Objective. To investigate the relationship between changes in blood glucose and blood lipid levels and the risk of thyroid cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods. A total of 159 patients with type 2 diabetes who were treated in our hospital between June 2018 and February 2021 were recruited and assigned into the observation group, including 136 patients with type 2 diabetes without thyroid cancer (nonthyroid cancer group) and 23 patients with type 2 diabetes complicated with thyroid cancer (thyroid cancer group), and 120 healthy subjects during the same period were selected as the control group. Glycated hemoglobin (HbAlc), total cholesterol (TC), triacylglycerol (TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were detected and compared. Pearson’s method was conducted to analyze the correlation between serum HbAlc level and TC, TG, HDL-C, and LDL-C levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus; multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to analyze the influencing factors of thyroid cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Results. The serum HbAlc level and the incidence of thyroid cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group ( P < 0.05 ). The levels of TC, TG, and LDL-C in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group, and the level of HDL-C was significantly lower than that in the control group ( P < 0.05 ). The correlation analysis showed that serum HbAlc levels in patients with type 2 diabetes were positively correlated with TC and TG levels and negatively correlated with HDL-C levels ( P < 0.05 ) and not correlated with LDL-C levels ( P > 0.05 ). Compared with the type 2 diabetes patients without thyroid cancer, the serum HbAlc, TC, and TG levels of the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the thyroid cancer group were significantly higher, and the levels of HDL-C were significantly lower ( P < 0.05 ). There was no significant change in the level of LDL-C ( P > 0.05 ). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that serum HbAlc, TC, and TC levels were all risk factors for thyroid cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus ( P < 0.05 ), while serum HDL-C level was a protective factor for thyroid cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus ( P < 0.05 ). Conclusion. Thyroid cancer in type 2 diabetes patients may be linked to elevated levels of blood HbAlc, TC, and TG. HbAlc may raise the risk of thyroid cancer in type 2 diabetes patients by modulating blood lipid levels, which might serve as a marker to assess the risk of thyroid cancer in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. However, since this study did not conduct in vitro and in vivo experiments, how HbAlc affects the pathogenesis of thyroid cancer has not been described in this study, which is also our future research direction. It is expected to provide new ideas for the prevention and treatment of thyroid cancer.

Gram-scale preparation of CoFe-LDH for highly efficient electrochemical water oxidation.

The cancer-promoting function of the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) LPP-AS2 has been documented in different cancers. Nonetheless, its role in thyroid carcinoma (THCA) remains unestablished. Reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting were conducted to estimate the expressions of lncRNA LPP-AS2, miR-132-3p, and OLFM1. The THCA cells' functions were assessed through CCK8 assays, Transwell invasion assays, scratch wound-healing migration assays, and quantification of caspase-3 activity. The in vivo assays were also implemented to assess tumor growth. Luciferase reporter and RNA immuno-precipitation assay (RIPA) experiments were executed to elucidate the interactions of miR-132-3p with lncRNA LPP-AS2 and OLFM1. THCA tissues and cells exhibited poor lncRNA LPP-AS2 and OLFM1 expressions and a robust expression of miR-132-3p. Overexpressing lncRNA LPP-AS2 constrained THCA cell proliferation, migration, and invasion and improved caspase-3 activity. The anti-tumor function of lncRNA LPP-AS2 was also validated in vivo. miR-132-3p had an interplay with lncRNA LPP-AS2 and OLFM1. Functionally, overexpressing miR-132-3p promoted the malignant THCA cell phenotypes. However, that tumor promotion was abolished by the additional overexpression of lncRNA LPP-AS2. The in vitro experiments also demonstrated that the repressive effect of OLFM1 overexpression on THCA cell malignant action could be offset by the miR-132-3p mimic. lncRNA LPP-AS2 impedes THCA progression via the miR-132-3p/OLFM1 axis. Our findings contribute a potential strategy in interfering with THCA progression.

The effectiveness of resveratrol (RES) on intestinal barrier dysfunction and colitis has been extensively studied. However, the specific effects of its microbial metabolites on gut barrier function remain unclear. Hence, we compared the protective effects of RES and its microbial metabolites dihydroresveratrol (DHR) and 3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propionic acid (4HPP) against intestinal barrier injury and colitis. Only 4HPP and RES significantly reduced paracellular permeability and the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines in lipopolysaccharides (LPS)-treated intestinal Caco-2 cells, which was consistent with the upregulation in tight junction (TJ) proteins. Furthermore, RES and 4HPP ameliorated intestinal barrier dysfunction and colonic inflammation in colitis mice, while DHR did not. In particular, the expressions of intestinal TJ proteins and Muc2 were restored by RES and 4HPP. The molecular mechanism involved the adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK)-mediated activation of CDX2 and the regulation of the SIRT1/NF-κB pathway. These findings provide new insights into understanding the protective effects of RES against intestinal barrier damage and colitis.

High catalytic efficiency and long-term stability are two main components for the performance assessment of an electrocatalyst. Previous attention has been paid more to efficiency other than stability. The present work is focused on the study of the stability processed on the FeCoNiRu high-entropy alloy (HEA) in correlation with its catalytic efficiency. This catalyst has demonstrated not only performing the simultaneous hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) with high efficiency but also sustaining long-term stability upon HER and OER. The study reveals that the outstanding stability is attributed to the spinel oxide surface layer developed during evolution reactions. The spinel structure preserves the active sites that are inherited from the HEA's intrinsic structure. This work will provide an insightful direction/pathway for the design and manufacturing activities of other metallic electrocatalysts and a benchmark for the assessment of their efficiency-stability relationship. Graphical neural network can expand edgecomputing capabilities to extract features from non-Euclidean spatialdata, and thus is suitable for edge computing data classification and filtering. In IoT edge computing, there are many computing nodes anddata to be transmitted. Therefore, how to transmit the most needed datato the computing nodes is an important issue, and a better recommendation model is needed to filter t he e dge d ata. L ightGCN i s a superiorrecommendation model based on graph neural network, but there is stilla problem of over-smoothing when the user-item relationship extractionlayer is stacked with multiple layers. To solve this problem, this paperproposes an improved graph neural network collaborative filtering algorithm for edge computing (ECCF) to build a deeper graph neural networkto achieve better feature extraction, keep the purity of local features,and improve recommendation performance. ECCF uses hard negativemining method as a sampling method to improve recommendation accuracy and training efficiency, and uses IndRNN with long and short-termmemory with self-attention layer to capture valid information.The experimental results of the model using Gowalla, Yelp 2018 and AmazonBook show that ECCF performs better in NDCG and Recall evaluationmetrics than LightGCN, IMP-GCN and NGCF. ECCF improves the recommendation accuracy while minimizing the complexity of the model,which is well adapted to be applied to data filtering for edge computing.

Background: 24h CT is routinely acquired post-thrombolysis. Parenchymal hematoma and brain edema are feared complications. Predicting complications that change management would help reduce unnecessary imaging. Objective: To evaluate the utility of 24h per-protocol CT scan for stroke patients after thrombolysis. Methods: A prospectively collected cohort of consecutive patients presenting with acute ischemic stroke to our hospital from 2013- 2021 who were treated with IV tPA without undergoing endovascular therapy was entered into our IRB-approved stroke registry. Neuroimaging performed within 48h after admission was reviewed. Patients’ demographics, past medical history, admission National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score, and medical variables were obtained. The primary outcome was significant radiologically findings (parenchymal hematoma or midline shift/herniation) leading to change in management (additional monitoring, emergent procedure, administration of mannitol or alteration in blood pressure goal). Results: From 2013 to 2021, 875 patients (mean age 69) who had IV tPA without undergoing endovascular therapy were identified, of which 472 (47.1%) were female. Median (IQR) NIHSS score was 9 (4-16) on admission. Imaging findings: 339 (38.7%) had expected evolving infarctions; 106(13.3%) developed any type of hemorrhagic transformation, including 66 (7.5%) who had hemorrhagic infarction and 50 (5.7%) parenchymal hematomas; 142(16.2%) developed any kind of mass effect, including 63 (7.2%) who had mild mass effect and 79 (9.0%) midline shift/herniation. There were 124 patients (12.1%) had significant findings (including parenchymal hematoma and midline shift/brain herniation) leading to change in the management. Patients who had significant findings had higher NIHSS score 16 (8-21) than those without 8 (4-15) (p Conclusions and interpretations: Our study showed that patients with high NIHSS score were more likely to have significant findings. 24-hour follow-up CT scan should be based on the risk of developing significant complications.

As the key half reaction of water-splitting electrolysis, the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) that occurs at the cathode directly determines the overall efficiency of hydrogen production. To improve the efficiency of electrochemical water splitting for hydrogen generation, efficient and robust catalysts need to be developed. Strain engineering, which represents an effective and promising category of strategies, can regulate the electronic structures of catalysts by modulating the lattice strain and ultimately optimizing the HER dynamics. This work critically reviews the recent progress of strain engineering in HER and provides future perspectives for this area. The methods and characterization techniques are also introduced in detail. Cu–Ni–Sn alloys have been widely used in the aerospace industry, the electronics industry, and other fields due to their excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, high strength, corrosion and wear resistance, etc., which make Cu–15Ni–8Sn alloys the perfect alternative to Cu–Be alloys. This paper begins with how Cu–Ni–Sn alloys are prepared. Then, the microstructural features, especially the precipitation order of each phase, are described. In addition, the influence of alloying elements, such as Si, Ti, and Nb, on its microstructure and properties is discussed. Finally, the effects of plastic deformation and heat treatment on Cu–Ni–Sn alloys are discussed. This review is able to provide insight into the development of novel Cu–Ni–Sn alloys with a high performance.

In this work, the crevice corrosion behavior and biofouling coverage of 316L stainless steel (316L SS), 2205 duplex stainless steel (2205 DSS), and 2507 super duplex stainless steel (2507 SDSS) in natural seawater were investigated through long-term field exposure tests. The results revealed that both artificial crevice corrosion and biofouling-induced crevice corrosion occurred on the surface of three stainless steels. The corrosion rate was ranked as 316L SS » 2205 DSS＞2507 SDSS. The deepest area of the artificial corrosion pit was at the edge of the crevice, which was related to the IR drop and acidification of the localized solution. The highest biofouling coverage and the most severe biofouling-induced corrosion occurred on the surface of 316L SS. The attachment of large organisms to the metal surface formed a fouling barrier layer, further blocking the flow of material over the crevices, and the artificial crevice corrosion was accelerated. The initiation of barnacle-induced corrosion was due to the formation of a crevice between the barnacle and the substrate, resulting in the entry of seawater. The acidification of the solution caused by catalytic-occluded cells was responsible for the continuous development of barnacle-induced corrosion, which was similar to the propagation of the artificial crevice corrosion.

P38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)12 (also known as P38 γ) is critical in the development and progression of various types of tumors. Despite the extensive literature on the subject, further studies are needed to elucidate its role in cancer progression. Here, a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis of a generalized cancer dataset was performed to explore the mechanism of MAPK12 regulation in tumorigenesis. Several tumor datasets and online analytical tools, including HPA, SangerBox, UALCAN, GEPIA2, STRING, ImmuCellAI, and MEXPRESS, were used to analyze the expression information on MAPK12 in several types of cancers. Western blotting and reverse transcription-quantitative PCR were used to verify the protein and mRNA expression levels of MAPK12, respectively, in human normal thyroid cells (HTORI-3) and thyroid carcinoma (THCA) cells. Cytotoxicity and EdU assays were used to verify the promoting effect of MAPK12 on cell proliferation in THCA cells. Analysis of several cancers found that MAPK12 was overexpressed in multiple cancer types. Upregulated MAPK12 mRNA expression levels were correlated with a worse prognosis in patients with several types of cancer. Cytotoxicity and EdU experiments showed that MAPK12 knockdown inhibited THCA cell proliferation. Gene Ontology-Biological Process and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses showed that the enrichment of MAPK12 genes was related to cell proliferation and the tumor immune microenvironment. These results showed that MAPK12 was closely related to the immune checkpoint, microsatellite instability, and tumor mutational burden and affected the sensitivity of the tumor to immunotherapy. This study showed that MAPK12 may be an immunotherapeutic and promising prognostic biomarker in certain types of tumors.

Nowadays, hardware security has become a serious concern for modern CPUs. State-of-the-art detection approaches rely heavily on trustworthy and intimate internal states, incurring significant design/operation overheads and additional risks to security and intellectual property. This article proposes an architecture called Jintide, which utilizes trusted external monitors to validate an untrusted CPU chip at runtime. This architecture records, replays, and analyzes the CPU’s IO and memory behavior with the architectural states. The Jintide simultaneously verifies whether the records are correctly replayed with the instruction set architecture and whether the records involve malicious behavior. Consequently, not only architectural but also micro-architectural threats can be detected. The Jintide adopts the states from the untrusted source because it has a built-in function to detect spurious states. The monitors comprise three types of chips (with 28-/40-nm TSMC technology): a tracer chip to record the behavior of IO ports, multiple tracer chips to record the behavior of DDR4 DIMMs, and a reconfigurable chip to verify these records with software states. As runtime external monitors, the Jintide would be especially suitable to constitute distributed large-scale clusters, which can amortize operation overheads. This scheme is effective in detecting pervasive hardware security issues, including vulnerabilities, backdoors, and hardware Trojans. The measured results show that a system composed of 300 000 Jintide CPUs containing Intel Xeon Skylake processors can detect over 99.8% of recognizable attacks at the cost of 0.98% performance loss. Hence, the Jintide is an extensible, low-cost, and effective solution to improve the hardware security of large-scale CPU clusters.

In this work, we fabricated a novel origami paper-based analytical device (oPAD) assisted by the nanostructuring effect of in situ Pd decoration of Cu/Co-doped CeO2 (CuCo-CeO2-Pd) nanospheres, functionalized with their strongly enhanced electrocatalytic properties to realize an electrochemical and visual signal readout system in oPAD, for highly sensitive detection of amyloid-β (Aβ). The CuCo-CeO2-Pd nanospheres were introduced as an enhanced "signal transducer layer" on account of the electron transfer acceleration caused by catalyzing glucose to produce H2O2 for differential pulse voltammetry signal readout and further 3,3'5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) oxidation for colorimetric analysis. Meanwhile, for achieving superior performance of the proposed oPAD, in situ growth of urchin-like gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) onto cellulose fibers was adopted to improve "the recognition layer" in favor of immobilizing antibodies for targeting Aβ through specific antigen-antibody interactions. Combined with the delicate design of oPAD, exhibiting actuation of the conversion procedure between hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity on paper tabs in the assay process, the oPAD successfully enabled sensitive diagnosis of Aβ in a linear range from 1.0 pM to 100 nM with a limit of detection of 0.05 pM (S/N = 3) for electrochemical detection, providing a reliable strategy for quantifying the Aβ protein in clinical applications. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of the potential of hydrogen (pH) and dissolved oxygen in artificial seawater on the passivation behavior of 316L stainless steel. Design/methodology/approach The corrosion behavior was studied by using electrochemical measurements such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and polarization curve. The passive films were characterized with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Findings The polarization resistance of the passive film decreases as the pH value drops ascribed to the formation of much more point defects. The donor carrier concentration (ND) in the passive film formed in the deaerated condition is lower than that in aerated conditions. Nevertheless, this phenomenon is the opposite when the pH value is 1 due to the significant decrease of Fe oxides/hydroxides coupled with the stable content of Cr oxides/hydroxides species. In addition, the compositional variation of the passive film also leads to the changes of its semiconductor properties from N-type to bipolar type. Originality/value This paper shows the variation of polarization resistance, corrosion potential, passive film composition and semiconductor properties with the pH value and dissolved oxygen. The results can serve as references to the further study on crevice corrosion of 316L in seawater.

It has been of interest in seeking electrocatalysts that could exercise equally high-efficient and durable hydrogen evolution upon nonselective electrolytes in both acidic and alkaline environments. Herein, we report a facile strategy to fabricate cobalt tungsten phosphides (CoxW2−xP2/C) hollow polyhedrons with tunable composition based on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) template method. By the deliberate control of W doping, the synthesized catalyst with the composition of Co0.9W1.1P2/C is found to be able to achieve a current density of 10 mA·cm−2 at overpotentials of 35 and 54 mV in acidic and alkaline media, respectively. This combined electrochemical property stands atop the state-of-the-art electrocatalyst counterparts. To unveil the peculiar behavior of the structure, density functional theory (DFT) calculation was implemented and reveals that the surface W-doping facilitates the optimization of hydrogen absorption free energy (ΔGH*) as well as the thermodynamic and kinetics barriers for water dissociation, which is coupled with the hollow structure of Co-W phosphides, leading to the prominent HER catalytic performance. Hyperuricemia is an independent hazard factor of renal injury and can induce renal fibrosis, promoting the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study aimed to explore the probability of chlorogenic acid (CGA) as a potential substance for preventing hyperuricemia nephropathy (HN). D-Psicose, as a low-calorie rare sugar, has attracted a lot of attention in recent years for alternating to sucrose. The anti-obesity effect of D-Psicose has been extensively confirmed in previous studies, however, the impact of D-Psicose on colitis remains vague. Here, we firstly evaluated the effect of 21 days of D-Psicose prophylactic intervention on DSS-induced colitis in C57BL/6 mice. The pathological symptoms, inflammatory cytokines levels, gut microbiota composition, short chain fatty acids production and colonic barrier integrity were comprehensively evaluated. The results confirmed that D-Psicose intervention aggravated colitis, characterized by the exacerbation of colon shortening, increase of colonic inflammatory infiltration, and marked exaltation of disease activity indices and IL-6, IL-1β and TNF-α levels. Further, the dysfunction of gut microbiota was identified in the Psicose group. The abundance of pro-inflammatory bacteria Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group was significantly up-regulated while the abundance of probiotics Akkermansia and Lactobacillus were significantly down-regulated in the Psicose group compared to the Model group. Moreover, the production of short chain fatty acids was suppressed in the Psicose group, accompanied by a decrease in the level of Muc-2. Collectively, the underlying mechanism of the exacerbation of colitis by D-Psicose intervention might be attributed to microbiota dysfunction accompanied by the reduction of short chain fatty acids, which leads to the damage of the mucosal barrier and the intensification of inflammatory invasion.
