MASS media ethics , *HUMAN rights violations , *NEWSPAPER publishing , *SEX work , *LANGUAGE policy - Abstract
Within the social and organizational structure determined by the capitalist productionconsumption relations, the contents produced by the media have an ideological function within the framework of power relations. In especially news texts, social realities are reconstructed consciously in line with the language and policies of the Powers. Based on this, in this study, the contents produced in various media about Matild Manukyan, the owner of brothels, who was frequently on the agenda with his tax record holders in Turkey for a period, were discussed in the context of media, power-power relations, representation in the media and ethics. Descriptive content analysis was used as a method, and the news published in national newspapers and some other media contents related to the subject were examined. As a result, it has been determined that the media uses the same language with political and economic powers, even on sex work issue which has big ethically/moral problems, and creates an ethical gap by excluding many issues and concepts such as human rights violations, trafficking in women, and violence. Books are not just texts. There are many elements such as foreword, afterword, pictures, author's name, publisher, bibliography, tables, and table of contents in the books. These elements, which are physically in the same environment as the text, are expressed as peritextual elements. Readers also look at and read non-text elements while reading the book. However, peritextual reading levels may vary from person to person. This study was conducted with the aim of developing a scale to determine the peritextual reading levels of primary school students. In the study, scanning model was adopted in accordance with the quantitative research method. The study group of the scale was formed by stratified sampling method. During the process of creating an item pool for the scale, a literature review was conducted and expert opinions were taken. A total of 758 primary school third and fourth grade students participated in the study, 35 of which were in the pre-application, 572 in the exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and 151 in the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Data were analyzed using SPSS 22 and AMOS 24 program. As a result of the pre-application, validity and reliability analyzes were applied for the scale, which was reduced to 25 items. Alpha reliability coefficient of the scale was found to be .87. As a result of EFA, it was seen that the scale had a structure with three factors and sixteen items. In addition, these three factors explain 40% of the total variance of the scale. Goodness of fit indices obtained as a result of DFA X²=165.675 (sd=101, p=.00), X²/sd=1.64, RMSEA=.06, RMR=.03, CFI=.92, TLI=.90, IFI =.92 and the discovered structure was found to have a good fit. The sub-dimensions of the scale were named as "reading in-text elements, reading production elements and reading visual elements". As a result of the research, a valid and reliable peritextual reading level determination scale was obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MASS media ethics , *ONLINE journalism , *INTERNET , *DIGITAL technology , *CONTENT analysis , *OBJECTIVITY in journalism - Abstract
Media; it refers to a concept that provides information flow by covering all written, audio and visual media organs. In particular, the digitalization situation provided by the internet infrastructure has paved the way for media products to have different features and ways of use. This situation not only revealed a concept called new media, but also brought the traditional media to be tested frequently. The ethical principles of the media are valid for both media at this point. In parallel with the development of internet technologies, click-bait news, which is made for the purpose of bypassing the news and getting more clicks, contradicts the scope and purpose of the concept of news in the known sense, considering ethical principles. In this direction, the etymology of the news concept and the concept of ethics in the media were examined by drawing the last-minute tweets that Hürriyet, Milliyet and Mynet platforms sent on their Twitter accounts by data scraping method within the scope of the infrastructure to which click-trap news is connected from the past to the present, and the tweets examined were analyzed within the framework of ethical principles by subjecting them to content analysis. MASS media ethics , *MORAL judgment , *MANIPULATIVE behavior , *MASS media industry , *ALTRUISM - Abstract
Economic and political transformations have laid the groundwork for the emergence of new relationships in the media industry. Functions and responsibilities of the media 21. in the century, the power-power structure is progressing, changing from altruistic behavior to more manipulative attitudes. This situation, which is regarded as a return to monopolization, makes it necessary to question the cause of the deterioration in the structure of editorial independence from a critical economic political point of view. The variability of editorial independence has led directly to the investigation of media value judgments in media ethics as well as indirectly. From this point of view, the research aims to explain what editorial independence is, what factors its functions vary according to, in a critical economic policy approach. The research is a compilation paper, covered by literature review in qualitative approach. As a result of the research, it was understood that editorial independence is only a concept in literature and does not show activity in media outlets, and as a result, it was proposed that the regulation of monopolization and constitutional limits should be drawn clearly in the media in order to mention the existence of editorial independence. It is deduced that by making these arrangements, more emphasis will be placed on editorial independence by the press-broadcasting institutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
