With the development of energy technology, hydrogen is gradually becoming widely used. China is also rapidly developing its own hydrogen energy industry in an effort to accomplish the "dual carbon target'. Hydrogen from methane is one of the mainstream sources, of which hydrogen from methane cracking is the decomposition of methane into hydrogen and solid carbon, with the solid carbon also having a high economic value. In particular, this technology does not emit carbon dioxide, which is very friendly to the environment, but it cannot avoid larger energy consumption. In contrast, hydrogen production from methane cracking driven by solar energy not only combines the characteristics of no CO 2 emission, but also greatly reduces the consumption of primary energy, which is the future development trend of hydrogen production from methane. This paper provides a brief overview of the various technological pathways for methane to hydrogen production in the context of China's actual development, focusing on the current status of the development and application of solar methane cracking to hydrogen production technologies at home and abroad. Among them, this paper mainly discusses the characteristics of solar reactors of different sizes and structures, and summarizes the results of related optimization studies. Meanwhile, the application of catalysts in solar reactors and the problem of carbon deposition are analyzed, and the practical application of solar methane cracking hydrogen production system is outlined. The electric power sector is the primary contributor to carbon emissions in China. Considering the context of dual carbon goals, this paper examines carbon emissions within China's electricity sector. The research utilizes the LMDI approach for methodological rigor. The results show that the cumulative contribution of economies scale, power consumption factors and energy structure are 114.91%, 85.17% and 0.94%, which contribute to the increase of carbon emissions, the cumulative contribution of power generation efficiency and ratio of power dissipation to generation factor are -19.15% and -0.01%, which promotes the carbon reduction. The decomposition analysis highlights the significant influence of economic scale on carbon emissions in the electricity industry, among the seven factors investigated. Meanwhile, STIRPAT model, Logistic model and GM(1,1) model are used to predict carbon emissions, the average relative error between actual carbon emissions and the predicted values are 0.23%, 8.72% and 7.05%, which indicates that STIRPAT model is more suitable for medium- to long-term predictions. The behaviors of local governments can affect the enforcement of environmental regulations. Environmental regulation can influence the behaviour of energy-intensive enterprises. This paper examines the relationship between local government competition, environmental regulation and the investment efficiency of high energy consuming firms using a basic panel regression and moderating effects model based on data from 2011-2020 for high energy consuming firms in China. The paper found that local government competition and environmental regulation can promote increased investment efficiency in energy-intensive firms in the short term. However, environmental regulation is not beneficial to investment efficiency in the long run. Local government competition plays a positive moderating role in the impact of environmental regulation on the investment efficiency of high energy consuming firms. There is a threshold effect on the role of local government competition. When the level of government competition exceeds 2.097, it has a negative impact on the investment efficiency. We further test for heterogeneity and we find that this promotion effect is also more obvious in areas with high environmental taxes and low marketability. Effective forecasting of energy consumption structure is vital for China to reach its "dual carbon" objective. However, little attention has been paid to existing studies on the holistic nature and internal properties of energy consumption structure. Therefore, this paper incorporates the theory of compositional data into the study of energy consumption structure, which not only takes into account the specificity of the internal features of the structure, but also digs deeper into the relative information. Meanwhile, based on the minimization theory of squares of the Aitchison distance in the compositional data, a combined model based on the three single models, namely the metabolism grey model (MGM), back-propagation neural network (BPNN) model, and autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model, is structured in this paper. The forecast results of the energy consumption structure in 2023–2040 indicate that the future energy consumption structure of China will evolve towards a more diversified pattern, but the proportion of natural gas and non-fossil energy has yet to meet the policy goals set by the government. This paper not only suggests that compositional data from joint prediction models have a high applicability value in the energy sector, but also has some theoretical significance for adapting and improving the energy consumption structure in China. Given the increasing severity of energy shortages, the exploration of effective strategies to optimize energy structures has become imperative. This requires careful consideration of energy consumption patterns, especially since these data are fundamental inputs for policy formulation. Given the uncertainty in the rate of change in energy consumption, this paper proposes an optimized multivariable grey Bernoulli model that is rooted in the grey Bernoulli model and incorporates background values and genetic algorithms. The grey Bernoulli model effectively linearizes nonlinear problems, thus simplifying computational procedures. In addition, to account for random fluctuations of relevant factors that may affect the model's predictions, this model introduces nonlinear correction terms that allow simulation and prediction values to adhere to the grey index law. The incorporation of background values enhances the model's ability to process information, providing it with a superior grasp of real data. Genetic algorithms can be used to refine the model's parameters, increasing its adaptability and precision. Finally, this paper applies the refined model to examine China's energy consumption patterns, validating its efficacy and versatility. Furthermore, energy consumption patterns for the next four years are forecast, with the analysis revealing that the growth rate of energy consumption from 2021 to 2024 shows a downward trend, particularly notable in 2024, where the growth rate is 1.64%. Since the power generation structures and load characteristics in each province in China are quite different, the distribution of peak regulating resources and demands are extremely imbalance. Restricted by a low power marketization degree, peak regulating resource shortages, and transmission channel blocks, the efficient utilization of new energy is facing greater pressures. In order to improve the mutual aid in regional power grids and to obtain more precise simulation results, this paper proposes a two-layer optimization dispatching model, considering the mutual aid of peak regulation resources between each province. It determines the optimal startup mode and the units' power output in each province and obtains the power output arrangements for all the units and the technical and economic indicators. The model and the solution method are original and innovative. And it effectively solved the unequal distribution problem between the peak regulating demands and resources of each provincial power grid. Finally, taking an actual regional power grid in China as an example, the simulation results show that the proposed model can significantly improve the utilization rate of new energy, which verifies the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed model and methods presented in this paper. China, a country with a long-standing agricultural legacy, is increasingly prioritizing the reduction of CO2 emissions from its agricultural sector. Initially, the carbon emission sources within the agricultural sector are classified into two categories: direct and indirect emissions. Using this classification, the study calculates the generalized agricultural carbon emissions (GACEs) of 30 provinces in China between 2011 and 2020. To further understand the factors influencing GACEs, the paper employs the logarithmic mean Divisia index method and Tapio decoupling index to analyze seven key factors. These factors include carbon emission intensity, energy consumption of generalized agriculture, and economic benefit level of energy consumption. By comparing the impact and changes of GACEs during the 12th and 13th five-year plan periods, the study reveals valuable insights. The findings suggest that carbon emission intensity plays a crucial role in suppressing GACEs, while the level of economic development acts as a catalyst for their increase. By effectively managing these influencing factors, the paper proposes that the increase in GACEs can be effectively suppressed, and the achievement of agricultural CO2 reduction goals can be expedited. Knowledge of wind field characteristics and variation principles in complex topographical regions is of great importance for the development of numerical prediction models, aviation safety support, and wind energy utilization. However, there has been limited research focused on the lower-tropospheric wind fields in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. This paper aims to study the wind characteristics, vertical distributions, and temporal variations in the northeast of the plateau by analyzing a four-year continuous dataset collected from a Doppler wind LiDAR deployed in Xining, Qinghai Province of China. The results indicate that the prevailing horizontal wind direction in the low levels is primarily influenced by the mountain-valley wind circulation. However, as the altitude increases, the prevailing winds are predominantly affected by the westerlies. From a diurnal perspective, noticeable transition processes between up-valley and down-valley winds can be observed. The west-northwest wind (down-valley wind) dominates from late night to morning, while the east-southeast wind (up-valley wind) prevails from afternoon to early evening. The vertical winds in the low levels exhibit a downward motion during the daytime and an upward motion during the nighttime. To examine the long-run trend of China's energy efficiency, this paper employs a distribution dynamics approach to analyze the convergence of total-factor energy efficiency (TFEE) across 286 Chinese cities between 2002 and 2014. The result suggests the existence of convergence, which comes more from the efficiency declines in the high TFEE cities rather than the efficiency gains in the low TFEE cities. Despite the fact that a few cities have performed well in energy efficiency, the majority of cities have converged to a low-efficiency point. Further analyses show that the inefficiency was attributed to inefficient energy use in small- and medium-sized cities. The government's environmental protection policy can significantly contribute to alleviating resource shortages and curbing environmental pollution, but the impact of various policy instruments implemented by the government on energy efficiency is unclear. Based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2005 to 2021, this paper analyses the impact of environmental regulation and the industrial structure on energy efficiency from the perspective of resource taxes. The U-shaped relationship between environmental regulation and energy efficiency and between the optimization of industrial structure can significantly improve energy efficiency, and the optimization of industrial structure is conducive to weakening the initial inhibitory effect of environmental regulation. In addition, the analysis of regional heterogeneity showed that the impact of environmental regulation was stronger in the central and western regions, while the impact of industrial structure was stronger in the eastern and western regions. The conclusions of this study can help to expand the understanding of the relationship between environmental regulation and industrial structure on energy efficiency, provide policy enlightenment for the realization of green development and high-quality development, and provide Chinese examples and experiences for developing countries to improve energy efficiency. Ensuring optimal building performance is vital for enhancing student activity comfort and fostering energy-saving initiatives toward low-carbon objectives. This paper focuses on university student centers in China, aiming to diminish building energy consumption while enhancing indoor thermal comfort. Parametric modeling of typical cases is executed using the Grasshopper 1.0.0007 software package, and the simulation of building energy consumption and indoor thermal comfort relies on the Ladybug and Honeybee plug-in. Employing a multi-objective optimization design method and the Octopus multi-objective optimization algorithm, this study integrates numerical simulations and on-site surveys to analyze how factors like building form, orientation, envelope structure, and others impact the indoor and outdoor environment. A comprehensive optimization design approach is implemented for the building's exterior components, including the walls, windows, roof, and shading system. After conducting a comparative analysis of the annual comprehensive energy consumption and indoor thermal comfort before and after the optimization plan, it is determined that implementing these measures reduces the annual comprehensive energy consumption of the building under study by 58.8% and extends the duration of indoor thermal comfort by 53.0%. This study presents a practical optimization design methodology for university student center architecture in China, aiding architects in decision making and advocating for energy-efficient building designs. With large-scale grid-connected renewable energy, new power systems require more flexible and reliable energy storage power sources. Pumped storage stations play an important role in peak shaving, valley filling, and promoting renewable energy consumption. This paper presents the reasonable energy-abandonment operation of a combined power generation system (CPGS), in which a pumped storage station is the core control power, with an ultra-high proportion of renewable energy. Firstly, based on the seasonal characteristics of wind, solar, and load demand, typical days are selected through improved clustering analysis algorithms. Then, a daily optimal scheduling model for combined power generation systems (CPGS) is developed with the goals of economy, low-carbon, and stable operation. Finally, the correlation between the energy-abandonment rate and pumped storage station peak shaving and system optimization operation indicators is obtained by a reasonable energy-abandonment calculation method considering source-grid-load coordination. Taking the operation data of an energy base in the western region of China as an example, when the penetration rate of renewable energy is 60–70% in the future, the operating cost on the power side is greatly affected by the construction of the source side. The severe global warming issue currently threatens humans' existence and development. Countries and international organizations have effectively implemented policies to reduce carbon emissions and investigate low-carbon growth strategies. Reducing carbon emissions is a hot topic that academics and government policy-making departments are concerned about.Through necessary condition analysis (NCA) and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis(fsQCA), this paper investigates local governments' configuration linkage effect and path choice to improve carbon emission performance from six dimensions: energy consumption, industrial structure, technological innovation, government support, economic development, and demographic factors. The research findings include the following: (1) Individual condition does not represent necessary conditions for the government's carbon performance. Among the two sets of second-order equivalence configurations(S and Q) (five high-level carbon performance configurations), those dominated by economic development or low energy consumption can produce high-level carbon performance. Therefore, the six antecedent conditions dimensions work together to explain how the government can create high levels of carbon performance. (2)According to the regional comparison, China's eastern, central, and western regions exhibit similarities and differences in the driving forces behind high carbon emission performance. All three regions can demonstrate carbon emission performance when all the factors are combined. However, when constrained by the conditions of each region's resource endowment, the eastern region emphasizes the advantage of economic and technological innovation, the central region favors government support and demographic factors, and the western region prefers upgrading industrial structure based on a specific level of economic development. In order to evaluate the effect of market-oriented environmental management measures on regional carbon emission intensity in the pilot areas better, this paper adopts a quasinatural experiment of energy-use rights trading (EURT) policy by using the difference-in-difference method from the perspective of cities in China from 2006 to 2019. The results show that the policy of EURT can significantly reduce regional carbon emission intensity, which varies in different regions and different scales of cities. The main goal of implementing the policy is to reduce regional carbon emission intensity by improving the energy consumption structure and promoting the improvement of industrial structure and green innovation. In recent years, the escalating global concerns surrounding climate change have placed a growing emphasis on achieving dual objectives: reducing carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality. Businesses and organizations are under mounting pressure to align their operations with these crucial environmental goals. This paper introduces the concept of an enterprise carbon performance evaluation index system (ECPIS) to strike a balance between economic development and environmental protection and enhance overall enterprise management and development strategies. The ECPIS framework is constructed using machine learning and advanced data mining techniques, particularly support vector machines (SVM). Its core purpose is to provide enterprises with a systematic tool to gauge, analyze, and enhance their carbon performance, addressing dual carbon objectives. ECPIS development hinges on data mining techniques, extracting insights from diverse data sources to construct a comprehensive system that accommodates these dual carbon goals' intricacies. Its methodology includes data collection, preprocessing, feature selection, and data mining algorithms to unveil vital patterns and relationships within data. It conforms to international standards, establishing a tailored carbon performance index system aligned with China's national conditions. It validates carbon-related enterprise data and employs data mining's association rules to uncover pertinent carbon performance information. The results obtained from ECPIS are auspicious, boasting an experiential accuracy rate of 97.5%. This level of accuracy surpasses that achieved by other algorithms like K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Random Forest (RF), Decision Trees (DT), Naïve Bayes (NB), and Logistic Regression (LR). To identify the influence of digital transformation on energy consumption, this paper introduces digitalization and energy elements into the multi-sector energy efficiency analysis model. Furthermore, this paper empirically tests the influence of digital transformation on energy efficiency from the micro level. The results show that the digital transformation indeed improves the enterprises energy efficiency, in which enterprises with higher energy efficiency are more affected. The improvement effect of digital transformation on enterprise energy efficiency continues to increase over time. In comparison, digital transformation shows more effective improvement effect on energy efficiency in enterprises that substantive transformation priority, with same group and maturity stage. Mechanism analysis shows that digital transformation can improve the energy efficiency of enterprises by reducing costs, increasing income, improving production efficiency and promoting technological innovation. In addition, the digital inclusive finance, government subsidies, intellectual property protection and service industry opening show positive regulatory effects. Carbon emission flow is an effective tool to obtain carbon emission distribution in power systems, which can guide the active carbon reductions of consumers through proper incentive schemes. With the increasing penetration of renewable energy, the existing single-valued carbon emission flow model based on deterministic forecasted power outputs cannot describe the impacts of renewable energy uncertainties on carbon flows. Therefore, this paper mainly focuses on the assessment of the probabilistic carbon emission flow through the power systems considering the impacts of load and renewable energy uncertainties. In this paper, the probabilistic carbon emission flow (PCEF) is innovatively proposed. With the PCEF, consumers can make better energy use plans considering their own risk appetites for carbon emission payment. Firstly, the impact factors of the PCEF are modeled, including load and renewable energy uncertainties and integrated carbon intensity of thermal plants. The uncertainties of load, wind power and photovoltaics are modeled based on a p-box method while the uncertainty of hydropower is modeled based on the multi-state model. Besides, the integrated carbon intensity model of thermal plants are proposed considering the carbon intensity variations during the operating, start-up, and shut-down stages. Furthermore, the probabilistic carbon emission evaluation framework is proposed to assess the probabilistic carbon distribution. In this framework, novel probabilistic carbon indices are defined to precisely characterize the carbon emission situation with probabilistic representations. A solution method based on an adaptive interval point estimation (AIPEM) algorithm is proposed to efficiently solve the developed evaluation problem. Tests on an IEEE-30 node system, and a real provincial power system in China validate the effectiveness and application of the proposed model. It is well known that energy forecasts play an important role in guiding energy policy, economic development and technological progress. Therefore, based on the purpose of energy consumption and production forecasting, this paper proposes a novel structure adaptive discrete grey Bernoulli model, which is innovative in terms of both accumulated generating operator and model structure. In terms of accumulated generating operator, a new fractional order accumulated generating operator is proposed in this paper. The new accumulated generating operator has a different information priority by adjusting the values of the parameters. In terms of model structure, a novel discrete grey Bernoulli model is proposed in this paper. The novel model is well adapted to time series data containing nonlinear information, and can well mine and utilize the information contained in the original data. In addition, the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm was chosen to optimize the model parameters based on algorithm comparison experiments. This enables the model to flexibly adapt to a variety of complex data and has the ability of structure adaptive. Moreover, this paper conducts comparative experiments between the novel model and eight other forecasting algorithms for time series data. The numerical results show that the novel model has better forecasting performance for the data of China's total energy consumption, China's total electricity generation and China's total domestic electricity consumption. In addition, for the model reliability problem caused by the optimization algorithm, the stability and accuracy of the model are verified by Monte Carlo simulation and probability density visualization analysis. High carbon emissions and population aging are two obstacles to China's development as an emerging economy. It is urgent to scientifically examine the impacts of population aging on carbon emissions to discover new pathways for urban carbon emission reduction. However, existing studies face challenges in terms of focusing on and methodology for accurately capturing the role of industrial production and energy consumption in the environmental effects of population aging. This paper constructs a chain mediation analytical framework and systematically examines the intrinsic linkages between population aging and carbon emissions in Chinese cities from 2000 to 2020 using a two-way fixed effects model. This paper has three main findings. (1) The positive correlation between urban population aging and carbon emissions development is generally low, with coupling coordination degree values of 0.4233, 0.4458, 0.4220, 0.4715, and 0.4665 for each yearly cross-section. (2) For every 1% increase in the population aging rate, carbon emissions decrease by 0.3478% on average. The carbon reduction effect of population aging is significantly greater in low-emissions cities and high-income cities than in other cities. (3) The industrial upgrading (IU) path, energy conservation (EC) path and chain mediation (CM) path account for 72.43%, 7.23% and 20.34%, respectively, of the indirect effects. If the causal link between IU and EC is not considered, the EC effect will be overestimated by 281.16%. The results of the study suggest that properly coping with population aging and reducing carbon emissions are not completely opposed to each other, a conclusion that passes both endogeneity exclusion and robustness check. This paper advocates replacing the one-size-fits-all approach in carbon emissions management and investing more in policy preferences to support carbon emission reduction in both high-emissions and low-income cities. In the background of exhaustion of the traditional fossil energy sources and environmental deterioration, developing renewable energy has become a strategic choice for countries to achieve energy sustainable utilization and carbon neutrality target. Different renewable energy technical plans have different characteristics under multiple criteria. Therefore, before the further exploitation of renewable energy sources, it is of great significance to evaluate the comprehensive performance of different plans and then determine the best renewable energy sources. However, the commonly used weight calculation methods in the existing renewable energy evaluation have obvious shortcomings, such as the randomness of the subjective method is strong and the gap in the weight allocation of the objective method is too large, which affect the reliability and accuracy of the sorting result. In this paper, a novel weight calculation method based on non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) is proposed, and is applied to renewable energy evaluation. Firstly, for the linear normalized and Zeros normalized evaluation data, the differences between renewable energy plans in the two normalized evaluation data are measured, and the ranking deviations of the two normalized data are calculated. Then, the multi-objective weight solving model is constructed in terms of plans differences minimization and ranking vectors deviations minimization. The NSGA-II algorithm is applied to the optimization of multi-objective functions to find the Pareto non-dominated solution, so as to determine the weight values of each evaluation index. Finally, the TOPSIS method is used to determine the relative closeness value of each plan, and the rankings of renewable energy technical plans are achieved. Based on the actual renewable energy development data of a province in China, experiments were carried out to investigate the effectiveness of the proposed method. This paper presents an analysis of the water-energy-food nexus (WEFN) system, focusing on its interlinked structure and dynamic characteristics. This paper proposes a dynamic series-loop data envelopment analysis (DEA) model with a directional distance function for measuring WEFN efficiency in China. A spatial Durbin model is constructed to investigate the impact of extreme temperatures on WEFN efficiency. The results are as follows. (1) Compared with the black-box DEA model and series network DEA model, a series-loop network DEA model can reflect the "networking effect" and "looping effect" in the WEFN system. (2) The WEFN system performs well with an average series-loop efficiency of 0.875, but the efficiency of the water subsystem scores low and needs improvement. (3) At the national level, extremely high and low temperatures have no significant effect on the WEFN efficiency in local or adjacent provinces, whereas average temperature promotes the WEFN efficiency in local provinces but hinders it in neighboring provinces. In the regions with a low temperature difference, average temperature has no impact on the WEFN efficiency of both the province itself and its neighboring provinces. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the complex interlinkages within the WEFN system and highlights the importance of considering these relationships when improving the system efficiency. With the fragmentation of global production, the share of intermediate trade in international trade has increased significantly. Nevertheless, more research must be done on how intermediate trade factors influence energy consumption. This paper utilized the multi-regional input-output (MRIO) model to categorize China's energy utilization into six parts based on its position within the global production chain. Additionally, it examined the impact of intermediate factors on China's energy consumption through index decomposition analysis (IDA). The results revealed that: (1) from 2000 to 2014, intermediate factors led to an increase of 1380.96Mtces in China's energy consumption, accounting for around 37% of the national total; (2) the reduction in efficiency is the primary cause of the surge in domestic intermediate energy consumption, while the increase in market proportion is the dominant driver promoting international intermediate energy consumption growth; (3) the international intermediate proportion contributed the most among all intermediate factors. Drawing upon the findings above, this paper proposed policy recommendations to regulate China's rising energy consumption, precisely the escalation of intermediate process energy usage, focusing on the global production chain. The transformation of basic structure to high-class development in China's coastal places is a significant tool for promoting the changes related to quality, power and efficiency in regional economic development. Based on China's non-polluting energy growth process in the last ten years, this article explores China's clean/green energy policies and economic growth development plans. Clean energy utilization is crucial for sustainable development in the context of high-quality economic growth and climate change. However, the monetary evolution and carbon emission are not investigated whole from the clean energy aspects. Using Wind energy sources as the acceptable variable, this paper employs threshold regression and impulse functions to assess the energy consumption and economic growth on carbon emission in 30 Chinese provinces over the 2000 to 2020 period. The Deep Belief Network (DBN) model predicts wind energy utilization and efficiency. The results show that economic development and carbon emissions are connected. Further, growth influences promote the offset of carbon emissions. Green innovation alters the nexus of carbon emissions, and China's economy reduces carbon usage. • The distribution characteristics of CaS in the radial direction of the hearth were analyzed. • The formation mechanism and migration process of CaS in the hearth were analyzed. • The interface reaction between slag and coke is the main source of CaS formation in the furnace hearth. As the main occurrence form of sulfur element in blast furnace hearth, high content of CaS within the blast furnace hearth have a certain impact on low-carbon smelting of blast furnace. In this paper, the micro-morphology and distribution of CaS in the hearth area are studied by scanning electron microscopy and industrial CT, and the formation process of CaS in the deadman is clarified by drilling core samples of residual iron in the hearth of 3200 m3 blast furnace in China. The research results indicate that CaS in the hearth is mainly formed by slag-coke interface reaction and slag-iron interface reaction. Based on an analysis of the relative difficulty of these two pathways, it was observed that CaS is more readily generated through the slag-coke interface reaction. Based on the analysis of the difficulty of the two generation paths, it is found that CaS in the blast furnace hearth is more easily generated through slag coke interface reaction. The CaS particles generated in the hearth take the slag as the growth matrix, and with the flow of slag and iron and the renewal of the deadman coke, they are finally enriched and precipitated in the edge area of the deadman in the form of agglomerates. Based on the formation mechanism of CaS in the hearth, it is analyzed that the formation of CaS aggregates in the hearth is mainly affected by three factors: sulfur load, slag basicity and hearth temperature. Prefabricated buildings (PB) are assembled using prefabricated components, known for their cost-effectiveness and high efficiency. They are seen as an effective means to achieving sustainable development goals and mitigating climate change. This paper examines the impact of prefabricated buildings on urban green total factor energy efficiency (GTFEE) using panel data from 278 cities in China. The analysis is conducted through the application of a super-efficiency slack-based measure (SBM) model and a difference-in-differences model. The results of the study indicate that the promotion of PB can significantly improve urban GTFEE; there is heterogeneity in the improvement of urban GTFEE by PB; the innovation effect, industrial effect and marketization effect of PB are the main ways to improve urban GTFEE. Specifically, PB exerts an innovation effect by promoting technological innovation. It influences consumer and investor demand, leading to increased activity in the secondary industry, thereby creating an industrial effect. Moreover, PB facilitates the marketization effect by phasing out outdated industries, encouraging autonomous enterprise innovation, and fostering the growth of new advanced enterprises. Government auditing plays a crucial role in enhancing energy efficiency and advancing green and low-carbon economic development. Given that audit oversight's quality and efficiency are influenced by the independence of auditing institutions, this study utilizes the vertical management reform of government auditing institutions as an exogenous shock, and empirically examines its impact on urban energy efficiency (UEE) using a Difference-in-Differences model (DID). We find that the audit reform improved UEE by 0.023 which is both economically and statistically significant. Concurrently, the audit reform and the development of the digital economy play substitutive roles in enhancing UEE. Industrial steam heating is a significant aspect of energy consumption in China, playing a crucial role in industrial energy efficiency. Historically, demand response research has predominantly focused on the electricity sector, with limited emphasis on steam supply. This study explores a novel Time-of-Use pricing approach for steam heating systems, anchored in the demand response theory of price incentives. It develops a peak-valley segmentation method by considering both the load differences between supply and demand and the thermal storage capacity of the pipeline system. Additionally, the paper delves into user response characteristics to formulate an optimized Time-of-Use pricing model for steam heating systems. Implemented in a Jiangsu-based case study, the model demonstrates significant efficiency improvements: it reduces the peak-valley load difference by up to 68.3% and cuts steam purchasing costs by ¥135,000. With the growing share of the climate-sensitive renewable energy market supply in China, estimating future energy drought risk (ED) is essential. In this paper, based on CMIP6, energy demand and power generation are estimated from 2023 to 2100 under SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5 climate scenarios, and ED is defined from high demand (HD), low wind-solar generation (LWS), and residual load (RL). The results show that the ED exacerbation is relatively high under the SSP5-8.5. Between 2023 and 2100, the duration and severity of HD and RL notably increase, while LWS changes are relatively weak. We find that HD and RL exhibit high summer risks in the south and high winter risk in the north. The return periods vary significantly and extends over time in most regions. Moreover, there are few ED when the installed power generation capacity (IPGC) is increased. When the IPGC increases by 2%–5%, the LWS will decrease at least 20%–72%. With a 10% increase, the LWS will be mitigated by at least 80%, whereas the mitigation for RL is limited, approximately 3–17% at different rates. Based on 196 prefecture-level cities in China from 2006 to 2021, this paper constructs a weight matrix of urban economic geography and uses the spatial differential model to verify the impact of smart city policies on urban green energy efficiency. The results show that the efficiency value of green energy fluctuates in Chinese cities. Different test results show that smart city policies can effectively improve urban green energy efficiency, but mainly from the time effect rather than the individual effect. It means the improvement in urban green energy efficiency comes more from the fast-growing of the Chinese economy and urban construction in this period than from the country's smart city pilot policy. In addition, from the spatial spillover effect result, China needs to design a better urban spatial development plan to improve the capacity of smart city energy services and vigorously develop intelligent technology represented by information and communication science. This paper constructs a two-stage undesirable and desirable congestion model, which distinguishes purely technical inefficiency from congestion, to study the energy congestion of 30 transportation sectors in China from 2011 to 2020. The Heckman model is used to analyze the influence mechanism of various factors on the undesirable congestion of energy, which avoids sample selection bias. The results show that: (1) The undesirable congestion of energy mainly exists in the transport sector of the western region, while the desirable congestion of energy only exists in the transport sectors of the eastern and central regions. (2) Purely technical inefficiency in the transportation sector does not usually occur in isolation. [Display omitted] Particulate matter (PM) is an important air pollutant in subway systems. Exposure to high PM concentrations poses a threat to human health and raises concerns. Piston effect can provide the outdoor fresh air to subway stations through station exits, but it also brings PM from tunnels to platforms when the train enters the station. In this paper, a transient numerical model is developed according to an actual subway station and validated by field tests. The model is used to investigate PM 10 concentration at platform induced by train movement. The cumulative PM 10 concentration at platform in one day is calculated according to the train schedule. Platform screen door (PSD) with adjustable vents is studied to control the PM 10 level at platform and energy saving in 27 cities of five climatic zones in China are discussed. The results show that adjustable vent height should be less than 0.70 m to ensure that PM 10 concentrations at platform can be maintained at an acceptable level and the requirement of fresh air can be met. Moreover, energy consumption can be reduced by more than 70 % in different cities compared with the conventional mechanical ventilation system. The optimized adjustable vent can provide an important reference for improving indoor air quality (IAQ) and saving energy consumption of ventilation systems in underground facilities. At present, the energy and environmental crisis is increasingly prominent, and how to solve the global energy and environmental problems is one of the challenges facing the world today. China is a major producer and consumer of organosilicon, so it is necessary to explore the stage of high energy consumption and high pollution in the organosilicon industrial chain. In 2022, the proportion of submerged arc furnaces of 25000 kVA and higher in China reached 40%. Further expansion of these furnaces in the future is inevitable. However, research on the life cycle assessment of organosilicon manufactured using large-capacity submerged arc furnaces is still blank.Therefore,in this paper, the life cycle assessment method is used to evaluate the synthesis process of chemical grade silicon-organosilicon monomer prepared by large capacity (33000 kVA) submerged arc furnace, and the dominant process in various environmental impacts is defined.At the same time, the measures to improve the production process of organosilicon monomer were put forward. In the production process of 1000 kg organosilicon monomer, global warming potential (GWP) contributed the most (73.43%) to the comprehensive environmental impact, followed by chronic public health impact (HTI, 10.55%). Energy consumption (EN) accounted for 8.50%, while resource consumption (RU) accounted for 7.43%. The contributions of other environmental factors were relatively small (0.09%).The energy consumption and environmental pollution in the production of organosilicon monomer can be reduced by strictly controlling the quality of raw materials into the furnace, using heat pump technology in the distillation unit, and comprehensively utilizing the heat of reaction by-products and steam condensate. As the path of industrial eco-efficiency (IEE) needs to be re-examined from a multi-dimensional perspective, this research opens the internal "black box" of China's industrial eco-economic system driven by sustainable development goals (SDGs) and decomposes IEE into industrial production and sustainable development stages. It further divides the industrial production stage into two parallel subsystems of water use efficiency (WUE) and energy efficiency (EE) and derives SDG6 efficiency (SDG 6 E) and SDG7 efficiency (SDG 7 E) in the sustainable development stage respectively. The paper proposes a meta two-stage parallel entropy dynamic DDF-DEA model to re-measure IEE of 30 provinces in China from 2015 to 2021, discusses the relationship between overall efficiency and stage efficiency, and by using the Tobit model explores various types of influencing factors by subregion. The results show that the modified DDF-DEA model can explore China's IEE more accurately under SDGs. China's IEE is more stable from 2015 to 2021, with the efficiency value always fluctuating between 0.59 and 0.64, the overall level is low, and there is more room for improvement. There are significant inter-provincial differences in IEE and efficiency inertia. In more than 75% of the provinces SDG 7 E constrains IEE improvement, while the dynamic evolution of IEE and its subsystem efficiency varies across regions. Environmental regulation is a common factor affecting IEE across the country and in the east, central, and west regions, whereas the level of economic development, openness to the outside world, and urbanization rate are differential factors affecting IEE across the country and in the three major regions. Energy use between urban and rural areas is very important in the context of the global energy transition and climate change. However, it is difficult to measure the differences and inequalities in energy consumption due to data limitations. In this paper, a dataset distinguishing urban-rural energy consumption has been generated. We construct an energy inequality index (EI) to assess the difference in per capita energy consumption (PEC) between urban and rural areas. We find that the EI has decreased significantly from 10.42 in 2000 to 1.43 in 2020. Western China has a higher EI than the developed coastal areas. We further define 7 urban-rural types and find that the urban center has the highest PEC, while the rural cluster has the lowest. Cluster analysis shows that prefectures have different equalization trends, namely volatile decline, rapid decline, increase before decline, incremental decline. The urban-rural structure plays an important role in the different trends, and 4 modes of urban-rural energy consumption are summarized, namely urban-centered, urban-suburban double-centered, multi-centered and rural-biased. With the comprehensive progression of China's electric power reform, the participation of hydropower in the spot market has become inevitable. For hydropower-dominated power grids, the tight hydraulic and electric coupling relationship between cascade hydropower plants and the policy requirement of clean energy consumption greatly increase the challenge of optimal scheduling. Based on the market characteristics and actual demand of the hydropower-dominated power grids, this paper discusses the day-ahead spot market trading mechanism to promote the guaranteed consumption of renewable energy. On this basis, a day-ahead optimal scheduling model is established which aims to minimize the comprehensive power purchase cost of the power system. The nonlinear factors in the scheduling model, such as the relationship between the water level and storage capacity of hydropower plants, the relationship between the water level and water consumption rate, and the constraints on the start-up and shutdown durations of thermal power units, are linearized through multiple linearization techniques. The original nonlinear model is transformed into a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model and is then solved using a CPLEX solver. The developed model is verified by taking 10 thermal power plants and 22 hydropower plants in Yunnan Power Grid as a case study. The calculation time is 183.6s, the comprehensive power purchase cost of the system is 155.35·million CNY, and no abandoned water is generated in the three basins. The simulation results show that the proposed model has high solution accuracy and efficiency, and maximizes the hydropower consumption under the premise of meeting the minimum comprehensive power purchase cost. The findings of this study can provide a scientific basis for the development of the day-ahead spot market of hydropower-dominated power grids. As digital economy develops, its impact on green innovation and energy efficiency has become the focus of current research. To explore the impact of the current development of the digital economy on the energy industry, this paper selects the parameter of green innovation resilience, analyzes the impact mechanism of green innovation resilience on energy efficiency under the shock of digital economic development, and uses relevant data from 284 cities in China from 2011 to 2019 for empirical testing. It is found that: green innovation resilience promotes energy efficiency; low level of green innovation resilience inhibits the improvement of energy efficiency, while high level of resilience promotes energy efficiency; the initial stage of digital economic development generates resource grabbing and the effect of technological constraints, which weakens the role of green innovation resilience in promoting energy efficiency. Energy quota trading is critical to both energy conservation and the achievement of dual-carbon goals. However, little remains to be done on total factor productivity and economic potential for Chinese industry. The purpose of this paper is to counterfactually model and explore the effects of energy quota trading on total factor productivity and economic potential in industrial sector. We propose a command-controlled DEA model and an energy quota trading DEA model through non-parametric linear programming based on two policy strategies of energy consumption control. We then assess total factor productivity and its growth sources for 35 two-digit industrial sector in China, as well as examine economic potential and optimal path forecasts for carbon peaking. The results show that total factor productivity and economic potential for energy quota trading are higher than those for command-controlled energy policy. Energy-saving effect can be achieved for energy quota trading because the total energy input is lower. Additionally, the sources of productivity growth differ in timing. The average economic potential and total factor productivity of different industries differ due to the heterogeneity of the production conditions and scale of development of individual market players. Moreover, the catch-up emission reduction path with an increase of 8% in output and 4.76% in energy consumption is the optimal carbon peaking path under energy quota trading. With the facilitation of agricultural modernization, China's agricultural energy consumption continues to rise. This paper empirically tests the agricultural energy rebound effect and its influencing factors in China during 1999–2020. It is believed that the improvement of energy efficiency has not led to the expected energy-saving effect in agriculture due to the "Jevons paradox" of energy efficiency and energy consumption. The average energy efficiency of China's agricultural energy consumption was 0.446, and the average energy rebound effect was 68.9 %. The level of agricultural mechanization, the effective irrigated area of farmland and agricultural investment have a positive impact on the rebound effect of agricultural energy, and the direct effects are 0.062, 0.008 and 0.064, respectively, while agricultural labor force and energy price have a negative impact on the rebound effect of agricultural energy. In particular, technology spillover and scale spillover led by agricultural technology progress have strong negative space spillover effect. As it is argued, 1 % of agricultural technology progress can reduce 3.5 % of agricultural energy rebound effect in surrounding areas. With the completion of the poverty alleviation task in China, the Chinese economy has made great breakthroughs. Meanwhile, the implementation of Chinese "dual carbon" goal has entered an important window period of both strategic opportunities and difficulties. With coal, gasoline, petroleum, fuel oil, diesel, crude oil and natural gas as inputs, the per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as the desired output and the CO2 as the undesired output, after linear weighted calculation of the results of the AHP-SP model and the SBMDEA model, the energy efficiency evaluation model of different provincial administrative regions in China is established. The results show that there is a large difference in efficiency between Chinese northern and southern regions, and the overall efficiency of southern regions is higher than that of northern regions. In addition, it is easier to find out the optimal energy efficiency benchmark, which can provide suggestions and help to guide the energy consumption input structure improvement of other inefficient provincial-level administrative regions. Furthermore, the energy structure can also be adjusted through the redundant variable calculated by the SBMDEA model. For example, Sichuan Province can reduce the consumption of the coal, the gasoline, the diesel, the fuel oil, the crude oil and the natural gas by 5269.95 × 10000 tons (WT), 513.01 WT, 59.05 WT, 34.37 WT, 4,73.33 WT and 130.37 billion cubic meters (BCM), respectively. In this era of global warming the importance of climate risk cannot be understated, and finding ways to reduce climate risk is a topic worthy of study. In this paper, we innovatively examine the role of renewable energy technology innovation on climate risk in China. In addition to their linear relationship, we also investigate the asymmetric and heterogeneous impact, detect the impact channels, and find that (1) increased renewable energy technology innovation can effectively alleviate the climate risk situation. Accordingly, the development of renewable energy technology innovation can make a significant contribution to CR abatement. (2) Pronounced impacts of renewable energy technology innovation on climate risk can be observed in the higher quantiles (75th and 90th) of climate risk. (3) Renewable energy technology innovation is a powerful weapon for eradicating climate risk in provinces with a higher level of government fiscal expenditure. And (4) renewable energy technology innovation has an impact on climate risk by facilitating energy consumption efficiency, which is a necessary mediator. To achieve the goal of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality", China is vigorously developing renewable energy. This paper aims to examine the major contributors to regional inequality in renewable energy consumption by analyzing the 30 provinces in China. We have analyzed the inequality of China's renewable energy consumption with Dagum Gini coefficient, and then use the Generalized Divisia Index Model (GDIM) to decompose the influencing factors contributing to the inequality of renewable energy consumption. The main conclusions are summarized as follows: First, renewable energy consumption was higher in the western region than in the central and eastern regions, and the regional inequality in renewable energy consumption have increased over time. Second, the study reveals that inter-group disparity is the primary source of regional inequality in renewable energy consumption in China. Third, at the national level, the results of the GDIM decomposition show that economic development continues to rely on fossil energy consumption, which negatively impacts the low-carbon transition of energy. Given China's complex geographical conditions, it is crucial for different provinces to develop their own strategies for renewable energy development, taking into account unique resources and challenges. Battery electric industrial vehicles (BEIVs) offer significant environmental protection and decarbonization potential for rapidly growing logistics and transportation sectors in China. However, the limited driving range remains a major obstacle to the widespread adoption of BEIVs. Eco-driving is an effective solution that can improve energy efficiency and extend the driving range of vehicles by controlling driving behavior and speed. Therefore, this paper introduces an energy efficient speed planning method for BEIVs, in which data-driven models are developed to estimate energy consumption. Real-world driving data collected from a BEIV are used to model the energy consumption by curve fitting, random forest, and LSTM. The speed planning process is considered a Markov Decision Process, which is solved using Dynamic Programming and Q-learning, respectively. • Fatigue effect of the PHF is dependent on the time scale of pulsating loading. • Coal porosity increases with the increased pulsating pressure based on the LF-NMR. • A larger pulsating pressure leads to a lower cracking pressure. • The PHF creates more cracks and higher porosity than the HF according to CT images. Coalbed methane recovery can largely ease the crisis of annually increasing energy consumption of China. Low permeability and porosity of deep coal reservoirs mainly cause the low gas production rate. Pulsating hydraulic fracturing (PHF) is an alternative tool to improve the reservoir permeability and stimulate the gas productivity. However, little has been done to directly observe the fatigue damage in coal created by the pulsating loading. Because the fatigue damage is primarily governed by the time-length of PHF period. Therefore, the effect of long period pulsating loading of PHF on coal damage has been investigated in this work. Results show that long-period pulsating loading of PHF can cause significant damage in coal. The low-field NMR data indicates coal porosity increases with the increase of maximum pulsating pressure. Pulsating pressure also plays an important role in the cracking pressure. A larger pulsating pressure leads to a lower cracking pressure. Comparison of PHF and HF damaged coal investigated by the X-ray CT indicates the PHF creates more fractures and higher porosity than conventional hydraulic fracturing. The increase ratios of the coal porosity by HF and PHF are 40 %–60 % and 80 %–100 %, respectively. This paper provides a better understanding the mechanism of the coal damage by the PHF under long-period pulsating loading which is of great importance for optimizing PHF technique and generating connected fracture networks. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) play a pivotal role in natural water recycling and safeguarding the water security of approximately 42% of the world's population, yet they confront challenges posed by escalating energy consumption and regional energy constraints. In this study, we developed an evaluation framework that integrated regional energy scarcity with the operation conditions of WWTPs to quantify their energy efficiencies by applying multiregional input–output (MRIO) analysis and data envelopment analysis (DEA). A case study using this framework was conducted on 3776 WWTPs in 30 provinces in China. The results showed that the average scarcity-based energy efficiency level of WWTPs in China was low, of which those in northern provinces were higher compared to southeastern provinces. Furthermore, only 24 WWTPs in China attained the highest efficiency levels, while the rest had different degrees of input redundancy, indicating an energy-saving potential of 9.05 × 109 kWh. Over the past decades, China's vast regional disparities in resource endowment, economic development, and industrial structure have driven large-scale relocations of high energy-consuming industries (RHEIs). Despite extensive research on broad-based industrial relocation and emission transfer, the trend, structure and environmental impact of China's RHEIs need further investigation. This paper employs the multi-regional input-output model (MRIO) to calculate the trend, scale, and structure of the RHEIs among China's 30 provinces. Additionally, we investigate the RHEIs' effect on green total factor energy efficiency (GEE) and its heterogeneity. Our results indicate that the net inflow of high energy-consuming industries decreases GEE, with a more noticeable effect observed in central provinces and after the execution of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). However, the positive effect of RHEIs on GEE in outflow areas is more substantial than their negative impact in inflow areas, suggesting that RHEIs can enhance overall efficiency. Renewable energy (RE) plays a crucial role in global energy transformation, and a thorough study of the potential impact of RE on regional carbon emissions is of great significance. This is particularly relevant to China, which needs to clarify its path to carbon reduction. Using the sample data of 30 provinces in China from 2000 to 2021, this paper uses the Granger causality test to verify the causal relationship between carbon emission intensity (CEI) and other factors. It builds a mediation effect model on this basis to explore the direct impact effect and indirect transmission path of renewable energy utilization (REU) on CEI. The results show that REU has a one-way causal relationship with CEI. REU can directly and indirectly reduce CEI by improving social wealth and changing the direction of energy investment. In addition, REU indirectly increases CEI through the transmission paths of investment in the energy industry - social affluence and industrial level-social affluence. The CEI is indirectly reduced through the conduction paths of (social affluence-Urbanization rate), (Investment in the energy industry-Urbanization rate), (Industrial level-Urbanization rate), and (Industrial level-Investment in the energy industry). These conclusions will assist policymakers in exploring targeted pathways for low-carbon power development, providing a reference for strategic and sustainable carbon reduction policies. This paper chooses 98 mining cities in China from 2007 to 2021 as research samples. It investigates the policy practice of green development in mining cities according to the point of view of policy combination. We establish a super-efficiency model considering undesirable output to measure the green development level of mining cities and further construct a dynamic panel model based on the Gaussian mixture model (GMM) to test the transmission mechanism and heterogeneous effect of different types of environmental regulation to promote the green development of mining cities. The findings demonstrate that environmental regulations about command control, market incentives, and public participation can all help mining cities develop more sustainably. Additionally, there is a nonlinear relationship of an inverted "U" shape between the degree of green development in mining cities and environmental regulations related to command control. Combining policies can encourage the green development of mining cities, but there are crowding-out and substitution effects when environmental regulations are combined with market forces. Environmental regulation promotes urban green development by improving the energy consumption structure of mining cities. In this process, the level of digital development positively regulates the impact of environmental regulation on urban green development. • Carbon emissions from energy consumption of 282 prefecture-level cities in China were calculated. • A new method for calculating carbon emission factors for electricity is proposed. • Extending the Atkinson Index to the application of Carbon Fairness. • Measured the inequality and fairness indicators of carbon emissions from energy consumption at the prefecture-level city level in China. This paper focuses on the conceptualization and quantification of carbon emission inequality and fairness from energy consumption. In order to more accurately measure the carbon emissions generated by electricity consumption in each city, we firstly propose a new method for calculating the carbon emission factor for electricity, and calculates the carbon emissions from energy consumption in 282 prefecture-level cities in China from 2003 to 2019. Through the application of the Theil-Kaya decomposition mechanism and the improved Atkinson index, we conducted an in-depth study of the carbon emission inequality and fairness indicators from energy consumption. The results show that (1) Although China's overall inequality has declined, it remains significant in the western region, with its inequality indicator fluctuating from 0.548 in 2003 to 0.683 in 2019.(2) The decomposition of the drivers of inequality indicators shows that the contribution of GDP per capita to inequality is increasingly being replaced by energy intensity and the energy carbon emission factor, with energy intensity emerging as the main driver, contributing more than 40% to inequality in 2019, both overall and in the three regions.(3) The results for the fairness indicator, on the other hand, show a certain degree of divergence. Further Dynamic Time Warping fitting analysis shows that regardless of how the public's sensitivity to carbon emissions varies, the change trends of the fairness and inequality indicators for carbon emissions in the eastern region show a high degree of convergence, even in the two most extreme cases. The fit is poorest in the western region, but improves significantly if public's sensitivity to carbon emissions increases.
