Introdução: A cardiopatia reumática crônica é uma complicação não supurativa porinfecção da faringoamigdalite pelo streptococcus b-hemolítico do grupo A. Ocorre emindivíduos genéticamente susceptíveis e que tiveram uma resposta imune tardia. É amanifestação crônica mais severa da febre reumática, que se caracteriza por fibrose ecalcificação valvar. É uma patologia de alta incidência no Tocantins, mas que tempoucos estudos que informam sobre o perfil do paciente e sua relevância, algofundamental para a prevenção dos agravos. O objetivo desse trabalho foi descrever ascaracterísticas sociodemográficas e epidemiológicas dos pacientes internados emHospitais do SUS entre 2011 a 2018 no Estado de Tocantins. Método: Estudoepidemiológico, descritivo, retrospectivo com uma população (n) de 268 pacientesadmitidos entre 2011 e 2018 no eEstado do Tocantins. Os dados foram coletados dabase de dados do Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde(DATASUS). Foram analisadas as características epidemiológicas como sexo,raça/cor, faixa etária, média de permanência e taxa de mortalidade. Resultados: Noperíodo analisado de 2011 a 2018, as doenças do aparelho circulatório com ênfase nadoença reumática crônica do coração, teve maior prevalência o ano de 2012, n=56, o que equivale 20,8% de um total de 268 internações. Dentre todas as faixas etáriasanalisadas, menor que 1 ano até maior que 80 anos, a idade de maior predomínio foide 40-49 anos, n=49, correspondente a 18,2% do total analisado. De todas as raçasapuradas, a parda foi dominante, n=189, com 70,5%. O maior número de óbitos foiem 2014, tendo 33,3%, n=4 de um total de 12 óbitos do período estudado.Conclusões: A incidência de internação hospitalar foi elevada quando comparada àmédia da região Norte. A descrição das características sociodemográficas eepidemiológicas norteia o planejamento das ações dos profissionais de saúde parafornecer um atendimento de melhor qualidade. O estudo apresentou limitações vistoque a fontes de dados (SIH/SUS) registra somente informações realizadas no sistemapúblico de saúde. Ressalta-se que o tratamento da febre reumática para ser eficientedeve ser precoce e se possível, antes do comprometimento do coração.

Resumen basado en el de la publicación Título, resumen y palabras clave también en español Monográfico con el título: “La integración efectiva del dispositivo móvil en la educación y en el aprendizaje" Se evalúa la idoneidad de los teléfonos inteligentes para explicar conceptos de Mecánica Clásica, minimizando el uso de recursos y tiempo en el aula, en dos clases reales (con estudiantes de edades comprendidas entre los 16 y los 19 años) mediante la ejecución de experimentos relacionados con el movimiento de proyectiles (caída libre y trayectoria parabólica). Se presenta una metodología sencilla, que únicamente hace uso de un teléfono móvil, una aplicación fotográfica gratuita para captura de imágenes en ráfaga y herramientas de código abierto (GIMP y OpenOffice Calc) para el procesado de los datos. Los resultados obtenidos en condiciones no optimizadas han conducido a una estimación de la aceleración de la gravedad con un error inferior al 2%. En la discusión de resultados se sugieren análisis más avanzados y otros procedimientos alternativos. No se encontraron problemas significativos en la ejecución de los experimentos ni con los alumnos de enseñanza secundaria ni con los de primer año de carrera, y el grado de satisfacción entre el alumnado fue alto. Until a few decades ago, the historians’ interest in the evaluation of the power exercised by the queens, as wives or mothers of the kings who were in charge of the governance of the kingdom, was almost non-existent. However, there are enough data to prove that in Portugal, in the Middle Ages, some queens exerted political and diplomatic functions, participated with their husbands in the administration of the assets of the crown, in addition to fulfilling the obvious obligations of being good wives and mothers. Philippa of Lancaster’s –wife of John I of Portugal– queenship is well documented. Hasta hace algunas décadas, el interés mostrado por los historiadores en evaluar el poder ejercido por las reinas portuguesas como consortes o progenitoras de los reyes era casi inexistente. Se conservan, sin embargo, suficientes datos como para poder afirmar que, en la Edad Media portuguesa, algunas reinas ejercieron funciones de naturaleza política y diplomática, y participaron junto a sus maridos en la administración de los bienes de la corona, además de cumplir con los deberes que se les atribuían como esposas y madres. Uno de los casos mejor documentados es el de Felipa de Lancáster, esposa de Juan I de Portugal, a quien llamaremos João I para evitar confusiones causadas por homonimias.

The way the fields are delineated has been the Achilles' heel of studies analyzing the status and evolution of given scientific areas. Based on van den Besselaar and Leydesdorff's (Mapping change in scientific specialities; a scientometric reconstruction of the development of artificial intelligence, 1996) contribution, the authors propose a systematic and objective method for delineating the field of ecological economics assuming that aggregated journal-journal citation relations is an appropriate indicator for the disciplinary organization of the sciences. They found that the relational scientific backbone of ecological economics comprises 7 main journals: American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Ecological Economics, Environment and Development Economics, Environmental and Resources Economics, Land Economics, Land Use Policy, and Journal of Environmental Economics and Management. From the 3727 articles published between 2005 and 2010 in the ecological economics field, and the corresponding 142 thousand citations two main outcomes emerged: 1) the intellectual frame of reference is overwhelmed by economists and environmental and resources economists with (renowned) ecological economists relatively underrepresented; 2) the building of an integrative knowledge domain is not apparent: on the one hand, ecological economics is seen to be an 'unbound' heterodox and multidisciplinary field, but on the other hand, and somewhat awkwardly, it is (still) heavily 'bound' by quantitative mainstream/ orthodox methodologies.

Two new compounds 2 and 4, along with two known compounds 1 and 3, were isolated for the first time from 95% ethanolic extract of the leaves of Ficus rumphii. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of chemical and physical evidences (elemental analysis, UV, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and mass spectra) and comparison with the literature compounds. Structural authentication of compound 4 was further validated by single-crystal X-ray analysis and DFT calculations. The compounds 1–4 were screened for in vitro cytotoxicity against cancer and non-cancer cells and also tested for genotoxicity (comet assay). Compounds 2 and 4 displayed significant activity against HL-60 with IC50 values of 3.3 and 2.3 μM, respectively. The results revealed that compound 4 has better prospectus to act as cancer chemotherapeutic candidate which warrants further in vivo anticancer investigations.

Contribution to the study of Portuguese Judaic courtiers, in particular of Don David Negro. King Fernando’s councilor and royal servant, and the later rabbi in Castilla, during the reign of Juan I. Don David took part in the political rebellion of 1383 – 1385 which resulted in the rise of the Master of Avis to the throne of Portugal – D. João I., Aportación al estudio de los judíos cortesanos portugueses, en especial, el caso de Don David Negro. Consejero y funcionario regio del Rey Don Fernando y, más tarde, rabí de Castilla, en el reinado de Juan I. Don David participó en la rebelión política de 1383 – 1385 que culminó en la ascensión al trono de Mestre de Avis, Don João I de Portugal.

Dissertação de mestrado integrado em Engenharia Civil, O melhoramento das propriedades geotécnicas dos solos é, frequentemente, realizado pela adição de ligantes tradicionais ao solo, normalmente cimento ou cal. Contudo, estes ligantes representam um custo financeiro e ambiental significativo que importa mitigar. Nesse sentido, a presente dissertação tem como principal objetivo o desenvolvimento de soluções alternativas para melhoramento de solos com baixas propriedades mecânicas, por intermédio da utilização de ligantes desenvolvidos através da técnica designada por ativação alcalina, que combina resíduos industriais com ativadores químicos, à base de reagentes comerciais, no contexto da construção de infraestruturas de transporte. Ao aplicar estes ligantes ao solo, pretende-se promover o seu melhoramento, obtendo assim características mecânicas superiores às do solo original. Os ligantes obtidos por ativação alcalina permitem a reutilização de alguns resíduos industriais num contexto de economia circular, representando desta forma uma alternativa mais sustentável em termos ambientais e financeiros comparativamente às técnicas tradicionais. Desta forma, será possível contribuir para a redução das emissões de gases com efeito de estufa associados à produção do cimento Portland, a reintrodução de resíduos na economia, a minimização do impacto ambiental resultante da deposição dos resíduos nos aterros e a redução da exploração de matérias-primas associadas à produção dos ligantes tradicionais. Neste trabalho foi utilizado um solo argiloso o qual foi ensaiado na sua forma original e com várias misturas com cinzas ativadas alcalinamente. Foi realizado um conjunto significativo de ensaios laboratoriais, nomeadamente: ensaios de compressão uniaxial, ensaios California Bearing Ratio (CBR), ensaios de ultrassons e ensaios triaxiais que permitiram avaliar, quantitativamente, o melhoramento conseguido nas propriedades mecânicas com a aplicação da técnica de ativação alcalina de cinzas volantes no solo. Paralelamente, como meio de comparação dos resultados obtidos, foram realizados ensaios em misturas de solo com ligantes tradicionais (cimento e cal).Os resultados mostram que a técnica de ativação alcalina como forma de melhoramento de solos conduz a resultados competitivos em termos de características mecânicas com as melhores misturas utilizando ligantes tradicionais., The improvement of the geotechnical properties of soils is frequently carried out by adding traditional binders to the soil, normally cement or lime. However, these binders represent significant finantial and environmental costs that it are important to mitigate. In this sense, the main goal of the present dissertation is the development of alternative solutions for the improvement of the mechanical properties of poor soils, by using binders developed by a technique called alkaline activation, which combines industrial wastes with chemichal activators, based on comercial reagents, in the context of transportation infrastructures construction. By applying these binders to the soil it is intended to improve it, obtaining better mechanical characteristics than those of the original soil. The binders obtained by alkaline activation allow the reuse of some industrial wastes in the context of circular economy, and it is a more sustainable alternative in both environmental and finantial terms, when compared with the tradicional techniques. In this sense, it will be possible to contribute to: reduction in green house gas emissions associated to the production of Portland cement; the reintroduction of wastes in the economy; the minimization of the environmental impact of wastes deposition in landfills; and the reduction of raw-materials exploitation associated to the production of tradicional binders. In this work a clayey soil was used and tested in its original form and with several mixtures with alkaline activated fly-ash. A significant set of laboratory tests was performed, namely: uniaxial compression tests, California Bearing Ratio (CBR), ultrassound and triaxials, to quantify the improvement in the mechanical properties of the soil with the use of the alkaline activation of fly-ash. Additionally, also tests on mixtures of the soil with traditional binders (cement and lime) were carried out. The results show that this technique when applied as a way to improve the characteristics of soils show competitive results in terms of mechanical characteristics with the best mixtures performed with traditional binders.

The Earth BioGenome Project (EBP) is an audacious endeavor to obtain whole-genome sequences of representatives from all eukaryotic species on Earth. In addition to the project’s technical and organizational challenges, it also faces complicated ethical, legal, and social issues. This paper, from members of the EBP’s Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues (ELSI) Committee, catalogs these ELSI concerns arising from EBP. These include legal issues, such as sample collection and permitting; the applicability of international treaties, such as the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Nagoya Protocol; intellectual property; sample accessioning; and biosecurity and ethical issues, such as sampling from the territories of Indigenous peoples and local communities, the protection of endangered species, and cross-border collections, among several others. We also comment on the intersection of digital sequence information and data rights. More broadly, this list of ethical, legal, and social issues for large-scale genomic sequencing projects may be useful in the consideration of ethical frameworks for future projects. While we do not—and cannot—provide simple, overarching solutions for all the issues raised here, we conclude our perspective by beginning to chart a path forward for EBP’s work.

The present work is part of the Project for Scientific Research and Techno-logical Development "Accessibility for All in Tourism" focuses on modal in-terfaces designed according to the concepts of "Universal Design" and "Age Sensitive Design". In this project 851 surveys were carried out for elderly tourists, who arrived in Algarve (Portugal) through the international Airport of Faro, in the summer of 2018, with a view to understanding their prefer-ences and needs in terms of mobility. It presents the characterization of the senior tourist in Algarve, according to: gender, age, academic qualification, situation in the relation to the profession, nationality, disability and/or disa-bilities that affects mobility and the need to use technical aids to move. It analyses and compares, from the point of view of sustainable mobility, the mobility of the elderly tourist, by gender and age group, in the country where they reside and in the Algarve region. This information is useful for local au-thorities and for transport operators in order to make the mobility of elderly tourists, in Algarve, more sustainable from a social, economic and environ-mental standpoint.
