In insecure communication environments where the communication bandwidth is limited, important image data must be compressed and encrypted for transmission. However, existing image compression and encryption algorithms suffer from poor image reconstruction quality and insufficient image encryption security. To address these problems, this paper proposes an image-compression and encryption scheme based on a newly designed hyperchaotic system and two-dimensional compressed sensing (2DCS) technique. In this paper, the chaotic performance of this hyperchaotic system is verified by bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov diagrams, approximate entropy, and permutation entropy, which have certain advantages over the traditional 2D chaotic system. The new 2D chaotic system as a pseudo-random number generator can completely pass all the test items of NIST. Meanwhile, this paper improves on the existing 2D projected gradient (2DPG) algorithm, which improves the quality of image compression and reconstruction, and can effectively reduce the transmission pressure of image data confidential communication. In addition, a new image encryption algorithm is designed for the new 2D chaotic system, and the security of the algorithm is verified by experiments such as key space size analysis and encrypted image information entropy. This paper proposes a digital image compression-encryption scheme based on the theory of compressive sensing and cyclic shift, which use random Gauss matrix and sparse transform to compress the digital image, and then cyclic shift and diffusion operation are developed subsequently to the compressive sensing (CS) phase. The algorithm has three advantages: First, the measurement matrix used in the algorithm is generated by Chebyshev mapping, which increases the key space and reduces the burden of key transmission. Second, The Sigmoid function is used to transform the range of compressed data to 0~255, which are stored as 8-bit binary data, thus further reducing the amount of data transmission and avoiding the expansion of encrypted data. Third, the generation of key stream in encryption phase is related to ciphertext, there are different key streams for different plain images. Thus, our algorithm can resist against the chosen-plaintext and known-plaintext attacks effectively. In addition, the implementation of cyclic shift and diffusion operation further enhances the security of the system. Each pixel of the encrypted image is output in the form of 8-bit integer to facilitate data storage, display and transmission. The experimental results and security analysis show that the algorithm has the advantages of large key space, no obvious statistical characteristics of ciphertext, sensitive to plaintext and key, and able to resist chosen-plaintext attack. Phenomenon of cluster synchronization has captured the curiosity of scientists in the study of nonlinear dynamics over the last few decades. It is a well-known and intriguing aspect of complex systems that has garnered significant attention in research. Many researchers have significantly addressed the synchronization of cluster-based networks with identical and non-identical systems in the literature. This review paper presents a detailed summary of overall developments in the domain of cluster synchronization of chaotic system networks. After introducing the chaotic systems and concept of cluster synchronization initially; the applicability of synchronization in several fields including secure communication, information processing, and the synchronization of complex networks, has been highlighted in the later part of the paper. In general, for meeting out the goal of cluster synchronization, several strategies including standard Lyapunov design- based approach, pinning control, observer-based control, time-delayed feedback control, adaptive synchronization etc. are prominently used in literature. The article briefly discusses these approaches and reviews their advantages and disadvantages along with some possible applications. With the rapid development of digitalization and networking, copying and sharing vector map data has become convenient, but it also brings security risks such as data interception and tampering. Current encryption methods focus on partially encrypting objects, which may leave some sensitive and confidential objects unencrypted. Additionally, the encryption effect for the point layers is not satisfactory. This paper proposes an algorithm for encrypting vector maps based on DNA dynamic encoding. Initially, global scrambling is performed on all object coordinates using double random position permutation, and a four-dimensional hyperchaotic system is selected to ensure the complexity of the chaotic sequence. Next, DNA dynamic coding operations are applied to whole layers of the vector map to encrypt all data. Finally, the encrypted data can be decrypted and restored according to the DNA coding rules and the double random position permutation mapping relationship, with the decrypted data being consistent with the original. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm can be applied to the encryption protection of various vector map elements, especially to improve the performance on encrypting point layer data compared with existing encryption algorithms. Ensuring confidentiality and privacy is critical when it comes to sharing images over unsecured networks such as the internet. Since widely used and secure encryption methods, such as AES, Twofish, and RSA, are not suitable for real-time image encryption due to their slow encryption speeds and high computational requirements, researchers have proposed specialized algorithms for image encryption. This paper provides an introduction and overview of the image encryption algorithms and metrics used, aiming to evaluate them and help researchers and practitioners starting in this field obtain adequate information to understand the current state of image encryption algorithms. This paper classifies image encryption into seven different approaches based on the techniques used and analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. Furthermore, this paper provides a detailed review of a comprehensive set of security, quality, and efficiency evaluation metrics for image encryption algorithms, and provides upper and lower bounds for these evaluation metrics. Finally, this paper discusses the pros and cons of different image encryption approaches as well as the suitability of different image encryption approaches for different applications. In this paper, a quantitative detection method of the weak ultrasonic guided wave (UGW) signal based on information entropy of the Duffing chaotic system is proposed. It can simultaneously identify the location and size of small defects in pipelines. First, by adjusting the driving force amplitude of the Duffing system, the system is in a critical state from period to chaos. When the weak UGW is added on the driving force, the state of the Duffing system will change. It can be used to detect weak signal. To realize the quantitative detection of UGW, a method based on information entropy is presented in this paper. By analyzing the influence of UGW on the driving force amplitude of the Duffing equation, a sensitive damage index is constructed to indicate the signal strength. Furthermore, a time-moving window function is introduced. By scanning the recording signal, the defect location can be identified using the damage index. The experimental studies show that the proposed method is validity for detecting small defects in pipeline, and simultaneously identify the size and location of the defects. This method has a strong noise immunity and significantly improves the sensitivity of small defects detection in pipelines. In recent years, the security of cloud storage has become a topic attracting significant attention due to a series of features such as large storage space, high availability, and low cost. Although traditional plain text images can withstand external attacks, the usability of images is completely lost. In order to balance the usability and privacy of images, some scholars have proposed the thumbnail-preserving encryption (TPE) scheme. The ideal TPE algorithm can keep the same thumbnail before and after encryption, which reduces the time cost and strengthens the resistance to attacks, but the existing schemes cannot fulfill the above criteria. In this paper, we propose a new TPE scheme that combines bit-transform encryption and improved hierarchical encryption. By constructing a chaotic system, both encryption and decryption times are shortened, while the randomness of the selected cells is enhanced. In addition, the Hamming distance is introduced to classify and scramble the binary encryption units. The experimental results show that when the number of thumbnail chunks is 16 × 16, the encryption and decryption time decreases to 4 s, and the SSIM value after encryption is close to 1, which indicates that the thumbnail before and after satisfying the encryption basically remains the same, and when the number of chunks is gradually increased, the success rate of the face detection tends to be close to 0. The pseudo-random number generator (PRNG) based on chaos has been widely used in the fields of digital communication, cryptography and computer simulation. In this paper, we study a new PRNG based on spatial surface chaotic system (SSCS), which is constructed based on coupling mapping lattice (CML) and one-dimensional Logistic chaotic map. To verify the performance of this generator, we study its nonlinear dynamic properties, including the Lyapunov exponent, ergodicity and bifurcation phenomena. Moreover, we analyze the cryptographic properties such as key space, key sensitivity, correlation, histogram and information entropy, while performing NIST SP800-22 test and TestU01 test for the randomness of this system. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation results show that the PRNG proposed in this paper has good complexity, ergodicity, sensitivity and randomness. Moreover, the key space can increase dynamically with the increase of encrypted data, especially suitable for the protection of big data such as multimedia, which is more advantageous than most existing chaotic mapping. The results of this paper will provide a new idea for the study of chaotic cryptography, and motivate the study of new discrete chaotic models with desirable statistical properties. Supply chains comprise various interconnected components like suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and customers, each with unique variables and interactions. Managing dynamic supply chains is highly challenging, particularly when considering various sources of risk factors. This paper extensively explores dynamical analysis and multistability analysis to understand nonlinear behaviors and pinpoint potential risks within supply chains. Different phase portraits are used to demonstrate the impact of various factors such as transportation risk, quality risk, distortion, contingency reserves, and safety stock on both customers and retailers. We introduced a sliding mode control method that computes the sliding surface and its derivative by considering the error and its derivative. The equivalent control law based on the sliding surface and its derivative is derived and validated for control purposes. Our results show that the controller SMC can significantly enhance supply chain stability and efficiency. When chaotic systems are used for speech encryption, their chaotic performance largely determines the security of speech encryption. However, traditional chaotic systems have problems such as parameter discontinuity, easy occurrence of chaos degradation, low complexity, and the existence of periodic windows in chaotic intervals. In real applications, chaotic mappings may fall into periodic windows, which is extremely unfavorable for security. In this paper, a new chaotic mapping 2D-LMSM is proposed by improving the chaotic logistic and sine mappings, and applied to speech encryption. Performance evaluation shows that this map can effectively generate robust chaotic signals in a wide parameter range. The 2D-LMSM achieves better robustness and desired chaotic properties than several existing two-dimensional chaotic maps. We propose a novel speech encryption algorithm using this map. First, it performs Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) on the input speech signal to obtain real and imaginary values, which are encrypted by one-time scrambling encryption and XOR diffusion encryption with pseudorandom numbers generated by chaos; then, it performs secondary scrambling encryption by Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and 2D-LMSM; finally, it obtains encrypted speech data by Discrete Wavelet Inverse Transform (IDWT) and Fast Fourier Inverse Transform (IFFT). In this paper, an improved two-dimensional chaotic mapping is constructed by introducing a Logistic mapping and a Sine mapping. By studying its Lyapunov and bifurcation diagrams, it is proved that the proposed chaotic mapping has better chaotic properties. A new four-dimensional chaotic system is also proposed, and the richer dynamical behavior of the new system is verified by studying the Lyapunov exponent and bifurcation, SE and C0 complexity, and coexisting attractors of the new system. Then, a new color image encryption algorithm is proposed based on an improved two-dimensional chaotic mapping and a new four-dimensional chaotic system and DNA coding. The improved two-dimensional chaotic mapping and the new four-dimensional chaotic system increase the complexity and randomness of the system, giving the encryption algorithm a higher level of security. In this algorithm, the pixel correlation of the three channels of RGB is first broken by ascending arrangement of disorder, the chaotic sequence generated by the iteration of the four-dimensional chaotic system is applied in the DNA encoding encryption. Finally, a comprehensive evaluation of the algorithm performance is presented. In particular, statistical and information entropy analyses verify that the algorithm in this paper is resistant to statistical attacks based on the frequency of pixel values. The results obtained for the resistance to differential attacks are close to the ideal value, indicating that the algorithm has good resistance to plaintext attacks. By calculating the key space and analysing the key sensitivity, it is verified that the algorithm has a strong resistance to brute-force exhaustive attacks. The decryption algorithm can recover the original image by adding noise to the ciphertext image or cropping part of the region, which proves that the algorithm has strong resistance to interference and strong robustness. This paper discusses the complex dynamic behavior of a novel chaotic system, which was firstly established by introducing a memristor into a similar Chen's system. Then by choosing a as the key parameter, we analyze the stability of memristor system based on eigenvalue theory. It is also found that when a cross some critical values, the system can exhibit Neimark–Sacker bifurcation and chaos behaviors. Some numerical simulations including phase diagrams and maximum Lyapunov exponent graph of the memristor-based systems are presented to verify the existence of chaos attractors. In this paper, the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and a chaotic system were combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN) and applied to the diagnosis of insulation faults in XLPE (cross-linked polyacetylene) power cables. First, four different types of insulation faults in power cables were constructed, including the normal state of the cable, the short outer semi-conducting layer, impurities in the insulation layer, and insulation layer damage, and a high-speed capture card (NI PXI-5105) was adopted to measure the partial discharge (PD) signal, which was then filtered through discrete wavelet transform. Then, based on the Lorenz chaotic system, a dynamic error scatter diagram was established as the feature of each fault state. Finally, the dynamic error scatter diagram was processed by CNN to recognize four different types of faults in the power cable. The test results show that the method proposed in this paper can quickly recognize the fault state of power cables and has excellent performance in terms of recognition accuracy, which reaches 97.5%. Images are the most important carrier of human information. Moreover, how to safely transmit digital images through public channels has become an urgent problem. In this paper, we propose a novel image encryption algorithm, called chaotic compressive sensing (CS) encryption (CCSE), which can not only improve the efficiency of image transmission but also introduce the high security of the chaotic system. Specifically, the proposed CCSE can fully leverage the advantages of the Chebyshev chaotic system and CS, enabling it to withstand various attacks, such as differential attacks, and exhibit robustness. First, we use a sparse trans-form to sparse the plaintext image and thenuse theArnold transformtoperturb the image pixels.After that,we elaborateaChebyshevToeplitz chaotic sensing matrix for CCSE. By using this Toeplitz matrix, the perturbed image is compressed and sampled to reduce the transmission bandwidth and the amount of data. Finally, a bilateral diffusion operator and a chaotic encryption operator are used to perturb and expand the image pixels to change the pixel position and value of the compressed image, and ultimately obtain an encrypted image. To improve the salient region security and transmission efficiency of remote sensing images, a multiple remote sensing image (MRSIs) encryption scheme based on saliency extraction and magic cube circular motion is proposed in this paper. The scheme provides two tiers of privacy protection for salient regions (airport locations) in remote sensing images. First, a 4D improved discrete tabu learning neuron (4D-IDTLN) chaotic system is proposed. The analysis of phase diagrams, the Lyapunov exponents (LEs) spectrum and bifurcation diagrams of the system show that the system exhibits rich dynamic behaviors. Second, the salient regions of remote sensing images are classified and extracted via knowledge-oriented saliency (KOS) and vision-oriented saliency (VOS) techniques to create a mask contour positioning model (MCPM) for the salient regions, which is then encrypted. Then, the MRSIs are fused into a cube, which is encrypted using magic cube circular motion and chaotic sequences and further encrypted using closed-loop diffusion. Finally, the security of the proposed encryption scheme is evaluated. The results indicate that the scheme provides higher security and better transmission efficiency for MRSIs. This paper explores a double quantum images representation (DNEQR) model that allows for simultaneous storage of two digital images in a quantum superposition state. Additionally, a new type of two-dimensional hyperchaotic system based on sine and logistic maps is investigated, offering a wider parameter space and better chaotic behavior compared to the sine and logistic maps. Based on the DNEQR model and the hyperchaotic system, a double quantum images encryption algorithm is proposed. Firstly, two classical plaintext images are transformed into quantum states using the DNEQR model. Then, the proposed hyperchaotic system is employed to iteratively generate pseudo-random sequences. These chaotic sequences are utilized to perform pixel value and position operations on the quantum image, resulting in changes to both pixel values and positions. Finally, the ciphertext image can be obtained by qubit-level diffusion using two XOR operations between the position-permutated image and the pseudo-random sequences. The corresponding quantum circuits are also given. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme ensures the security of the images during transmission, improves the encryption efficiency, and enhances anti-interference and anti-attack capabilities. The encryption design is partly based on the fractional chaotic system and DNA theory. First, the dynamic characteristics of the newly proposed fractional Lü chaotic system are analyzed, and based on the analysis, a multi-image encryption algorithm is proposed. That is, the Arnold scrambling algorithm is used to scramble the image matrix, and then the DNA encryption theory is used to diffuse the image matrix. Among them, the scrambling step and the diffusion step are based on the chaotic sequence, and the encrypted image is finally obtained. Finally, the new encryption algorithm is evaluated, and the results show that the key space of the new encryption algorithm is further expanded and is very sensitive to key changes. Research on switchable chaotic systems with a large range of parameters is scarce. To explore the chaotic characteristics of such systems, this paper proposes new switchable methods by modifying the nonlinear term in the system, resulting in a chaotic system with different nonlinear terms. The unknown parameters in the nonlinear term exhibit different numerical relationships under various combined conditions, and some parameters may tend towards positive infinity. The chaos characteristics are verified by applying a specific switching method to the unified chaotic system. The pseudo-randomness of the random sequence generated by the dissipative system is verified using the NIST test. Finally, the circuit simulation of the system under various switching conditions is performed by selecting different circuit components and adjusting the resistance values.The switching chaotic system is implemented physically on FPGA and breadboard, and the effectiveness of the system is verified. This paper addresses a novel chaotic system with multistability and amplitude control. The noticeable characteristic of this system is that the complex dynamics are stimulated by one unstable equilibrium. Under diverse parameters, the double-scroll attractor can symmetrically rupture into different coexisting attractors, which are discussed via coexisting bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponents and phase plane projections. Total amplitude control is also numerically investigated, especially one with a large adjustable range. This paper delves into precisely measuring liquid levels using a specific methodology with diverse real-world applications such as process optimization, quality control, fault detection and diagnosis, etc. It demonstrates the process of liquid level measurement by employing a chaotic observer, which senses multiple variables within a system. A three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model is meticulously created using ANSYS to explore the laminar flow characteristics of liquids comprehensively. The methodology integrates the system identification technique to formulate a third-order state–space model that characterizes the system. Based on this mathematical model, we develop estimators inspired by Lorenz and Rossler's principles to gauge the liquid level under specified liquid temperature, density, inlet velocity, and sensor placement conditions. The estimated results are compared with those of an artificial neural network (ANN) model. These ANN models learn and adapt to the patterns and features in data and catch non-linear relationships between input and output variables. The accuracy and error minimization of the developed model are confirmed through a thorough validation process. Experimental setups are employed to ensure the reliability and precision of the estimation results, thereby underscoring the robustness of our liquid-level measurement methodology. The current paper proposes LSIE, a fast and secure Latin square-based image encryption scheme using SHA256 hash function and chaotic systems. LSIE uses a 3-tier architecture consisting of diffusion-confusion-diffusion based on Latin squares to design an efficient cryptographic algorithm. Firstly, the initial values and parameters of the 3D exponent chaotic map (3D-ECM) is obtained from the SHA256 hash value of the external secret key and the plain image. Next, two orthogonal Latin squares are constructed using chaotic sequences generated by the 3D-ECM. In the first diffusion phase, one of the Latin squares is considered as a key image to Exclusive-OR (XOR) with the plain image. In the confusion phase, a 2D permutation based on the orthogonal Latin squares is presented to permute pixel positions of the diffused image. In the second diffusion phase, another Latin square is considered as a key image to XOR with the permuted image. The analysis and simulation results indicate that the proposed LSIE could efficiently resist common security attacks, as also that it is a fast method for real-time applications. In this paper, we present a novel multi-threaded parallel permutation and channel-combined diffusion for image encryption which is independent of plain text. In our proposed method, the coupled map lattice is used to generate the key sequences for multi-thread permutation and diffusion. Then intra- and inter-thread permutations are achieved using multi-threading in combination with the tent mapping. For the subsequent diffusion, this paper introduces a method based on channel-combined diffusing which simultaneously diffuses three channels. Experimental results indicate a high encryption performance with the capability of effectively resisting the known plain text and differential attacks. This paper presents an implementation of inductorless and resistorless Chua's chaotic oscillator using voltage-differencing gain amplifier (VDGA). The chaotic oscillator circuit is implemented by designing a resistorless Chua's diode using a single VDGA and a VDGA-based tank oscillator with coupled network circuit. The proposed chaotic oscillator uses two VDGAs and three grounded capacitors only. Although resistors and inductors may also be fabricated, the use of no resistor and inductor makes the circuit suitable for fabrication in terms of cost and area. It offers the advantages of an increased frequency spectrum having a dominant operating frequency of 21.1 MHz. The Chua's circuit is simulated in Pspice using both macro models of IC MAX435 and 0.18 µm CMOS TSMC Technology parameters. As a result, chaotic waveforms (V1 and V2) and the various attractors (V1 versus V2) are found in the simulation. These results confirm the theoretical predictions of Chua's chaotic oscillator. Chaos has been one of the most effective cryptographic sources since it was first used in image-encryption algorithms. This paper closely examines the development process of chaos-based image-encryption algorithms from various angles, including symmetric and asymmetric algorithms, block ciphers and stream ciphers, and integration with other technologies. The unique attributes of chaos, such as sensitivity to initial conditions, topological transitivity, and pseudo-randomness, are conducive to cross-referencing with other disciplines and improving image-encryption methods. This paper describes a design process for a universal development kit based on an analog computer concept that can model the dynamics of an arbitrarily complex dynamical system up to the fourth order. The constructed development kit contains digital blocks and associated analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters (ADCs and DAC), such that multiple-segmented piecewise-linear input–output characteristics can be used for the synthesis of the prescribed mathematical model. Polynomial input–output curves can be implemented easily by four-quadrant analog multipliers. The proposed kit was verified through several experimental scenarios, starting with simple sinusoidal oscillators and ending with generators of continuous-time robust chaotic attractors. The description of each individual part of the development kit is accompanied by links to technical documentation, allowing skilled readers in the construction of electronic systems to replicate the proposed functional example. This paper explores the chaotic dynamics exhibited by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) through an analysis of Lyapunov exponents and equilibrium points. Subsequently, the study focuses on controlling the motor's chaotic behavior under specific parameter conditions using a straightforward controller. The approach employed in this paper involves utilizing a single-state feedback controller as the resolution method. The derived control law enables the stabilization of the motor's state around a reference state, even in the presence of parameter uncertainties, thereby preventing chaotic behavior. To illustrate the proposed method, numerical simulations were conducted in MATLAB, showcasing the practical application of this approach.
