The aim of this study was to examine whether the level of perception of the teachers concerning their communication competencies differs significantly in terms of different variables. Quantitative and qualitative research methods were both used to gather the data. The research, in which survey method was applied, was carried out with 80 teachers working in Yıldırım Trade High School. Qualitative data was collected through "Communication Skills Scale" developed by Ersanlı & Balcı (1998). Quantitative data was collected from semi-structured interviews made with 11 teachers. The results of the study indicated that vocational and non-vocational course teachers had a "satisfactorily high" level of perception concerning their communication competencies. It was found that there were no differences between vocational and non vocational course teachers' level of perception concerning their communication competencies. Results showed that gender, the faculty graduated from, branch, membership of a professional organization, frequency of attendance at in-service training activities on communication, the fact of having had a lecture on communication at university were not meaningful variables on the level of perception concerning their communication competencies.
