- Abstract
Introduction: Friendship positively influences human development. However, people with disabilities face difficulties in building and maintaining this bond. This study aims to explore and analyze the knowledge networks in the literature on friendship and disabilities from 2017 to 2022. Method: Using PRISMA criteria, the search was conducted in the Scopus and Web of Science databases. VOS viewer and Pajek software were used to construct and analyze the networks. Results: Sixty-eight articles were analyzed. The United States leads in publications, but the United Kingdom is more influential in the network. The main research areas are autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, social inclusion, social skills, and violence against people with disabilities. Influential documents address thematic analysis in psychology, and friendship among individuals with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability. Conclusions: Knowledge maps and network analysis help explore the literature, allowing an understanding of trends, the foundational intellectual structure, and scientific correlations. CAREER development , *EDUCATIONAL benefits , *SOCIAL influence , *SOCIAL media , *SOCIAL networks - Abstract
This paper analyses the use of social media by Uruguayan teachers, as well as the role of educational models on the Twitter/X platform. This is a mixed (quantitative-qualitative) study based on a survey of 206 teachers, a social media analysis of the Twitter/X platform, and in-depth interviews with nine leading educators identified on it. The results show that teachers use social media, in general, to find resources, learn from others and stay up to date with current developments in education. Leading educators, on the other hand, are particularly active on Twitter/X, where they share their opinions, thoughts and resources. They have training and professional experience in education and value the interaction, teaching and influence they generate on social networks. The paper also identifies some tips and warnings for using social media in an ethical, respectful and constructive manner. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CRIMINAL procedure , *CARTELS , *PUBLIC institutions , *ILLEGALITY , *CRIME analysis , *ORGANIZED crime - Abstract
Talking about organized crime implies acknowledging the dramatic and violent changes that Mexico has experienced in the last 35 years. Faced with this problem, how is it that criminal organizations, especially the Sinaloa Cartel, can operate under the framework of illegality? It is proposed that their activity is carried out because they have protection networks with governments, specifically in the six-year term of Felipe Calderón. The objective is to show that this Cartel does not co-opt all the institutions of the government framework, it only relates to those punitive nodes that allow it to continue operating its criminal action. All this is verified under the methodology of network analysis based on the measurement of degree centrality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this piece of research is to study productivity and scientific collaboration in the main Spanish sociology journals from a gender perspective. The authorship of 3171 documents published in these journals during the period 2001-2020 was analysed using bibliometric and social network analysis techniques. While there was an overwhelming male dominance at the start of the period, the results show a steady trend towards parity; however, this was only achieved during the 2016-2020 period, and not in all indicators. In conclusion, gender advances in sociology research have only partially come to fruition in Spain, but the scholarly monitoring system cannot be held accountable for this. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ELECTORAL coalitions , *LOCAL elections , *POLITICAL campaigns , *CONSTITUTIONS , *ELECTIONS - Abstract
Since the 1991 Constitution of Colombia, many elements of the electoral dynamics have been changing in this country. One of them, perhaps the most important one, is the significance that electoral alliances have taken for local and regional elections. With an analysis of the 2015 and 2019 elections, this article describes how inter-party alliances are formed in these two cases. For this purpose, a network analysis is used to establish which alliances have taken place, the number of them, the stakeholders involved, among other elements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

COCONUT farmers , *SOCIAL network analysis , *REGIONAL development , *SOCIAL capital , *COCONUT , *SOCIAL cohesion , *SOCIAL structure , *SOCIAL indicators - Abstract
Objective: To analyze the structure of social, technical, and commercial relationships established between coconut producers of the Pacific coast of the Cauca Department in Colombia. Methodology: The Social Network Analysis methodology was used. This methodology studies the structure and dynamics of the relationships established among actors. A survey was applied to 676 producers, and the information was analyzed based on the indicators of density, centralization, in-degree centrality and Modularity Class. Results: The indicator of density is low in all analyzed networks, which means incipient levels of social capital and cohesion. The resulting networks are decentralized, which means that there are several actors that are an important source of consultation. The clusters are configured based on geographic conditions and around recognized actors given their trajectory and experience. Limitations: Lack of evidence to support the relationship between social capital and development, lack of information and high degree of abstraction. Conclusions: Low levels of social capital around the activity were found, which result in information associated with the coconut production chain not flowing easily between actors and communities. Geographic conditions fragment existing relationships between producers, forming different clusters that hardly communicate with each other. The relevant actors identified are producers with extensive experience in the activity, collectors, and cooperatives. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SLEEP duration , *SLEEP quality , *COGNITIVE therapy , *MENTAL health , *SLEEP disorders , *SLEEP hygiene - Abstract
Insomnia is a sleep disorder associated frequently with physical and emotional health problems. Evidence suggests that it is a recurrent problem in adults in the general population, identifying fewer hours of sleep and poor sleep quality. Objective. To analyze the association of insomnia symptoms and identify core symptoms in Peruvian adults from the general population. Method. The sample consisted of 351 adults (53% men) who responded to the Athens Insomnia Scale. A regularized partial correlation network model was estimated. Results. Sleep duration, overall quality, and sleep malaise for problems were the most central symptoms in the network. The strongest conditional associations emerged between duration and sleep quality, malaise for problems sleep and interference with daily functioning. The network structure was accurate and stable (CS = .749). Conclusions. Sleep duration, overall quality, and sleep malaise for problems are relevant symptoms for understanding insomnia in adults of general population. Addressing those symptoms from cognitive behavioral therapy could improve anticipated awakenings, sleep initiation difficulties and sleepiness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

COMMUNITY policing , *POLICE patrol , *CRIME prevention , *HOMICIDE , *POLICE - Abstract
The article explores the potential of networked police governance. To do so, it uses network analysis to design a simulated network of reinforcements among community policing patrols, by urban sectors or CAI, based on the observed network data existing in 2016. The simulation focuses on the 2016 homicide hotspots and it is proposed to assess whether it could prevent their expansion or multiplication in 2017. The simulated network is shown to control and potentially reduce hotspots, despite the urban and socioeconomic contexts that support them and the scarce police resource. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Posttraumatic growth network structures were evaluated in males and females who lost a family member to COVID-19 to determine network variations according to sex. Six hundred sixty-nine Peruvian adults (M = 25.41, SD = 1.82) were included using the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory-X (PTGI-X) self-report measure. Two Gaussian plot models of partial correlations were estimated through the qgraph statistical package. The most central network domain items were emotional expression, closeness to others, and greater understanding of life-death issues. The highest connections were reported for items on the measures of personal relationships, appreciation for life, and spiritual-existential change. Both network models were found to be invariant and showed no significant differences at the level of structure and connections, and a difference was reported at the score level on the existential-spiritual change subscale in women. POLITICAL corruption , *ORGANIZED crime , *POLICE corruption , *LAW enforcement , *DEFERRED prosecution , *DATA corruption - Abstract
The article presents the data science approach of network analysis applied to the study of organized crime and corruption. The scientific and intellectual contributions of network studies and their potential usefulness in the field of criminal matters are highlighted. Keywords such as criminology, organized crime, network analysis, corruption, control, and dismantling are mentioned. Complex criminal network studies have used data science to analyze cases of Italian and American mafias involved in white-collar crimes, fraud, political conspiracies, and money laundering. In addition, network analysis has been applied to the study of corruption practices in public procurement processes. The lack of development of theories and strategies for crime and corruption control based on these studies is emphasized. Complex network analysis offers new perspectives for the study of crime and corruption, but it is necessary to establish bridges between disciplines and develop metrics that guide policies and investigative procedures. The text presents studies on network analysis applied to criminal and corruption activity. It also addresses network analysis in the context of public procurement. Previous studies that have identified the concentration and diversification of companies, as well as the structure and dynamics of networks, are mentioned. It is concluded that the larger the dominant group in an individual contracting market, the more likely acts of corruption within those groups will be investigated. Furthermore, the potential of network analysis in criminal theory and professional practice, especially in environmental criminology, is discussed. The text addresses the use of complex network analysis in the study of crime and corruption. Different methods used in these studies, such as anthropology, ethnography, and deviation models, are mentioned. It is highlighted that there is no theory that encompasses the complexity of the phenomenon, and the importance of creating predictive theories in criminology is emphasized. The selection of the data sample is also mentioned as key in complex network analysis, and the lack of access to information due to information concealment by actors and lack of transparency in governments is noted. The usefulness of these analyses as evidence in judicial processes is highlighted, and different data sources used in these studies are mentioned. Complex network analysis applied to crime and corruption groups is useful in providing knowledge and innovative methods. However, there is still a lack of sufficient studies focusing on providing law enforcement and policing actions with methodologies and strategies derived from complex network analysis. It is necessary to prove that these theories and strategies reduce crime and control the environment, without falling into the error of a theory that fits all problems. Complex network analysis is not a solution for all types of crime, but it can be useful in group or associative actions, such as organized crime, when combined with other compatible methods and theories. The document titled "Topology, robustness, and structural controllability of the Brazilian federal police criminal intelligence network" analyzes the topology, robustness, and structural controllability of the criminal intelligence network of the Brazilian Federal Police. Other documents mentioned in the text address topics such as the elimination of corruption in the public procurement process, the structure and dynamics of corruption networks extracted from deferred prosecution agreements, and the closure of networks and integration in the 20th-century American mafia. Studies on the detection of criminal organizations based on police data and corruption in organized crime in Chicago are also mentioned. The document provides a list of bibliographic references related to the topic. [Extracted from the article]

The aim of this study is to conduct a network analysis of agoraphobia disorder symptoms (with or without panic) according to age and gender, in a representative sample of 555 people over 65 years of age in the Community of Madrid. The network was estimated using the InsingFit package that implements a procedure called eLasso. The results reveal differentiated networks for men and women, and for the age groups 65-74 and 75-84 years, finding a higher percentage of occurrence in women in both situations and symptoms of anxiety and reasons for fear. Women fear a greater number of situations, while men seem to have their fears more localized and centralized in situations related to transport and travel when travelling alone. These results may be of interest for designing interventions that address the symptoms and the most important, different and characteristic relationships among them according to age and gender. COMMUNICATION network analysis , *RESEARCH personnel , *EDUCATIONAL evaluation , *EDUCATION research , *ACADEMIC achievement , *DECISION making , *MATHEMATICS education , *COMMUNICATION styles , *NUMERACY , *PSYCHOEDUCATION , *SCHOOL failure , *PSYCHOMETRICS - Abstract
Widespread research on educational systems has made it possible to identify the main factors that define students' educational success. Nevertheless, these studies have not been very efficient when it comes to transferring their conclusions to the applied contexts where those who teach or make decisions about educational systems move. The main reason for this failure lies on the unfamiliarity of education professionals with the sophisticated statistical and psychometric methodology used by most researchers. The goal of this paper is to analyze educational systems using the Network Analysis methodology, which is very affordable, clear, and intuitive for teachers and educational leaders without a great methodological sophistication. A sample of 7,882 eighth-graders was used. Students' mathematical skills were evaluated and data were obtained from their educational context. Network Analysis was used calculating indicators of centrality, as well as precision and stability of the network. The results indicate that academic self-concept and academic expectations have an important effect on performance in mathematics. The findings match with those previously obtained with other approaches. The Network Analysis methodology offers an ideal combination of analytical rigor and interpretative simplicity, that provides a great potential to be used in applied educational contexts for evidence-based decision making. This study aimed at verifying the association of message length and delay in university online discussions with academic achievement and students' influence on their classmates. Forums in Moodle were designed, and asynchronous online discussions with first-year undergraduate students of Educational Sciences were conducted. We gained word count from the learning management system, the weekly delay in posting a message to the forum was regarded, and we assumed the students' grades to know their academic success. To obtain an indicator of influence, we conducted a social network analysis from the interactions that emerged from the online discussions. Then, we calculated the eigenvector centrality of each student once the debate had been completed. Results showed a low monotonic association between grades and the message words or the delay in posting. There was a slight trend to achieve more eigenvector centrality since students took more time to send a message and when messages were more synthetic. However, we did not obtain values in the coefficients that would allow us to infer a relevant association. The level of correlation detected for the grades was significant and, above all, regarding eigenvector centrality. We discussed the limitations of this study, the need for more research, and the implications for educational practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Over the past years, psychopathology has frequently been represented as a complex system, where psychiatric symptoms are causally interconnected in a network architecture. The network theory of psychopathology has led to more than 300 novel publications, academic courses, methodology for estimating novel models, and freely available software. However, despite the success of this novel research avenue, all relevant information has mostly been published in English. This paper translates the network theory of psychopathology and its model, together with its relevance for research and clinical practice of psychology and psychiatry, to the Spanish language. To serve the dissemination of this theory, this paper serves as an introductory paper for Spanish scholars, for example, as a starting point to learn more about the approach or for academic courses. The main idea of the network theory of psychopathology is that the activation of one clinical symptom in the network leads to the activation of a neighboring symptom. If symptoms are strongly connected with each other, for example, excessive worry and insomnia, they are more likely to be in the same state, meaning that if a person faces a stressful life event such as losing one's job, the activation of the symptom excessive worry will increase the probability they will also suffer from insomnia. In this way, a whole symptom activation pattern develops from which mental disorders emerge. Mental disorders are conceived as stable states of strongly connected symptom networks, allowing for a common explanatory model for multiple mental disorders, thereby providing a comprehensive model of psychopathology. Traditional representations of mental disorders conceptualize symptoms as merely passive indicators of latent, underlying mental disorders which act as common causes for patients' symptomatology. The network theory of psychopathology flips the explanatory and statistical model: instead of focusing on one underlying cause or underlying causes, it proposes to study the direct interactions between these symptoms. This imposes two important implications for the conceptualization of mental disorders. First, symptoms are no longer statistically exchangeable since every symptom can have a different role in the onset and development of psychopathology. Some symptoms can be more important than others in keeping the whole system "stuck" in a disordered state. Second, comorbidity is conceptualized as clustering symptoms which are connected to each other via certain "bridge symptoms". Bridge symptoms are symptoms which are attributed to two (or more) mental disorders, such as Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). If a person suffers from symptoms of MDD, such as loss of motivation and depressed mood, this can lead to the activation of bridge symptoms such as fatigue and concentration problems, which by themselves lead to the activation of GAD symptoms such as irritability and excessive worry. In this study, we analyze the perception of economic inequality in everyday life in Spain based on political ideology. Using content analysis techniques, we processed 705 open-ended responses from 290 people and used network analysis to examine the relationships between the categories identified. We found that economic inequality is perceived primarily as social comparison and relative deprivation between individuals/groups. However, it is perceived more in terms of social justice when people are situated on the left (vs. the right) of the political spectrum. We discuss the perception of economic inequality as a multidimensional phenomenon situated in everyday life, which influences how we understand and react to social disparities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The process of creating a cartography, an interactive visualization, from the bibliographic data of the contents of the scien- tific journal Profesional de la información during its almost 30 years of life is presented. The cartography is available on the EPI journal website: https://profesionaldelainformacion.com/cartografia/EPI_GLOBAL/index.html. Its objective is to serve as a navigable index for the quick localization of information of interest to readers as well as a visual map that highlights the characteristics of the knowledge network that these data form through the interconnection of relationships between its nodes. This device has been created by extracting data from the journal's website using web scraping tools and the free software Gephi for network visualization. A graph viewer allows access and manipulation through the web. Navigation through the bibliographic data network is facilitated by different strategies: (1) the use of different colors for each category of node (author, keyword, number, and article); (2) the viewer's search tools, including a node label finder, a zoom bar, a magnifying glass, and a button to hide the network of relationships; and (3) the possibility of displaying different linked graphs. Selecting a node opens a side-space where all the attributes providing information about that node are displayed and that enables a new window to be opened, displaying all the information linked to an external page. The information on the authors is obtained from the Directory of Experts in the Management of Information (EXIT). This tool thus undeniable provides a useful source of secondary information on the journal, as were printed indexes in their day, with the advantage that it can be updated almost simultaneously with the publication of new issues. The data obtained will be used to carry out other analyses of the evolution of the journal, the topics of interest to the profession, and its stakeholders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Twitter has transformed into one of the main platforms for citizen engagement today. However, even though previous studies have focused on opinions about vaccines in general or about specific vaccines, opinions towards COVID-19 vaccines on Twitter have not been researched to date. The objective of this research is, by using social network analysis and language processing tools, to examine the degree to which the opinions and interactions present on Twitter are favorable or unfavorable towards the main COVID-19 vaccines. In addition, the relevance of each of the vaccines is studied, as well as their level of controversy. Likewise, the present study investigates, for the first time, the conversation from different perspectives including the content and also the participants, by analyzing in detail the verified accounts and using tools for the detection of bots. In global terms, the results from verified accounts show a moderate favorability towards the COVID-19 vaccines, the most accepted being those of Oxford-AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna, and Sputnik V. On the other hand, the vaccine that attracts the most attention is the Russian Sputnik V, which is also the most controversial, behind those developed in China. Finally, verified users are shown to be relevant agents in the conversation due to their greater capacity for dissemination and reach, while the presence of bots is practically non-existent. This article focuses on relations that digital audiences establish with the protagonists of socio-environmental conflicts in Peru. The samples are spontaneous comments in YouTube regarding the interviews about Bagua, the conflict that started in the Bagua province of the Amazon state in 2009, which keeps causing a climate of confrontation. Taking as its starting point the actornetwork theory, network analysis, and data mining, the research study raises the following questions: What type of relations emerge from virtual debates? How is the agency of actors (humans) and actants (nonhumans) portrayed and valued? It is concluded that the most important relations are in connection with the victims and victimizers of the conflict, who are positively or negatively valued owing to their role in the process. - Abstract
The aim of the present study was to obtain the psychometric properties of the Child perfectionism scale (Oros, 2003) adapted for adolescents, in 917 Peruvian adolescents, aged 13 to 18 years (M = 15.241, DT = 1.020). It was analyzed through confirmatory factor analysis, showing that the three-factor model had best parsimony with optimal fit indices (S-Bχ²/gl = 0.51; CFI = .95, SRMR = .056, RMSEA [IC 90%] = .055 [.049-.061]). Measurement invariance across sex was also evaluated. There was evidence of reliability and evidence of convergent validity regarding the Reynold Adolescent Depression Scale by means of Pearson's correlation and network analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

currently capitalizing on reflection on reflections about the future of the city in the new millennium. At the heart of this discussion lies the idea of urban space as the result of a system in which environmental variables (space design), social variables (population profi les) and psychological variables (uses and behaviors) intersect. Such complexity requires adequate analysis systems as well as straightforward ways to easily and rigorously represent the data obtained. This article ana lyses the dynamics of a square in Barcelona at two different times based on data obtained through systematic observation. This data will be analyzed as a net work using Network Analysis (AR) procedures. The data will be also sonified to extract information about their dynamics. For this purpose, the relationships between the nodes are converted into chord sequences that enable differentiated sound marks to be established for each moment ana lyzed. The joint use of AR and data so nifi cation allow for procedures in which visualization and listening complement each other to analyze socio- spatial dynamics, while offering an interesting aesthe tic result. SCHOOL choice , *TECHNICAL institutes , *BUSINESS schools , *DECISION making , *GLOBALIZATION , *ENTREPRENEURSHIP - Abstract
There is a great deal of criticism of the low relationship between the research processes and the business context in faculties, the management programs, and the poorly positioned business schools. This paper aims at determining relevant topics in administrative sciences by applying the analysis of networks to identify the institutions that handle recurrent topics, those that address specialized topics, and the territories that include research in the administrative field. The study identified the best worldwide and nationwide faculties, management programs, and business schools; and from this selection, we built a relational model of the interactions between institutions and topics by using the network theory. This type of analysis was implemented since it allows a systematic review, and the results become inputs that contribute to subsequent decision making by institutions involved in this field. Among the results, we identified the Columbia Business School, INSEAD Business School, Cornell Business College, Harvard Business School and, finally, the SLOAN School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as notable institutional nodes. Finally, the relevant thematic nodes were identified: those that are related to finance, entrepreneurship, globalization, and leadership. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
