This paper presents a high-resolution 18-bit SAR ADC with a high 10-bit capacitor DAC and a low 8-bit resistor DAC. The total required number of the unit capacitors is decreased to 512. Foreground digital calibration based on capacitive recombination is introduced to improve linearity. Preamplifiers and output offset storage(OOS) enhance the noise and offset performance of the comparator. As a result, the design under 180 nm process achieves a signal-to-noise and distortion ratio(SNDR) of 105.5dB and a spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of 116.3dB under 1 MS/s sampling rate with a single channel. The effective number of bits (ENOB) can reach 17.23 bits with a Nyquist-rate input while consuming 46 mW from a 5 V supply. The resultant Schreier and Walden figures of merit (FoM) are 178.92 dB and 295.34 fJ/conversion-step, respectively. The proposed SAR ADC occupies an actual area of 3850 μ m by 2810 μ m. This article presents a novel 3-Φ inverter that operates from a single direct current source and is based on the idea of switched-capacitor (SC) techniques. Each phase leg of the proposed topology (PT) consists of eight switches, two capacitors, and a diode. This configuration enables the generation of seven levels (line-to-line) voltage waveforms. The proposed design has several advantages, such as the capacitors' natural balancing, the ability to boost, minimum voltage stresses on the power switches, and fewer switching components. When compared to the conventional two-stage design, single-stage dc–ac power converters with boost capabilities present an intriguing option. This paper introduces a novel boost-type inverter for use in a wide variety of applications, including rolling mills, fans, pumps, maritime appliances, mining, tractions, and more. The study explains the proposed design, principle, control mechanism, and loss analysis in great depth. The advantages of the PT have been demonstrated through comparison with recently published SC topologies. A newly designed third-order mixed-mode orthogonally tuned quadrature oscillator, generating sinusoidal voltage and current waveforms, is introduced in this paper. The reported circuit is realized using two dual-X current conveyor transconductance amplifiers (DXCCTAs), two active MOS-based grounded resistors and three grounded capacitors. MOS-C realization of the proposed oscillator with all grounded capacitors is the best choice for modern integration. In this study, the ideal and non-ideal analyses and frequency stability aspect of the circuit are elucidated. The proposed third-order oscillator circuit has the advantages of orthogonally controllable frequency of oscillation & condition of oscillation, very good operating frequency (34.25 MHz) and low total harmonic distortion (within 1.8%). The theoretical analyses have been validated by both pre-layout and post-layout simulations using general process design kit 0.18 μ m technology and the results have been compared with relevant state-of-the-art works. This paper introduces a floating flux-controlled meminductor emulator, implemented using two voltage differencing differential difference amplifier (VDDDA) along with a memristor and capacitor. Grounded and floating configurations are simulated with TSMC 0.18 µm level-49 BSIM3 CMOS process parameters in LTspice, showcasing the performance of the proposed circuits. The circuit features electronic tunability, allowing for the adjustment of nonlinear flux through the tuning of bias voltage. Simulation results validate the frequency-dependent current-flux dynamics of the proposed meminductor emulator. The simulation results, which involve frequencydependent pinched hysteresis loops, transient analysis, non-volatility, and Monte Carlo analysis of the proposed meminductor, affirm the functionality and adequacy of the proposed design. This paper proposes an adaptive model of modular multilevel converter (MMC) for electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulations. The model is applicable to MMCs with arbitrary numbers of half-bridge and full-bridge submodules. The proposed design includes average value model, arm equivalent model, and detailed equivalent model. It allows smoothly transitioning from one model to another during time-domain simulations depending on the desired accuracy and execution time constraints. Modifications required in conventional MMC models to achieve smooth transitions are presented in the paper. Time-domain initialization methods are developed for each constituting model, including initialization of the appropriate control system blocks. The LCL-type grid-connected inverter (GCI) is widely adopted between distributed generation (DG) and power grid to realize DC/AC power conversion. However, the underdamped LCL filter will cause a resonance phenomenon near the control stability boundary, which may lead to instability of the GCI system. The traditional passive damping method will cause power loss, while the active damping method may have the need for additional sensors or be sensitive to parameter changes. In this article, a control scheme based on active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) is proposed for the LCL-type GCI, and the systematic parameter design method is presented through root locus analysis. With the proposed strategy, only the grid-injected current is sensed to achieve the objectives of grid-injected current direct control and robust resonance damping for the LCL-type GCI. In the design process, the influence of digital control delay and grid impedance uncertainty on system stability is explicitly analyzed in detail. Through this, the GCI can work stably over a wide range of the typical inductive-resistive grid impedance. In addition, it is found that the proposed strategy also has good adaptability to the filter parameter perturbation. The vacuum interrupter-based DC circuit breaker is one of the most important equipments in the DC power system. The dielectric recovery (DR) of vacuum interrupter (VI) is essential for breaking reliability, especially on some occasions with ultra-large fault current such as the outlet of generator. To measure the DR of VI under high arcing current, an experiment circuit is designed and the DR under arcing current from 20 kA to 60 kA is presented in this paper. The influence of arcing current, contact separation, di/dt before current zero and arcing time on the DR is investigated. Particularly, it's found that under a specific arcing current, there exists an optimal arcing time for DR, and it shows a negative correlation with the arcing current. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Voltage source converters (VSCs) have been extensively used in power systems for interfacing renewable energies and other modern loads. Because of their nonlinear nature, a proper harmonic model of VSC devices must be established when conducting harmonic analyses in power systems. This is especially true for low-order harmonics, which are routinely encountered in present power systems. To this end, an analytical harmonic model that represents the low-order harmonic characteristics of VSCs is developed in this paper. The new model takes both the control loop and power loop (i.e., DC-link capacitor) of the VSC into account through rigorous mathematical derivations. The final result has shown that the VSC can be represented by a harmonically coupled impedance matrix at harmonic frequencies, which can be easily used for harmonic analyses of large-scale power systems. It also shows that the DC-link capacitor has a more noticeable impact on the harmonic impedance of VSCs with a smaller DC-link capacitance and low-order harmonics. The appropriateness of the new model was verified using EMT simulations and lab experiments. The current-limiting inductors (CLIs) are commonly used to suppress DC fault current to safely trip DC circuit breakers in MMC-HVDC systems, but it significantly jeopardizes DC dynamics and causes instantaneous power mismatch between AC and DC sides of islanded rectifier station (RS), exposing MMC internal states to large disturbance. This paper firstly provides a detailed analysis of the influence of CLIs on AC fault, establishes RS mathematical representation including AC side dynamic, and reveals the mechanism of DC voltage oscillation, modulation saturation and PCC waveform distortion. The analysis shows that the AC and DC fault characteristics are decoupled under unsaturated AC modulation, but coupled under excessively low submodule capacitor voltage, where AC modulation is saturated and PCC waveforms are distorted. To solve this issue, a novel RS AC fault ride through method for MMC-HVDC system with CLIs is proposed to stabilize RS DC voltage, desaturate AC modulation and decouple fault characteristics by regulating the zero-sequence modulation of circulating current suppression. In addition, a current reference disturbance and an AC energy dissipation device coordinated control are designed, which adaptively recovers the submodule capacitor voltage. Regarding the problems of resonance and direct current (DC) components when the Z-source inverter (ZSI) without an isolation transformer is connected to the grid through an LCL filter, this paper proposes a novel DC component suppression strategy for a grid-connected ZSI based on the split capacitor method of disturbance observer (DOB). The split capacitor method is utilized to convert a third-order LCL filter into a first-order one to eliminate the resonance problem. The DC component of the inverter output voltage is regarded as an external disturbance, and the employed DOB is used to observe it, which is fed forward to suppress the DC disturbance component. Various comparison results of the simulation and experiment show that the proposed control strategy can effectively reduce grid-connected DC components injected into the grid at less than 0.5%, which decreases the DC component from 1.8% to 0.1%. Miniaturization and low cost contribute to the development and popularization of wireless power transfer (WPT). Reducing the number of power conversion stages can reduce the volume and cost of the WPT converter, and even make it possible to improve the efficiency. A single-stage WPT converter with constant current (CC) and constant voltage (CV) output and its asymmetric modulation method are proposed in this paper. A direct AC-AC converter is applied to the primary side of the WPT converter to directly convert line-frequency AC to high-frequency AC. The applied direct AC-AC converter that can replace the commonly used multi-stage primary converter reduces the number of circuit devices, thereby reducing the volume and cost of primary converter. The proposed WPT converter can realize zero voltage switching (ZVS) and power factor correction (PFC). In order to achieve CC and CV output, a switchable hybrid compensation topology is applied to the proposed WPT converter. This paper describes a 10-bit digital-to-time converter (DTC) utilizing the glitch-free dual reset method and switchable supply regulation scheme for high linearity regardless of supply ripple noise and input signal speed. The proposed circuit is designed as a single-ended structure, and a delay control is configured as a thermometer code for high differential nonlinearity (DNL) with 32 × 32 array capacitors. The DTC is optimized with a 200 MHz input signal for utilizing wide bandwidth PLLs to decrease a conversion range and keep a high resolution of a time-to-digital converter to reduce the power dissipation and quantization noise, respectively. Besides, the high linearity is guaranteed in dynamic operation, which is the worst case of DTCs' control. The output jitter is 159.3 fsrms at the maximal delay, while the DTC consumes 0.603 mW with a total area of 0.0085 mm2. This paper presents a new control strategy for enhancing the dc voltage regulation and the transient response in the multi-terminal VSC-HVDC system by ensuring swift power-sharing among converters when encountering large disturbance such as converter loss or ac fault at one of the converter stations. The quick power sharing can be realized using direct power control (DPC) since it has a merit of fast power dynamic response. On the other hand, to limit the converter current during ac fault, a new coordination strategy between DPC and vector current control (VCC) is proposed. Furthermore, a new simplified model of the MTDC system is developed to study the performance of DPC in enhancing the dc voltage dynamics response analytically. The time-domain simulation of the detailed model of the four converter stations MTDC system verify that the proposed control strategy significantly reduces the overshoot in the transient dc voltage response following an outage or ac fault. As a result, together with the droop gain selection for the maximum permissible steady-state dc voltage deviation, the proposed control strategy can help to reduce the size of the dc chopper in the MTDC grid or even avoiding it. Moreover, the comparative analysis based on time-domain simulation depicts that the proposed simplified model has the same dc voltage response compared to the detailed model of the MTDC system except for a steady-state error of 0.47% and a little bit longer settling time (1.5 ms) at transient. Nowadays, nonlinear loads such as load commutated inverter (LCI) drives are being used by industrial sector throughout the world. However, despite the LCI drive uses low-cost thyristors and their corresponding controllers, which have high efficiency and low manufacturing cost, there are concerns regarding the use of LCI drives which are two-fold: (i) they generate harmonics and (ii) they are sensitive to voltage sags occurring at their PCC. In the literature, passive harmonic filters have been suggested to address the former concern and therefore various filter designing techniques have been introduced. However, the need to elaborate a cost-effective filter to address both concerns regarding LCI drive operation has been neglected. Therefore, this paper presents an innovative approach for designing passive filters which can decrease the harmonic distortions generated by LCI drives while ensuring more reliable annual operation of these equipment. Besides, other aspects of passive filter designing, such as eliminating detuning effects, resonance elimination and harmonic loading of capacitors, have been taken into account to provide a general and practical filter designing approach for real industrial applications. The missing capability of DC fault current limitation is an inherent disadvantage in the typical half-bridge modular multilevel converter (MMC), which restricts its application in long-distance high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems. The full-bridge submodule (FBSM) and clamped double submodule (CDSM) topologies allow for fault current self-clearing, but also suffer from additional hardware cost and power losses. In this paper, an improved submodule topology utilizing the new reverse-blocking insulated gate bipolar transistor (RB-IGBT) is proposed to improve system economy without compromising its performance. The operating principles and DC fault characteristics of the proposed topology are analyzed in details, including comparison with various topologies in terms of cost, losses, fault current clearing speed and thermal. Compared with the traditional CDSM topology, the proposed RBSM can clear DC faults faster with reduced cost of switching devices. A DC fault protection strategy for MMC-HVDC system is also presented. The paper addresses an improved inner current reference calculation to be employed in the control of modular multilevel converters operating during either balanced or unbalanced conditions. The suggested reference calculation is derived based on the AC and DC additive and differential voltage components applied to the upper and lower arms of the converter. In addition, the impacts caused not only by the AC network’s impedances but also by the MMC’s arm impedances are also considered during the derivation of the AC additive current reference expressions. Another issue discussed in this article regards that singular voltage conditions, where the positive-sequence component is equal to the negative one, may occur not only in the AC network but also internally (within the converter’s applied voltages). Several different inner current reference calculation methods are compared and their applicability during the former fault conditions is analyzed. The paper presents a detailed formulation of the inner current reference calculation and applies it to different unbalanced AC grid faults where it is shown that the presented approach can be potentially used to maintain the internal energy of the converter balanced during normal and fault conditions. Modular multilevel converters (MMCs) have been recognized as the most attractive technology for high voltage direct current (HVDC) applications during the last years. Their advantages include the ability to freely control the internally stored energy in the distributed submodules (SMs) and to independently control AC and DC powers. Recent studies showed that an MMC can take advantage of this degree of freedom to supply ancillary services with low energy requirements such as frequency response or power oscillation damping by connecting energy storage systems (ESSs) to its SM capacitors. This paper proposes a modular DC-DC converter as an interface between the energy storage element and the SM capacitor. As it can be built with switches allowing a high switching frequency, it is shown that the volume of the passive components can be reduced in comparison with interface converters known in the literature. The proposed control strategy avoids to transfer the harmonics of a SM to the ESS that prevents to drastically oversize the system. The proposed control method also provides an appropriate energy exchange without affecting the control philosophy of an MMC and it addresses balancing issues. Simulations and a downscaled prototype confirm the relevance of the proposed control. As the proposed interface converter is able to track the power reference with fast dynamics, it provides the same system-level advantages as other interface converters known in the literature but with a reduced volume. This paper proposes a grid-connected single-phase micro-inverter (MI) with a rated power of 300 W and an appropriate control strategy for photovoltaic (PV) systems. The proposed MI is designed based on a two-stage topology. The first stage consists of a SEPIC DC-DC converter with high voltage gain to step up the voltage of the PV panel and harness the maximum power, while the second stage includes a full-bridge DC-AC converter. The advantages of the proposed MI are the use of fewer components to provide suitable output voltage level for connection to a single-phase grid, continuous input current, limited voltage stress on the switch, high efficiency, long operational lifetime, and high reliability. Lower input current ripple and the presence of film capacitors in the power decoupling circuit increase the lifetime and reliability of the proposed MI. In the proposed MI, the active power decoupling circuit, which is normally used in a typical single-stage SEPIC-based MI, is eliminated to achieve both a long lifetime and high efficiency. A full-bridge diode-clamped multilevel LLC resonant converter suitable for power conversion systems that use high input voltage, such as railway vehicles, is proposed in this paper. In order to eliminate the voltage deviations of the capacitors connected in series to the high voltage input DC link, a novel modulation strategy referred to as multi-neighboring reference vector discontinuous pulse-width modulation (MNRV DPWM) is proposed. Unlike the existing two-level resonant converter that varies the operating frequency to hold the output voltage constant, the proposed multilevel resonant converter modulates the amplitude of the fundamental wave input to a resonance tank while fixing the operating frequency at the resonance point. Therefore, the design of passive elements becomes easier, and stable operation is possible over a wide operating range with only one power conversion stage. In this paper, the control algorithm and operation characteristics of the newly proposed full-bridge diode-clamped four-level LLC resonant converter are analyzed in detail and design guidelines are presented. Energy harvesting has attracted increased attention recently. Energy sources are present all around us, such as, mechanical vibrations, stress, strain, waste heat, sunlight or room light, electromagnetic rays, and chemical or biological sources. Vibration generators based on piezoelectric elements have been highlighted as low-power sources; however, their output power is very low, around the milliwatt or microwatt level, and thus, improving their performance is necessary to make the generated power usable. This paper investigates the use of passive devices to improve output characteristics of the vibration generators. The proposed circuits are a resonator and a passive rectifier. The proposed resonator consists of a parallel inductor and capacitor for $LC$ resonance. The $LC$ resonance equivalently reduces the internal capacitor of the piezoelectric elements. As a result, the output voltage and power are increased compared with that of conventional circuits. In addition, a boost-type current-improving passive rectifier is applied as the passive rectifier. Aging of power system assets challenges utilities to maintain reliable service while minimizing their maintenance costs. Although malfunction of devices in the transmission or distribution networks can have catastrophic consequences, their failure is seldom unforeseen. Typically, the device aging occurs gradually over time until its health condition reaches a point of complete breakdown. The overall objective of this paper is to devise a non-invasive, online condition monitoring technique of circuit switchers for shunt capacitor banks. It aims to detect abnormal operation of these devices based on features derived from raw voltage and current waveforms, such that a predictive maintenance strategy may be employed before a complete failure occurs. The data analyzed in this paper are collected at a transmission capacitor bus, where the banks are equipped with pre-insertion impedance. Through a baseline range of values for selected parameters, the proposed technique is able to detect missing pre-insertion impedance during the capacitor energizing and failure of pre-insertion impedance switch out a few cycles after the energizing operation. Ferroelectric (FE) materials are being studied for a variety of applications in memory, logic, and neuromorphic computing, for which predictive models of FE polarization are essential. In this paper, we present a Monte Carlo simulation framework capable of predicting the dynamic, history-dependent response of an FE under arbitrary input waveforms. The simulation is developed by generalizing the physics-based nucleation-limited switching model for polarization reversal in a polycrystalline FE. Measured polarization reversal data from fabricated FE Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 capacitors are used to extract the statistical distribution of FE grains. After parameter extraction, the model is able to predict the dynamics of the FE capacitor without further calibration. Finally, the model is applied to characterize the dynamic response of FE–dielectric bilayer structures and quantify the reduction in memory window due to device variability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes a modular on-road wireless power transfer system with interoperable power adjustment mechanism. The paper is anticipated to enhance the capability of on-road charging during the movement of automated guided vehicles (AGV), by which the traveling mileage is increased, while the battery volume is decreased. The system design includes an interoperable power adjustment technique based on the detected impedance, and the moving position of AGV can be, hence, comprehended so as to facilitate the adjustment of the output power from each transmission module in a more flexible way. Through the investigation of on-road charging efficiency, all of coil magnetic analysis, misalignment charging evaluation, system stress simulation, and resonant characteristics investigation are performed. In this paper, we report a qualitative model of operation and energy release in pulsed dielectric barrier discharges (DBDs). We demonstrate that pulsed DBDs operate according to the “maximum power principle” and explain the relevant physical processes. Compared to experimental data, the proposed model allows an accurate estimation of the discharge pulse energy as a function of dielectric properties, electrode size, and pulse parameters (shape and voltage amplitude). In this paper, a modular topology is presented for generating high-voltage pulsed power. The proposed structure consists of Marx-type modules, which are based on the switched-capacitor (SC) concept. This module receives an input voltage and, depending on the requirement of the user, produces an output voltage either equal to the input or twice as much as the input voltage, which shows the flexibility of our model. The capability of the module to produce a doubled output makes it appropriate for applications with low input voltage sources. Also, the topology has the capability of generating combined wide and narrow pulses. The topology was simulated in MATLAB Simulink and a laboratory setup was built to test its operation. This paper proposes a novel single-stage double-layer saddle multipole field electromagnetic launcher (SSDFEL), which combines the characteristics of reconnection gun to achieve simultaneous linear acceleration and gyroscopic stabilization of the projectile. Since the saddle driving coils are divided into two layers, the magnetic field density inside the launcher is enhanced. The eddy current induced on the inner and outer surfaces of the projectile is greatly changed by the hollow cylindrical projectile with six symmetrical vertical slots twisted at a certain angle, and the projectile is simultaneously propelled to perform rotation motion and linear motion. In this paper, the electromagnetic field finite-element software is used to simulate and calculate this model. The simulation results indicated that the double-layer driving coil distribution has larger axial acceleration force and bigger circumferential torque than that of the single-layer driving coil distribution, the energy conversion efficiency has also been obviously increased, and there is an optimal initial twisted angle, which accelerates the projectile to the peak of rotation. To verify the results, an SSDFEL was established and tested. The experiment results confirm that the rotation performance can be affected by the initial twisted angle and a better launching effect is achieved than a single-layer distribution. This paper presents some discussions and findings related to the development of the capacitor bank-based pulsed power supply module (PPSM) for an electromagnetic induction coilgun (EIC). Three PPSMs were designed for a three-stage EIC to launch a 21.68-kg projectile at a minimum velocity of 20 m/s. The energy of the PPSM in the first, second, and third stages was 200, 100, and 100 kJ, respectively. Two light-triggered thyristors (LTT) were used as the main switches of the module. The synchronous behaviors of the series LTT, dump circuit, laser diode driver circuit, and protection scheme are analyzed and discussed. The PPSM was built and tested as an EIC system. The simulation results of the PPSM were in agreement with the experimental results. The peak current was about 42 kA at a maximum voltage of 10 kV as in the simulation. The maximum current in the 4-kV launch experiment was 16.47 kA. The velocity of the projectile was more than 25 m/s, which is consistent with the design goal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper analyzes the effects of shunt capacitors installed on the low voltage sides of 10/0.4 kV distribution transformers on the operation of these transformers. Using the results of an extensive measurement campaign, this paper compares: real and reactive power losses, secondary-side current, and primary-side apparent power before and after the installation of transformer capacitors. The following four cases of reactive power compensation are considered and discussed: adequate, conditionally adequate, and total compensation, as well as overcompensation. The presented analysis helps to identify transformer substations where the initial compensation should be changed or adjusted, in order to improve transformers’ operational performance. Voltage dependencies of real and reactive power demands of the transformer-supplied loads are taken into account, based on the previously identified load characteristics in the considered networks as well as voltage dependence of reactive power of shunt capacitors. This paper studies the current limiting behavior based on an air-core high-temperature superconducting transformer (HTST) and a group of inductor–capacitor series resonant limiters. The air-core HTST is composed of four same double-pancake type high-temperature superconducting coils made up of Bi-2333/Ag tape, and both of primary and secondary windings include two series superconducting coils. It plays the roles of inductive fault current limiting and transformation impedance; in addition, the magnetic flux saturation can also be avoided. Meanwhile, the inductor and capacitor series with the secondary winding of the air-core HTST in series resonance state are the conventional devices. The influence of them on the circuit can almost be ignored, because they are in series resonant state in normal operation. While the fault current appeared in the primary circuit, it will be limited by the impedance of the air-core HTST and the inductor without quench (the inductor and capacitor would quit the series resonant state). This paper is devoted to the design, implementation, and test of a low cost, modular, and reliable pulsed high-voltage (HV) converter (dc chopper). The distinct characteristics of the present prototype refer to: adjustable voltage amplitude up to 7 kV, amplitude drop less than 4‰ for $2 \times 10$ A output peak current at 5 kHz, adjustable pulse frequency up to 5 kHz, adjustable duty cycle between 1% and 10%, rising/falling time around 100 ns, and jitter about 10 ns. In principle, 1-kV modules based on a fast MOSFET each are combined in series to form a completely modular push–pull switch configuration. Contrary to sophisticated optical fiber-based insulation techniques, the driving low-voltage stage of the power supply is magnetically coupled to the HV stage. The low-voltage stage defines and schedules the HV pulses by means of a microcontroller. The 7 kV is equally distributed along MOSFETs due to balancing networks of passive components. Zener diodes in parallel with MOSFETs provide sufficient protection against overvoltages. This paper introduces an averaging control strategy of the phase-unit losses of modular multilevel converters (MMCs). The quantitative analysis of the MMC phase-unit loss distribution under unbalanced ac conditions is carried out by investigating the individual component of the MMC arm currents. It shows that the unbalanced arm currents will result in unbalanced phase-unit losses. To address this issue, this paper proposes a predictive closed-loop-control-based zero-sequence voltage injection method that results in much averaged loss distribution under unbalanced ac conditions. The essence of the new method is that it adjusts the three-phase sinusoidal references so that the unbalanced arm currents are fully utilized to average phase-unit losses. This paper proposes amorphous indium–gallium–zinc oxide thin-film transistors (TFTs) four-transistor-two-capacitor (4T2C) pixel circuit in combination with a top-anode organic light-emitting diode (OLED) for the use in 8K4K active-matrix organic light-emitting diode displays (AM-OLEDs). The proposed pixel circuit compensates for driving TFTs threshold voltage (${V} _{\textsf {TH}}$) shifts and mobility variations, ${V} _{\textsf {DD}}$ current–resistance (${I}$ – ${R}$) drops, and ${V} _{\textsf {SS}}~{I}$ – ${R}$ -induced rises. Both the positive and negative ${V} _{\textsf {TH}}$ of the driving TFT can be sensed by the proposed circuit. In this paper, we analyze the impact of the driving TFT compensation time for low gray levels. The current error rates are calculated when TFT mobility variations are considered. The proposed pixel circuit allows an increase in the compensation time to reduce the impact of driving TFT ${V} _{\textsf {TH}}$ and mobility variations on the performance of 4T2C pixel circuit. Conventional two-transistor-one-capacitor, five-transistor-two-capacitor, and proposed 4T2C pixel circuits are simulated and compared in this paper. The proposed pixel 4T2C circuit reduces the current error rates to below 5.79% when the ${V} _{\textsf {TH}}$ shifts of ±2 V, mobility variations of ±10%, ${V} _{\textsf {DD}}~{I}$ – ${R}$ drops of 1 V, and ${V} _{\textsf {SS}}~{I}$ – ${R}$ rises of 1 V are all considered. The challenging demands of pulsed electron beam devices (such as the GESA device) with respect to their pulsed power supply have led to the development of a new semiconductor-based Marx generator. At a maximum output voltage of 120 kV and 600-A pulse current for a duration of up to 100 $\mu \text{S}$ , stepwise arbitrary output waveforms are desired. A fast rise time of the generator is achieved by using fast switching circuitry, low inductance capacitors, and a low inductance stage arrangement. For low jitter triggering of all stages and efficient signal transmission, the generator uses an optical bus system for communication. Due to the inherent dynamic load characteristics of the GESA device, the generator features a fast overcurrent protection scheme. A pulsed electromagnetic inductive valve has been developed to achieve correct initial deposition of the propellant gas puff for the planar pulsed inductive plasma thruster. This paper aims to describe the method for modeling the valve. The most significant physical effects involved in the valve operation process are described by the electrical model, the magnetic model, the mechanical model, and the pneumatic model. These physical models are then linked together based on the couplings between them to form a complete multiphysics coupling model. In order to validate the proposed model, simulations and experiments are implemented for the prototype valve at different operating conditions. Response characteristics and throughput characteristics predicted by the model agree well with experimental data. The results demonstrate that the proposed model can be successfully applied to accurately capture the main performance of the valve. Nonlinear transmission lines (NLTLs) have been studied over the past several years to generate high-power radio frequency signals. Their operation consists of a lumped line based on the nonlinear behavior of the LC section components, capacitors or inductors, as a function of the applied voltage or current, respectively. However, considering high-power signals, the application of these devices using nonlinear ceramic capacitors as the capacitive lumped lines are restricted to frequencies around 100 MHz since at high voltages, parasitic impedances in the line structure limit the maximum operating frequency. On the other hand, the use of variable capacitance diodes has enabled the operation of NLTLs at higher frequencies. This paper provides the results of a study of NLTLs for RF generation based on silicon carbide Schottky diodes. The principle of operation and its simplified theory are presented. Initially, the voltage dependence of the diode capacitance is modeled. Experimental and simulation results are compared. Frequency oscillations around 200 MHz were generated. The extraction of the radio frequency energy is realized, and the radiation of the electromagnetic wave is performed using double-ridged horn antennas. Nanosecond and subnanosecond high-voltage pulses have used in new biological applications, such as cancer treatment using an ultrashort pulsed high electric field. For this treatment, the use of high-power pulsed electromagnetic wave has been proposed to obtain the required high electric field. This paper focuses on the design of a compact high-power pulsed electromagnetic wave generator using a nanosecond pulsed power generator for cancer treatment. We developed a pulsed power generator that continuously outputs multiple pulses via a nonlinear transmission line (NLTL) using magnetic switches. The NLTL comprises a ladder of capacitors and saturable inductors. The NLTL generates a pulse train by delaying the propagation of the pulse using the magnetic switch of each ladder. The frequency of repetition of the burst pulse is 13.8 MHz. The peak output voltage is 7 kV at the maximum input voltage of 28 kV. In order to generate high-voltage high-pulsed power, klystron modulators necessarily contain at least one capacitor bank charging structure supplying the energy to be released during the pulse. Conventional charging structures are based on ac/dc front-end units typically based on diode rectifiers combined with power charging structures operated in on/off mode as a second stage, producing prohibitive levels of grid flicker and harmonic contents on the ac grid side while operating at suboptimal power factor. These problems are usually corrected by both costly and spacious external grid compensators. Today, the increased demand on both accelerator peak power and pulselength (translating into higher average power), in conjunction with stricter regulations and standards represent additional challenges also in modulator design. An alternative method for capacitor bank charging, in a steady state allowing for the complete reduction of grid flicker as well as ac line current harmonics and reactive power, was presented by the authors in a preceding publication. This paper presents in further detail the benefits of the proposed power electronic structure and associated control scheme in the context of a review of other solutions suggested for constant power charging and flicker mitigation. This paper also contains a complete description of the proposed control scheme as well as further experimental results, including a thorough assessment of its performance under transient conditions. Voltage source converter (VSC)-based high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems have attractive advantages compared to classical thyristor-based HVDC transmission systems. However, VSC-based HVDC transmission systems are vulnerable to dc side fault, and expensive dc circuit breakers are required to protect them against dc fault. This paper proposes a control method of a dc fault-resilient VSC which can be protected against dc fault without using expensive dc circuit breakers. In the VSC configuration, several H-bridge modules are connected in cascade, so the voltage balancing control of several floating dc capacitors is required. In this paper, an appropriate control structure with the capacitor voltage balancing controller is proposed. The appropriate control algorithm for dc fault operation and recovery after dc fault is also proposed. PSCAD simulation results are presented to validate the proposed control structure under normal and dc fault operating conditions. A parallel hybrid modular multilevel converter (PHMMC) belongs to the class of modular multilevel converters, which have become potential candidates for high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission systems. Due to the circuit topology of a PHMMC, the dc bus voltage contains low-order harmonics and cannot be fully regulated at a constant dc voltage. The dc bus voltage, if not properly controlled, leads to improper power transfer and increases the magnitude of dc current ripple on the dc transmission line. This paper proposes a zero-sequence voltage injection (ZSVI)-based model predictive control (MPC) strategy to control the dc current/power flow and simultaneously minimize the dc current ripple. The proposed strategy takes advantage of a cost function minimization technique to determine and inject the optimal zero-sequence voltage components into the dc- bus voltage of a PHMMC system. This paper derives a discrete-time dynamic model of the dc transmission-line current and, correspondingly, develops a predictive model. The predictive model is used to inject the appropriate amount of zero-sequence voltage components to the dc bus reference voltage waveform. Compared with the existing triplen harmonics injection method, the proposed ZSVI-MPC strategy improves the performance of a PHMMC system in terms of minimization of the dc current/voltage ripple. Performance of the proposed strategy for a 21-level PHMMC-based HVDC station system is evaluated based on time-domain simulation studies in the PSCAD/EMTDC software environment. The reported results demonstrate superior performance of the PHMMC-HVDC station operating based on the proposed ZSVI-MPC strategy, under various operating conditions, as opposed to the existing triplen harmonics injection method. This paper investigates the applicability of averaged-value models (AVMs) for modular multilevel converters (MMCs) operating in a voltage-sourced converter-based-high-voltage dc (VSC-HVDC) grid. The AVM models are benchmarked by comparison with a detailed electromagnetic transient model of the grid, including a fully detailed MMC model. Analysis results show that the AVM is only effective as long as the capacitors are large enough to maintain nearly constant voltage across each MMC submodule. This paper also shows that previously developed MMC averaged models are not able to accurately simulate the transients under dc fault conditions. This paper introduces topology changes to a previously proposed averaged model that results in much improved simulation for such conditions. Modular multilevel converters (MMC) are presently the converter topology of choice for voltage-source converter high-voltage direct-current (VSC-HVDC) transmission schemes due to their very high efficiency. These converters are complex, yet fast and detailed electromagnetic transients simulation models are necessary for the research and development of these transmission schemes. Excellent work has been done in this area, though little objective comparison of the models proposed has yet been undertaken. This paper compares for the first time, the three leading techniques for producing detailed MMC VSC-HVDC models in terms of their accuracy and simulation speed for several typical simulation cases. In addition, an improved model is proposed which further improves the computational efficiency of one method. This paper proposes a vector control strategy for independent control of two permanent-magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) using a single four-leg inverter (4LI). An expanded two-arm modulation to obtain a balanced three-phase output voltage is described. This paper also proposes a method to compensate for the fluctuations in the neutral point voltage of two split capacitors in the dc link. Explicit model predictive control (eMPC) has been proposed to reduce the huge computational complexity of MPC while maintaining the performance of MPC. Therefore, this control method has been more widely employed in the automotive industry than MPC. In this paper, an eMPC is designed to perform a double-lane-change (DLC) maneuver. This task has been employed to demonstrate the efficacy of controllers in an autonomous driving situation. In this sense, the proposed controller shows better performance than a driver model designed in CarSim at a high vehicle longitudinal velocity. The main contribution of this paper is to present an eMPC for discrete-time linear time-variant (LTV) systems so that the proposed controller can be robust against parameter variation. In a state-space representation of the vehicle, the longitudinal velocity of the vehicle is assumed to be a constant so that the whole system is linear time-invariant (LTI). However, it is inevitable that this velocity varies in an actual driving situation. Therefore, an eMPC controller is designed using an add-on unit to consider the varying parameter without modification of the eMPC solution. The  power distribution network (PDN) of a high-speed printed circuit board requires a high-performance power supply. The total equivalent inductance above the top ground plane is an important part of PDN design and is regarded as Labove. In this paper, an inductance library for different structures of capacitor connections and capacitor sizes has been built, which is essential for PDN design. computer simulation technology (CST) and partial element equivalent circuit method are applied to obtain the shorted pattern design curves at various design data. The shorted pattern design curve means the total equivalent inductance varies with the distance between pad and ground plane. In addition, an approximate shorted model is established for a decoupling capacitor-mounted model, which will be convenient for us to get the inductance of Labove. This paper presents a multi-coupling wireless power transfer (WPT) system aimed at dealing with various charging requests simultaneously. The proposed WPT system is able to distribute the energy more reasonably based on the top priority principle applying a novel distribution algorithm. Besides, the proposed system has the ability to charge the load in both the constant current mode and constant voltage mode while detecting the state of charging without using the bidirectional wireless communication. Moreover, this paper also puts forward a current injection topology named capacitance buffer rather than the traditional capacitor array in order to alleviate the large demand of the capacitors with different values under different resonant frequencies. Impedance translation using passive N-path mixers has been used to achieve local oscillator (LO)-defined series bandstop and shunt bandpass filtering. In this paper, we generalize N-path filtering using a correlator-based approach and propose N-path passive mixers driven by orthogonal sequences. Such sequence-driven N-path filters can potentially reject or select signals based on their properties in the spectral, spatial, and code domains. Specifically, a Walsh-function (WF) sequence (WF-seq)-based N-path shunt filter is implemented, demonstrating the feasibility of shunt bandstop filtering using LO sequences other than nonoverlapping pulses. The WF-seq approach enables reconfigurable concurrent filtering at two different frequencies with shunt operation avoiding penalties due to the switch drive overlap. A 65-nm CMOS implementation achieves 20-dB rejection at one frequency and 14-dB rejection concurrently at two frequencies between 0.3 and 1.4 GHz. In this paper, a new circuit model is proposed to simulate plasma-induced damage (PID). It includes the two sheaths of the plasma, the blocking capacitor, and the RF power source coupled with the victim device. As a result, this model accounts for both the ac behavior of the plasma and the local voltage imbalance induced by differences in shading factors. The advantage of this approach, compared with the previous works, is that it can yield the waveform impinged by the plasma on the transistor gate, which is known to influence the amount of reliability degradation experienced by the device. Finally, this model is also utilized to elucidate the impact of a parasitic capacitance connected to the transistor gate on the extent of the PID inflicted on the victim device. This paper presents an effective approach to variability analysis of integrated capacitors due to manufacturing process uncertainty. The proposed approach combines the generalized polynomial chaos method for uncertainty quantification with the efficient floating random walk algorithm for capacitance extraction. For applications where detailed statistical descriptions are required, the method allows achieving a $1000 {\times }$ acceleration compared to standard Monte Carlo analysis. Nonlinear transmission lines (NLTLs) have been studied for high-power RF generation with good prospects of applications in pulse radars for remote sensing (SARs) and disruption of communications in the battlefield, for instance. In this paper, two 30-section hybrid NLTLs built using nonlinear inductors and capacitors (2.2- and 10-nF barium titanate ceramic capacitors with 10- $\mu \text{H}$ ferrite bead inductors) will be described. For the test, the line is fed by a negative input pump pulse generated by a 1 kV discharge of a 0.75- $\mu \text{F}$ storage capacitor via a fast 50-ns switching system composed by an insulated gate bipolar transistor switch and its gate circuit driver. In the hybrid line tests, using 2.2-nF ceramic capacitors the maximum soliton generation packet obtained on the middle section had a frequency of the order of 33 MHz with voltage modulation depth (VMD) of around 700 V. For every single shot, approximately 10 RF cycles with small damping were noted. With the hybrid line using 10-nF ceramic capacitors the soliton generation obtained on the middle section reached a frequency of the order 10 MHz, and VMD of around 200 V. The main conclusion from this experiment is that hybrid lumped NLTLs may be used to achieve RF in megahertz range with higher VMD compared their counterparts (i.e., capacitive or inductive lines) because of their stronger nonlinearity with the use of both nonlinear elements. This paper presents theoretical and experimental discussions on low-voltage-ride-through operation of a modular multilevel single-delta bridge-cell (SDBC) inverter intended for utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) systems. Modern grid codes require grid-tied inverters to provide dynamic grid support during grid-fault events by injecting reactive current. This paper discusses decoupled positive- and negative-sequence reactive-current control, focusing on asymmetric voltage sags with imbalanced magnitude and phase relationships. The main objective is to present a feedforward control method based on calculation of the zero-sequence current required for achieving power balance during normal and grid-fault conditions. Moreover, this paper demonstrates a practical method that minimizes overcurrent stress in the three inverter clusters by adjusting active power drawn from PV arrays. Experimental results on a three-phase 12.6-kVA system prove that the SDBC inverter is capable of seamlessly operating through asymmetric voltage sags. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
