Abstract Background Postoperative wound recovery following laparotomy for port-site metastasis (PSM) resection is a concern. Reports indicate that wound healing disorders occur in patients with PSM. The challenges associated with PSM resection include the complete removal of the lesion, ensuring rapid wound healing, and maintaining the integrity of the abdominal wall. To date, there have been no reports on a minimally invasive approach for PSM resection following ovarian cancer through the inner side of the abdominal wall. Case presentation A 66-year-old G2P1 patient with a history of high-grade serous ovarian adenocarcinoma IIA presented with two abdominal wall masses, suspected to be PSM. She underwent laparoscopic resection of the lesions under general anesthesia. The excised masses measured approximately 10 cm and 5 cm, and margins were negative. The surgery lasted 1 hour and 33 minutes, with minimal intraoperative bleeding and no complications. The postoperative recovery was smooth. No recurrence was observed during the 12-month follow-up. Conclusions In our view, laparoscopy may be used as a minimally invasive technique that allows for PSM in the abdominal wall.

Objective(s): To study the anti-aging effect of (-)-α-bisabolol ((-)-α-bis) on the skin and preliminarily clarify its mechanism. Materials and Methods: Human skin fibroblasts (HSF) were induced senescence by D-Galactose. Senescence β-galactosidase staining was utilized to evaluate the senescence of HSF. TNF-α, IL-6, IL-8, IL-1β, CCL-2, CCL-5, and MMP-9 in senescence-as-sociated secretory phenotype (SASP) were detected by RT-qPCR. Meanwhile, aged BALB/c mice were applied topically with 0.5% and 2%(-)-α-bis gel for 30 days continuously to evaluate anti-aging parameters on the skin such as surface measurement, the Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL), and skin barrier index of dorsal skin. Then, HE staining, Masson staining, and IHC were applied to measure epidermal thickness, collagen fiber content in the dermis, and content of dermal collagen I, respectively. Last, SOD, MDA, and HYP contents of the back skin tissue of mice were also detected. Clean energy transition has become a key strategy in combating global air pollution. In 2017, China launched its “coal-to-gas” policy, which provided subsidies to households for their clean energy transition. While debates on this policy focus mainly on safety and cost concerns, few studies have examined the causal relationship between energy transition and its health benefits, particularly mental health. Using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey (CHARLS), this paper employs a difference-in-differences (DID) approach to estimate the impact of the “coal-to-gas” policy on the mental health of the rural elderly in China. The findings indicate that the policy significantly improved the cognitive status of the elderly, especially episodic memory, which saw a 10.4% increase relative to the sample mean. The policy also significantly boosted the proportion of households using clean cooking fuels by 5.8%. Further analysis suggests that the improved sleep quality from reduced indoor air pollution by household energy transition, as a mechanism, could explain these results. This study provides a timely assessment of the policy’s effectiveness, highlighting the importance of indoor air pollution control by household energy transition.

This paper takes landslide as a special research object. For the problems of landslide detection in remote sensing images, deep learning and playback method is adopted. Using the You Only Look Once v5 network (YOLOv5) in combination with the Gabor filter, its edge detection, detection anchor frame and small object detection scale are improved and optimized. The YOLOv5(ISODATA) model was finally established for landslide image detection by incorporating the edge control factor and four clustering algorithms (K-means, K-means + +, k-medoid, and Iterative Self-Organizing Data Analysis Techniques Algorithm (ISODATA) to evaluate the accuracy of the detection anchor frame and add small target large-scale sampling. Three target identification models – YOLOv5, Region Convolution Neural Network (R-CNN), and Fast R-CNN – are experimentally compared in order to assess the effectiveness of the proposed method. According to the results of experiments, the proposed method outperforms the other three detection models with an AUC of 0.921, a recall of 86.14%, and an MCC of 0.887. It further demonstrates the method’s positive impact on landslide remote sensing image recognition and its ability to solve related issues.

Abstract Introduction High baseline neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has been associated with positive responses to biologic tumor necrosis factor inhibition and negative responses to conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (csDMARD) triple therapy. Datasets from three randomized clinical trials in patients with RA were used to test the hypothesis that baseline NLR is associated with improved clinical response to filgotinib in methotrexate (MTX)-naïve or MTX-experienced RA populations. Methods Patients from FINCH 1 (inadequate response to MTX, MTX-IR; NCT02889796), FINCH 2 (inadequate response to biologic DMARDs; NCT02873936), and FINCH 3 (MTX-naïve; NCT02886728) were classified as baseline NLR-High or baseline NLR-Low based on a previously published cut point of 2.7. In total, 3365 patients were included across the three studies. Differences in clinical outcomes and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) were determined using linear-regression models. Results Control-arm patients (placebo + MTX/placebo + csDMARD) classified as NLR-High exhibited worse continuous clinical and PRO responses at week 12 across clinical trials compared to NLR-Low patients. In contrast, NLR-High patients who received FIL 200 mg + MTX/csDMARD exhibited consistently better responses after 12 weeks compared to NLR-Low patients across clinical trials, clinical endpoints, and PROs. These trends were most prominent among the MTX-IR population. Conclusion The 2.7 baseline NLR cut point could be used to enrich for patients most likely to benefit from the addition of filgotinib to background MTX/csDMARD. Use of baseline NLR as part of therapeutic decision-making would not require additional diagnostics and could contribute to improved outcomes for patients with RA. Abstract Background The current study sought to investigate the correlation between vitamin D supplementation in pregnant women with vitamin D deficiency in early pregnancy and the incidence of prenatal depression prior to delivery. Methods This is a retrospective, single-center study that was conducted at a tertiary hospital in Chengdu, China. We conducted an analysis on pregnant women who were initially diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency at 12–14 weeks of gestation. After starting vitamin D supplementation at a dose of 800 IU daily from 14 weeks onwards, we measured both their vitamin D concentration and depression scores again during median gestational week 39 prior to delivery. Results The study cohort comprised 1365 women who had been diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency at 12–14 weeks of gestation between November 1st, 2021 to November 1st, 2022. 537 pairs were matched based on a propensity score to control for other confounding factors. After propensity score matching, the baseline vitamin D levels were made consistent between the groups (P = 0.512). Introduction: Only 53% of American adults receive influenza vaccination, and disparities in vaccination exist among particular racial and ethnic groups. This study determines how race, ethnicity, sex, and rurality are associated with influenza vaccination adherence in a national Veteran Health Affairs Administration cohort. Methods: The authors examined differences in documented influenza vaccinations for the 2019–2020 influenza season among Veteran Health Affairs Administration patients in a retrospective cohort study using Veteran Health Affairs Administration administrative electronic health record data. The author used logistic regression to model receipt of influenza vaccination in association with race, ethnicity, sex, and rurality while controlling for clinical diagnoses, demographics, and ambulatory care utilization. The authors also stratified the models by sex and rurality. Results: Among 5,943,918 veterans, 48.6% received influenza vaccination. Unadjusted comparisons showed that those who were vaccinated were more likely to be White, to be of male sex, and to be older. Similar proportions of unvaccinated and unvaccinated veterans were from rural settings. In adjusted models, Black race was most strongly associated with decreased vaccination (AOR=0.69; 95% CI=0.69, 0.70), and American Indian/Alaskan Native race also had reduced odds of vaccination (AOR=0.94; 95% CI=0.92, 0.95) compared with White race. Female veterans had increased odds of vaccination (AOR=1.20; 95% CI=1.19, 1.20) compared with men. Rurality (AOR=0.97; 95% CI=0.96, 0.97) was associated with a small decreased odds of vaccination compared with urban. In stratified models, Black veterans were less likely to receive influenza vaccination regardless of sex and rurality than White veterans. American Indian/Alaska Native female veterans had equal odds of vaccination as White female veterans, whereas American Indian/Alaska Native male veterans had reduced odds of vaccination compared with White male veterans. Conclusions: During the 2019–2020 influenza season, Black and American Indian/Alaskan Native veterans had lower odds of vaccination. Despite the Veteran Health Affairs Administration's universal approach to healthcare, racial disparities still exist in preventive care.

IntroductionThis study aims to explore the incidence of different metastatic patterns in paraaortic lymph nodes and their corresponding survival outcomes in patients with endometrial cancer, as well as to identify the associated risk factors of such metastasis.Material and methodsPubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, International Clinical Trials Registry Platform, and Clinical Trials.gov were searched from inception to February 10, 2024.The analysis was conducted using R version 4.2.3.ResultsA total of 47 studies involving 33,425 endometrial cancer patients were analyzed. Meta-analysis results revealed that the rate of isolated paraaortic lymph node metastasis, where pelvic lymph nodes were negative but paraaortic lymph nodes were positive (PLN-PAN+), was found to be 2.58% (95% CI 0.0195-0.0329). The rates for PLN+PAN- and PLN+PAN+ were notably higher at 8.54% (95% CI 0.0642-0.1092) and 8.37% (95% CI 0.0613-0.1090), respectively. For clinical stage I EC, the occurrence rate was 5.92% for PLN+PAN- (95% CI 0.0258-0.1032), 1.00% for PLN-PAN+ (95% CI 0.0081-0.0120), and 2.99% for PLN+PAN+ (95% CI 0.0188-0.0431). The survival outcomes indicate a decreasing trend from the PLN-PAN+ and PLN+PAN- groups to the PLN+PAN+ group. Additionally, the survival outcomes of patients with isolated paraaortic lymph node metastasis appear to be comparable to, or not inferior to, those of the PLN+PAN- group. The analysis indicated that pelvic lymph node metastasis (OR 16.72, 95% CI 10.03-27.86), myometrial invasion ≥50% (OR 5.18, 95% CI 3.09-8.69), lymph-vascular space invasion (LVSI) (OR 3.46, 95% CI 2.49-4.81), cervical invasion (OR 4.00, 95% CI 2.09-7.66), and non-endometrioid cancer (OR 2.39, 95% CI 1.17-4.86) were risk factors for paraaortic lymph node metastasis.ConclusionsIsolated paraaortic lymph node metastasis, though relatively rare, can still occur even in clinical stage I endometrial cancer. The survival outcomes of patients with isolated paraaortic lymph node metastasis appear to be comparable to, or not inferior to, those of the PLN+PAN- group. ABSTRACT Background Bullous pemphigoid (BP) and atopic dermatitis (AD) are currently thought to be tightly related, yet studies of the mechanisms of co‐morbidities are lacking. Methods We obtained GWAS data for BP (N = 376,274) and AD (N = 796,661) from the Finnish Genetic Research Program dataset and the UK Biobank, separately. Then, the following four analyses were performed: (1) cross‐trait linkage disequilibrium score regression (LDSC) to assess the genetic correlation between BP and AD, (2) cross‐phenotype association analysis (CPASSOC) to identify multiple effector loci shared by BP and AD, (3) transcriptome‐wide association study (TWAS) to determine whether their cross‐organizational expression patterns share genes with a common biological mechanism of relevance, and (4) bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to assess bidirectional causal effects of BP and AD. Results We found a positive genetic association between BP and AD (rg = 0.5476, p = 0.0495) as well as identified four pleiotropic loci and 59 common genes affecting BP and AD. Bidirectional MR analysis suggested that BP promotes the risk of AD. Conclusions We revealed a genetic link between BP and AD, which is associated with biological pleiotropy and causality. Awareness of the association between BP and AD helps dermatologists manage patients with these illnesses.

Background There have been few large‐scale studies on the outcomes of cardiomyopathy‐associated heart failure (HF) in infants aged 1 year. Methods and Results A prospective observational study following 327 infant patients up to 5 years in 2 large pediatric heart centers in Northern China between January 2010 and December 2018. A total of 236 (72.2%) patients had reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) (HF with reduced ejection fraction group; LVEF 1 year were found to improve with medical therapies during the first year of diagnosis. Poorer outcomes were associated with decreased LVEF and increased heart size at diagnosis baseline, the presence of left bundle‐branch block and use of β blockers. The Northern Chinese pediatric population may have a high proportion of left ventricular noncompaction.

ObjectiveTo summarize stage migration and survival outcomes in patients with cervical cancer at Stage IIIC according to the 2018 FIGO staging system, and to investigate prognostic factors influencing Stage IIIC1.MethodsPubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP), and Clinical Trials.gov were searched from inception to February 6, 2024. The analysis was conducted using STATA 16.0.ResultsA total of 25 studies with 82954 cervical cancer patients were included in the analysis. The migration rates to FIGO 2018 Stage IIIC ranged from 18% to 37% for early-stage tumors (Stage IB to IIA) in FIGO 2009, and from 32% to 52% for advanced stage tumors (Stage IIB to IIIB). The overall survival (OS) for Stage IIIC1 is poorer compared to Stage IB1 (HR 0.53, 95% CI 0.35-0.80, p=0.003) and Stage IB2 (HR 0.61, 95% CI 0.43-0.85, p=0.004). It is comparable to Stage IB3, yet it shows better survival outcomes than Stages IIB (HR 2.91, 95% CI 1.01-8.39, p=0.047), IIIA (HR 1.96, 95% CI 1.78-2.17, p=0.000), and IIIB (HR 1.56, 95% CI 1.04-2.35, p=0.031). Tumors size ≥4cm (HR 1.45, 95% CI 1.10-1.92, p=0.00), metastatic lymph node ≥ 3 (HR 2.21, 95% CI 1.56-3.15, p=0.000) and T stage are prognostic factors for OS of Stage IIIC1.ConclusionsThe migration rates to FIGO 2018 Stage IIIC varied between 18% and 52% for patients initially classified under FIGO 2009 Stages IB1 to IIIB. The FIGO 2018 staging system underscores the pivotal role of lymph node metastasis in predicting prognosis and provides valuable insights into the distinct prognostic implications associated with different stages, particularly for early stages. For advanced stages, incorporation of tumor-related factors such as T stage might better elucidate survival differences and guide clinical treatment decisions.Protocol registrationCRD 42023451793.

BackgroundThe aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the lymph node ratio (LNR) and the prognostic values of gynecological cancer.Materials and methodsPubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and the Central Cochrane Library were used to search for studies on LNR and gynecological cancer published before 18 April 2024. The effect measure for meta-analysis of primary outcomes was the hazard ratio (HR) for overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and disease-free survival (DFS). Pooled HRs and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using random- or fixed-effects models. Sensitivity analysis was applied to evaluate the robustness of the results. The I2 statistic was used to measure heterogeneity. Subgroup analysis and meta-regression were chosen to illustrate the potential heterogeneity of the risk factors for outcomes. Publication bias was assessed using Egger’s test and Begg’s funnel plots.ResultsA total of 34 studies with 23,202 cases were included in this meta-analysis. A meta-analysis found that higher LNR was associated with worse OS (HR = 2.42, 95% CI: 2.07–2.83; I2 = 77.4%, p < 0.05), PFS (HR = 1.97, 95% CI: 1.66-2.32; I2 = 0.00%, p > 0.05), and DFS (HR = 3.18, 95% CI: 2.12–4.76; I2 = 64.3%, p < 0.05). Moreover, meta-analysis revealed significant differences in the association between LNR and OS of cervical cancer (CC) (HR = 2.53, 95% CI: 1.94–3.31; I2 = 72.6%, p < 0.05), ovarian cancer (OC) (HR = 2.05, 95% CI: 1.66–2.54; I2 = 76.7%, p < 0.05), endometrial cancer (EC) (HR = 2.16, 95% CI: 1.48–3.16; I2 = 53.6%, p < 0.05), and vulvar cancer (VC) (HR = 8.13, 95% CI: 3.41–19.43; I2 = 57.2%, p < 0.05).ConclusionWe observed a clear association between higher LNR and poorer prognosis in our study of patients with gynecological cancer. Further prospective studies are warranted to determine the optimal LNR and whether LNR can guide adjuvant therapy use in gynecological cancer. It is essential to conduct further prospective studies to establish the optimal LNR threshold, determine the minimum threshold of lymph node removal, and investigate whether LNR can serve as a reliable marker for guiding adjuvant therapy choices in gynecological cancer.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/#recordDetails, CRD42024541187.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disorder distinguished by gradual depletion of motor neurons. RNA binding motif protein 5 (RBM5), an abundantly expressed RNA-binding protein, plays a critical role in the process of cellular death. However, little is known about the role of RBM5 in the pathogenesis of ALS. Here, we found that RBM5 was upregulated in ALS hSOD1G93A-NSC34 cell models and hSOD1G93A mice due to a reduction of miR-141–5p. The upregulation of RBM5 increased the apoptosis of motor neurons by inhibiting Rac1-mediated neuroprotection. In contrast, genetic knockdown of RBM5 rescued motor neurons from hSOD1G93A-induced degeneration by activating Rac1 signaling. The neuroprotective effect of RBM5-knockdown was significantly inhibited by the Rac1 inhibitor, NSC23766. These findings suggest that RBM5 could potentially serve as a therapeutic target in ALS by activating the Rac1 signalling.

ObjectiveUterine inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (UIMT) is a rare tumor of the female reproductive tract with uncertain malignant potential. Previous case series reports have limited our understanding of its diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, we conducted a retrospective analysis of patient files at West China Second University Hospital, Sichuan University to contribute valuable clinical insights to future treatment strategies for this disease.MethodWe comprehensively reviewed patient files of individuals diagnosed with UIMT from January 1st, 2013 to May 1st, 2023.ResultsWe included twenty-seven cases of uterine inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor in our study. Of these, 51.85% (14 cases) were diagnosed with abnormal uterine bleeding, 2 cases had dysmenorrhea, and 12 were unexpectedly diagnosed with suspected uterine fibroids. Ten cases performed total hysterectomy, and 17 cases underwent lesion resection. The positive rate of anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) immunohistochemistry reached 96.3%. After a median of 8 months follow-up time, all patients were disease-free and had survived.ConclusionUterine inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor is easily misdiagnosed, making its diagnosis challenging. Histological features, immunohistochemical results, and molecular confirmation using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) or Next-generation sequencing should be used to confirm the diagnosis. Positive ALK immunohistochemistry, ALK rearrangement, ALK fusion are helpful in diagnosis and ALK inhibitor therapy. Total hysterectomy is often performed for women who do not require fertility, while lesion resection and close follow-up may be considered for those who require fertility preservation.

Background: Adults with cognitive impairment are prone to living alone in large numbers but receive relatively little attention. This study aimed to evaluate whether living alone with cognitive impairment was associated with a higher burden of functional disability but lack of informal care. Methods: 982 observations of adults living alone with cognitive impairment and 50,695 observations of adults living with others and with normal cognition were identified from 4 waves (2011/2012, 2013, 2015, and 2018) of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). A matched comparator was selected using propensity score matching (1:2). Functional disability included disability in Activities of Daily Living (ADL), Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL), and mobility. The time of receiving informal care was measured in monthly hours. Results: Adults living alone with cognitive impairment demonstrated significantly higher odds ratio of ADL disability (OR = 1.59, 95 % CI: 1.30, 1.95), IADL disability (OR = 1.19, 95 % CI: 1.00, 1.44), mobility disability (OR = 1.38, 95 % CI: 1.12, 1.70), but received fewer hours of informal care (β = −127.7 h per month, standard error = 25.83, P

Efficient prediction and precise depiction of heavy metal concentrations in urban soil are essential for mitigating non-point source pollution and safeguarding public health. Therefore, this research investigated the estimation of soil heavy metal concentrations derived from Gaofen-5 (GF-5) hyperspectral images calibrated by the direct standardization (DS) algorithm. The inversion strategy for soil heavy metal concentrations in response to the two-dimensional soil spectral index (2D-SSI) was proposed by coupling Pearson correlation coefficient (r) and competitive adaptive reweighting algorithm (CARS) for feature selection. The results indicated that the optimal models based on 2D-SSI outperform the models based on calibrated, filtered original spectral bands. For Pb, Cu, Cd, and Hg, the optimal model determination coefficients for the validation data set (RV2) were 0.871 (SVM), 0.883 (BPNN), 0.834 (PLSR), and 0.907 (PLSR), respectively. The spectral features were highlighted in the two-dimensional feature space, and the predicted distribution of heavy metal concentrations was aligned with the observed ground measurements. This study revealed that the prediction strategy based on DS-corrected GF-5 AHSI images with constructed 2D-SSI features can serve as a reliable technical approach for soil heavy metal prediction and pollution prevention.

Abstract Deep neural networks combined with superpixel segmentation have proven to be superior to high-resolution remote sensing image (HRI) classification. Currently, most HRI classification methods that combine deep learning and superpixel segmentation use stacking on multiple scales to extract contextual information from segmented objects. However, this approach does not take into account the contextual dependencies between each segmented object. To solve this problem, a joint superpixel and Transformer (JST) framework is proposed for HRI classification. In JST, HRI is first segmented into superpixel objects as input, and Transformer is used to model the long-range dependencies. The contextual relationship between each input superpixel object is obtained and the class of analyzed objects is output by designing an encoding and decoding Transformer. Additionally, we explore the effect of semantic range on classification accuracy. JST is also tested by using two HRI datasets with overall classification accuracy, average accuracy and Kappa coefficients of 0.79, 0.70, 0.78 and 0.91, 0.85, 0.89, respectively. The effectiveness of the proposed method is compared qualitatively and quantitatively, and the results achieve competitive and consistently better than the benchmark comparison method.

Objectives: We conducted a systematic analysis of the notifiable rickettsial diseases in humans in China during 1950-2022. Methods: We utilized descriptive statistics to analyze the epidemiological characteristics, clinical manifestations, and diagnostic characteristics of typhus group rickettsiosis (TGR) and scrub typhus (ST) cases. Results: Since the 1950s, there have been variations in the incidence rate of TGR and ST in China, with a downtrend for TGR and an uptrend for ST. The South became a high-incidence area of TGR, whereas the North was previously the high-incidence area. ST cases were concentrated in the South and the geographic area of ST spread northward and westward. The seasonality of TGR and ST were similar in the South but distinct in the North. Most TGR and ST cases were reported by county-level medical institutions, whereas primary institutions reported the least. Delayed diagnosis was associated with fatal outcomes of TGR and ST. Cases in low-incidence provinces, confirmed by laboratory tests and reported from county/municipal-level institutions had higher odds of delayed diagnoses. Conclusions: Our study revealed significant changes in the epidemiological characteristics of TGR and ST in China, which can provide useful information to enhance the control and prevention strategies of rickettsial diseases in China.

To investigate the effect of gelatin peptide on the inhibition of quality deterioration in stored pudding, gelatin peptide with antioxidant properties was added to pudding products. For this purpose, a pudding recipe containing gelatin peptides was created. The gelatin peptides were characterized based on their antioxidant activity and protein structure. It was found that gelatin peptides had better antioxidant properties, lower thermal stability and crystallinity, higher hydrophobic amino acid content, and greater surface hydrogen bond exposure than commercially available peptides. Properties such as the pH, colony growth, and sensory characteristics of the pudding were characterized at 4 °C and 25 °C. The results showed that the addition of 0.5–1.0 % gelatin peptide to pudding was capable of significantly (P < 0.05) slowing down the decline in pH and sensory scores of the pudding and significantly inhibiting colony growth. It could prolong its storage life by five days at 4 °C and three days at 25 °C.

BackgroundLocoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is an epithelial malignancy that primarily occurs in East and Southeast Asia, and it is associated with relatively poor overall survival (OS). Currently, there is no reliably effective standard treatment for NPC that progresses after first-line therapy with platinum-based chemotherapy.Case reportA 55-year-old woman diagnosed with stage IVa NPC received two cycles of platinum-based chemotherapy but encountered an increase in the size of cervical lymph nodes and suffered from adverse events. The patient was then switched to toripalimab plus cetuximab combined with radical radiotherapy and had a complete clinical response within 2 months following the completion of radiotherapy without severe treatment-related adverse events.ConclusionThis case report showed that toripalimab plus cetuximab combined with radiotherapy for the treatment of patients with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma may result in a fast and durable response with a manageable safety profile.

The landslide is a widespread and devastating natural disaster, posing serious threats to human life, security, and natural assets. Investigating efficient methods for accurate landslide detection with remote sensing images has important academic and practical implications. In this article, we proposed an LS-YOLO, a novel and effective model for landslide detection with remote sensing images. We first built a multiscale landslide dataset (MSLD) and introduced random seeds in the data augmentation to increase data robustness. Considering the multiscale characteristic of landslides in remote sensing images, a multiscale feature extraction module is designed based on efficient channel attention, average pooling, and spatial separable convolution. To increase the receptive field of the model, dilated convolution is employed to the decoupled head. Specifically, the context enhancement module consisting of dilation convolutions is added to the decoupled head regression task branch, and then the improved decoupled head is to replace the coupled head in YOLOv5s. Extensive experiments show that our proposed model has high performance for multiscale landslide detection and outperforms other object detection models (faster RCNN, SSD, EfficientDet-D0, YOLOv5s, YOLOv7, and YOLOX). Compared with the baseline model YOLOv5s, the AP of the LS-YOLO for detecting landslides has increased by 2.18%–97.06%.

This paper presents a hierarchical framework for on-road trajectory planning in complex traffic environments. Firstly, the processing of sparse coarse trajectories involves the utilization of DP (Dynamic Programming) generation and interpolation techniques. Then, for the waypoints with collision risk in the smoothed trajectory, the spiral search method is used to find some safe alternate waypoints. The alternate waypoints and the previous ones without collision risk form the amended trajectory. Concurrently, safety tunnels are constructed along the amended trajectory for the ego vehicle. Furthermore, with the constraint conditions of vehicle kinematics model and safety tunnels, nonlinear program (NLP) optimization is carried out for the amended trajectory of ego vehicle to obtain smooth and safe trajectories. For typical cases, simulation experiments demonstrate that the ego vehicle can ensure collision safety in dynamic traffic scenarios, while maintaining smooth vehicle velocity and small jitter of the front wheel angle. The proposed trajectory planning framework provides a novel decision-making method for connected and automated vehicles (CAVs).

Abstract Objectives To assess cigarette smoking’s effects on efficacy of the preferential Janus kinase (JAK) 1 inhibitor filgotinib and drug persistence in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods Efficacy in non-smokers, former smokers, and current smokers from phase 3 filgotinib trials was analyzed, including patients with inadequate response (IR) to methotrexate (MTX) or biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) or who were MTX-naïve. Proportions achieving Disease Activity Score in 28 joints with C-reactive protein (DAS28[CRP]) ≤ 3.2 were compared using logistic regression. Retrospective claims-based switching data were reviewed. Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM), one of the most serious long-term consequences of diabetes, is closely associated with myocardial fatty acid metabolism. Carnitine palmitoyltransferase-1β (CPT-1β) is the rate-limiting enzyme responsible for β-oxidation of long-chain fatty acids. Intermedin (IMD) is a pivotal bioactive small molecule peptide, participating in the protection of various cardiovascular diseases. However, the role and underlying mechanisms of IMD in DCM are still unclear. In this study, we investigated whether IMD alleviates DCM via regulating CPT-1β. A rat DCM model was established by having rats to drink fructose water for 12 weeks. A mouse DCM model was induced by feeding mice a high-fat diet for 16 weeks. We showed that IMD and its receptor complexes levels were significantly down-regulated in the cardiac tissues of DCM rats and mice. Reduced expression of IMD was also observed in neonatal rat cardiomyocytes treated with palmitic acid (PA, 300 μM) in vitro. Exogenous and endogenous IMD mitigated cardiac hypertrophy, fibrosis, dysfunction, and lipid accumulation in DCM rats and IMD-transgenic DCM mice, whereas knockout of IMD worsened these pathological processes in IMD-knockout DCM mice. In vitro, IMD alleviated PA-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and cardiac fibroblast activation. We found that CPT-1β enzyme activity, mRNA and protein levels, and acetyl-CoA content were increased in T2DM patients, rats and mice. IMD up-regulated the CPT-1β levels and acetyl-CoA content in T2DM rats and mice. Knockdown of CPT-1β blocked the effects of IMD on increasing acetyl-CoA content and on inhibiting cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and cardiac fibroblast activation. IMD receptor antagonist IMD17–47 and the phosphatidyl inositol 3 kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) inhibitor LY294002 reversed the effects of IMD on up-regulating CPT-1β and acetyl-CoA expression and on inhibiting cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and cardiac fibroblast activation. We revealed that IMD alleviates DCM by up-regulating CPT-1β via calcitonin receptor-like receptor/receptor activity-modifying protein (CRLR/RAMP) receptor complexes and PI3K/Akt signaling. IMD may serve as a potent therapeutic target for the treatment of DCM.

Abstract Women with HSIL typically undergo conization/LEEP to remove cervical lesions, but the risk of HSIL lesions returning after surgical treatment remains higher than in the general population. HPV vaccination is essential to prevent cervical cancer. However, the effect of prophylactic HPV vaccination on reducing the risk of recurrent cervical lesions after surgical treatment remains unclear. This review aims to analyze and summarize the latest literature on the role of prophylactic HPV vaccine in reducing the recurrence of cervical lesions after surgery in patients with HSIL, and to review and update the history, efficacy, effectiveness and safety of HPV vaccine, focusing on the current status of global HPV vaccine implementation and obstacles.

Abstract Background Psoriasis is an inflammatory disease mediated by helper T (Th)17 and Th1 cells. MicroRNA-125a (miR-125a) is reduced in the lesional skin of psoriatic patients. However, the mechanism by which miR-125a participates in psoriasis remains unclear. Methods The levels of miR-125a-5p and its downstream targets (ETS-1, IFN-γ, and STAT3) were detected in CD4+ T cells of healthy controls and psoriatic patients by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). In vitro, transfection of miR-125a-5p mimics was used to analyze the effect of miR-125a-5p on the differentiation of Th17 cells by flow cytometry. Imiquimod (IMQ)-induced mouse model was used to evaluate the role of upregulating miR-125a-5p by intradermal injection of agomir-125a-5p in vivo. Results miR-125a-5p was downregulated in peripheral blood CD4+ T cells of psoriatic patients, which was positively associated with the proportion of regulatory T cells (Tregs) and negatively correlated with the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score. Moreover, the miR-125a-5p mimics promoted the differentiation of Tregs and downregulated the messenger RNA (mRNA) levels of ETS-1, IFN-γ, and STAT3 in murine CD4+ T cells. Furthermore, agomir-125a-5p alleviated psoriasis-like inflammation in an IMQ-induced mouse model by downregulating the proportion of Th17 cells. Conclusions miR-125a-5p may have therapeutic potential in psoriasis by restoring the suppressive function of Tregs on Th17 cells through targeting STAT3, and on Th1 cells indirectly through targeting ETS-1 and IFN-γ.

ABSTRACTThis study investigated the effect of NaNO2 on inhibiting myoglobin-mediated lipid oxidation in muscle using a washed bovine mince model. We measured various parameters, including TBARS and PV to determine lipid oxidation, non-heme iron release, protoporphyrin destruction, and nitrosylmyoglobin production. The results of the study showed that the addition of NaNO2 during myoglobin-mediated lipid oxidation significantly reduced the fading and lipid oxidation of washed muscle (p < 0.05). Additionally, the addition of NaNO2 reduced the release of non-heme iron and the degradation of protoporphyrin in myoglobin. Nitrosylmyoglobin was formed in the washed mince supplemented with NaNO2 and myoglobin. These findings suggest that NaNO2 can effectively inhibit the lipid oxidation process induced by myoglobin, which could be a crucial aspect of nitrite inhibition of lipid oxidation in cured meat products. Overall, the study provides evidence for the potential use of NaNO2 as a food preservative to prevent lipid oxidation in meat products.

A crucial event in sexual reproduction is when haploid sperm and egg fuse to form a new diploid organism at fertilization. In mammals, direct interaction between egg JUNO and sperm IZUMO1 mediates gamete membrane adhesion, yet their role in fusion remains enigmatic. We used AlphaFold to predict the structure of other extracellular proteins essential for fertilization to determine if they could form a complex that may mediate fusion. We first identified TMEM81, whose gene is expressed by mouse and human spermatids, as a protein having structural homologies with both IZUMO1 and another sperm molecule essential for gamete fusion, SPACA6. Using a set of proteins known to be important for fertilization and TMEM81, we then systematically searched for predicted binary interactions using an unguided approach and identified a pentameric complex involving sperm IZUMO1, SPACA6, TMEM81 and egg JUNO, CD9. This complex is structurally consistent with both the expected topology on opposing gamete membranes and the location of predicted N-glycans not modeled by AlphaFold-Multimer, suggesting that its components could organize into a synapse-like assembly at the point of fusion. Finally, the structural modeling approach described here could be more generally useful to gain insights into transient protein complexes difficult to detect experimentally.

BackgroundObesity and dyslipidemia, major global health concerns, have been linked to psoriasis, but previous studies faced methodological limitations and their shared genetic basis remains unclear. This study examines various obesity-related and lipidemic traits as potential contributors to psoriasis development, aiming to clarify their genetic associations and potential causal links.MethodsSummary statistics from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) conducted for obesity-related traits (body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), and waist-to-hip ratio adjusted for the body mass index (WHRadjBMI)) and lipidemic traits (high-density lipoprotein (HDL), LDL, triglyceride (TG), total Cholesterol (TC), apolipoprotein A1 (apoA1), apolipoprotein B (apoB), and apolipoprotein E (apoE)) and psoriasis, all in populations of European ancestry, were used. We quantified genetic correlations, identified shared loci and explored causal relationship across traits.ResultsWe found positive genetic correlation between BMI and psoriasis (rg=0.22, p=2.44×10-18), and between WHR and psoriasis (rg=0.19, p=1.41×10-12). We further found the positive genetic correlation between psoriasis and WHRadjBMI(rg=0.07, p=1.81×10-2) the genetic correlation, in while the effect of BMI was controlled for. We identified 14 shared loci underlying psoriasis and obesity-related traits and 43 shared loci between psoriasis and lipidemic traits via cross-trait meta-analysis. Mendelian randomization (MR) supported the causal roles of BMI (IVW OR=1.483, 95%CI=1.333-1.649), WHR (IVW OR=1.393, 95%CI=1.207-1.608) and WHRadjBMI (IVW OR=1.18, 95%CI=1.047-1.329) in psoriasis, but not observe any significant association between lipidemic traits and the risk of psoriasis. Genetic predisposition to psoriasis did not appear to affect the risk of obesity and lipidemic traits.ConclusionsAn intrinsic link between obesity-related traits and psoriasis has been demonstrated. The genetic correlation and causal role of obesity-related traits in psoriasis highlight the significance of weight management in both the prevention and treatment of this condition.

Background: Psoriasis, a chronic skin condition characterized by systemic inflammation and altered gut microbiota, has been a target of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for centuries. Shenling Baizhu Powder (SLBZP), a TCM formulation, holds promise for treating inflammatory diseases, but its specific role in psoriasis and impact on gut microbiota is not fully understood.Objective: This study aims to elucidate the mechanism of SLBZP in treating psoriasis, integrating component analysis, network pharmacology, and experimental validation in mice models.Methods: We commenced with a detailed component analysis of SLBZP using liquid chromatograph and mass spectrometer (LC-MS). Network pharmacology analysis was used to predict the potential action targets and pathways of SLBZP in psoriasis. An in vivo experiment was conducted with psoriasis mice models, treated with SLBZP. Therapeutic effects were assessed via symptomatology, histopathology, and immunohistochemical analysis. Gut microbiota composition was analyzed using 16S rRNA gene sequencing.Results: A total of 42 main components and quality markers were identified, primarily from licorice and ginseng, including flavonoids, saponins and other markers. PPI topology analysis showed that TNF, IL-6, IL-1β, TP53 and JUN were the core DEPs. 168 signaling pathways including lipid and atherosclerosis, AGE-RAGE signaling pathway, IL-17 signaling pathway and Th17 cell differentiation were enriched by KEGG. SLBZP demonstrated significant therapeutic effects on psoriasis in mice, with alterations in skin pathology and biomarkers. Additionally, notable changes in gut microbiota composition were observed post-treatment, indicating a possible gut-skin axis involvement.Conclusion: This research has pinpointed lipid metabolism as a key pathway in the treatment of psoriasis with SLBZP. It explores how SLBZP’s modulation of gut microbiota and lipid metabolism can alleviate psoriasis, suggesting that balancing gut microbiota may reduce inflammation mediators and offer therapeutic benefits. This underscores lipid metabolism modulation as a potential new strategy in psoriasis treatment.

Abstract Using non-accidental mortality records from 195 sites and 11 model simulations from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 6, we assessed future avoidable heat-related deaths associated with emission mitigation after accounting for population changes in China. Without human-induced climate change in the 21st century, China’s heat-related mortality would drop by 48–72% (95% confidence interval (CI): 40–76%), especially at high latitudes and altitudes (up to 80%). Nationally, 15,576–87,612 (95% CI: 6605–106,736) heat-related deaths per year would potentially be avoided by reducing emissions. For most of China, temperature changes dominate the variation in heat-related deaths, while in Central and South China, population changes will have a greater influence. These not only reinforce the necessity of mitigating emissions but also suggest that adjusting population structure and spatial distribution could be applied in some areas to minimize warming impacts on public health. Notably, given that abatement will hardly bring immediate success within the next twenty years, more healthcare infrastructures are urgently needed to manage potential growing heat risks. Particularly in Northwest and South China, where future heat-related deaths would still be 110–140% of current levels (1995–2014) even without anthropogenic warming. We also found that without historical human-induced emissions, China’s low level of technology (medical and economic) might increase current heat-related mortality by 57%, even though warming could be mitigated. Consequently, we believe that mitigating climate change risks also requires consideration of the economic/medical losses from lowering emissions.

Abstract Signal regulatory protein alpha (SIRPα) is the receptor for cluster of differentiation (CD)47, a potent “don't eat me” signal for macrophages. Disruption of CD47‐SIRPα signaling in the presence of prophagocytic signals can lead to enhanced phagocytosis of tumor cells, resulting in a direct antitumor effect; agents targeting this pathway have shown efficacy in non‐Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and other tumor types. GS‐0189 is a novel anti‐SIRPα humanized monoclonal antibody. Here we report: (1) clinical safety, preliminary activity, and pharmacokinetics of GS‐0189 as monotherapy and in combination with rituximab from a phase 1 clinical trial in patients with relapsed/refractory NHL (NCT04502706, SRP001); (2) in vitro characterization of GS‐0189 binding to SIRPα; and (3) in vitro phagocytic activity. Clinically, GS‐0189 was well tolerated in patients with relapsed/refractory NHL with evidence of clinical activity in combination with rituximab. Receptor occupancy (RO) of GS‐0189 was highly variable in NHL patients; binding affinity studies showed significantly higher affinity for SIRPα variant 1 than variant 2, consistent with RO in patient and healthy donor samples. In vitro phagocytosis induced by GS‐0189 was also SIRPα variant–dependent. Although clinical development of GS‐0189 was discontinued, the CD47‐SIRPα signaling pathway remains a promising therapeutic target and should continue to be explored.

Abstract Background Choriocarcinoma coexisting with endometrial carcinoma is rare. To the best of our knowledge, only one case of choriocarcinoma coexisting with endometrial carcinoma has been reported. Case presentation Here, we present this case and provide a literature review. A 38-year-old unmarried nulliparous woman presented to the clinic with a menstrual disorder for more than 3 months. She then underwent a hysteroscopic procedure. The pathological findings were malignant, two types of carcinoma, and no transitional lesions were observed; about 85% of them were choriocarcinoma with smooth muscle infiltration and intravascular investigation of the thrombus; about 15% were highly differentiated endometrioid adenocarcinoma; Immunohistochemistry (endometrioid/choriocarcinoma): Vim (+ + / + + +), P40 (+ ±), CK5/6 multifocal ( ±), CK7 ( ±), EMA (+ ±), P16 multifocal ( ±), P53 (+ / + +), WT-1 (-/ + +), hCG (-/ + + +), CD138 (-/ + + +), Gly-3 (-/-), ER ( ±), PR (+ ±), Sall-4 (-/-), P21 (-/ +), P27 (-/ + + +), CyclinE (-/ + +), Ki67 positivity rate (10%/95%). We performed a laparoscopic hysterectomy, bilateral adnexectomy, and pelvic and para-abdominal lymph node dissection after five cycles of chemotherapy. She was diagnosed with choriocarcinoma with endometrial cancer, stage IVb choriocarcinoma and stage IA endometrial cancer. Postoperative radiochemotherapy was administered. The patient was disease-free 40 months after the treatment ended. Conclusion We report a case of choriocarcinoma coexisting with endometrial carcinoma and provide a literature review that may help inspire additional studies in the future.

Rapid development of electronic technology put forward high requirements for sustainable energy storage systems, and fiber supercapacitors have been considered as one of the prospective research fields. Herein, five metal oxides of Al2O3, Fe2O3, MoO2, NiO and ZnO are chosen as electrochemical active materials to prepare fiber electrodes as well as parallel fiber supercapacitors, respectively. According to the test results, ZnO fiber supercapacitor exhibits the optimal electrochemical performance among them, achieving 1.19 μF·cm−1 at the current density of 0.25 μA·cm−1. In addition, the electrochemical performance of parallel and twisted ZnO fiber supercapacitors are compared systematically so as to illustrate the effect of device structures on their electrochemical performance, and the twisted ZnO fiber supercapacitor shows higher capacitance retention and energy density than the parallel fiber device. Furthermore, the electrochemical cycling stability of parallel as well as twisted ZnO fiber supercapacitors are studied after 10,000 galvanostatic charge–discharge cycles, and parallel ZnO fiber supercapacitor presents better cycle stability owing to the simpler device structure. This work would provide effective evidence for the design and development of high-performance metal oxide-based fiber supercapacitors in the future.

BackgroundStudies evaluating the prognostic significance of lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI) in early stage endometrial cancer (EC) are conflicting.ObjectivesTo evaluate whether LVSI identified in stage I EC is associated with worse survival.Search strategyA comprehensive literature search of three databases (Embase, PubMed, and Cochrane) was performed up to April 30th 2023.Selection criteriaCohort studies that have evaluated the relationship between LVSI and prognosis in patients with stage I EC were included.Data collection and analysisTwo authors independently assessed the studies for inclusion, extracted the data of recurrence and survival, and conducted meta-analysis using random effects model. Heterogeneity was evaluated by I2 test.Main resultsA total of 15 studies involving 6,705 patients were included in the meta-analysis. The overall pooled rate of LVSI was 14% [95% confidence interval (CI) CI 0.09-0.18] in stage I EC. LVSI was significantly associated with a higher risk of recurrence [odds ratio (OR) = 2.79, 95%CI 2.07-3.77], reduced overall survival (OS) [hazard ratio (HR)=5.19, 95%CI 3.33-8.07] and recurrence free survival (RFS) [HR = 5.26, 95%CI 3.45-8.02] in stage I EC patients. Similarly, LVSI was associated with an increased risk of recurrence [OR= 3.10, 95%CI 2.13-4.51], decreased OS [HR=5.52, 95%CI 2.16-14.09] and RFS [HR = 4.81, 95%CI 2.34-9.91] in stage IA grade 1 or 2 endometrioid carcinoma patients.ConclusionThe presence of LVSI in stage I EC and in stage IA, grade 1 or 2 endometrioid carcinoma is associated with an increased risk of recurrence, lower OS and RFS.Systematic Review Registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/, identifier 42023425231.

Objective: This study describes a novel swine model of venous thromboembolism (VTE) with reflux-induced venous hypertension. Methods: Six pigs underwent disruption of the tricuspid chordae tendineae to create reflux and venous hypertension in the femoral vein. The vein was traumatized 2 to 3 weeks later by repeated withdrawal of a slightly overinflated occlusion balloon across the lumen, followed by balloon occlusion of the outflow. A small amount of thrombin was injected into the traumatized vein segment immediately after outflow occlusion. Thrombosis of the traumatized vein evolved into an organized thrombus seven weeks later. The histological features of the harvested post-thrombotic femoral vein were studied with hematoxylin and eosin and Trichrome stains. Results: In all six pigs, initial disruption of the chordae tendineae was successfully performed to create tricuspid reflux and venous hypertension. After two-stage sequential procedures, a thrombus formed in the target femoral vein segment. Histology of the harvested thrombotic vein showed features of an organizing thrombus with collagen formation and fibrosis. Conclusions: The novel swine VTE model may serve as a platform for developing and testing human-sized therapeutic procedures and devices in translational venous research. Clinical Relevance: This study describes a swine model of VTE created by incorporating all three elements of Virchow’s triad. The model uniquely incorporates reflux-induced venous hypertension, which may be used in studying venous insufficiency and VTE in those with systemic venous hypertension. Likewise, this model may serve as a platform for development and evaluation of diagnostic imaging or therapeutic procedures and devices in subjects with systemic venous hypertension.

AbstractLand desertification poses a severe global ecological threat. Loess Plateau, a typical region, was extensively studied. This study conducted a fitting analysis between the Vegetation Index: Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI), kernel Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (kNDVI), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Albedo. A holistic analytical methodology was established, encompassing desertification evaluation, spatiotemporal changes, intensity, driving mechanisms, and management zoning. The results indicate that NDVI and albedo exhibit the best fit with an R2 value of 0.72. Desertification primarily occurred in the northwest, displaying significant fluctuation. Climatic factors and human activities were the main drivers of Desertification Difference Index (DDI). Precipitation promoted DDI, while temperature inhibited it, and human activities primarily play a promoting role. Furthermore, management zones were delineated, encompassing ecological sensitive areas requiring urgent land protection, ecological restoration areas necessitating land management and restoration projects, ecological improvement areas and ecological stability areas aiming to maintain the existing ecological balance while concurrently strengthening monitoring.

The registration of multimodal satellite images is essential for a prerequisite for accruing complementary observational data. Nevertheless, the differential imaging nuances amongst non-linear radiometric multimodal images precipitate a complexity in keypoint detection, rendering it a great challenge. This complexity exacerbates the difficulty encountered in matching multimodal satellite images. In this paper, a dual-branch cross fusion network (DF-Net) is proposed for the purpose of satellite image registration. DF-Net relies on the self-attention granted to a pair of images, thereby providing cross-modal fusion feature descriptions. Initially, reference and sensed images are deployed as inputs for the dual-branch network, which in turn engenders feature descriptions of both high and low resolution, respectively. Sequentially, the matching of individual feature descriptions is anchored on the low-resolution feature map, paving the way for the establishment of coarse matching correspondences. Subsequently, the outcomes of these coarse correspondences are transposed onto the feature map with a higher resolution, thereby generating fine matching results for each coarse correspondence. An exhaustive set of qualitative and quantitative assessments have been administered on three satellite image datasets encompassing a diverse range of scenarios. The average Repeatability (Rep.), Mean Matching Accuracy (MMA), and Root-Mean-Square Error (RMSE) of the DF-Net applied to three large-scale satellite images were recorded to be 0.71, 0.65, and 2.34, respectively. These findings buttress the proficiency of the proposed strategy in facilitating cross-modal matching and bear testimony to the sterling performance of the method proposed.

Due to the good conductivity and adjustable mechanical properties, ionic conductive hydrogel is considered an ideal candidate for use in wearable electronic devices. However, maintaining good flexibility, conductivity, and high sensitivity of electromechanical performance, though highly desirable, remains a great challenge. In this work, a zwitterionic ionic conductive hydrogel (CMHZ: chitosan/polyacrylic acid-acrylamide/ZnSO4) was prepared with excellent mechanical properties, ionic conductivity, and high sensitivity. The CMHZ showed excellent adjusted mechanical properties (up to 1210% tensile strain under 0.15 MPa, toughness 5.42 MJ/m3) and good shape-recovery ability. Meanwhile, the free-moving metal ions in the hydrogel guaranteed the CMHZ with good conductivity (33.73 mS/cm). More importantly, the unique zwitterionic structure made the hydrogel have a wide working voltage range (0 - 2.0 V), which endowed the hydrogel with a significant improvement of sensitivity up to GF = 4.22. Based on these obvious advantages, the CMHZ hydrogel was used as a stretchable sensor demonstrated high-sensitivity physiological signal detection and motion direction recognition, suggesting wide potential in flexible electronic devices.

Background Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease, and topical sequential therapy with a combination of calcipotriol and calcipotriol betamethasone is currently approved topical treatment. However, the exact mechanism by which this treatment regimen relieves psoriasis is unknown. Method We assembled a cohort of 65 psoriasis patients and divided post-treatment cohort into responder group and non-responder group according to the Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI) score after 12-week treatment. We measured the expression levels of proteins in collected 130 serum samples using our in-depth proteomics platform with a data-independent acquisition mass spectrometer and antibody microarray. We performed bioinformatics analyses of the biologic processes and signaling pathways that were changed in the responder group and constructed a proteomics landscape of psoriasis pathogenesis response to treatment. Abstract MXene‐supported noble metal alloy catalysts exhibit remarkable electrocatalytic activity in various applications. However, there is no facile one‐step method for synthesizing these catalysts, because the synthesis of MXenes requires a strongly oxidizing environment and the preparation of platinum nanoalloys requires a strongly reducing environment and high temperatures. Hence, achieving coupling in one step is extremely challenging. In this paper, a straightforward one‐step molten salt method for preparing MXene‐supported platinum nanoalloy catalysts is proposed. The molten salt acts as the reaction medium to dissolve the transition metals and platinum ions at high temperatures. Transition metal ions oxidize the A‐site element from its MAX precursor at high temperatures, and the resulting transition metals further reduce platinum ions to form alloys. By coupling Al oxidation and platinum ion reduction using a molten salt solvent, this method directly converts Ti3AlC2 to a Pt‐M@Ti3C2Tx catalyst (where M denotes the transition metal). It further offers the possibility of extending the Pt‐M phase to binary, ternary, or quaternary platinum‐containing nanoalloys and converting the Al‐containing MAX phase to Ti2AlC and Ti3AlCN. Due to the strong interfacial interaction, the as‐prepared Pt‐Co@Ti3C2Tx is superior to commercial Pt/C (20 wt.%) in the hydrogen evolution reaction.

Objective: Real-time accurate venous lesion characterization is needed during endovenous interventions for stent deployment. The goal of this study is to validate a novel device for venoplasty sizing and compliance measurements.Methods: A compliance measuring sizing balloon (CMSB) uses real-time electrical conductance measurements based on Ohm’s Law to measure the venous size and compliance in conjunction with pressure measurement. The sizing accuracy and repeatability of the CMSB system were performed with phantoms on the bench and in a swine model with an induced post thrombotic (PT) stenosis in the common femoral vein of swine.Results: The accuracy and repeatability of the CMSB system were validated with phantom bench studies of known dimensions in the range of venous diameters. In 9 swine (6 experimental and 3 control animals), the luminal cross-sectional areas (CSA) increased heterogeneously along the PT stenosis when the CMSB system was inflated by stepwise pressures. The PT stenosis showed lower compliance compared to the non-PT vein segments (5 mm2 vs. 10 mm2 and 13 mm2 at a pressure change of 40 cm H2O). Compliance had no statistical difference between venous hypertension (VHT) and Control. Compliance at PT stenosis, however, was significantly smaller than that at Control and VHT (p < 0.05, ANOVA).Conclusion: The CMSB system provides accurate, repeatable, real-time measurements of CSA and compliance for assessment of venous lesions to guide interventions. These findings provide the impetus for future first-in-human studies.

Abstract Immunomodulatory Siglecs are controlled by their glycoprotein and glycolipid ligands. Siglec-glycolipid interactions are often studied outside the context of a lipid bilayer, missing the complex behaviors of glycolipids in a membrane. Through optimizing a liposomal formulation to dissect Siglec–glycolipid interactions, it is shown that Siglec-6 can recognize glycolipids independent of its canonical binding pocket, suggesting that Siglec-6 possesses a secondary binding pocket tailored for recognizing glycolipids in a bilayer. A panel of synthetic neoglycolipids is used to probe the specificity of this glycolipid binding pocket on Siglec-6, leading to the development of a neoglycolipid with higher avidity for Siglec-6 compared to natural glycolipids. This neoglycolipid facilitates the delivery of liposomes to Siglec-6 on human mast cells, memory B-cells and placental syncytiotrophoblasts. A physiological relevance for glycolipid recognition by Siglec-6 is revealed for the binding and internalization of extracellular vesicles. These results demonstrate a unique and physiologically relevant ability of Siglec-6 to recognize glycolipids in a membrane.

Abstract Background Retained products of conception can occur with induced abortion during early-term pregnancy, induction of labor during mid-term pregnancy, drug-induced abortion, miscarriage, cesarean delivery, or full-term normal delivery. Compared with traditional dilation and curettage, hysteroscopy is a safer and more effective treatment method for retained products of conception. This study aimed to report the efficacy of hysteroscopy for treating retained products of conception and to share our new clinical perspectives. Methods This retrospective, single-center study was conducted at a tertiary hospital in Chengdu, China. We included 36 patients with retained products of conception who underwent hysteroscopy at our hospital. Results Our study reported a complete removal rate of 80.5% (29/36) with one procedure. The normal menstruation recovery rate during 1 year of follow-up was 91.6% (33/36). A low rate of postoperative intrauterine adhesions (2.8% [1/36]) was also reported. Conclusion Our retrospective study elucidated the use of hysteroscopy for retained products of conception. We also shared new perspectives regarding hysteroscopy and optimal surgical methods for treating retained products of conception as well as our experience treating residual products with hysteroscopy. To our knowledge, no other study has shared similar experiences.

AbstractHigh-resolution remote sensing images provide complete and detailed ground scenes. However, these complex and diverse details make it difficult to interpret large area objects and their small area details at a single granularity. Therefore, the method proposed in this paper refers to the principles of visual working memory, visual attention and visual reasoning, independently analyse the ground objects of different granularities, and integrates the recognition results of the different granularity ground objects to form accurate classification results. This multi-granularity classification strategy suppresses noise interference, protects typical edges, and highlights clear details. Experimental results with dataset of real land use survey projects, including images of different time, multiple perspectives, and different altitudes, The results show that the idea of combining unsupervised edge detection with neural network classification can greatly enhance the generalization ability and edge cognitive ability, making the classification accuracy reach 80% on average, with an improvement of about 5%.

This study utilizes China’s records of non-accidental mortality along with twenty-five simulations from the NASA Earth Exchange Global Daily Downscaled Projections to evaluate forthcoming heat stress and heat-related mortality across China across four distinct scenarios (SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, SSP3-7.0, and SSP5-8.5). The findings demonstrate a projected escalation in the heat stress index (HSI) throughout China from 2031 to 2100. The most substantial increments compared to the baseline (1995–2014) are observed under SSP5-8.5, indicating a rise of 7.96°C by the year 2100, while under SSP1-2.6, the increase is relatively modest at 1.54°C. Disparities in HSI growth are evident among different subregions, with South China encountering the most significant elevation, whereas Northwest China exhibits the lowest increment. Projected future temperatures align closely with HSI patterns, while relative humidity is anticipated to decrease across the majority of areas. The study’s projections indicate that China’s heat-related mortality is poised to surpass present levels over the forthcoming decades, spanning a range from 215% to 380% from 2031 to 2100. Notably, higher emission scenarios correspond to heightened heat-related mortality. Additionally, the investigation delves into the respective contributions of humidity and temperature to shifts in heat-related mortality. At present, humidity exerts a greater impact on fluctuations in heat-related mortality within China and its subregions. However, with the projected increase in emissions and global warming, temperature is expected to assume a dominant role in shaping these outcomes. In summary, this study underscores the anticipated escalation of heat stress and heat-related mortality across China in the future. It highlights the imperative of emission reduction as a means to mitigate these risks and underscores the variances in susceptibility to heat stress across different regions.

Although green tea catechin has been reported to be an antioxidant and preservative in meat, the extent to which it affects the tenderization of bovine muscle remains largely unknown. This study seeks to evaluate the effect of catechin on the interplay between apoptosis and autophagy, and subsequently, the development of bovine muscle tenderness. The results indicate that catechin significantly alleviated oxidative stress. A concomitant reduction of autophagic markers LC3-II/LC3-I ratio, Beclin-1, and Atg7 levels were caused by catechin. Besides, aforementioned autophagy inhibition was further augmented by PI3K/Akt/mTOR activation. Additionally, catechin protected against mitochondrial dysfunction and inhibited mitochondria-dependent caspase apoptosis pathway. Furthermore, there was a reciprocal inhibition between autophagy and apoptosis. Ultimately, tenderness at 24 and 120 h, an increase in the gap between muscle fiber bundles, and disintegration of myofibrillar architectures were all inhibited by catechin. Therefore, despite alleviating oxidative stress, catechin may hamper tenderization pattern of postmortem bovine muscle.
