This report describes the 7th European Judo Science & Research Symposium & 6th Scientific and Professional Conference - "Applicable research in judo" held in Poreč, Croatia on June 19-20, 2023. The two-day conference included three keynote speakers on the first day and 20 oral presentations divided into two sections. The second day included four practical sessions, which closed the program. The conference proceedings book was published, which includes 24 papers. The conference was again impeccably organised and had an outstanding return after the Covid-19 interruption, with many exciting topics presented by researchers and judo practitioners. Additionally, slightly more judo coaches and ex-athletes joined the conference, bringing us one step closer to tightening the gap between judo science and coaching. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Fifth Croatia Stuttering Symposium in 2022 continued the Fourth Croatia Stuttering Symposium 2019 theme of the connection between research and clinical practice. At the 2022 Symposium, there were 145 delegates from 21 countries. This paper documents the contents of the first of three Symposium modules. The module topic was that three treatments for early childhood stuttering are supported by randomized controlled trial evidence. A clinical situation was considered where a parent of a 3-year-old child asked what results to expect of stuttering treatment. A distinguished scholar presented a 5-minute video interpretation of the research concerning the randomized controlled trial evidence for the three treatments. Three master clinicians then each presented a 2-minute video demonstration of how those research findings might be applied in a clinical situation. In this paper, the authors point out important practical issues arising in the application of international treaties in Private International Law, such as the complex situations that may arise in connection with the entry into force of the treaty, the succession of international treaties, the hierarchy of international treaties, and an analysis of the common rule on the primacy of bilateral treaties. Besides, the need for reviewing existing bilateral treaties Law has been discussed as well, bearing in mind more efficient solutions envisaged in the conventions of the Hague Conference on Private International Law. Finally, the paper also indicates the specific cases where the innovated solutions of the new PIL Act of the Republic of Croatia and the Draft PIL Act of the Republic of Serbia are considerably more favorable than the binding multilateral agreement on determining the content of foreign law. Three master clinicians then each presented a 2-minute video demonstration of how that research might be applied in a clinical situation. The Commission for Academic Libraries of the Croatian Library Association proposed the first draft of Advocacy Strategy for Academic libraries at the 38th Assembly held in Osijek 2102. The importance of academic library advocacy was a frequent topic of discussion at various professional conferences and particularly at the 11th Days of Special and Academic Libraries held in in Opatija in 2011, which prompted the Commission to outline the draft proposal. In this paper the author analyzes the long-term effects of the proposed Strategy and refers to the best practices from other library associations. This report describes the 6th European Judo Science & Research Symposium & 5th Scientific and Professional Conference - "Applicable Research in Judo," held in Porec, Croatia, on June 12-14, 2019. The three-days conference included three keynote speakers on the first day which were followed by 12 presentations in two sections on the second day and a round table that closed the third and final day of the program. Proceedings book of the conference was published, which includes 17 papers. Although the conference organization was impeccable, the question remains how to further involve coaches in the conference and even more ignite their interest in science in judo to recognize the advantages that sports science could bring to their athletes and training processes. A conference paper about cartography in Croatia between 2007 and 2011, submitted to the 15th General Assembly of the International Cartographic Association (ICA) in Paris, France is presented. The paper discusses cartography as practiced by government agencies, universities and colleges and commercial establishments in the country. The activities of the Croatian Cartographic Society, Association of Geodesists of the Istria County and the Croatian Geographic Society are mentioned.

This paper describes and discusses overlapping interests and concerns of art and bioethics and suggests that bioethics would benefit from opening to contributions from the arts. There is a description of recent events in bioethics that have included art, and trends in art that relate to bioethics. The paper outlines art exhibits and performances within two major international bioethics congress programs alongside a discussion of the work of leading hybrid and bio artists who experiment with material (including their own bodies) at the ambiguous intersections between art, bio art and bioethics. Their work seeks to engage audiences in challenging ethical precepts and assumptions about life and existence. We consider the response of art and social theorists and compare these with the responses of bioethicists to comparable cases in bioethics. We note divergent views within the arts and within bioethics in relation to some pivotal questions including questions about what limits, if any, can apply in particular cases and on what basis. This approach allows for a transfer of information and perspectives, challenges assumptions in both art and bioethics and opens up a space for future exchange and dialogue along the shifting borders between these genres. • Perspectives about anxiety-related mental health issues with persistent stuttering. • Perspectives about when to begin early intervention for stuttering. • Perspectives about the issue of early intervention and anxiety. During the 2019 Fourth Croatia Clinical Symposium, speech-language pathologists (SLPs), scholars, and researchers from 29 countries discussed speech-language pathology and psychological practices for the management of early and persistent stuttering. This paper documents what those at the Symposium considered to be the key contemporary clinical issues for early and persistent stuttering. The authors prepared a written record of the discussion of Symposium topics, taking care to ensure that the content of the Symposium was faithfully reproduced in written form. Seven contemporary issues for our field emerged from the Symposium. Effective early intervention is fundamental to proper health care for the disorder. However, as yet, there is no consensus about the timing of early intervention and how it should be managed. Currently, clinical translation is a barrier to evidence-based practice with early stuttering, and proactive strategies were suggested for junior SLPs. Apprehension emerged among some discussants that treatment of early stuttering may cause anxiety. For persistent stuttering, assessment procedures were recommended, as were strategies for dealing with childhood bullying. There was agreement that SLPs are the ideal professionals to provide basic cognitive-behavior therapy for clients with persistent stuttering. The paper discusses laws on landscape protection by providing an analysis and evaluation of the status of landscape protection in Croatia, regulated by four laws, and its comparison to that of other European countries. The article discusses the highlights of the formal ceremony on the occasion of the completed production of the topographic map at the scale of 1:25,000 (TM25) held by the Croatian Cartographic Society in Zagreb on December 8, 2010. The ceremony was attended by 200 participants and guests from the political and scientific circles. The event featured a speech by State Geodetic Administration (SGA) director-general Željko Bačić, paper presentation and award ceremony.

Information about several papers discussed at the conference entitled "Musical Theatre as High Culture? Discourse on Opera and Operetta During the Late 19th Century" that was held in Zagreb, Croatia from November 24-25, 2006 is presented. Immediately after the Athens Convention relating to the Carriage of Passengers and Their Luggage by Sea was passed in 2002 the discussion on implementation and extension of the Convention on national carriages (cabotage) and on carriage of passengers in inland navigation started within the European Community, which some states criticized indicating numerous legal and economic effects that will emerge when the Athens Convention of 2002 comes into force. Taking the fact into consideration that the provisions of the Croatian Maritime Code have been applied to the carriage of passengers in inland navigation this paper aims at warning that in case of possible ratification of the Athens Convention of 2002 by the Republic of Croatia and introduction of its provisions into the Croatian Maritime Code result in automatic implementation of provisions of the Athen Convention of 2002 to inland navigation regardless of the fact that this is not the obligation by the EU Regulation. For this reason it would be advisable to regulate by a separate law passengers carriage in inland navigation as to avoid the situation that in the Republic of Croatia the Athens Conventions of 2002 is implemented to inland navigation before the agreement has been reached on its obligatory implementation in the EU states. It traces the history of medicine from its origin to human striving to overcome weakness and fight disease. This paper deals with the legal problems concerning the seafarers' working, living and social conditions and the activities of the International Labour Organization, analysing the attainments of the Maritime Labour Convention ILO 186. The particular consideration is given to the issuing procedure for the Maritime Labour Certificate and the Declaration of Maritime Labour Compliance as well as to the system inspecting the permanent compliance with the standards prescribed by the Maritime Labour Convention. The position of Croatia in the process of adapting international commitments and bringing them into conformity with national legal conditions is also analysed, together with its role as an active partner in solving the seafarers' working and social rights issues. It is important to say that the Republic of Croatia needs to ratify the Maritime Labour Convention ILO 186 as well as to bring into conformity the national regulations with the international sources according to the requirements of the maritime industry and the increased demand to provide decent working and living conditions for seafarers on board a ship.
