BACKGROUND:Severe dengue with severe plasma leakage (SD-SPL) is the most frequent of dengue severe form. Plasma biomarkers for early predictive diagnosis of SD-SPL are required in the primary clinics for the prevention of dengue death. METHODOLOGY:Among 63 confirmed dengue pediatric patients recruited, hospital based longitudinal study detected six SD-SPL and ten dengue with warning sign (DWS). To identify the specific proteins increased or decreased in the SD-SPL plasma obtained 6-48 hours before the shock compared with the DWS, the isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantification (iTRAQ) technology was performed using four patients each group. In African endemic area, adults are less vulnerable to cerebral malaria than children probably because of acquired partial immunity or semi-immune status. Here, we developed an experimental cerebral malaria (ECM) model for semi-immune mice. C57BL/6 (B6) mice underwent one, two and three cycles of infection and radical treatment (1-cure, 2-cure and 3-cure, respectively) before being finally challenged with 10(4) Plasmodium berghei ANKA without treatment. Our results showed that 100% of naïve (0-cure), 67% of 1-cure, 37% of 2-cure and none of 3-cure mice succumbed to ECM within 10 days post challenge infection. In the protected 3-cure mice, significantly higher levels of plasma IL-10 and lower levels of IFN-γ than the others on day 7 post challenge infection were observed. Major increased lymphocyte subset of IL-10 positive cells in 3-cure mice was CD5(-)CD19(+) B cells. Passive transfer of splenic CD19(+) cells from 3-cure mice protected naïve mice from ECM. Additionally, aged 3-cure mice were also protected from ECM 12 and 20 months after the last challenge infection. In conclusion, mice became completely resistant to ECM after three exposures to malaria. CD19(+) B cells are determinants in protective mechanism of semi-immune mice against ECM possibly via modulatory IL-10 for pathogenic IFN-γ production.

Task performance is an important factor in promoting effective work management. In particular, Generation Z is gradually becoming important in the study of organizational behavior. This study explores the factors affecting the task performance of Generation Z employees. The data from 257 valid questionnaires were deployed and collected at enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City through a non-probability sampling method. PLS-SEM was employed, confirming that workplace autonomy, well-being, and perceived organizational support positively impact task performance. Accordingly, the findings provide a basis to propose managerial implications to promote task performance for businesses.

This study aims to measure the quality of life of people in Ho Chi Minh City. The study applied the word cloud technique to analyze the data from 30 in-depth interviews with practitioners and researchers on quality of life. Research results have identified the content of quality of life in the context of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, including the following domains: (1) health, including physical and mental health, (2) income, which emphasizes the role of welfare; (3) employment, with a distinction between formal and informal employment; (4) socialization; and (5) environment. Research results provide empirical evidence of breakthroughs in the pursuit of quality of life with relatively high weight on non-material aspects such as environment, and socialization due to the depreciation over time of material factors, and the appreciation in the value of non-material elements.

Sở hữu và vận hành một doanh nghiệp được xem là cơ hội đáng ao ước đối với người Việt Nam. Tuy nhiên, số liệu từ GSO (2021) cho biết tỷ lệ doanh nghiệp/dân số Việt Nam giảm mạnh xuống mức 8.3/1,000 từ mức 14.3/1,000 (GSO, 2019). Theo đó, nghiên cứu này tìm hiểu tiền tố nào tác động đến ý định khởi nghiệp, cụ thể là dựa trên lý thuyết thay đổi hành vi COM-B (Capabilities Opportunities Motivation-Behaviour) để khám phá vai trò của sự hỗ trợ gia đình, kỹ năng kinh doanh và chấp nhận rủi ro đối với ý định khởi nghiệp. Dữ liệu khảo sát được thu thập tại địa bàn Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh (TP.HCM) với 200 sinh viên đại học năm cuối. Mô hình cấu trúc - bình phương bé nhất từng phần (PLS-SEM) được áp dụng để đánh giá, kiểm định thang đo và giả thuyết. Kết quả nghiên cứu đã chỉ ra vai trò truyền thống của hỗ trợ gia đình cũng như kỹ năng kinh doanh đối với ý định khởi nghiệp. Ngoài ra, nghiên cứu cũng thể hiện một kết quả thú vị rằng chấp nhận rủi ro không có tác động có ý nghĩa thống kê đến ý định khởi nghiệp của sinh viên. Điều này gợi lên vấn đề cần quan tâm cho các nhà làm chính sách là sự thiếu kinh nghiệm khởi nghiệp và nhận thức sai lệch về các rủi ro khởi nghiệp trong thực tế của sinh viên.

Background: Dengue virus infection is a major public health problem. A hypothesis put forward for severe dengue is the cytokine storm, a sudden increase in cytokines that induces vascular permeability. Previous studies and our recent meta-analysis showed that IL-6, IL-8, IFNγ, TNFα, VEGF-A and VCAM-1 are associated with dengue shock syndrome. Therefore, in this study we aim to validate the association of these cytokines with severe dengue. Methods & Findings: In a hospital based-case control study in Vietnam, children with dengue fever, other febrile illness and healthy controls were recruited. Dengue virus infection was confirmed by several diagnostic tests. Multiplex immunoassay using Luminex technology was used to measure cytokines simultaneously. A positive association with dengue shock syndrome was found for VCAM-1, whereas a negative association was found for IFNγ. Furthermore, multivariate logistic analysis also showed that VCAM-1 and IFNγ were independently correlated with dengue shock syndrome. Conclusion: IFNγ and VCAM-1 were associated with dengue shock syndrome, although their role in the severe dengue pathogenesis remains unclear. Additional studies are required to shed further light on the function of these cytokines in severe dengue. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
