AQUATIC insects , *INSECT communities , *RECREATIONAL use of rivers , *HABITATS , *CERATOPOGONIDAE , *CHIRONOMIDAE , *COMMUNITY relations , *MAYFLIES - Abstract
This work aim verifies the response of the aquatic insect community in relation to the intensity of human recreational use, in addition, the composition in different mesohabitats present in the watercourse. The samples were made in a stream in different microhabitats in areas classified by the visitor’s use (Low, Medium and Intense) and differentiated between four mesohabitats (sand, waterfall, leaf and stone). A total of 952 individuals in nine orders and 14 families were collected. The most abundant order was Diptera (431, 45.27%) followed by Ephemeroptera (366, 38.45%). The most abundant family was Baetidae (325, 34.14%), followed by Chironomidae (237, 24.89%), Simuliidae (94, 9.87%), Ceratopogonidae (77, 8.08%) and Hydropsychidae (56, 6.09%). Regarding to human use, there was a significant difference in fauna composition. In the area with intense use there was a predominance of Chironomidae and Hydroptilidae while in the area of low use Perlidae was the most frequent. The substrate stone presented the highest number of taxa. We observed a tendency for the composition of the community to differ between mesohabitats. The specific need of each biological group reflects the occupation of habitat, presenting different numbers of individuals. We can verify that the intensity of use of the waterfalls directly affects the aquatic insect community, either by disturbance and destruction of species-specific microhabitats or by the displacement of individuals along the stream. HABITATS , *VEGETATION dynamics , *ECOSYSTEMS , *GROUND vegetation cover , *REMOTE sensing , *IMAGE analysis , *CLOUD computing , *GRASSLANDS - Abstract
Due to the cold climate and altitude, to identify trends in the dynamic vegetation and the main factors that contribute to changes in vegetation cover in grassland areas is essential to understand climate change in mountainous regions. Landsat-8 OLI and Landsat-1 MSS images from 1973 to 2022 of Morraria do Urucum and Serra do Amolar were pre-processed in the GEE cloud platform and QGIS. The resampling method per pixel in the scale of values defined for vegetation Campos de Altitude was used to show changes in vegetation cover and its dynamics through the NDVI index. In both study areas, a continuous trend of significant reduction of vegetation in highland grasslands was observed over 50 years. The average decrease was 49% for Urucum (less 2,164 hectares) and 43% for Amolar (less 3,959 hectares). The use of GHG to obtain remote sensing data combined with temporal image analysis offers the potential to quickly perceive trends in large- and small-scale vegetation cover change.

AQUATIC habitats , *AGRICULTURAL resources , *WATER use , *WATER supply , *RIPARIAN areas , *HABITATS - Abstract
In Pará, family agriculture brings jobs and income to the countryside, that's why there are several agrovillages in the state, such as Macapazinho located in the municipality of Castanhal, where the use of agricultural and water resources is routine for several families. The objective of this research was to evaluate results of fertility analysis in samples collected from agricultural areas of small farmers of the agrovillage and to verify anthropic changes in aquatic habitats on the banks of the Apeú river, a river that cuts through the agrovillage and serves as a resource for its inhabitants. The results showed low fertility indices in all analyzed areas and the inefficient use of cultivated areas. Alterations in the natural habitats were observed in all five secsions of the Apeú River analyzed, especially the secsion in the center of the agrovillage of Macapazinho, which proved to be the most affected by anthropic activities. SOIL biology , *OXISOLS , *HABITATS , *MILLIPEDES , *ANIMALS - Abstract
The community of soil organisms, including species visible to the naked eye (> 2.0 mm), is represented by more than 20 taxonomic groups. The soil is a heterogeneous and dynamic environment, in which there is a huge variety of organisms and high biodiversity and abundance of living beings. This work aims to analyze the diversity and characterize the soil of an area of Nim (Azadirachta indica), located Igarapé-açu, UFRA school farm, through diversity indices for the edaphic macrofauna and the Munsell letter for identification of the soil color. The work was conducted for 6 months from March to September 2018, containing 4 visits throughout the survey. With this, 3 collections were made for edaphic macrofauna and soil. The Shannon-Wiener, Simpson and Pielou indices were used to assess the diversity of the macrofauna, and collections were made in blocks in the soil, where each block was performed 4 repetitions with depths of 0 cm - 20 cm, 20 cm - 40 cm, 40 cm - 60 cm and 60 cm - 80 cm, for a total of 64 samples. Both the ephoric macrofauna and the soil, showed a fundamental association for the balance of a system where it houses a considerable variety of life. According to the diversity indexes, it can be seen that there are taxonomic groups that dominate a specific habitat in favor of the condition and the period they are in, indicating greater activity in collection 3, a fact linked to the beginning of the dry period, where the neem leaves begin falling. The region's soil was characterized as oxisols with sandy-clay characteristics. It was possible to verify that the edaphic macrofauna, associated with the soil environment as a whole, are fundamental for the balance of a system that inhabits an unimaginable variety of life. The representatives of Diplopodas are the most present species in the studied area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Anurans are represented by frogs, frogs and frogs. Due to their physiology, they are widely used to monitor the quality of the environment since their skin is sensitive to environmental changes in their habitats. The collections were carried out in an experimental area of The Guaraí College located in the municipality of Guaraí/TO during the dry and rainy season through the method of manual capture and observation, during the practical zoology classes between 2015 and 2019. Sixty-seven individuals with higher abundance were sampled for the families Bufonidae and Leptodactylidae. The species belonging to these families are the most abundant because they better resist the changes in ecological gradient and because they havegeneralist feeding. The diversity of anuranunus differed significantly in terms of microenvironments, prevailing in a greater number of species the natural areas and in smaller anthropized areas. Understanding the ecology and abundance of anuran species are important for local monitoring and health of populations residing in the most varied microhabitats. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MOOSE , *HABITATS , *PREDATION , *CILIATA , *ALIMENTARY canal , *RUMEN (Ruminants) - Abstract
Elk (Alces alces L.) are the largest animals in the deer family and an important commercial and hunting animal in Russia. Since ancient times, elk have offered nutritious meat and valuable hides. For this reason, there are repeated attempts to domesticate elk. However, the domestication of elk and their implementation on farms has not gone beyond experimental farms. This is mostly due to the elk’s digestion's unexplored physiology, including the role of endobiont ciliates. The elk’s diet is very diverse and includes shoots, leaves, the bark of various tree species and shrubs, multiple herbs, rhizomes and the leaves of aquatic plants, and mushrooms. This research aimed to perform a quantitative and specific study of the infusory composition of the digestive tract of European elk, which lives on the territory of the Omsk and Chelyabinsk regions of Russia in connection with habitat, nutrition, and climate. A comparative analysis of the species and numerical composition of symbiotic ciliated protozoa in the stomachs of European elk are presented. The average number of individual species of elk stomach cilia depending on the territory of the animal's habitat and the qualitative and quantitative composition of various parts of the stomach are presented. The dominant genus of cilia in elk is Entodinium, which includes ten species. Entodinium makes up 63% of all protozoa in the rumen of moose in the Chelyabinsk population and 73% in the Omsk population. The ophrioscolecidae family share accounts for 98% of the total composition of cilia in the moose rumen of the Chelyabinsk population and 96% of the Omsk population. No cilia were found in the rennet. The results allow us to assess the prospects for European elk domestication. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ARCHETYPES , *SELF , *HABITATS , *HEROES - Abstract
This article brings out a discussion regarding the essencial figure of the character Wolverine in his natural mediadic habitat, the comic books. Through a study based on the aspects that underlie the heroic archetype, this research will make a retrospect about the hero's role and they diverse manifestations, with the goal of desmystifying the essence of Wolverine and categorizing him inside a hero's segment. The study becomes necessary in the moment that a change in the character's behavior is observed, over his new evasive self. The unfolding of Wolverine in new medias, with intentionaly massive proprieties, led to his massification. Once the products that permeate Wolverine's mediatic ecology adopt him as a mass product, his suitability to the public becomes necessary. In the course of this research the reader will be formally presented to the character, as well as the ecology that composes the universe of graphic narratives. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We present an annotated checklist of the species of Bombycidae, Saturniidae and Sphingidae collected in the Utría National Natural Park, Chocó, Colombia. We used mercury light trap for 31 days in four different habitats. We found 35 species: 19 Saturniidae, 15 Sphingidae and 1 Bombycidae. Eighteen species are recorded for the first time in the department of Chocó. These include the Chocó endemic Syssphinx chocoensis, the first specimen of Manduca dalica dalica, in a Colombian collection, and the fifth instar of Isognathus scyron. Our results agree with the lunar phobia hypothesis. This work is the first approach to the diversity of these families in the Utría National Park.

The funerary issue concerning castrejo and celtiberos intertwines with the habitat in which they lived. In castrejo settlements, changes in the funerary pattern - from the urns inside the huts to a location near the family nucleus and later to the necropolis's differentiated space - are often credited exclusively to contact with the Romans, without further study of spatial distribution. In the case of the Celtiberian cemeteries, although there is a peculiar internal organization of the funerary space, variations occur that must be better examined. This is the case, for example, in the Numância necropolis, where the densification causes authors such as Lorrio to think of functional justifications for the damage of the weapons found in the cemetery: such an act would be due not only to the ritual of sacred destruction, but also the practical aspect of the burial space available. The search for the factors that generated the change in funerary patterns will thus be guided by both the cultural interrelationship between castrejo and Romans or Celtiberos and Romans (whose analysis will be centered on material documentation, seen as essential to detect the aspect memory) as well as the spatial organization of the burials of both peoples. - Abstract
Riverine systems are primary habitats for aquatic species. Great efforts have been made to understand interaction between aquatic organism and various environmental factors in specific reaches of a river, yet little was known about how to identify habitats in river networks. In this paper, a comprehensive approach was proposed for identification of aquatic habitats in hierarchical river systems in terms of integrated geocodes synthesized through over-layer of multiple factors such as geologic periods, climatic conditions, water sources, geomorphic characteristics and river patterns. Using this approach in the Yellow River Basin over an area of 758,600 km2, six groups of aquatic habitats were classified by clustering of 85 geocodes, and 313 sub-habitats were further identified by considering both surface composition (e.g., lithological features and soil texture) and topographic property (e.g., elevation and slope) in the loess geomorphic regions. Consequently, the contribution of the headwater streams to diversity of aquatic habitats among rivers and mid-sized rivers to the diversity within a river has been revealed by coupling of the geocode-based habitats and the river networks. The present study is of significance to efficient capture of habitat diversity and better understanding of biodiversity in rivers of different stream orders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to evaluate the edge effect based on the differences in tree functional traits (wood density, diameter, and height) on the edges of the Grumari restinga, Atlantic Forest, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. In the field, two edges were delimited: Banco Halles and Lagoa Feia. On each edge we selected trees with diameter ≥ 10 cm. Diameter and height were recorded for each tree and wood samples were collected. Wood density was obtained through the immersion method. To verify differences between edges through functional traits, t Student and Wilcoxon tests were applied. Pearson’s correlation was applied to verify relations between attributes. Additionally, tree aboveground biomass was estimated and the average between edges was compared. Only tree height showed local differences between edges (t 2.55; p 0.02). It was observed that the functional traits did not show a significant relation among each other. The Banco Halles presented bigger average stock of biomass (126.48 ± 71.14 kg) than Lagoa Feia (71.5 ± 40.67 kg). This study suggests that the variation of the functional traits can be affected by edge effects, even in edges of the same remnant with different disturbance and occupation histories.

The Araneidae is a speciose family including web-spinning spiders that are very abundant in various terrestrial ecosystems. Several studies demonstrate that changes in vegetation surrounding rivers, streams and brooks affect the associated araneofauna. The aim of this research was to compare differences found in diversity (abundance and richness), composition and phenology of Araneidae spiders sampled in different habitats in four riparian forest catchments in southern Brazil. Samples were taken from riparian forests in four rivers of Rio Grande do Sul State: Piratini, Camaquã, Sinos and Maquiné rivers, each in a different hydrographic basin. Samples were taken twice seasonally on each basin during two years, sampling the araneofauna of the tree-shrub strata with beating tray. Six transects were employed on each basin, two per habitat: edge with grassland, forest interior and river edge. Araneids totalled 20 genera and 65 species. Comparing riparian forests significant differences are found. Spider abundance differed among riparian forests as well as species richness. Overall, Piratini river riparian forest had the higher abundance and richness for Araneidae; the lower values were in Sinos river forest. The stronger degradation and fragmentation of the riparian forests of Sinos river probably influenced the results, with human disturbance gradients associated negatively to web building. We present data on the diversity of these spiders, which were very abundant in the riparian forest interior and very rich in species in the grassland/riparian forest edge. Species composition also differs among the studied habitats (the above plus river/riparian forest edge). For the most abundant species the phenological pattern across the seasons was also analysed.

The Brazilian biodiversity is recognized as one of the most expressive in the terrestrial biosphere and plays an important role to human well-being and health, providing basic products and ecosystem services. The products or goods from natural ecosystems include pharmaceutical material, food such as fishery, timber, and many others. Natural ecosystems also provide essential life-supporting services such as purification of air and water, climate regulation, reproductive and feeding habitats for extractivism, as well as maintenance of organisms responsible for cycling soil nutrients, making them available to plant absorption. Environmental disruption has impacted human well being and health, resulting in severe social poverty with spread of diseases. Increasing in vector-borne and diseases in humans and animals occur as a result of negative anthropogenic interventions in the natural ecosystems.

O capítulo I traz informações gerais sobre a subespécie. The pequi tree is a species of great environmental, social and economic relevance. The species Caryocar brasiliense Cambess is subdivided into two subspecies, one of arboreal size (C.brasiliense. subsp. brasiliense) and the other shrub (C. brasiliense subsp. intermedium), popularly known as dwarf pequi tree. The dwarf pequi tree has interesting characteristics for the genetic improvement of the common pequi tree, such as precocity, small size and fruiting period in a non-coinciding season. What is intriguing about the dwarf pequi tree is its extremely restricted spatial distribution, as it is isolated in some ecological niches. Therefore, understanding the factors intrinsic to its natural occurrence by contrasting the spatial distribution of pequi tree individuals in relation to the physical-chemical attributes of the soil was an objective of this thesis. Another objective was to subsidize future programs for the conservation of this subspecies and for the genetic improvement and management of the commercial C. brasiliense Cambess species. The research was carried out in a natural area of 25.2 ha, whose predominant soil is a dystrophic litholic Neosol with cover formed by a fragment of rocky field, located in the municipality of Ibiá-MG. Chapter I uses geostatistics (ordinary kriging) as a tool to study the distribution structure of the spatial dependence of the subspecies in relation to soil attributes (physicochemical attributes). In this chapter, it was found that the greater availability of bases (SB > 0.1 cmolc dm-3) and phosphorus (> 1.05 mg dm-3), reduced percentages of moisture (< 5%) and low potential acidity (< 4.0 cmolc dm-3) were the factors positively related to the establishment and development of dwarf pequi trees in the area. Among these, soil moisture is the factor in the highly conditioning area. In chapter II, geostatistics was integrated (ordinary kriging) with the multivariate technique of exploratory factor analysis, in order to know the correlations between the variables, map them and characterize the factors related to the occurrence of the dwarf pequi tree. Exploratory factor analysis allowed the reduction of the number of variables (19 variables for 5 factors) without loss of information quality, since the 5 factors cumulatively explained 83.9% of the variance of the variables. The spatial distribution of the factors allowed us to verify that even in the conditions of high acidity and high aluminum saturation characteristic of the study area, slightly lower levels of these ions allowed the formation of microhabitats favorable to the greater development of the dwarf pequi tree. (subtle changes in soil fertility). It was also clear the sensitivity of the dwarf pequi tree to soil moisture and its resistance to water stress, since it is on a shallow and sandy soil. The dwarf pequi tree is adapted to harmful environmental conditions to most cultivated crops and is sensitive to environmental changes. Thus, knowing the characteristics associated with its natural occurrence was important to support efforts for the preservation and conservation of the subspecies, preventing its extinction and helping programs for the improvement and management of the species C. brasiliense Cambess. The Cresmina-Guincho dune system is quite peculiar because it belongs to a transgressive system, wind corridor or headland bypass dunefield, called Guincho- Oitavos system, which is of remarkable importance for the natural heritage. With the increase of coastal activities and bath tourism, the anthropic impact on the system has been increasing considerably, creating adversities which severely damage the floral and faunal habitats and communities installed. An analysis was carried out in the area where dune plant associations and the corresponding habitats were identified, describing them in general terms how they would develop in a primordial state. A characterization of the conditions of the communities in the area of study was made, identifying the factors that prevent their natural progression and expansion. Several elements have been listed which critically disrupt the dune system, affecting habitats and plant species present on the site. In order to mitigate and/or resolve the existing impacts, measures are proposed to promote the conservation and preservation of the Cresmina-Guincho dune system, as well the dune and faunal vegetable communities that inhabit this area. All the elements presented in this research work aim to complement and add information to other works developed in this area.

In Portugal, 22% of the total species described for Europe are represented. Many of these species are endemic to Europe, some to the Iberian Peninsula and even to the national territory. The fragmentation, degradation and destruction of natural habitats are the main threats to species that occur in Portugal. Despite its undeniable value, the Natura 2000 Network, however, has some limitations for small-medium scale management, since this instrument is for the European Union and is focused on vast areas of high conservation value, making its impractical precepts for application in small patches of relic habitats. Some municipalities in Portugal are not covered by areas of environmental protection and conservation, despite the ecological and scenic importance of some of their habitats and landscapes, making it necessary to adopt measures to combat this gap in the conservation of the natural heritage. The municipality of Lousada belongs to the district of Porto and integrates the valley of the Sousa river. Characterized by a high population density and dominated by agricultural and forestry farms, its territory does not include any protected area of the National System of Classified Areas, the natural habitats being very fragmented. In this work I present the results of the first detailed study of the flora and habitats in the municipality of Lousada. Through the prospection of 20 sampling points dispersed in the municipality area and selected to cover the various plant communities identified in Lousada, it was possible to identify 408 species belonging to 95 botanical families, of which 24 are species with protection status. Five natural habitats and six subtypes (Appendix I of the Habitats Directive) were also registered, one of them for priority conservation. After assessing the natural values of the municipality of Lousada, an area for conservation was delimited, with the identification and detailed mapping of floristic species, landscape units and identified natural habitats. The area was classified as a Local Protected Landscape of the Sousa Superior River (PPLSS) on September 18, 2020 and its regulations approved on December 18 of the same year. The PPLSS corresponds to 16.8% of the municipal area and safeguards 84% of the floristic species, 20 protected species and four natural habitats. To complement the PPLSS, a project was implemented to implement a municipal micro-reserve network (classification of 22 micro reserves representing the safeguarding of 122.3 ha of the municipality's territory) to protect priority habitats or species that do not are covered by the PPLSS or require specific management. In view of the gap existing in the national legislation regarding micro-reserves as a protection instrument, the Municipality of Lousada, supported by the results of the work developed within the scope of the dissertation presented here, will advance in 2021 with municipal regulations for this purpose. This study is an important contribution to the definition of a municipal strategy for the safeguarding of the natural heritage, using the classification of areas at different scales, as a complement to the existing territorial management instruments. The strategy of the Municipality of Lousada shows some mechanisms that have been shown to be efficient in nature conservation, environmental awareness, and population involvement. The work developed within the scope of this master's thesis was crucial for the classification of the Local Protected Landscape of Sousa Superior, for the involvement of the population in the conservation of the county's natural values through the project of the municipal micro-reserve network and to equip the municipality and its various environmental projects of scientific knowledge about the natural heritage of this region. Beetles belonging to the superfamily Scarabaeoidea occupy different habitats, present feeding habits diversified, play an important ecological role and several species have agricultural importance. However, studies with this group in the Brazilian Cerrado are scarce. In this review we carried out a survey of scientific articles published in the past 30 years concerning Scarabaeoidea in the Cerrado. Were found 64 studies in nine Brazilian states. The studies focused on four main topics: pest species, bioecology, biodiversity and ecological importance, techniques and methodologies for collecting Scarabaeoidea. The results of this review indicate that few studies have been conducted with Scarabaeoidea in the Cerrado in recent decades compared to the importance and diversity of this group of insects. It was created aiming to protect and conserve water resources and remaining forests, guaranteeing the reasonable usage of its natural resources. The E.P.A.?s region of S?o Jo?o currently undergoes an intense process of its habitat fragmentation which is provoked by consecutive economic cycles and the exploitation of its resources. This phenomenon is linked to the past occupation of its territory, which follows the standards of the Mata Atl?ntica?s biome, where the conservation unit resides. In this context, the general aim of the research was to analyze the dynamics between the fragmentation of the forest and the landscape structure of the E.P.A. by using indexes related to the landscape?s ecology. The following indexes were analyzed: area, size and density, form and edge. They were investigated in two occasions: before and after the creation of the conservation unity. Two forest coverage maps were examined (2000 and 2011 respectively). The landscape?s measurements were calculated for all of the fragments and classified by size (small, medium, large and very large) using the plugin Patch Analyst available in the software ArcGis. The total forest coverage area increased during the examined period, which indicates the effectiveness of the conservation unit and in complying with its objectives. The major part of the identified fragments was small, following the biome?s standards. However, the number of total forest remnants, specially those of small fragments, decreased, which is a positive indication that the landscape?s structure improved. The results demonstrate that S?o Jo?o?s E.P.A. achieved important results for its natural conservation in the region, notably in the landscape?s dynamics, complying with the original aim. These results reinforce the relevance of territorial conservation units and the sustainable usage of resources, and consequently, of public policies associated with this issue, which are presently so questioned.

The Environmental Protection Area of Banhado Grande - APABG is a large area, which involves a diversity of habitats, fauna and flora, besides covering four municipalities Viamão, Gravataí, Glorinha and Santo Antônio da Patrulha. Being a APA, it is a type of protected area for sustainable use. With few years of existence is still little known and suffers from all kinds of degradation. This work intends to list theoretical and methodological assumptions that collaborate with the development of Environmental Education Plan for this unit. To this end, there was a literature review and two quantitative research where the first, aimed to diagnose the level of knowledge reagarding APABG and the "Refúgo da Vida Silvestre Banhado dos Pachecos", a conservation unit inserted into the APA. This survey was conducted in the region of Águas Claras / Viamão. The second survey was the mapping of actions in the environmental education in the constituent municipalities of the unit. This was intended to form a framework of knowledge associated with all their reality and complexity of environmental and social relations in the region serving thus, guidance and foundation for the preparation of the plan and the proposal for formation of environmental educators for the APA, aiming its sustainability. The theoretical assumptions are based on the formation of citizenship, environmental awareness and on the Critical Environmental Education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ENVIRONMENTAL education , *TOURISM , *ENVIRONMENTAL degradation , *ENVIRONMENTAL impact analysis , *CAPTIVE wild animals , *HABITATS - Abstract
The search for contact with nature is increasingly growing, mainly by those who live in large cities. Faced with serious environmental crisis that affects everyone, the relationship between Tourism and Environmental Education emerges as a possibility to change people's behavior and provide solutions to mitigate the damage caused by humans to the environment. The objective of this study was to analyze the potential of Parque Passeio Público, Curitiba, Paraná, as a site disseminating concepts related to Environmental Education. This space has in his breeding stock several captive animals and some wooded areas. This work was conducted through observations of the site and questionnaires to visitors. It was found that many visitors still have bad habits towards nature conservation, but have shown interest in and motivation to receive information that can change their attitudes and values pro-environment. Of the respondents, 96% believe they can improve their behavior towards the environment if they learn more about it. Curiosities about animal habits, recreation, medicinal herbs, garbage, scale models and exhibitions are some of the topics of most interest among visitors. On the other hand, the Passeio Público fails to provide visitors with information about its fauna. We can conclude from the results that the practice of Environmental Education at Passeio Público can cause change in environmental attitudes and motivation of its visitors; however, there must be more investment and research on the best methodology for implementation of Environmental Education in the environment. Remote sensing and geoprocessing techniques has been enlargement used for environmental studies, in the differents disciplines. The importance of interdisciplinary studies, creating a link with others disciplines, is important not only to environmental characterization, but for the knowing of your dynamics and yours interrelationships with your environment. In this context, here is presented three examples, which used remote sensing and geoprocessing techniques to describe the habitats. Was used digital elevation models of SRTM to extraction of topographic features, such as slope, hipsometry, plan curve, wetness index, potential hydraulic, and topographic profiles, important to ecological studies and others, with goal to describe the environment since biological and physical view point, through remote sensing and geoprocessing. PUMAS , *RADIO telemetry , *HABITATS , *WILDLIFE reintroduction - Abstract
One subadult male specimen of a reintroduced mountain lion was monitored using the radio telemetry technique. The monitoring lasted 110 days, being randomly distributed. Data of the monitoring through radiotelemetry suggested that the home range of this specimen was of approximately 26km2. This sets as the smallest home range described for this species. However, the importance of this basic monitoring should be emphasized, since information of the behavior of a large feline reintroduced in its natural habitat after a period in captivity is incipient.
