The animated film Don Quixote, one of Vlado Kristl’s greatest achievements, comprises a range of dominant themes and motifs that accompany the entire work of this author, such as the issue of the author’s existence, lingering war-related trauma and conflict with the system in general. Wars, prosecutions, sufferings, deprivation of liberty, power and corruption systems, represent some of the key terms in his personal biography as well as the European 20th century history. The subversive and avant-garde character of his work led to misunderstandings, censorship and eventually Kristl’s emigration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
