Carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide matrix composites (C/SiC) have emerged as key materials for thermal protection systems owing to their high strength-to-weight ratio, high-temperature durability, resistance to oxidation, and outstanding reliability. However, manufacturing defects deteriorate the mechanical response of these composites under extreme thermal-force coupling conditions, prompting significant research attention. This study demonstrates a customized in situ loading device compatible with synchrotron radiation facilities, enabling high spatial and temporal resolution recording of internal material damage evolution and failure behavior under thermal-force coupling conditions. Infrared thermal radiation units in a confocal configuration were used to create ultra-high-temperature environments, offering advantages of compactness, rapid heating, and versatility. In situ tensile tests were conducted on C/SiC samples in a nitrogen atmosphere at both room temperature and 1200 °C. The high-resolution image data demonstrate various failure phenomena, such as matrix cracking and pore linkage. Image-based finite element simulations indicate that the temperature-dependent variation of the failure mechanism is attributable to thermal residual stresses and defect-induced stress concentrations. The presence of α / α′ on prior β / β grain boundaries directly impacts the final mechanical properties of the titanium alloys. The β / β grain boundary variant selection of titanium alloys has been assumed to be unlikely owing to the high cooling rates in laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF). However, we hypothesize that powder characteristics such as morphology (non-spherical) and particle size (50–120 µm) could affect the initial variant selection in L-PBF processed Ti-6Al-4V alloy by locally altering the cooling rates. Despite the high cooling rate found in L-PBF, results showed the presence of β / β grain boundary α′ lath growth inside two adjacent prior β grains. Electron backscatter diffraction micrographs confirmed the presence of β / β grain boundary variant selection, and synchrotron X-ray high-speed imaging observation revealed the role of the " shadowing effect " on the locally decreased cooling rate because of keyhole depth reduction and the consequent β / β grain boundary α′ lath growth. The self-accommodation mechanism was the main variant selection driving force, and the most abundant α / α boundary variant was type 4 (63.26°//[ 10 ¯ 5 5 3 ¯ ]). The dominance of Category II α lath clusters associated with the type 4 α / α boundary variant was validated using the phenomenological theory of martensite transformations and analytical calculations, from which the stress needed for the β → α′ transformation was calculated. In comparison to inorganic counterparts, organic semiconducting (OSC) crystalline films are promising for building large-area and flexible ionizing radiation detectors for X-ray imaging or dosimetry due to their tissue equivalence, simple processing and large-scale production accessibility. Fabrication processes, however, hinder the ability to generate aligned and large-area films with high carrier mobility. In this work, the space-confined melt process is used to produce highly orientated 4HCB (4-hydroxycyanobenzene) OSC films with a large area of 15 × 18 mm2. The out-of-plane direction of the 4HCB film is <001>, and the benzene rings are found to be extensively overlapped inside the in-plane direction, according to the XRD patterns. The film exhibits a high resistivity up to 1012 Ω cm, and high hole mobility of 10.62 cm2 V−1 s−1. Furthermore, the 4HCB (80 μm-thick film) based X-ray detectors can achieve a sensitivity of 93 μC Gy air −1 cm−2 and on/off ratio of 157. The device also shows steady flexibility, with no degradation in detecting function after 100 cycles of bending. Finally, the proposed 4HCB film detectors demonstrated a high-resolution X-ray imaging capability. X-ray security inspection for prohibited item detection is widely used to maintain social order and personal safety. Deploying most modern object identification algorithms on portable security inspection devices is difficult because of their high computational complexity and many parameters. Consequently, an enhanced YOLOv7-tiny model is presented in this research and used to the problem of forbidden object recognition in X-ray images. First, the upgraded model's feature extraction backbone is a lightweight network called FasterNet, which lowers computing complexity and speeds up detection. Second, the ELAN module in the original YOLOv7-tiny is replaced with a New-ELAN module with PConv in the neck layer to further reduce repeated computations and memory usage. Finally, to improve the detection performance of forbidden objects with smaller sizes, a lightweight C A attention mechanism is inserted between the neck and backbone layers. The studies are carried out using the SIXray dataset. The enhanced model decreases the volume, computational complexity, and number of parameters by 14.7%, 19.7%, and 12.2%, respectively, in comparison to the original YOLOv7-tiny model. The model achieves 88.7% identification accuracy for forbidden items, and the speed of detection rises from 82.4 FPS to 89.5 FPS.
