Phytosterols (PS) have been shown to regulate cholesterol metabolism and alleviate hyperlipidemia (HLP), but the mechanism is still unclear. In this study, we investigated the mechanism by which PS regulates cholesterol metabolism in high-fat diet (HFD) mice. The results showed that PS treatment reduced the accumulation of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in the serum of HFD mice, while increasing the serum levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Compared with HFD mice, PS not only increased the antioxidant activity of the liver but also regulated the mRNA expression levels of enzymes and receptors related to cholesterol metabolism. The hypolipidemic effect of PS was abolished by antibiotic (Abx) intervention and reproduced by fecal transplantation (FMT) intervention. The results of 16S rRNA sequencing analysis showed that PS modulated the gut microbiota of mice. PS reduced the relative abundance of Lactobacillus and other bile salt hydrolase- (BSH-) producing gut microbiota in HFD mice, which are potentially related to cholesterol metabolism. These findings partially explain the mechanisms by which PS regulates cholesterol metabolism. This implies that regulation of the gut microbiota would be a potential target for the treatment of HLP.

HELQ plays a key role in DNA damage response and cell-cycle checkpoint regulation. It has been implicated in ovarian and pituitary tumors and may play a role in germ cell maintenance. This study investigated the role of HELQ in lung cancer. The expression of HELQ in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) was downregulated compared with normal human lungs. Clinical prognostic analysis of Kaplan-Meier plots revealed that patients with NSCLC with low HELQ levels had a reduced overall survival. Further, we found that HELQ depletion enhanced lung cancer cell malignancy. Furthermore, overexpression of HELQ in lung cancer cells reduced cell migration in vitro, while DNA damage repair was inhibited. Both in vitro and in vivo studies have shown that HELQ induces cell death. Mechanistically, we found that cells overexpressing HELQ showed a tendency to induce necrosis. After analyzing the database of HELQ interactors. we found that RIPK3 may interact with it and proved this conclusion by immunoprecipitation. Our findings identified the tumor suppressive role of HELQ in malignant human lung cancer and unraveled a potential therapeutic strategy for cancer treatment through HELQ activation. Moreover, HELQ may also be a predictive biomarker for the clinical predisposition, progression, and prognosis of lung cancer.

Mulisan decoction (MLS) is a classic formula of traditional Chinese medicine for treating hyperhidrosis. The mechanism remains unclear.To investigate the antiperspirant effect and underlying mechanisms of MLS.Fifty rats were divided into control, model, and three doses of MLS intervention groups (Rats treated with MLS presented a significant decrease in sweat point numbers (13.5%), increase in body weight (13.2%), and promotion in the balance of Th1/Th2 cytokine ratioMLS demonstrated a good antiperspirant effect and metabolism improvement. These findings inspire more clinical study validation on immune improvement and antiperspirant effect.

A great increase in the number of patients needs critical care to the intensive care unit (ICU) due to improvements in oncology. The aim of the study was to explore risk factors affecting survival of critically ill patients with solid cancers in ICU.The study retrospectively reviewed patients between 2001 and 2012, which were collected by Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care III (MIMIC-III) from the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA, USA.A total of 38,508 adult patients, who were admitted to ICUs and 8,308 (21.6%) were diagnosed as an underlying malignancy; 1,671 and 3,165 adult patients with sold cancer were admitted to surgical ICU (SICU) and medical ICU (MICU), respectively. Patients in SICU had a higher survival rate at the point of 28-, 90-day, and 1-, 3-year than patients in MICU (P0.001 for all). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that age ≥70, emergency admission, the presence of metastases, Oxford Acute Severity of Illness Score (OASIS) ≥30 and sepsis were independent risk factors affecting 28-day survival in SICU. In MICU, emergency admission, metastatic disease, Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) ≥3, Simplified Acute Physiology Score II (SAPS II) ≥39, Acute Physiology Score III (APS III) ≥40, Oxford Acute Severity of Illness Score (OASIS) ≥30, Elixhauser comorbidity index ≥9 and sepsis were independent risk factors for 28-day survival rate. The area under curve (AUC) of the OASIS for predicting ICU mortality was 0.824 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.805-0.842], which was obviously higher than other scores in SICU. The AUC of the SAPS II for predicting ICU mortality was 0.820 (95% CI: 0.806-0.833), which was slightly higher than other scores in MICU.Patients with cancer in SICU have longer survival time than patients with cancer in MICU. The prediction of prognosis of critically ill cancer patients can guide treatment and optimize medical resources.

Abstract. Despite corporal punishment being associated with negative developmental outcomes for children, it is commonly practiced in Malaysian courts, schools, and homes. This study examined the relationships among the Dark Tetrad personality traits (Machiavellianism, narcissism, psychopathy, sadism), anger rumination, and attitudes toward corporal punishment of children. Two hundred sixty-three participants from a university and community sample in Malaysia completed measures of attitudes toward child corporal punishment, the Short Dark Tetrad, and the Anger Rumination Scale. Participants also answered questions about whether they received corporal punishment at home and school as children. Correlation analyses showed that Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and sadism were positively associated with acceptance of corporal punishment. Further regression analyses revealed that having received corporal punishment at home – but not at school – during childhood as well as trait Machiavellianism and sadism predicted accepting attitudes toward corporal punishment. Identifying factors that influence people’s attitudes regarding corporal punishment and discipline behaviors could yield new insights into parenting education programs and policies.

In this paper, by utilizing the extended phase-matching (EPM) method, we investigate the generation of single photons with high spectral-purity in a magnesium-doped periodically-poled lithium niobate (MgO:PPLN) crystal via the spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) process. By adjusting the temperature and pump wavelength, the wavelength of single photons can be tuned from telecom to mid-infrared (MIR) wavelengths, among which the spectral-purity can be above 0.95 with high transmission filters. In experiments, we engineer a MgO:PPLN with poling period of 20.35 µm which emit the EPM photon pair centered at 1496.6 nm and 1644.0 nm and carry out the joint spectral intensity (JSI) and Glauber;s second-order self-correlation measurements to characterize the spectral purity. The results are in good agreement with the numerical simulations. Our work may provide a valuable approach for the generation of spectrally pure single photons at a wide range of wavelengths which is competent for various photonic quantum technologies.

Fiber components form the standard not only in modern telecommunication but also for future quantum information technology. For high-performance single-photon detection, superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SPDs) are typically fabricated on a silicon chip and fiber-coupled for easy handling and usage. The fiber-to-chip interface hinders the SPD from being an all-fiber device for full utilization of its excellent performance. Here, we report a scheme of SPD that is directly fabricated on the fiber tip. A bury-and-planar fabrication technique is developed to improve the roughness of the substrate for all-fiber detectors’ performance for single-photon detection with amorphous molybdenum silicide (MoSi) nanowires. The low material selectivity and universal planar process enable fabrication and packaging on a large scale. Such a detector responds to a broad wavelength range from 405 nm to 1550 nm at a dark count rate of 100 cps. The relaxation time of the response pulse is ~ 15 ns, which is comparable to that of on-chip SPDs. Therefore, this device is free from fiber-to-chip coupling and easy packaging for all-fiber quantum information systems.

It is not uncommon to see pipelines damaged by landslides. If the maximum strain that landslides exert on pipelines can be calculated from available survey data, then pipeline damage can be more accurately predicted and the safety of the pipeline can be improved. Furthermore, this information can assist targeted prevention and control measures, which should greatly reduce the risk that landslides pose to pipelines. However, although researchers have conducted considerable research on landslide-induced pipeline deformation, there is no model that can calculate the change in pipeline strain under the displacement of landslide material. Based on geological data collected from a buried crude oil pipeline damaged by a landslide near a city in southeast China, this work uses numerical simulations to obtain the deformation parameters of pipelines affected by landslides at different orientations and for different landslide and pipeline parameters. This work also summarizes the deformation characteristics of pipelines affected by landslides under these different variables. A model is then constructed and verified that simulates the change in pipeline strain with soil displacement while considering the characteristics of the landslide mass and the pipeline itself. The results show that the model can sufficiently reflect the influence of various factors that act on pipeline deformation and can accurately calculate the maximum strain that landslides exert on pipelines.

Interactive Natural Language Processing (iNLP) has emerged as a novel paradigm within the field of NLP, aimed at addressing limitations in existing frameworks while aligning with the ultimate goals of artificial intelligence. This paradigm considers language models as agents capable of observing, acting, and receiving feedback iteratively from external entities. Specifically, language models in this context can: (1) interact with humans for better understanding and addressing user needs, personalizing responses, aligning with human values, and improving the overall user experience; (2) interact with knowledge bases for enriching language representations with factual knowledge, enhancing the contextual relevance of responses, and dynamically leveraging external information to generate more accurate and informed responses; (3) interact with models and tools for effectively decomposing and addressing complex tasks, leveraging specialized expertise for specific subtasks, and fostering the simulation of social behaviors; and (4) interact with environments for learning grounded representations of language, and effectively tackling embodied tasks such as reasoning, planning, and decision-making in response to environmental observations. This paper offers a comprehensive survey of iNLP, starting by proposing a unified definition and framework of the concept. We then provide a systematic classification of iNLP, dissecting its various components, including interactive objects, interaction interfaces, and interaction methods. We proceed to delve into the evaluation methodologies used in the field, explore its diverse applications, scrutinize its ethical and safety issues, and discuss prospective research directions. Free-space optical communication (FSO) can achieve fast, secure and license-free communication without need for physical cables, making it a cost-effective, energy-efficient and flexible solution when the fiber connection is unavailable. To establish FSO connection on-demand, it is essential to build portable FSO devices with compact structure and light weight. Here, we develop a miniaturized FSO system and realize 9.16 Gbps FSO between two nodes that is 1 km apart, using a commercial single-mode-fiber-coupled optical transceiver module without optical amplification. Using our 4-stage acquisition, pointing and tracking (APT) systems, the tracking error is within 3 {\mu}rad and results an average link loss of 13.7 dB, which is the key for this high-bandwidth FSO demonstration without optical amplification. Our FSO link has been tested up to 4 km, with link loss of 18 dB that is limited by the foggy weather during the test. Longer FSO distances can be expected with better weather condition and optical amplification. Textual adversarial attacks can discover models' weaknesses by adding semantic-preserved but misleading perturbations to the inputs. The long-lasting adversarial attack-and-defense arms race in Natural Language Processing (NLP) is algorithm-centric, providing valuable techniques for automatic robustness evaluation. However, the existing practice of robustness evaluation may exhibit issues of incomprehensive evaluation, impractical evaluation protocol, and invalid adversarial samples. In this paper, we aim to set up a unified automatic robustness evaluation framework, shifting towards model-centric evaluation to further exploit the advantages of adversarial attacks. To address the above challenges, we first determine robustness evaluation dimensions based on model capabilities and specify the reasonable algorithm to generate adversarial samples for each dimension. Then we establish the evaluation protocol, including evaluation settings and metrics, under realistic demands. Finally, we use the perturbation degree of adversarial samples to control the sample validity. We implement a toolkit RobTest that realizes our automatic robustness evaluation framework. In our experiments, we conduct a robustness evaluation of RoBERTa models to demonstrate the effectiveness of our evaluation framework, and further show the rationality of each component in the framework. Several clinical studies demonstrate that there exist other immune checkpoints overexpressed in some PD-1 inhibitor-resistant tumor patients. Among them, Lymphocyte-activation gene 3 (LAG-3) is one of the important immune checkpoint molecules and has been clinically demonstrated to have synergistic anti-tumor effects in combination with PD-1 antibody. In this study, we designed a novel ‘knob-in-hole’ PD-1/LAG-3 bispecific antibody (BsAb) YG-003D3. In conclusion, the BsAb maintained the similar affinity and thermal stability to the parental antibody, and the BsAb structure can be independent of each other in the process of double-target recognition, and the recognition activity will not be affected. Moreover, the BsAb can not only target PD-1 and LAG-3 on single cell simultaneously, but also bridge the two kinds of cells expressing PD-1 and LAG-3, so as to release the ‘brake system of immune checkpoints’ and activate immune cells to exert anti-tumor effects more effectively. Especially in the PBMCs activation assay, YG-003D3 induced stronger IFN-γ, IL-6, and TNF-α secretion compared to anti-PD-1 or anti-LAG-3 single drug group or even combined drug group. In the tumor killing experiment of PBMC in vitro, YG-003D3 has a better ability to activate PBMC to kill tumor cells than anti-PD-1 or anti-LAG-3 single drug group or even combined drug group, and the killing rate is as high as 20%. In a humanized PD-1/LAG-3 transgenic mouse subcutaneous tumor-bearing model, YG-003D3 showed good anti-tumor activity, even better than that of the combination group at the same molar concentration. Further studies have shown that YG-003D3 could significantly alter the proportion of immune cells in the tumor microenvironment. In particular, the proportion of CD45+, CD3+ T, CD8+ T cells in tumor tissue and the proportion of CD3+ T, CD8+ T, CD4+ T cells in peripheral blood were significantly increased. These results suggest that YG-003D3 exerts a potent antitumor effect by activating the body ‘s immune system. In summary, the BsAb YG-003D3 has good anti-tumor activity, which is expected to become a novel drug candidate for cancer immunotherapy.

The management of reactivity hazards has long been a problem in chemical process and the indexing approach is believed to be an effective solution. However, while most of the reactivity indexes do not consider the runaway scenario and are often quite rough, the assessment criteria used to judge thermal runaway does not take the type of scenario or the severity of the consequences into account. At present, there are no index system that can represent the reactivity hazards in chemical process comprehensively. Therefore, this paper has developed a hazard index for reactivity management (HIRM) in chemical processes. The reactivity hazards could be identified, evaluated and managed through nine steps defined by this method. The HIRM method is able to assess various runaway scenarios and quantify the reactivity hazards based on the consequence and probability. The consequence is rated by the damage radius which represents the damage level caused by fire, explosion, and toxic release due to reaction runaway. The probability indicates the initial event frequency, the initiation time and the controllability of the entire runaway process. The reactivity risks could then be classified by the HIRM index uniformly and comprehensively, with methods to manage the risks proposed. Six sets of equipment in the dicumyl peroxide (DCP) production unit was used as an example to demonstrate the construction of the HIRM index system. The results showed good agreement with the actual risk distribution, meaning that the HIRM method is an effective tool for the management of reactivity hazards in chemical process.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common chronic allergic skin disease characterized clinically by severe skin lesions and pruritus. Portulaca oleracea L. (PO) is a resourceful plant with homologous properties in medicine and food. In this study, we used two different methods to extract PO, and compared the therapeutic effects of PO aqueous extract (POAE) and PO ultrasound-assisted ethanol extract (POEE) on 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced AD mice. The results showed that in POAE and POEE, the extraction rates of polysaccharides were 16.95% and 9.85%, while the extraction rates of total flavonoids were 3.15% and 3.25%, respectively. Compared with AD mice, clinical symptoms such as erythema, edema, dryness and ulceration in the back and left ear were alleviated, and pruritus behavior was reduced after POAE and POEE treatments. The thickness of the skin epidermis was thinned, the density of skin nerve fibers labeled with protein gene product 9.5 (PGP9.5) was decreased, and mast cell infiltration was reduced. There was a decrease in blood lymphocytes, eosinophils and basophils, a significant decrease in spleen index and a noticeable decrease in serum immunoglobulin E (Ig E). POEE significantly reduced the concentration of the skin pruritic factor interleukin (Il)-31. POAE and POEE reduced the concentration of skin histamine (His), down-regulated mRNA expression levels of interferon-γ (Ifnγ), tumor necrosis factor-α (Tnf-α), thymic stromal lymphopoietin (Tslp) and Il-4, with an increase of Filaggrin (Flg) and Loricrin (Lor) in skin lesions. These results suggested that POAE and POEE may inhibit atopic response and alleviate the clinical symptoms of AD by inhibiting the expression of immune cells, inflammatory mediators and cytokines. PO may be a potential effective drug for AD-like diseases.

Background The efficacy and safety of tigecycline in the treatment of complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAIs) is potentially controversial. Here we conducted the non-inferiority study to assess the efficacy and safety of tigecycline versus meropenem in the treatment of postoperative cIAIs. Methods Data of abdominal tumor surgery patients with postoperative cIAIs admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) between October 2017 and December 2019 were collected. A prospective, randomized controlled trial was conducted in which 56 eligible patients with cIAIs randomly received intravenous tigecycline or meropenem for 3 to 14 days. Patients and clinicians were not blinded to the group allocation. Results The total of 56 patients were enrolled, which were divided into 2 groups, one group included 30 patients receiving meropenem and another group included 26 receiving tigecycline therapy. The 2 groups were similar at demographic and baseline clinical characteristics. Microorganisms were isolated from 46 of 56 patients (82.14%), with a total of 107 pathogens were cultured in two groups. The two groups had similar distribution of infecting microorganisms. The primary end point was the clinical response at the end-oftherapy (EOT) visit and upon discharge visit and comprehensive efficacy. The clinical success rates were 83.33%, 76.67% for meropenem versus 76.92%, 88.46% for tigecycline at the EOT visit and upon discharge visit (P>0.05), respectively. Comprehensive efficacy did not significantly differ between two groups either. There were no significant differences in 30-day and 60-day all-cause mortality between two groups (P>0.05). The univariable analysis identified that serum albumin at admission ICU, colorectal cancer on oncology type, postoperative abdominal bleeding were the risk factors for 60-day all-cause mortality. The multivariable analysis showed that postoperative abdominal bleeding were independent predictors of 60-day all-cause mortality. Gastrointestinal disorders and antibacterials-induced Fungal Infection were the most frequently reported adverse events (AEs). The incidence of AEs was similar between meropenem and tigecycline groups (P>0.05). Conclusions Taken together, the study demonstrated that tigecycline is as effective and safe as meropenem for postoperative cIAIs in abdominal tumors patients. Tigecycline is non-inferior to meropenem.

The reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) problem involving discrete design variables and multi-working constraints is tackled with the consideration of the uncertainty factors in the optimal design of crawler crane’s lattice boom. In the optimization model, the uncertainties of material property, geometric parameters and loads are represented by random variables. The geometrical dimensions, performance functions’ reliability indexes and the minimum weight of lattice boom are defined respectively as the random design variables, probabilistic constraints and objective function. Integrating the reliability analysis method based on response surface method (RSM) with multi-island genetic algorithm (MIGA), an efficient reliability-based design optimization process for the lattice boom is developed under the typical constrained working conditions. Several verification cases are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of optimization results. It is shown that the reliability-based design optimization method can not only satisfy the reliability constraints of the lattice boom, but also ensure the safety and economy of crawler crane boom as well as minimize the structure weight. The developed method is capable to be extended to the reliability-based design optimization of other large and complex construction machinery structures.

Background: Scapulohumeral periarthritis causes pain and stiffness, and limits movement but it is a treatable condition. This was a clinical study of acupotomy treatment for scapulohumeral periarthritis.Methods: There were 80 patients randomly assigned to the traditional Chinese Medicine group (acupotomy) and the Western medicine group (naproxen), with 40 cases in each group. All patients had adjunct physiotherapy exercises for 14 days. Patients received acupotomy treatment 3 times for 14 days (Day 0, 7 and 14) or naproxen (0.22 g capsule; a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) 3 times a day, for 14 days. The visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, range of motion (ROM) values, and the Melle scale, together with the therapeutic standard of diseases and syndromes in traditional Chinese Medicine were used for diagnosis and evaluation.Results: There were significant differences in the VAS scores, ROM, Melle scores, cure rate and total effective rate in the group which took naproxen and the acupotomy group, before and after treatment (p < 0.01). There were significant differences in the changes in VAS, ROM and Melle scores between the 2 groups (p < 0.01), and the acupotomy group was better than the naproxen group.Conclusion: Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine can improve functional activity and reduce the level of pain experienced by patients suffering from scapulohumeral periarthritis. However, improvement of functional activity of the shoulder joint following acupotomy treatment was more obvious than the use of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, and the cure rate, and total effective rate of acupotomy was better.

Background Advances in oncology led to a substantial increase in the number of patients requiring admission to the intensive care unit (ICU). It remains controversial to start continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) for acute kidney injure (AKI) in critically ill patients with cancer because of the poor outcome and high costs. Methods In this retrospective study, we collected data from patients with cancer with postoperative AKI-stage 3 [Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO), 2012] undergoing CRRT in the ICU of Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from January 2010 to January 2019. Patients were followed up until the time of death or the point of 28-day after ICU admission. Univariate and multivariate analysis was performed to identify risk factors for 28-day survive. Results Of 8,030 cancer patients after surgical operation admitted by ICU, a total of 86 (1.1%) patients developed postoperative AKI: male/female: 62/24, median age 61 [27–82] years. The number of digestive tract/lung/other types of cancer was 59, 10 and 17, respectively. The median Simplified Acute Physiology Score III (SAPS III) was 65 [49–109] and the median Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score was 6 [1–19]. There were 35 deaths eventually and all the deaths occur within 28 days after ICU admission. Twenty-eight-day survive rate was 57.1%±5.8%. In multivariate cox regression analysis, two risk factors independently affected 28-day survive: SAPS III score ≥65 [hazard ratio (HR): 3.451 (1.272–9.365), P=0.015], the presence of shock at the start of CRRT [HR: 10.262 (2.210–47.660), P=0.003]. The cancer status (P=0.076), cancer types (P>0.05 for both) and neoadjuvant therapy associated with cancer (P=0.949) showed no effects on 28-day survive. Conclusions For cancer patients, postoperative AKI-stage 3 is a serious complication with a low 28-day survive rate. Patients with the presence shock at the start of CRRT or SAPS III ≥65 will have a poor 28-day survive. It should be emphasized that the cancer characteristics (status, types or treatment) don’t affect 28-day survive.

Canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2) is currently circulating in domestic and wild animals, but our knowledge about CPV-2 infections in raccoon dogs is limited. In this study, VP2 gene sequences of CPV-2 were amplified from rectal swabs of 14 diarrhetic raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes procyonoides) in Hebei province, China, in 2016 and 2017. Phylogenetic analysis of the VP2 gene sequences revealed that most of these sequences (11 of 14) belonged to the same subclade as raccoon dog strain CPV-2/Raccoon_Dog/China/DP-1/16 isolated from Shandong province in 2016. A comparison of deduced amino acid sequences revealed presence of the substitutions S297A and S27T in 11 of those 14 sequences. I418T was observed in a minority of the sequences (4 of 14). In addition, A300D and T301I, P13S and I219V, and N419K were found in three of the sequences. This study shows that CPV-2 strains with different substitutions in their VP2 amino acid sequences were spreading among raccoon dogs in Hebei during 2016 and 2017 and suggests that further studies are needed to monitor the distribution of these strains in China.

Aluminum powder explosion accidents occurred frequently, but the mechanism of aluminum powder explosion is unclear. Therefore, the inhibitive effect of aluminum powder explosion plays a key role. To evaluate the inhibition capacity of different kinds of carbonates and phosphates: NaH2PO4, (NH4)2HPO4, NH4H2PO4, KHCO3 and NaHCO3 on aluminum deflagrations, a standard 20-L spherical chamber was used to determine the explosion severity, characterized by the maximum explosion pressure (Pmax). New parameters have been proposed: the minimum significant inert concentration (MSIC) and the minimum complete inert concentration (MCIC), which characterized the effect of inert. Experimental results showed that from the minimum significant inert concentration (MSIC) and the minimum complete inert concentration (MCIC), phosphate can have a significant inhibiting effect. 40% NaH2PO4 can totally inert the aluminum explosion, and 50% (NH4)2HPO4 or 50% NH4H2PO4 can also suppress the explosion. Through simulation, phosphate mainly acts via a chemical inhibition pathway, which inhibits the reaction of aluminum powder and oxygen by catalyzing the recombination of H atoms and O atoms. Carbonate performs inhibition in chemically, producing CO2, diluting the oxygen around the aluminum powder. Studies indicated that the explosion pressure of the mixture decreases as the concentration of inert dust increases. However, when the concentration of carbonates was low, SEEP (suppressant enhanced explosion parameter) phenomenon was found. This research work has a potential industrial application in high hazard aluminum working condition, which can help decrease the explosion pressure and reduce the accident loss.

We attempted to prevent the thermal risk of a runaway reaction of polymerization in a batch reactor and to realize online monitoring and emergency inhibition of the thermal runaway behavior. Styrene thermal initiation of bulk polymerization was studied. A full-size model of the styrene polymerization reactor was constructed by referring to the reactor model of the Mettler Toledo automatic calorimeter, which was combined with the kinetic and thermodynamic models of styrene polymerization. The DIV thermal runaway critical criterion based on chaos divergence theory was used to judge the thermal runaway reaction. The critical point of the runaway reaction was determined and used to inhibit the thermal runaway of styrene polymerization by injecting cooling diluents at the liquid surface. The influence of injection rate ( v c = 0.5 、 0.8 、 1 m / s ), injection position (in-1、in-2、in-3), and amount of cooling diluents (no add、50 %、70 %、100 %) injected on the thermal runaway inhibition of the reaction was investigated and elucidated. The results indicated that a better inhibiting effect can be obtained by injecting the inhibitors at higher rates near the edge of the paddle blade. Moreover, appropriately increasing the injection amount of the inhibitors can achieve better inhibition of the runaway reaction.

Shenling Baizhu San has beneficial effects on the metabolism of the gut microbiota, however, the mechanisms underlying microbiota metabolites mediated anti-inflammation signaling are not well understood. Previously, we have demonstrated that supplementation with Shenling Baizhu San alleviated antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD). The current study intends to investigate the dynamic modulation of Shenling Baizhu San polysaccharides (SP) on colitis from the gut microbiota metabolites perspective. Administration of SP effectively relieved colitis induced by DSS in mice, including alleviating body weight loss, the downregulation of colon proinflammatory mediators, and the promotion of intestinal injury repair. Whereas, the efficacy was eliminated by antibiotics, which demonstrated that the efficacy of SP was dependent on the gut microbiota. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) showed that the efficacy of SP can be transferred to gut microbiota. Serum metabolomics analysis showed that supplementation with SP significantly promoted tryptophan metabolism, which was consistent with the changed structure of the gut microbiota, including Bacteroides, Bifidobacterium and Ruminococcus regulated by SP. Especially, the tryptophan metabolites-kynurenine (KYN) activated the expression of amplifying aryl-hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) and Cyp1A1 to promote IL-10 expression in colon. These data suggested that SP positively affected colitis in mice by regulating tryptophan metabolic function of their gut microbiota.

BackgroundSpinal cord injury (SCI) has devastating physical and social consequences for patients. Systemic administration of methylprednisolone (MP) at a higher dosage though can reduce neurological deficits following acute SCI. Still, this treatment regimen is controversial, owing to the apparent dose-related side effects and relatively minor improvement in neurological function. Therefore, this study aimed at the bibliometric analysis of published literature related to SCI treatment, which may lead to future research trends.MethodsThe literature published relating to SCI and using glucocorticoids for its treatment between 1982 and 2022 was collected and scanned in the Web of Science collection database using the keywords glucocorticoid, dexamethasone, MP, corticosteroids, and SCI, followed by using VOSviewer for bibliometric analysis of these articles.ResultsA total of 1,848 published articles and 7,448 authors on SCI and glucocorticoid usage were identified. The SCI total link strength accounts for 1,341, and MP for 762 has a strong link to neuroprotection and inflammation. The mean citation count for the top 20 most-cited articles was 682 (range: 358–1,828), where most of these were descriptive studies having focused on clinical features. The Journal of Neurotrauma was the highest-ranked journal with 6,010 citations. A total of 69 articles were published by Michael G Fehlings from the University of Toronto with 6,092 citations. The University of Toronto has published 90-related manuscripts with 7,632 citations. In contrast, 800 articles were published in the United States, with 39,633 citations and total link strength of 5,714. The second-ranked country was China, with 241 published articles and 3,403 citations.ConclusionsThe research published on applying MP in treating SCI has increased with time. Although the United States has made a significant global contribution to this important field of research, it requires rigorous clinical trials designed to verify the therapeutic role of MP in SCI and its appropriate dosage to find solutions for neurological recovery.

The presence of screw tunnels in the femoral neck is a problem for patients with proximal femoral fractures after removal of internal fixation. The question of how much does the existence of the screw tunnels affect the strength of the femur and whether the patient needs to be protected with an adjunctive device has been controversial. The objective of this finite element analysis was to determine (1) whether the screw tunnels affects normal weight bearing after removal of internal fixation of a proximal femur fracture, (2) which screw tunnels parameters affect the weight bearing capacity of the entire femur.The presence of the screw tunnels reduces the load-bearing capacity of the femur, and the arrangement, diameter and wall thickness of the screw tunnels affect the load-bearing capacity of the femur.Twenty patients who underwent surgical treatment for proximal femur fracture at our hospital were included in the study. Computed tomography (CT) values of the screw tunnel wall in the femur after removal of internal fixations were analysed. Mimics v16.0 and Hypermesh v13.0 software programs were used to generate 3-dimensional (3D) tetrahedral finite element models of the proximal femur with different screw tunnel numbers, diameters, thicknesses, and arrangements. An acetabulum exerting a vertical pressure load of 600N on the femoral head was simulated and the force on various parts of the femur in each model was calculated.There was no difference in the Hounsfield Units of the tunnel walls and cortical bone of the proximal femur (893.48±61.28 vs. 926.34±58.43; p=0.091). In each of the 3D models, the cancellous bone was the first structure to reach maximal stress. The compressive strength of the femur decreased with increasing thickness of the screw tunnel wall and decreased with increasing tunnel diameter. The femoral neck model with the inverted triangle screw tunnel arrangement had the highest compressive strength.The femoral neck with screw tunnels can withstand day-to-day stress without special intervention. For femoral neck fractures fixed with cannulated screws, inverted triangle screws are recommended; For a single screw tunnel in the femoral neck, the larger the diameter of the femoral neck internal screw channel, the weaker the load-bearing capacity of the femur.III; well-designed computational non-experimental study.

Parent education programs are important avenues through which parents of children with developmental delays can learn new skills to help them with child-rearing challenges. However, those in economic hardship often face problems with applying these skills at home where the child’s learning and/or behavioral problems commonly occur. In this exploratory qualitative study, we adopted a positive deviance (PD) lens to explore strategies six economically disadvantaged parents used to support their children who were attending special and mainstream preschools concurrently. The PD perspective was first used in public health research with low-resource communities where a few individuals have been observed to adopt uncommon practices and behaviors that enable them to find better ways to prevent social or health problems than their neighbors facing similar constraints and risks. We identified adaptive parental behaviors, thoughts and feelings that helped them navigate daily hassles faced with “dual schooling” their children in Singapore. The study highlights important implications in the development and refinement of future parent training programs.

BackgroundRecent studies suggest that routine laboratory tests are not required within 1 day after partial knee arthroplasty. This study aimed to evaluate the utility of routine postoperative laboratory tests after initial unilateral total knee arthroplasty(TKA) in an Asian population and to identify risk factors associated with abnormal test results.MethodsThe clinical data of patients who underwent original unilateral TKA from 2015 to 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Patient characteristics and laboratory test values were recorded. Multivariate binary logistic regression analysis was also performed to identify risk factors associated with 3 abnormal laboratory values.ResultsA total of 713 patients were included in this study and underwent relevant laboratory tests within 3 days of TKA surgery. However, only a small proportion of patients with anemia (8.1 %), hypoalbuminemia (9.9 %), and abnormal serum potassium levels (3.4 %) required clinical intervention after surgery. Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that independent risk factors for postoperative blood transfusion in TKA patients included preoperative hemoglobin level, estimated blood loss, and age. Related risk factors for postoperative albumin supplementation were preoperative albumin level, intraoperative blood loss and operation time. In addition, lower body mass index (BMI) and preoperative hypokalemia were found to be potential risk factors for postoperative potassium supplementation.ConclusionSince more than 90% of abnormal postoperative laboratory tests do not require clinical intervention, the authors believe that it is of little significance for patients with primary unilateral TKA to receive routine laboratory tests after surgery. However, in patients with established risk factors, postoperative laboratory testing is still necessary.

BackgroundAlthough within the normal range, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels are associated with cardio-metabolic disorders and have an effect on the cardiovascular system. The aim of our study was to assess the prognostic value of normal TSH on long-term mortality in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).MethodsConsecutive STEMI patients who had a TSH level within the normal range (0.55–4.78 μIU/ml) were enrolled from November 2013 to December 2018. Patients were stratified into three groups depending on the tertile of TSH level, and all-cause mortality and cardiac death were compared. TSH concentrations associated with risk of all-cause mortality were evaluated in a continuous scale (restricted cubic splines) and the Cox proportional hazards regression model.ResultsA total of 1,203 patients with STEMI were eligible for analysis. During a median follow-up of 39 months, patients in the 3rd tertile group had higher all-cause mortality (20.1% vs. 12.2% and 14.3%, p = 0.006) and cardiac death (15.4% vs. 7.7% and 12.3%, p = 0.001) as compared to the 1st and 2nd tertile groups. The Cox proportional hazards model showed that TSH was an independent predictor on long-term all-cause mortality (HR: 1.248, 95% CI: 1.046–1.490, p = 0.014). However, subgroup analysis indicated that TSH (HR: 1.313, 95% CI: 1.063–1.623, p = 0.012) was only significantly associated with long-term all-cause mortality in the patients without emergency reperfusion therapy. Restricted cubic spline analyses showed a linear relationship between TSH concentrations and all-cause mortality (P for non-linearity = 0.659).ConclusionsA Higher TSH level - even in a normal range is associated with long-term mortality in patients with STEMI, proposing an additional indication to identify STEMI patients with poor prognosis.

High-field charge transport in semiconductors is of fundamental interest and practical importance. While the \textit{ab initio} treatment of low-field transport is well-developed, the treatment of high-field transport is much less so, particularly for multi-phonon processes that are reported to be relevant in GaAs. Here, we report a calculation of the high-field transport properties and current power spectral density (PSD) of hot electrons in GaAs from first principles including on-shell two-phonon (2ph) scattering. The on-shell 2ph scattering rates are found to qualitatively alter the high-field distribution function by increasing both the momentum and energy relaxation rates as well as contributing markedly to intervalley scattering. This finding reconciles a long-standing discrepancy regarding the strength of intervalley scattering in GaAs as inferred from transport and optical studies. The characteristic non-monotonic trend of PSD with electric field is not predicted at this level of theory. The coherent superposition of position states in a quantum walk (QW) can be precisely engineered towards the desired distributions to meet the need of quantum information applications. The coherent distribution can make full use of quantum parallel in computation and simulation. Particularly, the uniform superposition provides the robust non-locality, which has wide applications such as the generation of genuine multi-bit random numbers without post-processing. We experimentally demonstrate that the rich dynamics featured with arbitrary coherent distributions can be obtained by introducing different sets of the time- and position-dependent operations. Such a QW is realized by a resource-constant and flexible optical circuit, in which the variable operation is executed based on a Sagnac interferometer in an intrinsically stable and precisely controlled way. Microresonator-based optical frequency comb (microcomb) has the potential to revolutionize the accuracy of frequency synthesizer in radar and communication applications. However, fundamental limit exists for low noise microcomb generation, especially in low size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C) package. Here we resolve this limit, by the demonstration of an automated turnkey microcomb, operating close to its low quantum-limited phase noise, within a compact setup size of 85 mm * 90 mm * 25 mm. High quality factor fiber Fabry-Perot resonator (FFPR), with Q up to 4.0 * 10^9, is the key for both low quantum noise and pump noise limit, in the diode-pump case in a self-injection locking scheme. Low phase noise of -80 and -105 dBc/Hz at 100 Hz, -106 and -125 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz, -133 and -148 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz is achieved at 10.1 GHz and 1.7 GHz repetition frequencies, respectively. With the simultaneous automated turnkey, low-noise and direct-diode-pump capability, our microcomb is ready to be used as a low-noise frequency synthesizer with low SWaP-C and thus field deployability.

Self-testing, which refers to device independent characterization of the state and the measurement, has been intensively studied in quantum information theory. One of the implicit assumptions in self-testing theorem is, measurement settings should be chosen randomly and independently by each party. The relaxation of this assumption potentially gives untrusted device providers the power to control the device with no quantum feature, even fake the quantum behavior by using the classical strategies within the device. In this paper, we analyze the effects of the reduced measurements independence on self-testing two-qubit entangled states based on the violation of Bell inequalities. By assuming adversary’s capabilities, we show to achieve the maximum CHSH violation in this case, four different state-measurements preparations should be provided. Without run information one could not really self-test the underlying system in each run anymore, but it must be equal with one of four entangled systems up to local unitaries.
