This paper describes a flow control of the dye in the paper mill with the quasi-Z-source indirect matrix converter (QZSIMC) fed induction motor drive. More than a decade the voltage-source inverter (VSI) and current-source inverter (CSI) have been used to control the speed of the induction motor, which in turns controls the flow of dye. Recently, the matrix converter (MC) has been an excellent competitor for the VSI or CSI for its compactness. The voltage transfer ratio of the VSI, CSI, and MC has been limited to 0.866. Thus, the efficiency of these converters is less. To improve the voltage transfer ratio the quasi-Z-source network (QZSN) is to be used between voltage source and indirect MC (IMC). The modification in the shoot-through duty ratio of the QZSN varies the voltage transfer ratio greater than 0.866. Different voltage transfer ratios are needed for different voltage sag conditions. For a variation of the duty ratio of the QZSN, the fuzzy logic controller has been presented. To control the IMC vector control with space vector modulation has been presented. This paper proposes the implementation of QZSIMC adjustable speed drive for the flow control of dye in paper mill during different voltage sag conditions. A 4-kW prototype has been built and the effectiveness of the proposed system is verified with simulation results and experimental setup. Simulation is done in MATLAB, Simulink platform. Experimental setup is done with the aid of a TMS320F2812 (Texas Instrument) processor. The experimental results validate the maintenance of the speed of an induction motor at the set condition, thus controlling the perfect flow of dye in paper manufacturing technology. This paper studies the THD and AC losses on the DC cables of offshore wind farm-based multi-terminal HVDC systems when they extract and deliver power from and to more than one connection point. In the paper, the study of a full system PLECS + Simulink model with two branches, including a wind resource, a wind turbine, a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG), a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) rectifier, a Single Active Bridge (SAB) DC–DC converter, an Input Parallel Output Series (IPOS) DC–DC converter, HVDC cables, and a simplified onshore system, is presented. It focuses on the investigation of the output ripple content of multiple DC–DC converters on DC cables under different wind conditions with different voltage and power ratings. The importance of the study is providing a general understanding of the operation of the innovative offshore wind farm-based DC system, as well as the interaction between different DC–DC converters and their influence on cable ripple content under different situations. The phase circulating current (PCC) of the parallel three-phase inverter systems dramatically affects the power quality and conversion efficiency of the power grid. In this paper, a composite suppression strategy is proposed to solve the PCC issue by using the sliding mode control (SMC) approach and improved virtual impedance droop control. Taking the commonly used 2-group parallel three-phase inverter as an example, an inter- and intra-classification model is established by analyzing the sources of PCC. In order to suppress the inter-PCC, the traditional virtual impedance droop control is given, following the improved substitute by combining SMC. And the variables of the bus voltage, Q-U loop, P-f loop, and the virtual-induced reactance are also introduced for the robust control of the impedance droop. On the other side, a SMC-based suppression approach is designed to solve the issue of the intra-PCC. Its idea is to introduce a regulation factor for the space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) so that the zero-sequence voltage can be eliminated and the influence of the intra-PCC can be relieved. Nowadays, transformer-less photovoltaic (PV) multi-level inverters (MLIs) are commonly employed in both industrial and residential settings. This structure has attracted increased attention due to its unique advantages, such as higher efficiency, lower cost and size, better waveform quality, and inherent fault tolerance. However, due to the removal of the transformer, the common mode voltage (CMV) becomes one of the crucial issues in transformer-less PV MLIs. The high-frequency variation in CMV results in a leakage current that deteriorates the line current quality, increases the PV power system losses, leads to severe electromagnetic emissions (EMI), reduces the PV array lifespan, and causes personal safety problems. In this regard, this paper presents a review of the existing and recent research on modulation techniques based on space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWMs) that overcome this issue in transformer-less three-level NPC-MLIs (3L-NPC-MLIs). The reduced CMV-SVPWM (RCMV-SVPWM) can be mainly categorized as an RCMV-SVPWM based on the vector type, based on virtual vectors, and based on the two-level SVPWM (2L-SVPWM). Their features and their limitations in terms of several main criteria are discussed. In the final section of this paper, some challenges and future trends for this research area are projected. Cascaded H-bridge inverters, which belong to strongly nonlinear time-varying system with complex dynamics, have been widely used in high-voltage and high-power engineering fields. In this paper, a carrier phase-shifted sinusoidal pulse-width modulation cascaded H-bridge inverter is taken as an example with piecewise analysis to establish the discrete iterative mathematical model. Furthermore, the nonlinear dynamic behavior of this inverter system is investigated using folding diagrams, spectrum diagrams, bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponents, etc. We find that this inverter can exhibit multiperiod bifurcation, tangential bifurcation and paroxysmal chaos within certain ranges of control coefficients and other circuit parameters, which will influence the system's stability seriously. On the basis of this discovery, the sinusoidal time-delay feedback control method is proposed. The difference between the load current of the controlled object and its own delay is used to form a feedback term, which is then fed into the sine function and proportional link to obtain the control term. Moreover, the Jacobian matrix of this feedback inverter system is derived, and the constraints on the feedback control coefficient are obtained based on the Jury criterion. Simulation results have verified the effectiveness of such a sinusoidal time-delay feedback control method, which can improve the stability and anti-interference of the system. The traction converter modulation generates switching-frequencies current harmonics. The trapped filters can eliminate these switching harmonics, reducing total inductance and filter size. Nonetheless, in comparison with the typical inductor-capacitor-inductor (LCL) filter, the trap inductor needs a larger magnetic core. Moreover, the trapped filter has not been analyzed in the traction systems. This paper proposes a magnetic integrated inductor-trap-inductor (LLCL) filter to decrease the filter's size and investigate its application in traction converters. In fact, the application range of this filter is quite broad, and it can be used in various electrical power systems, including industrial power systems, renewable energy systems, transportation systems, and building power systems. The LC-trap may be formed by connecting the equivalent trap inductor, introduced through the magnetic coupling between inverter-side and grid-side inductors, in series with the filter capacitor. Furthermore, for H-bridge unipolar pulse width modulation (PWM) traction converters, the prominent switching harmonics are concentrated at the double switching frequencies. Therefore, the stability zone is expanded by moving the resonance above the Nyquist frequency. The presented filter's features and design are thoroughly analyzed. The proposed method is finally validated by the MATLAB/Simulink simulation and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) experimental results. Compared to the discrete windings, the integrated ones can save two magnetic cores. In PMSM drive systems, sensor-less vector control of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) over the entire speed range poses considerable challenges. Through the design and simulation of the sensor-less vector control system of PMSM, this paper proposes a novel method for sensor-less field-oriented control (FOC) for PMSM applications. To solve this intricate control problem, FOC combines gh-reference frame space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) with cubature Kalman filter (CKF). Implementing CKF to estimate rotor position and speed accurately provides the basis for this sensor-less control technique. Furthermore, the integrated control system using gh-SVPWM aims to reduce controller board computing resources utilization while minimizing torque ripple and stator current harmonic distortion. The effectiveness of CKF-based sensor-less FOC integrated with gh-SVPWM is verified in various operating environments using an extensive simulation and experimental framework, confirming its potential to enhance PMSM driving performance and efficiency in different applications. This paper presents a novel jitter reduction technique for a voltage-controlled ring oscillator (VCRO). This technique is helpful in employing VCRO-based circuits like Analog to Digital Converter (ADC), Phase Locked Loop (PLL) and time-based circuits whose performance is severely degraded by high jitter. In the proposed technique, the jitter is extracted using Excess Phase Discrimination (EPD) block and is transformed into Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal, which is then fed into the Phase Compensator (PC) block. This block reduces the jitter by about half its value after enabling the Single Ended Injection Locking (SEIL). The proposed work is designed in SCL 180 nm CMOS technology at 1.8 V supply. On enabling the proposed circuit, the Root Mean Square (RMS) jitter reduces from 5.94 to 2.58 ps (about 56%) for VCRO running at 58 MHz and consumes a total power of 375.84 μ W. Nonlinear loads, crucial components of power system grids, pose a challenge due to harmonics injection. This work tackles this issue with a novel modified green plug–switched filter compensation scheme using fuzzy logic controllers. This innovative scheme presented in this paper utilizes dual action pulse width modulation to ensure switching functions from harmonics reduction and capacitive compensation for inrush nonlinear-type AC loads. The scheme's multi-loop regulations and online switching effectively handle dynamic-type slow-acting inrush, motorized- and other rectifier-type nonlinear loads, enhancing the power factor, power quality at source and load buses, and reducing the total harmonics distortion at the key source and sensitive nonlinear load buses. A simulation model in the MATLAB/SIMULINK-2023b software environment demonstrates the efficiency of the proposed FACTS technique. The modulated dual mode switched filter-capacitive compensation scheme controlled by a fuzzy logic controller ensures less harmonics distortion and improved voltage stabilization. The results show that voltage, current, active power, reactive power, power factor regulation, and effective energy utilization are achievable with the designed Flexible AC Transmission System-Modulated Filter Capacitor Compensation–Switched Filter Compensator (FACTS-MFCC-SFC). Due to the interaction of accumulated charges on the surface of a test mass with the surrounding electric and magnetic fields, the performance of inertial sensors is affected, necessitating charge management for the test mass. Discharge technology based on Ultraviolet LEDs is internationally recognized as the optimal solution for charge management. Precision driving of Ultraviolet LEDs is considered a key technology in charge management. This paper presents the driving control system used for Ultraviolet LEDs, achieving precision pulse-width-modulation-type current output with controllable pulse width and amplitude. The system generates the pulse-width-controllable pulse voltage signal via analog pulse-width modulation, and subsequently regulates the amplitude of the PWM signal through range switching. To convert the voltage into the pulse-width-modulation-type driving current, the improved Howland current source is employed. The test results demonstrate that the driving control system can output controllable current in the range of 0.01 mA to 10 mA, with a minimum step of 0.01 mA. The accuracy of the current reaches 1%, the stability within 1 h is better than 1%, and the load regulation is better than 2%. The AC battery utilizing second-life time batteries has gained great interest currently with the advantages of both power solutions and economic benefits. In this system, the power converters play a crucial role in the stable and effective operation of the system. This paper focused on the AC/DC stage with the chosen topology being the interleaved full bridge (IFB) converter due to its flexibility and the ability to increase the power rate of the system. For the sake of high-performance operation, various pulse width modulation (PWM) methods for this converter are analyzed. First, based on the theory of the traditional PWM methods for a full bridge inverter in combination with the interleaved technique, this paper proposed three interleaved PWM methods for the IFB converter. Secondly, the proposed methods are theoretically compared in terms of the output current, common-mode voltage, and power losses. To ensure that a variable-rate spray (VRS) system can perform unmanned aerial spray in accordance with a prescription map at different flight speeds, we examine in this paper such significant factors as the response time of the VRS system and the pressure fluctuation of the nozzle during the variable-rate spraying process. The VRS system uses a lag compensation algorithm (LCA) to counteract the droplet deposition position lag caused by the system response delay. In addition, pulse width modulated solenoid valves are used for controlling the flowrates of the nozzles on the variablerate spray system, and a mathematical model was constructed for the spray rate (L min-1) and the relative proportion of time (duty cycle) each solenoid valve is open. The pressure drop and solenoid valve response time at different duty cycles (50~90%) were measured by indoor experiments. Meanwhile, the lag distance (LD), spray accuracy, and droplet deposition characteristics of the VRS system were tested by conducting outdoor experiments at different flight speeds (4m s-1, 5m s-1, 6m s-1). The results show that LCA can effectively reduce the LD. The LD values of the VRS system with LCA ranged from -0.27 to 0.78m with an average value of 0.32m, while without LCA, the LD values increased to 3.5~4.3m with an average value of 3.87m. The overall spray position accuracy was in the range of 91.56~97.32%. Furthermore, the spray coverage and deposition density, determined using water sensitive paper, were used to evaluate the spray application performance taking into account the spray volume applied. The VRS system can provide the most suitable spray volumes for insecticide and fungicide plant protection products. To propel us toward a greener and more resilient future, it is imperative that we adopt renewable sources and implement innovative sustainable solutions in response to the escalating energy crisis. Thus, renewable energies have emerged as a viable solution to the global energy crisis, with photovoltaic energy being one of the prominent sources in this regard. This paper represents a significant step in the desired direction by focusing on detailed, comprehensive dynamic modeling and efficient control of photovoltaic (PV) systems as grid-connected energy sources. The ultimate goal is to enhance system reliability and ensure high power quality. The behavior of the suggested photovoltaic system is tested under varying sun radiation conditions. The PV system is complemented by a boost converter and a three-phase pulse width modulation (PWM) inverter, with MATLAB software employed for system investigation. This research paper enhances photovoltaic (PV) system performance through the integration of model-predictive control (MPC) with a high-gain DC–DC converter. It improves maximum power point tracking (MPPT) efficiency in response to the variability of solar energy by combining MPC with the traditional incremental conductance (IN-C) method. Additionally, the system incorporates a DC–AC converter for three-phase pulse width modulation, which is also controlled by predictive control technology supported by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to further enhance performance. PSO was selected due to its capability to optimize complex systems and its proficiency in handling nonlinear functions and multiple variables, making it an ideal choice for improving MPC control performance. Currently, power trains based on an Open-End Winding Induction Machine fed by a Dual Inverter (DI-OEWIM) are attracting a great deal of interest in various modern industrial applications. However, applying symmetrical control to this system (DI-OEWIM), which is symmetrical in nature, will lead to malfunction. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to explore the influence of asymmetric control on the performance of this system. The principle of this study is to create an asymmetrical control by integrating a phase-shift angle in the Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) strategy. We then evaluate the impact of these angles on various performances, such as the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), power losses, Common Mode Voltage (CMV), Zero-Sequence Voltage (ZSV), rotation speed and torque ripple of this system. This study was carried out in the Matlab/Simulink environment and was validated experimentally using the dSPACE 1104 board. Electrically powered rail transport is constantly increasing in order to meet the high demand for people and cargo transportation, whether with high-speed trains, subways, suburban trains, or electric tramways. In these types of applications, power electronics solutions such as integrated and efficient converters with multiple functionalities are highly desirable. Among these converters, one family stands out for its ability to generating multiple output terminals with reduced number of switches, namely, the nine-switch converter. Therefore, this paper proposes a multiport converter solution based on the nine-switch converter topology that integrates multiple functionalities with a reduced switch count. The converter, responsible for the power drive of the electric tramway, is exclusively powered by a battery. Moreover, it presents a strategically connected passive filter that provides a low-impedance path for high-frequency currents, avoiding leakage of the current circulation in the induction motor. Its phase-shift pulse-width modulation is capable of reducing the high-frequency components of the current delivered by the battery. The energy storage system is designed to optimize the system capacity based on the known real load profile of a public tramway, with a maximum power of 532.1 kW. The control system is designed and applied considering the battery as the energy source. Simulations were performed in the Matlab/Simulink environment to validate the proposed system, along with experiments using a reduced-scale prototype controlled by the dSPACE platform. The results present the converter's proper operation with integration of the source and AC load, presenting improved features compared with conventional solutions in terms of reduced leakage of the current circulation from the AC load and reduced battery current ripple. This paper investigates the development of pulse width modulation (PWM) schemes for three-phase quasi-Z-source inverters (qZSIs). These inverters are notable for their voltage boost capability, built-in short-circuit protection, and continuous input current, making them suitable for low-voltage-fed applications like photovoltaic or fuel cell-based systems. Despite their advantages, qZSIs confront challenges such as increased control complexity and a larger number of passive components compared to traditional voltage source inverters (VSIs). In addition, most existing PWM schemes for qZSIs lack the capability for independent control of the amplitude modulation index and duty cycle, which is essential in closed-loop applications. This study introduces innovative space-vector PWM (SVPWM) schemes, addressing issues of independent control, synchronization, and unintentional short-circuiting in qZSIs. It evaluates several established continuous and discontinuous PWM schemes, and proposes two novel decoupled SVPWM-based schemes that integrate dead time and in which the shoot-through occurrence is synchronized with the beginning of the zero switching state. These novel schemes are designed to reduce switching losses and improve qZSI controllability. Experimental validation is conducted using a custom-developed electronic circuit board that enables the implementation of a range of PWM schemes, including the newly proposed ones. The obtained results indicate that the proposed PWM schemes can offer up to 6.8% greater efficiency and up to 7.5% reduced voltage stress compared to the closest competing PWM scheme from the literature. High-performance overmodulation strategies for voltage source inverters (VSIs) can further broaden the operation range of machines. Among them, Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) is worth researching as it performs well in digital implementation. This paper presents a detailed comparison of various SVPWM overmodulation strategies and analysis of their performance. It firstly briefly elaborates fundamental laws of two subspaces of five-phase VSIs. Then, it focuses on several overmodulation strategies. Their corresponding basic principles and main characteristics are researched, and conclusions are given. In addition, differences and relationships between them are proved and summarized. Lastly, comparative simulations and experiments were carried out and verify that in the overmodulation region, the output voltage distortion degree increases with the increase in modulation ratio, and strategies with more control degrees of freedom (CDFs) are capable of better controlling the third harmonic subspace, which means that higher-quality output voltage waveforms would be obtained. The paper proposes a nonlinear controller called dual super-twisting sliding mode command (DSTSMC) for controlling and regulating the rotor side converter (RSC) of multi-rotor wind power systems that use doubly-fed induction generators. It was proposed that this controller be developed as an alternative to the direct power control (DPC), which makes use of a pulse width modulation (PWM) strategy to regulate the RSC's functioning. Overcoming the power/current quality issue with the proposed technique (DPC-DSTSMC-PWM) is characterized by great robustness and excellent performance. The designed strategy was contrasted with the standard method of control and other methods already in use. So, the unique proposed control strategy's robustness, performance, efficiency, and efficacy in enhancing system characteristics were tested and validated in Matlab/Simulink. In both tests, the proposed method resulted in significant improvements, reducing active power ripples by 83.33%, 57.14%, and 48.57% in the proposed tests. When compared with the traditional regulation method, the reduction rates of reactive power ripples are 64.06%, 52.47%, and 68.7% in the tests. However, in contrast to the conventional method, the proposed tests showed a decrease of between 72.46%, 50%, and 76.22% in the value of total harmonic distortion (THD) of the provided currents. The silicon carbide (SiC) inverter brings great advantages to the motor drive systems of new energy vehicles; however, severe challenges to the bearings also happen. The high dc bus voltage and switching frequency of SiC inverter can increase the discharge frequency and energy when the bearing grease film collapses. As a result, the bearing suffers severe electric corrosion, and the service life of the motor drive system can be shortened. In this paper, the characteristics of common-mode voltage and bearing voltage are analyzed, firstly under space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM). After that, the common-mode equivalent circuit model of the motor drive system is established. The frequency characteristics of bearing voltage are revealed, and the safe working area is determined. Then, the frequency characteristics of bearing voltage and current are verified based on IGBT and SiC inverters in experiments. After that, by designing a common-mode filter, the bearing voltage and current are significantly attenuated. Furthermore, the active zero state PWM (AZSPWM) is adopted to reduce the common-mode voltage from the inverter. At the same time, combined with the common-mode filter, the bearing voltage and current are further reduced. The experimental results show that the switching frequency has a decisive effect on the amplitude of bearing voltage and current. The bearing voltage can be attenuated to around half of the reference bearing voltage by using the common-mode filter and AZSPWM strategy, respectively. The combination of the common-mode filter and AZSPWM strategy can reduce the bearing voltage to around one-fourth of the reference bearing voltage, which can effectively reduce the breakdown time and discharge energy of the grease oil film. A single-inductor multiple-input multiple-output converter is proposed in this paper that can be used in low-power systems due to low output current and voltage. This converter is implemented discretely, and only one microcontroller is employed to control the system. The unique zero-current switching (ZCS) technique considered in this paper is such that only by reading the inductor's left-side voltage the optimal value of the inductor discharge duty cycle is determined. This method can be generalized to low-power and high-power converters, whether implemented and designed as discrete or integrated. This converter works in discontinuous conduction mode. It uses pulse width modulation control and the time-multiplexing control method, which makes the system have high efficiency and makes the cross-regulation problem between the converter's outputs tiny. The control algorithm considered in this converter is digital, which determines the optimal charge and discharge duty cycles. Also, the switching frequency of this converter is constant, relatively low, and equal to 5 kHz. This paper presents a novel methodology for the design of the Space Vector (SV) switching sequences in order to reduce the output voltage distortion and the common‐mode voltage (CMV) without increasing the number of commutations in comparison to conventional and optimised techniques presented in the literature. Three spaces can be distinguished in a converter, referring to: line‐to‐line voltages, phase voltages and switching states. Consequently, three correspondent sequences of vectors in each space can be verified. The output voltage distortion, CMV and switching count are mainly affected, respectively, by the sequences in the line‐to‐line voltage, phase voltage and switching state spaces. However, the three spaces are interdependent, and the selection of a sequence in one space affects the ones in the other spaces. As a consequence, this paper presents a novel SV approach, where the line‐to‐line voltage sequences are selected over a fundamental period horizon considering the impact in the phase voltages through an algebraic analysis, assuring minimal phase voltage transitions while using VIKOR method to choose the best trade‐off between reduction of output voltage distortion and CMV. This paper introduces a new high-step-up, non-isolated switched-inductor switched-capacitor DC-DC converter. The proposed converter remarkably integrates switched-capacitor and switched-inductor cells, leading to a significant increase in voltage gain. This unique composite structure not only ensures the continuity of input current, but also successfully minimizes the current ripple and voltage stress across the components, thereby optimizing efficiency. The standout feature of this converter is its singular switch controlled by pulse-width modulation (PWM), which simplifies its operation. A rigorous steady-state operation analysis is conducted, providing a comprehensive understanding of the converter's performance. Nowadays, multilevel inverter (MLI)-based induction heating (IH) technology is the best-suited option in many domestic, commercial and medicinal applications because of its higher efficiency, low cost, fast heating and lower electromagnetic interference (EMI). This paper presents reduced components count high-frequency (HF) single phase five-level (5-L) MLI for IH applications. The working methodology of the proposed system has been analyzed in the multicarrier phase disposition pulse width modulation (MC-PD-PWM) method in high switching frequency i.e., 10 kHz. In addition, the proposed topology can produce output voltage twice of input voltage without any external source. Moreover, the detailed power loss and reliability analysis have been evaluated for the proposed system. In terms of switch count and efficiency, the single-phase 5-L inverter architecture is compared to some conventional and current topologies. In order to effectively mitigate the issue of frequent fluctuations in the output power of a PV system, this paper proposes a working mode for PV and energy storage battery integration. To address maximum power point tracking of PV cells, a fuzzy control-based tracking strategy is adopted. The principles and corresponding mathematical models are analyzed for the three-phase voltage PWM converter and bidirectional DC/DC converter, while feedforward decoupling double closed loop, constant power (PQ), and constant voltage charge/discharge control strategies are proposed. Space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) technology is utilized to generate power switching tube driver signals. Finally, a simulation model is developed in MATLAB/Simulink for system analysis. The results demonstrate that the proposed method enables constant grid-connected power generation and constant voltage charging of the energy storage battery when the PV cell's power generation exceeds that of the grid. Due to its advantages, the asymmetrical dual three-phase induction motor drive is a strong choice in high-power applications. However, the common-mode voltage produced by the voltage source inverters affects the winding insulation and damages the bearings. Common-mode voltage is also responsible for electromagnetic interference and leakage currents. This paper, therefore, analyses the common-mode voltage produced by the inverter supplying a dual three-phase induction motor drive and proposes a novel modified space vector decomposition-based Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) technique for common mode reduction. The vector space decomposition-based space vector modulation technique offers excellent flexibility as it reduces the common-mode voltage (CMV) by exploiting the additional degree of freedom in a dual three-phase system. The common-mode voltage (CMV) can be reduced to one-sixth of the DC link voltage compared to the highest CMV, i.e. half of the DC-link voltage produced in conventional space vector modulation. Three-level NPC inverters have been widely used in grid-connected systems due to their superior performance compared with two-level inverters, but more switches lead to high fault probability. Meanwhile, the neutral point potential (NPP) fluctuation of the DC link is an inherent problem of three-level NPC inverters. To keep the three-level NPC inverter running stably after single-arm failure, a fault-tolerant control strategy based on an optimised space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the common-mode voltage (CMV) of the postfault three-level NPC inverter is analysed and then the preliminary synthesis principles of the reference voltage vector are determined. Then, in order to ensure the NPP balance and the quality of the grid-connected currents, the reference voltage vector synthesis rules are optimised, a low-pass filter (LPF) and a hysteresis comparator are designed, respectively, to ensure the quality of grid-connected currents and effectively decrease the DC link NPP deviation. Finally, the simulation results show that the proposed fault-tolerant control strategy can realize the stable and reliable operation of the grid-connected three-level NPC inverter after single-arm failure, and the CMV can be reduced significantly, the quality of grid-connected currents is also improved. As a power converter of battery energy storage, the multi-level converter and its battery balancing control have received much attention from scholars. This paper focuses on the modular multi-level half-bridge energy storage converter (MMH-ESC), including its topology, working principle, and pulse width modulation (PWM) methods. Under the battery balancing control strategy based on level-shifted carrier PWM (LS-PWM), formulas are derived and calculations are performed to get the charge or discharge of each submodule (SM), thereby obtaining the tolerance for capacity differences among these batteries. A range of battery capacity values that can maintain a balanced state is provided to enhance flexibility in battery configuration and utilization, avoiding the limitation of all batteries to the same capacity. Finally, a new bridge arm modulation wave allocation method is proposed. This method significantly expands the range of SM battery capacity selection and provides a high-tolerance modulation method for the converter under extreme or even fault conditions. This paper investigates the influence of a constant carrier phase shift on the DC-link capacitor harmonic current of cascaded converters used in fuel-cell and mild-hybrid electric vehicles. In these applications, a DC-DC converter can be adopted between the battery and the motor drive inverter in a cascaded structure, where the two converters share the same DC-link. Since the DC-link capacitor of such a system represents a critical component, the optimization of the converter operation to limit the current stress and extend the lifetime of the capacitor is an primary objective. This paper proposes the use of a carrier phase shift between the modulations of the two converters in order to minimize the harmonic current of the DC-link capacitor. By harmonic analysis, an optimal carrier phase shift can be derived depending on the converter configuration. Analytical results are presented and validated by hardware-in-the-loop experiments. The findings show that the pulse width modulation carrier phase shift between the interleaved boost converter and the voltage source motor drive inverter has a significant influence on the DC-link capacitor current and thus on its lifetime. In this paper, a soft-switched three-phase resonant converter with a low quality factor (Q) design is proposed for Photovoltaic (PV) energy harvesting systems with a very wide range of operating conditions. Due to the low quality factor (Q ≤ 1), the voltage stress across the capacitors is drastically reduced. However, a major challenge of using a low Q design is the wide switching frequency range required for operation over a wide range of load and input conditions. In order to reduce the switching frequency range, this paper introduces a hybrid modulation technique employing asymmetric pulse width modulation (APWM) along with variable frequency modulation. The proposed modulation scheme also substantially extends the soft-switching range of the converter from full-load upto 10–35% load condition over a wide range of line voltages. To sustain soft-switching in the entire operating region of the converter, the converter is operated in a hybrid structure with single-phase and burst modes at light load conditions. A comprehensive time-domain analysis of the proposed converter is presented, which greatly improves accuracy over conventional frequency-domain modeling. Nine-leg voltage source inverters (VSIs) are highly effective topologies for high-power industrial applications. In this paper, a novel space vector with pulse-width modulation (SVPWM) approach for a nine-leg VSI fed three-star induction machines (TSIMs) is proposed. In fact, for nine-leg VSI fed TSIM, large stator harmonic currents are observed in the case of a 30° electrical shift between stator stars. The main objective of this paper is to minimize the circulation of these harmonics on (x-y) and (z–w) planes by developing a new SVPWM strategy for the nine-leg VSI. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy in terms of reducing the stator harmonic currents and electromagnetic torque ripple on the topology is, firstly, verified by computer simulations at different levels of the modulation index. The obtained results show that a compromise between the proposed technique and the proper choice of the modulation index provides high performance of the topology. On the other hand, an experimental test on a laboratory prototype of the nine-leg VSI fed TSIM shifted by 30° is carried out using a Virtex 5 LX50T FPGA. This study presents the characteristics and performance of a motor at the operating point based on pulse-width modulation (PWM). PWM is used in modulating the output voltage of a three-phase inverter. The PWM technique has advantages and disadvantages depending on the system size and operating range. For example, some discontinuous pulse-width modulation (DPWM) techniques are advantageous in low-cost systems because they can reduce the number of switches. Some PWM techniques are complicated for software construction and require a lot of computation. In this paper, PWM techniques were constructed by using the offset voltage injection method. Therefore, the construction of the PWM technique is simplified by the method. In an experimental setup, an interior permanent-magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) and a three-phase inverter were implemented to test motor control performance depending on the PWM technique. In addition, the current control characteristics and inverter efficiency were analyzed and compared depending on the speed and load of the motor. According to the results of this paper, it is possible to compare the motor and inverter control characteristics using various types of PWM rapidly. This paper revisits loss model control (LMC) of the 3‐phase induction motor (IM) and presents a robust LMC algorithm for medium‐sized pump drives. Compared with other power loss reduction algorithms for IM, the presented one has the advantages of fast and smooth flux adaptation, high accuracy, and versatile implementation. An improved loss‐model for IM drive has been developed. The model considers the surplus power loss caused by inverter voltage harmonics and magnetic saturation using closed‐form equations. Further, the resistance‐temperature change is considered by a first‐order thermal model. To determine the optimal flux level that achieves maximum drive efficiency, an artificial neural network (ANN) controller is synthesised and trained offline. The voltage and speed control loops are connecting via the stator frequency to avoid the possibility of excessive magnetization. Beside, the obtained thermal information enhances motor protection and control. These together have the potential of making the proposed algorithm robust and reliable. The system reliability is investigated and assessed in terms of energy saving using ramp start/stop. Theoretical analysis, computer simulations, and experimental studies are performed on 5.5 kW variable speed water pump using the proposed control. In this paper, Fast space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) and a switching structure based on sliding mode control (SMC) and active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) are proposed to improve the dynamic performance and restrain the disturbance of the offshore permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) wind power system. According to the known or unknown system states and the types of disturbance, the control systems switch to the different controller to overcome the unknown states and disturbances effects. Compared to the traditional SVPWM algorithm, the fast SVPWM algorithm has more strong function of pulse modulation and harmonic wave restraints, and shortens the data processing time. In this paper, a bidirectional grid-tied ZVS three-phase converter is proposed. The circuit operation principle in both the rectifier and inverter modes was analyzed. The proposed topology could achieve zero-voltage switching in the six main switches and the auxiliary switch both in the rectifier mode and inverter mode. In addition, the reverse recovery current of body diodes in the main switches was also suppressed. Furthermore, in order to realize the ZVS control scheme under the grid-tied bidirectional power flow condition and reduce the number of switchings, a modified carrier-based discontinuous PWM was proposed to fit the bidirectional switching sequence. The commutation torque ripple adversely affects the performance of the six-phase inverter of the BLDC motor with trapezoidal back EMF and creates vibration and noise for industrial applications. In this paper, the motor model is obtained in non-commutation times and during the commutation period, and according to that, a suitable method to reduce the torque ripple, by equalizing the slope of the current disconnected from the motor and the slope of the current connected to the motor during commutation, is presented. At low speeds, torque ripple is reduced using predictive pulse width modulation technique. With this method, the duty cycle of the switch involved in the commutation is predicted and applied to the switch during the commutation intervals. At high speeds, this reduction is done using quasi z-source converter and selector circuit. The quasi z-source converter and the selector circuit increase the input voltage of the inverter during commutation intervals and increase its value to four times the back EMF voltage of the motor, thus reducing the torque ripple at high speeds. The limiter in grid-connected inverter control may cause sustained oscillation in the system. The large-signal impedance model is provided since the traditional small-signal impedance model cannot accurately describe the characteristics of the limiter. In this paper, there are three established large-signal impedance models of grid-connected inverters that take into account the limiter in the phase-locked loop (PLL), the limiter in the current control loop and the limiter in the pulse width modulation (PWM). Based on the established models, the influences of these different limiters on the output impedance characteristics of the grid-connected inverter are discussed. Furthermore, the stability of the system considering the influence of different limiters is analyzed and the oscillation frequency and amplitude of the system are predicted. Module-level power electronics can optimize the power generation of photovoltaic panels, which requires a simple topology structure, high power conversion efficiency, and wide voltage gain, corresponding to irradiance variations. This paper proposes a non-isolated current-fed L-C series resonant converter and its control algorithms. The proposed converter can obtain a buck–boost voltage gain with the hybrid control algorithm utilizing the switching frequency modulation and asymmetric pulse width modulation. AC regenerative electric drives (AC REDs) are widely used in metallurgical rolling due to their reliability, efficiency, and power sufficient to maintain the process. This paper reviews the latest achievements in building the grid connection circuits for the main AC REDs of rolling mills. The paper discusses multipulse connection circuits formed by various transformer types and algorithms for preprogrammed pulse-width modulation with selective harmonic elimination technique (PPWM with SHE) of three-level active front ends (AFE), provides the theoretical and practical measurement results, and gives recommendations for improving existing systems. For 6-, 12-, and 18-pulse grid connection circuits, switching patterns of AFE semiconductor modules with a smooth downward trend within the modulation index range from 0.7 to 1.15 are provided. A simulation was performed under comparable conditions on simulation models in the Matlab/Simulink to objectively evaluate the performance and opportunities of 6-, 12-, and 18-pulse grid connection circuits, including the three-level AFE and transformer specifications. The waveforms and spectra of the grid currents and transformer secondary winding phase currents are shown; total harmonic distortion (THD) factors have been calculated up to the 60th harmonic for various PPWM with SHE patterns. The results of simulation and experimental measurement on operating equipment have been compared. The paper is expected to provide a broad overview of multipulse connection circuits of the rolling mill's main AC REDs, in particular, identify the latest solutions capable of significantly improving their electromagnetic compatibility with the grid. Photovoltaic (PV) energy systems have found diverse applications in fulfilling the increasing energy demand worldwide. Transformer-less PV inverters convert the DC energy from PV systems to AC energy and deliver it to the grid through a non-isolated connection. This paper proposes a new transformer-less grid-connected PV inverter. A closed-loop control scheme is presented for the proposed transformer-less inverter to connect it with the power grid. The proposed transformer-less inverter reduces extra leakage current and holds the common-mode voltage at a constant point. To eliminate extra leakage current, as well as achieve constant common-mode voltage, a midpoint clamping method is utilized to operate the inverter. The proposed transformer-less inverter is formed of seven insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) employing a unipolar sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) technique for switching purposes. An LCL filter is employed to reshape the two-level inverter output voltage and current to obtain closer sinusoidal waveforms. The output voltage and current total harmonic distortion (THD) of the proposed transformer-less inverter were found to be 1.25% and 0.94%, respectively, in the grid-connected mode. The leakage current elimination mechanism with the proposed transformer-less inverter is deeply analyzed in this paper. This paper proposes the design of a controller using the artificial neural network (ANN) for a solar photovoltaic (PV)-fed cascaded multilevel inverter (CMLI) to enhance the power quality. The objective of this presented ANN controller is to obtain a maximum output voltage with no filter components. This paper also investigates and eliminates the voltage harmonics that occurred in a solar-fed cascaded 3-stage inverter using various techniques such as pulse width modulation (PWM), digital logic control (DLC), fuzzy logic controller (FLC), and ANN, and the results are compared. Based on the results, the proposed ANN-based controller efficiently reduces harmonics and improves the power quality. This is achieved by solving the harmonic equations and thereby changing the switching angles of each semiconductor to a minimum value. The ANN is trained by a dataset consisting of varying input voltage and switching angles. The simulation was performed using MATLAB/Simulink for different types of controllers like PWM, DLC, FLC, and ANN for the 3-stage inverter. This paper presents a non-isolated single switch converter with high voltage gain. Its circuit topology is combined with coupled-inductor, clamp circuit, and voltage lift capacitor techniques. The proposed converter has several advantages: First, the circuit is controlled by only single pulse width modulation (PWM) for the power switch, which keeps the circuit simple. Secondly, the proposed converter is used as a clamping circuit,which let the energy of the leakage inductance can be circulated to the capacitor, so that the voltage spike on the active switch can be suppressed, and improves efficiency. The advantages of three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) H-bridge inverters, such as simple topological structure, low device voltage stress, high equivalent switching frequency, and highly expansible capacity, have made them the preferred choice for inverters matching with medium voltage high-capacity multi-phase open-end winding vessel propulsion motors. To quantitatively evaluate the propulsion motors' harmonics, electromagnetic vibration, and noise caused by pulse-width modulation (PWM) and device dead-time, it is necessary to research the mathematical modeling of pulse-width modulated output voltage harmonics in consideration of dead-time. In this paper, the principle of the phase-disposition PWM method of the 3L-NPC H-bridge inverters was firstly introduced. Then, the analytical models of output voltage harmonics with and without considering the effect of dead-time were established based on the double Fourier series approach and the harmonic distribution of the dead-time effect was accurately characterized. On the basis of the above, the experimental platform was established to verify the proposed analytical model. Simulation and experimental results are consistent with the theoretical analysis in low and high-frequency output voltage harmonics, which proves the correctness and the feasibility of the analytical modeling method researched by this paper. This will provide a theoretical basis for subsequent studies, which include the quantitative analysis and the suppression of output harmonics of the H-bridge inverter considering dead-time. The operation of a voltage source inverter (VSI) depends on its output LC filter and the PWM modulator delay. The VSI model includes serial equivalent resistance based on the resistances of the active inverter bridge transistors, the filter coil winding, and additional PCB elements, such as traces and connectors, in addition to the large equivalent resistances that result from power losses in the coil core and switches. These dynamic power losses depend on the switching frequency and the inverter load. This paper investigates the change in equivalent serial resistance that occurs if the standard Si-MOSFET switches are replaced with wide bandgap (WBG) transistors with correspondingly lower equivalent serial resistance. The paper further investigates how such a change influences the design of the controller, given that replacement of the switches shifts the roots of the closed-loop characteristic equation. Theoretical analyses of the influence of equivalent serial resistance for a multi-input single-output passivity-based controller and a single-input single-output coefficient diagram method are also presented. These analyses are applied to both types of switches. Two methods are used to measure the serial equivalent resistance for a given VSI using Si and WBG switches. The possibility of replacing switches with WBG technology in existing inverters was assessed, and the corresponding controller adjustment that would be required. Open-end winding five-phase induction motor (OeW-5PIM) configuration is used in industrial applications, where minimization in the total harmonic currents and high reliability are needed. The majority of the literature on OeW-5PIM topology discusses field-oriented control and direct torque control in addition to other robust control techniques such as the backstepping approach. This paper focuses on the mathematical and experimental approaches of backstepping control (BSC) and rotor-flux-oriented control (RFOC) for an OeW-5PIM topology. This paper presents a mathematical model of 255 kW grid-connected solar photovoltaic (SPV) system. To study the performance characteristics of the grid-connected SPV system, a new hybrid adaptive grasshopper optimization algorithm with the recurrent neural network (AGO-RNN) control technique was implemented. Furthermore, the power quality at the point of common coupling (PCC) has been studied using the conventional (PSO) and proposed AGO-RNN controllers. The characteristics of the PV system were analyzed under varying environmental (variable irradiance and temperature) conditions considering 3 different cases such as (i) standard test conditions (STC), (ii) variable radiation with constant temperature, and (iii) variable radiation with variable temperature. For each case, the total harmonic distortion (THD) has been calculated using the proposed AGO-RNN control technique, and the results were compared with particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique. The 255 kW PV model is initially developed and connected to a three-level NPC inverter, an MPPT-based perturbation and observation algorithm. Later, the PV model is controlled by an AGO-RNN pulse width modulation (PWM) controller and is then integrated to the main grid at PCC. The main advantage of this technique is exploiting the separate DC-DC converter between the SPV module and the inverter. Finally, the proposed grid-connected SPV system was simulated on MATLAB for analyzing the performance of the system based on its I-V and P-V characteristics, inverter voltage, grid power, gird voltage, grid current, power factor, and THD under different environmental conditions. The simulation results demonstrate that the current magnitude and THD of the SPVGC system are improved with the cutting-edge AGO-RNN controller compared to PSO in all three different scenarios, and this value is less than 1.6%, which is within the permitted limits of IEC 61727 standards. This paper presents the energy savings achieved by using a particular three-phase permanent-magnet motor drive control strategy in an elevator application. The proposed control methodology, based on a particular variable-amplitude variable-frequency voltage control pattern technique implemented in a permanent-magnet motor, is compared to a standard induction motor elevator case. By adopting appropriate simultaneous changes in the amplitude and frequency of the motor voltage, high speeds can be attained in conjunction with smooth starting and stopping actions involving a reduced supply current during the respective movement of the elevator. In addition, this method exhibits a high power factor with a good driving quality. The control technique introduced achieves the levelling-off of the floor and the group movement of the system using in the programmable memory a speed pattern that is generated targeting proportionality to the position of the lift. In that respect, significant energy savings can be obtained, which, depending on the type of motor implemented, can be up to 30% compared to the conventional techniques. These improvements can be attained with the appropriate handling of the applied pulse width modulation techniques. To improve the static performance, dynamic performance, and current balance of a current-source PWM rectifier with multi-modules, a comprehensive control method with passivity-based control and current balance control is proposed in this paper. Current balance control, which is based on AC voltage sequencing, has the advantages of being easy to implement and not being limited by the number of modules. Mathematical modelling, controller design, and simulation verification were conducted successively, and the results show that the comprehensive control method has a low current impact and high power quality. The paper presents the design of a 50 kW highly efficient reversible three-phase DC–AC inverter involving the most recent silicon carbide metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors, and its experimental validation on a home-made emulator. Highest efficiency in reversible mode, compactness, and thermal enhancement are the targeted objectives that have been achieved. The power converter prototype evaluated on an original pulse width modulation testing-bench is able to emulate the working of the flywheel system. High frequency pulse width modulation switching, speed cycle operating, and thermal losses are evaluated. In addition, an efficiency above 99% for the converter has been attained, enabling robust functioning of the flywheel system emulator to perform specific charging profiles for electric vehicles. In this paper, a single-phase direct pulse width modulation (PWM) buck-boost AC–AC converter is proposed. The proposed converter utilizes a minimum number of semiconductor switches and passive components that decreases the converter power losses and offers high efficiency. It can be operated with simple PWM control and doesn't require soft-commutation strategies. It does not suffer from input source shoot-through and commutation problems. Moreover, it supplies both continuous input and output currents. The common sharing ground of the input and output gives the proposed converter the feature that it can be utilized for voltage sag and swell compensation. A comparison of the proposed converter performance with similar existing converters is presented. Also, detailed circuit analysis, component design guidelines, and simulation results using the MATLAB/Simulink environment are demonstrated. The electronic wedge brake system (EWB) used in the automotive industry is a new structure designed for brake-by-wire systems. This paper proposes a novel EWB system which is mainly composed of a screw-driven wedged inner brake pad, a fixed outer brake pad, a fixed caliper-flexible brake rotor and a hybrid stepper motor. The proposed EWB system does not have a planetary gear set or a ball screw mechanism, it simplified the existing EWB systems. The proposed EWB system is designed to take advantage of the self-interlocking ability of the screw mechanism to hold the brakes with zero-overhauling and the self-energizing ability of the wedge brake pad to reduce the braking effort. In the braking phase, the screw driven wedge inner brake pad forces the flexible rotor against a fixed flat brake pad. The rotor is elastically deformed to make the contact against the fixed pad. Except for the applied force, the friction force between the brake rotor and the wedge pad exerts additional force as the wedge is pulled along the direction of rotation, thus requiring a lower brake actuation force. In this paper, the active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) algorithm is introduced to improve the response ability and stability of the proposed EWB.
