This article discusses the trends and challenges in the publishing industry, particularly in relation to digital solutions and technologies. It highlights the use of artificial intelligence and automation to improve efficiency and reduce costs, as well as concerns about content piracy and bias. Accessibility is also a focus, driven by regulations like the European Accessibility Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The push for open-access publishing is gaining momentum, but most scientific papers are still behind subscription paywalls. The article also explores the compatibility of the General Data Protection Regulation with the EU Artificial Intelligence Act and the potential of blockchain technology in publishing. It concludes by emphasizing the importance of following trends, valuing diversity and inclusivity, and experimenting with new digital content formats to succeed in the industry. In his 1979 essay The Postmodern Condition: A Report on Knowledge philosopher Jean-François Lyotard noted that the advent of the computer opened up a stage of progress in which knowledge has become a commodity. Modernity and postmodernity appear as two stages of a process resulting from the conflict of science and narrative. As science attempts to distance itself from narrative, it must create its own legitimacy. This paper takes up this challenge with a focus on the question of imagery. The image is precisely what modern science seeks to free itself from in its quest for absolute transparency. This transparency is examined from the perspective of architecture, drawing on arguments from philosophy, quantum mechanics, theology and information theory.

DIGITAL technology , *CRITICAL literacy , *INFORMATION literacy , *INFORMATION society , *TWENTY-first century , *SEARCH engines - Abstract
We live in a society in which every area of our activity is based on the access to relevant and up-to-date information. The majority of our daily activities are based on knowledge that we form thanks to the available information. Therefore, it is natural that today's society is referred to as a knowledge society and, despite their apparent decline, libraries continue to play an important role in it. The paper is devoted to the libraries' mission in the 21st century and points out several reasons why they can still be considered a relevant source of information. The aim is to highlight the current problems of search engines related to obtaining quality information in the digital environment. On one hand, the amount of digital information is considered enriching, but it is also necessary to take into account algorithms and the limitations of our information literacy and critical thinking. Matej Hrebenda Slovak Library for the Blind in Levoča (SLB) has a unique position and mission by providing its services to the blind, visually impaired, and people with reading disabilities. Since 2020, it has also become the Slovak authority for Braille, as demonstrated by its publications, magazines, and calendars. SLB also provides access to a number of audiobooks and audio magazines and cooperates with other institutions trying to make their expositions accessible to visually impaired visitors. However, constant developments in the field of digital and supporting technology have led to the need to expand its portfolio of services. The paper explains the importance of Braille and tactile graphics and describes efforts of SLB employees to provide them to those for whom they are essential in terms of personal development and everyday life. INDUSTRY 4.0 , *TECHNICAL information , *DIGITAL literacy , *DIGITAL technology , *LIBRARIES - Abstract
The fourth industrial revolution is reflected in the way we work and communicate today, as well as in the demands that society places on us. Constant development of digital technologies and the general digitalization of society point to the growing need for the development of digital competencies in order to fully participate in what is happening around us. The paper introduces the event Bibliospheres 2023, which offered approaches to dealing with the aforementioned changes in the library environment. The organizers and participants of the event point to the fact that not only schools, but also libraries are gradually innovating their spaces to enable the general public to educate themselves via creative workshops and smartlabs. With the support of the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information, libraries expand their equipment and portfolio of their services. It is a matter of linking libraries with practice via activities that are attractive as well as necessary for development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Manual processes and unsuitable tools Deskless workers make up the majority of the globalworkforce (analyst firm Gartner estimates there are 2.7billion frontline workers -- more than twice the number ofdesk-based workers), but they are often overlooked when itcomes to IT investments compared to office-based staff. Deskless workers are more likely to rely mostly on paper-based processes (15%) compared to desk-based workers (5%),according to a Skedulo survey of 500 deskless workers and500 desk-based workers in the US.
