In a previous paper we constructed all polynomial tau-functions of the 1-component KP hierarchy, namely, we showed that any such tau-function is obtained from a Schur polynomial s_λ(t) by certain shifts of arguments. In the present paper we give a simpler proof of this result, using the (1-component) boson–fermion correspondence. Moreover, we show that this approach can be applied to the s-component KP hierarchy, using the s-component boson–fermion correspondence, finding thereby all its polynomial tau-functions. We also find all polynomial tau-functions for the reduction of the s-component KP hierarchy, associated to any partition consisting of s positive parts.

Formation of gas hydrates in natural gas saturated with water threatens the integrity of subsea pipelines, therefore effort must be put into inhibiting these processes. A commonly used inhibition method is gas dehydration with triethylene glycol (TEG), which is the molecule of interest in this work. In our previous study, new multicomponent vapor-liquid-equilibria (VLE) data for TEG/water/natural gas systems were published, along with the Cubic-Plus-Association (CPA) equation of state (EoS) thermodynamic modelling. Some of the binary interaction parameters (BIP) used in this previous work, however, were only available in the literature for the 4C association scheme for TEG. In this context, new BIPs for TEG-Ethane and TEG-Propane using the different association schemes (4F, 5F, 6F and 5C) for TEG were optimized in this work. The older binary interaction parameter values for the 4C scheme were also improved. The confidence intervals for the fitted parameters were derived from statistical bootstrapping uncertainty analysis. Results revealed a low degree of uncertainty (±0.70%) for the TEG-Ethane parameter, while the linear correlation between the two terms in the BIP of TEG-Propane generated higher uncertainties (±61%). The newly fitted parameters were, then, used to model the same multicomponent VLE data previously mentioned. Minor improvements for the classical 4C scheme further confirmed this association scheme as the best choice for TEG in the CPA framework.

PURPOSE To investigate MRI myelin water imaging (MWI) by multicomponent T2 relaxometry as a quantitative imaging biomarker for brain radiation-induced changes and to compare it with DTI. METHODS Sixteen patients underwent fractionated proton therapy (PT) receiving dose to the healthy tissue because of direct or indirect (base skull tumors) irradiation. MWI was performed by a multi-echo sequence with 32 equally spaced echoes (10-320 ms). Decay data were processed to identify 3 T2 compartments: myelin water (Mw) below 40 ms, intra-extracellular water (IEw) between 40 and 250 ms, and free water (CSFw) above 250 ms. Both MWI and DTI scans were acquired pre (pre)-treatment and immediately at the end (end) of PT. After image registration, voxel-wise difference maps, obtained by subtracting MWI and DTI pre from those acquired at the end of PT, were compared with the corresponding biological equivalent dose (BED). RESULTS Mw difference showed a positive correlation and IEw difference showed a negative correlation with BED considering end-pre changes (P < .01). The changes in CSFw were not significantly correlated with the delivered BED. The changes in DTI data, considering end-pre acquisitions, showed a positive correlation between fractional anisotropy and the delivered BED. CONCLUSION MWI might detect early white matter radiation-induced alterations, providing additional information to DTI, which might improve the understanding of the pathogenesis of the radiation damage.

Childhood obesity constitutes a major risk factor for future adverse health conditions. Multicomponent parent–child interventions are considered effective in controlling weight. Τhe ENDORSE platform utilizes m-health technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and serious games (SG) toward the creation of an innovative software ecosystem connecting healthcare professionals, children, and their parents in order to deliver coordinated services to combat childhood obesity. It consists of activity trackers, a mobile SG for children, and mobile apps for parents and healthcare professionals. The heterogeneous dataset gathered through the interaction of the end-users with the platform composes the unique user profile. Part of it feeds an AI-based model that enables personalized messages. A feasibility pilot trial was conducted involving 50 overweight and obese children (mean age 10.5 years, 52% girls, 58% pubertal, median baseline BMI z-score 2.85) in a 3-month intervention. Adherence was measured by means of frequency of usage based on the data records. Overall, a clinically and statistically significant BMI z-score reduction was achieved (mean BMI z-score reduction −0.21 ± 0.26, p-value < 0.001). A statistically significant correlation was revealed between the level of activity tracker usage and the improvement of BMI z-score (−0.355, p = 0.017), highlighting the potential of the ENDORSE platform.

Triethylene glycol (TEG) is commonly used for natural gas dehydration, and with subsea processing facilities on the rise, an increasing interest is being shown in complex phase equilibria involving petroleum fluids and polar compounds. In this study, examples of such phase equilibria have been studied. New measurements for multicomponent vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) of TEG/Water/Natural Gas systems have been performed at pressures ranging from 6.0 MPa to 12.5 MPa and temperatures in the range 15 °C to 40 °C. Two types of natural gas, a Synthetic Gas (XCH4 =0.62) and a Real Gas (XCH4 = 0.92), were mixed with an aqueous TEG solution, with TEG weight percentages ranging from 95 wt.% to 99 wt.%. Glycol in gas (y1), water in gas (y2), and gas solubility in liquid (xNG) were measured with relative experimental uncertainties below 32%. Since the systems are highly associating, the Cubic-Plus-Association (CPA) equation of state (EoS) was selected to model their phase behavior . Different association schemes (4C, 4F, 5F, 6F and 5C) were tested for TEG, and the classical 4C scheme is shown to perform best. The CPA EoS performed in general terms well, considering the number of components in the systems, the associated complexities, and high measurement uncertainty for such low concentrations (2, CO2, CH4 and ethane were modelled in the liquid phase at various conditions.

A new and metal-free approach to the synthesis of substituted 6H-benzo[c]chromenes has been developed. This three-step synthetic sequence starts from variously substituted salicylaldehydes and α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds to form the chromene core. The de novo ring-forming key step is based on a highly regioselective intermolecular Diels–Alder cycloaddition between 3-vinyl-2H-chromenes and methyl propiolate, followed by oxidative aromatization of the cyclohexadiene cycloadduct intermediate to obtain the final products in good yields (up to 94% over two steps). A modular and divergent design was followed, including a multicomponent reaction, to maximize the scaffold diversity obtained from our approach. The mechanism, investigated by DFT calculations, was confirmed to be concerted through a slightly asynchronous transition state. Energetic analysis of the transition states which have been found confirmed the experimental results in terms of regioselectivity and reactivity tendencies.

Multicomponent positive psychology interventions are increasing in the general population but the study of its effectiveness in adolescents is still scarce, especially in the school context. Previous meta-analyses have reported that multicomponent positive psychology interventions increase well-being and reduce distress outcomes. However, the results on these outcomes limit their samples to adult populations. The aim of the current systematic review and meta-analysis is to evaluate and compare the immediate but also long-lasting effects of school-based multicomponent positive psychology interventions aimed at increasing well-being indicators of mental health (i.e., subjective and psychological well-being) and reducing the most common psychological distress indicators (i.e., depression, anxiety, and stress) in adolescents. A total of 9 randomized and non-randomized controlled trials from the searched literature met inclusion criteria for the meta-analysis. The results showed small effects for subjective well-being (g = 0.24), psychological well-being (g = 0.25), and depression symptoms (g = 0.28). Removing low-quality studies led to a slight decrease in the effect sizes for subjective well-being and a considerable increase for psychological well-being and depression symptoms. The relevant moderation analyses had an effect on subjective well-being and depression symptoms. The present systematic review and meta-analysis found evidence for the efficacy of school-based multicomponent positive psychology interventions in improving mental health in the short and long-term. Small effects for subjective well-being, psychological well-being, and depression symptoms were identified. Effects for psychological well-being and depression symptoms remained significant over time. In light of our results, education policy-makers and practitioners are encouraged to include positive practices within the schools' curriculum as effective and easily implemented tools that help to enhance adolescents' mental health. Further research is needed in order to strengthen the findings about school-based multicomponent positive psychology interventions in adolescents.

Objectives This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of two multidisciplinary fibromyalgia programs with different intensities. Materials and methods In this retrospective real-world comparison of patient data, pre- and post-program datasets of Short Form 36 (SF36) and Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) were obtained from a total of 210 female patients in two fibromyalgia multidisciplinary day hospital programs including one intensive program with daily treatments summing up to 20 treatment days during four weeks (P20, n=70) versus a less intensive program with 12 treatment days during four weeks (P12, n=140). Results Multiple subscales of SF36 and FIQ were improved in the pre-post comparison in both groups. In the comparison between the two groups, a statistically significantly higher improvement was found in the P20 group compared to the P12 group for the FIQ subscales of stiffness (p=0.001) and the number of days during which the patient felt "good" (p=0.007). Conclusion An intensive program of daily treatments and activity seems to be more effective in reducing fibromyalgia-associated stiffness and improving the number of days during which patients feel good than a less intensive program.

In this report, 19 boron-containing depsipeptides were synthesized via microwave-assisted Passerini three-component reaction (P-3CR) in an aqueous environment. The linker-free DAHMI fluorescent tagging approach was used on selected boron-containing compounds to study the relationship between their structures and their level of cellular uptake of HEK293 cells. The biological data retrieved from the DAHMI experiments indicated that while the structures of tested compounds may be highly similar, their bio-distribution profile could be vastly distinctive. The reported optimized one-pot synthetic strategy along the linker-free in vitro testing protocol could provide an efficient platform to accelerate the development of boron-containing drugs.

Multicomponent as well as high-entropy-based nitrides have received increasing interest in the field of materials science and engineering. The structural characteristics of these compounds result in a mix of covalent, metallic, and ionic bonds that give rise to a number of attractive properties including high hardness, electrical and thermal conductivities as well as chemical stability. These properties render these materials promising candidates for various industrial applications involving harsh operating conditions. Herein, the corrosion resistances of dc magnetron sputtered nitrogen-containing TiZrTaNby thin films with Nb content ranging from 8.0 to 24.5 at% have been investigated to provide insights regarding the corrosion resistances of multicomponent systems containing more than one passive element. The corrosion resistances and anodic behavior of the films were examined by electrochemical means in 0.1 M H2SO4 and 0.1 M HCl solutions. The results demonstrate that despite the significant differences in the concentration of one of the two main passive elements in the films i.e., Nb, the corrosion resistance did not differ significantly between the films. To provide insights into this phenomenon, the surface chemical state and composition of the prepared films were probed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was shown that all samples exhibited Ta-rich surfaces after positive polarization up to 3.0 V vs. Ag/AgCl (3 M NaCl) as a result of the anodic dissolution of Zr and Ti. The thickness of the oxide layer formed upon different anodic polarization was studied using transmission electron microscopy, while complementary electrochemical impedance studies were performed. The extent of Nb dissolution from the surface of the films was, on the other hand, found to be small. These findings highlight the dominant role of Ta in the passivation of the films and demonstrate the minor effect of Nb concentration on the corrosion resistances of the films. However, it was demonstrated that the presence of Nb was still important for the corrosion resistance of the films above 1.4 V vs. Ag/AgCl (3 M NaCl), when replacing Nb with Cr, due to transpassive dissolution of Cr. A series of novel pyran-linked phthalazinone-pyrazole hybrids were designed and synthesized by a facile one-pot three-component reaction employing substituted phthalazinone, 1H-pyrazole-5-carbaldehyde, and active methylene compounds. Optimization studies led to the identification of L-proline and ethanol as efficient catalyst and solvent, respectively. This was followed by evaluation of anticancer activity against solid tumor cell lines of lung and cervical carcinoma that displayed IC50 values in the range of 9.8–41.6 µM. Molecular modeling studies were performed, and crucial interactions with the target protein were identified. The drug likeliness nature of the compounds and molecular descriptors such as molecular flexibility, complexity, and shape index were also calculated to understand the potential of the synthesized molecules to act as lead-like molecule upon further detailed biological investigations as well as 3D-QSAR studies.

Background We assessed the cost-effectiveness of a 2-year physical activity (PA) intervention combining family-based PA counselling and after-school exercise clubs in primary-school children compared to no intervention from an extended service payer’s perspective. Methods The participants included 506 children (245 girls, 261 boys) allocated to an intervention group (306 children, 60 %) and a control group (200 children, 40 %). The children and their parents in the intervention group had six PA counselling visits, and the children also had the opportunity to participate in after-school exercise clubs. The control group received verbal and written advice on health-improving PA at baseline. A change in total PA over two years was used as the outcome measure. Intervention costs included those related to the family-based PA counselling, the after-school exercise clubs, and the parents’ taking time off to travel to and participate in the counselling. The cost-effectiveness analyses were performed using the intention-to-treat principle. The costs per increased PA hour (incremental cost-effectiveness ratio, ICER) were based on net monetary benefit (NMB) regression adjusted for baseline PA and background variables. The results are presented with NMB and cost-effectiveness acceptability curves. This paper experimentally investigated the characteristics of different (filament and multicomponent) core-spun yarn type. Filament core-spun yarns comprised cotton covered drawn textured (DTY) polyester (PET) filaments with four different filament finenesses. Regarding the production of multicomponent (dual) core-spun yarns, both PET with four different filament finenesses and elastane with four levels of draft variable were fed simultaneously. Yarn samples were produced with modified ring spinning system at the same spinning conditions. As a control group, 100% cotton ring-spun yarn was also manufactured. Tensile properties, unevenness, imperfections and hairiness of yarn samples were determined. Also, fatigue characteristics of yarn samples were examined at two different loading of cycles. The results showed that filament fineness had a significant effect on all yarn properties being determined. Dynamic modulus and dynamic strain properties of yarns, filament fineness, elastane draft and number of cycle were found to be statistically significant at 0.05 level. © 2019, © 2019 The Textile Institute.

International audience; Today, injection of liquid fuels at supercritical pressures is a frequently used technique to improve the efficiency of energy systems and address environmental constraints. This paper focuses on the analysis of the coupling between the hydrodynamics and thermodynamics of multi-species supercritical jets. Various phase transition phenomena, such as droplet formation process by condensation, which have been shown experimentally to significantly affect the flow and mixing dynamics of the jet, are studied. For this purpose, a tabulated multicomponent real fluid model assuming vapor-liquid equilibrium is proposed for the simulation of turbulent n-hexane jets injected with different inflow temperatures (480 K, 560 K, 600 K) into supercritical nitrogen at 5 MPa and 293 K. Numerical results are compared with available experimental data but also with published numerical studies, showing a good agreement. In addition, comparisons between different turbulence models, including the LES Sigma, Smagorinsky and RANS K − ϵ models have been performed, showing the relevance of the LES Sigma model for these very complex two-phase flows.

Background The global prevalence of mental health disorders is at a crisis point, particularly in the wake of COVID-19, prompting calls for the development of digital interdisciplinary mental health promotion interventions (MHPIs) for nonclinical cohorts. However, the influence of gender and age on the outcomes of and adherence to MHPIs is not well understood. Objective The aim of this study was to determine the influence of gender and age on the outcomes of and adherence to a 10-week digital interdisciplinary MHPI that integrates strategies from positive psychology and lifestyle medicine and utilizes persuasive systems design (PSD) principles in a nonclinical setting. Methods This study involved 488 participants who completed the digital interdisciplinary MHPI. Participants completed a pre and postintervention questionnaire that used: (1) the “mental health” and “vitality” subscales from the Short Form 36 (SF-36) Health Survey; (2) the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21); and (3) Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWL). Adherence to the digital interdisciplinary MHPI was measured by the number of educational videos the participants viewed and the extent to which they engaged in experiential challenge activities offered as part of the program. Results On average, the participants (N=488; mean age 47.1 years, SD 14.1; 77.5% women) demonstrated statistically significant improvements in all mental health and well-being outcome measures, and a significant gender and age interaction was observed. Women tended to experience greater improvements than men in the mental health and well-being measures, and older men experienced greater improvements than younger men in the mental health and vitality subscales. Multiple analysis of variance results of the adherence measures indicated a significant difference for age but not gender. No statistically significant interaction between gender and age was observed for adherence measures. Conclusions Digital interdisciplinary MHPIs that utilize PSD principles can improve the mental health and well-being of nonclinical cohorts, regardless of gender or age. Hence, there may be a benefit in utilizing PSD principles to develop universal MHPIs such as that employed in this study, which can be used across gender and age groups. Future research should examine which PSD principles optimize universal digital interdisciplinary MHPIs. In this thesis, different cycloaddition reactions, such as the enantioselective 1,3-dipolar-cycloaddition, which takes place between in situ generated stabilized azomethine ylides, and electrophilic alkenes, and the diastereoselective multicomponent reactions Amine-Aldehyde-Dienophile (AAD) or Phosphoramidate-Aldehyde-Dienophile (PAD) are described. In Chapter 1, an asymmetric 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction involving an imino ester with tert-butyl acrylate was carried out using a silver(I) complex with double chirality, formed from a chiral phosphoramidite and chiral silver binolphosphate(I). The goal of this reaction is to synthesize key enantiomerically enriched structures to access the GSK-third generation of HCV inhibitors. In Chapter 2, the synthesis of polysubstituted cyclohex-2-enylamines using the multicomponent Amine-Aldehyde-Dienophile reaction involving benzyl or 4-methoxybenzylamine, is described. The study the diastereoselective version, employing commercially available chiral benzylic amines, or even a maleimide with the chiral information at the nitrogen atom, are also reported. In Chapter 3, the synthesis of polysubstituted cyclohex-2-enylamines derivatives using the multicomponent Phosphoramidate-Aldehyde-Dienophile (PAD), is described. Several series of N-substituted phosphoramidates reacted with α,β-unsaturated aldehydes, bearing hydrogen atoms at the γ-position, in good yields.

The synthesis of complex spiro{pyrrolidine-3,1'-pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole} skeleton employing mild conditions is presented. The order of addition of a primary amine, two equivalents of the corresponding maleimide and finally, the aldehyde is of a paramount importance to obtain these final compounds in very high yields. The mechanism is studied performing very simple tests, the Michael type addition of the amine onto the maleimide being the key step. Interestingly, the hybrid scaffold is prepared by sequential addition of two different maleimides. In addition, a more interesting architecture is prepared through a metathesis reaction between allylic residues bonded in the molecule precursor. Alkyne metathesis in multicomponent catalytic systems, although subject to changes, is still a domain of molybdenum hexacarbonyl as a source of Mo(0). Our findings show that this coordination compound is relatively inert under metathesis conditions, which results in noticeably long induction of catalytic activity, and the kinetics of this transformation can greatly benefit from switching to more labile Mo(0) complexes. Several easily obtainable ones had been tested and [Mo(CO)3(py)3] has been chosen as the one exhibiting the most desired features, i.e. nearly instant catalytic activity and relative stability in the air.

Chirality plays a fundamental role in nature, but its detection and quantification still face many limitations. To date, the enantiospecific analysis of mixtures necessarily requires prior separation of the individual components. The simultaneous enantiospecific detection of multiple chiral molecules in a mixture represents a major challenge, which would lead to a significantly better understanding of the underlying biological processes; for example, via enantiospecifically analysing metabolites in their native environment. Here, we report on the first in situ enantiospecific detection of a thirty-nine-component mixture. As a proof of concept, eighteen essential amino acids at physiological concentrations were simultaneously enantiospecifically detected using NMR spectroscopy and a chiral solvating agent. This work represents a first step towards the simultaneous multicomponent enantiospecific analysis of complex mixtures, a capability that will have substantial impact on metabolism studies, metabolic phenotyping, chemical reaction monitoring, and many other fields where complex mixtures containing chiral molecules require efficient characterisation.

We formulate the statistics of the discrete multicomponent fragmentation event using a methodology borrowed from statistical mechanics. We generate the ensemble of all feasible distributions that can be formed when a single integer multicomponent mass is broken into fixed number of fragments and calculate the combinatorial multiplicity of all distributions in the set. We define random fragmentation by the condition that the probability of distribution be proportional to its multiplicity, and obtain the partition function and the mean distribution in closed form. We then introduce a functional that biases the probability of distribution to produce in a systematic manner fragment distributions that deviate to any arbitrary degree from the random case. We corroborate the results of the theory by Monte Carlo simulation, and demonstrate examples in which components in sieve cuts of the fragment distribution undergo preferential mixing or segregation relative to the parent particle.

INTRODUCCIÓN. El número de adultos-mayores de 60 años va incrementando con el paso de los años, lo cual hace que el proceso de envejecimiento y los efectos de este vayan siendo más frecuentes en la sociedad. Actualmente existe una amplia variedad de propuestas ofertadas desde diferentes organismos a la población de adultos-mayores, cuyo objetivo es precisamente minimizar el deterioro que se produce a medida que la persona va creciendo, siendo una de estas propuestas los programas de ejercicio físico. La práctica regular de actividad física y ejercicio físico ha demostrado ser una herramienta muy valiosa que ayuda a minimizar el deterioro asociado al envejecimiento, contribuyendo de igual forma a la mejora de determinados aspectos físicos que mejoran la autonomía y calidad de vida de las personas mayores. Esta práctica también se asocia a mejoras producidas a nivel cognitivo y/o emocional, por lo que hablaríamos de un recurso bastante beneficioso para la salud integral de las personas. La puesta en marcha de programas de ejercicio físico así como la realización de actividad física diaria que contribuyan a la mejora de aspectos físicos, cognitivos y/o emocionales de las personas adultas-mayores va a permitir que estas mejoren su calidad de vida, y por tanto, minimizar el deterioro asociado a una edad más avanzada. OBJETIVO En la presente Tesis Doctoral se diseña y pone en práctica un programa de ejercicio físico multicomponente basado en la teoría de las Inteligencias Múltiples y el manual Inteligencia XXI, el cual es dirigido a la población de adultos-mayores y donde se analizan aspectos físicos, cognitivos y/o emocionales de forma previa y posterior a la intervención. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS Se han establecido tres estudios diferenciados en función de la muestra de participantes que compone cada uno de ellos. En todos los casos se trata de un diseño longitudinal en donde se evalúan diversos efectos producidos tras el desarrollo del programa de intervención. Tanto en la evaluación inicial o pre-test como en la evaluación final o post-test se han evaluado variables a través de diferentes instrumentos, siendo estas variables de composición corporal (estadiómetro y Tanita), físicas y de calidad de vida relacionada con la salud (Senior Fitness Test, dinamómetro, escala de Lawton y Brody, 12 ítem short form –SF12), cognitivas (Stroop, 7 minutos, Dígitos) y psicoemocionales (Escala de Valoración del Estado de Ánimo, test de Rosenberg, test revisado Life Orientation Test , Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale). RESULTADOS Se han producido ligeras diferencias en los resultados obtenidos de los tres estudios, donde se pueden encontrar resultados comunes tras la intervención tales como mejoras significativas en la composición corporal de los participantes, concretamente en el porcentaje graso, nivel de grasa visceral y masa muscular. De igual forma, la capacidad cardiorrespiratoria ha mejorado significativamente tras la intervención. A nivel cognitivo se ha observado de forma general que se produce un mantenimiento o una mejora significativa de variables como la velocidad de respuesta, a pesar de encontrar un deterioro general manifestado en los procesos atencionales medidos a través de la prueba Dígitos. Los aspectos psicoemocionales se han mantenido y/o mejorado tras la intervención, encontrando que variables como la autoestima mejoran de forma significativa una vez desarrollado el programa. CONCLUSIÓN El programa de ejercicio físico multicomponente diseñado y llevado a cabo con la población de adultos-mayores ha mantenido y/o mejorado de forma general las diferentes variables físicas, cognitivas y psicoemocionales de los participantes, contribuyendo así a la mejora de su calidad de vida. INTRODUCTION The number of over 60 years old population is increasing during recent years, what produces that the effects of becoming older are more common in our society. At this moment, there is a wide range of activities organised by different organisations for older adults which goal is to minimize the decline that an older person suffers daily. One of these proposals is physical exercise programmes. Doing physical exercise regularly has been proved as an useful option in order to reduce the decline which is associated with becoming older. It contributes to improve some physical aspects related to autonomy and quality of life of older people. Physical exercise is also associated with improvements on cognition and/or emotions, becoming this practice in something beneficial for people’s health. Not only does the physical exercise programmes organization improve physical, cognitive and/or emotional levels of older adults but also it makes them reach a better quality of life. These benefits reduce decline in older people. OBJECTIVEThe goal of the present research is to design a multicomponent physical exercise program based on the Multiple Intelligences Theory and the Inteligencia XXI guide. This program is aimed to older adults, where physical, cognitive and/or emotional aspects were measured previously and after the intervention. MATERIAL AND METHODS Three different studies have been stablished according to the sample of participants’ characteristics. All the studies have a longitudinal pre-post methodology for assessing possible effects produced by the intervention program. Different outcomes were measured on both previous and final assessments. The assessment protocol included corporal composition outcomes (stadiometer and Tanita), physical and health-related quality of life outcomes (Senior Fitness Test, dynamometer, Lawton & Brody scale, 12 ítem short form –SF-12-), cognitive outcomes (Stroop, 7 minutes, Digits) and psychoemotional outcomes (scale for the assessment of mood state, Rosenberg test, Revised Life Orientation Test, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale). RESULTS In spite of some differences in all studies’ results, we found common and great benefits on older adults after the intervention such as improvements on fat percentage, visceral fat and muscle mass. Cardiorespiratory fitness was also improved onparticipants. Broadly, cognitive outcomes did not suffer any difference. Some of them, like response speed, improved significantly after the intervention. On the other hand, a decline was found on attentional process, measured through Digits Test. Psychoemotional outcomes have kept their global scores or even improved them such as self-steem, which got significant better scores once the program was done. CONCLUSION The multicomponent physical exercise program that was designed and developed by older adults shows, broadly, a maintenance and/or an improvement on different physical, cognitive and psychoemotional outcomes. These benefits contributed to the fact of them achieving a greater quality of life.

The Cantor alloy CrFeCoMnNi is generally fcc structured, but moderate changes in the composition can have a large influence on the phase formation. The aim of this study was to understand the changes brought on in lownitrogen-containing (CrFeCo)1-yNy thin films with y = 0.19 on the addition of copper, an interesting metal in terms of atomic size and nitride formation enthalpy. (CrFeCoCux)1-yNy films were grown by reactive magnetron sputtering. The amount of copper in the films was increased from x = 0 to x = 0.15 to study competitive phase formation. Without Cu, two-phase fcc + bcc films were obtained. The addition of Cu was found to stabilize the bcc structure despite the fact that Cu as a pure metal is fcc. Nanoindentation tests showed slight increase in hardness with initial Cu addition from 11 GPa to 13.7 +/- 0.2 GPa. The occurrence of pile up as opposed to cracking is an indication of the films ductility. In this article, we demonstrate the fabrication of tailored multicomponent cryoaerogels from colloidal nanoparticles via the cryogelation method. With this method, it is possible to control the amount of components very precisely. Furthermore, the microscopic distribution of the different nanoparticle components in the resulting monolithic structure is shown to be adjustable by simply mixing calculated amounts of colloidal nanoparticle solutions with a suitable surface charge. We focus on titania cryoaerogels due to their potential for optical applications and investigate the properties of synthesized titania-gold cryoaerogels in dependency of the composition. In addition, titania-platinum cryoaerogels were tested for photocatalytic applications such as hydrogen evolution and showed a significant increase in performance and stability compared to their respective colloidal solutions. While showing comparable results for hydrogen evolution with aerogels as reported in literature, the fabrication is much faster and less complex and therefore might enable future industrial application.

The cellular uptake of self‐assembled biological and synthetic matter results from their multicomponent properties. However, the interplay of the building block composition of self‐assembled materials and uptake mechanisms urgently requires addressing. It is shown here that supramolecular polymers that self‐assemble in aqueous media, are a modular and controllable platform to modulate cellular delivery by the introduction of small ligands or cationic moieties, with concomitantly different cellular uptake kinetics and valence dependence. A library of supramolecular copolymers revealed stringent mutually exclusive uptake behavior in which either of the uptake pathways dominated, with sharp compositional transition. Supramolecular biomaterial engineering thus provides for adaptive platforms with great potential for efficient tuning of multivalent and multicomponent systems interfacing with biological matter.

Enantiopure exo-4-nitro-3,5-diphenylproline reacts with aldehydes and electrophilic alkenes, in good yields, through a multicomponent 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition where the intermediate azomethine ylide is generated by the decarboxylative route. The reactions with maleimides afford diastereoselectively nitropyrrolizidines. Dimethyl fumarate and 1,2-bis(phenylsulfonyl)ethylene also give variable mixtures of diastereoisomeric nitropyrrolizidines. The replacement of aldehydes by phenyl-3-buten-2- one also affords satisfactory results with high diastereoselection although in lower yields. The stereochemical outcome is studied and defined according to the absolute configuration of the resulting cycloadducts. In this study, a hybrid modeling framework was developed for predicting size distribution and content uniformity of granules in a bi-component wet granulation system with components of differing hydrophobicities. Two bi-component formulations, (1) ibuprofen-USP and micro-crystalline cellulose and (2) micronized acetaminophen and micro-crystalline cellulose, were used in this study. First, a random forest method was used for predicting the probability of nucleation mechanism (immersion and solid spread), depending upon the formulation hydrophobicity. The predicted nucleation mechanism probability is used to determine the aggregation rate as well as the initial particle distribution in the population balance model. The aggregation process was modeled as Type-I: Sticking aggregation and Type-II: Deformation driven aggregation. In Type-I, the capillary force dominant aggregation mechanism is represented by the particles sticking together without deformation. In the case of Type-II, the particle deformation causes an increase in the contact area, representing a viscous force dominant aggregation mechanism. The choice between Type-I and II aggregation is determined based on the difference in nucleation mechanism that is predicted using the random forest method. The model was optimized and validated using the granule content uniformity data and size distribution data obtained from the experimental studies. The proposed framework predicted content non-uniform behavior for formulations that favored immersion nucleation and uniform behavior for formulations that favored solid-spreading nucleation.

A multicomponent 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between heterocyclic aldehydes, amino esters and dipolarophiles is efficiently promoted by silver acetate as catalyst, and depending on the nature of the heterocycle and its reactivity the reaction requires 70 °C or rt to complete. Selected pharmacophores anchored to a formyl group are chromone, 5-methoxyindole, pyridoxal surrogates and a very attractive uracyl derivative. The preference of each tested amino esters towards different dipolarophiles is discussed. At the end, a selective reduction of the ester group allows to obtain a very interesting dideoxiazanucleoside derivative. This review summarizes recent developments in multicomponent reactions of diazo compounds. The role of diazo reagent and the type of interaction between components was analyzed to structure the discussion. In contrast to previous reviews on related topics mostly focused on metal catalyzed transformations, a substantial amount of organocatalytic or catalyst-free methodologies is covered in this work.

Objective: it is proposed to identify and review potential strategies that include a multifaceted approach when dealing with obesity in school children. According to the most recent evidence, the most effective interventions to combat childhood obesity are those that involve physical activity, nutrition education, and supportive environments. Thus, in this review we focus on looking for such interventions, which also include monitoring in the medium and long term, monitoring and evaluation, which are critical to maintain effective action.Material and methods: a review of scientific articles published in specialized databases such as Pubmed (Medline), the Cochrane Library, The Cochrane Controlled Trials Register (CCTR), ScienceDirect, Scielo, The Cochrane Library Plus and the website of the World Health Organization (http://www.who.int).Results: of 199 potential articles, only 8 were included in this review. The results showed that multi-component and long-term interventions have benefits on BMI, physical activity and food choices. However, few studies showed significant changes in general dietary habits and the prevalence of obesity. Also, it was observed that the multicomponent interventions that were carried out both in developing countries in Latin America, and in developed countries had similar results. Conclusion: this review demonstrates that changes can occur on anthropometric measures, physical activityand food choices when multicomponent interventions are carried out in environments at the level of primary academic education, regardless of geographical location, but maintaining similar methodology and materials. Objetivos: se propone identificar y revisar aquellas estrategias potenciales que incluyan un enfoque multifacético a la hora de hacer frente a la obesidad en niños escolarizados. De acuerdo a la evidencia más reciente, las intervenciones más efectivas para combatir la obesidad infantil son aquellas que involucranactividad física, educación nutricional y entornos de apoyo. Method: Moreover, the treatment of compounds 10a, b with ethylbromoacetate, 2-bromo-1-(4-chlorophenyl) ethanone, conc. H2SO4 and NaOH yielded the corresponding, 1,3-thiazolidinone (11a,b), 1,3-thiazole (12), 1,3,4-thiadiazole (13a,b) and 1,2,4-triazole (14) derivatives, respectively, by either conventional or microwave mediated conditions. the one-pot three component synthesis of fluoroquinolone derivatives (15a,b and 16) was performed by condensation between compounds 8 and 14 with norfloxacine and ciprofloxacine under conventional or microwave irradiation conditions. Results: the effects of different catalysts, solvents and microwave powers on conventional and microwave-prompted reactions was also examined. the synthesized compounds were screened for their antimicrobial, enzyme inhibition and antioxidant activities. Molecular docking of some of the synthesized compounds into the active sites of lipase, alpha-glucosidase and urease was also carried out in order to predict the binding affinity and non-covalent interactions between them. High entropy alloys (HEAs) are barely 12 years old. The field has stimulated new ideas and has inspired the exploration of the vast composition space offered by multi-principal element alloys (MPEAs). Here we present a critical review of this field, with the intent of summarizing key findings, uncovering major trends and providing guidance for future efforts. Major themes in this assessment include definition of terms; thermodynamic analysis of complex, concentrated alloys (CCAs); taxonomy of current alloy families; microstructures; mechanical properties; potential applications; and future efforts. Based on detailed analyses, the following major results emerge. Although classical thermodynamic concepts are unchanged, trends in MPEAs can be different than in simpler alloys. Common thermodynamic perceptions can be misleading and new trends are described. From a strong focus on 3d transition metal alloys, there are now seven distinct CCA families. A new theme of designing alloy families by selecting elements to achieve a specific, intended purpose is starting to emerge. A comprehensive microstructural assessment is performed using three datasets: experimental data drawn from 408 different alloys and two computational datasets generated using the CALculated PHAse Diagram (CALPHAD) method. Each dataset emphasizes different elements and shows different microstructural trends. Trends in these three datasets are all predicted by a ‘structure in – structure out’ (SISO) analysis developed here that uses the weighted fractions of the constituent element crystal structures in each dataset. A total of 13 distinct multi-principal element single-phase fields are found in this microstructural assessment. Relationships between composition, microstructure and properties are established for 3d transition metal MPEAs, including the roles of Al, Cr and Cu. Critical evaluation shows that commercial austenitic stainless steels and nickel alloys with 3 or more principal elements are MPEAs, as well as some established functional materials. Mechanical properties of 3d transition metal CCAs are equivalent to commercial austenitic stainless steels and nickel alloys, while some refractory metal CCAs show potential to extend the service strength and/or temperature of nickel superalloys. Detailed analyses of microstructures and properties allow two major HEA hypotheses to be resolved. Although the ‘entropy effect’ is not supported by the present data, it has nevertheless made an enduring contribution by inspiring a clearer understanding of the importance of configurational entropy on phase stability. The ‘sluggish diffusion’ hypothesis is also not supported by available data, but it motivates re-evaluation of a classical concept of metallic diffusion. Building on recent published work, the CCA field has expanded to include materials with metallic, ionic or covalent bonding. It also includes microstructures with any number of phases and any type of phases. Finally, the MPEA field is shown to include both structural and functional materials applications. A significant number of future efforts are recommended, with an emphasis on developing high-throughput experiments and computations for structural materials. The review concludes with a brief description of major accomplishments of the field and insights gained from the first 12 years of research. The field has lost none of its potency and continues to pose new questions and offer new possibilities. The vast range of complex compositions and microstructures remains the most compelling motivation for future studies.

Objectives:Multicomponent interventions (MCIs), consisting of at least two interventions, are common in rehabilitation and other healthcare fields. When the effectiveness of the MCI versus that of its single interventions is comparable or unknown, evidence of their expected incremental cost-effectiveness can be helpful in deciding which intervention to recommend. As such evidence often is unavailable this study proposes an approach to estimate what is more cost-effective; the MCI or the single intervention(s).Methods:We reviewed the literature for potential methods. Of those identified, headroom analysis was selected as the most suitable basis for developing the approach, based on the criteria of being able to estimate the cost-effectiveness of the single interventions versus that of the MCI (a) within a limited time frame, (b) in the absence of full data, and (c) taking into account carry-over and interaction effects. We illustrated the approach with an MCI for cancer survivors.Results:The approach starts with analyzing the costs of the MCI. Given a specific willingness-to-pay-value, it is analyzed how much effectiveness the MCI would need to generate to be considered cost-effective, and if this is likely to be attained. Finally, the cost-effectiveness of the single interventions relative to the potential of the MCI for being cost-effective can be compared.Conclusions:A systematic approach using headroom analysis was developed for estimating whether an MCI is likely to be more cost effective than one (or more) of its single interventions.

In the last decade, many works compared nonhyperbolic multiparametric travel-time approximations to perform velocity analysis. In these works, some analyses were accomplished, such as accuracy analysis and objective function analysis. However, no previous works compared the optimization algorithms to perform the inversion procedure concerning the processing time and the accuracy of each algorithm. As the shifted hyperbola showed the best results among the unimodal approximations in previous works, it was selected to be used in a comparison with five local search optimization algorithms. Each algorithm was compared concerning the accuracy by the minimization of the calculated curve to the observed curve. The travel-time curves tested here are conventional (PP) and converted wave (PS) reflection events from an offshore model. With this set of tests, it is possible to define which optimization algorithm presents the most reliable result when used with the shifted hyperbola equation concerning the processing time and the accuracy.

Ag, Pt, and Rh monometallic colloids were produced via laser ablation. Separate Ag–Rh and Ag–Pt heterostructures were formed by mixing and resulted in groupings of Rh/Pt nanoparticles adsorbing to the concavities of the larger Ag nanostructures. The 400 nm Ag plasmonic absorption peak was slightly blue-shifted for Ag–Pt and red-shifted for Ag–Rh heterostructures. Catalytic activity for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol increased significantly for Ag–Pt and Ag–Rh compared to the monometallic constituents, and persisted at lower loading ratios and consecutive reduction cycles. The enhancement is attributed to the Rh and Pt nanoparticles forming antenna–reactor-type plasmonic catalysts with the Ag nanostructures.

Twelve different equiatomic five-metal carbides of group IVB, VB, and VIB refractory transition metals are synthesized via high-energy ball milling and spark plasma sintering. Implementation of a newly developed ab initio entropy descriptor aids in selection of candidate compositions for synthesis of high entropy and entropy stabilized carbides. Phase formation and composition uniformity are analyzed via XRD, EDS, S/TEM-EDS, and EXAFS. Nine of the twelve candidates form true single-phase materials with the rocksalt (B1) structure when sintered at 2473 K and can therefore be investigated as high entropy carbides (HECs). The composition (V0.2Nb0.2Ta0.2Mo0.2W0.2)C is presented as a likely candidate for further investigation as an entropy stabilized carbide. Seven of the carbides are examined for mechanical properties via nanoindentation. The HECs show significantly enhanced hardness when compared to a rule of mixtures average of the constituent binary carbides and to the highest hardness of the binary constituents. The mechanical properties are correlated to the electronic structure of the solid solutions, offering a future route to tunability of the mechanical properties of carbide ceramics via exploration of a new complex composition space.

The synthesis of a novel category of pseudo-peptides via intramolecular Ugi reaction of levulinic acid (4-oxopentanoic acid), aromatic and aliphatic amines, and amino acid-based isocyanides is reported. Levulinic acid was applied as a bifunctional substrate containing both carbonyl and acid moieties suitable for the Ugi reaction. This article provides a facile and convenient one-pot procedure for the synthesis of peptide-like heterocyclic molecules containing 2-pyrrolidone (γ-lactam), amide and ester functional groups with good to excellent yields.

In search of materials with better properties, polycrystalline materials are often found to be superior to their respective single crystalline counterparts. Reduction of grain size in polycrystalline materials can drastically alter the properties of materials. When the grain sizes reach the nanometer scale, the improved mechanical response of the materials make them attractive in many applications. Multicomponent solid-solution alloys have shown to have a higher radiation tolerance compared with pure materials. Combining these advantages, we investigate the radiation tolerance of nanocrystalline multicomponent alloys. We find that these alloys withstand a much higher irradiation dose, compared with nanocrystalline Ni, before the nanocrystallinity is lost. Some of the investigated alloys managed to keep their nanocrystallinity for twice the irradiation dose as pure Ni.

The present research focuses on the effect of feedstock suspension solid concentration on the microstructure of suspension plasma sprayed Y-TZP/Al2O3/SiC composite coatings. For this purpose, concentrated aqueous suspensions were prepared at 10, 20 and 30 vol% and characterised in terms of zeta potential, rheological behaviour and sedimentation trend. The optimised suspensions were plasma sprayed, and the thickness, porosity, amount of resolidified particles and SiC content remaining in the coatings were evaluated by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The results revealed that spray distance and suspension solid content show a strong influence on the coating microstructure due to the great impact that these two parameters have on the energy that particles and substrate receive from the plasma jet. Cauliflower-like microstructure develops in some of the coatings, particularly for longer distances and lower solids contents. These microstructural features were discussed on the basis of the theory of columnar microstructure development in SPS coatings. Porosity and amount of resolidified particles in the coatings are favoured by increasing the spray distance and decreasing the solids content, while thickness is strongly affected by solids content variation. On the other hand, Rietveld method from X-ray diffraction showed that large amount of the initial SiC was preserved in the final coatings whereas this amount remains almost constant for the three suspension feedstock tested.

Programmed self-assembly and self-organization of well-designed molecular monomers have been widely used to design stable nanostructures with desired structures and unique functions. Due to the nature of the self-assembly process, it is difficult to control the size and morphology of the self-assembled nanomaterials. Multicomponent supramolecular self-assembly can be achieved to control the self-assembly process and provides the possibility to generate a wider and more complex structure, enhance modularity and provide spatiotemporal control of self-assembly. In this review, it is believed that multicomponent self-assembly may offer a new way to build tuning morphology and functionality materials. The tuning of morphology and functionality of multicomponent co-assembly was discussed according to the purpose of their mixing in the following three aspects separately: (1) one of the components can self-assemble individually, the other added components can tune the morphology and functionality of the assemblies, (2) all of the components can self-assemble individually, the mixture can strength the assemblies or generate new functionalities, (3) none of the components can self-assemble individually, but the mixtures can self-assemble into novel properties.

The synthesis of polyfunctionalized indolizidines from pipecolinic acid alkyl ester derivatives, aldehydes and a wide range of dipolarophiles by multicomponent 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions is developed in a diastereoselective manner. The cycloadditions take place in toluene with short reaction times at 70 °C, giving good yields. The synthesis of these fused heterocycles is also studied starting from pipecolinic acid, generating the dipole through a decarboxylative route at 120 °C. The relative configuration of the resulting products as well as the mechanistic pathways are also explained. A novel electrochemical nitrite ion (NO 2 − ) biosensor was designed and fabricated by modifying a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) into three-dimensional nanoarchitectured electrode (3DNE) using a multicomponent nanocomposite (MCNC) film composed of graphene embedded titanium dioxide nanowires (TiO 2 (G) NWs), thiol-functionalized polyaniline (PANI(SH)), gold nanoparticles (Au), and immobilized cytochrome c (cyt c). The new NO 2 − biosensor was designated as cyt c/TiO 2 (G) NWs@PANI(SH)-Au MCNC/3DNE. The assembly of the 3DNE, involved sequential depositions of PANI(SH) and Au over previously synthesized TiO 2 (G) NWs by electrospinning-hydrothermal processes and immobilization of the cyt c onto the TiO 2 (G) NWs/PANI(SH)/Au MCNC film. The cyt c/TiO 2 (G) NWs@PANI(SH)-Au MCNC/3DNE exhibited direct electron transfer from cyt c to the electrode at a high rate constant (25.34 s −1 ). The fabricated cyt c/TiO 2 (G) NWs@PANI(SH)-Au MCNC/3DNE showed high selectivity to NO 2 − ions with excellent sensitivity (9.2 μA/mM), a wide linear concentration range (10 μM–720 mM), and a low detection limit (0.05 μM). Additionally, the cyt c/TiO 2 (G) NWs@PANI(SH)-Au MCNC/3DNE exhibited high stability with good reproducibility and repeatability.

WOS: 000384228000006 PubMed ID: 27055444 We investigated the effects of long- and short-term interdisciplinary treatment approaches for reducing symptoms and improving health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and physical functions of patients with fibromyalgia and compared the effects of two different interdisciplinary treatment approaches. We conducted a prospective, randomized, controlled trial involving 66 women with fibromyalgia eligible for the study at a university hospital setting. The patients were randomized into three groups (allocation ratio 1:1:1) using a computer-generated random numbers: a long-term interdisciplinary treatment group (LG, n = 22) that participated in 10 sessions (3-h once-weekly session for 10 weeks) of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) together with exercise training and other fibromyalgia related educational programs (two full days); a short-term interdisciplinary treatment group (SG, n = 22) that received two full days of educational, exercise, and CBT programs; and a control group (CG, n = 22). The patients were evaluated at baseline and 6 months after treatment using the visual analog scale (pain, fatigue, and sleep), Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire, Beck Depression Inventory, Short Form-36, tender point numbers, and pressure algometry as primary outcomes. The statistical analysis was confined to the 'per-protocol' set. No blinding was performed. The number of patients analyzed was 21 in the LG, 19 in the SG, and 19 in the CG. The intensity of pain (p < 0.001), severity of fatigue (p = 0.048), number of tender points (p = 0.002), and pressure pain threshold (p = 0.012) decreased significantly in both the LG and SG groups compared with controls. Moreover, physical functions (p = 0.017) and physical components of the HRQoL (p = 0.036) improved significantly in the intervention groups compared with the controls. However, there was no significant difference between intervention groups and the control group at the end of study in terms of quality of sleep (p = 0.055), severity of depressive symptoms (p = 0.696), and mental components of the HRQoL (p = 0.229). Finally, with the exception of the severity of fatigue and physical components of the HRQoL, there was no obvious significant difference between the efficacies of the two treatment approaches when compared with controls; the long-term treatment was found more effective in reducing pain than the short-term. Both, long- and short-term interdisciplinary treatments were effective in reducing the severity of some symptoms and disease activity in patients with fibromyalgia. The short-term program well meets the needs of women with fibromyalgia particularly in relation to pain and health status as measured using FIQ; however, a long-term program may be beneficial in reducing fatigue and improving physical function to a higher extent.

A general synthesis of highly substituted pyrrolizidines can be performed by a multicomponent 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition using proline ester hydrochlorides, aldehydes and dipolarophiles, at room temperature without catalysts or in the presence of AgOAc (5 mol %). In the case of (2S,4R)-4-hydroxyproline derivatives it is possible to obtain enantioenriched pyrrolizidines with high control of the regio- and diastereoselectivity affording the adducts 2,4-trans-2,5-trans according to an endo-approach and a S-dipole geometry of the in situ generated azomethine ylide. For proline esters a similar regioselectivity and endo-diastereoselectivity are observed when the dipole promotes an α-attack. However, when ethyl glyoxylate is used as aldehyde component the γ-attack of the S-ylide takes place preferentially giving rise the opposite regioselectivity for acrylic dipolarophiles, being crucial the role of silver acetate. In this case, the exo-adducts with a 2,3-cis-2,5-trans relative configuration are diastereoselectively obtained. In addition, computational studies have also been carried out to shed light on the origins of the diastereo- and regioselectivity observed for the described 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions. The silver-catalysed multicomponent reaction between ethyl glyoxylate, 2,2-dimethoxyacetaldehyde, or phenylglyoxal as aldehyde components with a α-amino ester hydrochloride and a dipolarophile in the presence of triethylamine is described. This domino process takes place at room temperature by in situ liberation of the α-amino ester followed by the formation of the imino ester, which is the precursor of a metalloazomethine ylide. The cycloaddition of this species and the corresponding dipolarophile affords polysubstituted proline derivatives. Ethyl glyoxylate reacts with glycinate, alaninate, phenylalaninate and phenylglycinate at room temperature in the presence of representative dipolarophiles affording endo-2,5-cis-cycloadducts in good yields and high diastereoselection. In addition, 2,2-dimethoxyacetaldehyde is evaluated with the same amino esters and dipolarophiles, under the same mild conditions, generating the corresponding endo-2,5-cis-cycloadducts with higher diastereoselections than the obtained in the same reactions using ethyl glyoxylate. In the case of phenylglyoxal the corresponding 5-benzoyl-endo-2,5-cis cycloadducts are obtained in short reaction times and similar diasteroselection. 2030 Multicomponent polymer blends afford polymeric materials with specific properties for many applications. The effect of different chemical structures on the miscibility and compatibility of polymer blends composed of multicomponent acrylic and styrenic polymers was studied in this research. The influence of each component on the thermal, mechanical, and morphological properties, as well as optical transparency, was analyzed in poly (methyl methacrylate), homopolymer (PMMAh), or copolymer (PMMAe) blends where the minority constituents formed by polystyrene (PS), styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN) or acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene terpolymer (ABS). The results showed significant changes in the properties of these mixtures due to the effect of the type of chemical structure and different elastomeric domains of the majority and minority components of polymer blends

International audience; This work deals with the simulation of spatial complex systems resolved with cellular models. We compare two component-based modeling implementations, based on DSDE and Multicomponent formalisms, using a Virtual Laboratory Environment framework (VLE) that is based on the DSDE formalism.

Background and Objectives Many evaluations of nonpharmacologic interventions for family members of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias (ADRDs) exist, but few consider effects on outcomes that are pertinent to caregivers’ roles and relationships. The current study evaluated the efficacy of the New York University Caregiver Intervention-Adult Child (NYUCI-AC) on perceptions of family conflict, role conflict (effects of family caregiving and time, family, and social life), and perceived social support for adult child caregivers of relatives with ADRD over a 3-year period. Research Design and Methods A single-blinded randomized controlled trial design was used. One-hundred and seven adult child caregivers were enrolled in the NYUCI-AC and randomly assigned to a treatment or contact control group. Assessments were scheduled to be completed every 4 months during the first year of participation and every 6 months thereafter for up to 3 years. Individual growth curve models were utilized to ascertain the effects of the NYUCI-AC on change in family conflict, role conflict, and perceptions of social support. Results Among the entire sample, role conflict significantly (p < .05) declined and satisfaction with instrumental assistance increased over the course of the study, whereas family conflict slightly increased over the initial study period and then declined slightly. The findings indicated that the NYUCI-AC did not exert statistically significant effects on changes in family conflict, role conflict, or perceptions of social support over the 3-year study period. Discussion and Implications Although the clinical content of some dementia caregiver interventions is tailored to the specific needs of each caregiver and family, the outcomes selected to judge the efficacy of these interventions might not follow similar principles. Incorporating clinical content and evaluation outcomes that are family-centered will help to advance the state of the art of dementia caregiving interventions.

International audience; We introduce a novel isocyanide-based multicomponent reaction, the Passerini four component reaction (P-4CR), by replacing the carboxylic acid component of a conventional Passerini three component reaction (P-3CR) with an alcohol and CO 2. Key to this approach is the use of a switchable solvent system, allowing the synthesis of a variety of a-carbonate-amides. The reaction was first investigated and optimized using butanol, isobutyraldehyde, tert-butyl isocyanide and CO 2. Parameters investigated included the effect of reactant equivalents, reactant concentration, solvent, catalyst, catalyst concentration and CO 2 pressure. Of the other parameters, the purity of the aldehyde and its tendency to oxidize was one of the most critical parameters for a successful P-4CR. After optimization, a total of twelve (12) P-4CR compounds were synthesized with conversions ranging between 16 and 82% and isolated yields between 18 and 43%. Their structures were confirmed via 1 H and 13 C NMR, FT-IR and high resolution mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). In addition, three (3) hydrolysis products of P-4CR (a-hydroxyl-amides) were successfully isolated with yields between 23 and 63% and fully characterized (1 H, 13 C NMR, FT-IR and ESI-MS) as well.

Se ha llevado a cabo la síntesis multicomponente de una serie de 1-aminoindolizinas y pirrolo[1,2-a]quinolonas de manera efectiva a partir de derivados de 2-piridincarbaldehído, aminas secundarias y alquinos terminales utilizando CuNPs/C como catalizador en diclorometano a 70 ºC. La metodología se ha aplicado a una variedad de aminas y alquinos, los últimos incluyendo arilacetilenos así como alquilacetilenos, con rendimientos de moderados a altos. Dicho catalizador ha demostrado ser superior a una serie de catalizadores de cobre comerciales. Finalmente, se ha propuesto un mecanismo de reacción basado en la probada participación de aminas propargílicas como intermedios de reacción. Se han sintetizado indolizidinas a través de la hidrogenación catalítica heterogénea de indolizinas usando PtO2 como catalizador en ácido acético como disolvente y a una presión de 3,7 atm. Las indolizidinas se han obtenido con una elevada diastereoselectividad, incluso en el caso de poseer cuatro estereocentros. Se ha demostrado experimentalmente que la hidrogenación de la indolizina se produce a través del intermedio pirrólico 5,6,7,8-tetrahidroindolizina. Además, estas indolizidinas se han podido mono- o di-desbencilar usando un catalizador diferente. Se ha sintetizado una nueva familia de compuestos orgánicos por reacción de las indolizinas en medio ácido. Estos productos son tintes de indolizina de color violeta-rojizos que tienen una estructura D-A-π-A bien definida. La estructura de los tintes de indolizina se ha establecido mediante análisis de rayos X en estado sólido, pero se pueden distinguir dos rotámeros en disolución. Se ha propuesto un mecanismo de reacción en el que la propia indolizina actúa como nucleófilo y electrófilo; en éste, una molécula sufre hidrólisis en medio ácido y la adición Michael de la segunda molécula de indolizina. Un estudio de las características ópticas de estos tintes ha revelado un cambio de color dependiente del tamaño de partícula, un alto poder de coloración y un carácter solvatocrómico (es decir, que el color de la disolución del compuesto depende de la polaridad del disolvente usado), también en materiales plásticos. Finalmente, se ha estudiado la reactividad de las indolizinas con nitrosocompuestos, obteniendo dos productos diferentes según el sustituyente en la posición tres de éstas. En el caso de poseer un sustituyente aromático se obtienen β-enaminonas. Se ha realizado un estudio del alcance de esta metodología cambiando los sustituyentes 1, 3 y 6 de las indolizinas y usando compuestos nitrosoaromáticos con distintos sustituyentes en orto y para, obteniendo las correspondientes β-enaminonas con rendimientos aislados de moderados a buenos. El uso de esta metodología ha demostrado ser el más apropiado para obtener ese tipo de regioisómero, comparado con las metodologías clásicas de condensación de compuestos 1,3-dicarbonilos con aminas que dan el regioisómero opuesto. Para sustituyentes alifáticos, se han obtenido pirroles tetrasustituidos con rendimientos de moderados a buenos, variando los cuatro sustituyentes en la estructura de pirrol. Se han llevado a cabo varios experimentos para elucidar el mecanismo de reacción. Se ha demostrado que proceden vía iónica, no radicalaria. La presencia de agua es beneficiosa para la obtención de β-enaminonas, en cambio, una atmósfera de oxígeno o de argón no lo son. Con todo ello, se ha propuesto un mecanismo para la obtención de éstas en el que participa una estructura de isooxazol como intermedio. En el caso de los pirroles, se ha demostrado que hay una migración de la dibencilamina en la estructura. Tras varios experimentos, enfocados en la obtención de un posible intermedio de reacción, se ha propuesto la secuencia del mecanismo para la obtención de pirroles. En primer lugar, se ha propuesto el ataque nucleófilo al nitrosocompuesto, abriendo la estructura y perdiendo dibencilamina, formando así una cetona α,β-insaturada, seguido del ataque de la dibencialamina y posterior ciclación para la obtención del pirrol.

In the work, mucor miehei lipase (MML) was covalently immobilized on the 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine (TCT)-modified magnetite nanoparticles. Then, the immobilized MML was utilized in the synthesis of functionalized 4H-Chromenes via a multicomponent reaction firstly. Under the optimized reaction conditions, immobilized MML displayed high catalytic performance (Yield: 81–96%) and excellent reusability, indicating a high potential for practical operation.
