1. Syndrome of subjective doubles as a rare presentation of a first-episode psychosis

Abstract

In this paper, we report the case of a man in his 30s with a first-episode psychosis, characterised by a subtype of delusional misidentification syndrome in which the delusion of doubles is exclusively of the patient’s own self. This subdivision can be termed ‘syndrome of doubles of the self’ or ‘syndrome of subjective doubles’. Additionally, an examination of the patient’s mental state showed paranoid delusions. After being evaluated in the emergency department, the patient was hospitalised, and medicated with antipsychotic drugs. One week later, he was discharged with total remission of psychotic symptoms. This is a rare and curious presentation of a psychotic episode, with very few similar cases described to date.

3. A novel clinical protocol for dentin hypersensitivity management based on regenerative dental gel associated with calcium: A case study in a patient with periodontal disease

Abstract

Introduction: Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is defined as pain caused by dentin exposure in response to various stimuli. Patients with periodontal disease (PD) frequently report DH due to root surface exposure or after periodontal treatment. Bioactive agents derived from calcium and/or silicon-based systems, such as REFIX technology, have been used to promote tooth regeneration, with focus on tooth sensitivity treatment. Case Report: Based on this, the efficacy of REFIX gel combined with calcium on the treatment of a DH was evaluated in a PD 45-year-old male patient. The patient’s right and left sides were randomly selected to use one of the prophylaxis dental protocols: REFIX dental gel/calcium (RDGCa) (experimental: 13, 14, 15 teeth) or Pumice Stone (PS) (control: 23, 24, 25 teeth). The products were applied using dental polishing brush during 10 seconds in each tooth surface. Schiff Air Index (SAI) for sensitive teeth (0–3) were performed by applying air jet to each tooth’s vestibular surface for 5 seconds after and before the prophylaxis. The patient reported pain and interruption of the stimulus before and after PS prophylaxis (SAI 3 and 3 respectively). There was a reduction in pain when RDGCa protocol was used (SAI 3—before/SAI 1—after). In this instance, the patient felt the stimulus but did not request to be interrupted. This contrasted with the outcomes of the initial stimulus as well as PS. Conclusion: The results showed that the RDGCa strategy was successful in lowering DH in PD patients.

Abstract

Background: Biosurfactants are natural bioactive compounds produced from fungi, bacteria and plants. These molecules have several properties that enable them to be involved in various industrial applications. The surface-active properties of biosurfactants allow their use in various sectors, such as agriculture, health, cosmetics, bioremediation/ petroleum, mining, and bioprocess. Objective: The objective of this study was to analyze the patents deposited in intellectual property databases for applications of biosurfactants in the areas of agriculture, health, cosmetics, bioremediation/petroleum, mining, and bioprocesses, with the research period consisting of the last six years. Methods: This study targeted the use of biosurfactants in various industrial sectors. The patent search was carried out using the Google Patents platform, a platform that is commonly used for this purpose and freely accessible. Results: During the search for patents related to applications of biosurfactants in industry filed in the last 6 years, results were found to be distributed in the following areas: agriculture (70), cosmetics (2311), bioremediation/petroleum (179), health (1794), mining (5), and bioprocess (133). Six patents were selected from each area, except for health and mining, for which the search resulted in only 5 and 4 patents, respectively, to be discussed and provide information on the biotechnological applications of biosurfactants in the industry. Conclusion: The present study showed a wide area of application of biosurfactants in industry. The interest in the inclusion of biosurfactants in the industry is directly related to the need for more sustainable solutions to solve real market problems. The cosmetics sector presented the most patents that employ the use of biosurfactants.

Abstract

Abstract: Type 1 diabetes mellitus is a clinical condition characterized by insufficient insulin pro-duction due to progressive loss of pancreatic islet β-cells mediated by an autoimmune response. This deregulation of the immune system is caused by the action of genetic, epigenetic, and envi-ronmental factors in varying combinations for each individual. Although the inflammation of the islets with immune cell infiltration, known as insulitis, is an important element in pathogenesis, oth-er factors are necessary for disease initiation. Associations with variants of HLA and other genes related to immune system function, mainly haplotypes HLA-DR3-DQ2 and HLA-DR4-DQ8, are more evident. The influence of polymorphisms and epigenetic modifications, as well as the micro-biome, is convincing proof of the existence of a complex interaction between genetic, immune, and environmental factors in the etiology and pathogenesis of this metabolic disorder. Loss of self-tolerance to autoimmunity is a critical point in the development of the disease, and regulatory T cells play a key role in this process. Thus, any failure of these cells, either due to an insufficient number or altered expression of cytokines and transcription factors, may be the trigger for the onset of the disease. The protective action of regulatory T cells is controlled by gene expression that is modulated by epigenetic modifications, including the dysregulation of noncoding RNAs. This re-view takes an updated approach to the natural history of type 1 diabetes, focusing on the factors in-volved in the etiology and pathogenesis.

7. Difficulty of the patient in the permanence of the celiac disease treatment: a literary review

Abstract

Objective: Bibliographically analyze the challenges, importance and difficulties of adherence to treatment in individuals with celiac disease. Bibliographic review: Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disease due to intolerance to gluten, which makes it difficult for the body to absorb nutrients and water. CD has a prevalence of up to 1% of the world's population, of which approximately 300,000 Brazilians are carriers. The pathophysiology of CD occurs by an inflammatory activation that occurs mainly by immunological processes mediated by T cells, damaging the microvilli and leaving the intestine with a smooth appearance. Due to the inflammatory process, the classic picture of malabsorption generates symptoms that include diarrhea, steatorrhea and lack of appetite, as well as extra intestinal manifestations that include dermatitis, malnutrition, pubertal delay and others. Currently, it is understood that there are not many treatment options for CD, since the gluten-free diet is the only one that is effective for these patients. Therefore, adherence to such therapy is not so simple, since there are a number of social and economic difficulties that hinder this process. Final considerations: Although CD has a simple therapeutic option, it involves several intercurrences which impair adherence to treatment and can cause consequences for celiac patients. That said, promoting access to information about CD is important not only for celiac patients, but also for the general population in order to facilitate better and simplified access to gluten-free products.

8. Antimicrobial Activities of Substituted 4-N-alkylated-2-trifluoromethylquinoline Analogs Against Nontuberculous Mycobacteria

Abstract

Background: Many contagious diseases have been caused by a variety of nontuberculous mycobacteria, opportunistic pathogens that can cause disseminated or localized diseases, particularly pulmonary, skin, and soft tissue infections. Objective: In this study fifty-five substituted 4-N-alkylated-2-trifluoromethylquinolines were evaluated against five species of nontuberculous mycobacteria: Mycobacterium fortuitum, Mycobacterium chelonae, Mycobacterium abscessus, Mycobacterium kansasii, and Mycobacterium avium. Methods: The antimycobacterial activities of all tested compounds were assessed using the microplate procedure with broth microdilution assay. The most actives were selected for their potential cytotoxic activity against Vero cells. Results: Most of the compounds displayed some activity against M. kansaii, of which 12, 15, 34, 37 and 48 were the most active at 3.12 μg/mL. The derivative 8 was the most active against M. fortuitum at 6.25 μg/mL and the most active against M. chelonae at 3.12 μg/mL. The derivative 2 was the most active against M. avium at 12.5 μg/mL, and 9 the most active against M. abscessus at 12.5 μg/mL. All the most active compounds showed MIC values similar to the references drugs used against these species. Conclusion: 47 compounds displayed some activity against some of the species analyzed, highlighting derivatives 12, 15, 34, 37, and 48, which presented the lower MIC values. Compounds 34 and 37 displayed the highest activity and did not show cytotoxicity against Vero cells. These findings have opened new perspectives for the research of new drugs against these mycobacterial species based on the quinoline nucleus.

Abstract

Introduction Acute kidney injury (AKI) has been identified as one of the most common and significant problems in hospitalized patients with COVID-19. However, studies examining the relationship between COVID-19 and AKI in low- and low-middle income countries (LLMIC) are lacking. Given that AKI is known to carry a higher mortality rate in these countries, it is important to understand differences in this population. Methods This prospective, observational study examines the AKI incidence and characteristics of 32,210 patients with COVID-19 from 49 countries across all income levels who were admitted to an intensive care unit during their hospital stay. Results Among patients with COVID-19 admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), AKI incidence was highest in patients in LLMIC, followed by patients in upper-middle income countries (UMIC) and high-income countries (HIC) (53%, 38%, and 30%, respectively), whereas dialysis rates were lowest among patients with AKI from LLMIC and highest among those from HIC (27% vs. 45%). Patients with AKI in LLMIC had the largest proportion of community-acquired AKI (CA-AKI) and highest rate of in-hospital death (79% vs. 54% in HIC and 66% in UMIC). The association between AKI, being from LLMIC and in-hospital death persisted even after adjusting for disease severity. Conclusions AKI is a particularly devastating complication of COVID-19 among patients from poorer nations where the gaps in accessibility and quality of healthcare delivery have a major impact on patient outcomes.

12. Synthesis and Characterization of MCM-41 Nanomaterials Containing Titanium and Application for Catalytic Oxidation of BTEX

Abstract

The TiO2/MCM-41 nanomaterials were synthesized by impregnation with an excess solvent with different percentages of titanium dioxide. They were used for catalytic degradation of Benzene Toluene Ethylbenzene and Xylenes (BTEX) in the presence of hydrogen peroxide in aqueous media. The obtained materials were characterized by X-ray Diffraction, nitrogen adsorption-desorption using the BET method and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. The nanostructured phase of the hexagonal ordered materials was obtained even after modification with titanium oxide and calcination. The characterizations have proven the effectiveness of the synthesis method used to incorporate titanium with anatase structure impregnated in the nanoporous of the MCM-41 material. Anatase is the main active phase of TiO2 to oxidize organic compounds. The catalytic evaluation wascarried out in a semi-bath reactor with 20 mL of a mixture containing BTEX (100 mg/L), hydrogen peroxide (2.0 mol/L) and TiO2/MCM-41 (2.0 g/L) in aqueous media. The reactions were carried out at a temperature of 60°C for 5 hours, and the analyses were performed by gas chromatography with a photoionization detector and headspace sampler. The catalytic tests showed satisfactory results with more than 95% of conversion, where the catalyst 48%TiO2/MCM-41 presented higher performance.

O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar etapas da produção de legendas para pessoas surdas ou ensurdecidas e processos de tradução no par linguístico Libras (Língua Brasileira de Sinais) - português. Por meio de uma pesquisa documental e qualitativa, investigamos como tais procedimentos foram desenvolvidos pelo “TradInter Lab: laboratório de tradução audiovisual acessível e interpretação Libras - português” da UFRJ (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro) para promover a acessibilidade comunicativa em conteúdos audiovisuais de eventos acadêmicos. A fundamentação teórica baseia-se em estudos sobre tradução audiovisual e acessibilidade comunicativa, normativos legais brasileiros e reflexos da pandemia de COVID-19 nesses processos. Os resultados preliminares apontam caminhos para uma tradução audiovisual cada vez mais acessível.

Abstract

Self-care is one of the main factors altered in the life of a person with an ostomy. Self-care requisites with nursing support are necessary. Objectives: To map the self-care requisites for people with intestinal ostomies in their adaptive process, guided by Orem’s theory. Materials and methodology: A scoping review was conducted between May and June 2022, in which studies published from 2000 to 2022 were selected, based on Orem’s self-care deficit nursing theory. The sources of evidence used were Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, Cinahl, Scopus, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, Nursing database, Índice Bibliográfico Español en Ciencias de la Salud, Web of Science, Scientific Electronic Library Online, Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, Open Access Scientific Repositories of Portugal, Theses Canada, DART-Europe E-Theses Portal, and National ETD Portal. Studies presenting at least one requisite of self-care for people with intestinal ostomies, whether or not they addressed Orem’s theory, and that were published in full were included. We followed the recommendations of the Joanna Briggs Institute and the PRISMA International Guide, registered in the Open Science Framework (10.17605/OSF.IO/XRH5K). The following descriptors and search strategies were used: (ostomy OR colostomy OR ileostomy OR stoma) AND (self-care OR self-management) AND (adaptation OR adjustment). Results: The final sample was composed of 87 studies. In universal requisites, studies in the category “nutritional aspects” predominated, of which the most frequent was “eat regularly and follow a balanced diet” (23; 26.4%); in developmental requisites, the prevalent category was “stoma and peristomal skin care” and requisite “assess peristomal skin integrity” (27; 31.0%); in the health deviation requisites, the predominant category was “choice of collection equipment and adjuvant products” and the requisite “use hydrocolloid powder to absorb moisture in cases of dermatitis” (13; 14.9%). Conclusions: The study contributes to guiding the assistance to the person with an ostomy, improving the self-care learning process. However, new intervention studies are still needed.

Abstract

A Apendicite Aguda (AA) é caracterizada pela inflamação do apêndice. Sua prevalência é mais frequente em homens quando comparado às mulheres. O risco de desenvolver a doença ao longo da vida é de aproximadamente 1 em cada 11 pessoas. A teoria mais consistente a respeito da etiologia da AA gira em torno de uma obstrução luminal do fundo cego do apêndice. Os principais sintomas da doença são dor em cólica periumbilical que se intensifica por um período de 24 horas e se irradia para a fossa ilíaca direita, acompanhada de náuseas, vômitos, febre e perda de apetite. Alguns sinais como o de Romberg, de Rosving, e o de Psoas são descritos para investigação da doença. Ademais, sistemas de pontuação clínica, como o escore de Alvarado, associado a exames de imagem, como a ultrassonografia e a tomografia computadorizada, podem ser muito úteis para comprovação diagnóstica, além de contribuírem para a diferenciação entre apendicite complicada e não complicada. No que se refere ao diagnóstico diferencial, existem importantes doenças que precisam ser lembradas e que possuem uma sintomatologia parecida, como a Doença Inflamatória Pélvica, torção de cisto ovariano, linfadenite mesentérica e intussuscepção intestinal. O tratamento da AA, na apendicite não complicada, possui como padrão ouro a apendicectomia. Todavia, na AA complicada, com exceção dos pacientes com peritonite difusa, existem indicações para o tratamento conservador com antibioticoterapia, apesar de não ser um consenso.

16. PRÁTICA SIMULTÂNEA E INTEGRADA DO FUTSAL E DO FUTEBOL DE BASE NA FORMAÇÃO - PLANO DE IMPLEMENTAÇÃO DO MODELO DE GESTÃO

Abstract

O Futsal é reconhecidamente uma modalidade cujo acesso e viabilidade de prática permite a participação de um maior número de adeptos. Além desta questão, as características do Futsal favorecem o desenvolvimento do potencial esportivo dos jogadores. Na prática do Futsal a média de participação por contato na bola é 600% maior, esse fato favorece o aprendizado de diversos conceitos técnico-táticos. Dadas as características do treino e do jogo de Futsal, atualmente os clubes de Futebol têm voltado sua atenção para o potencial formativo que a modalidade possui, sobretudo ao se pensar na transferência de habilidades para o Futebol. O objeto de investigação partiu da identificação nos clubes brasileiros algum modelo de gestão integrada dos Departamentos de Futsal e de Futebol de Base. A amostra foi composta por 25 clubes de Futebol das Séries A e B. Os questionários foram elaborados a partir de uma perspectiva quali-quanti (ou mista) descritiva. Os resultados mostraram que 28% dos clubes não possuem em sua estrutura um Departamento de Futsal e/ou nenhum tipo de relação com a prática simultânea entre o Futsal e o Futebol em seus processos formativos. É possível concluir que a maior parte dos clubes de destaque no Futebol brasileiro, adotam formas de integração e inclusão do Futsal nos processos de captação, formação e transição do futebolista, não competindo internamente e/ou esportivamente com o Futebol, sendo pertinente adoção de modelos de gestão integrados, mesmo que parcialmente adequados para esse intento.

Abstract

Objetivo: Tem-se por objetivo analisar na literatura atual, como se dá a gestão do cuidado em saúde para pessoas com doença crônica. Método: Revisão sistemática da literatura, descritiva e qualitativa, realizada nas bases: Portal de Periódicos da CAPES, Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde – LILACS, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrievel System Online – MEDLINE, Google acadêmico e Scientific Electronic Library Online – SciELO. Sendo assim, foram definidos os critérios de inclusão e exclusão: textos integrais, gratuitos, publicados entre 2012 a 2022, que abordassem de forma direcionada sobre o tema, no idioma inglês, português e espanhol. Após o processo de filtragem dos critérios de inclusão, leitura dos artigos integralmente e análise minuciosa, foram selecionadas 06 publicações. Resultados: Os temas mais citados foram: descontinuidade do cuidado, fragmentação em saúde, má comunicação entre os serviços e profissionais de saúde, e por fim, a necessidade de capacitações e ações de educação permanente efetivas. Conclusão: Enfrentar os desafios do aumento da prevalência de doenças crônicas e seus impactos, exigirá grandes mudanças no sistema de saúde, bem como afetará na qualidade de vida dos pacientes.

Abstract

In full-arch rehabilitation with implant-supported fixed prostheses, using monolithic zirconia seems to have several advantages regarding function and esthetics. However, the current scientific evidence is still limited. Thus, the aim of this investigation was to systematically review the literature on monolithic zirconia restorations for full-arch rehabilitation, particularly pursuing the survival rate and mechanical and biological complications. This study’s protocol was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42022301799). The primary literature search was performed in PubMed/MedLine and Web of Science, and a manual search was performed (checking cross-references). The focused question was, “In an adult population with one or both edentulous arches (P), the oral rehabilitation with implant-supported fixed-monolithic zirconia (full arch) (I), compared with oral rehabilitation using fixed-metal-ceramic prosthesis on implants (C), did show superior clinical results (O) in a minimum follow-up of 1 year (T)?” Inclusion and exclusion criteria were defined. Joana Briggs Institute tools were used to evaluate the quality of the studies. Meta-analysis was performed for the variable survival rate (%), applying the specific continuous moderator (follow-up). Data heterogeneity (I2) was assessed. From the initial search, 327 references were obtained. After eliminating duplicates and applying the inclusion/exclusion criteria by reading the titles, abstracts, and full text, seven articles were included. All included articles were observational longitudinal retrospective studies, with a number of prostheses between 7 and 2039. The mean age was 60 years, and the mean follow-up was 49.7 months. They had mandibular, maxillary, or bimaxillary rehabilitations, always with screw-retained retention, with an average survival rate of 97.23%. The number of implants ranged between four and eight. The quality of the articles was over 70%, and the heterogeneity was considered low (I2 = 28.64%). Within a mean follow-up of around four years, full-arch implant-supported monolithic zirconia rehabilitations had a high survival rate and minimal complications.

Na área de construção civil, a norma e a certificação ISO 9000 (International Organization for Standartization), bem como Controle Estatístico de Processo (CEP), ajudam na implantação de programas para melhoria da qualidade eliminando desperdícios, reduzindo índices de defeitos, alcançando um padrão de qualidade, além de aumentar a aumentar a satisfação dos clientes. Neste trabalho utilizou-se carta de controle para dados variáveis para analisar as resistências de trinta lotes de concreto de 35 MPA em 7, 28 e 45 dias de um controle tecnológico do concreto. Verificou-se que o processo encontrava-se fora de controle então utilizou-se a ferramenta da qualidade Espinha de Peixe para identificar alguns problemas de causa raiz.

22. CONSERVAÇÃO DE PEÇAS ANATÔMICAS EM CLORETO DE SÓDIO: UM ESTUDO COM PRODUTO DE FECUNDAÇÃO

Abstract

Introdução: Os materiais de origem humana geralmente são conservados em formaldeído, para possibilitar o estudo da anatomia humana, tal conservante possui baixo custo e boa fixação, contudo é toxico. Diante do exposto é necessário, o estudo de outros métodos de conservação, menos prejudiciais, como a solução de NaCl 30%. Objetivo: Comparar a conservação de peças anatômicas em solução de NaCl à 30% e formaldeído a 10%. Método: Pesquisa experimental, exploratória e descritiva, realizada com dois produtos de abortamento, no laboratório de anatomia de uma universidade pública, no estado do Paraná/BR. Foi realizada fixação em solução de formol 10%, em seguida uma amostra foi lavado em água corrente e armazenado em solução de NaCl à 30%. Após 6 meses da conservação em solução salina, foram coletadas amostras, estas foram submetidas a análise de crescimento bacteriano. Avaliou-se tonalidade e turgor cutâneo, odor e peso, bem como crescimento bacteriano. O estudo seguiu os preceitos éticos (CAAE: 53740121.9.0000.9247). Resultados: Foram realizadas observações após 24h, 7, 30, 60, 90 e 180 dias. O feto em solução de NaCl não possui odor, e diminuição do turgor da pele. Ambas a amostras não apresentaram crescimento bacteriano. Considerações finais: A solução de NaCl a 30% desidrata a pele, mas não altera significativamente a forma e estrutura, ainda não possui odor e nem toxicidade, o que garante benefícios a saúde de quem os manipula, bem como tal concentração de NaCl inibe de forma efetiva o crescimento bacteriano nos tecidos e na própria solução, se demostrando eficaz na conservação.

Abstract

O estilo de vida sedentário envolve um gasto energético similar aos valores basais em repouso, sendo prejudicial à saúde. Dessa forma, o presente estudo objetiva sintetizar o conhecimento produzido sobre indicadores clínicos, fatores causais e relações clínicas entre os indicadores e os fatores causais do diagnóstico de enfermagem estilo de vida sedentário em estudantes universitários. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura, realizada no mês de novembro de 2022. As fontes de dados consultadas foram: Scopus Content Overview, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, PubMed e Web of Science. A amostra foi composta por dez artigos. Em relação aos estudos incluídos, todos eram internacionais, publicados em sua maioria no ano de 2021 (30%) e escritos na língua inglesa (90%). O principal indicador clínico encontrado foi atividade física menor que a recomendada. Quanto aos fatores causais, encontrou-se tempo de tela excessivo, tempo de atividade física insuficiente, falta de tempo para se exercitar, tempo sentado prolongado, atividades sedentárias educacionais e socialização sedentária. As relações clínicas encontradas foram excesso de adiposidade, sono prejudicado e saúde mental prejudicada. Conclui-se que a literatura referente aos indicadores clínicos, fatores causais e relações clínicas do diagnóstico estudado é limitada, necessitando de pesquisas que possam preencher as lacunas de conhecimento.

24. O impacto do isolamento social determinado pela pandemia do COVID-19 na saúde mental dos idosos: uma revisão sistemática

INTRODUÇÃO: Devido a pandemia da COVID-19, tem-se discutido o impacto do isolamento social na saúde mental da população. Entretanto, poucos estudos avaliaram o impacto aos idosos. Desse modo, é importante avaliar a real consequência a esse grupo etário, assim como poder demonstrar a necessidade de instituir medidas preventivas que objetivam reduzir e minimizar o sofrimento mental deles. OBJETIVO: Avaliar o impacto do isolamento social, devido à pandemia pela Covid-19, na saúde mental dos idosos. METODOLOGIA: É uma revisão sistemática, na qual foi realizado buscas de alta sensibilidade, por estudos qualitativos e observacionais.Os resultados foram exportados para o Rayaan, plataforma na qual os pesquisadores se basearam em critérios de inclusão e exclusão pré definidos para a seleção final. RESULTADO: Foram analisados 475 artigos, sendo selecionados sete ao final. Os artigos analisados permitiram apontar a situação da saúde mental em idosos durante o isolamento social. Quatro estudos avaliaram que indivíduos acima de 50 anos apresentaram maiores problemas em relação à saúde mental; em contrapartida, três estudos apresentaram resultados divergentes, uma vez que a saúde mental dos jovens foi afetada de modo semelhante ou em maiores proporções que a dos idosos, em relação ao humor e à insônia. CONCLUSÃO: Foi perceptível a influência do isolamento social nos idosos com piora dos distúrbios psiquiátricos, destacando-se a depressão e ansiedade. Logo, são necessárias medidas preventivas e paliativas para apoio psicológico desse grupo etário, com o objetivo de minimizar e prevenir o sofrimento mental.

25. Intersectional Discrimination in European Labour Markets in the Voices of TCN Women

Abstract

Despite migration being a universal and secular phenomenon, recent studies and latest statistics show that unemployment among third-country nationals aged between 15 and 64 years old is generally higher than the rate among the overall population (76% among newcomers). Within this context, the current study aims to find out common patterns concerning the barriers that Third Country National (TCN) Women face in the host labour market and facilitating factors they used to cross them. The current research is supported by a qualitative methodology, based on 74 interviews to women from nine European countries and the analysis of 11 success stories. The interviewees have a very heterogeneous sociodemographic profile, concerning age, country of origin, host country and educational background. Despite some TCN women being employed, most are currently unemployed or in precarious condition. Our study proposes a four-fold categorisation of barriers faced by TCN women: i) cultural and linguistic; ii) diplomas; iii) support system; iv) discrimination. The lack of language skills was mentioned by almost all the women interviewed because free or easily affordable courses are limited.The second category of barriers entails the complexity of recognising academic qualifications and working experience from their home countries. The lack of a supporting system has impact in different dimensions of social and professional inclusion. The last category represents a large number of dimensions, related to an intersectional discrimination based on gender, race and religion. Regarding the facilitating factors that 11 women with integration success stories shared, we would highlight: i) the role and importance of Social and Solidarity migrant organisations as a support for TCN women; ii) the recognition the added-value of TCN women skills, such as being proficient in several foreign languages; iii) the empowerment of success stories reported by the storyteller herself and by other women in a similar situation; iv) the resilience to not give up, despite a considerable amount of obstacles.

Abstract: Alzheimer's and Parkinson's are neurodegenerative disorders that affect a great number of people around the world, seriously compromising the quality of life of individuals, due to motor and cognitive damage. In these diseases, pharmacological treatment is used only to alleviate symptoms. This emphasizes the need to discover alternative molecules for use in prevention. Using Molecular Docking, this review aimed to evaluate the anti-Alzheimer’s and anti-Parkinson’s activity of linalool and citronellal, as well as their derivatives. Before performing Molecular Docking simulations, the compounds’ pharmacokinetic characteristics were evaluated. For Molecular Docking, 7 chemical compounds derived from citronellal, and 10 compounds derived from linalool, and molecular targets involved in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's pathophysiology were selected. According to the Lipinski rules, the compounds under study presented good oral absorption and bioavailability. For toxicity, some tissue irritability was observed. For Parkinson-related targets, the citronellal and linalool derived compounds revealed excellent energetic affinity for α-Synuclein, Adenosine Receptors, Monoamine Oxidase (MAO), and Dopamine D1 receptor proteins. For Alzheimer disease targets, only linalool and its derivatives presented promise against BACE enzyme activity. The compounds studied presented high probability of modulatory activity against the disease targets under study, and are potential candidates for future drugs. Methodology: Before performing Molecular Docking simulations, the compounds’ pharmacokinetic characteristics were evaluated. Abstract

A Insuficiência Cardíaca (IC) é uma das principais causas de internação hospitalar no mundo e tem um elevado grau de morbidade e mortalidade, sendo um grave problema de saúde pública. Os lncRNAs (RNAs longo não codificantes), têm funções regulatórias transcricionais e/ou pós transcricionais bem complexas e que ainda não são totalmente claras, mas que podem exercer influência sobre as doenças cardiovasculares, dentre elas a IC. Assim o estudo teve como objetivo identificar na literatura o papel dos lncRNAs na patogênese da IC por meio de uma revisão integrativa com busca sistemática. Foram considerados elegíveis para leitura e composição do estudo 33 artigos e os principais papéis dos lncRNA na IC foram relatados como possíveis marcadores biológicos para diagnóstico e prognóstico da doença devido a sua expressividade na corrente sanguínea. Além disso, os lncRNAs podem estar relacionados à capacidade funcional uma vez que o aumento ou diminuição de sua expressão promove redução da apoptose de células endoteliais, melhora a disfunção cardíaca, distúrbios de contratilidade e dos canais de cálcio em pacientes com IC. Portanto, os lncRNAs parecem estar envolvidos na patogênese e/ou fisiopatologia da IC, podendo ser utilizados como biomarcadores genéticos com sensibilidade e especificidade semelhantes ou superiores aos empregados atualmente no diagnóstico e prognóstico da IC.

SummaryHere we report a quantitative analysis of human metaphase II (MII) oocytes from a 22-year-old oocyte donor, retrieved after ovarian-controlled hyperstimulation. Five surplus donor oocytes were processed for transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and a stereological analysis was used to quantify the distribution of organelles, using the point-counting technique with an adequate stereological grid. Comparisons between means of the relative volumes (Vv) occupied by organelles in the three oocyte regions, cortex (C), subcortex (SC) and inner cytoplasm (IC), followed the Kruskal–Wallis test and Mann–Whitney U-test with Bonferroni correction. Life cell imaging and TEM analysis confirmed donor oocyte nuclear maturity. Results showed that the most abundant organelles were smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) elements (26.8%) and mitochondria (5.49%). Significant differences between oocyte regions were found for lysosomes (P = 0.003), cortical vesicles (P = 0.002) and large SER vesicles (P = 0.009). These results were quantitatively compared with previous results using prophase I (GV) and metaphase I (MI) immature oocytes. In donor MII oocytes there was a normal presence of cortical vesicles, SER tubules, SER small, medium and large vesicles, lysosomes and mitochondria. However, donor MII oocytes displayed signs of cytoplasmic immaturity, namely the presence of dictyosomes, present in GV oocytes and rare in MI oocytes, of SER very large vesicles, characteristic of GV oocytes, and the rarity of SER tubular aggregates. Results therefore indicate that the criterion of nuclear maturity used for donor oocyte selection does not always correspond to cytoplasmic maturity, which can partially explain implantation failures with the use of donor oocytes.

Abstract

Este artigo apresenta um balanço da execução do Fundo de Manutenção e Desenvolvimento da Educação Básica e de Valorização dos Profissionais da Educação (Fundeb) no período de 2009 a 2020, no estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, nas redes estadual e municipais de ensino. Trabalhou-se com dados do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), do Sistema de Informações sobre Orçamentos Públicos em Educação (SIOPE), hospedado no sítio do Fundo Nacional de Desenvolvimento da Educação (FNDE), do Instituto de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira (Inep), do Laboratório de Políticas Educacionais da Universidade Federal do Paraná, documentos coletados nas esferas estadual e municipal, e documentos produzidos pelo movimento sindical docente e pela imprensa. As dimensões aqui evidenciadas para a análise consideraram as matrículas das redes de ensino, o orçamento público disponível, a remuneração docente e os Conselhos de Acompanhamento e Controle Social. Constatou-se que o Estado acelerou o processo de municipalização, transferindo matrículas para os municípios, e que houve redistribuição de recursos do fundo entre as redes de ensino. Em relação à remuneração docente, o Estado pagou o Piso Salarial Profissional Nacional no início da carreira, mas o Piso não tem a mesma incidência de valorização ao longo da carreira do professor. Muitos municípios não pagaram o Piso, mas garantiram a jornada de trabalho de 1/3 extraclasse. Apesar de os Conselhos de Acompanhamento e Controle Social terem respondido às normativas da União em sua composição, ainda têm sido bastante heterogêneos em cada ente federativo.

O estudo tem como objetivo analisar a constituição da História da Educação como campo de pesquisa. Tal adensamento decorreu em razão da proliferação dos Programas de Pós-Graduação em Educação a partir dos anos de 1970, de Grupos de Estudos vinculados à essa área, bem como eventos científicos, que vêm se firmando como veículos de divulgação dos debates e discussões travados, de forma direta ou indireta, entre os membros da comunidade interpretativa da História da Educação Brasileira. A investigação é de abordagem qualitativa e utilizou como fontes a pesquisa bibliográfica e histórica. Os resultados destacam o reconhecimento e a consolidação desse campo de estudo.

Abstract

Since the Italian Renaissance, and with the other tourism segments, culture continues to be one main motivations for travel. Gastronomic tourism, as a facet of cultural tourism that brings authenticity and experience, is a niche that has emerged as a motivation in the choice of destination by the new tourist profiles. Given that João Pessoa is a tourist city, the aim of this work was to identify whether gastronomic tourism plays an important role in attracting tourists to the city. Bibliographic and documentary research was carried out, using a quantitative approach for the data analysis. As a data collection instrument, a survey was used, interviewing sixty-six tourists in person, in September 2019. The results show that the highest percentage of tourists interviewed is 60 years of age or older, and is motivated by leisure travel. As regards the interest related to experience/gastronomic tourism, it was found that this is not a motivation for visiting the destination João Pessoa; however, there is a desire to try the local gastronomy. In this context, there is a need for managers of enterprises, and those responsible for publicizing João Pessoa, to focus on associating the gastronomic potential as a strategy for attracting potential tourists to the destination.

35. Biological sealing aspects surrounding anterior crowns on dental implants: clinical and photographic cases report

Abstract

The biological sealing (BS) around implants is a dominant factor to determine the long-term success of peri-implant health. There are several features of the BS around implants in common with the soft tissue attached to teeth, such as the presence of crevicular fluid, acquired pellicle, epithelium; otherwise, the quality of the BS around implants is weaker compared with the junctional epithelium of natural teeth. Then, this article aimed to describe three cases report showing the presence of a BS (cuticle-crevice fluid-acquired pellicle) around the fixed crowns on dental implants in the anterior zone, through photographic analysis. It was used a Nikon 8100 camera with a 105 mm macro lens and a Macro Ring circular flash. A photographic profile examination was made always showing the clinical case and, specifically, the focal point in the crown-gingival tissue (prosthesis boundary and peri-implant tissue), highlighting the anatomical gingiva on the ceramic prosthetic crown at an angle between 140 to 160 degrees. Although cases 1 and 2 had 1-year follow-up and case 3 around 4 years, the common findings for all treatments done were: (i) oral rehabilitation with crowns on dental implants; (ii) patients satisfied with the esthetic and functional result; (iii) stability of the soft tissue around the crowns; (iv) all the patients had a good oral hygiene; (v) presence of a thin membrane associated with the acquire pellicle, similar to an annular cuticle, which we named cuticle-acquired pellicle complex or tertiary cuticle or prosthetic-implant cuticle. This complex (cuticle-crevicular fluid-acquired pellicle) is suggested to be the responsible by the BS on dental implants. Moreover, the cuticle (epithelial part in the peri-implant sulcus), although similar to teeth, may be considered a tertiary pellicle due to be found on ceramic crowns on dental implants, differently of the primary and secondary pellicle. Whitin the limitation of these three cases reports, the BS was reported and can be introduced the new concept of the “cuticle-crevicular fluid-acquired pellicle complex” or “prosthetic-implant cuticle”. Abstract

The incidence of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries is on the rise due to increased physical and sports activities. Thus, ACL reconstruction is a common surgical procedure to treat ACL ruptures, however, it has a failure rate of 0.7–21% and only 63% of the patients are able to recover to their pre-injury sport level. Orthobiologics, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP), growth factors, and stem cells, are being explored as alternative treatment methods to maximize the results and reduce surgical morbidity and healing time. PRP is derived from a blood sample with high platelet concentration and containing growth factors and interleukins. Studies have shown that PRP can improve the maturation of ACL reconstruction but more research is required to support its use in ACL surgery. On one hand, growth factors play a crucial role in ligament healing and PRP, which contains high levels of growth factors, has been shown to stimulate angiogenesis and encourage cell proliferation. On the other hand, stem cells have the ability to differentiate into other cell types and limit the inflammatory microenvironment during acute ligament injury. Ligament-derived stem cells show better potential for lineage-specific tendon/ligament differentiation when used with differentiation inducers. The use of stem cells in ACL reconstruction is still in the early stages of investigation. Therefore, cell therapy agents have shown promising results in preclinical models, but more research is required to determine the most effective biological agents for treatment.

Abstract

Introdução: Após a identificação inicial em dezembro de 2019 na cidade de Wuhan, província de Hubei localizada na China Central, o Vírus intitulado como SARS-CoV-2 desencadeou a COVID-19, a qual rapidamente se espalhou pelo mundo. Objetivo: Identificar a incidência de depressão após o período pandêmico. Método: Revisão bibliográfica da literatura realizada em janeiro de 2023 nas bases de dados BVS, MEDLINE, LILACS e BDENF através dos seguintes DeCS: “COVID-19”, “Saúde Mental”, “Qualidade de vida” combinados entre si pelo operador booleano AND. Foram encontrados 55 estudos e após aplicar os critérios de inclusão e exclusão, foram selecionados 8 estudos para compor a revisão. Utilizou-se como pergunta norteadora: “Houve um aumento na incidência da depressão após o período pandêmico?” Resultados: O advento da pandemia da COVID-19 ocasionou um impacto significativo no que tange a saúde mental da população. As pesquisas demonstram que a saúde mental foi impactada pelos distúrbios no sono, econômicos e por meio do desenvolvimento de patologias como a depressão. O grupo mais atingido por essas alterações significativas no estilo de vida comum foram os jovens. Nota-se comumente que essa piora na saúde mental esteve relacionada com os desafios da adesão às recomendações de saúde comportamentais. Conclusão: Compreende-se a partir dos fatores mencionados que os sintomas depressivos e os hábitos comportamentais estão relacionados, os quais foram desencadeados pelas medidas e restrições adotadas durante a pandemia da COVID-19. Observou-se ao longo desse estudo que o comportamento sexual e a autopercepção dos indivíduos também sofreram alterações.

38. Detecção molecular de Sarcocystis spp. no músculo peitoral de aves de cativeiro da região sul do Brasil

Estudos sobre doenças de aves silvestres são essenciais no contexto da saúde pública, pois esses animais atuam como sentinelas, permitindo obter informações sobre uma determinada área geográfica. Além disso, as aves são fontes de proteína alimentar para os animais e, portanto, desempenham um papel importante no ciclo de vida do Sarcocystis. Este estudo teve como objetivo identificar Sarcocystis spp. nos músculos do peito de aves de cativeiro naturalmente infectadas. Os músculos do peito de 89 aves foram coletados, e o DNA amplificado pela PCR do gene RNA ribossômico 18S para detecção de Sarcocystis spp. Os produtos da PCR foram sequenciados e 5,61% (5/89) amostras apresentaram 100% de similaridade com o Sarcocystis spp. (um Cyanoliseus patagonus, um Psittacula krameri, dois Pyrrhura frontalis e um Ramphastos dicolorus). O grande número de espécies naturalmente infectadas analisadas por métodos moleculares permitiu a detecção de Sarcocystis spp. em diferentes espécies de aves, corroborando a epidemiologia de Sarcocystis spp. Até onde sabemos, este é o primeiro relato especificando a presença de Sarcocystis spp. no músculo do peito de espécies de aves.

39. Febre Maculosa Brasileira no Distrito Federal: relato de infecção sintomática após uso de tratamento precoce

Introdução: A Febre Maculosa Brasileira (FMB) é uma infecção de notificação compulsória no Brasil. A infecção pela bactéria do gênero Rickettsia é transmitida através da picada de carrapatos infectados (no Brasil, principalmente por Amblyomma cajennense). Após picada desses ectoparasitas em áreas endêmicas, é recomendado o uso do tratamento precoce com doxicilina. Objetivo: Relatar o caso de uma paciente com infecção sintomática pela bactéria do gênero Rickettsia, com clínica e epidemiologia sugestivas da doença. Foi prontamente instituída medicação apropriada, comprovada a doença pela sorologia positiva tendo bom prognostico. Conclusão: a FMB é uma infecção com notificação rara no Distrito Federal, com apenas três casos previamente descritos na base do Ministério da Saúde. O uso precoce do tratamento evita formas graves da doença com a possibilidade de evolução para o óbito em até cerca de 80% das vezes.

Abstract

Cowpeas are of high socioeconomic importance in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil, whereby the search for alternatives that offer increased productivity with financial returns has become an important challenge. Thus, the objective of this study was to estimate and evaluate the economic indicators of cowpea production in 2015 and 2016 when applying drip irrigation to different depths. Irrigation treatments were based on crop evapotranspiration (ETc). The experiment was laid in a randomized complete blocks design with four treatments (0, 25, 50, and 100% ETc) and six replications. For economic analysis, the results were extrapolated to an area of one hectare. Productivity in 2015 was lower than that in 2016; however, in all treatments, it was always higher when plants were grown under adequate water supply. In both years, the total operating costs were higher under irrigation than under rainfed conditions. The 100% ETc treatment resulted in a greater number of cowpea bags (60 kg) produced and a higher gross revenue than the rainfed treatment by 17 bags ha-1, equivalent to 1,020 kg ha-1 (gross revenue US$ 711.48) and 16 bags ha-1, equivalent to 960 kg ha-1 (gross revenue US$ 867.12), in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Water deficit limited cowpea yield in both years but made cultivation economically unfeasible only in 2015. RESUMO O feijão-caupi apresenta grande importância socioeconômica nas regiões Norte e Nordeste do Brasil, sendo que a busca por alternativas que ofereçam aumento de produtividade com retorno financeiro tem se tornado um importante desafio. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar e avaliar os indicadores econômicos da produção de feijão-caupi nos anos de 2015 e 2016 quando da aplicação de irrigação por gotejamento em diferentes lâminas. Os tratamentos de irrigação foram baseados na evapotranspiração da cultura (ETc). O experimento foi instalado em blocos ao acaso com quatro tratamentos (0, 25, 50 e 100% da ETc) e seis repetições. Para análise econômica, os resultados foram extrapolados para uma área de um hectare. A produtividade em 2015 foi inferior à de 2016; porém, em todos os tratamentos, a produtividade foi sempre maior quando as plantas foram cultivadas sob irrigação adequada. Em ambos os anos, os custos operacionais totais foram maiores sob irrigação do que sob condições de sequeiro. O tratamento 100% ETc resultou em maior número de sacas de feijão-caupi (60 kg) produzidas e receita bruta superior ao tratamento de sequeiro em 17 sacas ha-1, equivalente a 1.020 kg ha-1 (receita bruta US$ 711,48) e 16 sacas ha-1, equivalente a 960 kg ha-1 (receita bruta US$ 867,12), em 2015 e 2016, respectivamente. A deficiência hídrica limitou a produtividade do feijão-caupi nos dois anos, mas inviabilizou economicamente o cultivo apenas em 2015.

International audience; General interest in solvent-free catalytic processes is driven by the development of environmentally and economically acceptable procedures. Such processes require the use of highly active and stable catalysts. This study reports on the synthesis, characterization, and kinetic evaluation of two highly active Pd catalysts supported on different carbons support, i.e., multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNT) and few-layer graphene (FLG). These catalysts, with similar Pd loading (∼2 wt%) and containing both Pd single atoms (PdSA) and nanoparticles (PdNP), were systematically tested for solvent-free total hydrogenation of squalene (SQE) to obtain high-purity squalane (SQA). Thanks to the unique cooperative catalysis between PdSA and PdNP involving H-spillover, the activities of both catalysts were high compared to catalysts described in the literature. Solvent-free total hydrogenation of SQE could be performed under mild conditions (120 °C, 20 bar H2, 4 h) using ultralow Pd loading (60 ppm). However, since this reduction reaction is highly exothermic (ΔHR= − 765 kJ.mol−1), heat management during the reactor operation with these highly active catalysts is crucial to avoid deactivation and thermal runaway. Under these conditions, Pd/FLG was highly active but deactivated, unlike Pd/CNT, which still has high activity, but does not deactivate. Characterizations (ICP, XPS, Raman, TPD-MS, HAADF-STEM) of the Pd/FLG catalyst before and after reaction, supported by calculations based on density functional theory, allowed us to propose a new mechanism of catalyst deactivation involving the chemical reduction of specific surface oxygen groups of the carbon support induced by H-spillover.

45. Pathologic response and residual tumor cellularity after neo-adjuvant chemotherapy predict prognosis in breast cancer patients

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Residual tumor cellularity (RTC) and pathologic complete response (pCR) after neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) are prognostic factors associated with improved outcomes in breast cancer (BC). However, the majority of patients achieve partial pathologic response (pPR) and no clear correlation between RTC patterns and outcomes was described. Our aims were to define predictive factors for pCR and compare different outcomes of patients with pCR or pPR and with different RTC patterns. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Baseline and post-NAC demographics, clinicopathological characteristics, post-operative data, survival and recurrence status were recorded from our institutional database. A multivariable analysis was performed using a logistic regression model to identify independent predictors of pCR. Disease-free survival (DFS), distant disease-free survival (DDFS), and overall survival (OS) analyses were performed using the Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS: Overall, of the 495 patients analyzed, 148 (29.9%) achieved pCR, 347 (70.1%) had pPR, and the median RTC was 40%. Multivariable analysis identified 3 independent factors predictive of pCR: tumor stage before NAC (cT1-2 84.5% versus cT3-4 15.5%), BC sub-type (HER2-positive 54.7% versus triple-negative 29.8% versus luminal-like 15.5%), and vascular invasion (absence 98.0% versus presence 2.0%). Abstract

Resumo O objetivo deste artigo é avaliar a prevalência e fatores associados aos Transtornos Mentais Comuns (TMC) em quilombolas residentes em comunidades rurais localizadas no norte de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Trata-se de estudo transversal realizado em 2019 a partir de entrevistas estruturadas e aplicação do Self Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20). Foi conduzida regressão logística binária. A prevalência de TMC foi de 38,7%. Houve maior chance de TMC entre quilombolas do sexo feminino (OR: 2,69; IC95% 2,00-3,62), com 1 a 8 anos de estudo (OR: 1,70; IC95% 1,15-2,51), renda familiar entre 1 a 1,5 salário mínimo (OR: 2,51; IC95% 1,60-3,94); que sofreram discriminação em serviços de saúde (OR: 2,44; IC95% 1,44-4,13); com autorrelato de doença pulmonar (OR: 2,10; IC95% 1,25-3,54), doença cardíaca (OR: 1,58; IC95% 1,01-2,50) e insuficiência renal crônica (OR: 1,97; IC95% 1,08-3,94), e com autopercepção de saúde negativa (OR: 3,07; IC95% 2,31-4,07). A alta prevalência de TMC observada neste estudo demonstra a necessidade de políticas de atenção à saúde mental voltadas para as populações vulnerabilizadas, como as comunidades quilombolas, a fim de mitigar o sofrimento mental e favorecer uma atenção profissional contextualizada com as singularidades das condições de vida e saúde desse grupo populacional.
