The article describes the viral corneal infections or herpes simplex virus (HSV) which remains the leading cause of herpetic ocular incidents. Diagnostic options for HSV include herpes culture-fluorescent antibody, DNA amplification, Tzanck smear, and serum antibody testing. Topical treatment strategies for HSV include antibiotics, steroids, and antivirals like trifluridine, vidarabine and ganciclovir.
