In this paper, we construct a stochastic SAIR (Susceptible–Asymptomatic–Infected–Removed) epidemic model to study the dynamic and control strategy of COVID-19. The existence and uniqueness of the global positive solution are obtained by using the Lyapunov method. We prove the necessary conditions for the existence of extinction and ergodic stationary distribution by defining two new thresholds, respectively. We extend the unstructured homogeneously mixing epidemic model introduced by Lamprinakou et al. (2023) to a finite population stratified by age bands. We model the actual unobserved infections using a latent marked Hawkes process and the reported aggregated infections as random quantities driven by the underlying Hawkes process. We apply a Kernel Density Particle Filter (KDPF) to infer the marked counting process, the instantaneous reproduction number for each age group and forecast the epidemic's trajectory in the near future. Taking into account the individual inhomogeneity in age does not increase significantly the computational cost of the proposed inference algorithm compared to the cost of the proposed algorithm for the homogeneously unstructured epidemic model. We demonstrate that considering the individual heterogeneity in age, we can derive the instantaneous reproduction numbers per age group that provide a real-time measurement of interventions and behavioural changes of the associated groups. We illustrate the performance of the proposed inference algorithm on synthetic data sets and COVID-19-reported cases in various local authorities in the UK, and benchmark our model to the unstructured homogeneously mixing epidemic model. From March to June 2022, Shanghai was struck by a new coronavirus variant, Omicron, resulting in the infected cases of at least 600,000 people. Despite implementing a strict containment policy of city-wide silence (i.e., residents were not allowed to go out unless necessary), the outbreak cannot be effectively prevented within a short period of time. A significant academic and practical question is: how could we prevent and control outbreak of COVID-19 in large, densely populated cities like Shanghai? It is necessary to develop a rational epidemic spreading model for large cities, in order to accurately predict the trend of disease and quantitatively assess the impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions. In this paper, a multilayer commuter metapopulation network model is constructed to capture commuting flows and the size of epidemic outbreak during commuting between districts. The model accurately predicts epidemic spreading in each district of Shanghai. Assuming strict city-wide lockdowns, with each district locked down and limited inter-district commuting as social zones, simulations demonstrate significant suppression of outbreaks due to social-level interventions. For example, a 1-fold increase in PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) testing efficiency reduces the size of epidemic outbreak by approximately 70%. Larger districts require stricter controls to prevent exponential growth. Lockdowns effectively prevent epidemic outbreak at low disease rates but less so at high rates. Liberalized policies lead to varied outbreak trends, with economically developed regions peaking earlier due to higher population densities. In this paper we build a network-based model to evaluate and compare vaccination plans in order to find the optimal strategies. The age-structured model is designed to take into account the comorbidity status and vaccination hesitancy of the population. The network-based model is calibrated to reported infected cases and deaths in the USA in order to obtain an approximated realistic scenario to test the vaccination strategies. We adapt an algorithm that is based on Bayesian optimization over permutation spaces with heuristics in order to deal with the discrete space of the vaccination strategies. We also developed an ad-hoc randomized algorithm which has a higher computational cost. Both algorithms provide similar patterns of the best found vaccination strategies. We find that these best vaccination plans prioritize the age-groups 40–59 and 60–69 years old, both with comorbidities. This result shows the highly nonlinear complexity related to the problem and its dependence on social contacts and case fatality rates. The developed network-based model adapts well to the uncertainty and heterogeneity of the real world situation and allows us to assess the efficacy of many vaccination strategies. The stochastic nature of the simulations enables us to explore additional potential scenarios and the findings offer useful information for developing vaccination plans for other future potential pandemics. In this paper, a stochastic SEI A IR COVID-19 model with contacting distance and Ornstein–Uhlenbeck process is investigated to examine the influence of stochastic perturbation. The existence of unique global solution with any positive initial condition is first obtained. Then, the new threshold values R 0 e and R 0 s for the stochastic model are defined. When R 0 e < 1 the almost surely exponential extinction of disease is obtained. When R 0 s > 1 the existence of a unique stationary distribution is established by constructing the suitable Lyapunov function. Furthermore, the normal density function of stationary solution is calculated by using the calculation method of Lyapunov matrix equation. The numerical simulations are given to confirm the theoretical results. The specific expression of the marginal probability density function is obtained. This paper considers chemostat consumer-resource systems in which the consumer disperses between spatial patches and acts as an agent. Using the theory of dynamical systems and the method of graphs, we demonstrate global stability of steady states in the model. It is shown that dispersal of the consumer and clustering mode of patches are important for persistence of the consumer, while asymmetry in the dispersal determines the final distribution of consumer in the system. Moreover, appropriate asymmetry could make the consumer persist in sink patches, and could make the consumer approach a total population abundance higher than that without dispersal. A novel finding of this work is that agent-based selection on asymmetry could make the consumer evolve to the maximal abundance. Numerical simulations on the model reproduce radiograph/CT of COVID-19 patients in both figures and animations. Purpose: The global COVID-19 pandemic has rapidly overwhelmed our societies, shocked the global economy and disturbed normal business operations. While such impacts of COVID-19 are becoming clearer, the effects of the disease on business operations are more common. This study mainly focuses on identifying the factors that affect the smooth operation of businesses during a pandemic situation. Design/methodology/approach: Analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method was used to rate the result index. A total of 40 professionals and experts of different businesses were listed on stock exchanges, and asked to rank the key variables with relative indices and weighting methods. Findings: The results of the AHP successfully assigned weighting scores to all key important factors during the COVID-19 pandemic situation that businesses should focus on, with economic factors receiving the highest score of 60%. Likewise, the other factors that impact values for business operations are reported as social (22%), legal (12.2%), technological (5.16%) and political (0.57%). The results of this study also match with the current policies adopted by different government and nongovernment agencies like the guidelines of the World Health Organization and some most recent research results.
