Abstract The scope of this study was to measure the prevalence of negative self-perceived health and depressive symptoms in elderly adults according to the presence of urinary incontinence, after a follow-up of nine years. This is a prospective population-based cohort study entitled Bagé Cohort Study of Aging, from Rio Grande do Sul. A total of 1,593 elderly adults were interviewed in the baseline study (2008) and 735 between September 2016 and August 2017. The “urinary incontinence (UI)” exposure was assessed in the baseline study and the outcomes “negative self-perceived health” and “depressive symptoms” in 2016/17. The odds ratio and 95% confidence interval were calculated by Logistic Regression and adjusted for demographic, social, behavioral and health conditions. The prevalence of UI was 20.7% in 2008 and 24.5% in 2016/17; the incidence was 19.8%, being 23.8% among women and 14.6% among men (p = 0.009). Elderly adults with UI at the baseline study had a 4.0 (CI95%: 1.8-8.8) and a 3.4 (CI95%: 1.8-6.2) greater chance to develop negative self-perception of health and depressive symptoms, respectively, after nine years of follow-up, compared to those without UI. The results show a greater probability of mental problems among elderly adults with UI.

During aging, living with pets can help the elderly to go through difficult situations, making pets a social support. The objective of this study was to know the prevalence of elderly people living with pets and its association with sociodemographic and health characteristics. Methods: Cross-sectional population-based study. Data collection took place through a household survey with elderly people aged 60 or over, living in the urban area of the municipality of Bagé, RS, in 2008. The dependent variable was living with pets and the independent ones included sociodemographic and health characteristics. Descriptive and bivariate analyzes were performed and, to verify associations, Fisher's exact test for heterogeneity was used. The level of statistical significance used was 5% for two-tailed tests. All analyzes were performed using the Stata version 14.0 program. The sample consisted of 1,593 elderly people. The general prevalence of living with pets was (69.0%; 95% CI: 66.6; 71.2). The variables associated with the outcome were: male gender (72.0%), younger age group (60 to 74 years - 72.9%), living with a partner (72.9%), not living alone, not receiving retirement (72.9%) and not having reported a drop in the last year (70.7%). There was a high prevalence of elderly people living with pets, however more studies are needed to better understand how living with animals is reflected in health improvements for the elderly population.

Abstract Objective: research aims to evaluate the longitudinality of Primary Health Care (PHC) from the perspective of its users, verifying the association between the population size, Human Development Index (HDI) and Family Health Strategy (FHS) coverage among the municipalities of a Regional Health Coordination in the Southern region of Brazil. Method: cross-sectional study, conducted with 1,076 PHC adult users from 32 municipalities of the 4 Regional Health Coordination of Rio Grande do Sul, from February to June 2015. Data were collected with the Adult Primary Care Assessment Tool and analyzed with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software. The Mann-Whitney and Kruskal Wallis tests were used to compare the means. Results: the level of affiliation had a high score (8.6; CI95%: 8.5-8.8) and the longitudinality obtained an unsatisfactory score (6.4; CI95%: 6.3-6.5). The fragilities related to the attribute were the interpersonal relationship between users and professionals; the recognition of users in their comprehensiveness, and the preparation of professionals to assist users. Longitudinality was better evaluated in municipalities with lower population size, lower HDI and higher FHS coverage. Conclusion: longitudinality is unsatisfactory and reveals the need for reorienting PHC and conducting vocational training. However, the greater coverage of FHS suggests that this care model contributes to qualify this attribute.

Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul Masters dissertation member of the matrix project "PCATool: evaluation of primary care in the 4th Regional Coordination of Health/Rio Grande do Sul". Over the years important advances in the process of reorganization in primary health care have occurred, however, improvement in work quality is still a major challenge. Amongst the essential attributes that drive and qualify the primary care services, the attribute that stands out is longitudinality. Longitudinality is a regular source of care, the establishment of a bond and informational continuity. In this context, as the subject of study is the longitudinality in Primary Health Care and as research question: What is the quality of Primary Health Care in the aspect of longitudinality, in the municipalities that make up the 4th Regional Coordination of Health in the State of Rio Grande do Sul?. The aim is to evaluate the longitudinality in Primary Health Care, under the adult user's perspective, in municipalities of the 4th Regional Coordination of Health in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. It is about a cross-sectional research developed in the Primary Health Care services of 4th Regional Coordination of Health in Rio Grande do Sul, composed by Health Region Verdes Campos e Entre Rios, with 1076 adult users, in the period from February to June, 2015. The instrument used for the collection was the Primary Care Assessment Tool, the adult version, with answers on Likert Scale. The data was analyzed with the help Statistical Package for the Social Sciences program. To compare the proportions we used the Chi-square test and for average comparisons we used the Kruskal Wallis test and Post Hoc Dunn test. We used Pearson correlation to check the dependence degree between longitudinality items and the score. We used Poisson regression to check the association between independent variables and the score. The ethical guidelines are based on 466/2013 resolution. In the first article, Benefits of longitudinality as attribute of Primary Health Care , an integrative review revealed the benefits of longitudinality in Primary Health Care: it allows to know the user and their health problems, plans care, establishes bond, interpersonal relationship, trust and user satisfaction. It provides orientation to the user, prevents disease and pomotes health, resoluteness, and quality of life. It reduces the use of highly complex services and health costs. The second article, "The presence and extent of longitudinality in Primary Health Care: assessment to the user s perspective refers to the general evaluation. The affiliation degree with the Primary Health Care services was evaluated with a high score (8.62). The results indicate a low score for longitudinality (6.38) and those items with a negative result are related to the family and social context and their history of health and disease. In the third article, "Longitudinality assessment in Primary Health Care: comparison between types of services", the affiliation grade with the Primary Health Care services obtained high scores in all types of services. The longitudinality was better evaluated in the Family Health Strategy and had a significant difference. The high score of longitudinality was associated to: 60 years age or over, health region Entre Rios and the type of service of family health. The study revealed a low score (

Introduction: Knowing the mortality indicators allows managers and health professionals to understand the situational diagnosis of the health process and disease of a population. Objective: To present the main cause of mortality in adult population in municipalities with higher production of tobacco and with the highest proportion of urban population in Western region of the state of Santa Catarina. Method: Transversal descriptive study with a quantitative approach through the search of data in the Mortality Information System of the State Department of Health of Santa Catarina (Sistema de Informacao de Mortalidade da Secretaria de Estado da Saude de Santa Catarina) during the period of January 2011 to December 2012. The mortality data was compared among individuals from both genders, aged between 20 and 59 years old from three counties with the highest production of tobacco and three more urban municipalities of the Western Region. The variables selected were Main Cause, Gender and Percent of Deaths per Cause. Results: It was verified a greater proportion of mortality from external causes in more urban municipalities, which was related to traffic accidents, assaults and suicides. In municipalities characterized by higher production of tobacco, cancer represents the leading cause of mortality (36.9% of deaths), mainly related to the digestive, respiratory, cutaneous and central nervous system. Conclusion: The leading cause of death in the adult population in most urban municipalities is external and in municipalities with a greater production of tobacco is neoplasia. This indicates that there may be an association between occupational exposure to the cultivation to tobacco and premature death from cancer.

Objective: To identify the scientific production regarding wound measurements. Materials and Methods: Narrative review of the literature. The search was conducted in the databases Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences and the Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature, in June 2014. Data analysis was performed based on the Minayo's operative proposal. Results: Nine studies were included in this review, enabling to identify that the wound measurement can be developed through invasive or non-invasive methods. Among the selected studies, five reported non-invasive techniques, two studies addressed invasive techniques and two reported studies on invasive versus non-invasive wound measurement techniques. The non-invasive techniques have been developed and improved in order to minimize the limitations of invasive measurement techniques. Conclusion: The studies identified that the wound measurement can be performed through invasive methods such as decal or acetate tracing and also through disposable paper strip; or non-invasive methods such as digital photographs. It is noteworthy that both invasive and non-invasive techniques can use manual or computer measurements, although most research of this review presented non-invasive methods of measurement. - Abstract
to evaluate community health workers' and quality of home visits associated factors., a cross-sectional study of 38,865 teams and 140,444 Primary Care Access and Quality Improvement Program users. We established the "quality of home visits" and its association with the characteristics of the municipalities, teams and individuals, estimated by the prevalence ratio and 95% confidence intervals., 139,362 (99.2%) users said the health team had community workers. The prevalence of quality was 51.9%. After adjustments, the prevalence was higher in the Northeast (Prevalence Ratio: 1.19 [1.18-1.21]), smaller municipalities (PR: 1.06 [1.03-1.09]), among teams with area definition (PR: 1.15 [1.06-1.25]), evaluation of indicators (PR: 1.14 [1.12-1.17]) and user satisfaction (PR: 1.11 [1.08-1.13]), that considered risk and vulnerability criteria for defining the number of people under responsibility (PR: 1.05 [1.04-1.07]) and without an uncovered population of workers (PR: 1.03 [1.01-1.04]); among users with chronic diseases (PR: 1.02 [1.01-1.05]) and with someone at home with walking difficulties (PR: 1.05 [1.02-1.07])., the importance of organizing the teams' work process for the quality of the worker's home visits and their role in health equity is highlighted.

- Abstract
To evaluate the cumulative incidence of depression and its associated factors in the older population living in the urban area of the municipality of Bagé, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, a prospective cohort study was conducted from 2008 to 2016/2017. The analysis was restricted to 615 older adults with complete information on the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15), both at baseline and at follow-up, and who did not present depression in 2008. To calculate crude and adjusted incidence ratios and 95% confidence interval, Poisson regression with robust variance adjustment was used, including the baseline variables. A hierarchical model of four levels of determination was used. The variables were controlled for those of the same or of higher levels, and the p-value ≤ 0.20 was established to remain in the analysis model. In 2008, 523 older people did not have depression and 92 had been screened with the disease. In 2016/2017, of the 523 individuals without depression in the baseline measure, 10.3% tested positive at screening (incident cases), whereas 89.7% of the older adults remained free of the condition. Of the 92 older adults with depression in 2008, 32.6% continued to present depressive symptoms at follow-up and 67.3% had remission of symptoms. Leaving home once or never and being incapable of doing functional and instrumental activities of daily living were associated with a higher risk of positive screening for depression. The results reinforce the multidimensional and dynamic character of depression, which alternates short and long episodes, and may become recurrent and chronic.

- Abstract
This article aimed to identify the prevalence of not receiving a home visit by a community health agent (CHA) and the factors associated with it. This was a cross-sectional study, conducted with 38,865 health teams and 140,444 users in the entire country, who participated in the external evaluation of the Program of Access and Quality Improvement in Primary Health (PMAQ-AB, in Portuguese) in 2017/2018. The association between not receiving a home visit by a CHA and the characteristics of the towns, teams, and individuals were estimated by the prevalence ratio (PR) with 95% confidence intervals. The prevalence of not receiving a home visit by a CHA was 18.6% and the main causes were: CHA did not visit the home, lack of knowledge of the existence of CHAs in the neighborhood or unit, and no one present at the home when the CHA visited. The probability of receiving a home visit was higher in poorer regions like the Northeast Region of the country; in towns with a smaller population; among older age users with a lower income, users with chronic health conditions, or users who have someone with a physical disability at home. The results showed that there is a need to increase the coverage of CHA visits in the country, considering that their home visits improve equity in health care.

- Abstract
Objective: to verify the influence of social relations on the survival of older adults living in southern Brazil., Method: a cohort study (2008 and 2016/17), conducted with 1,593 individuals aged 60 years old or over, in individual interviews. The outcomes of social relations and survival were verified by Multiple Correspondence Analysis, which guided the proposal of an explanatory matrix for social relations, the analysis of survival by Kaplan-Meier, and the multivariate analysis by Cox regression to verify the association between the independent variables., Results: follow-up was carried out with 82.5% (n=1,314), with 46.1% being followed up in 2016/17 (n=735) and 579 deaths (36.4%). The older adults who went out of their homes daily had a 39% reduction in mortality, and going to parties kept the protective effect of 17% for survival. The lower risk of death for women is modified when the older adults live in households with two or more people, in this case women have an 89% higher risk of death than men., Conclusion: strengthened social relationships play a mediating role in survival. The findings made it possible to verify the importance of going out of the house as a marker of protection for survival.
