The Government of Indonesia grants special autonomy to Papua Province based on Law No. 21 of 2001. Special Autonomy is expected to resolve political, legal, environmental, economic, social and cultural issues. However, the special autonomy granted resulted in misunderstandings, so that development was hampered. This study aims to develop an understanding of special autonomy as one of the concepts of human rights and environmental development in Papua. This study used a juridical-qualitative analysis method. The data were obtained using observation and literature study of the problems and a clear picture of special autonomy. Data analysis uses interpretation and evaluation models of existing regulations and concepts to sharpen the understanding of special autonomy at the maximum level of data abstraction. Data were analyzed using a deductive logic method based on secondary norms, theories, and doctrines. The study results indicate that special autonomy for the Papua Province is envrionemtal development and human right in internal selfdetermination, which is constitutionally guaranteed in the 1945 Constitution. Therefore, the Papuan people and the government can develop activities based on special autonomy without central approval and do not conflict with laws and regulations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The scientific goal is to explore (describe, understand and explain) socio-psychological aspects, i.e. the influence of sex, material status of the family, level of studies, success during studies and the type of study programs agency, on knowledge and attitudes towards the game, as a practice, of its meaning and functions, of motivation for gaming, and of propensity to games among students of social sciences and humanities at the University of Banja Luka and Istocno Sarajevo respectively (The Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina), in the 21st century. The definitions of the game and its significance and function are presented through the prism of modernist and postmodernist views, that is, sociological and psychological theories about the game. Motivation for participation in games is elaborated by means of the theory of self-determination, and the connection between motivation and inclination towards endless and final games is explained by Habermas' theory of communicative action. In addition to general scientific methods, a survey method is used to collect data utilising an online questionnaire (with a semi-closed answer system), an instrument created through the Google Forms application. Measurement, typology, and statistical method (processing of data by SPSS), along with a comparative method for interpretation of results, are used for arranging and presenting data. The sample formed is random and stratified, consisting of 221 examinees from the student population. With regard to the initial three hypotheses, two of them are fully confirmed, while the third one is only partially confirmed, with scientific description, scientific understanding, and scientific explanation having been realised in the former, the latter featuring only scientific description. The results indicate that most students: 1) have an excellent knowledge (familiarity) and positive (postmodernist) attitudes towards the game, its importance, and functions; 2) participate in the game for intrinsic motives, because they come from CRSP, in order to connect and communicate with others, so the socialiser's motive is the most dominant one; 3) participate in endless (affiliative, assertive) games. So it is encouraging that their awareness of and their being informed on the matter are at a very high level, that is, in the spirit of postmodernist discourse on the developmental potentials of the game for effective applications in a wide range of activities, especially in terms of life-long learning. Hence, we point out the importance of recognising and applying the principles of the game in higher education, more precisely the innovation of (electronic) game-based learning (gamification). The relevance of the issue. Today, special attention is paid to new literacy and skills of the 21st century as those define individual and activity-based acquisition of knowledge. Within the framework of new types of outcomes it is necessary to change not only the techniques and methods of teaching, but also to update the content, forms of learners' work, to change the types and nature of tasks that are stated in the syllabus of educational disciplines. The example of implementation of the program "Geography of Human Perspectives" as an elective course demonstrates the experience of a comprehensive revision of approaches to teaching economic geography. This paper presents some results of approbation of this program, which highlight the pros and cons of this kind of modernization of the educational process. The purpose of the study: to identify the structural and content elements of the elective educational program "Geography of Human Perspectives", which can be used to support the self-determination and development of high school students' interests. The dominant methodology / approach: ascertaining experiment accompanied by specially organized diagnostic procedures. Results: identification of successful methods of organizing educational activities, which are based on the individual interests of students; establishment of a mechanism for presenting the subject "geography" as a means of selfdetermination for high school students. Practical significance: this paper will serve as basis for elaboration of recommendations for the development of elective courses and programs of supplementary education for children. Digital transformation is currently one of the most prominent topics in information systems research. In this context, existing work mainly focuses on the digitalization of business models and impacts on economy or society, representing a macro perspective on digital transformation. However, with the transformation of business models also come significant IT-induced changes of underlying processes and eventually workplace environments. In this paper, the term "digital workplace transformation" is introduced and corresponding success factors investigated, thereby adding a micro perspective to the ongoing research stream on digital transformation. Driven by facets of self-determination, it will be shown for an organization in the wholesale industry, that enabling employees to feel autonomous, competent and connected in the future workplace environment is not only vital for their expected performance but also expected well-being. RESEARCH PAPER: As video games have grown from distracting toys to emotional experiences, so have the people who play them. Gamers have spent on average nearly one-third of their lives with the medium, often during childhood, which provides for the potential for video games to spark a sense of nostalgia. The current study parsed out feelings of nostalgia for past gaming memories as a function of a game's recalled entertainment value (in terms of enjoyment and appreciation), its ability to satisfy basic psychological needs (from self-determination theory), and the social and temporal context of the gaming memory. Older memories (on average, a decade or more) led to increased nostalgia, with unique variance in nostalgia also accounted for by a game's appreciation, enjoyment, and the extent to which it fostered a sense of relatedness with others. Geo-tagging feature on social media allows users to share their location-related information to other people in their network and offers various benefits. However, geo-tagging on social media may also pose some privacy risks since it involves disclosure of information about one's own physical location, a form of personally identifiable information. Some of these risks include online and offline stalking victimization, re-identification, and social phishing attacks. However, a few studies have explored the privacy issues on geo-tagging behavior on social media. Additionally, the interaction effect of perceived benefits and privacy concerns on geo-tagging behavior has not been proposed or tested by previous researchers. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to (1) examine geo-tagging behavior through the lens of individuals' need for affiliation, low self-esteem, self-regulation and privacy calculus, and provide new insights by answering why people geo-tag themselves on social media, (2) understand how individuals' need for affiliation mediates their geo-tagging behavior (3) understand how perceived benefits and privacy concerns moderates the effect of individuals' need for online affiliation on their location tagging behavior. Extending from the increasing social demands on the pedagogical work of preschool educators and the public perception of childcare as part of the educational system, the current understanding of the roles of educators is questioned. Neuroscientific findings, which examined the learning process of children, led to a stronger self-determination right and greater participation in everyday pedagogy. The question that arises from this is, what role-educators in the educational process of self-determined children. It turns out that a change of roles took place, from apprentices to an accompanying role. Children need free space to determine their actions independently. The educator continues to provide adequate educational opportunities, but these are now based on an observation of the children's stimuli. It is clear from the qualitative, empirical study analyzed here that educators are assigned different roles. Educators in today's educational understanding, are bonding person, educator, adult educator and observer. It thus becomes clear that the integration of the child's needs into the design of the education process has led to a strong interweaving of the requirements for early pedagogues. Using self-determination theory as a framework, this study examined the relationship between perceived work environment, needs satisfaction, and volunteer intended behavior. A national survey of 428 volunteers found that when volunteers feel more included in the workplace, they experience higher needs satisfaction, which leads to future intentions to volunteer with the organization. Additionally, a path analysis found that some of the personal dimensions of inclusion (i.e., decision-making, information networks, and participation) predicted volunteer need satisfaction (i.e., competence, relatedness, and autonomy). All dimensions of need satisfaction predicted volunteer intended behavior. There was a significant indirect effect of volunteering inclusion on volunteer intended behavior through need satisfaction. Results suggest that nonprofit organizations should encourage need satisfaction of their volunteers, and this can be accomplished in part through creating an inclusive environment. "There is an app for that!" is a common refrain today. Thousands of smartphone apps geared toward tracking and monitoring everyday health behaviors are released everyday. Even as developers flood the consumer market with "mHealth" apps, there is growing "consumer fatigue" and lack of sustained use that question the efficacy of these tools. Based on an online survey (N = 524) of health app users, we examined whether perceived interactivity of these mHealth apps contributes to more positive attitudes and behavioral intentions toward them. Based on self-determination theory, the study's findings show that perceived interactivity not only has a direct effect, but greater autonomous control also mediates the effect of perceived interactivity on attitudes and behavioral intentions toward mHealth apps. Perceived interactivity also significantly predicted perceived ease of use and usefulness of health apps. Although it does not provide a "magic cure" against secession, internal selfdetermination, both in effect and in practice, diminishes the desire for external selfdetermination and softens the tendencies toward separatism. The recognized and internationally proclaimed right of self - determination of the people gets a new lease of life through the implementation of its internal aspects as a possible way for the accommodation of the differences of separate groups that exist in society. Although it has still not been established as a right, the legal grounds for practicing internal selfdetermination can be found in several international documents and the moral basis for identity and the need to practice it within a particular group or sense of group distinctiveness. Since there is insignificant support in the standards of international law for the accommodation of different expectations based on the need to protect and promote any so-called separate nationality, in our efforts to endorse security and peaceful coexistence it may be better to look at the internal aspects of the right of selfdetermination from a different angle and try to find solutions through measures that are part of the state's democratic traditions. The internal aspect of self - determination offers a wide range of options that need to be taken into account. Although, these are far from perfect, they are still based on presumptions and have many limitations, the costs of the realization of internal self- determination comprise solutions that are worth trying out. Building on theoretical research, this paper addresses the modalities for the realization of internal self - determination. An overview of the necessary tools for addressing the right of self-determination envisages the possible ways that can provide the means for accommodating differences between the existing communities within the established states. The effectiveness and efficiency of these models, depends as well on commitment, and the strong and clear efforts of national and international institutions for using democratic means in the process of conflict settlement. Ability Uncertainty and the lack of a sense of belonging to the peer group and to the academic specialization can significantly influence one's academic performance. Motivation, future aspirations and self-determination can also regulate academic achievement in undergraduate students. In our correlational study we analyze the profile of 100 struggling undergraduate students, from 4 different universities and more than 10 faculties from Cluj-Napoca, in order to highlight the most important patterns in motivation and self-perception. We used Aspirations Index (AI), Self Determination Scale (SDS) and Ability Uncertainty Scale (AUS). In order to measure academic success, we utilized the number of failed exams, the awarded academic credit and the weighted GPA. Our results show significant correlations between the academic outcome of these students and a complex situation regarding their motivation and a lack of self-determined behavior. The ability uncertainty does not outline well either. From our findings emerge differentiated patterns in the profile of the Romanian struggling undergraduate student and they open up the path to further investigations in the field of professional interventions designed for students who face academic challenge. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) must often advocate for themselves in many facets of life, including issues around sexuality. Because of this, sexual self-advocacy is an important concept to develop and apply to policy and practice. Our paper provides a conceptualization of sexual self-advocacy, a view of sexuality formulated by adults with IDD that is closely tied to the values of the Self-Advocacy Movement. In describing the study process, this paper puts forth the Participatory Action Research method Nominal Group Technique (NGT) as an accessible qualitative method for gaining insight from adults with IDD. The choice of Nominal Group Technique as a research method was motivated by several factors. NGT served to counterbalance many of the potential research difficulties when working with people with IDD, including the need for understandable, inclusive and participatory ways to access data from people with IDD, and addressed an issue, sexual self-advocacy, that is important to people with IDD. The impact of the self-determination processes of minority communities within the space of larger multicultural states poses one of the greater challenges to stability and cohesion within individual European nation states today. Selfdetermination by democratic means can in turn impact upon the very process of European integration especially with regard to concerns raised over the creation of successor states and the very concept of the 'internal enlargement' of the European Union. The prospect of a constituent part of an EU member state gaining independence is growing, as the desire for national independence of the historical regions is once again on the agenda in the process and aftermath of the Scottish referendum and the unofficial Catalan referendum or poll on independence; a process which can be seen as a second wave of contemporary nationalism since the first wave in the 1990s. In light of the recent Scottish and Catalan referenda, this chapter considers the importance of the EU to the historical regions and how they can by-pass the centralized state through Brussels, thereby gaining greater recognition than within their own state entities and reinforcing their own identity construction. Yet, there might by an ambiguity here: whilst the institutional structure of the European Union would appear to encourage greater autonomy of the regions, particularly with initiatives for regional development and cross-border co-operation, the EU does not seem to support the outright independence of sub-national entities. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of an individual's self-determination and psychological capital (PsyCap) on their job involvement. We obtained data from managers who were part of an executive education program at universities in the major cities of Taiwan. We conducted a pilot study of our questionnaire with 29 EMBA students to ensure our questionnaire was reliable and valid. Of the 600 paper-based questionnaires that were distributed and we received 303 valid copies (50.50%). We used hierarchical regression to analyze the data and controlled for the gender, age, tenure in current organization, tenure in management position, and education. After analyzing the effects of self-determination on PsyCap and job involvement and the mediating effect of PsyCap on the relationship between self-determination and job involvement, the results showed that self-determination had a positive effect on job involvement. In addition, we found that self-determination positively influenced PsyCap, and PsyCap mediated the relationship between self-determination and job involvement. Our findings suggest that an individual's strong intrinsic motivation, self-determination, increased their PsyCap, which may predict their job involvement. In modern society aging becomes a challenge for scientists and researchers from all scientific domains. Modern psychological aging paradigm, proposed by P. Baltes and developed by researchers all over the world propose, that older adults and aging people have strong intrinsic potentials and resources that occur in all possible mental domains - from health to cognitive, personality and social abilities. Still the mechanisms that provide such potentials stay uncovered. Present study approaches this issue from the position of self-determination theory. We studied 80 older adults aged 55-78, in terms of three self-determination domains: competence, autonomy and relatedness. To estimate impact of those domains on quality of life we measured Life satisfaction index and Health. Results showed that though to some extent every domain impacts quality of life measures, still self-determination structure needs further investigation and widening of the parameters, included in the analysis. The establishment of the European Union as a zone of stability and prosperity in Europe is confronted today with new security challenges. For the first time since the break-up of Yugoslavia and the wars of Yugoslav Transition in the first half of the 1990s, the EU finds itself with an unpredictable neighbour on its borders, which has resorted to the use of military force and continues to influence the territorial integrity of a sovereign state. The issue was over the trans-border Russian population found in Crimea and eastern Ukraine, which at the time of writing raises the question: are trans-border populations to be interpreted as ethnic conflicts waiting to happen? This chapter will briefly investigate the historical background of the Ukrainian crisis, before focussing on the potential impact of these events on European security in general and the security of the European Union in particular. Not only are there differences in approach towards the implementation of sanctions, between the EU and the US, there are also different attitudes to the Ukrainian conundrum held by different member states of the EU. So, does the EU really have the appetite for imposing sanctions given the background of the recent financial crisis and the potential for a devastating tit-for-tat trade war? As members of the OSCE monitoring team have been 4 hostage and western journalists have been arrested on suspicion of spying, this raises a further question: is Europe lurching out of an economic crisis into a new Cold War, which some NATO leaders have already designated as Cold War II? The type of motivation that a student evinces can shape such outcomes as academic engagement, performance, and satisfaction. In this paper we explore student motivation using cluster analysis, a quantitative method that has been proven useful in examining group-based motivational profiles within academic settings. We apply a range of clustering techniques to a data set comprising motivational survey responses of undergraduate engineering students at three different colleges. We confirm the outcomes of previous clustering analyses, revealing the existence of different student motivational profiles in academic settings, and we offer several new perspectives on engineering student motivation. First, different cluster analysis methods describe similar trends in motivational profiles, but divergent judgements in the distribution of students into these profiles. Second, examination of longitudinal data illustrates that students' endorsements of the various motivations fluctuate significantly, and sometimes dramatically, within the duration of a single course. This challenges the "they either have it or they don't" concept of motivation, and highlights the importance of understanding of students' situational motivational responses to classroom activities. The paper looks in a critical way to the relation between determination and self- determination in the structure and dynamics of Self, relationship that is paramount in the formation of the personality. By one's activities, objective external determinations turn into internal determinations, acting towards one's adaptation and differentiation. We see Self as a real landmark in postmodern individual's attempts to fight depersonalization and alienation, in his effort of self-creation and personal achievement. Cultivating youngsters' interest in this dimension means, in the long run, their preparation for life by cultivating self-control and self-regulation, independence, in brief, the art of self-support and self-teaching. It is commonplace to explain nationalist movements by adverting to the demand for national self-determination. Indeed, nationalism is frequently defined in precisely these terms. Antipathy to alien rule -- the obverse of national self-determination - often is assumed to be universal. There is no shortage of explanations of this antipathy, and a great deal of corroborative evidence. Many believe that people seem to prefer to be badly ruled by their own kind than better ruled by aliens. Yet if this is true, it suggests that we are all liable to suffer from sub-optimal governance. In contrast to this view, this paper argues that the evidence for a universal antipathy to alien rule is overdrawn. In this conceptual paper, we draw upon structuration, self-determination, and self -regulation theories to examine the relationship between motivation and work location choices of the newly emergent class of mobile knowledge worker. Through this multi-level, multi-theoretical lens, we build a framework detailing how autonomous and controlled motivation mediate the relationship between competence, relatedness, autonomy, and variety and work environment choices. This investigation highlights contextual tensions that influence individual motivations and work environment choices. It also highlights the subsequent incorporation (or not) of an assortment of new, non-traditional environments into the portfolio of viable worksites that today's workers may choose from to meet organizational and personal goals. Because extant work on software development is scarce when it comes to how individuals cope with deadlines, we investigate the effect of individuals' deadline orientation on software quality and job satisfaction. A survey among 144 software developers of a large global software vendor confirms our hypotheses that deadline-oriented developers are more effective when the product they develop enables them to work autonomously. Our analyses are robust to many concerns regarding common method variance. We contribute by extending existing approaches to software development by incorporating a perspective on developer's self- determination, in particular when it comes to temporal work preferences. The leadership development literature is theoretically and empirically thin compared to other leadership topics. In this paper, leadership development is immersed in the motivation literature with self-determination theory serving as the primary explanatory mechanism of significant differences in leadership development. Self-determination theory is extended by considering the initiating and pursuing motivation and proposing that intrinsic and extrinsic motivation can pursue in either a controlled or autonomous manner. Using a sample of 445 organizational administrators and 7791 observer assessments, empirical results show that leadership development differs depending on the degree of self-determination in terms of self-evaluations, observer evaluations, and gain-scores even though the significance is not as expected in all cases.
