Most Pentecostals, at least in the global South, believe that Satan and his demonic forces are responsible for much of the carnage and suffering that characterise life on earth. The broader context of the discourse is the challenge theodicy poses to Christian believers: if God is almighty and good, why do believers, just like unbelievers, suffer while living on earth? This paper aims to discuss Pentecostals' response: they blame evil as Satan's strategy to oppose God. They reason that his main goal is to handicap and double-cross creation because God threw him and his followers from heaven following his rebellion against the divine order. Thus, Satan is portrayed as the instigator of the first human couple, tempting them to sin, with all future generations implied by their choice and cursing human beings with a sinful nature at birth. Demonic forces employ human sinful nature to realise their ultimate goal, to separate humankind from the Creator by tempting them to sin while also threatening the rest of creation. This article investigates the Pentecostal theology of demonic forces in explaining the challenges posed by theodicy by comparing it to biblical data, using grammatical-historical exegesis and a comparative literature survey to evaluate their biblical grounding. It concludes that Pentecostals' belief in such forces are justified if the the New Testament narratives are accepted as divine revelation. However, some Pentecostal speculations about demons' origins, scope and reach are not biblically justified and complicates the response to theodicy, such as the origin of evil and its relation to human beings. The paper deals with the work Philosophia Sacra: Or The Principles of Natural Philosophy. Extracted from Divine Revelation, published in 1753 by the relatively unknown English clergyman Samuel Pike (circa 1717 - 1773). This work falls within the tradition of the so-called Mosaic physics, a specific Early Modern endeavor to build natural philosophy based on a literal reading of the Holy Scriptures, particularly the first chapters of the book of Genesis attributed to Moses - hence the term "Mosaic." For this reason, at the beginning of the paper, the author seeks to introduce the fundamental ideas of this movement as expressed by its key proponents, namely L. Daneau, O. Casmann, and K. Aslakssøn. In the subsequent analysis of Pike's natural-philosophical conception, the author highlights its specific features, including obvious Newtonian influences on the one hand (Pike's work was written about a century and a half later than the texts of the 'founding fathers' of Mosaic physics and must have been influenced by the contemporary discourse). On the other hand, Pike's work exhibits strong, albeit implicit, similarities with the ideas of J. A. Comenius, another thinker associated with Early Modern Mosaic physics (and often considered its most significant representative, which are explored in the concluding part of the text. It can be said that Pike's work appears as a remarkable and highly original culmination of the Mosaic natural philosophy tradition, combining a range of seemingly unexpected, if not outright contradictory, motifs. Taking the cue from the recent developments in ecotheology and its concern with a sustainable world where humans, animals and plants may live in harmony with each other, this paper sets out to investigate the representation of nature in the Bible's origin story. The creation in Genesis is analyzed according to Arran Stibbe's ecolinguistic framework and "the stories we live by". The tools used (narratives, evaluations, frames, metaphors, erasure and ideologies) have illuminated an outstandingly popular story and highlighted its potential for meaning in the tension between contrasting worldviews: dominion vs. stewardship; innocence vs. knowledge; theocentrism vs. anthropocentrism. The analysis of narrative and linguistic elements suggests that the world beyond—represented by God, the heavens, the sky—coincides with the order within the whole of creation. The origin story proves deeply ambivalent as it features humans in two antithetical roles depending on the story's timeline: first as guardians of the created world and then as outcasts full of shame. Going against God's command is framed as an act of self-betrayal that breaks the unbreakable bond between humans and God, and subverts the perfect harmony of human society within the natural world. There is a growing interest in designing and building compact X-ray Free Electron Lasers (FELs) for scientific and industry applications. In this paper, we report an X-ray Regenerative Amplifier FEL (XRAFEL) design based on a proposed Ultra Compact X-ray FEL configuration. Our results show that an XRAFEL can dramatically enhance the temporal coherence and increase the spectral brightness of the radiation in the hard X-ray regime without increasing the footprint of the FEL configuration. The proposed compact, fully coherent, and high-flux hard X-ray source holds promise as a valuable candidate for a wide range of high-impact applications in both academia and industry. Concerned with the representations of fruits in Greco-Roman mythology and Genesis, this paper first explores the various meanings of charis and its conceptualization, and their embodiments. It then addresses object agency, before questioning the possible propriety of certain fruits in visual and textual narratives to emanate and/or appropriate charisma. To do so, the paper presents a discussion of the linguistic and conceptual mutability and malleability of the term 'charis' and its conceptualization into charisma, as well as its possible manifestations or translations in fruits, thus transforming the latter into (accidental) actors. Finally, this study provides an exploratory reflection on the ambiguity and metamorphic aspect of "charismatic" fruits in the context of myths and the Genesis narrative represented in the visual arts, and their translation into fairy tale narratives and modern advertising campaigns. In this paper, by the example of 3D model of enzyme reaction, we study mechanisms of noise-induced generation of complex multimodal chaotic oscillations in the monostability zone where only simple deterministic cycles are observed. In such a generation, a constructive role of deterministic toroidal transients is revealed. We perform a statistical analysis of these phenomena and localize the intensity range of the noise that causes stochastic P - and D -bifurcations connected with transitions to chaos and qualitative changes in the probability density. Constructive possibilities of the stochastic sensitivity function technique in the analytical study of these phenomena are demonstrated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Among so many fault basins around Ordos presenting good geothermal background, Yinchuan Plain is the key development and protection area of the Ecological and Economic Belt along the Yellow River in Ningxia and Yinchuan Metropolitan Area. The study of geothermal resources in this region is of great significance to the sustainable economic development of Yinchuan Plain. Most scholars suggested that Yinchuan Plain geothermal resources are low-to-medium temperature geothermal resources and have high value in terms of development and utilization due to their large reserves, good water quality conditions, and wide distribution. However, there is much controversy over the geothermal mechanism of this region. As an effective means to study geothermal mechanism, geophysical methods can be used to study regional basement uplift and structural distribution characteristics. Based on the discussion of regional geothermal geology background, this paper studies the distribution rules of Moho and Curie depths in the region by applying different geophysical data. The results show that the western margin of Yinchuan Plain is obviously uplifted. As inferred from the epicentral distribution of Yinchuan Plain section, there is a significant difference of the seismic bottom interface on the east and west sides of the Yellow River fault in Yinchuan Plain. The three-dimensional gravity inversion confirms basement uplift in this region. By referring to results obtained by the inversion of gravity and magnetic data and deep seismic exploration, the paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the regional geothermal geology conditions and proposes a geothermal conceptual model of Yinchuan Plain. The heat source comes from the earth heat flow and migrates to the thermal reservoir through the fault or fissure convection. The deep-large active faults provide a channel for deep heat flow to the shallow part, and the thermal fluid accumulates in the uplift area to form the high geothermal anomaly area. There should be two large-scale geological activities in the geotropics around Ordos. One is the basement uplift of the basins around Ordos platform, which provide the heat source. The other is the uplift of Ordos, which places the surrounding basin in an extensional environment and provides a channel for the heat source upwelling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

POWER (Social sciences) ,REPRESENTATIVE government ,PHARAOHS - Abstract
The story of the patriarch Joseph is a very recurring theme in medieval visual artistic Christian tradition. Joseph, Jacob's beloved son, is a prefiguration of Christ. The story in Genesis 41, 37–44 fosters the creation of two iconographic types: Joseph's investiture and Joseph on the Pharaoh's chariot. The narrative places patriarch Joseph in the court of the Pharaoh of Egypt. However, Christian visuality was created according to the iconic criteria for the representation of political power, contemporary to the configuration of both iconographic types. The aim of this paper is to study the visual mechanisms used in the iconic configuration of the iconographic types of Joseph's investiture and Joseph on the Pharaoh's chariot, when the monarch bestows upon Joseph the privilege of his trust. The iconographic analysis of some early and medieval examples of the artistic visuality of Joseph's story, in Eastern and Western traditions, confirms that they refer back to late ancient and medieval Byzantine tradition. Likewise, it was detected that the resources used in the visual configuration of both iconographic types are linked to the conventionalised mechanisms of the symbolic construction of power. Improving and homogenizing time and space reference systems on Earth and, more specifically, realizing the Terrestrial Reference Frame (TRF) with an accuracy of 1 mm and a long-term stability of 0.1 mm/year are relevant for many scientific and societal endeavors. The knowledge of the TRF is fundamental for Earth and navigation sciences. For instance, quantifying sea level change strongly depends on an accurate determination of the geocenter motion but also of the positions of continental and island reference stations, such as those located at tide gauges, as well as the ground stations of tracking networks. Also, numerous applications in geophysics require absolute millimeter precision from the reference frame, as for example monitoring tectonic motion or crustal deformation, contributing to a better understanding of natural hazards. The TRF accuracy to be achieved represents the consensus of various authorities, including the International Association of Geodesy (IAG), which has enunciated geodesy requirements for Earth sciences. Moreover, the United Nations Resolution 69/266 states that the full societal benefits in developing satellite missions for positioning and Remote Sensing of the Earth are realized only if they are referenced to a common global geodetic reference frame at the national, regional and global levels. Today we are still far from these ambitious accuracy and stability goals for the realization of the TRF. However, a combination and co-location of all four space geodetic techniques on one satellite platform can significantly contribute to achieving these goals. This is the purpose of the GENESIS mission, a component of the FutureNAV program of the European Space Agency. The GENESIS platform will be a dynamic space geodetic observatory carrying all the geodetic instruments referenced to one another through carefully calibrated space ties. The co-location of the techniques in space will solve the inconsistencies and biases between the different geodetic techniques in order to reach the TRF accuracy and stability goals endorsed by the various international authorities and the scientific community. The purpose of this paper is to review the state-of-the-art and explain the benefits of the GENESIS mission in Earth sciences, navigation sciences and metrology. This paper has been written and supported by a large community of scientists from many countries and working in several different fields of science, ranging from geophysics and geodesy to time and frequency metrology, navigation and positioning. As it is explained throughout this paper, there is a very high scientific consensus that the GENESIS mission would deliver exemplary science and societal benefits across a multidisciplinary range of Navigation and Earth sciences applications, constituting a global infrastructure that is internationally agreed to be strongly desirable. This paper attempts to perform a phenomenology of forgiveness by way of careful analysis of texts on time-consciousness and alterity by Edmund Husserl. It does so in two ways: first, by identifying the manner in which we give time to ourselves as both absolute and concrete subjectivity; and second by identifying the way in which our relation to other persons has an isomorphic, structural similarity with our self-relation as temporality. The final part of the paper engages with three biblical texts—the story of Joseph and his brothers in Genesis, where forgiveness is mentioned for the first time—and two short passages in the Gospels of Luke and John. Ultimately, the paper concludes that forgiveness of self and other occurs as a kind of pre-giving or fore-giving in the sense of opening up new meaning for us all to inhabit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LITERARY theory ,SOCIAL interaction ,ARTISTS' books ,SOCIAL space - Abstract
In this paper the author analyses the forms of space in Pierre Bourdieu’s field theory, looking in particular at the way they relate to one another and at the spatial aspects of the literary field in his book The Rules of Art: Genesis and Structure of the Literary Field. The first of these forms is what Bourdieu calls the “social space” and “social field”, each of these referring to a structure of positions that exists objectively yet does not exist (primarily) in physical space or real (physical) interactions between social agents. In order to make this structure intelligible, Bourdieu creates various spatial schemata that range from simple diagrams to sophisticated visualisations based on multiple correspondence analysis. The relationship between this structure and physical/ geographical space is a complicated matter, since relations in the social space or social fields will not necessarily coincide with actual spatial distances or proximities. Nevertheless, Bourdieu demonstrates – especially in the last period of his career – that it is necessary to study the relations among agents and the objectified forms of capital as they play out within physical/geographical space. The last part of the paper deals with the complicated relations of the three spatial aspects of Bourdieu’s field theory as they are applied to the literary field. In this respect, the most interesting part of The Rules of Art is the “Prologue”. In the rest of the book, spaces that are characteristically physical, such as salons and cafés, give way to non-spatial aspects of the literary field, above all literary texts, which Bourdieu conceives of as a privileged form of “position-taking” on the part of social agents. TRANSLATING & interpreting ,BIBLICAL translations ,SEMANTICS ,LITERARY sources ,HEBREW literature ,TRANSLATORS - Abstract
In Ghana, the Western missionaries who introduced Christianity into the country reduced some Ghanaian languages into written form and then translated the Bible into these languages. After the missionaries left the country, the task of Bible translation was continued by Ghanaians to make the Bible accessible to various linguistic groups in the country. Out of the numerous problems that Bible translators encounter in their work is the non-availability of a word in the receptor languages to carry the exact meaning of a word in the source language. This and other challenges sometimes lead to obscurity in the translated text and the resulting theology. Of interest to the present paper, is the translation of Genesis 1:26-27 into Akuapem-Twi mother-tongue. As an exegetical study, the source texts were semantically and morpho-syntactically analysed and their renderings in the Akuapem-Twi Bible were compared. The philosophy behind the texts under study in the Akan/Twi Bibles could be largely, formal or literal equivalence (word-for-word). Though in some instances in all the Twi dialects and some other instances, in one or two dialects, the translators employed the dynamic equivalence (thought-for- thought) approach. In each of the instances, the approach adopted has either aided or distorted the interpretation of the target text. The rendering of the text (Gen.1:26-27) in the Akuapem-Twi Bible presents deviations from the source text and should consequently be revised and reread. For instance, after a careful study of ancient (source) texts such as the Masoretic Text, Septuagint and Targum Pseudo-Jonathan and their comparison with the Akuapem-Twi Bible translation concerning Genesis 1:26-27, this paper argues that the Hebrew verb āsāh (v. 26), translated as bɔɔ, "created" could be rendered as yɔɔ/yɛɛ, "made" and the pronoun, 'ōṯo (v. 27), presented as wɔn, "them" should be interpreted as no, "him," in order to establish literary consistency with the source texts. CHRISTIAN identity ,SECULARISM - Abstract
This paper intends to argue for the necessity to preserve the Christian identity in the secular world, in which the believer is called to live in. The manifestation of this identity is seen especially in the area of ethics. It is analysed the way ethics is interpreted in postmodernism and in Christianity. On the one hand, the postmoderns want to equalize the biblical perspective on ethics, which supports the good and evil antithesis. Stanley Hauerwas talks about differences between Christian and Postmodern perspective in the area of ethics. The reader is invited to compare the two systems of moral values, and come up with some conclusions. It is demonstrated that Christianity bases its morality on Scripture. On the other hand, the postmodern perspective allows all the voices in the society to support their own view. The author presents the actual tendency to ignore the classical values, such as good and evil. There is also a tendency to remove guilt. In this paper it is argued that from the biblical perspective of moral antithesis is rooted in creation. The sacred text argue that because man ignored the divine commandment from Genesis 2:16-17, he committed a moral action with dramatic consequences for all human race. The biblical books written by the so called "Deuteronomistic School", are guided by the central idea of "blessings and curses". By doing good, man is expected to be blessed, and by doing evil, he is expected to be punished. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper mainly takes Zhacun goldmine as the research object and carries out research on the metallogenic system and genesis of the deposit in the area. The research methods are as follows: according to the geological characteristics of the metallogenic mining area in the Zhacun goldmine, combined with the comparative analysis of the metallogenic age, alteration characteristics and lithology between the Zhacun goldmine and the Lianhuashan alkali rich rock mass, and the analysis of the isotopic data in the Zhacun goldmine, this paper demonstrates that the magmatic activity of the Lianhuashan quartz monzonite porphyry plays an important role in the mineralization of this area, which is both an important ore source and fluid source. It is also the main heat source driving the circulation of ore-forming fluid. On this basis, through the analysis of the metallogenic elements in the area, the metallogenic system model of Zhacun goldmine is constructed. It is considered that under the action of long-term horizontal compressive stress, the atmospheric precipitation infiltrated into the formation continued to penetrate along the fractures and fissures to deep crust and finally mixed with the magmatic water sealed in the thick formation. During this period, a series of shallow and ultrashallow porphyry mass intruded, providing heat source and part of the ore-forming materials and resulting in incomplete homogenization under high temperature and high pressure, which formed highly mineralized mixed water. Under the combined action of long-term compressive stress and various deep thermal dynamics, these mineral fluids migrated along the buried deep faults near the core of the duplex anticline to the upper part of the crust. When the metal elements in these ore fluids migrated over long distances to the nappe fault zone of the gold-bearing fracture zone, the gold began to precipitate, and the native gold and the coarse-grained pyrite and quartz formed at the same time or earlier started to fill the fracture zone along the fissures and accumulate into minerals. Then, through the analysis of metallogenic conditions, gold mineralization process, and genetic mechanism of the deposit, it is proposed that the genetic type of the ore deposit in this area is magmatic mesothermal-epithermal gold deposit. The establishment of metallogenic system model in Zhacun goldmine will provide theoretical and practical guidance for deep and peripheral prospecting prediction in the area, carry out targeted and reasonable prediction, and improve prospecting effectiveness. This paper presents the chemical composition (including H
2 O and CO2 ) of matrix glass, melt inclusions in phenocrysts, and their host minerals in eruptive products from Aso caldera. We found a group of melt inclusions with clearly lower potassium (0.6–2 wt % K2 O at 50–70 wt % SiO2 ) than previously reported high-K2 O whole-rock compositions (3–5 wt % K2 O at 55–70 wt % SiO2 ). While most of the high-K2 O intermediate to felsic melt inclusions are vapor undersaturated and show the features of H2 O, CO2 , and K2 O accumulation, the low-K2 O basaltic melt already has higher H2 O and CO2 . We reconcile this discrepancy with a model in which (1) the volatile-rich basalt magmas degas near the surface, (2) migrate back to depths of |$\ge$| 12 km in the crust, and (3) crystallize feldspar and quartz to produce high-K2 O felsic melt, (4) magma mixing among the undegassed, degassed, and evolved magmas. By crystallization, about five times as much low-K2 O basaltic magma is required to produce high-K2 O felsic magma. The quantity of felsic magma ejected from 270 ka (Aso-1) to 90 ka (Aso-4) requires a basalt magma supply rate of 18 to 31 km3 /ka. This magma supply rate is comparable to or less than the present-day production rate of degassed magma (73 km3 /ka) at an active center of Aso, Nakadake. These findings suggest volcanic gas flux monitoring has the potential to be a 'basalt usage meter' during the dormant period of caldera volcanoes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Melchizedek is one of the most mysterious characters of the book of Genesis. As priest of God Almighty he blessed Abraham, the patriarch returning from war, and received tithes from him. The Epistle to the Hebrews presents Jesus Christ as high priest according to Melchizedek's priestly order, based on God's oath found in Psalm 110:4. While Christ's priestly order according to Melchizedek is higher than Aaron's priestly order, it is important to remember that Christ is greater than Melchizedek. In other words, Melchizedek derives his pattern from the preexistent Christ, and not the other way around. It is the purpose of this paper to bring to attention that the superiority of the characteristics of and blessings derived from Christ's priesthood according to Melchizedek's order is best understood only within this frame. While the science–religion debate on human creation has been widely explored in the Muslim world, Iranian Muslim opinions have been missed in the mainstream literature. To see whether they follow the lead of the majority of Muslim thinkers or not, here is an overview of the Qur'anic Perspective of Iranian Muslim Scholars. After reviewing the previously categorized approaches of Muslims encountering evolution mentioned in the literature, this paper will survey the Qur'anic verses related to the biological creation of man with the "scientific-lexical" method of all possible states. Afterward, the views of the most-cited Iranian scholars, such as Saḥābī, Ṭabāṭabā'ī, Muṭahharī, and Jawādī, will be located within this classification by citing reasons and textual pieces of evidence from their accounts that determine the differences provided by the majority of Muslims. This article examines the genesis of planning solutions and ceiling designs of Dunhuang cave shrines. Based on the methods of defining features, graphic-and-analytical and system-and-structural analysis, the spread of types of plans and ceilings from dynasty to dynasty has been traced. Using auxiliary methods of historical, mathematical, and comparative analysis, a general picture of the development of the planning structure and constructive schemes of Dunhuang shrines from the Northern Lian period to the Yuan period has been created. By counting the types of plans and ceilings in each period, a group of the most common types of plans was determined: with a combination of larger and smaller rectangles (where the smaller is the altar part of a square or rectangular shape), a plan in the form of a square with a protruding trapezoidal altar, an altar in outline close to a rectangle or trapezoids with rounded corners, a horizontally elongated plan rectangle, based on squares with protrusions. The most common type of ceiling is fu-dou-ding with modifications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The story of Noah is the story of a near-total biocide. And yet, in popular imagination, it appears as more of a floating petting zoo, a charming menagerie that follows the far more serious Edenic storylines of Genesis 1–5. In this paper, the ark, and midrash it inspired, acts as a guide for a set of speculations and arguments about the role Jewish philosophy might play during the present ecological disaster. These speculations are guided by the following claim: Jewish philosophy best responds to ecological crises when it does not attempt to provide an ecological ethics "out of the sources of Judaism"—making expansive normative and metaphysical claims—but instead explores enclosures and spaces; when it thinks about our relation to disasters, rather than trying to prevent or solve them. In other words, there is an element of Jewish thought which attempts to think enclosures and protect small but important things in the midst of disasters, and it is this I wish to highlight. My goal is to demonstrate that this kind of thinking presents viable possibilities for ecological thought. Specifically, I will argue that Mara Benjamin's work gives us an indication of where such philosophy can go and how it might get there. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the present paper is to trace the Nachleben of the logics characterizing the Adamic episode within the fictional reflection on human simulacra. In fact, Judeo-Christian ‘exclusive monotheism’ is based on the strict ontological differentiation of God, the unique Creator, from the World, as his Creation. Such a conception of monotheism is, as Jan Assmann pointed out, strictly connected to a repressive exercise of violence and to God’s opposition against every possible form of ontological rivalry. In the Genesis, Yahweh turns this law machinery even against his simulacra, the creatures made «in his own image»: Adam and Eve are removed from Eden and condemned to mortality only as a result of their attempt to become «like God, knowing good and evil». By means of a brief analysis of some exemplary literary cases, an attempt will be made to show how the fear and violence exercised by man towards his simulacra are deeply linked to a secular revival of the theological-juridical complex intertwined with the Adamic model. More than two years on, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc around the world and has battle-tested the pandemic-situation responses of all major global governments. Two key areas of investigation that are still unclear are: the molecular mechanisms that lead to heterogenic patient outcomes, and the causes of Post COVID condition (AKA Long-COVID). In this paper, we introduce the HYGIEIA project, designed to respond to the enormous challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic through a multi-omic approach supported by network medicine. It is hoped that in addition to investigating COVID-19, the logistics deployed within this project will be applicable to other infectious agents, pandemic-type situations, and also other complex, non-infectious diseases. Here, we first look at previous research into COVID-19 in the context of the proteome, metabolome, transcriptome, microbiome, host genome, and viral genome. We then discuss a proposed methodology for a large-scale multi-omic longitudinal study to investigate the aforementioned biological strata through high-throughput sequencing (HTS) and mass-spectrometry (MS) technologies. Lastly, we discuss how a network medicine approach can be used to analyze the data and make meaningful discoveries, with the final aim being the translation of these discoveries into the clinics to improve patient care. This paper provides understanding of the fire performance of exposed cross-laminated-timber (CLT) in large enclosures. An office-type configuration has been represented by a 3.75 by 7.6 by 2.4 m high enclosure constructed of non-combustible blockwork walls, with a large opening on one long face. Three experiments are described in which propane-fuelled burners created a line fire that impinged on different ceiling types. The first experiment had a non-combustible ceiling lining in which the burners were set to provide flames that extended approximately halfway along the underside of the ceiling. Two further experiments used exposed 160 mm thick (40-20-40-20-40 mm) loaded CLT panels with a standard polyurethane adhesive between lamella in one experiment and a modified polyurethane adhesive in the other. Measurements included radiative heat flux to the ceiling and the floor, temperatures within the depth of the CLT and the mass loss of the panels. Results show the initial peak rate of heat release with the exposed CLT was up to three times greater when compared with the non-combustible lining. As char formed, this stabilised at approximately one and a half times that of the non-combustible lining. Premature char fall-off (due to bond-line failure) was observed close to the burners in the CLT using standard polyurethane adhesive. However, both exposed CLT ceiling experiments underwent auto-extinction of flaming combustion once the burners were switched off. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Myths are open storylines that invite elaboration and modification. The flood narrative of Genesis 6–9, for example, has been readily employed to motivate endangered species protection and to reflect on the rising seas and mass extinctions associated with climate change. The distinctive features of any retelling of the Noah's ark story reflect the needs of historically situated and culturally embedded audiences. This paper focuses on four versions of Noah's story: in Genesis, in the Qur'an, at Ark Encounter theme park, and in Darren Aronofsky's film Noah. Analysis identifies the narrative choices that align each telling with its cultural context and draws out insights for adapting the story for the contemporary climate crisis. A conclusion addresses issues of race and racial injustice in traditional interpretations of Noah's story, and highlights approaches to redress those inequities in new imaginings of the flood narrative. The paper is devoted to the holy day of the Yezidis, Wednesday, and the Spring festival of Çar°emiya Sor. I propose an interpretation of the meaning of this day, pointing to the supposed relationship between the meaning of Wednesday and the description of 'fourth day' in the Old Testament tradition. I also show that the annual feast of Çar°emiya Sor, just like every Wednesday of the week, for the Yezidis commemorate the creation of the material world and subjecting it to the power of angels (especially to the Peacock Angel) and heavenly bodies. I rely mainly on the Yezidi sources and materials gathered during my own field research in Iraq and the South Caucasus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this contribution, we present the results of mineralogical investigation of the agates in Paleoproterozoic organic carbon-rich sedimentary rocks within the Onega Basin (Fennoscandian shield, Russia) aimed at reconstructing the agate-forming processes. Optical and scanning electron microscopy, EDS microanalysis, thermal analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and carbon isotope analysis were used for the study. Three main varieties of agates differing in morphology and texture were identified, including concentrically zoned nodules, fine-banded, and carbon-rich moss agates. Mineralogical evidence indicates the participation of hydrothermal fluids in agate formation. Concentrically zoned nodules could be formed due to the dissolution of carbonate concretions in the organic carbon-rich siltstones and their silicification as a result of late hydrothermal processes. Fine-banded vein agates occur in stockworks crosscutting organic carbon-rich rocks and are widely accompanied by sulfides, selenides, carbonates, sulfates, and iron oxides. Carbonaceous matter in moss agates is present as poorly ordered carbon and is characterized by a low δ
13 Corg value (−25.64‰), suggesting a biogenic origin. Raman spectroscopy data showed an elevated amount of moganite besides alpha quartz in the concentrically zoned nodules compared to other agate varieties, indicating different ages of the mineralization processes. We suggest that the revealed varieties of agates were formed at different stages of long-term hydrothermal processes occurring in the Onega Basin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Residue-level coarse-grained (CG) molecular dynamics (MD) simulation is widely used to investigate slow biological processes that involve multiple proteins, nucleic acids, and their complexes. Biomolecules in a large simulation system are distributed non-uniformly, limiting computational efficiency with conventional methods. Here, we develop a hierarchical domain decomposition scheme with dynamic load balancing for heterogeneous biomolecular systems to keep computational efficiency even after drastic changes in particle distribution. These schemes are applied to the dynamics of intrinsically disordered protein (IDP) droplets. During the fusion of two droplets, we find that the changes in droplet shape correlate with the mixing of IDP chains. Additionally, we simulate large systems with multiple IDP droplets, achieving simulation sizes comparable to those observed in microscopy. In our MD simulations, we directly observe Ostwald ripening, a phenomenon where small droplets dissolve and their molecules redeposit into larger droplets. These methods have been implemented in CGDYN of the GENESIS software, offering a tool for investigating mesoscopic biological processes using the residue-level CG models. Here, the authors report the development of heterogeneous domain decomposition with load balancing for large biological molecular dynamics simulations using residue-level coarse-grained models. On September 2nd, 2018 a devastating fire destroyed the Rio de Janeiro's National Museum entirely. Since the meteorite collection was distributed through three separated rooms, it was differently exposed to the fire. Located at the entrance hall, the Bendegó was only slightly covered by ashes, even the wood panel with its history plotted on paper remained intact. In the next room, all the meteorites at the exhibition "From Genesis to Apocalypse" were recovered among the ashes and some ceiling debris. These meteorites were then restored and are now in exhibition at the Rio de Janeiro's Planetarium. The main collection although, was housed at the technical reserve located at a badly affected room. It was recovered, many days after intense rains, under a mountain of twisted metal and fire debris from the collapsed upper floors and roof. It was not possible to identify some meteorites from many "meteorwrongs" sent by the public. Indeed apparently it was recovered more meteorites than were in the collection before. Posterior examinations select authentic meteorites from most fakes [1]. But also many real meteorites were damaged and are yet unidentified, due to the loss of many details, they don't match anymore with the archives data. Although the magnetic susceptibility be a very useful nondestructive measurement method for meteorite prior classification [2], this could not applicable with the rescued meteorites, as those magnetic signal has changed when the temperature reach beyond Curie point. So, an attempt for identification and classification of all the remained not identified samples is been performed using a Bruker Tracer 5i Handheld X-ray Fluorescence (HHXRF). First a series of calibration curves were performed using known meteorite bulk composition as standard, acquiring reasonable results that fitted into the Classification Diagram of Meteorites [3]. Initial results show that the relationship between Fe/Mn ratio and Ni content be a promisor as a fast meteorite classification method using a basic elemental HHXRF [4]. It fits very well especially with irons and achondrite meteorites. Other elements compositions ratios have also been tested. A refined classification using the EPMA, RAMAN and other equipment will be conduct only on selected samples of the collection. Regarding to H chondrites a careful investigation of these results must be carried out, considering the presence of metal and silicates in the same sample. The fabricant modes use two different types of algorithms for quantification considering Compton or matrix effects. We also realized that some meteorites are now, after three years, very weathered and need some specific not known care, friable meteorites like the Avanhandava, are disintegrating fast. Those meteorites give bad XRF results, probable due to porosity and weathering products as oxides and hidroxides. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Bangxi–Chenxing suture zone is an essential area from which information about the closure history of the eastern Paleo-Tethys Ocean can be obtained. The Darongshan granitoid, which is adjacent to this suture, lies among the widely distributed granitic rocks and few basic rocks in the southern Guangxi Province. Herein, we report the petrogeochemistry, zircon U–Pb ages, and zircon Hf isotopic data of the Darongshan pluton in this region. The LA-ICP-MS U–Pb zircon analysis indicates that the Darongshan pluton had formed at 249.9 ± 2.6 Ma. The Darongshan granites are silica-rich (Si O 2 = 65.68 – 72.91 wt%, mean = 69.89 wt%) with high Na
2 O contents (N a 2 O = 0.46 – 6.58 wt%, mean = 3.49), relatively high Mg (M g # = 35.12 – 73.31 , mean = 57.73), and an average Fe2 O3 T +TiO2 +MnO+MgO of 4.96. These features are similar to those of the Mg-andesitic/dioritic rock- (MA-) like tonalite–trondhjemite–granodiorites (TTGs). Chemical analyses show that all rocks are enriched in large-ion lithophile elements (Rb, Th, and U) and light rare earth elements, with weak negative Eu anomalies (Eu / E u ∗ = 0.27 – 0.67), and Ta, Nb, and Ti depletion, with typical arc-like affinity. The zircon Hf isotopic results show zircon Ɛ Hf t values ranging from -18.2 to -7.4 and the T DM 2 model ages 1.74–2.41 Ga. The petrogeochemistry and zircon Hf isotopic signatures indicate the magma generation of the Darongshan granitoid with fluid/melt released from the subducted slab and the fluid/melt assimilated and mixed with the mantle peridotite during ascent. Combining previous extant information on Permo–Triassic subduction/collision-related magmatism in the Bangxi–Chenxing with that of the Jinshajiang–Ailaoshan–Song Ma suture zones, the Darongshan granitoid is interpreted as a magmatic formation that was generated in an active continental margin arc environment during the subduction of the Early Indosinian eastern Paleo-Tethys Ocean and the South China Block, further supporting the idea that closure occurred during the Middle–Late Triassic. The Handmaid's Tale inhabits an imaginary space defined by biblical narratives and set in the near future, when low fertility has reached a critical point. The solution provided by the Bible-based totalitarian regime in Gilead is to offer "handmaids" as surrogate mothers to members of the ruling elite. The biblical basis is chillingly re-enacted through the set reading of Genesis 30:1-3 that precedes and legitimises the ritual rape of the household-dedicated handmaiden. While this text from Genesis clearly provides the rationale for addressing issues of fertility in Gilead, I focus here more specifically on how the book of Judges (specifically Judges 19-21) is marshalled to provide an implicit framework for The Handmaid 's Tale. This article analyses the complex ways in which the Bible is used and abused in both the novel and the fourth season of the TV series, using literary and feminist lenses. It will be argued that both narratives, the book of Judges and Atwood's tale, contain elements of subversion and deconstruction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The liturgy is one of the most important places in which people are formed theologically through components such as prayers, music, visual art, and preaching. Yet, depending on the theology that is expressed, the liturgy can be a place that heals or harms. Because LGBTQIA2S+ and nonbinary people are often excluded and made invisible in Christian worship, this article focuses on the importance of Christian congregational song and how—drawing from Nathan Myrick's work—it can be ethical for LGBTQIA2S+ and nonbinary people when it contributes to their flourishing. First is an articulation of a theology of "both/neither" which (1) acknowledges that LGBTQIA2S+ and nonbinary people exist, (2) is based on a sexually polymorphic reading of Genesis 1:27 and asserts that LGBTQIA2S+ and nonbinary people are made in God's image, and (3) celebrates difference, diversity, and multiplicity. Next is a discussion of how enacting a theology of "both/neither" in the liturgy creates liturgies of livability for LGBTQIA2S+ and nonbinary people, whereas when it is not, it inflicts liturgical violence. This article concludes by exploring examples from Christian congregational song that support liturgies of livability through their expression of a theology of "both/neither." [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Drawing from a variety of examples in world literature, this paper exposits a pervasive, diachronic literary motif in which an early human -- the mythic protohuman -- exists superior to contemporary humans, whose greatness is reflected in physical stature and aesthetic form, and whose eventual spiritual "fall" is physically manifested in diminished stature and deformity. Indo-European creation myths, the biblical Genesis, Swift's Gulliver's Travels, Stevenson's Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, and Tolkien's Middle Earth legendaria are examined in support of the thesis that Western literature has recapitulated the mythological notion that the archetypal ancestor possessed a quality and grace that has been slowly lost in time and is represented by a corresponding physical decay. This notion, then, when read as anagogical symbol, serves to furnish society with insights into reiterated social constructs preoccupied with human degeneration and decay, as well as questions about its beliefs concerning humankind's origin, nature, and destiny. BLESSING & cursing in the Bible ,BIBLICAL criticism - Abstract
The aim of this paper is to focus on the portrayal of Abraham in the letter to the Galatians and the book of Genesis respectively and to put it in perspective. What are the similarities and differences in the portrayal of Abraham in the Biblical books of Galatians and Genesis respectively? Three promises are made to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3: land, progeny and blessing. It is interesting that, in each one of the passages investigated, emphasis is laid mainly (but not exclusively) on one of the promises. In Genesis 12-25, attention is paid to the promise of land and on Abraham as a blessing to the nations, but the emphasis is mainly on the problem of progeny. When Abraham resurfaces in the exilic time, the promise of the land seems to be the primary focus. In Galatians 3, the main emphasis is on blessing as the third part of the promises made to Abraham. The ongoing debate surrounding human origins and the Bible is based on interpretations of various sections of the Bible, particularly Genesis 1-3, which are believed by some to contradict some of the tenets of the modern scientific consensus (e.g., common descent of diversification of species through change over time from a common ancestor, polygenism). This paper suggests that an interpretation of Genesis 2-3 in light of a close reading of the Hebrew text and the recognition of its ancient Near Eastern context demonstrates that the scientific consensus need not be in conflict with sound biblical interpretation. The astonishing use of the double infinitive absolute with the verb, attested only in Gen. viii 5, has not yet been explained satisfactorily. The present paper argues that this construction is neither a variant form of the periphrastic participle, nor that serves as a pluperfect. Instead, the two infinitives provide an adverbial modification for the main verb by specifically marking durativity and/or iterativity. However, precisely the combination with appears to be special. The past tense indicator, itself being semantically void here, has been employed instead of a full verb, even though such a full verb would normally be expected with this expression, in order to retrieve a piece of information given in Gen. viii 3 and move it from the background to the foreground. It is thus the information structure which conditions the author's decision to explicitly mark the durative Aktionsart. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An extreme Atlantic Niño developed in the boreal summer of 2021 with peak‐season sea surface temperature anomalies exceeding 1°C in the eastern equatorial region for the first time since global satellite measurements began in the early 1970s. Here, we show that the development of this outlier event was preconditioned by a series of oceanic Rossby waves that reflected at the South American coast into downwelling equatorial Kelvin waves. In early May, an intense week‐long westerly wind burst (WWB) event, driven by the Madden‐Julian Oscillation (MJO), developed in the western and central equatorial Atlantic and greatly amplified one of the reflected Kelvin waves, directly initiating the 2021 Atlantic Niño. MJO‐driven WWBs are fundamental to the development of El Niño in the Pacific but are a previously unidentified driver for Atlantic Niño. Their importance for the 2021 event suggests that they may serve as a useful predictor/precursor for future Atlantic Niño events. Plain Language Summary: Atlantic Niño is the Atlantic counterpart of El Niño in the Pacific, often referred to as El Niño's little brother. It was previously thought to have only regional influence on rainfall variability in West Africa, but a growing number of studies have shown that Atlantic Niño also plays an important role in the development of El Niño–Southern Oscillation, as well as in the formation of powerful hurricanes near the coast of West Africa. This study investigates the development of an extreme Atlantic Niño in the summer of 2021. Here, we show that the 2021 event was preconditioned by warm waters piled up near the South American coast, and then directly triggered by a westerly wind burst event that drove the warm waters eastward. The westerly wind burst event was driven by a patch of tropical thunderstorms that formed across the Indian Ocean and moved slowly eastward across the Pacific, South America, and the Atlantic, also known as the Madden‐Julian Oscillation. Westerly wind bursts driven by the Madden‐Julian Oscillation are fundamental for the development of El Niño in the Pacific, but a previously unidentified driver for Atlantic Niño, and thus may improve our ability to predict future Atlantic Niño events. Key Points: The extreme 2021 Atlantic Niño was preconditioned by a series of oceanic Rossby waves reflected into downwelling equatorial Kelvin wavesOne of the Kelvin waves was greatly amplified by an intense week‐long westerly wind burst event, initiating the 2021 Atlantic NiñoThe westerly wind burst was driven by the Madden‐Julian Oscillation, which is a previously unidentified driver for Atlantic Niño [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Volcanic arcs above subduction zones are thought to be the principal locations where juvenile magmatic crust forms and is refined to become continental crust with an andesitic composition. During this refinement mechanism, the formation of dense garnet pyroxenites (arclogites), represented by high-pressure cumulates and restites after partial melting, leads to the delamination of the lower arc crust. The Mercaderes-Río Mayo area in southern Colombia is the only known locality in an active volcanic arc where arclogitic xenoliths have been recovered. These xenoliths are entrained in the Granatifera Tuff, a late Cenozoic volcanic vent, and they mainly consist of garnet, clinopyroxene, amphibole, plagioclase, rarely scapolite, and accessory mineral inclusions of rutile, apatite, zircons, and quartz. Moreover, the arclogites are also characterized by the presence of melt inclusions (MI), which are mainly found within garnet, but can be also observed in amphibole, plagioclase, clinopyroxene, and scapolite. The glasses measured for the MI in garnet and scapolite typically have SiO
2 contents >57 wt.%, ranging from andesite to rhyolite in composition. Petrographic and geochemical investigations allowed to discriminate between cumulitic and restitic arclogites, with the latter showing the concomitant presence of primary MI and quartz inclusions within the peritectic garnets. Therefore, our study provides for the first time a strong evidence, at the microscale, for the anatectic origin of some arclogitic xenoliths. Pressure and temperature conditions for the studied arclogites were estimated by intracrystalline geothermometry, elastic geothermobarometry, phase equilibria modelling and classical Fe–Mg exchange between garnet and clinopyroxene. Results fall within the range of 960°C to 1150°C and 1.6 to 1.9 GPa for most samples. We suggest that the investigated arclogites derive from the root of the active Colombian volcanic arc, where differentiation processes from mantle-derived melts and lower crust anatexis occur in close association. ORE genesis (Mineralogy) ,PROSPECTING ,GOLD ores ,ORE deposits ,GEOGRAPHIC information systems ,REMOTE-sensing images - Abstract
Remote sensing is an essential tool for gathering vital information for the mining industry. With the latest advances in the field of remote sensing and the invention of software such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems), it is now the task of researchers to come up with different approaches of finding minerals that can reduce the cost of exploration. This research applied remote sensing techniques to Landsat 8 satellite imagery to extract geological information in southern Kelantan, Malaysia. The results produced images such as single band combination (RGB 6,5,2 and 5,4,2), band ratio (RGB 4/2, 6/7, 6/5) and principal component analysis (RBG from PC 123). The spatial survey revealed that the NE-SW line patterns and igneous rock distributions controlled the occurrence of the gold deposits. The generated map highlighted 2.40% of the total area as high potential zones recommended for further exploration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HUMAN migrations ,SAMARITANS ,BROTHERS ,CHRISTIANS ,SIBLINGS - Abstract
The complex and urgent migration crisis demands a proper framework to formulate and drive the appropriate solutions. In this study, the author attempts to present a theological framework on the roles of Christians to migrants grounded in the theme of "shamar" (שָׁמַר; keep), tracing it through the Bible, from the Old Testament to the New. We argue that welcoming (keeping) strangers originated from man's first mission by exegeting Genesis 2:15 and 4:9 (the primordial assignment in the creation narrative and the denial in the first murder). After the Fall, the task is passed to all descendants and is then explicitly included in the Law. In the New Testament, "shamar" and its meanings are further revealed through three characters: the Samaritan leper, the Samaritan woman, and the Good Samaritan. The Samaritans show us that one should see a migrant as not only a brother or sister but also as oneself and as a part of one's mission. One should see with an open heart and be ready to be converted. A Samaritan may not be just one who comes from Samaria; instead, one who practices "shamar"—welcomes strangers unconditionally. CORRIDORS (Ecology) ,PALEOZOIC Era ,PANGAEA (Supercontinent) ,KARST ,CONTINENTAL crust ,CONTINENTAL margins - Abstract
Copper mineralization in the Lower Paleozoic sedimentary cover of the Anti-Atlas (Morocco) is continually being revised not only to improve its mining capacity, but also to determine its origin, which remains a matter of debate. As evidenced by the various models proposed, the related research is fragmented, localized, and confusing. The origin of the Anti-Atlas Lower Paleozoic copper mineralization is shared between synergistic and epigenetic processes or a superposition of the two processes. Based on new tectono-magmatic data and a reinterpretation of the ore structural arrangement, we propose a link between the last concentration of copper deposits and the Late Triassic–Early Liassic CAMP (Central Atlantic Magmatic Province) tectono-thermal event, as evidenced by the significant concentration of copper mineralization in the three NE–SW corridors affected by extensional faults, some of which are filled with dolerite CAMP magma. The heat flow generated by the mafic dykes within these reactivated corridors causes mineralized fluids to up well into the sedimentary layers, depositing material rich in juvenile or leached copper, or even a mixture of the two. In some cases, these fluids are trapped by fracture systems that accompany passive folds initiated on normal faults. In other cases, these fluids can infiltrate bedding planes, and even karst caves, formed during carbonate exhumation. Notably, extensive NE–SW faults systematically cover the early Hercynian structures, suggesting that they belong to a post-Hercynian extensional episode. During the Late Triassic, the global fragmentation of the Pangaea supercontinent was manifested by the stretching of the continental crust at the margin of northwest Africa, with the simultaneous opening of the Central Atlantic Ocean and emplacement of CAMP magmatism. This last and often overlooked tectonothermal event must be considered in the remobilization and reconcentration of copper mineralization and other mineralization in Morocco. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
