Recent fundamental results concerning the ultimate performance of electromagnetic absorbers were adapted and extrapolated to the field of sound waves. It was possible to deduce some appropriate figures of merit indicating whether a particular structure was close to the best possible matching properties. These figures of merit had simple expressions and were easy to compute in practical cases. Numerical examples illustrated that conventional state-of-the-art matching structures had an overall efficiency of approximately 50% of the fundamental limit. However, if the bandwidth at -6 dB was retained as a benchmark, the achieved bandwidth would be, at most, 12% of the fundamental limit associated with the same mass for the matching structure. Consequently, both encouragement for future improvements and accurate estimates of the surface mass required to obtain certain desired broadband properties could be provided. The results presented here can be used to investigate the broadband sound absorption and to benchmark passive and active noise control systems.

In this work, piezoelectric PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 (PZT) thick films were deposited onto silicon and alumina substrates using sol-gel composite slurry. Thick films prepared with rough and attrited powders are compared. A time stable polymeric PZT sol was first synthesised as the binder. It was then used as a precursor for PZT powder fabrication. Powder attrition ball milling was optimised to reduce the particles size to 200 nm. Composite slurries were obtained by mixing PZT sol with attrited or rough powders and thick films were deposited by dip-coating. The film thickness, roughness and microstructure were studied as a function of powder content, particle size, sol concentration and slurry ageing. Electromechanical measurements were performed. By strictly controlling each step of the thick film fabrication, high coupling factor (thickness mode, kt) can be obtained using both types of powder. Nevertheless, with attrited powder, better and more reproducible effective coupling coefficients in thickness mode (kt up to 46%) were reported on silicon and alumina substrates.

In this study, high performance piezoelectric thick films were prepared by depositing only a few sol–gel infiltrated composite layers on Si/SiO 2 /Ti/Pt wafers. Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) powder, binder and infiltration sol were synthesised from the same-laboratory made time-stable polymeric PZT sol. Adding coarse powder (50 wt%) to the sol precursor, crack-free coatings were prepared by dip coating in the 30–50 μm thickness range in only 3–6 layers. The results showed that good performance can be achieved by controlling sol concentration, powder charge, composite sol ageing, number of infiltrations and heat treatments. The initial results showed that only a limited number of infiltrations are needed in the final stack to obtain high piezoelectric performance. For instance, a 40 μm thick film was prepared with 6 composite layers with a 0.7 M PZT sol charged with 50 wt% PZT powder after 2 months’ ageing. Poling was performed for 5 min under 15 V/μm in an oil bath at 170 °C after 5 infiltrations and final annealing at 700 °C for 10 min in RTA. Despite substrate clamping, this coating reached an effective thickness coupling factor up of to 39% at a resonance frequency of 30 MHz. This result was obtained with a non-doped PZT powder.

High frequency piezoelectric films were prepared using the composite sol-gel technique, by mixing PZT sol and laboratory-made powders, free-cracked thick films were deposited by dip-coating on silicon, alumina and porous PZT substrates. Only 3 composite layers and few final infiltrations were used to prepare 40 mum thick films. Reproducible electromechanical properties, i.e. thickness coupling coefficients around 40%, were obtained after a poling at 15V mum in an oil bath at 170degC. A pulse echo response was measured with a 35 mum thick film deposited on a porous PZT substrate. The corresponding characteristics are an axial resolution of 45 mum (with a bandwidth at 80*%) at -6dB and a center frequency of 20 MHz. These results showed that the composite sol-gel process is a good candidate to produce piezoelectric films with a thickness of few tens of microns with a minimization of fabrication steps.

The permeability of inclusions consisting of commercially available piezoelectric disks was investigated, leading to the observation of several resonances in the 100MHz–3GHz range. This could be described through a simple analytical relation, and the inclusions were deemed attractive for manufacturing metamaterials with negative permeabilities over a significant frequency range. Moreover, they can be used as reference permeability samples.

International audience; Landschaft und Ernährung sind untrennbar miteinander verbunden und bedingen einander. Diese enge Beziehung könnte durch ein gemeinschaftliches, nachhaltiges und lokales Projekt noch verstärkt werden: ein Projekt, das die Landwirte von heute und die Landschaftsarchitekten von morgen bewegen soll.; Paysage et alimentation sont indissociables et se révèlent l’un l’autre. Le lien qui les unit pourrait se renforcer dans un projet territorial commun et durable: un projet local qui doit animer les agriculteurs d’aujourd’hui et les paysagistes de demain. Associer la qualité gustative d’une denrée agricole au paysage dans lequel cette denrée a été produite est une pratique connue dans le monde des AOP, notamment vinicoles. L’hypothèse que nous voulons développer ici est que cette association entre goût et paysage pourrait aussi devenir un vecteur de valorisation des pratiques agroécologiques, et notamment de l’agroforesterie dont les paysages sont particulièrement faciles à identifier. L’enjeu est important car la reconnaissance par la société tout entière, au travers de ses pratiques alimentaires, des efforts réalisés par les pionniers de l’agroforesterie est une condition essentielle de son succès. Mais la qualité des paysages produits, même lorsqu’ils sont particulièrement vertueux, n’est pas rémunérée en tant que telle. Elle ne peut l’être, selon nous, que dans le cadre d’un projet de territoire dans lequel seraient mis en synergie les intérêts des agriculteurs, ceux des habitants et ceux des consommateurs. Ce que nous interrogerons ici, à travers les exemples étudiés dans le Bassin parisien, c’est le rôle que pourra jouer le paysagiste dans ce processus : sorti de sa fonction de maître d’œuvre, c’est plutôt en tant que médiateur, voire animateur de projet local, qu’il pourra être sollicité.

Les principes de l’ACS, formalisés en agronomie dans le courant des années 1930 aux Etats-Unis, s’appuient sur des techniques culturales simplifiées, évitant le labour au profit de semis directs sous couverts végétaux. Diffusés dans les pays soumis à des phénomènes d’érosion importants en relation avec l’expansion de leurs surfaces cultivées, l’ACS connait en France un intérêt croissant dans le contexte de montée en charge de l’agroécologie. La première université aux champs de l’ACS s’inscrit dans ce mouvement, au terme d’un projet porté par un collectif de treize agriculteurs situés sur les marges du Marais poitevin, territoire de controverses environnementales. Au travers de notre témoignage, nous cherchons à mettre en évidence le dispositif de médiation proposé par ces agriculteurs, confrontés à la nécessité de révéler une composante essentielle mais invisible du paysage : le sol. Au-delà du récit, et à travers une mise en perspective historique, ce texte évoque un ensemble de renversements qui jalonnent les pratiques agricoles actuelles, préfigurant peut-être de nouvelles opportunités d’évolution du rapport entre agriculture, société et environnement.
