavnika utjecali na percepciju uspješnosti online nastave stranih jezika struke na visokoškolskoj razini. U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 60 nastavnika iz 13 hrvatskih gradova, koji su u prosincu 2020. i siječnju 2021. ispunili anketni upitnik. U radu se ispituju: (i) utjecaj prilagođenih metoda poučavanja u online nastavi (kroz prilagođene nastavne materijale, način poučavanja, način vrednovanja studenata) na percipiranu uspješnost online nastave; (ii) utjecaj vanjskih faktora (onih na koje nastavnik nije mogao izravno utjecati: broj sati, veličina grupe, podrška institucije itd.) na percipiranu uspješnost online nastave; (iii) faktori nezadovoljstva nastavnika u online nastavi. Rezultati istraživanja pokazuju da su nastavnici koji su prilagodili metode poučavanja online nastavi bili zadovolj-niji uspjehom svoje online nastave, kao i njihovi studenti. Također, pokazalo se da nepovoljni vanjski faktori kao i subjektivni faktori nezadovoljstva nastavnika nisu bitno utjecali na percipiranu uspješnost online nastave. Na kraju rada donose se preporuke za daljnja istraživanja. Istraživanje pridonosi cjelokupnoj raspravi o online nastavi jezika struke na tercijarnoj razini i nudi praktične primjere za pripremu i provedbu online nastave, izradu nastavnih materijala te praćenje i vrednovanje studenata.

In the last few years, the concept of a flipped classroom has become relevant and is increasingly being used as a teaching model. The first introduction to the teaching contents no longer takes place at school, but at the students’ home, through individual work. Teaching time is devoted to a more in-depth interpretation of the content. This paper presents the theoretical foundations of this model, the results of the previous research on the effectiveness of this model, as well as its implications in the Science and Social Studies classes. The aim of the conducted empirical research was to look at primary school teachers ‘awareness of the flipped classroom model, their attitudes about the possibilities of applying this way of working in teaching Science and Social Studies, as well as teachers’ self-assessment of their competencies for applying this model. The data were collected by an online survey of 105 teachers. The first part of the questionnaire examined teachers’ awareness of the flipped classroom model and the frequency of its use in teaching Science and Social Studies. The second part of the questionnaire provides an explanation of the flipped classroom model together with an example of a scenario for a Science and Social Studies class based on this model. Through six statements, the teachers assessed the methodological potential of this model of work, as well as their own ability for this form of work, taking into account the presented scenario and their teaching experience. The obtained results show that teachers are not fully informed about the flipped classroom model, which conditions its relatively rare application in teaching, regardless of the pedagogical experience of teachers. After offering an explanation of the flipped classroom model and an example of one Science and Social Studies lesson scenario based on it, most teachers expressed a positive attitude towards this model, pointing out its advantages in the conative-social aspect (positive impact on learning motivation, possibility of individualization, better communication between teachers and students), while they showed less confidence in the positive impact on student achievement. Teachers’ assessment of their own methodological competence for the application of this model shows that more than two thirds of teachers express the need for additional training for the application of the flipped classroom model in the first cycle of primary education.

Srpski republikanci su od osnivanja Republikanske stranke januara 1920. u Beogradu bili suočeni sa malom podrškom stanovnika jugoslovenske monarhije. Nisu se obeshrabrili u svom političkom delovanju, nego su pokušali da sarađuju sa većinom političkih grupa koje su bile ili su mogle biti bliske njihovim političkim shvatanjima i stavovima. U tom smislu okrenuli su se Hrvatskoj republikanskoj seljačkoj stranci (HRSS) Stjepana Radića, koja je od izbora za Konstituantu novembra 1920. pokazala veliku snagu u političkom životu međuratne jugoslovenske monarhije. Međutim, već tokom 1921. godine doživeli su izvesna razočaranja u pogledu delovanja Stjepana Radića i HRSS prema jugoslovenskoj državi i ideji jugoslovenstva, ali nisu odmah odustali od pokušaja saradnje. Najveća aktivnost u približavanju stavova HRSS i srpskih republikanaca odigrala se tokom 1922. godine, kada se pokazalo da saradnja nije ostvariva zbog drugačijeg cilja političkog delovanja Stjepana Radića i hrvatskih republikanaca. Odnos srpskih republikanaca i hrvatskih nacional-republikanaca analiziran je i prikazan u radu na osnovu izvora pohranjenih u Arhivu Srpske akademije nauka i umetnosti, Arhivu Jugoslavije, Hrvatskom državnom arhivu u Zagrebu, štampe, periodike i relevantne istoriografske literature.

Teachers at all levels of education must have an entrepreneurial mindset, be open to innovations and new ideas and skills to support the innovation and creativity of students, but also to work in the framework of the set standards. The goal of the research presented in this paper was to determine and analyse the structure of the grouping of future primary and preschool teachers into categories of adaptors, innovators and the so-called bridgers according to the KIA model, as well as to examine the factors of representation of the innovativeness/adaptability dimension. The sample comprised 204 students – future primary and preschool teachers. According to the results, almost a half of the respondents fall into the category of bridgers, namely persons who possess the characteristics of both innovative and adaptive cognitive styles. It was also established that students with higher academic achievement achieve better results, leaning towards adaptability. Similarly, senior year students ranked slightly higher in terms of the increased adaptability i.e. the lower the level of innovativeness. Our conclusion is that most respondents are consistent in performing their tasks; they are systematic, conscientious, responsible and committed to respecting social norms, rules and principles. On the other hand, future primary and preschool teachers should be encouraged to go beyond the set frameworks and support the change when the circumstances so require.

Акустички систем улази у пространство постојања човека и, у односу на њега, спољашњег света. У овом раду ми ћемо размотрити на које се начине у уметничком свету Чеховљевих новела може манифестовати аудитивна слика, помоћу којих аудитивних детаља писац ствара ове или оне слике у пространству својих дела. Свака новела, захваљујући скупу одређених аудитивних детаља, добија своју емоционалну позадину и ствара одређену атмосферу у делу или директно одсликава душевно стање јунака. Аудитивне слике су сачињене од разноврсних аудитивних детаља. Ту су и звуци природе, и механички звуци, и музичка дела, и „звуци” тишине. Захваљујући феномену аудитивних детаља, читалац стиче неопходну представу о многостраним и сложеним појавама описаним у књижевном делу писца.

Referring to the postulates of several theoreticians in the field of memory studies, predominantly those of Maurice Halbwachs and Aleida Assmann, this paper explores the distinction between individual and collective memory, with the aim of shedding light on the complex relationship of the two contrasting yet mutually complementing mnemonic aspects in Kazuo Ishiguro’s The Buried Giant. Interestingly enough, in his latest novel Ishiguro decided to approach memory from the perspective of its inevitable counterpart, i.e. forgetfulness. The objective of this paper is to highlight that forgetfulness, for all its seeming mental salubrity, does not have the same healing effect at the individual and collective level.

Music festivals consist of a complex of interactions and social and cultural experiences. This paper analyzes music festivals in SE Europe in their function as a planetary prouction, combining regional cross-cultural perspectives and local politics. At the beginning of the 1990s music events in SE Europe (concerts, festivals, cultural happenings) were either a part of political conflict, antagonisms and economic crises, or they were included in the music world through the cultural contacts of global achievements – the music net and industry. Music festivals become the arena and scene of a contradictory reality in these places, being made up of individual, group interests, needs, establishment strategy and politics. To illustrate this phenomenon the paper presents the biggest festivals and spectacles in Serbia and SE Europe: EXIT festival (Novi Sad) attracted thousands of techno and rock lovers with the participation of many famous bands; and the folk trumpet playing festival (Guča), which each summer for several decades has been attracting thousands of lovers of ethno sound to a fair-carnival atmosphere. This ethnological research stresses complex property divisions – lifestyle, music genres, political strategies, scene movements and economic interests.

Stories of humanitarian actions represent a specific media, and oral storytelling discourse and an instrument for the shaping of social, political and economic mirror both in the private and the public sphere. Heartbreaking stories and sensational news items about poor, ill and endangered people, translated into appeals and philanthropic actions, from their dramatic everyday lives come out into the markets of interests, competition/campaigns, performative- spectacular events and propagandas. The examples and analysis indicate the ways in which the deconstruction of narratives about humanitarian actions within the framework of multiplying communications can be approached.
