From the perspective of project and paper datasets, research frontier recognition in the field of agricultural resources and the environment using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic extraction model was studied. By combining the wisdom of domain experts to judge the similarities and differences of clustering topics between the two data sources, multidimensional indicators, such as the emerging degree, attention degree, innovation degree, and intersection degree, were comprehensively constructed for frontier identification. The methods for hot research frontiers, emerging research frontiers, extinction research frontiers, and potential research frontiers were proposed. The empirical research in the field of agricultural resources and the environment showed that the "interaction mechanism of plant–rhizosphere–microbial diversity" was a hot research frontier in the years 2016–2021. The themes of "wastewater treatment technology and efficient utilization of water resources", the "value-added utilization of agricultural wastes and sustainable development", the "soil ecological response mechanism under agronomic management measures", and the "mechanism of soil landslide, erosion, degradation and prediction evaluation" were judged as potential research frontiers. The theme of "ecosystems management and pollution control of agricultural and animal husbandry" was recognized as an emerging research frontier. The results confirm that the fusion method of extracting topics from project and paper data, combined with expert intelligence and frontier indicators for fine classification of frontiers, is an optional approach. This study provides strong support for accurately identifying the forefront of scientific research, grasping the latest research progress, efficiently allocating scientific and technological resources, and promoting technological innovation. Numerous policies have been proposed by international and supranational institutions, such as the European Union, to surveil Earth from space and furnish indicators of environmental conditions across diverse scenarios. In tandem with these policies, different initiatives, particularly on both sides of the Atlantic, have emerged to provide valuable data for environmental management such as the concept of essential climate variables. However, a key question arises: do the available data align with the monitoring requirements outlined in these policies? In this paper, we concentrate on Earth Observation (EO) optical data applications for environmental monitoring, with a specific emphasis on ocean colour. In a rapidly changing climate, it becomes imperative to consider data requirements for upcoming space missions. We place particular significance on the application of these data when monitoring lakes and marine protected areas (MPAs). These two use cases, albeit very different in nature, underscore the necessity for higher-spatial-resolution imagery to effectively study these vital habitats. Limnological ecosystems, sensitive to ice melting and temperature fluctuations, serve as crucial indicators of a climate in change. Simultaneously, MPAs, although generally small in size, play a crucial role in safeguarding marine biodiversity and supporting sustainable marine resource management. They are increasingly acknowledged as a critical component of global efforts to conserve and manage marine ecosystems, as exemplified by Target 3 of the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), which aims to effectively conserve 30% of terrestrial, inland water, coastal, and marine areas by 2030 through protected areas and other conservation measures. In this paper, we analysed different policies concerning EO data and their application to environmental-based monitoring. We also reviewed and analysed the existing relevant literature in order to find gaps that need to be bridged to effectively monitor these habitats in an ecosystem-based approach, making data more accessible, leading to the generation of water quality indicators derived from new high- and very high-resolution satellite monitoring focusing especially on Chlorophyll-a concentrations. Charlotte (North Carolina), ISSN 0749-0208. Mangroves are essential to the stability of coastal regions, especially when facing the threat of climate change. However, deforestation, land use changes, and rising sea levels destroy mangrove forests. Based on bibliometric analysis, this paper aims to gain insight into the impact of climate and land use changes on mangroves. By searching Scopus, 534 pieces of literature from 2013 to 2023 were found, and they were analyzed based on bibliometric information and article metadata. Trends and hotspots of the impact of climate and land use changes on mangrove research were explored using VOSviewer software. The results of a network co-occurrence analysis revealed that mangroves, climate change, land use change, blue carbon, and wetlands represent the most popular central areas of study. The results of this paper show that the countries with the greatest number of publications on mangroves and climate and land use changes are the United States, Australia, India, Indonesia, and China. The research findings revealed that remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) are the most recently used technologies to enhance the research field of ecosystem monitoring in mangrove research. Maintaining and increasing carbon sinks through sustainable management of mangrove ecosystems have been a potential priority in climate change and mangrove ecosystem research development. This research highlights trends in the impact of climate and land use changes on mangrove ecosystem research over the past 10 years. Objective: To support the movement in marine fisheries management toward ecosystem‐based fisheries management by exploring ecosystem‐level reference points (ELRPs) as an option for managing fisheries at the ecosystem level. An ELRP is an ecosystem harvest level or indicator with one or more associated benchmarks or thresholds (i.e., targets, limits) to identify, monitor, or maintain desirable ecosystem conditions and functions. Methods: This paper explores the development and implementation of ELRPs in fisheries management to support ecosystem and fisheries sustainability, help identify when ecosystem changes that impact fisheries resources occur, and foster discussions of trade‐offs in management decisions. Result: We organize existing and potential ELRPs into five categories (statistical analysis of nonlinear dynamics and tipping points, ecosystem productivity, ecosystem trophic information, biodiversity, and human dimensions), provide an overview of analytical methods that can estimate ELRP benchmarks, provide examples of where ELRP benchmarks are being used today, and evaluate pros and cons of the different ELRP categories. We also attempt to identify potential next steps for fisheries scientists and managers to further the science, development, and application of ELRPs. Conclusion: Ecosystem‐level reference points can be used as a proactive accountability mechanism to achieve ecosystem objectives and maintain the ecosystem in a preferred operating space or as an early warning that ecosystem‐level changes (e.g., tipping points) could be imminent if current biological and ecological trends in the system continue. Urban green space is a direct way to improve the carbon sink capacity of urban ecosystems. The carbon storage assessment of megacity green spaces is of great significance to the service function of urban ecosystems and the management of urban carbon zoning in the future. Based on multi-period remote sensing image data, this paper used the CASA model and the InVEST model to analyze the spatio-temporal variation and driving mechanism of carbon storage in Shenzhen green space and discussed the applicability of the two models to the estimation of carbon storage in urban green space. The research results showed that, from 2008 to 2022, in addition to the rapid expansion of construction land, the area of green space and other land types in Shenzhen showed a significant decrease trend. The estimation results of the carbon storage model showed that the carbon storage of green space shows a significant trend of reduction from 2008 to 2022, and the reduction amounts are 0.8 × 106 t (CASA model) and 0.64 × 106 t (InVEST model), respectively. The evaluation results of the model show that, in megacities, the spatial applicability of InVEST model is lower than that of CASA model, and the CASA model is more accurate in estimating the carbon storage of urban green space. Acknowledging the critical role of accurate peatland distribution estimation, this paper underscores the significance of understanding and mapping these ecosystems for effective environmental management. Highlighting the importance of precision in estimating peatland distribution, the research aims to contribute valuable insights into ecological monitoring and conservation efforts. Prior studies lack robust validation, and while recent advancements propose machine learning for peatland estimation, challenges persist. This paper focuses on the integration of deep learning into peatland detection, underscoring the urgency of safeguarding these global carbon reservoirs. Results from convolutional neural networks (CNNs) reveal a decrease in the classified peatland area from 8226 km2 in 1999 to 5156 km2 in 2019, signifying a 37.32% transition. Shifts in land cover types are evident, with an increase in estate plantation and a decrease in swamp shrub. Human activities, climate, and wildfires significantly influenced these changes over two decades. Fire incidents, totaling 47,860 from 2000 to 2019, demonstrate a substantial peatland loss rate, indicating a correlation between fires and peatland loss. In 2020, wildfire hotspots were predominantly associated with agricultural activities, highlighting subsequent land cover changes post-fire. The CNNs consistently achieve validation accuracy exceeding 93% for the years 1999, 2009, and 2019. Extending beyond academic realms, these discoveries establish the foundation for enhanced land-use planning, intensified conservation initiatives, and effective ecosystem management—a necessity for ensuring sustainable environmental practices in Indonesian peatlands. Indonesia’s maritime sector plays an important role in its economic growth as one of Southeast Asia’s main powers. The sector that includes fishery, transportation and trade supports over seven million jobs in the region. However, the marine ecosystem of Indonesia is presently facing threats from industrial pollution, harmful fishing methods as well as destruction of marine habitats. Proper marine governance needs to be implemented to ensure that these threats do not hamper Indonesia’s growth. The need for proper management of marine ecosystems is addressed in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations’ set 17 interlinked goals that serve as the new framework for the international development agenda; specifically, in SDG 14. Marine cadastre has emerged as one of the instruments in the act of marine governance. This paper offers a look into how marine cadastre, as a system within marine governance, can contribute to the implementation of SDG 14 in Indonesia. Three SDG 14 targets relating to the management of marine areas have been identified as having the potential for marine cadastre implementation. Anthropogenic habitat loss is widely recognized as a primary environmental concern. By contrast, debates on the effects of habitat fragmentation persist. To facilitate overcoming these debates, here we: (i) review the state of the literature on habitat fragmentation, finding widespread confusion and stigma; (ii) identify consequences of this for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem management; and (iii) suggest ways in which research can move forward to resolve these problems. Confusion is evident from the 25 most‐cited fragmentation articles published between 2017 and 2021. These articles use five distinct concepts of habitat fragmentation, only one of which clearly distinguishes habitat fragmentation from habitat area and other factors ('fragmentation per se'). Stigmatization is evident from our new findings that fragmentation papers are more charged with negative sentiments when compared to papers from other subfields in the environmental sciences, and that fragmentation papers with more negative sentiments are cited more. While most empirical studies of habitat fragmentation per se find neutral or positive effects on species and biodiversity outcomes, which implies that small habitat patches have a high cumulative value, confusion and stigma in reporting and discussing such results have led to suboptimal habitat protection policy. For example, government agencies, conservation organizations, and land trusts impose minimum habitat patch sizes on habitat protection. Given the high cumulative value of small patches, such policies mean that many opportunities for conservation are being missed. Our review highlights the importance of reducing confusion and stigma in habitat fragmentation research. To this end, we propose implementing study designs in which multiple sample landscapes are selected across independent gradients of habitat amount and fragmentation, measured as patch density. We show that such designs are possible for forest habitat across Earth's biomes. As such study designs are adopted, and as language becomes more precise, we expect that confusion and stigma in habitat fragmentation research will dissipate. We also expect important breakthroughs in understanding the situations where effects of habitat fragmentation per se are neutral, positive, or negative, and the reasons for these differences. With the changing demands imposed on forests by human beings, optimizing forest management to fully utilize their multifunctionality has become a priority. Reasonable forest management measures can maintain stable forest ecosystems that fully coordinate the balance between ecological, societal, and economic aspects. As planted forests are the main application scenario of forest management worldwide, it is of great importance to understand the trade-offs between ecosystem functions and their dynamic changes in planted forests. This paper investigates the effects of different management measures on the ecosystem function of Pinus massoniana plantation forests in the subtropics. It examines four different management measures and explores how they impact multiple ecosystem function indexes and the trade-offs between ecosystem functions during forest restoration. The different management measures effectively promoted the studied ecosystem functions, with higher annual growth rates of the integrated functional indices for timber production, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity compared to the control. Over time, the ecosystem function interactions under the different management measures alternated between trade-offs and synergistic. Only the stand with a 65% harvesting intensity and replanting of various native broadleaf species was able to sustain the synergistic relationships among ecosystem functions, and the dominant function trended toward biodiversity. These observations of dynamic changes and interactions in ecosystem functions of Pinus massoniana plantation forests under various management measures will serve as a valuable reference for the sustainable management of these forests in subtropical regions. The inherent dual roles of "follower" and "leader" among ecosystem entrepreneurs inevitably introduce challenges in managing conflicting dependent and independent goals. Ecosystem entrepreneurs' capabilities in conflict goals management directly influence new venture survival and development. This single-case qualitative study explores how ecosystem entrepreneurs develop conflict goals management capabilities through self-regulation, which is not only a unique practical challenge in ecosystem entrepreneurship, but also a cutting-edge topic in current theoretical research. Through research of entrepreneurs in Haier Entrepreneurship Ecosystem, the paper finds: (1) strategic corresponding and mechanism adapting emerge as the two trigger factors enabling ecosystem entrepreneurs to recognize the equilibrium or disequilibrium between conflicting goals; (2) by leveraging self-control, grit, and metacognition, ecosystem entrepreneurs construct decoupling mechanisms for antagonistic goal recognition and coupling mechanisms for synergistic goal recognition; (3) ecosystem entrepreneurs enhance their conflict goals management capabilities by developing both segregative and synergistic management capabilities. Furthermore, this research explores the self-regulation process underlying ecosystem entrepreneurs' conflict goals management behaviors, including environmental interaction perception, conflict goals analysis, and delineation of goal relationships. In recent decades, great research efforts have been made to understand how specific anthropogenic drivers impact coastal marine ecosystems and their services. Nevertheless, we still lack a synthesis of the existing knowledge on single and multiple anthropogenic drivers impacts to coastal marine systems, which is necessary to guide future work.The objective of this paper is to assess the current knowledge on the impacts of anthropogenic drivers and their interactions on coastal marine ecosystem services, with emphasis on abiotic drivers as dissolved nutrients (eutrophication or de‐eutrophication), temperature (warming), pH (acidification) and oxygen (hypoxia). We performed a systematic review of the literature consisting of 164 papers using the PRISMA method (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses). We only include English‐written papers, we exclude non‐English papers to avoid potential errors in representing or interpreting scientific information due to language limitations among the authors.The results show that coastal marine ecosystem service research has largely focused on single drivers, while multiple driver assessments are less common.Assessments partially integrate multiple driver complexity, but they do not consider (1) relations and feedbacks between drivers; 2() social processes dynamics; and (3) temporal and spatial scales.Synthesis and applications. We have reviewed the current scientific knowledge on how human drivers affect coastal marine ecosystem services. We found that understanding the combined effects of different drivers and considering various time and space scales is still a pending issue. Ignoring multiple drivers, their interactions and time and space scales limits our understanding of reality, and results in high levels of uncertainty. This affects policies and actions, as they rely on uncertain information. Thus, incomplete knowledge leads to poor management of coastal ecosystem services. Modeling surface water quality has become crucial in providing better strategies for managing surface water resources, and adequate findings need accurate and geographically dispersed data. Hydrogeological modeling of these data sets is possible using empirically-based models. The other statistical models are also an alternative approach. In this study, a process with maximum probability is considered with the help of machine learning tools (MLT) to have optimized and valid output. The proposed method combines remote sensing and geographic information systems (RS and GIS) and MLT, which are appropriate for the predicament of neither small, large scale, nor long-term simulations. MLT methods such as VAR and ARIMA are developed in the Python programming with Jupyter notebook and tested according to the data in the spatial prediction for surface water quality parameters such as Tr, pH, Ec, TDS, AL, Ca++, NO−3, So, Cl, F−, Fe, and Mg2+ in the Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, India—lower delta part. The delta with susceptible zones was identified using RS and GIS as those areas are prone to direct exposure to surface water contaminants from aquaculture, agricultural runoff, small- and medium-scale businesses, and household trash. Achieving effective surface water management for this ecosystem is critical for regional water management. The geographical information about the concentrations acquired via the RS and GIS was compared to the statistical modeling findings and verified using real-time measurements. MLT modeling seems more realistic than the experimental setting; data from the previous 20 years (2000–2020) were used for modeling, and the predicted values presented in the paper are predicted for the year 2021. The computed R2 value of ranges between 0.75 and 0.96% is recorded with ARIMA, and VAR posted range between 0.56 and 0.75% with the trained and tested data. The findings show the potential for MLT of geographically dispersed hydrogeological data to be used for pollution-free surface water management. From the surface water management perspective, combining RS and GIS and MLT offers an alternate data analysis approach for obtaining quick results utilizing a less laborious process that produces acceptable results. Ecosystems are rapidly degraded by anthropogenic pressures, affecting the provision of ecosystem services. Therefore, it is increasingly important that we can quantify and manage ecosystem services to maintain human well‐being.Many ecosystem services are underpinned by ecosystem functions and processes that are driven by interspecific ecological interactions. Humans then benefit from ecosystem services through socio‐ecological interactions. Therefore, interaction network approaches can provide a unique understanding of ecosystem service flows.In this paper, we assess the current interface between network ecology and ecosystem services, before exploring how work linking these two fields could be enhanced.We emphasise the value of network approaches and explore network methods to improve the assessment and management of ecosystem services. Within this, we highlight the role of local and indigenous knowledge in operationalising network approaches in a useful ecosystem service context. This paper examines the anti-anthropocentric world-building in documentaries that employ aspeculative mode of inquiry and reckon with the ecological crisis. Dubbed speculative documentaries, they move beyond the Griersonian creative treatment of actuality toward a speculative treatment of subjectivity. Understanding their world-building encourages us to place the documentary within the interdisciplinary, multidimensional, and collective undertaking to address the Anthropocene and the increasing climate crisis. Slow Action (2010) imagines the evolution of species and ecosystems when isolated and surrounded by unsuitable habitats envisioning a science fiction future of island biogeography in face of extinction. Truth or Consequences (2020) considers the possible cataclysmic futurity as its present-day setting. It seeks to define the mode of speculative documentary as documentary footage placed into a fictionalized context where, as if it were science fiction, takes what is nascent today and treats it as though it is already happening. Jan Ijäs's documentary series Waste (2016-ongoing) assumes a more-than-human approach to anthropogenic habitats by expanding on the concept of waste and critiquing the devastating human effect on the earth. The results are part ethnographic, part science fiction, offering a space for contemplation on constructed and natural environments that bewail and anticipate Earth's transformation over time. Simple Summary: Managing fish feeding well is important for both making fish farming better and keeping aquatic environments healthy. By looking at the sounds fish make, this study suggests a new way to learn about how they eat. We turn these sounds into pictures and use advanced computer methods to figure out the different ways people eat. Our method uses a strong deep learning model that can correctly group the eating habits of a certain type of fish, which helps us figure out how much and how often they eat. With a 97% success rate, this method shows a lot of promise for better running fish farms and protecting marine ecosystems. In the future, researchers might be able to add more types of data to this method, which could give us even more information about how to farm fish sustainably and manage ecosystems. Understanding the feeding dynamics of aquatic animals is crucial for aquaculture optimization and ecosystem management. This paper proposes a novel framework for analyzing fish feeding behavior based on a fusion of spectrogram-extracted features and deep learning architecture. Raw audio waveforms are first transformed into Log Mel Spectrograms, and a fusion of features such as the Discrete Wavelet Transform, the Gabor filter, the Local Binary Pattern, and the Laplacian High Pass Filter, followed by a well-adapted deep model, is proposed to capture crucial spectral and spectral information that can help distinguish between the various forms of fish feeding behavior. The Involutional Neural Network (INN)-based deep learning model is used for classification, achieving an accuracy of up to 97% across various temporal segments. The proposed methodology is shown to be effective in accurately classifying the feeding intensities of Oplegnathus punctatus, enabling insights pertinent to aquaculture enhancement and ecosystem management. Future work may include additional feature extraction modalities and multi-modal data integration to further our understanding and contribute towards the sustainable management of marine resources. Taxonomic identification of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal spores extracted directly from the field is sometimes difficult because spores are often degraded or parasitized by other organisms. Single-spore inoculation of a suitable host plant allows for establishing monosporic cultures of AM fungi. This study aimed to propagate AM fungal spores isolated from maize soil using single spores for morphological characterization. First, trap cultures were established to trigger the sporulation of AM fungal species. Second, trap cultures were established with individual morphotypes by picking up only one spore under a dissecting microscope and transferring it to a small triangle of sterilized filter paper, which was then carefully inoculated below a root from germinated sorghum seeds in each pot and covered with a sterile substrate. All pots were placed in sunbags and maintained in a plant growth room for 120 days. Spores obtained from single spore trap cultures from each treatment, maize after oats (MO), maize after maize (MM), maize after peas (MP), and maize after soybean (MS), were extracted using the sieving method. Healthy spores were selected for morphological analysis. Direct PCR was conducted by crushing spores in RNAlater and applying three sets of primer pairs: ITS1 ITS4, NS31 AML2, and SSUmcf and LSUmBr. Nucleotide sequences obtained from Sanger sequencing were aligned on MEGA X. The phylogenetic tree showed that the closest neighbors of the propagated AM fungal species belonged to the genera Claroideoglomus, Funneliformis, Gigaspora, Paraglomus, and Rhizophagus. The morphological characteristics were compared to the descriptive features of described species posted on the INVAM website, and they included Acaulospora cavernata, Diversispora spurca, Funneliformis geosporus, Funneliformis mosseae, Gigaspora clarus, Gigaspora margarita, Glomus macrosporum, Paraglomus occultum, and Rhizophagus intraradices. These findings can provide a great contribution to crop productivity and sustainable management of the agricultural ecosystem. Key message: A validation convention can be established for forest management optimization models. It consists of (1) the delivery of face validation, (2) performing at least one other validation technique, and (3) an explicit discussion of how the optimization model fulfills the stated purpose. Validation by potential users or external experts is of high importance. Context: Optimization modeling has long assisted the management of forest ecosystems, but the credibility of these models has always been debated with criticisms concerning data quality, failures to include relevant processes in the scope of models, and the inclusion of unrealistic assumptions. Validation is widely considered to be crucial to establishing the credibility of models in general, but how to validate optimization models in particular represents a permanent question generally in operations research. Aims: We aim to synthesize practical recommendations for the development of validation frameworks in the optimization modeling for forest management. Methods: We selected a sample of 46 studies devoted to optimization models to be applied in practice, analysed the contents with respect to validation, and provided a critical review. Results: We (1) clarified the meaning and usage of different validation-related terms that are commonly encountered in the literature, (2) identified and categorised the various methods and frameworks that are used to demonstrate model credibility, and (3) derived organizing principles that helped to suggest improvements in validation frameworks. Conclusions: A practical validation convention can be established and we suggest the convention to consist of three stages. By providing structured and consistent information about validation processes, researchers in forest management optimization can better demonstrate the credibility of their work to readers and potential users. Purpose: This paper aims to analyze the effects of enabling management control systems (MCSs) and relational capabilities (interorganizational learning and coordination) on conflict management in innovation ecosystems. Design/methodology/approach: Shedding light on relational governance, structural equation modeling (symmetric analysis) and qualitative comparative fuzzy-set analysis (asymmetric analysis) were applied to a sample of 164 Brazilian firms associated with science and technology parks (STPs), a specific type of innovation ecosystem. Findings: The results of the symmetric analysis showed that enabling MCSs have a direct and positive effect on conflict management, as well indirect effects through interorganizational learning and coordination. The results of the asymmetric analysis indicated four solutions to promote high levels of conflict management, with enabling MCS solutions standing out, as they are present in the majority of cases in the sample. Originality/value: Interorganizational conflict in innovation ecosystems are inevitable, but the previous literature is inconclusive about how the interrelation between MCS and relational capabilities can foster the management of these conflicts. By providing evidence on the predictors and solutions that lead to high levels of conflict management, this study presents valuable insights into how firms and STPs can mutually promote organizational and relational benefits throughout the innovation activities developed among those involved in innovation ecosystems. Grasping the interrelationship between the supply and demand of ecosystem services (ESs) and spatial scale characteristics is the foundation for effective ecological zoning management, which helps to realize a win–win situation for both ecological protection and economic development. This paper focuses on the following three real problems: mismatch in ES supply and demand evaluation, mechanical and subjective delineation of ecological zoning, and rough management strategies, and constructs a multi-scale ecological zoning management framework for the "comprehensive evaluation of supply and demand, ecological zoning, and enhancement of human well-being". This study integrates the InVEST model, SOM, Z-score quadrant matching, and coordination degree method, and applies them to the ecological management zoning of Hangzhou. The results show that (1) the spatial differentiation of ESs in Hangzhou is significant. The spatial pattern of the five types of ES supply varies at the county scale and the grid scale on which ES demand is concentrated and is consistent at different scales. (2) ES supply–demand matching in Hangzhou is at the basic coordination and can be divided into four modes including HH, LH, LL, and HL at both the county and grid scales. On the small scale, the proportion of mismatches declines slightly, but the severity rises. (3) ES supply is divided into four categories as follows: the food production bundle, the carbon storage bundle, the ESs balancing bundle, and the ESs depleting bundle, and clarifies the priority of ES management. (4) Construct an ecological management practice path, delineates 6 ecological management zones at the county scale and 19 secondary management zones at the grid scale. Targeted measures are proposed in terms of supply–demand adjustment strategies, ecological management strategies, and key implementation areas. This study conducted a bibliometric analysis of estuarine ecological integrity assessment, focusing on the methodologies and the selection of relevant indicators. The methodology primarily included physical-chemical, biological, and socio-economic indicators. The evaluation's significance was systematically analyzed through various indicators in several case studies. Wetland ecosystems are important regulators of global climate change. Studying the spatiotemporal changes and driving mechanisms of their ecosystem service values ( ESV) is beneficial for the sustainable development of wetlands. This paper uses the equivalent factor method, based on land use changes, to reveal the spatiotemporal evolution of the ecosystem service value in the Caohai National Nature Reserve ( CNNR). The results show the following; (D from 2000 to 2020, there was a significant decrease in the core zone's arable land area, with an increase in forest and water areas. Construction land mainly increased in the experimental area, and the grassland area showed a fluctuating change of first increasing and then decreasing; in 2000, 2010, and 2020, the ecosystem service value of the study area was 302 million, 296 million, and 325 million yuan, respectively, showing a trend of fluctuating growth, with the value of wetland ecosystems playing a dominant role; regulatory services are the main contributors to the ecosystem service value in the study area, with a contribution rate of 60%. Hydrological regulation is the ecosystem function with the highest value in wetland ecosystem services, contributing more than 35% to the ESV in all three periods; in terms of spatial distribution, the core zone's ecosystem service value is dominant. Looking at the total ecosystem service value of the region, the core zone > the experimental area > the buffer zone. In terms of ESV per unit area, the core zone (89 000 yuan/hm²) is significantly higher than the buffer zone (39 100 yuan/hm²) and the experimental area ( 15 800 yuan/hm² ) . This paper employs the paradigm of an innovation ecosystem to stimulate fashion innovation. This study applies an integrative literature review on fashion innovation, innovation ecosystem and policy-driven innovation, proposes a theoretical framework – fashion innovation ecosystem and streams future research directions. The findings suggest the innovation ecosystem is an inclusive, constructive and systematic lens and contribute to the management of fashion innovation. A mechanism of policy-driven fashion innovation is proposed to stress the role of government as a key actor in the fashion innovation ecosystem. Latin America is highly vulnerable to climate change. From a justice-centred approach, its communities have been using human and constitutional rights as a strategy to combat environmental degradation and protect ecosystems in climate litigation. Thus, the paper analyses the ecological dimension of human rights arising from the Latin American climate litigation by selecting disputes that link human rights and the protection of a specific ecosystem, which enables catching both the right to a healthy environment and the rights of nature. As for the results, the national courts interpret human rights from the notion of a socio-ecological system, emphasising a rights-duties approach based on social justice. The territory becomes a non-static space, there is a long-term temporal scale of rights, and the lawsuits elaborate on the interests of future generations. The rights of nature acknowledge a more-than-human world and argue that nature's legal titularity complements human rights, and both agendas meet at the intersection with the safe climate system. Although climate change appears as a secondary concern, applicants use the climate crisis as a crosscutting element aimed at ecosystems' protection and its impact on human rights. In conclusion, these disputes are ecological legal experiences that extensively redefine human rights law from the meeting between the system of rights and the cultural context of groups historically excluded from the spaces of power. Human rights receive a new axiological content reoriented from the realities of peripheral territories and previously invisible ecological backgrounds through the dynamic interaction with plural subjects that become drivers of transformations. The conflict between grassland ecosystem conservation and economic development is an important but challenging question. Realizing the value of ecosystem services (ES) is considered to be a solution for the dual sustainability of ecology and economy. However, there is a lack of systematic understanding of value realization of grassland ES, especially in the karst desertification (KDC) area, which is still at an exploratory stage. We obtained 527 studies from 48 countries in the past 20 years through the Scopus database, and systematically reviewed the current understandings and practices by the content analysis method, and enlightened the inspiration for the grassland in the KDC area. Results showed that: (i) Over the past 20 years, the literature number showed a fluctuating growth trend, and the study areas are mainly concentrated in economically developed countries with rich grassland resources; (ii) Pathways such as grassland management and payment for ecosystem services (PES) are widely used to improve grassland ES and human well-being, and most studies have shown positive effects; (iii) Their performance is significantly impacted by stakeholders, governments, as well as the attributes of ES, and a path of government-led, stakeholder participation and market-oriented operation should be explored; and (iv) There are still some knowledge gaps, such as, uneven distribution of study areas, few effective pathways for realizing the public grassland ES value, and deficient linkage mechanisms of "grassland ES-industry developmenteconomic system feedback-ecosystem protection," and so on. Based on our findings, we not only make recommendations for the current dilemma of realizing the value of grassland ES, but also put forward the enlightenments to the grassland in the KDC area based on experiences and lessons learned from global practices. Vegetation is an essential component of terrestrial ecosystems, influenced by climate change and human activities. Quantifying the relative contributions of climate change and human activities to vegetation dynamics is crucial for addressing global climate change. Sichuan Province is one of the essential ecological functional areas in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and its vegetation change is of great significance to the environmental function and ecological security of the Yangtze River Basin and southwest China. In this paper, the modified Carnegie-Ames-Stanford Approach(CASA) model was used to estimate the monthly NPP (Net Primary Productivity) of vegetation in Sichuan Province from 2000 to 2018, and the univariate linear regression analysis was used to analyze the temporal and spatial variation of vegetation NPP in Sichuan Province from 2000 to 2018. In addition, taking vegetation NPP as an index, Pearson correlation analysis, partial correlation analysis, and second-order partial correlation analysis were carried out to quantitatively analyze the contribution of climate change and human activities to vegetation NPP. Finally, the Hurst index and nonparametric Man-Kendall significance test were used to predict the future change trend of vegetation NPP in Sichuan Province. The results show that (1) from 2000 to 2018, the NPP of vegetation in Sichuan Province has a significant increasing trend (Slope = 6.09gC·m−2·a−1), with a multi-year average of 438.72 gC·m−2·a−1, showing a trend of low in the east and high in the middle. The response of vegetation NPP to altitude is different at different elevations; (2) the contribution rates of climate change and human activities to vegetation NPP change are 4.12gC·m−2·a−1 and 1.97gC·m−2·a−1, respectively. In contrast, the impact of human activities on NPP is more significant than climate change. Human activities are the main factors affecting vegetation restoration and degradation in Sichuan Province. However, the positive contribution to NPP change is less than climate change; (3) the future vegetation NPP change trend in Sichuan Province is mainly rising, and the same direction change trend is much larger than the reverse change trend. The areas with an increasing trend in the future account for 89.187% of the total area. This research helps understand the impact of climate change and human activities on vegetation change in Sichuan Province. A scientifically informed approach to decision-making is key to ensuring the sustainable management of ecosystems, especially in the light of increasing human pressure on habitats and species. Protected areas, with their long-term institutional mandate for biodiversity conservation, play an important role as data providers, for example, through the long-term monitoring of natural resources. However, poor data management often limits the use and reuse of this wealth of information. In this paper, we share lessons learned in managing long-term data from the Italian Alpine national parks. Our analysis and examples focus on specific issues faced by managers of protected areas, which partially differ from those faced by academic researchers, predominantly owing to different mission, governance, and temporal perspectives. Rigorous data quality control, the use of appropriate data management tools, and acquisition of the necessary skills remain the main obstacles. Common protocols for data collection offer great opportunities for the future, and complete recovery and documentation of time series is an urgent priority. Notably, before data can be shared, protected areas should improve their data management systems, a task that can be achieved only with adequate resources and a long-term vision. We suggest strategies that protected areas, funding agencies, and the scientific community can embrace to address these problems. The added value of our work lies in promoting engagement with managers of protected areas and in reporting and analysing their concrete requirements and problems, thereby contributing to the ongoing discussion on data management and sharing through a bottom-up approach. Blue carbon, a concept that emerged in the last decade, has received increasing attention in recent years. The development of blue carbon as a nature-based solution is crucial to global climate governance, biodiversity conservation, and restoration of fishery resources. This study utilized CiteSpace visualization software to conduct bibliometric and systematic analyses of 3474 papers retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection in 2003–2022, depicting a comprehensive framework of international research on blue carbon, exploring hotspots and trends, and proposing future directions and implications for ocean and coastal management. Overall, blue carbon research has experienced the early exploration period (2003–2007) based on scientific concepts, the development period (2008–2015) of research on carbon sequestration mechanisms and functions of different organisms and ecosystems, and the outbreak period (2016–2022) of carbon sink system quantification and management based on model prediction. Co-authorship analysis indicated that blue carbon research collaborates well across intuitions and countries, while collaboration among authors needs to be strengthened. Thematic evolution and hotspot analysis based on cited references and keywords revealed that coastal wetlands, especially mangroves, are a popular research theme, and the functional protection and development of management strategies for coastal ecosystems are major current research hotspots. In addition, it emphasized the need to focus on the protection, restoration and creation of blue carbon ecosystems (BCEs), develop sustainable marine ranching to promote blue carbon trading, explore more potential emerging blue carbon, and strengthen the management of blue carbon from the social level in the future. Functional and biodiversity genomics is essential for assessment and monitoring of planetary health and species-specific management in changing ecosystems. However, experimental knowledge of gene functions is limited to a few species, and dependencies on distantly related models. Combined with unrecognized degrees of lineage-specific gene family expansion, this means that traditional comparative methods are insufficient. Here, we introduce the concept of a hotspot, defined as innovations underlying the evolution of lineage-specific biology. We illustrate hotspots using molluscs having chromosome-scale genome assemblies and focus on heat-sensing TRPM channels and species living in environments of extreme heat stress (e.g., high intertidal and hydrothermal vent gastropods and bivalves). Integrating gene family, orthogroup, and domain-based methods with genomic hotspots (local homolog expansions on chromosomes), we show that conventional approaches overlook substantial amounts of species-specific gene family diversity due to limitations of distant homology detection. In contrast, local segmental duplications are often recent, lineage-specific genetic innovations reflecting emerging adaptions and can be identified for any genome. Revealed TRPM gene family diversification highlights unique neural and behavioral mechanisms that could be beneficial in predicting species' resilience to heat stress. In summary, the identification of hotspots and their integration with other types of analyses illuminate evolutionary (neuro)genomic strategies that do not depend on knowledge from model organisms and unbiasedly reveal evolutionarily recent lineage-specific adaptations. We investigated assessments of calorie production and energy efficiencies of phytoplankton in Gwangyang, Jaran, and Geoje-Hansan bays in southern Korea, based on seasonal field measurements data for particulate organic carbon (POC), macromolecular compositions, calorie contents, and primary production. Our findings revealed that Geoje-Hansan Bay consistently exhibits higher POC concentrations compared to Gwangyang and Jaran bays, except during the summer season. The observed seasonal variations in POC concentrations and primary productions indicated distinct factors influencing POC distribution among the bays, which varies with the seasons. Macromolecular compositions displayed notable patterns, with Gwangyang Bay exhibiting pronounced seasonal variations, Jaran and Geoje-Hansan bays showing stable carbohydrate (CHO) dominance, and Gwangyang Bay displaying protein (PRT) dominance influenced by river-borne nutrients. Analysis of calorie content revealed that Geoje-Hansan Bay exhibited the highest calorie content, suggesting a more favorable physiological state of phytoplankton compared to Gwangyang and Jaran bays. Estimations of annual primary production and calorie production demonstrated regional variations, with Geoje-Hansan Bay having the highest values followed by Jaran Bay and Gwangyang Bay. These differences in primary production and calorie production reflect the diverse ecological conditions and nutrient availability specific to each bay. Interestingly, Gwangyang Bay demonstrated the highest energy efficiency, producing more calories per unit of carbon compared to the other two bays, potentially due to the influence of different dominant phytoplankton communities. This study enhances our understanding of ecosystem dynamics and ecological characteristics among the three bays, emphasizing the importance of considering seasonal variations and specific bay characteristics in investigating biogeochemical processes, energy flow, and ecosystem functioning. Background: This study examines seasonal and regional trends in chlorophyll-a concentrations and the dynamics of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) in 32 fishponds (resulting in 150 pond-year cases) employed for fish production. Fishponds have a poor ecological state, requiring further insights for pond management. To gain those insights, monthly data on the pond environment were collected over the growing seasons from April to September (up to 14 years) across lowland to highland regions in Czechia. We used a ratio of dissolved inorganic nitrogen to total phosphorus (DIN:TP) to investigate seasonal patterns of N and P limitations. Results: Fishponds in the lowland region (below 199 m above sea level, a.s.l.) were predominantly N-limited (80%), while ponds in the midland region (200–449 m a.s.l.) exhibited P limitation at the beginning of the growing season (April–May) and N limitation by the end of the season (August–September; 90% of fishponds). Highland fishponds (above 450 m a.s.l.) showed frequent P limitations, especially during the beginning of the season. Chlorophyll-a concentrations varied on both regional and seasonal scales, with the overall phytoplankton biomass peak at 31 ha of pond surface area. Chlorophyll-a remained stable at the beginning of the season regardless of the DIN:TP ratio but increased with a lower DIN:TP ratio by its end. The chlorophyll-a concentrations were lowest at the beginning and highest at the end of the season and decreased with altitude. Conclusions: Seasonal and regional variations in nutrient limitations and chlorophyll-a occur in fishponds. The dynamics of plant-herbivore interactions are essential for understanding ecosystem stability and resilience. This article investigated the effects of incorporating a harvesting effect on the dynamics of a discrete-time plant-herbivore system. An analysis was performed to determine the existence and stability of fixed points. In addition, studies have shown that the system experienced transcritical, period-doubling, and Neimark-Sacker bifurcations. Moreover, we provided numerical simulations to substantiate our theoretical results. Our research indicated that harvesting in excessive amounts may have negative effects on the populations of both plants and herbivores. However, when harvesting was done at moderate levels, it promoted the coexistence and stability of both populations. The findings of our analysis provided a deep understanding of the intricate dynamics of ecological systems and underscored the need to use sustainable harvesting methods for the management and preservation of ecosystems. With the rapid development of economy and society, decision-makers need a deep understanding of the role of sustainable ecosystem management in practical application, which is crucial to the sustainable development of ecosystems. Understanding the relationship between ecosystem supply and social demand is key in overcoming the contradiction between humans and the ecosystem, as well as achieving successful ecological restoration and healthy regional development. However, there is still a lack of multi-scale and multi-method research on the supply–demand relationship of ecosystem services for key ecological-restoration zone. In this study, a typical ecological barrier (i.e., Ganzhou City of southern China) was selected as the research area, and five ecosystem services (ESs) including water yield (WY), carbon sequestration (CS), crop production (CP), soil retention (SR) and recreation service (RE) were investigated at the pixel, township and county scale in 2020. The balance and coordination analysis of ESs supply and the quantitative analysis of the supply–demand relationship (using the coupling coordination degree (CD), matching degree (MD), and supply–demand ratio (SDR)) were executed under multiple scales. Finally, based on the MD at the township scale, Ganzhou City was divided into four areas: high-demand, low-demand, low-supply and high-supply areas. The results reveal a trade-off relationship between CP and CS at the pixel scale, with no trade-off relationships observed among the ESs at the other scales. The supply–demand relationships of different districts and counties in Ganzhou City are highly uncoordinated, with distinct spatial mismatching. Areas with high CD values are located in Chongyi County and Longnan County, while the low/value SDR area is located in Zhanggong District, with a relatively high population and GDP. The results of MD division based on township level in Ganzhou City show 17 townships are classified as high-demand areas (mainly in urban areas) and 23 townships are classified as low-demand areas (mainly in the suburbs); 77 townships are classified as low-supply areas and 167 townships are classified as high-supply areas, which are mainly distributed in forest areas. This study provides guide for regional ecological space planning, enhances the understanding of ESs management, and provides a more objective reference for decision makers to plan future ecological restoration. Coastal lagoons are valuable ecosystems, providing socioeconomic benefits and supporting human populations and biodiversity. However, these systems face several challenges, making them vulnerable to both natural and human factors. In this study, we apply the Driver-Pressure-State-Impact-Response (DPSIR) Approach to conduct a comprehensive socioeconomic and environmental assessment of the Khenifiss Lagoon to promote sustainable development and support decision-makers. Located on the southern Atlantic coast of Morocco, the lagoon was designated a natural reserve in 1962, a biological reserve in 1983, and a protected wetland under the Ramsar Convention since 1980. This study represents the initial endeavor to conduct a comprehensive global and multidisciplinary environmental assessment of the lagoon by using a wide range of data sources, including relevant publications and reports, satellite images and remote sensing data, field observations, and interviews, all analyzed under the DPSIR framework. Our findings show that both natural and human factors have an impact on the ecosystem. Natural Factors associated with the geomorphological features of the region likely contribute to the silting of the lagoon, possibly intensified by a large shipwreck stuck at its inlet. Meanwhile, human factors encompass population growth (at a rate of 2% per year), tourism, shellfish farming, fishing, shellfish harvesting, and salt extraction. Our results reveal significant changes in the lagoon's condition in recent years, including a reduction in water body extent, a probable decrease in depth, and an increase in the accumulation of solid waste, plastics, and wastewater in three sectors spanning a total surface area of 464 ha (equivalent to 7% of the lagoon), a substantial expansion of the salt mining area encompassing 368 ha, and a remarkable loss of biodiversity, manifested in declining fish stocks and seabird populations. This study showed that the lagoon is positioned as a potential site for economic growth and serves to alert stakeholders and the local population to the ecosystem's environmental issues. Based on the findings of this study, we highly recommend regulating human activities within the lagoon, the removal of the wreck at the entrance, proper waste management, community awareness programs, and strict monitoring and enforcement of regulations to protect the environment. Context: The concept of the fire regime is central to understanding and managing fire-prone ecosystems globally, and information on past regimes can provide useful insights into species disturbance adaptations. Although observations from satellite imagery or palaeoecological proxy data can provide direct evidence of past, pre-colonial fire regimes, they may be limited in temporal or spatial resolution and are not available for all ecosystems. However, fire-related plant-trait and demographic data offer an alternative approach to understand species–fire regime associations at the ecosystem scale. Aims: We aimed to quantify the life-history strategies and associated fire regimes for six co-occurring shrub and tree species from fire-prone, Mediterranean-climate Banksia Woodlands in south-western Australia. Methods: We collected static demographic data on size structure, seedling recruitment, and plant mortality across sites of varying time since last fire. We combined demographic data with key fire-related species traits to define plant life-history strategies. We then compared observed life histories with a priori expectations for surface, stand-replacing, and mixed-severity fire-regime types to infer historical fire-regime associations. Key results: Fire-killed shrubs and weakly serotinous trees had abundant post-fire seedling recruitment, but also developed multi-cohort populations during fire-free periods via inter-fire seedling recruitment. Resprouting shrubs had little seedling recruitment at any time, even following fire, and showed no signs of decline in the long absence of fire, likely owing to their very long lifespans. Conclusions: The variation in life-history strategies for these six co-occurring species is consistent with known ecological strategies to cope with high variation in fire intervals in a mixed-severity fire regime. Whereas resprouting and strong post-fire seedling recruitment indicate a tolerance of shorter fire intervals, inter-fire recruitment and weak serotiny are interpreted as a bet-hedging strategy to cope with occasional long fire-free periods that may otherwise exceed adult and seed-bank lifespans. Implications: Our findings suggested that Banksia Woodlands have evolved with highly variable fire intervals in a mixed-severity fire regime. Further investigations of species adaptations to varying fire size and patchiness can help extend our understanding of fire-regime tolerances. Information on past fire regimes can provide useful insights into species disturbance adaptations. To test the idea that contemporary demographic parameters provide a signature of past fire regimes, we assessed fire-related plant life-history strategies by using static demographic data collected along a 1–35-year fire-age chronosequence for species with a variety of traits. This research explores the zooplanktonic community in Nilje Lake near Dombivli, emphasizing its role as a vital indicator of aquatic ecosystem health (Nougueria, 2001; Sampaio et al., 2002). The study aims to uncover the dynamics of zooplankton populations across seasons, crucial for understanding the lake's response to environmental changes. Nilje Lake, a crucial natural asset in Dombivli, experiences fluctuating flora and fauna influenced by climatic shifts (Mahor, 2011; Koli and Muley, 2012). The research investigates how zooplankton composition, abundance, and diversity vary in response to seasonal changes, considering factors like water temperature and nutrient availability. Zooplankton, microorganisms vital to the aquatic food web, bridge lower trophic levels (phytoplankton) to higher trophic levels (fish) (Hutchinson, 1967). Recognizing the seasonal dynamics of this community is essential for comprehending the lake's overall stability. Meticulous field sampling and laboratory analyses unveil distinct seasonal trends. Warmer months exhibit increased abundance of specific zooplankton species, potentially linked to elevated temperatures and nutrient availability. Conversely, cooler months witness a shift in composition and decreased overall abundance. These findings offer insights into zooplankton responses to seasonal fluctuations in Nilje Lake, guiding targeted conservation efforts (Singh, 2000). Local authorities and environmentalists can leverage this knowledge for effective lake health preservation. The research contributes to sustainable ecosystem management, emphasizing the necessity of ongoing studies for informed conservation strategies. Microscopic examination reveals fourteen zooplankton genera, with Rotifera dominating (6 genera), followed by Copepoda (4), Cladocera (3), and Ostracoda (1) (Carbonel et al, 1988; Külköylüoðlu, 2003). Cladocerans consistently dominate in abundance. Rotifers exhibit higher species composition, while copepods show lower abundance and diversity. Ostracods, indicative of water quality, demonstrate lower diversity and abundance (Delorme, 1969; Benson, 1990). Intraspecific genetic variation is important for the assessment of organisms' resistance to changing environments and anthropogenic pressures. Aquatic DNA metabarcoding provides a non‐invasive method in biodiversity research, including investigations at the within‐species level. Through the analysis of eDNA samples collected from the Peter the Great Gulf of the Japan Sea, in this study, we aimed to evaluate the identification of Amplicon Sequence Variants (ASVs) in marine eDNA among abundant species of the Zostera sp. community: Hexagrammos octogrammus, Pholidapus dybowskii (Teleostei: Perciformes), and Pandalus latirostris (Arthropoda: Decapoda). These species were collected from two distant locations to produce mock communities and gather aquatic eDNA both on the community and individual level. Our approach highlights the efficacy of eDNA metabarcoding in capturing haplotypic diversity and the potential for this methodology to track genetic diversity accurately, contributing to conservation efforts and ecosystem management. Additionally, our results elucidate the impact of nuclear mitochondrial DNA segments (NUMTs) on the reliability of metabarcoding data, indicating the necessity for cautious interpretation of such data in ecological studies. Moreover, we analyzed 83 publicly available COI sequence datasets from common groups of multicellular organisms (Mollusca, Echinodermata, Crustacea, Polychaeta, and Actinopterygii). As global climate change intensifies and human activities escalate, changes in vegetation cover, an important ecological indicator, hold significant implications for ecosystem protection and management. Shandong Province, a critical agricultural and economic zone in China, experiences vegetation changes that crucially affect regional climate regulation and biodiversity conservation. This study employed normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) data, combined with climatic, topographic, and anthropogenic activity data, utilizing trend analysis methods, partial correlation analysis, and Geodetector to comprehensively analyze the spatiotemporal variations and primary driving factors of vegetation cover in Shandong Province from 2001 to 2020. The findings indicate an overall upward trend in vegetation cover, particularly in areas with concentrated human activities. Climatic factors, such as precipitation and temperature, exhibit a positive correlation with vegetation growth, while land use changes emerge as one of the key drivers influencing vegetation dynamics. Additionally, topography also impacts the spatial distribution of vegetation to a certain extent. This research provides a scientific basis for ecological protection and land management in Shandong Province and similar regions, supporting the formulation of effective vegetation restoration and ecological conservation strategies. In aquaculture, it is crucial to understand and mitigate the carbon footprint for sustainable production. As demand for seafood increases, various production techniques compete for an eco-friendly status. This review examines the carbon footprint of various land-based marine aquaculture systems, highlighting their environmental impact. Through exploring innovations and best practices, it navigates the complexities of reducing emissions and promoting carbon sequestration. Some proposals for this purpose are based on diversification through low-trophic-level species, the preservation of high-carbon sequestration sites, polyculture, organic aquaculture and improvements in nutrition, feeding, waste and energy management. In this sense, some land-based aquaculture systems are progressively adapting and updating their zootechnical procedures. Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RASs) offer interesting advantages such as water conservation, pollution reduction and biosecurity. Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture systems (IMTAs) aim to address two major issues in aquaculture: efficient water usage and the environmental impact of effluents, which are rich in organic particles and dissolved nutrients from undigested food and feces; hence, these systems involve cultivating multiple species (polyculture). Biofloc Technology (BFT) is based on the formation of bioflocs in a culture medium. These systems can enhance feeding efficiency and waste management, thus optimizing nutrient utilization and minimizing environmental impact, achieved through reduced water and fertilizer usage. Traditional (extensive) aquaculture systems operate with minimal input of feed and chemicals, relying heavily on the natural productivity of the ecosystems; thus, the need for manufactured feed, the environmental impact associated with feed production and the transportation and overall costs are significantly reduced. Overall, while RASs, BFT and extensive systems in general offer significant sustainability benefits, IMTA's holistic approach to ecosystem management and nutrient recycling makes it, in our estimation, the most effective method in terms of ecological footprint in aquaculture. However, its quantitative evaluation is extremely complex, and there is currently a lack of references about its global carbon footprint. Ecological zoning management aims to ensure ecological functions and improve environmental quality, serving as an essential means to optimize the development and protection of territorial space. However, comprehensive research on ecological zoning management that combines human needs with natural resources is still relatively scarce. In this study, we selected water yield (WY), food provision (FP), and carbon sequestration (CS) as the critical ecosystem services (ES) in China. An InVEST model, ecosystem services supply–demand index (ESI), random forest (RF), and geographically and temporally weighted regression (GTWR) were used to analyze the spatiotemporal characteristics and influencing factors of ES supply and demand, and the four-quadrant model was used to analyze the spatial matching patterns. The results showed that: (1) from 2005 to 2020, the supply and demand of WY, FP, and CS increased. Among them, WY, FP, and CS supply increased by 16.06%, 34%, and 22.53%, respectively, while demand increased by 5.63%, 12.4%, and 83.02%, respectively; (2) the supply of WY and CS follow a "high in the southeast and low in the northwest" pattern, while all of the demands exhibit a "high in the east and low in the west" pattern; and (3) the average ecosystem service supply–demand index (ESI) values for WY, FP, and CS in China are 0.45, 0.12, and −0.24, respectively, showing an overall upward trend. The study identified three dominant functional zones for WY, FP, and CS, and four classification management zones, including protection zones, conservation zones, improvement zones, and reconstruction zones. These research findings provide a scientific basis for future territorial space planning in China and the application of ecosystem service supply and demand in sustainable development. This study explores seasonal fluctuations in water quality and phytoplankton communities within Karun-4 Dam Lake, the largest double-arch dam in the Middle East situated in Iran. Employing a systematic approach, 26 sampling stations were strategically selected to collect surface water samples at a depth of 50 cm during the midpoints of each season throughout 2019. Significant seasonal variations in water quality parameters and phytoplankton composition were observed. Predominant species included Chrysophyceae (38%) and Bacillariophyceae (32%), indicative of nutrient-rich conditions, particularly during spring and summer, as evidenced by the eutrophic state (Carlson Trophic State Index: 59.43 and 53.96, respectively). Summer exhibited the highest diversity (Shannon–Wiener Index = 2.27) and lowest evenness (Pielou's Evenness Index = 0.21). PCA and CCA analyses revealed season-specific preferences for nutrients and ions among phytoplankton species. Water temperature emerged as a crucial factor in spring and summer, while environments with elevated bicarbonate and alkalinity levels were less favorable during winter and fall. This study provides essential insights into Karun-4 Lake's dynamic ecological conditions, underscoring the necessity for ongoing monitoring to discern long-term trends and anthropogenic impacts for effective ecosystem management. Eco-engineering is an important tool for wetland restoration, but there are still large theoretical and application gaps in the knowledge of the effects of eco-engineering implementation on the interactions between environmental conditions and organisms during wetland restoration processes. In this study, we investigated water quality parameters and plankton communities in a national wetland park to clarify the mechanism of changes in plankton community structure and their ecological networks before and after the eco-engineering project. Undoubtedly, we found water quality was significantly improved with increased metazooplankton diversity after the implementation of eco-engineering. Ecological engineering reduced the effect of farmland drainage on the restored wetland and changed the phytoplankton community structure, which significantly reduced the relative abundance of Cyanobacteria and increased the relative abundance of Bacillariophyta. The structural equation modeling revealed that the total effect of metazooplankton on phytoplankton was significantly enhanced and associated with weakened relationships between phytoplankton and environmental variables after eco-engineering. In addition, the ecological network analysis also showed that the network connection between phytoplankton and metazooplankton was stronger after the eco-engineering implementation, leading to an enhanced biotic interactions in different trophic levels. These results indicate that the main approach to regulating primary producers in wetland ecosystems changed from "bottom-up" control to a combination of "bottom-up" and "top-down" control under the intervention of artificial recovery measures. Our findings shed new light on the effects of eco-engineering on the interactions between water quality and organisms and provide a scientific basis for the sustainable management of wetland ecosystems. In order to deepen our understanding of the ecosystems around thermal springs and contribute to their preservation and enhancement, our study focused on the physico-chemical analysis of soils located in the immediate vicinity of two thermal springs Ain El Haouamed (S1) and Ain Hamra (S2) in the eastern region of Morocco. At the same time, we identified the plants that thrive in these areas and have developed specific adaptations to particular environmental conditions. The results of physico-chemical soil analyses revealed distinct characteristics. Around the first thermal spring (S1), the soil has a sandy loam texture, while around the second spring (S2), a clayey loam texture. The pH of both soils is slightly basic. In terms of organic matter, significant variations were observed between soil samples taken in these areas. Electrical conductivity and other physico-chemical parameters showed variable values. A study of the vegetation near the thermal springs shows the presence of (Matricaria chamomilla, Juncus acutus, Carex sylvatica) at site 1 and (Tamarix gallica, Inula viscosa, Phragmites australis, Typha angustifolia) at site 2. This information will certainly contribute to a better understanding of these specific thermal ecosystems. The present study has led to the identification of several plant species of great interest, representing an important advance in our knowledge of the biodiversity of these areas.
