Information and communication technology (ICT) literacy education has become an important issue, and the necessity of computational literacy (CL) has been increasing in our growing information society. CL is becoming an important element for future talents, and many countries, including the USA, are developing programs for CL education. Accordingly, Korea’s Ministry of Education has modified the ICT education program created in 2000. The revised curriculum has emphasized computational thinking and informational ethics since 2007. However, in revising the ICT curriculum, we need to develop a new ICT test tool because the previous tool did not include CL. Thus, we developed a new ICT literacy test tool consisting of fundamental concepts, contemporary skills, and CL. We then carried out a test on 40,072 elementary students nationally. To determine the CL level of students, we used the standard level obtained from ten experts using the Angoff method (1971) and analyzed the difference between the standard level and students’ level in the test. The results showed that students’ CL scores were remarkably lower than their scores on fundamental concepts and contemporary skills. We consequently found that the revised ICT curriculum did not apply to the current ICT education domain, implying that we need to develop a strategy to expand CL to different educational fields, which would help researchers and administrators to measure CL in ICT education.

This study proposes a new intelligent tutoring system using case-based student modeling. The proposed system can effectively infer the state of the student's knowledge. The knowledge state is diagnosed through the cases that are generated when the student solves a problem. We have chosen a procedural learning in the physics and designed this domain. In solving this problem, the knowledge types can be divided into the declarative and the procedural knowledge. Procedural knowledge is represented as the graphical case that constitutes a set of nodes and arcs. Declarative knowledge is represented as the analytical case that constitutes attribute-value pairs. In this study, we have implemented the intelligent tutoring system using case-based student model. We have estimated the performance between the human expert and the proposed system to prove the validity of this study. As a result, we have found that the inference method of the proposed system is similar to the human expert.

This study suggests the effective learning programming method using the Wiki Community Systems. In an e-Learning setting, it is hard to expect the growing learners' ability of thinking and collaboration when programming learning focuses on learning content. The Wiki Community systems we suggested, which are community-centered, however, can foster learners' ability of algorithm thinking through processing of sharing ideas and collaborating on a work with learners. We applied learning programming method using the Wiki Community systems to the fourth-grade elementary students. As a result, learners could share their ideas about solving problems and collaborate on the entire processes of learning. Furthermore, this system makes learners' knowledge for algorism to be more elaborate during learners are finding out the optimum algorithm and improve learners' thinking power.

This study proposes a Web Services-based Digital Libraries (DLs) using Case-based Reasoning as a space for collaborative learning. In the Digital Library environment, cases were designed on the basis of a list of loaned books and personal information. Using those data, a degree of preference was computed and Case-based Reasoning was used to compare among the cases in the case base. The proposed system recommends suitable communities to an individual user based on his or her personal preferences. As a result, DLs can play a role as a computer-supported collaborative learning space in order to provide more plentiful and useful information to users. In addition, this study demonstrates that DLs can be effectively expanded by using Web-Services techniques and Case-based Reasoning

This study proposed the integrating architecture of knowledge information systems using intelligent agent. We analyzed the basic architecture of e-Learning system and digital library. We also classified the modules that can effectively integrate the each function of e-Learning and digital library. Through these analysis and classification, we designed the integrating architecture of e-Learning with digital library. We also described the roles and structures based on intelligent agent to be unified between e-Learning system and digital library. Especially, we proposed the integrating strategies of user modeling and learning metadata as the integrating architecture for contents sharing. Furthermore we provided a new integrating model for contributing the knowledge enlargement and the mutual prosperity between e-Learning and digital library.

This study proposed the system for collecting the learning contents using the mobile agent in e-learning and m-learning. The mobile agent in wireless environment can provide the flexible works through a network and collect the adequate learning contents according to the learner?s request. Moreover, the mobile agent can reduce the communication expenses. In this study, we proposed the CAS system that the mobile agent intellectually collected the appropriate learning contents in wireless learning. We used the SCORM-based contents as learning materials. In order to examine the validity of proposed study, we designed and implemented proposed system with mobile agent.

Agent-based conference information management systems are proposed. Three different types of agent-based systems are introduced: single agent, multi agent and mobile agent. They manage the information intelligently and autonomously in Semantic Web using RDF and DAML.

This study has developed Web-based, automated lesson planner system for teachers to make out and make use of lesson plans using ICT (information communication technology). First, the Web-based lesson planner system has been developed to enable teachers to make and use lesson plans on the web. Second, the database of the electronic lesson planner system has been designed and established according to Korean curriculum and form of teaching-learning lesson plan using ICT. Third, the system embodied making out a lesson plan easily and operating all ICT materials together. Last, the system was applied to the real elementary school fields and the efficiency and improvements were analyzed. This lesson planner system made a database of all ICT materials and lesson plans, so that it can manage and control all lesson plans systematically. Also, the lesson plans and ICT materials are connected together, so the database can be a dynamic content storage. The construction of this system established maximization of share, use and storage of teaching-learning lesson plans. It will be popularized in real education fields and made a contribution to the school informatization.

The mobile agent is receiving the attention as a new technique to retrieve and to share the distributed contents on Web-based educational systems. Retrieval using a mobile agent uses the method that delivers the agent to accomplish a search in the direct server. This study proposed the model of a retrieval system that shares and searches the distributed educational contents of the bulletin board and newsgroup by using the mobile agent. In order to evaluate the efficiencies of the system that is proposed, we did the comparison test on the search model of the existing and proposing system. By a test result, we confirmed network traffic of the proposed system are diminished. Moreover we gave proof of the fact that the optimum search time of the mobile agent-based system is shortened.
