Heavy mental contamination in urban land is a serious environmental issue for large cities. Visible and near-infrared spectroscopy has been rapidly developed as a new method for estimating copper (Cu) levels, which is one of the heavy metals. Spectral pretreatment is essential for reducing noise and enhancing analysis. In the traditional method, the entire spectrum is uniformly pretreated. However, in reality, the influence of pretreatment on the spectrum may vary depending on the wavelengths. Limited research has been conducted on breaking down the entire spectrum into distinct parts for individualized pretreatment, an innovative method called piecewise pretreatment. This study gathered 250 topsoil samples (0–20 cm) in Shenzhen City, southwest China, and obtained their vis-NIR spectra (350–2500 nm) in the laboratory. This study divided the spectrum into three parts, each processed by six commonly used spectral pretreatments. The number of pretreated parts varied from 1 to 3, resulting in 342 PLSR models being built. Compared to the traditional method, piecewise pretreatment showed an increase in mean residual predictive deviation (RPD) from 1.55 to 1.71 and an increase in the percentage of positive outcomes in ∆RPD from 33.33% to 55.56%. Thus, we concluded that piecewise pretreatment generally outperforms the traditional method. Featured Application: This study is aimed at the detection of sulfur dioxide concentration in the real environment. Due to the vast territory of China and the large temperature difference span between the north and the south, the current sulfur dioxide detection devices find it difficult to meet the requirements of portability, low-cost delivery, and temperature adaptability. A reliable real-time monitoring device and detection algorithm for sulfur dioxide concentration using PMT are proposed. Air is the environmental foundation for human life and production, and its composition changes are closely related to human activities. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is one of the main atmospheric pollutants, mainly derived from the combustion of fossil fuels. But SO2 is a trace gas in the atmosphere, and its concentration may be less than one part per billion (ppb). This paper is based on the principle of photoluminescence and uses a photomultiplier tube (PMT) as a photoelectric converter to develop a device for real-time detection of SO2 concentration in the atmosphere. This paper focuses on the impact of noise interference on weak electrical signals and uses wavelet transform to denoise the signals. At the same time, considering that the photoelectric system is susceptible to temperature changes, a multi parameter fitting model is constructed, and a BP neural network is used to further process the signal, separating the real data from the original data. Lovesickness (xiangsi bing), a disease of qing (sentiment, passion, feeling, desire, and love), emerged as a literary topos in China's medieval lyrical tradition and was developed through late imperial drama and fiction. This article examines narratives of lovesickness in popular literature—both fiction and drama—from the Song (960–1279) to the Qing (1644–1912), including some texts rarely discussed in English scholarship from the perspective of love writing. With thorough documentation, we present two classic plot patterns of the literary malady: one involving mutual affection of separated lovers, the other the one-sided passion, whether of unrequited (usually male) love or of one part of a couple longing for reunion. We argue that the notorious lovelorn figures in late Ming (sixteenth and seventeenth centuries) legal cases and Qing scholar-beauty xiaoshuo novels made lovesickness a target for criticism by literati and prompted reflection and revision of traditional narratives. With the modernization and westernization of Chinese literature, this classical literary malady was finally "cured." The disappearance of lovesickness reflects the gradual replacement of classical ways of thinking with a modern cognitive style and, simultaneously, the transition of Chinese literature from classical to modern. Atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) is recognized as the most important component of the greenhouse gases, the concentration of which has increased rapidly since the pre-industrial era due to anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG). The accurate monitoring of carbon dioxide is essential to study the global carbon cycle and radiation budget on Earth. The Aerosol and Carbon Detection Lidar (ACDL) instrument onboard the Atmospheric Environmental Monitoring Satellite (AEMS) was successfully launched in April 2022, which allows a new perspective to quantify the global spatial distribution of atmospheric CO2 with high accuracy. In this work, the impact of the Doppler shift on CO2 measurements for an integrated-path differential absorption (IPDA) light detection and ranging (lidar) system was evaluated to meet the weighted column-averaged mixing ratio of carbon dioxide (XCO2) measurement requirements of less than one part per million (ppm). The measurement uncertainties due to the Doppler shift were first evaluated in airborne IPDA observations. The result shows that most of the Doppler shift is in the range of 6–8 MHz, resulting in 0.26-0.39 ppm deviations in the XCO2 results. The deviations between the XCO2 retrievals and in situ measurements decreased to 0.16 ppm after the correction of the Doppler shift from 11:28:29 to 11:28:49 in the flight campaign. In addition, the online Doppler shift accounts for 98% of the deviations between XCO2 retrievals and in situ measurements. Furthermore, the impact of the Doppler shift on ACDL measurements is also assessed. The differences between the XCO2 retrievals with and without Doppler shift are used to quantify measurement uncertainties due to the Doppler effect. The simulations reveal that a pointing misalignment of 0.067 mrad can lead to a mean bias of about 0.30 ppm (0.072%) in the CO2 column. In addition, CO2 measurements are more sensitive to the Doppler shift at high altitudes for IPDA lidar, so the largest differences in the CO2 columns are found on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau in China. The Beijing Winter Olympics brought a historical miracle to the development of China's ice and snow tourism. It is both an opportunity and a challenge to reap the extra dividends of the times and to develop China's ice and snow tourism. By selecting 18 academic papers, this special issue deeply discusses the status quo and the future measures of ice and snow tourism in China from three aspects: ice and snow tourism development and management, the ice and snow tourism experience and its influencing factors, and ice and snow tourism impact assessment. Moreover, one part entitled "Tourism Culture and Ecotourism" has been set up to emphasize those cutting-edge research topics. It is worth mentioning that this issue is in-depth and has profound connotations. First of all, the research area ranges from national to regional to the city-level, including both longitudinal and horizontal research. In additon, the research methods are practical, innovative, and at the frontier of scientific research, and include industrial correlation analysis methods, kernel density, spatial autocorrelation and other geospatial analysis methods, content analysis methods, sentiment analysis methods, structural equation models, Delphi methods, spatial statistics methods, geographic detector method and many others. In general, this special issue combines qualitative research with quantitative research, provides a variety of theoretical perspectives such as perceived value theory, institutional evolution theory, etc., and builds various useful models like the pre-competition evaluation model for ice and snow tourism heritage, the consumption skill-travel radius decision-making influence model under the moderating effect of the ski resort comprehensive leisure environment, the evaluation model of the suitability of glacier tourism resource development, the model of the relationship between tourists' experience value and loyalty in the context of ice and snow tourism, among others. These studies are expected to provide theoretical and practical guidance for the development of ice and snow tourism in the post-Winter Olympics era, and help ice and snow tourism develop in a sustainable and high-quality direction. Chiropractors (DCs) and Osteopaths (DOs) started out primarily by manipulating the human body to cure diseases without the need for drugs. With the development of American medicine, the two professions of chiropractor and osteopath have embarked on two different development paths. The Osteopath (DO) joined the Allopathic medicine (MD), and have become one part of the mainstream of Western medicine. However, Osteopaths are now also increasingly using medication and surgery, considered a departure from their original principles. Chiropractors (DCs) are not integrated with Allopathic medicine (MDs) as they still mainly use manipulations, but also they use other non-medication and non-surgery treatments. How similar is the developmental track of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China and abroad. Comparing the relationship between the segments of spinal nerves and meridians with the whole human body reveals the similarity in schools of thought. Chiropractic and Osteopathic medicine in the United States and acupuncture/Chinese medicine are highly similar in ideas and concepts. Combining these two schools of thought may be the best way to study the human body from the structural perspective and improve the integration of Chinese and Western medicine. The clinical application of AcuChiro Therapy is to optimize various diagnosing and therapeutic techniques, integrate diagnoses and treatments to be safe and efficient. The diagnosis applies the latest spinal health knowledge, dynamic examination of the spine, accurate muscle testing, and meridian differentiation that are particularly related to acupuncture. The treatment is based on acupuncture and chiropractic techniques combined with acupressure/tuina, stretching, exercises and so on. Typical examples have been reported previously on AcuChiro Therapy for spinal and whole body disorders. The combination model of acupuncture and chiropractic is the integration of Chinese and Western medicine theories, and the optimized application of various clinical techniques such as acupuncture and chiropractic to form AcuChiro Therapy. Under the circumstance that the integrative Chinese and Western medicine has been criticized, AcuChiro Therapy attempts to organically integrate Chinese and Western medicine, and explores a way for future integrative medicine. In order to improve energy consumption structure in Guizhou province, China, the efficient development of shale gas becomes more and more important. However, the theoretical understanding, towards microscopic gas flow mechanism, is still weak and insufficient. Although many models have been established, one part of them fails to cover all flow mechanisms, and the other part contains several fitting parameters. Moreover, nanopores can be divided into circular pore and slit pore in accordance with pore geometry. For cylindrical nanopores, by fully comparing with the existed models, a new bulk-gas transport model is proposed by weight superposition of slip flow and Knudsen diffusion, in which weight factors are obtained by Wu's model and Knudsen's model, respectively. For slit pores, an analytical equation for bulk-gas flow is proposed as well, which is free of any fitting parameters. The reliability of the proposed models has been clarified. The impacts of reservoir pressure, pore scale, and gas flow mechanism on bulk-gas flow behavior in process of shale gas development are analyzed. It is found that gas transport capacity of slit nanopores is significantly higher than that of cylindrical nanopores at the same pore scale. For slit nanopores, the larger the aspect ratio, the stronger bulk-gas transmission capacity. As the established models are free of fitting parameters and can be applied into the entire K n range with sufficient accuracy, the research will greatly benefit shale gas development. The natural environment is deteriorating. However, humans have not slowed down their pace of resource depletion and environmental destruction. This research takes a particular path to understanding environmental consumption—through a focus on temporal perspective. Evidence from six studies demonstrates the positive effect of a cyclical temporal perspective, versus a linear temporal perspective, on consumers' pro-environmental behavior. The research shows that individuals with a cyclical perspective are more likely to include the environment in the self, which leads to higher pro-environmental behavioral intentions and more pro-environmental behavior. This temporal perspective effect is attenuated for consumers already high on green values. The authors also examine a marketer-controlled moderator and show that consumers are more likely to purchase a pro-environmental product when they see a temporal-perspective-congruent promotional appeal. The research contributes to both the time perception and the environmental consumption literature and offers several practical implications for organizations to promote sustainable consumer behavior. This is a critical comparative analysis of the systematic ways in which technology and big data practices are employed in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in China and South Korea. This study argues that the success of the strategies depends not on isolated applications of technological tools but the responsive socio-technological webs of a wide range of actors and resources mobilized and coordinated through well-functioning technological, public health, and administrative infrastructures in the two countries. Moreover, the characteristic responses in the two countries, ranging from the coordination and mobilization by the state, health care and digital infrastructures as public good provision, to risk communication with the public, shed light on how the dynamics of risk society plays out along the developmental paths of the two East Asian societies. The future-oriented infrastructures for governance in risk society, the study concludes, are constituted in the imbrication of institutional, historical, and cultural factors, of which technologies are only but one part. Water and land resource utilization is an important driving force of changes in ecosystem services; therefore, research on multi-parameter coupling systems that consider "ecosystem services, water resources, and land resources" together has key significance for river basins. This study aims to reveal the interaction and mutual influence of ecosystem services and water and land resources in the Daguhe River Basin, China, based on the coupling coordination degree model. The results showed that during the period from 2000 to 2010, the coupling coordination degree values for the years 2000, 2005, and 2010 were 0.6005, 0.7292, and 0.8037. The corresponding coupling coordination classifications were categorized as "primary coordinated development", "intermediate coordinated development," and "well-coordinated development", respectively. These results reflected the fact that the relationship between water and land resource utilization and the environment tends to evolve in the direction of coordinated development (an improvement in one part corresponds to an improvement in another part) with variation in water and land utilization types, and eventually pushes the whole resource, as well as ecological and environmental systems, from low to high levels of coupling coordination degrees as observed in case of the Daguhe River Basin, China. Our research provides an overview of the interaction between ecosystem services and water and land resources in the Daguhe Basin and even in the Shandong Province. With our results, we offer new perspectives on river basin management and for planning future eco-environmental policies (the policy is specifically designed for the ecological environment) by combining water and land resource utilization. Volatiles including water on the Moon has been one of the most interesting scientific objects for decades. In this study, we systematically introduced a concept for China's Chang'E−7 (CE-7) lunar polar exploration mission which consists of five elements, the orbiter, lander, rover, and leaper, and one relay satellite. The orbiter will provide a high-resolution image preparing for landing site selection. We also proposed three phases for in-situ investigation after landing. (1) The rover and leaper will jointly investigate the sunlit area; (2) the leaper will explore cold traps; and (3) the leaper will fly back to the sunlit area and continue an extended exploration mission. An experimental penetrator launched by the lander will penetrate permanently shadowed crater walls for water ice detection. Data will be transmitted to Earth through the relay satellite due to the limited Earth visibility. We also calculated the illumination rate within a 15 × 15 km area that partially covers the Shackleton crater at a high spatial resolution of 20 m/pixel during lunar southern summer. Specifically, we compared two potential landing sites with accumulated illumination at different altitude levels, slopes, and distances to the target. We found that one part of the Shackleton crater rim can be a primary landing site for CE-7's both sunlit areas and cold trap explorations. • We introduce a concept design of China's Chang'E−7 lunar polar exploration mission. • The mission element leaper is newly designed to explore water ice at cold traps. • We calculate illumination rates near the Moon's south pole during southern summer. • Engineering safety and scientific goals constrain polar landing site selection. Situated in the contemporary contexts of Tibetan language movement and development in the education field, this article draws attention to the interactional nature of state-society relations and dynamic language ideologies in Tibet. It focuses on the ideological process underlying the discursive sensemaking patterns in official remarks and Tibetan reactions in the aftermath of a high-profile state intervention to reform Tibetan education in one part of the Tibetan region of Amdo in China. Although Tibetan people's concerns over language education and appeals to 'Tibetanness' empower them in resisting the repressive policy interventions from local authorities, this resistance also deploys the same metanarrative of legitimation that is fostered in state propaganda. As a result, Tibetan people's appeal to 'pure' language ideology accommodates speakers as much as it sets boundaries in the Tibetan society in the process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The superelevation phenomenon is common in the movement of debris flows around curves. This paper presents a new method to calculate the superelevation of debris flow when it encounters obstacles in the flow process. The calculation method is based on the Bingham Model for debris flow determination. In this paper, physically significant internal and external roughness coefficients are determined by analysing the internal characteristics and external channel boundary conditions of viscous debris flows in Xiedi gully, China. According to the situation of debris flow passing through the bend, when the debris flow moves to the sidewall of the gully with velocity, the movement state is divided into two parts: radial and normal. One part of the mud rock fluid continues to move in the tangential direction and generates superelevation, and the other part moves in the radial direction and generates upward climbing along the sidewall. Thus, the formula for calculating the superelevation of debris flow bend is derived. Based on the debris flow physical and dynamic parameters, such as density and weight of the debris flow, cohesion, internal friction angle, yield stress and dynamic viscosity of liquid-phase slurry, the reliability of the formula is verified, which provides a theoretical basis for future studies of debris flow disaster prevention and control in similar areas. As one part of the 'Three Norths' forest protection system, dense farmland shelterbelt networks in northeastern China could greatly modify water and sediment flows. In this paper, catchment soil erosion rate and sediment yield (SY) that are impacted by farmland shelterbelts were estimated using WaTEM/SEDEM model. The shelterbelts reduced catchment soil erosion and SY to some extent. The mean soil erosion rate and specific sediment yield (SSY; defined as the ratio of SY to catchment area; t km−2 yr−1) of the 25 reservoir catchments decreased from 351.6 and 93.9 t km−2 yr−1 under the supposed scenario without shelterbelts to 331.1 t km−2 yr−1 and 86.3% t km−2 yr−1 under the current situation with shelterbelts. The sediment trap efficiencies (STEs) varied from 0.01% to 23.6% with an average value of 7.6%. The STEs were significantly correlated with shelterbelt density, catchment perimeter, topographic factors, RUSLEP‐factor and land use patterns including patch density (PD), patch cohesion index (COHESION), Shannon's diversity index (SHDI) and aggregation index (AI). The multiple regression equation involving factors of catchment's topography and morphology and land use pattern has a satisfactory performance, and mean slope gradient (MSG) and AI explained most of the variability of shelterbelts' STE. There are many descriptions of media realities in China and India. Few of them, however, look at these countries from the theoretical classification framework, and those who do often do not pay proper attention to the Western orientation of existing classifications. Denis McQuail's models of dominance and pluralism are not frequently mentioned in global media studies, and this article adds to the scholarly discussion about their use to explain media environments in the countries like India, which uses Western standards of media system, although having a cultural and historical background that is different from the West, and China, which despite implementation of one part of the Western approach, such as commercialization, ignores or rejects the others. Background: In recent decades the future of global forests has been a matter of increasing concern, particularly in relation to the threat of forest ecosystem responses under potential climate change. To the future predictions of these responses, the current forest biomass carbon storage (FCS) should first be clarified as much as possible, especially at national scales. However, few studies have introduced how to verify an FCS estimate by delimiting the reasonable ranges. This paper addresses an estimation of national FCS and its verification using two-step process to narrow the uncertainty. Our study focuses on a methodology for reducing the uncertainty resulted by converting from growing stock volume to above- and below-ground biomass (AB biomass), so as to eliminate the significant bias in national scale estimations. Methods: We recommend splitting the estimation into two parts, one part for stem and the other part for AB biomass to preclude possible significant bias. Our method estimates the stem biomass from volume and wood density (WD), and converts the AB biomass from stem biomass by using allometric relationships. Results: Based on the presented two-step process, the estimation of China's FCS is performed as an example to explicate how to infer the ranges of national FCS. The experimental results demonstrate a national FCS estimation within the reasonable ranges (relative errors: + 4.46% and − 4.44%), e.g., 5.6–6.1 PgC for China's forest ecosystem at the beginning of the 2010s. These ranges are less than 0.52 PgC for confirming each FCS estimate of different periods during the last 40 years. In addition, our results suggest the upper-limits by specifying a highly impractical value of WD (0.7 t∙m− 3) on the national scale. As a control reference, this value decides what estimate is impossible to achieve for the FCS estimates. Conclusions: Presented methodological analysis highlights the possibility to determine a range that the true value could be located in. The two-step process will help to verify national FCS and also to reduce uncertainty in related studies. While the true value of national FCS is immeasurable, our work should motivate future studies that explore new estimations to approach the true value by narrowing the uncertainty in FCS estimations on national and global scales. Inner Mongolia's grassland is one of the most complete natural grasslands for ecological diversity and biodiversity conservation in the world. However, its degradation has seriously affected the plateau's sustainable development and grassland restoration and reconstruction. To reveal the response of soil-plant synergistic relationship to different degrees of degradation, we selected three degrees of degradation (total coverage of vegetation:20%-30%, LD), moderate degradation (total coverage of vegetation:10%-20%, MD) and severe degradation (total coverage of vegetation:<10%, SD) on typical grasslands in Inner Mongolia (3 transects per degraded plot, three replicates per transect, a total of 27 quadrats). Correspondence between vegetation and soil under different degrees of degradation was obtained by correlation analysis. Soil physical properties influence degradation degree much more than soil depth. Among them, the most obvious total nitrogen (TN) decreased by 251.63% and 125.81% under moderate degradation (MD) and severe degradation (SD) respectively, compared with light degradation (LD). When the degree of degradation increased, the number of species reduced, and when compared to light degradation, moderate degradation and severe degradation decreased by 52.38% and 66.67%, respectively. The declining trend in the number of species was also indicated by Simpson, Margalef, and Shannon-Winener in addition to the Pielou index. The impact of soil erosion on soil quality is still not systematically understood. The purpose of this study was thus to quantify the impact of soil erosion on soil quality and its change with slope morphology in an agricultural field, northeastern China based on radionuclide 137Cs, unmanned aerial vehicle derived high resolution digital elevation model, and soil sampling. 137Cs method yielded an average soil erosion rate of − 275 t km−2 yr−1 ranging from − 1870 to 1557 t km−2 yr−1. The soil quality index derived from total dataset (SQI_TDS) can be well explained by that derived from minimum data set (SQI_MDS) with a determination coefficient R2 of 0.874. SOM, sand, and cation exchange capacity in the MDS play more important roles than other soil indicators. Soil quality was significantly affected by soil erosion, with Adj. R2 of 0.29 and 0.33 for SQI_TDS and SQI_MDS, respectively. The spatial variations of soil erosion and soil quality were both affected by slope topography. Background: Baitouweng decoction (BTW) is a classic botanical drugs formula that has been widely used clinically for the treatment of gut-related disorders in China. However, its role in ameliorating ulcerative colitis (UC) remains to be explored. Purpose: The study aimed to determine the therapeutic efficacy and potential mechanismof action of BTWon dextran sodiumsulfate (DSS)-induced colitismice. Methods: In vivo: 3.5% DSS-induced experimental colitis mice were treated with BTW (Pulsatilla chinensis (Bunge) Regel, Phellodendron chinense C. K. Schneid, Coptis chinensis Franch and Fraxinus chinensis Roxb), kynurenine or DOPA decarboxylase (DDC) inhibitor (carbidopa). In vitro: Caco-2 cells were stimulated with TNF-a to activate inflammation and later treated with various concentrations of BTW and carbidopa. Model evaluation included body weight, disease activity index (DAI) score, colon length and histopathology. Cytokine levels were measured by flow cytometry. Protein levels were analyzed by proteomics and functionally annotated. The levels of tryptophan metabolites in mouse serum and colon were detected by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Alcian Blue/Phosphate Acid Schiff (AB/PAS) staining, immunohistochemistry and western blot were used to assess the intestinal barrier function and detect the protein expression levels. Results: BTW significantly reduced the DAI, ameliorated colonic injury and regulated inflammatory cytokines in DSS-induced colitis mice. The botanical drugs formula also promoted intestinal epithelial barrier repair by enhancing the expression of the tight junction (TJ) proteins. Tryptophan metabolic signaling pathway was significantly enriched in DSS-induced UC mice, and BTW decreased the level of kynurenine, increased indole metabolites. The therapeutic effect of BTW was evidently reduced when kynurenine was given to mice. Also, BTW promoted DDC protein expression and activated the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR)/IL-22 signaling pathway. Conclusion: BTW improves ulcerative colitis by promoting DDC expression, regulating the conversion of tryptophan metabolism from the kynurenine pathway to the indole metabolism pathway, thereby modulating tryptophan metabolism to increase indole metabolites, and activating AHR receptors to restore intestinal barrier function. With the progression of many shale gas wells in the Sichuan-Chongqing region of China into the middle and late stages of exploitation, the problem of sand production in these wells is a primary factor influencing production. Failure to implement measures to remove sand from the gas wells will lead to a sharp decline in production after a certain period of exploitation. Moreover, As the amount of sand produced in the well increases, the production layer will be potentially buried by sand. To boost the production of shale gas wells in the Sichuan-Chongqing region and improve production efficiency, a novel downhole jet sand-washing device has been developed. Upon analyzing the device's overall structure, it is revealed that the device adopts a structural design integrating a jet pump with an efficient sand- washing nozzle, providing dual capabilities for jet sand- washing and sand conveying via negative pressure. To enhance the sand- washing and unblocking performance of the device, various sand- washing fluids and the structures of different sand- washing nozzles are compared for selection, aiming to elevate the device's sand- washing and unblocking performance from a macro perspective. Subsequently, drawing on simulation and internal flow field analysis of the device's sand- washing and unblocking process through CFD and the control variable method, it is ultimately found that the length diameter ratio of the cylindrical segment of the nozzle outlet, the outlet diameter, and the contraction angle of the nozzle greatly influence the device's sand- washing and unblocking performance. And the optimum ranges for the length-diameter ratio of the cylindrical segment of the nozzle outlet, the outlet diameter, the contraction angle of the nozzle, and the inlet diameter are 2 to 4, 6 mm to 10 mm, 12° to 16°, and 18 mm and 22 mm, respectively. The findings of the research not only provide new insights into existing sand removal processes but also offer a novel structure for current downhole sand removal devices and a specific range for the optimal size of the nozzle. Mangrove forests are crucial wetland ecosystems located in tropical and subtropical intertidal zones, but they have become extensively degraded. As a viable ecological restoration strategy, the cultivation of native mangrove vegetation in these degraded areas has gained considerable attention. Mangroves' unique environmental conditions make them suitable habitats for diverse microbial communities, including Archaea - one of the main microbial communities in mangrove sediments - which plays a pivotal role in biogeochemical cycles.However, little is known about the dynamics of archaeal communities during mangrove restoration through phytoremediation. In this study, we investigated the physicochemical properties of sediment profiles from natural and artificially restored mangrove ecosystems in Tieshan Bay. We utilized quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and 16S rRNA gene sequencing techniques to explore differences in abundance, community structure, and composition of archaeal communities between sediment profiles in natural and artificially restored mangrove ecosystems. We also examined correlations between archaeal communities and environmental factors. Our results revealed that Crenarchaeota, Thermoplasmatota, Asgardarchaeota, Nanoarchaeota, and Euryarchaeota were the predominant archaeal phyla, with significant variation in sediment composition observed for Crenarchaeota and Thermoplasmatota in different depths. We also found significant differences in archaeal abundance and community composition between natural and restored mangrove sediments. Furthermore, C/N ratio and pH emerged as primary drivers of archaeal communities in wet and dry season sediments, respectively. Additionally, the study revealed seasonal disparities in seasonal differences in the relative abundance of certain archaeal groups (such as Asgardarchaeota, Nanoarchaeota). Network analysis demonstrated stronger interconnections among archaeal communities in sediments from natural mangroves than from artificially restored ones. These findings enhance our knowledge of archaeal community succession patterns in mangrove restoration, as well as provide fresh perspectives for the sustainable management of mangrove ecosystems. Simple Summary: In China, high-grain diets for ruminants due to forage scarcity cause metabolic disorders. Yeast culture promotes rumen health by stabilizing microbial composition and enhancing nutrition and immunity. Therefore, the objective of this experiment was mainly to investigate the effect of the addition of two different species of yeast culture on goat production performance, rumen fermentation profile, microbial balance, and immunity under high-grain conditions. The results indicated that the incorporation of yeast culture into a high-grain diet significantly enhanced the production performance of goats, augmented their immunity, and stabilized the rumen environment. However, different types of yeast cultures acted by different mechanisms. The results provide a reference for the rational application of yeast culture in production. It is a common practice among farmers to utilize high-grain diets with the intention of promoting ruminant growth. However, this approach bears the risk of inducing rumen disorders and nutrient metabolism diseases. Yeast culture (YC) showed advantages in ruminant applications. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of adding two different types of YC to high-grain conditions on production performance, rumen fermentation profile, microbial abundance, and immunity in goats. A total of 30 male goats with similar body condition were randomly distributed into 3 dietary treatments with 10 replicates per treatment as follows: basic diet group (CON); basic diet + 0.5% yeast culture 1 (YC1) group; basic diet + 0.5% yeast culture 2 (YC2) group. The trial lasted for 36 days. The results demonstrated that dietary YC supplementation led to an increase in the average daily gain and a reduction in feed intake and weight gain ratio in goats. It increased the apparent digestibility of crude protein, NDF, and ADF (p < 0.05). The serum concentrations of interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and Tumor Necrosis Factor-α in the control group were significantly higher than those of the YC groups (p < 0.05). The serum concentrations of Immunoglobulin (Ig)A and IgG in the control group were significantly lower than those in the YC groups (p < 0.05). The rumen concentration of microbial protein (MCP) in the control group was significantly lower than that in the YC groups (p < 0.05). There was a negative correlation between the concentration of IL-10 and Bacteroidota, Spirochaetota, and Succinivibrio, while there was a positive correlation between concentrations of IL-10 and Firmicutes. Nevertheless, discrepancies were observed in the impact of the two different types of YC on the physiological and biochemical indicators of the animals. The concentration of triglyceride in the YC1 group was significantly higher than that of the CON and YC2 groups, while the concentration of urea in the YC2 group was significantly higher than that of the CON and YC1 groups (p < 0.05). At the phylum level, the addition of YC2 to the diet significantly increased the relative abundance of Bacteroidota and Fibrobacterota and significantly decreased Firmicutes compared to the control. At the genus level, the addition of YC1 to the HGD significantly reduced the relative abundance of Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group, while the addition of YC2 to the HGD significantly increased the relative abundance of Prevotellace-ae_UCG-001, Fibrobacter, and Prevotellaceae_UCG-003 (p < 0.05). The addition of YC significantly improved growth performance, increased nutrient digestibility, beneficially manipulated ruminal fermentation and microbial diversity, and improved immune function. The Songnen grassland is an important resource for livestock production in China. Due to the intensification of anthropogenic activities in recent years, vegetation degradation has worsened, and the salinization of grassland has become increasingly serious, which severely affects the sustainable development of grassland animal husbandry. In this study, organic fertilizer addition was carried out at saline-and-alkaline-degraded Songnen grassland sites with photovoltaic panels, and we investigated the effects of organic fertilizer treatments on the vegetation and soil bacteria in these areas. The results showed that both organic fertilizer treatments increased the community composition and diversity indices of plants (p < 0.05); they also had significant effects on soil electrical conductivity and rapidly available potassium (p < 0.05). In the dominant phylum of bacteria, the relative abundance of Firmicutes increased without adding organic fertilizer under the photovoltaic panel; the addition of organic fertilizer had a significant effect on the relative abundance of Firmicutes and Desulfobacterota (p < 0.05), reducing their relative abundance, respectively. There were differences in the number of bacteria at the genus level under different treatments compared to the control, with the highest enrichment of bacteria occurring at the OFE position, and a significant difference (p < 0.05) being found between the control and the other four groups at the genus level of g_norank_f_norank_o_Actinomarinales. Organic fertilizer had a significant effect on the bacterial Simpson diversity index, with the most significant increasing trend found in OFE (the front eaves of the photovoltaic panel in fertilization area). The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River serve as principal rice production bases in China, yet the biodiversity and ecological processes of bacterial communities in paddy soils are not well understood. This study explores the diversity, composition, ecological function, and assembly processes of abundant and rare bacterial communities in paddy soils. A total of 129 paddy soil samples from 43 sites along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River were collected and analyzed using NovaSeq sequencing. The results showed that the dominant phylum for both abundant and rare taxa was Proteobacteria, with a greater relative abundance of the abundant taxa. The diversity of the abundant community was lower than that of the rare community. Soil properties and geographic variables explained more of the variation in the abundant community than in the rare community. The rare community exhibited a significant distance‐decay relationship. The assembly of the abundant community was more influenced by stochastic processes, although both the abundant and rare communities were governed by stochastic processes. It is concluded that both abundant and rare bacterial communities exhibit differing biogeographic patterns, yet they undergo similar ecological processes in the paddy soils along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. These observations offer a theoretical framework for a deeper comprehension of the function of both abundant and rare bacteria, as well as the development and preservation of soil bacterial diversity within agricultural ecosystems. Simple Summary: Bactrocera tsuneonis (Miyake) is a significant pest of commercial citrus crops. It is a univoltine and oligophagous species widely distributed in Japan and China. In this study, the potential distribution of the B. tsuneonis population under current and different future climate change scenarios was modeled using MaxEnt software (v. 3.4.1) and optimized using R software (v. 4.3.2). Under current climate conditions, the potentially suitable areas were mainly concentrated in Central, South, and East China. The total area of habitats suitable for this pest was predicted to increase in the future climate scenarios. The centroid of the total suitable habitat for this pest gradually shifted westward and northward. Our findings provide new insights that could aid the monitoring of B. tsuneonis in China. The invasive pest, Bactrocera tsuneonis (Miyake), has become a significant threat to China's citrus industry. Predicting the area of potentially suitable habitats for B. tsuneonis is essential for optimizing pest control strategies that mitigate its impact on the citrus industry. Here, existing distribution data for B. tsuneonis, as well as current climate data and projections for four future periods (2021–2040, 2041–2060, 2061–2080, and 2081–2100) from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) were obtained. The distribution of B. tsuneonis under current and different climate change scenarios in China was predicted using the optimized MaxEnt model, ArcGIS, and the ENMeval data package. Model accuracy was assessed using ROC curves, and the primary environmental factors influencing the distribution of the pest were identified based on the percent contribution. When the regularization multiplier (RM) was set to 1.5 and the feature combination (FC) was set to LQH, a model with lower complexity was obtained. Under these parameter settings, the mean training AUC was 0.9916, and the mean testing AUC was 0.9854, indicating high predictive performance. The most influential environmental variables limiting the distribution of B. tsuneonis were the Precipitation of Warmest Quarter (Bio18) and Temperature Seasonality (standard deviation ×100) (Bio4). Under current climatic conditions, potentially suitable habitat for B. tsuneonis in China covered an area of 215.9 × 104 km2, accounting for 22.49% of the country's land area. Potentially suitable habitat was primarily concentrated in Central China, South China, and East China. However, under future climatic projections, the area of suitable habitat for B. tsuneonis exhibited varying degrees of expansion. Furthermore, the centroid of the total suitable habitat for this pest gradually shifted westward and northward. These findings suggest that B. tsuneonis will spread to northern and western regions of China under future climate changes. The results of our study indicate that climate change will have a major effect on the invasion of B. tsuneonis and have implications for the development of strategies to control the spread of B. tsuneonis in China. Islam is widely spread throughout every corner of China, with the Hui people, the largest Muslim ethnic group in China, numbering over 10 million people, serving as its main carrier. Their culture types and local features exhibit great diversity across different provinces. The ceremony of Prophet's Day or Mawlid al-Nabi in China, as one of the three fundamental festivals of the Hui people alongside Eid al-Fitur and Eid al-Qurban, appears to be more comprehensive, open, and localized. Drawing from fieldwork in three Hui communities—Xi'an in Shaanxi province, Najiaying in Yunnan province, and Hezhou in Gansu province—this paper approaches the topic from the perspective of inculturation and cultural innovation. It aims to describe the ritual processes observed in these three different Hui communities and discuss how the Hui people integrate Islam with traditional Chinese culture in their local contexts, with the intention of forming and preserving their own cultural characteristics. Promoting the productivity and environmental sustainability of aquaculture is critical in ensuring its healthy development. This study assesses freshwater aquaculture's technical efficiency and ecological efficiency in China's 19 inland provinces from 2008 to 2019, aiming to reveal its productivity and environmental sustainability status. We employ the three‐stage Data Envelopment Analysis‐CCR (T‐DEA‐CCR) and three‐stage Slack‐Based Measure‐DEA (T‐SBM‐DEA) methods to explore the technical efficiency and the ecological efficiency while accounting for environmental conditions and random errors. The average technical efficiency and ecological efficiency during 2008–2019 are 0.857 and 0.702, respectively, indicating substantial scope for enhancing the productivity and environmental sustainability of China's inland aquaculture. We further investigate the regional development using the club convergence, finding that the provincial‐level technical efficiencies have already achieved population convergence while the ecological efficiencies diverge into two clubs, suggesting that Chinese freshwater aquaculture's productivity and environmental sustainability have different development pathways. Gypsum is a widespread mineral in various sedimentary deposits. It precipitates from natural aqueous systems with trace amounts of U but almost no Th, rendering it a potentially valuable U–Th geochronometer. However, no gypsum RM for U–Th dating has been available. In this work, two natural gypsum reference materials (PXCG-1, PXCG-2) from the PiXiao cave, southwest China were prepared and characterized for U–Th dating. U–Th contents and isotope ratios were measured on a multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (MC-ICP-MS) using the isotope dilution technique. Data from three different laboratories show good agreement in 238U content, δ234U (234U/238U relative to secular equilibrium value), 230Th/238U activity ratio, and 230Th ages (corrected) (corrected by assuming the initial 230Th/232Th ratio of the average crust value). The recommended values with the uncertainties (2σ) of these two gypsum RMs, 238U content = 1844 ± 39 ng g−1, δ234U = 229.3 ± 3.9‰, 230Th/238Uactivity = 0.5741 ± 0.0036, 230Th ages (corrected) = 66.97 ± 0.31 ka BP for PXCG-1, and 238U content = 1636 ± 50 ng g−1, δ234U = 61.0 ± 2.4‰, 230Th/238Uactivity = 0.9797 ± 0.0034, 230Th ages (corrected) = 260.82 ± 3.39 ka BP for PXCG-2, respectively. Information values of 232Th content, 230Th/232Th atomic ratio, 230Th age (uncorrected), and δ234Uinitial are also provided. PXCG-1 and PXCG-2 are the first reported gypsum age RMs for U–Th dating, making them a useful complement to the widely distributed carbonate age reference materials for U–Th disequilibrium dating in Pleistocene–Holocene deposits. Background and aims: Phosphorus (P) fertilization affects plant diversity and ecosystem function by changing the abundance and composition of functional soil microorganisms and genes. Understanding the mechanisms regulating the soil carbon (C), nitrogen (N), sulfur (S), and P cycle across different P fertilizer inputs is crucial to the management of P in sustainable agroecosystems. Methods: We investigated whether soil functional microorganisms affected the coupling of the abundance of soil C, N, P, and S genes under long-term (up to 14 years) P fertilizer input (0, 21.8, 43.6, and 87.2 kg P ha−1 yr−1) on the Loess Plateau of China. Results: Long-term P fertilizer input resulted in the increased abundance of soil functional microorganisms and the expression of soil C cycle genes but decreased soil P cycle genes. The relative abundance of ecological clusters (including bacteria, fungi, and archaea) was significantly correlated with functional genes related to the C, N, P, and S cycles. Soil Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria, Cyanobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Chloroflexi were the keystone taxa mediating soil nutrient cycling in wheat fields. Both Mantel's test and structural equation modeling indicated that the shifts in soil available C and P were the major factors driving the coupling of soil functional microorganisms and genes. Conclusions: The changes in soil microorganisms and genes can drive soil nutrient cycling and promote crop growth, suggesting that their relationship can provide new insight for understanding the microbial mechanisms of soil P turnover in sustainable agroecosystems. Partitioning soil water balance (SWB) is an effective approach for deciphering the impacts of vegetation change on soil hydrological processes. Growing apple trees on the Loess Plateau, China, leads to a substantial deep soil water deficit, posing a serious threat to the sustainable development of apple production. However, the impact of deep-rooted apple trees on SWB remains poorly understood. In this study, we conducted a "Paired Plot" experiment to achieve this objective by decoupling SWB components using water stable isotopes, tritium, and soil water contents from deep soil cores (up to 25 m) under apple orchards with a stand age gradient of 8–23 years. The results showed that deep soil water storage under apple orchards was notably reduced compared to nearby farmland, showing a stand age-related pattern of deep soil water deficit (R2 = 0.91). By analyzing the changing patterns of SWB components, we found that the main factor driving this deficit is the water uptake process controlled by the deep root system. This process is triggered by the increased transpiration demand of apple trees and short-term water scarcity. These findings have implications for understanding soil water dynamics, sustainable agroforestry management, and soil water resources' protection in this region and other similar water-limited areas. In recent years, frequent chemical production safety incidents in China have been primarily attributed to dangerous behaviors by workers. Current monitoring methods predominantly rely on manual supervision, which is not only inefficient but also prone to errors in complex environments and with varying target scales, leading to missed or incorrect detections. To address this issue, we propose a deep learning-based object detection model, YOLO-GP. First, we utilize a grouped pointwise convolutional (GPConv) module of symmetric structure to facilitate information exchange and feature fusion in the channel dimension, thereby extracting more accurate feature representations. Building upon the YOLOv8n model, we integrate the symmetric structure convolutional GPConv module and design the dual-branch aggregation module (DAM) and Efficient Spatial Pyramid Pooling (ESPP) module to enhance the richness of gradient flow information and the capture of multi-scale features, respectively. Finally, we develop a channel feature enhancement network (CFE-Net) to strengthen inter-channel interactions, improving the model's performance in complex scenarios. Experimental results demonstrate that YOLO-GP achieves a 1.56% and 11.46% improvement in the mAP@.5:.95 metric on a custom dangerous behavior dataset and a public Construction Site Safety Image Dataset, respectively, compared to the baseline model. This highlights its superiority in dangerous behavior object detection tasks. Wolfiporia cocos is a medicinal mushroom used in China. It biosynthesizes pachymic acid (PA), a main therapeutic triterpene associated with therapies. Nowadays, the unknown PA biosynthesis leads to difficulties in increasing its content in W. cocos. Herein, we report sequencing, assembling, and characterization of the genome and several transcriptomes of W. cocos. Sequence mining determined candidate genes that encode lanosterol synthase, sterol O-acyltransferase, and sterol C-24 methyltransferase likely involved in the steps from lanosterol to PA. Gene cluster analysis identified four CYP450 cDNAs likely involved in the biosynthesis of PA, namely WcCYP64-1, WcCYP64-2, WcCYP52, and WcCYP_FUM15, which were subjected to both overexpression and silencing in mycelia. The overexpression of each of WcCYP64-1, WcCYP52 and WcCYP_FUM15 increased the content of PA, 16α-hydroxytrametenolic acid, eburicoic acid, and tumulosic acid, while the silencing of each gene either significantly or slightly decreased the contents of these four compounds, indicating their involvement in the PA biosynthesis. In addition, different temperatures affected the expression of these genes and the formation of PA. By contrast, the overexpression and silencing of WcCYP64-2 did not alter the formation of these compounds. Taken together, these findings determine more potential steps in the biosynthetic pathway of PA for metabolic engineering. Transforming smallholder farms is critical to global food security and environmental sustainability. The science and technology backyard (STB) platform has proved to be a viable approach in China. However, STB has traditionally focused on empowering smallholder farmers by transferring knowledge, and wide-scale adoption of more sustainable practices and technologies remains a challenge. Here, we report on a long-term project focused on technology scale-up for smallholder farmers by expanding and upgrading the original STB platform (STB 2.0). We created a formalized and standardized process by which to engage and collaborate with farmers, including integrating their feedback via equal dialogues in the process of designing and promoting technologies. Based on 288 site-year of field trials in three regions in the North China Plain over 5 y, we find that technologies cocreated through this process were more easily accepted by farmers and increased their crop yields and nitrogen factor productivity by 7.2% and 28.1% in wheat production and by 11.4% and 27.0% in maize production, respectively. In promoting these technologies more broadly, we created a "one-stop" multistakeholder program involving local government agencies, enterprises, universities, and farmers. The program was shown to be much more effective than the traditional extension methods applied at the STB, yielding substantial environmental and economic benefits. Our study contributes an important case study for technology scale-up for smallholder agriculture. The STB 2.0 platform being explored emphasizes equal dialogue with farmers, multistakeholder collaboration, and long-term investment. In order to enhance passenger willingness to choose buses for commuting and to reduce the operating costs and tailpipe emissions of bus companies, a bus scheduling model is established. The model aims to minimize the sum of the operating costs of the bus company, the costs associated with the loss of passengers' interest, and the cost of tailpipe emissions. It considers constraints such as maintaining an average load factor of the buses above 60%, ensuring a departure interval of greater than 5 min during non-peak hours and less than 30 min during peak hours, and limiting the maximum number of buses allocated to a route. The passenger flow is divided into peak hours and nonpeak hours according to the survey of passenger flow during each period of a bus operation on a route in Nanjing City, China. A genetic algorithm is employed to solve the proposed bus scheduling model and determine the total costs during peak and non-peak hours. After designing the parameters of the genetic algorithm, optimal departure intervals and bus numbers for a day's operation cycle on a given route are calculated using a weighting method. Objective: To investigate the anxiety levels, sleep quality and potential risk factors of healthcare practitioners involved in the management of COVID-19 patients in a mobile cabin hospital, and further to assess the impact of progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) on their anxiety levels and sleep quality. Methods: We conducted a pre-post self-controlled trial. Healthcare practitioners meeting the inclusion criteria underwent daily 30-min PMR sessions for seven consecutive days. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) were used to assess the anxiety and sleep quality of subjects pre- and post-intervention. Statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H test, and Spearman rank correlation. Results: A total of 94 participants completed the study. No statistically significant differences in HAMA or PSQI total scores were observed between groups categorized based on demographic variables such as age, sex, and years of education (p > 0.05). The PSQI total score and its components (excluding sleep medication usage) exhibited a positive correlation with the HAMA total score and its psychological anxiety component (p < 0.05), and a correlation was observed between somatic anxiety manifestations and several components of the PSQI. The PSQI total scores before and after intervention were 10.0 (8.0, 13.0) and 8.0 (6.0, 9.0) respectively (p < 0.001); the HAMA total scores were 8.0 (5.0, 13.0) and 6.0 (4.0, 9.5) respectively (p < 0.001). The detection rates of poor sleep and anxiety states, along with their severity, significantly decreased post-intervention (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Healthcare practitioners experience prominent anxiety and sleep issues in the mobile cabin hospital. PMR can be an effective intervention for improving the anxiety and sleep quality of healthcare professionals during support periods in the mobile cabin hospital. Simple Summary: Transport is an unavoidable and important part of livestock husbandry. Live sheep transport is a period of high risk to their welfare, and potentially a huge hidden economic loss due to the effects on their health and/or the quality of their carcasses. Public concern about livestock transport indicates that it is important to improve the welfare of animals being transported. Prolonged transport and pre-transport fasting may particularly stress sheep, as well as potentially adversely affecting subsequent growth and/or carcass quality after slaughter. We investigated the effects of different transport times and pre-transport feeding during summer on the welfare of transported sheep of the Dorper × Mongolian breed, which are typical of the region and may be tolerant of the high temperatures in the Inner Mongolian summer. We selected 4-month-old male sheep to conduct two transport experiments, measuring the relevant blood biochemical indicators to evaluate the level of animal welfare. We found that three hours transport, compared with one hour, reduced the nutritional status of sheep, and that 12 h fasting before transport reduced the sheep's nutritional status. Increased cortisol in sheep fed pre-transport may indicate that sheep are less stressed by the transport if they have been fasted. We therefore recommend that, during hot weather, sheep transport is confined to short periods. Regarding fasting, we recommend that sheep are not fasted for a long period beforehand, because of the decline in nutritional status. Transport is a high-risk time for sheep, especially if the distances are long and sheep are fasted for a long time beforehand. Two experiments were conducted to compare transport durations of 1 hour (1 h) and 3 hours (3 h) and the effects of feeding before transport using Dorper × Mongolian sheep, which are typical of the region and may be tolerant of the high temperatures in the Inner Mongolian summer. Thirty 4-month-old male sheep were randomly divided into two treatment groups, with 15 sheep/treatment in each experiment, to evaluate the effects on blood biochemical indicators, stress hormone levels, rectal temperatures, and antioxidant status of lambs in summer. In Experiment 1, the levels of triglycerides and free fatty acids after 3 h transport were significantly lower than after 1 h transport (p < 0.05). The levels of thyroxine and malondialdehyde in blood were greater after 3 h transport than 1 h transport (p < 0.05). Creatine kinase levels after 3 h transport tended to be lower than after 1 h transport (p = 0.051). In Experiment 2, the levels of urea and superoxide dismutase in the group fasted pre-transport was significantly lower than those of the group fed pre-transport (p < 0.05). The serum cortisol level in the pre-transport fed group was higher compared to the group fed pre-transport (p = 0.04). Total antioxidant capacity in the pre-transport fasted group tended to be lower compared to that in the pre-transport fed group (p < 0.0001). We conclude that the reduction in nutritional status of sheep transported for longer and without feed pre-transport suggests that transporting sheep in hot conditions in northern China after fasting for a long period should be restricted. Background: Although it is a key soybean-producing region, northeast China frequently faces drought. Drought severely affects soybean growth, development and even leads to yield reduction. Methods: Sand cultivation method was employed to investigate the changes in malondialdehyde (MDA) content, nitric oxide (NO) content and individual leaf area of drought-tolerant soybean variety Heinong 44 (HN44) and drought-sensitive soybean variety Heinong 65 (HN65) under drought stress during the flowering stage, with different concentrations of sodium nitroprusside (SNP) used for irrigation. Result: The NO and MDA contents of HN44 and HN65 leaves rose in response to drought stress, MDA content in HN44 and HN65 leaves was noticeably elevated, the individual leaf area showed a downward trend. Irrigation with SNP further increased NO accumulation and reduced membrane lipid peroxidation in the leaves, with the best effect observed at a concentration of 1000 μmol·g-1. In practical production, SNP can be used to alleviate membrane lipid peroxidation damage in soybean leaves and improve soybean drought resistance when encountering drought. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Research on endophytic fungi in desert plants, particularly the epiphytic or endophytic fungi of leaves, remains limited. In the extremely arid regions of northwest China, the ultra-xerophytic desert plant Haloxylon ammodendron harbors white fungi on its assimilating branches during autumn. The hyphae of these fungi intertwine, both internally and externally, comprising superficial, bridging, and endophytic types. The superficial hyphae attach to the surface of the assimilating branches and continuously grow and intersect, forming a thick layer of felt-like hyphae. This thick, felt-like layer of hyphae facilitates the adsorption of atmospheric water vapor on the surface of the hyphae or the assimilating branches, allowing H. ammodendron to capture atmospheric moisture, even under low humidity. Some superficial hyphae penetrate the cuticle into the epidermis, becoming bridging hyphae, which can rapidly transport water from the outside of the epidermis to the inside. The endophytic hyphae shuttle within the epidermis, achieving rapid water transfer within the epidermis of the assimilating branches. The presence of these three types of hyphae not only enables the assimilating branches of H. ammodendron to achieve rapid water absorption and transmission, but also facilitates the uptake of atmospheric water vapor under low humidity conditions. We discuss the mechanism by which the hyphae promote water absorption from the perspectives of hyphal composition, the formation of felt-like structures, and environmental conditions. We consider the presence of fungal hyphae on the surface of the H. ammodendron assimilating branches as an inevitable ecological process in arid environments. This study provides important theoretical insights into the mechanisms underlying the strong drought resistance of desert plants in extremely arid regions and offers strategies for desertification control. Soil properties can affect plant population dynamics and the coexistence of native and invasive plants, thus potentially affecting community structure and invasion trends. However, the different impacts of soil physicochemical properties on species diversity and structure in native and invaded plant communities remain unclear. In this study, we established a total of 30 Alternanthera philoxeroides-invaded plots and 30 control plots in an area at the geographical boundary between North and South China. We compared the differences in species composition between the invaded and native plant communities, and we then used the methods of regression analysis, redundancy analysis (RDA), and canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) to examine the impacts of soil physicochemical properties on four α-diversity indices and the species distribution of these two types of communities. We found that A. philoxeroides invasion increased the difference between the importance values of dominant plant species, and the invasion coverage had a negative relationship with the soil-available potassium (R2 = 0.135; p = 0.046) and Patrick richness index (R2 = 0.322; p < 0.001). In the native communities, the species diversity was determined with soil chemical properties, the Patrick richness index, the Simpson dominance index, and the Shannon–Wiener diversity index, which all decreased with the increase in soil pH value, available potassium, organic matter, and ammonium nitrogen. However, in the invaded communities, the species diversity was determined by soil physical properties; the Pielou evenness index increased with increasing non-capillary porosity but decreased with increasing capillary porosity. The determinants of species distribution in the native communities were soil porosity and nitrate nitrogen, while the determinants in the invaded communities were soil bulk density and available potassium. In addition, compared with the native communities, the clustering degree of species distribution in the invaded communities intensified. Our study indicates that species diversity and distribution have significant heterogeneous responses to soil physicochemical properties between A. philoxeroides-invaded and native plant communities. Thus, we need to intensify the monitoring of soil properties in invaded habitats and conduct biotic replacement strategies based on the heterogeneous responses of native and invaded communities to effectively prevent the biotic homogenization that is caused by plant invasions under environmental changes. This study aims to assess the contents of different kinds of low-molecular-weight organic acids (LMWOAs) in reclaimed soil filled with fly ash in the Huainan mining area in China using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Using a mobile phase consisting of 0.1% phosphoric acid and acetonitrile in a volume ratio of 98:2, the detection was performed at a wavelength of 210 nm for 15 min. In addition, a cluster analysis was performed on the detected LMWOAs in the reclaimed soil. The correlations between the LMWOA and nutrient contents in the reclaimed soil were also analyzed. In total, eight and seven LMWOAs were detected in the reclaimed soil and filled fly ash, respectively. In contrast, no LMWOAs were detected in the fresh fly ash from a thermal power plant. The order of total LMWOA contents at different sampling points followed the order of farmland control soil > 1# (Triticum aestivum) > 4# (Phragmites australis) > 5# (Vigna radiata) > 2# (Sorghum bicolor) > 3# (Tamarix ramosissima) > fly ash-filled soil. The farmland control soil and fly ash-filled soil exhibited the highest and lowest LMWOA contents of 648.22 and 85.09 μg·g−1, respectively. The LMWOA contents in the reclaimed soil followed the order of oxalic acid > tartaric acid > malonic acid > lactic acid > acetic acid > citric acid > propionic acid > succinic acid. Indeed, oxalic acids exhibited the highest total amount of 1445.79 μg·g−1 and succinic acids exhibited the lowest total amount of 6.50 μg·g−1. The LMWOA contents in the reclaimed soil decreased with increasing soil depth, showing statistically significant differences between the 0–10 and 10–40 cm soil layers (p < 0.05). According to the obtained clustering results, the detected LMWOAs can be divided into two categories. The first category consisted of oxalic acid, while the second category included the remaining LMWOAs. The soil LMWOA contents of 4# (Phragmites australis) and 5# (Vigna radiata) were significantly different from those at the other sampling points. According to the Pearson correlation analysis results, the occurrence and characteristics of the soil LMWOAs can be controlled by regulating the pH values and available nutrient contents in the soil, thereby improving the eco-environmental conditions of the reclaimed rhizosphere. INTRODUCTION: After the 2008 Olympic Games, China has gradually become a prominent sports country, but there is still a certain distance from a sports power. China should improve the level of sports ability testing while continuously strengthening the construction of sports power. At present, the method of sports professional athletic ability tests in China can not be better combined with algorithms, so it is crucial to study the athletic ability test of edge computing. OBJECTIVES: To improve the ability of sports testing of sports majors in China, to improve the technical level of the construction of China's sports power, to solve the problem that China's sports ability testing cannot be better combined with algorithms, and to solve the problem that China's physical education disciplines cannot be well applied to computer technology. METHODS: Use the motor function theory and edge computing to establish the model needed, test the athletic ability of swimming sports according to the model, and analyze the advanced level and shortcomings of China's swimming sports with measurement according to the results of the athletic ability test. RESULTS: Firstly, edge computing and other algorithms are more accurate for professional athletic ability testing of swimming sports, and improving the iteration level of algorithms can improve the problem of the inconspicuous effect of sports testing; secondly, edge algorithms combined with traditional testing tools can calculate athletic ability more accurately in athletic ability testing. CONCLUSION: China should vigorously improve the level of edge computing and other algorithms to improve the problem of China's sports disciplines not being able to apply computer technology well and technically improve the level of sports training. Soil microorganisms play crucial roles in the stability of the global carbon pool, particularly in permafrost peatlands that are highly sensitive to climate change. Microtopography is a unique characteristic of peatland ecosystems, but how microtopography affects the microbial community structures and their functions in the soil is only partially known. We characterized the bacterial and fungal community compositions by amplicon sequencing and their abundances via quantitative PCR at different soil depths in three microtopographical positions (hummocks, flats, and hollows) in permafrost peatland of the Greater Xing'an Mountains in China. The results showed that the soil of hummocks displayed a higher microbial diversity compared to hollows. Microtopography exerted a strong influence on bacterial community structure, while both microtopography and soil depth greatly impacted the fungal community structure with variable effects on fungal functional guilds. Soil water content, dissolved organic carbon, total phosphorus, and total nitrogen levels of the soil mostly affected the bacterial and fungal communities. Microtopography generated variations in the soil water content, which was the main driver of the spatial distribution of microbial abundances. This information stressed that the hummock–flat–hollow microtopography of permafrost peatlands creates heterogeneity in soil physicochemical properties and hydrological conditions, thereby influencing soil microbial communities at a microhabitat scale. Our results imply that changes to the water table induced by climate warming inducing permafrost degradation will impact the composition of soil microbes in peatlands and their related biogeochemical functions, eventually providing feedback loops into the global climate system. Promoting rice straw in situ return is an important strategy for improving soil quality. From 2018 to 2021, we investigated the effects of rice straw return with microbial agents and film covering technology on soil physical and chemical properties at different layer depths, as well as the soil microbial community structure, in Hunan, southern China. This study was designed to evaluate the effects of microbial agents (T1), film mulch covering (T2), and the application of microbial agents combined with film mulch (T3) on the soil physicochemical properties and microbial community after rice straw in situ return. The results show that, after three years of continuous treatment, T3 significantly increased the soil temperature by 17.76–22.97%, T2 significantly increased the water content by 34.27–46.23%, and T1 and T3 significantly increased the soil pH. The addition of microbial agents combined with film mulch resulted in a notable increase in both the number of OTUs and the Chao1 index of soil microorganisms. Additionally, the model of promoting rice straw in situ return (the application of a microbial agent combined with film mulch) was shown to promote the growth of beneficial soil microorganisms. RDA was used for the investigation, and the findings showed that soil microorganisms were significantly influenced by the TOC content, pH, and water content. These findings provide evidence of an effective method for accelerating the decomposition of late rice straw and guiding soil improvement in tobacco–rice rotation regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Tillage modes and straw returning influence soil aggregate stability and the distribution of organic carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) in aggregates of different particle sizes. In the typical hilly regions of southwest China, the predominant soil type is purple soil, characterized by heavy texture and high stickiness, with relatively lower soil fertility compared to other soil types. The improper use of fertilizers and field management practices further exacerbates soil compaction. However, abundant straw resources in the region provide an opportunity for comprehensive straw utilization. The effective utilization of straw resources is of significant importance for stabilizing agricultural ecological balance, improving resource utilization efficiency, and alleviating ecological pressure. Previously, most studies have focused on the impact of different mechanized tillage systems on the physical and chemical properties of soil in hilly areas, while research on the preservation of water-stable aggregates' organic C and N content remains limited. In this study, the soil properties of fields under a winter pea–summer corn rotation for two years were studied with regards to the effects of straw returning on its water-stable aggregate distribution, macroaggregate content (R0.25), mean weight diameter (MWD), geometric mean diameter (GMD), and the organic C and N content in soil aggregates of different particle sizes and at different depths. The effects of five different tillage modes were assessed, namely rotary tillage with straw mixed retention (RTM), conventional tillage with straw burial retention (CTB), no-tillage with straw covered retention (NTC), subsoiling with straw covered retention (STC), and no-tillage without straw retention (NT). Based on the study results, under different tillage modes, straw returning effectively enhanced the soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (TN) reserves at the plow layer (0–30 cm), SOC increased by 17.2% to 88%, and TN increased by 8.6% to 85.9%. At the same time, the content of 0.25–2 mm aggregates increased under the straw-return treatments under different tillage patterns. The NT treatment had the lowest R0.25 and MWD and GMD values for soil aggregates at different depths, which were significantly different (p < 0.05) from the other treatment modes. The correlation coefficients between SOC and soil aggregate stability indices ranged from 0.68 to 0.90, with most of them showing highly significant positive correlations (p < 0.01). In conclusion, straw returning under different tillage systems has improved soil aggregate stability and promoted soil structure stability. Specifically, the STC treatment has shown more pronounced effects on soil improvement in the upper soil layer of the hilly regions in southwest China, while the RTM treatment is beneficial for improving the lower soil layer. Therefore, the comprehensive experimental results indicate that the combination of STC and RTM treatments represents the most promising mechanized tillage and straw returning practices for the hilly regions in southwest China. Honeybees are prone to poisoning, also known as jujube flower disease, after collecting nectar from jujube flowers, resulting in the tumultuous demise of foragers. The prevalence of jujube flower disease has become one of the main factors affecting the development of the jujube and beekeeping industries in Northern China. However, the pathogenic mechanisms underlying jujube flower disease in honeybees are poorly understood. Herein, we first conducted morphological observations of the midgut using HE-staining and found that jujube flower disease-affected honeybees displayed midgut damage with peritrophic membrane detachment. Jujube flower disease was found to increase the activity of chitinase and carboxylesterase (CarE) and decrease the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione S-transferase (GST), and the content of CYP450 in the honeybee midgut. Transcriptomic data identified 119 differentially expressed genes in the midgut of diseased and healthy honeybees, including CYP6a13, CYP6a17, CYP304a1, CYP6a14, AADC, and AGXT2, which are associated with oxidoreductase activity and vitamin binding. In summary, collecting jujube flower nectar could reduce antioxidant and detoxification capacities of the honeybee midgut and, in more severe cases, damage the intestinal structure, suggesting that intestinal damage might be the main cause of honeybee death due to jujube nectar. However, there is still no measurement instrument to evaluate the compensatory behavior of ADHD in China. This study aimed to examine the reliability and validity of the Compensatory ADHD Behaviors Scale (CABS) adapted in Chinese and explore ecological characteristics in adults with ADHD using the CABS. Patients and Methods: Data were collected from a sample of 306 adults (Mage = 26.43 years, SD = 5.32; 46.08% male). The original version CABS was translated into Chinese using the forward and backward translation procedures. Participants completed the CABS and questionnaires assessing ADHD symptoms and executive function. We utilized content validity, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and criterion validity to test the validity. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were employed to test the reliability. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to compare ADHD subgroups based on gender, ADHD subtype, comorbidities, and medication status, while controlling for demographic variables as covariates. Results: CABS exhibited good construct validity (two factors: present-oriented and future-oriented), content validity (content validity index: 0.98), internal consistency reliability (Cronbach's alpha coefficient: 0.85 to 0.87) and test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient: 0.59 to 0.88). The results of CFA showed acceptable fitness for each subscale. CABS demonstrated significant associations with inattention symptoms and plan/organizational abilities. Medicated ADHD individuals scored higher on future-oriented effectiveness subscale of CABS than non-medicated (F = 6.106, p = 0.014). Conclusion: The results indicate that the Chinese CABS exhibited good validity and reliability. It can be considered a valid tool for assessing compensatory behaviors in Chinese adults with ADHD. In recent years, there has been an emphasis on music education for social change in Anglo-American music education. This one-sided focus caused a marginalization of aesthetic aspects. This is problematic since Anglo-American music education is often seen as "international" even though it only represents one part of global thinking. In Northern Europe, aesthetic music education has been a longstanding paradigm, being based on the concept of Bildung. It emphasizes that education is about more than knowledge and skills. It is also about formation, self-actualization and contributing to the welfare of society. In view of the global crises we currently face, it might be time to rethink international music education's focus on social change and to embrace again music education's aesthetic dimensions.
