This study aims to evaluate the influence of peripheral muscule strength on extubation failure in critical ill patients. This is a pilot, longitudinal, quantitative and prospective study with 100 adult patients admitted to intensive care unit with more than 48 hours of mechanical ventilation. Muscle strength was evaluate using the Medical Research Council scale and dynamometry. Data distribution was evaluated using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Continuous variables with asymmetrical distribution were expressed as medians and interquartile ranges and compared using the Mann-Whitney test. Categorical variables were expressed in absolute and relative frequencies and compared using the chi-square test. P values <0.05 were considered significant. The median of Medical Research Council score in patients with extubation failure was 38 days, with an interquartile range (IQR) of 37- 42, and 52,5 days (IQR 40,5-58) in patients with extubation success (p=0,001). Dynamometry evaluation showed a median of 6,6 points (IQR 3,8-9,3) in patients with extubation failure and 12,6 (IQR 7,8-19,7) in patients who evolved successfully (p= 0,001). Of the patients who failed extubation, 78,0% had an MRC below 48 (p=0,007). The median length of stay in the ICU was 26 days (IQR 21-34,5) in patients with extubation failure and 9 days (IQR 6-14) in patients with extubation success (p=0,009), 44,4% of patients who failed extubation evolved to tracheostomy, against only 2,1% of those who evolved successfully (p=<0,001). About the mortality, 55,0% of the patients who required reintubation died, against 9,8% of the patients with success (p=<0,001). It was concluded that the presence of peripheral muscle weakness was not associated with the risk of reintubation, but a greater number of patients with MRC <48 and higher mortality rates were identified in the extubation failure subgroup. - Abstract
Background: The reduction of pulmonary congestion is an essential clinical target in the management of chronic heart failure. The remote dielectric sensing (ReDS) system is a recently introduced non-invasive technology used to easily estimate the degree of lung fluid volume without any expert techniques., Objective: To conduct a comparative assessment of pulmonary congestion according to ultrasound and ReDS technology in patients hospitalized with decompensation of chronic heart failure (CHF)., Methods: The pilot single-center study included patients hospitalized with CHF decompensation. On admission and upon discharge, lung ultrasound and ReDS technology were simultaneously performed. Ultrasound of the lungs was performed according to the protocol with an assessment of 8 zones and calculation of the sum of B-lines. Pulmonary congestion was confirmed with a sum of B-lines ≥5, ReDS congestion if >35%. A p<0.05 was considered statistically significant., Results: 35 patients were included in the study; 40% (n=14) were men, the average age was 71 (65.5; 78.5) years. Pulmonary congestion, according to ultrasound, was 57.1% (n=20), and according to ReDS, 62,9% (n=22). A moderate correlation was found between ReDS (%) and lung ultrasound (sum of B-lines) upon admission (Spearman correlation coefficient = 0.402; p=0.017). There was no correlation between the two methods at discharge (p=0.613)., Conclusion: There was a moderate correlation between ReDS and lung ultrasound in relation to the detection of pulmonary congestion at admission.

- Abstract
The aim was to analyse and improve the Primary Health Care (PHC) response to domestic violence against women (DVAW) by developing, implementing and evaluating an intervention. A pilot study evaluating the before and after of intervention implementation, using mixed methods and carried out in three phases - formative, intervention and evaluation - between August 2017 and March 2019 in two Basic Health Units (UBS) in the city of São Paulo. In this paper, we present the details and evaluation of the intervention, carried out six to twelve months after its implementation. The intervention was developed based on the findings of the formative phase and in line with the health policy that establishes the Violence Prevention Nucleus (NPV) and consisted of stablishing a care pathway; general training for all workers and specific training for the NPV; drawing up educational material and monthly case discussions over 6 months. The evaluation showed acceptability among the workers, increased identification and repertoire for caring for cases of DVAW, strengthening internal referral and the intersectoral network. We identified obstacles to the full implementation and sustainability of the intervention.

The present pilot project aims to analyse the effect of an intervention program based on ludic-motor games adapted for children with sensory and physical disabilities, lasting 5 weeks. The project is for students of the 1st and 4th grades of the 1st cycle of Basic Education and regards attitudes of inclusion and the perception of competencies. Thirty-two students, 15 male and 17 female, aged between 6 and 10 years old, participated in the present research. For the assessment of the implementation of this program of inverse inclusion, we used a mixed methodology with the quantitative assessment carried through a questionnaire (in the validation process) and the qualitative assessment with focus groups. The main results reveal significant differences in the perception of competence dimension between the two evaluation moments (pre and post). The analysis of the focus groups highlighted the satisfaction with the activities developed in the program as well as the perception of its relevance. In general, we concluded that the project allowed participants to be more aware of the skills and difficulties of a child with disabilities and more knowledgeable of strategies (for example, games and play) to include peers with disabilities. SOCIAL media , *HEALTH education , *INTERNET , *PILOT projects , *ORAL health - Abstract
The use of digital resources on the internet allows the knowledge complementation and deepening, working as an extension of the academic environment. This experience report intends to present the use of digital didactic-pedagogical resources to disseminate knowledge about oral health. Such activities were developed in the extension project "Sorriso - Canal Digital" of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (Minas Gerais state, Brazil), campus Governador Valadares - UFJF/GV. The main activity of the project consisted of making and posting videos in the format of interviews with reference professionals from different areas of dentistry. Content posts are made on a channel on the Youtube video platform and Instagram monthly. The didactic-pedagogical resources consisted of facilitating instruments that enriched the knowledge of everyone involved in the project. The main points developed were the demand for the search for previous studies on the covered topics to prepare the questions for the interviews and the encouragement of interaction, organization, and teamwork. Learning through social media facilitates and helps the search for content of professional interest. Advantages like speed control, pause, and back to content make learning even more effective. However, difficulties in reaching the target population are still a problem since it was necessary to cover other platforms that were not foreseen in the pilot project. It is also necessary to structure and solidify dissemination strategies so that the content reaches more people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this research was to identify whether the use of exergames can help improve physical fitness through Burpee and analyse whether exergames can improve agility and spatial-temporal perception in young soccer players and non-players. This is a descriptive exploratory research with qualitative-quantitative data analysis. Participants were children (10.8 ± 1.8 years). For this sample, it was observed that exergames did not promote a significant increase in physical fitness (Group 1 x Group 2= 95%CI (-6.39--6.59), p> 1.00; Group 3 x Group 4= 95%CI (-1.27--3.47), p> 1.00). In contrast, exergames promoted a significant improvement in agility and spatiotemporal perception for group 2 (Agility Pre x Post: Z= -2.828; p= 0.05; Spatiotemporal perception Pre x Post: Z= -2.828; p= 0.05). We understand that exergames did not improve physical fitness in young soccer players and that they also did not provide improvements in agility or spatiotemporal perception. However, for the non-athlete public, there was a significant improvement in agility and spatial-temporal perception. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Introduction Interpersonal negotiation skills (INS) comprise actions used to solve social situations between interacting individuals involving different needs or desires. These abilities are part of one’s social competence and may be impaired in some psychiatric conditions. There are few validated psychometric tools for measuring INS in the literature. This pilot study aimed to investigate some basic psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the Interpersonal Negotiation Strategies Interview (INSI) in children and adolescents. Methods We developed a new version of the INSI adapted to the Brazilian culture using eight different dilemmas in dyadic situations (with peers and adults), presented visually as drawings on cards. A group of psychologists and psychiatrists chose and adapted the dilemmas formerly proposed by the original version. The same scoring criteria as for the original instrument were used. A total of 20 children and adolescents were included in this pilot study. We investigated test reliability using measures of interrater reliability, test-retest, and internal consistency. The content validity of the INSI was also evaluated by comparison with scores from the Child Behavior Checklist-Revised (CBCL). Results Internal consistency and test-retest evaluations were acceptable (rater 1: α = 0.77; rater 2: α = 0.72); the reliability of the instrument was excellent (K = 0.078; intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.98; 95% confidence interval 0.97-0.99); and content validity was strongly significant (p < 0.001). Conclusions Preliminary results suggest that this version of the INSI has good interrater reliability and internal consistency and constitutes a promising tool to assess social competence.

Objective: to verify the effect of aromatherapy on emotional symptoms and fatigue in nursing residents working in hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: pre- and post-intervention pilot study with quantitative approach. The residents used a combination of essential oils (Sicilian lemon, lavender, bergamot and tea tree) at 2%, via the skin, for three weeks. The Self-Report Questionnaire-20 (SRQ-20) and the Fatigue Pictogram were applied before and after the intervention and three weeks after its completion (follow up). Results: 15 residents participated. The averages of the three moments of the SRQ-20 were 9.73, 7.00 and 8.13, respectively. There was a reduction in emotional symptoms post-intervention (p=0.026) and in the follow up there was no significant increase in the SRQ-20 score (p=0.666). There was no significant evidence of change in fatigue level status for the three study phases. Conclusions: the use of aromatherapy had an impact on the improvement of emotional symptoms of nursing residents working in hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This study aimed to know the opinion of professionals participating in an experiment to implement a pilot for molecular tests to detect Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae at the Brazilian Unified National Health System (SUS). The detection rate of C. trachomatis and/or N. gonorrhoeae and the factors associated with infection were determined. The strategy included laboratories belonging to the HIV and viral hepatitis viral load network. Testing targeted people who are more vulnerable to sexually transmitted infections and collected urine samples and/or vaginal, endocervical, and/or male urethral swabs. Questionnaires were sent to state managers and laboratory professionals about the implementation of the pilot. Reviews were overall positive. Weaknesses included difficulties changing work processes, lack of human resources, poorly sensitized care professionals, and absence of primary urine tubes, the only input not provided. Strengths included the centralized acquisition of tests, sharing of equipment, and storage of samples at room temperature. Of the 16,177 people who were tested, 1,004 (6.21%) were positive for C. trachomatis; 1,036 (6.4%), for N. gonorrhoeae; and 239 (1.48%), for C. trachomatis/N. gonorrhoeae . Detection of any infection occurred more frequently in young people (≤ 24 vs. > 24 years) (adjOR = 2.65; 95%CI: 2.38-2.96), men (adjOR = 1.95; 95%CI: 1.72-2.21), brown/black individuals (adjOR = 1.06; 95%CI: 1.05-1.11), those in Southeastern Brazil (adjOR = 1.08; 95%CI: 1.02-1.13), and in urethral secretion samples (adjOR = 1.46; 95%CI: 1.41-1.52). Results show the importance of making testing available nationwide, which supported the implementation of a definitive network to detection C. trachomatis/N. gonorrhoeae in SUS.

- Abstract
Introduction: Vitamin D plays a crucial role in various biological processes, including the well-known regulation of the immune system and calcium metabolism. While its involvement in the surgical outcomes of various medical specialties is recognized, there is a lack of consistent data regarding plastic surgery. This study aimed to assess preoperative serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D and its relationship with complications in patients undergoing reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgeries., Methods: prospective and observational cohort study, conducted from October 2021 to August 2023 at the Hospital das Clínicas, Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, involving 83 patients., Results: vitamin D levels were deemed deficient in 7 (8,4%) patients, insufficient in 36 (43,4%), and sufficient in 40 (48,2%). No direct association was demonstrated between deficient or insufficient serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D and the incidence of complications in plastic surgery, even when considering comorbidities., Conclusion: preoperative hypovitaminosis D was not associated with complications in plastic surgery.

- Abstract
Introduction and Objectives: Childhood offers an excellent window of opportunity to start interventions to promote behavioral changes before unhealthy lifestyles become established, leading to cardiovascular diseases. The goal of this pilot educational project for children is the promotion of healthy lifestyles and cardiovascular health., Methods: This project was implemented in 4th grade children and included teacher-led classroom activities, a lesson given by a cardiologist and a practical lesson with dietitians. The teacher received a manual containing information on the topics to be discussed in class with the pupils and the children received a book that addresses cardiovascular risk factors and prevention. The components included were diet (D), physical activity (PA) and human body and heart awareness (BH). At the beginning and at the end of the schoolyear, a questionnaire was applied to the children to assess knowledge (K), attitudes (A) and habits (H) on these topics., Results: A total of 73 children from two schools from an urban district public school in Lisbon, in a low to medium income area, participated in the project. Following the intervention, there was a 9.5% increase in the overall KAH score, mainly driven by the PA component (14.5%) followed by the BH component (12.3%). No improvement was observed for component D. The benefits were also more significant in children from a lower income area, suggesting that socioeconomic status is a determinant in the response obtained., Conclusions: An educational project for cardiovascular health can be implemented successfully in children aged 9 years, but longer and larger studies are necessary., (Copyright © 2023 Sociedade Portuguesa de Cardiologia. - Abstract
Purpose: To present a method for analyzing breathing modes with infrared thermography., Methods: This exploratory cross-sectional study used 38 thermal images of inspiration and expiration with nasal breathing and simulated mouth breathing in four nasal breathers without respiratory complaints. Three different data selection forms (line, rectangle, and ellipse) were used to extract the minimum, mean, and maximum temperatures of the regions of interest (nose and mouth) using the FLIR Tools® software., Results: Among the three selection forms, there was greater temperature variability obtained with the line, revealing limitations in this measurement. There were no differences between the rectangle and ellipse values, showing that both selection forms present similar temperature extraction results. The comparison results between nose and mouth temperatures during inspiration and expiration indicated a statistically significant difference between all measurements, except for mean inspiration temperatures with the rectangle and ellipse. The breathing mode can be distinguished in both inspiration and expiration when using mean mouth temperatures with the rectangle and ellipse., Conclusion: Breathing modes should be assessed based on mean mouth temperatures during inspiration, using the ellipse.

This study aimed to analyze the Average Propulsive Speed (APS), Average Speed (AS), and Power (N) in two test conditions, tied or not tied versus beginner and trained. Sixteen male Paralympic powerlifting athletes participated in the research, with 28.60±7.60 years, 71.80±17.90 kg. Participants performed a 1 RM test to determine the maximum load. To collect the APS, AS, and N, the Speed 4Lift encoder was attached to the bar, and the percentages of loads of 40, 45, and 50% of 1RM were collected. The statistical analysis between the groups was made using a Two Way ANOVA, (condition-tied and not tied X training level - beginner and trained) with Post Hoc by Bonferroni. In the variables APS and AS, there was no difference between the groups, as well as between the conditions tied or not tied. The variable N had a difference between the athletes, in both conditions for 40% of 1 RM (p=0.024) in athletes trained in untied condition and athletes trained in tied condition (p=0.033). From the collected data, it is observed that athletes with 12 or more months of training have better performance on muscle power in both conditions than the untrained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HIDRADENITIS suppurativa , *GENERAL practitioners , *QUESTIONNAIRES , *TOBACCO use , *PILOT projects - Abstract
Introduction: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic dermatosis with a large impact in patients' quality of life and an estimated 7-year delay in diagnosis. The General Practitioner (GP) is usually the first doctor to assist the HS patient. The primary objective of this study is to describe the knowledge and clinical approach of HS by GPs. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted, based on the GPs answers to a questionnaire designed to evaluate their knowledge on HS. Results: One hundred eighty seven questionnaires were considered valid for inclusion in the study. The majority (97.3%) of GPs correctly identified HS as the most likely diagnosis when confronted with a typical clinical history of the disease, and 84.5% associated HS with chronicity. The majority (84.0%) of GPs refers these patients, mostly to Dermatology (89.3%). The majority of GPs also considered that a surgical approach may not be curative (94.1%) and 15.0% considered that biological agents might be indicated. We compared the answers of 2 groups: group A, n=100, with <5 years of clinical practice and group B, n=84, with =5 years. Group A associated more HS with tobacco use and obesity than group B (p=0.013 and p=0.006, respectively). A multidisciplinary approach was also more frequently selected by group A (p=0.004). Conclusion: This pilot study shows that the view of Portuguese GPs about HS can be improved. There are significant differences concerning knowledge on HS between GPs with less than 5 years of clinical practice and the more experienced ones. This study can help to direct differential future educational actions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PRODUCT image , *PROCESSED foods , *FOOD consumption , *INFORMATION design , *FOOD packaging , *PILOT projects - Abstract
The consumption of ultra-processed foods is a problem for promoting the health of Brazilians, especially for children. To understand this theme, research has dealt with visual appeals on packaging. However, its graphic characterization is little explored. In view of this, this article presents the trends of appeals on the front face of cereals for children from the perspective of information design with the analysis of 60 samples. Of 346 appeals found, the majority (n=138) is used in pictorial mode, especially product image (in all packaging) and character (n=38). With these results, a pilot study was also carried out with five children and their perceptions about a fictitious cereal frontal face. It was concluded, with the two surveys, that the product image, in addition to being the most recurrent appeal, is also a factor that influences the thinking of children about a particular food. - Abstract
Purpose: To carry out the cross-cultural adaptation of the Instrument Profiles of Early Expressive Phonological Skills- Brazilian Portuguese (PEEPS-BP) - Expanded list, performing content validation., Methods: Cross-cultural, quantitative and cross- sectional adaptation study, considering psychometric criteria. A study was carried out on the list of 423 words from the Communicative Development Inventory - MacArthur - Words and Sentences, adapted to Brazilian Portuguese. The method was divided into four steps. The list was judged by expert judges (JE) and non-specialist judges (JNE), considering as a criterion the familiarity of the word for a child aged between 24 and 36 months, and the representativeness of the word with toy/object, contemplating Steps 1 and 2. The child judges analyzed, in a data collection situation, the familiarity and representativeness of the stimulus-words, presented in Step 3. Afterwards, the pilot study - Step 4, was carried out with the selected stimulus-words. In the statistical analysis by expert and non-specialist judges, the Fleiss' Kappa and Gwet Concordance index was used. In the analysis of the responses of the child judges and in the Pilot Study, the analysis was made in relation to the type of response of the child, specifically scoring the spontaneous naming of the toy/object, scoring qualitatively., Results: The result of Steps 1 and 2, and the agreement of the statistical tests for the Familiarity and Representativeness criteria was 45.7% for JE and 76.4% for JNE, and a result of 100% for the agreement of Representativeness. A total of 122 words were analyzed, resulting from previously established criteria, totaling 34 words (exclusion of one word by the researchers), totaling 33 stimulus-words. In Stage 3, of the 33 stimulus-words applied, nine presented spontaneous naming scores below expectations, being retested for Step 4, the Pilot Study. The result of the Pilot Study showed that of the nine retested stimulus-words, four of them still had a score below, being excluded from the study. Therefore, with the application of the Pilot Study, the expanded list of PEEPS-BP resulted in 29 words., Conclusion: The PEEPS-BP - Expanded List showed satisfactory evidence of content validity for the cross-cultural adaptation of the test.

The study had two phases: construction of NPET'pilot version by theoretical nursing references, the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®) and the Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC®) with focus group of expert nurses; a pilot study on the implementation of the program. Results: six focuses of nursing practice and interventions for preoperative, postoperative and follow-up to patients with elimination ostomy (EO), constituted the NPET consensus version. Conclusions: the NPET'construction contributed to define nursing interventions in stoma care, constituting a systematized and individualized proposal of caring in human dimensions vulnerable to the presence of EO, making possible the evaluation of its effect in ostomy adaptation and quality of life. The practice of telemedicine in general and teledermatology in particular has been gaining renewed interest given the technologically improved equipment, the potential benefits in terms of costs and waiting times and the ability to deliver specialised healthcare to more patients. The main aim of the study was to assess the diagnostic reliability and accuracy of a face-to-face consultation compared with store-and-forward teleconsultation in clinically suspicious solitary lesions. Material This is a retrospective study of all the patients included in a pilot project between Dermatology Department at Hospital Garcia de Orta and 5 regionally-dependent health centres from June to December 2016. It consisted in the referral of a clinically suspicious solitary lesion photograph by the general practitioner with a short clinical information. All the lesions were assigned a telediagnosis, followed by a face-to-face consultation performed by the same dermatologist. The gold-standard for measuring diagnostic accuracy was the histopathological diagnosis and, in some cases of benign straightforward lesions, the clinical and dermoscopic diagnosis performed by the dermatologist. A total of 68 patients, corresponding to a total of 68 lesions, were included in the study, 31(46%) female and 37 (54%) male patients. The mean age was 67 years, with a lower mean age in the male group (52 versus 88 years). 53% of cases corresponded to malignant and pre-malignant lesions. The diagnostic concordance was 84%. Face-to-face consultation showed a better diagnostic accuracy than teleconsultation (85% vs 77%). This study illustrates the potential of teledermatology to diagnose clinically suspicious solitary lesions referred from primary care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Contextualization: Virtual reality therapy consists of the use of games as a tool in the rehabilitation of patients with sensorimotor sequelae. This study aimed to verify the effects of a rehabilitation protocol containing virtual reality therapy associated with kinesitherapy on functionality of upper limbs, manual dexterity, and quality of life in chronic hemiparetic patients. Eight individuals of both sexes were included in the chronic phase post-stroke, allocated in the experimental groups (3 men and 1 woman) and control (2 men and 2 women). The subjects were assessed by Specific Scale for Quality of Life for Stroke, Function Independence Measure and Box and Block Test. The experimental group underwent 10 sessions of kinesitherapy associated with Nintendo ® Wii games, the control group was submitted through sessions containing only kinesiotherapy in the same period. The Fugl-Meyer scale was reapplied at the post-intervention. The test of Anova for repeated measurements indicated difference for Fugl- Meyer for motor function of upper limbs (F =9,11; p=0,023) and for total score of Fugl-Meyer (F=7,12; p= 0,037). The paired t-test confirmed the difference only for motor function for the experimental group (average difference-8.5 points, p = 0.05). The proposed intervention was able to improve the motor function of the upper limb paretic patients, however, has not been verified difference in manual dexterity and overall functionality between the study groups. Education is a universal right and plays a crucial role in human development, helping the individual to build his personality and character. Even when in prison, citizens have the same rights in access to education, which should be appropriate to the demands of the new configurations of contemporary networked society and in this context digital education can enable these goals to be achieved. In Portugal, and as part of a protocol signed between the Open University (UAb) and the Directorate General for Reinsertion and Prison Services (DGRSP), an innovative pilot project, the educonline@ pris Virtual Campus, is being developed, to promote education and training for inmates. It is precisely the functioning of this Virtual Campus, potentialities and limitations that we intend to evaluate, based on the qualitative analysis of the perceptions and narratives of ten inmates, studying in UAb. The results show, on the one hand, that the implementation of the Campus had a very positive impact on the pedagogical processes developed in the eLearning platform, both in online access to digital resources and e-learning activities, as well as in the possibility of accessing the different evaluation modalities. On the other hand, we highlight the constraints associated with the poor coverage of the internet network and the limitations related to the impossibility of communicating in the virtual classrooms with the teachers and students of the class, as well as the impossibility of accessing resources linked to external links besides the digital platform, due to access restrictions.
