BackgroundFibromyalgia (FM) is a complex rheumatic disorder characterized by chronic nociplastic pain and central sensitization. Psychopathological conditions can influence FM symptoms, which worsen their condition. However, not all patients with FM have psychopathological disorders, indicating a heterogeneous population.ObjectiveTo investigate the psychopathological profile and personality disorders in patients with FM and its relationship impact on this disease.MethodsAn observational and cross-sectional comparative study was conducted with a sample of 90 women, mean age 48.7 years (SD = 8.12), from Hospital del Mar, Barcelona. The Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) and the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) were used for assessment.ResultsFM patients predominantly exhibited psychopathological profiles resembling affective disorders (37.7%) and Cluster C personality disorders (58.8%). The severity of FM’s impact was related to affective disorder symptoms, hypervigilance, derealization, somatization, and Cluster B personality disorder (emotional instability). Different rheumatic symptoms correlated with specific psychopathological patterns. Increased somatic symptoms on the FIQ were related to an unstable and dependent personality, while heightened emotional symptoms on the FIQ were associated with avoidance, borderline traits, and passive-aggressive reactions.ConclusionRecognizing psychopathological aspects is crucial for managing FM. The PAI is a valuable tool for establishing its psychopathological multidimensional profile, which predominantly shows an affective spectrum conditions and comorbid Cluster C personality disorder, exacerbating the disease’s impact.

Aims To analyse the measurement properties of the Spanish version of the COPM (Canadian Occupational Performance Measure) in older adult rehabilitation inpatients.Method A sample of 172 users from 17 inpatient care facilities for older adults (47% nursing homes) participated in a quantitative prospective study. We examined validity by correlating the COPM with the Barthel Index (BI), the Lawton Instrumental Activities of Daily Living scale (IADL), the EuroQol-five domains-three level questionnaire (EQ-5D-3L), and the Client-Centred Rehabilitation Questionnaire (CCRQ) and by examining associations with demographic variables. Reliability was evaluated through test-retest and responsiveness through differences in change scores in two types of care facilities.Results Participants prioritised 637 occupational performance problems, mainly in the area of self-care (70.5%). The COPM scale scores were significantly correlated with BI, IADL, EQ-5D-3L (except the pain dimension), and CCRQ (except the family involvement and continuity dimensions). COPM scores did not show statistically significant differences concerning educational level. Regarding reliability, high test-retest correlations were obtained (>.80). Nursing home users showed less responsiveness to rehabilitation than other users (change score < 2 vs. > 2 points).Conclusion and significance The Spanish COPM provides satisfactory measurement properties as a client-centred instrument in older adult rehabilitation inpatient.

Every year, the Test Commission of the Spanish Psychological Association promotes the assessment of the test quality of several published tests. The aim of the present study is two-fold: a) to present results for the eighth review, and b) to consider the contribution of the universities in this process. Ten experts, 332 students, and seven professors participated in this edition and the standard protocol for review was aligned towards a service-learning format. For the 11 tests assessed, results showed an adequate quality (average of 3.9 points on a 1-5 rating scale) similar to previous years (r = .90). The strengths were test development and standardization, and there were a number of proposals for improving other sections suggested. The service-learning approach contributed to the diversification of voices in the process, with students’ and experts’ reports showing similar quality and an expected level of agreement (r = .67). We conclude that this project has helped to identify the opportunity to further expand the use of shared language in order to strengthen the communication between the test publishers, the promoters of the Spanish model of test assessment, and the test users, especially in the case of beginners.

Objetivo: Identificar la frecuencia de cumplimentación del consentimiento informado y la prescripción facultativa en el expediente de personas mayores sometidas a restricción física, y analizar la asociación entre las características de estos usuarios y la ausencia de dichas garantías. Métodos: Estudio multicéntrico, descriptivo y transversal realizado mediante observación directa y revisión de expedientes en nueve residencias públicas, con un total de 1058 camas. Resultados: Estaban sometidos a restricción física 274 usuarios. El consentimiento no figuraba en el 82,5% de los casos y estaba incompleto en el 13,9%. IntroductionSchool victimization by peers is an important social problem with serious short- and long-term consequences poorly studied at preschool ages, which can lead to school bullying without timely intervention. Longitudinal data was used to determine the prevalence of warning signs of preschool peer victimization and its individual and family risk factors.MethodsData was obtained from 577 community preschoolers. School victimization was measured using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) administered to parents and teachers of children at ages 4 and 5. Risk factors for the child (demographics, conduct and emotional problems, aggressiveness) and the family (maternal problems during pregnancy and early development, parenting styles, adaptive functioning and parents' problems) were previously recorded at 3 years old.ResultsCombined information from parents and teachers showed that 4.2% of preschoolers presented warning signs of victimization at ages 4 and 5. Low socioeconomic status, poor emotional control, early problems making friends and low level of parenting education in social norms at age 3 predicted later victimization at ages 4 and 5 (AUC = .78).ConclusionPeer victimization affects a considerable percentage of preschoolers. Early detection may help to reduce the risk of escalation.

The present study is centered in adapting and validating a Spanish version of the Irrational Procrastination Scale (IPS). The sample consists of 365 adults aged 18-77 years (M = 37.70, SD = 12.64). Participants were administered two measures of procrastination, the IPS and the Decisional Procrastination Questionnaire, as well as the Big Five Inventory, and the Satisfaction With Life Scale. First, the factor and replication analysis revealed that the internal structure of the scale is clearly one-dimensional, supporting the idea that IPS seems to measure general procrastination as a single trait. Second, the internal consistency is satisfactory as is the temporal stability of the IPS scores. Third, the correlations encountered between the IPS scores and other measures of procrastination, personality traits and satisfaction with life are all in the expected direction and magnitude. Finally, consistent with previous research, procrastination is related to age, with the youngest being the most procrastinating group. This study represents the first attempt in adapting and validating the IPS measure of procrastination into Spanish. Results suggest that the Spanish version of the IPS offers valid and reliable scores when applied to adult population.

Los objetivos de nuestro estudio fueron: a) evaluar los estilos educativos en función de la presencia de discapacidad intelectual (DI) y de dos culturas, Chile y España; y b) valorar cómo estos aspectos se asocian con la psicopatología. Participaron 236 niños y adolescentes de 8 a 14 años de edad, que fueron clasificados en los siguientes tres grupos en función del tipo de DI: con síndrome de Down (SD), discapacidad intelectual idiopática (DII) o sin discapacidad. Los progenitores contestaron un cuestionario de estilo educativo y de psicopatología. Hallamos que en Chile el grupo con SD percibió menos sobreprotección. Las medidas clínicas de psicopatología se asociaron con sobreprotección, rechazo y la presencia de DI. Además los participantes chilenos informaron de mayor depresión y somatización que los participantes españoles. Esperamos que nuestros hallazgos sean un aporte para la prevención e intervención de los estilos educativos y la psicopatología en personas con DI.

Aims. To evaluate the long-term effects of two school-based prevention programs administered to a universal mixed-sex sample of school-going adolescents on disturbed eating attitudes, aesthetic ideal internalization, and other eating disorder risk factors, when compared to a control group. Methods. Participants were 200 adolescents aged 12–15 selected by means of incidental sampling from second-year compulsory secondary education at schools. An interactive multimedia media literacy program (ML + NUT, Media Literacy and Nutrition) and a program focused on the same topics using dramatic arts (Theatre Alive) were applied and compared with a control group. Pretest, posttest (1 month later), and 5- and 13-month follow-up measurements were taken. Analyses were conducted with two-way mixed 3×3 ANCOVA (group × phase) adjusted by baseline levels, body mass index, and sex. Results. Participants in both experimental groups showed significantly higher self-esteem scores than the control group over time. The ML + NUT group also presented lower aesthetic ideal internalization scores than the control group. Discussion. Both programs can benefit students’ self-esteem. Moreover, ML + NUT program was useful in reducing thin-ideal internalization. However, differences in body dissatisfaction and disordered eating attitudes were not found. The programs may be protective on the core psychological variables, which are essential to adaptive adolescent development.

Previous studies on developmental trajectories have used ad hoc definitions of oppositional defiant behaviors (ODB), which makes it difficult to compare results. This article defines developmental trajectories of ODB from ages 3-5 based on five different standard measurements derived from three separate instruments.A sample of 622 three-year-old preschoolers, followed up at ages 4, 5, and 6, was assessed with the five measures of oppositionality answered by parents and teachers. Growth-Mixture-Modeling (GMM) estimated separate developmental trajectories for each ODB measure for ages 3 to 5.The number of classes-trajectories obtained in each GMM depended on the ODB measure, but two clear patterns emerged: four trajectories (persistent low, decreasers, increasers/high increasers, persistent moderate/persistent high) or three trajectories (persistent low, decreasers, increasers/high increasers). Persistent high trajectories accounted for 4.4%-9.5% of the children. The trajectories emerging from the different ODB measures at ages 3 to 5 discriminated disruptive disorders, comorbidity, use of services, and impairment at age 6, and globally showed a similar pattern, summarizing longitudinal information on oppositionality in preschool children in a similar way.Trajectories resulting from standard scales of the questionnaires have predictive validity for identifying relevant clinical outcomes, but are measure-specific. The results contribute to knowledge about the development of ODB in preschool children.

AIMS: To contribute new evidence to the controversy about the factor structure of the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) and to provide, for the first time, norms based on a large adolescent Mexican community sample, regarding sex and area of residence (urban/rural). METHODS: A total of 2928 schoolchildren (1544 females and 1384 males) aged 11-18 were assessed with the EDE-Q and other disordered eating questionnaire measures. RESULTS: Confirmatory factor analysis of the attitudinal items of the EDE-Q did not support the four theorized subscales, and a two-factor solution, Restraint and Eating-Shape-Weight concern, showed better fit than the other models examined (RMSEA = .054); measurement invariance for this two-factor model across sex and area of residence was found. Satisfactory internal consistency (ω ≥ .80) and two-week test-retest reliability (ICCa ≥ .84; κ ≥ .56), and evidence for convergent validity with external measures was obtained. The highest attitudinal EDE-Q scores were found for urban females and the lowest scores were found for rural males, whereas the occurrence of key eating disorder behavioural features and compensatory behaviours was similar in both areas of residence. CONCLUSIONS: This study reveals satisfactory psychometric properties and provides population norms of the EDE-Q, which may help clinicians and researchers to interpret the EDE-Q scores of adolescents from urban and rural areas in Mexico.

Background: Physical restraint is often used during the hospitalization of elderly people. However, this procedure is associated with adverse outcomes; therefore, it is necessary to be aware of the circumstances that promote restraint use, such as the perceptions of professionals who use it., Objectives: The purpose of the research was to determine the situations in which nursing staff considered the use of physical restraint as most important and to evaluate the possible associations with the sociodemographic and professional variables., Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional multicenter study was carried out in 52 units of eight Spanish acute hospitals. A survey of registered nurses and nursing assistants was used to collect data related to sociodemographic characteristics, experience, training in restraint use, and the Perception of Restraint Use Questionnaire (PRUQ)-which assesses the perceived importance of reasons frequently given for the use of physical restraint., Results: The sample comprised 508 registered nurses and 347 nursing assistants. Almost all (98%) had used physical restraint, and 82% thought their training in the use of physical restraint was insufficient. Nursing assistants scored higher than registered nurses (p < .005, d = .68) on PRUQ total score and individual item scores, suggesting they thought the factors were more important in restraint use. Both registered nurses and nursing assistants considered restraint as most important in the prevention of falls and in the removal of medical devices such as intravenous lines and urinary catheters. Associations between PRUQ total score and other variables (unit type, sociodemographic factors, hospital) were nonsignificant., Discussion: The professionals considered restraint as very important in preventing safety problems. In order to improve the quality of care, it is essential to identify the factors that can have an effect on the application of physical restraint. Educational programs are of fundamental importance, but to be more effective in reducing the use of physical restraint, they should address commonly held views on rationale for restraint use and be accompanied by institutional policies promoting a restraint-free environment.
