To explore the effect of music therapy on children with leukemia who have peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC). In this study, we divided 107 patients undergoing PICC into music group (47 cases) and control group (60 cases). The music group received music therapy during PICC, while the control group was given no complementary treatment. The total length of catheterization, the use of sedatives and the changes of pain level and emotion level before and after PICC placement were compared between two groups. Compared with the control group, the total PICC placement time of the music group was significantly shorter (35(30–40) vs. 60(60–60); Z = −8.307; p < 0.001), and the use of sedative medications was also significantly reduced (4.35% (n = 2) vs. 91.84% (n = 45); p < 0.001). Moreover, the pain of catheterization was significantly alleviated. The median difference of pain scores of the music group was significantly less (2(1–3) vs. 5(5–5); p < 0.001). The mood of patients was also improved. The median difference of emotional scores of the music group was significantly more (5(4.75–6) vs. 3(3–3); p < 0.001) than the control group. Music therapy is effective to use in PICC. It can shorten the treatment time, reduce the use of sedative medications, and improve the children's emotion and pain response significantly, which is worth clinical application. Background: Beneficial effects of greenness on birth outcomes have been reported, but few studies have investigated the associations in both urban and non-urban settings. We aimed to evaluate and compare linear and nonlinear associations between greenness and birth outcomes in urban and non-urban settings.Methods: From October 2015 to December 2018, participants were recruited into the Maoming Birth Cohort Study. A total of 11 258 live birth records were obtained. Greenness exposure was assessed using the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and enhanced vegetation index (EVI). Linear regression and nonlinear restricted cubic spline models were implemented to investigate the associations between greenness and birthweight, birth length, gestational age, preterm birth, low birthweight, small for gestational age and the potential for effect variation under urban or non-urban settings, after adjusting for covariates.Results: A 0.1-unit increase in NDVI-500m was significantly associated with an increase of 35.4 g in birthweight [95% confidence interval (CI): 13.2, 57.7], 0.15 cm in birth length (95% CI: 0.03, 0.26), 0.88 days in gestational age (95% CI: 0.05, 1.71) and lower odds of low birthweight [odds ratio (OR) = 0.69, 95% CI: 0.56, 0.85] and preterm birth (OR = 0.70, 95% CI: 0.58, 0.85). No association with head circumference was observed. For all outcomes, no significant linear associations were observed among non-urban dwellers. Inversed 'U-shaped' associations between greenness exposure and birth outcomes were observed in the total study population.Conclusions: Greenness exposure was associated with increased gestational age, birthweight and birth length in urban dwellers. Nonlinear associations assessed by restricted cubic splines suggested that health benefits could be larger when increasing greenness levels from low to medium compared with increasing greenness from medium to high levels. Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is one of many common neurodegenerative diseases without ideal treatment, but early detection and intervention can prevent the disease progression.Objective: This study aimed to identify AD-related glycolysis gene for AD diagnosis and further investigation by integrated bioinformatics analysis.Methods: 122 subjects were recruited from the affiliated hospitals of Ningbo University between 1 October 2015 and 31 December 2016. Their clinical information and methylation levels of 8 glycolysis genes were assessed. Machine learning algorithms were used to establish an AD prediction model. Receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to assess the model. An AD risk factor model was developed by SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) to extract features that had important impacts on AD. Finally, gene expression of AD-related glycolysis genes were validated by AlzData.Results: An AD prediction model was developed using random forest algorithm with the best average ROC_AUC (0.969544). The threshold probability of the model was positive in the range of 0∼0.9875 by DCA. Eight glycolysis genes (GAPDHS, PKLR, PFKFB3, LDHC, DLD, ALDOC, LDHB, HK3) were identified by SHAP. Five of these genes (PFKFB3, DLD, ALDOC, LDHB, LDHC) have significant differences in gene expression between AD and control groups by Alzdata, while three of the genes (HK3, ALDOC, PKLR) are related to the pathogenesis of AD. GAPDHS is involved in the regulatory network of AD risk genes.Conclusion: We identified 8 AD-related glycolysis genes (GAPDHS, PFKFB3, LDHC, HK3, ALDOC, LDHB, PKLR, DLD) as promising candidate biomarkers for early diagnosis of AD by integrated bioinformatics analysis. Background: The microbiota–gut–brain axis, especially the microbial tryptophan (Trp) biosynthesis and metabolism pathway (MiTBamp), may play a critical role in the pathogenesis of major depressive disorder (MDD). However, studies on the MiTBamp in MDD are lacking. The aim of the present study was to analyze the gut microbiota composition and the MiTBamp in MDD patients. Methods: We performed shotgun metagenomic sequencing of stool samples from 26 MDD patients and 29 healthy controls (HCs). In addition to the microbiota community and the MiTBamp analyses, we also built a classification based on the Random Forests (RF) and Boruta algorithm to identify the gut microbiota as biomarkers for MDD. Results: The Bacteroidetes abundance was strongly reduced whereas that of Actinobacteria was significantly increased in the MDD patients compared with the abundance in the HCs. Most noteworthy, the MDD patients had increased levels of Bifidobacterium, which is commonly used as a probiotic. Four Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) orthologies (KOs) (K01817, K11358, K01626, K01667) abundances in the MiTBamp were significantly lower in the MDD group. Furthermore, we found a negative correlation between the K01626 abundance and the HAMD scores in the MDD group. Finally, RF classification at the genus level can achieve an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.890. Conclusions: The present findings enabled a better understanding of the changes in gut microbiota and the related Trp pathway in MDD. Objective To analyze the effect of preoperative nursing intervention on the degree of cooperation in day surgery patients. Methods The clinical data of 56 patients undergoing day surgery in Zhongshan People's Hospital from January 2019 to January 2020 were selected as the object of this study. According to the order of admission, the patients were divided into two groups. The control group had 28 cases and received routine nursing care. The observation group had 28 cases and had strengthened preoperative nursing intervention. The impact on the patient's surgical cooperation was analyzed. Results After the intervention, the pulse rate and blood pressure of patients undergoing day surgery decreased, which was lower in the observation group, and the diference between the two groups were statistically significant (both P <0.05). The S-AI score of day surgery patients decreased, and the observation group was lower. The diference between the two groups were statistically significant (both P <0.05). The surgical cooperation score of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, and the diference between the two groups were statistically significant (both P <0.05). Anonymous data collection systems are often necessary when assessing sensitive behaviors but can pose challenges to researchers seeking to link participants over time. To assist researchers in anonymously linking participants, we outlined and tested a novel security question linking (security question linking; SEEK) method. The SEEK method includes four steps: (1) data management and standardization, (2) many-to-many matching, (3) fuzzy matching, and (4) rematching and verification. The method is demonstrated in SAS with two samples from a longitudinal study of adolescent dating violence. After an initial assessment during a laboratory visit, participants were asked to complete an online assessment either (a) once, 3 months later (Sample 1, n = 60), or (b) three times at 1-month intervals (Sample 2, n = 140). Demographics, eye color, and responses to nine security questions were used as key variables to link responses from the laboratory and online follow-up assessments. The rates of matched cases were 100% in Sample 1 and from 94.3 to 98.3% in Sample 2. To quantify the confidence in the data quality of successfully matched pairs, we reported the means and standard deviations of the number of matched security questions. In addition, we reported the rank order and counts of the mismatched components in key variables. Results indicate that the SEEK method provides a feasible and reliable solution to link responses in longitudinal studies with sensitive questions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cuscutae Semen mainly includes salt-processed product (SPP) and wine-processed product (WPP), which are most commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine. However, the differences between SPP and WPP have not been reported. In this paper, comparative studies between SPP and WPP on chemical contents and effect in kidney-yang deficiency rats have been investigated. UPLC-MS/MS was used to study the differences in chemical components. Kidney-yang deficiency was induced by hydrocortisone in rats. Rats were orally administrated with different doses of Jinkui Shenqi Pills, SPP, and WPP for 28 days. The average organ coefficients, renal function indexes, sex hormone levels, and testicular morphology were detected. As a result, the contents of flavonoids and chlorogenic acids were higher in SPP than in WPP, which may be caused by different processing methods. The improvement on reproduction of SPP was reflected in organ coefficients, renal function indexes, and biochemical properties of seminal plasma; furthermore, WPP was in sex hormone levels and morphology of testis. As a conclusion, these results indicated that both SPP and WPP can improve the reproductive function of kidney-yang deficiency rats with different mechanisms, which may be due to the differences in chemical contents between WPP and SPP as well as different processing methods. Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is one of the chief diabetes mellitus complications. Inflammation factors may be one reason for the damage from DM. The purpose of this research is to study the potential protective effects of puerarin on DM and the possible mechanisms of action related to NF-κB signal pathway. Following administration of puerarin to the disease model rat, several changes were observed including the changes of serum biochemical index, improved diastolic dysfunction, and enhanced endogenous antioxidant enzymes activities, further NF-κB signaling activation. Objectives: To derive a more precise comparison of flow-mediated dilatation (FMD%) of the brachial artery between patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and normal controls by performing a meta-analysis of appropriate studies.Methods: PubMed and EMBASE databases were searched for all relevant articles. STATA (V.12.0) software was used to perform the meta-analysis. Quality estimation of all appropriate studies was evaluated according to the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS). Standardised mean difference (SMD) with 95% CIs were calculated with a random-effects model. The Cochrane Q test and I2 statistic were used to evaluate the heterogeneity. Funnel plot and Egger's test were conducted to assess the publication bias.Results: In total, 464 articles were obtained after searching the two databases. Ten studies were included in the meta-analysis on the basis of the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Significant heterogeneity was observed among these 10 studies (Q=102.89, p<0.001, I2=91.3%) with random-effects modelling. The results showed that the RA group had significantly lower FMD% (SMD: -1.405; 95% CI -1.992 to -0.817; p<0.001) than the control group. Egger's test (p=0.004) indicated that the funnel plot showed a skewed or asymmetrical shape and publication bias existed. Sensitivity analyses suggested the robustness and credibility of our results.Conclusions: FMD% in patients with RA is significantly decreased compared with healthy controls. Objectives: We evaluate the efficacy of concomitant therapy for Helicobacter pylori infection and the associated factors that influence it in China, where it has not previously been investigated.Methods: In this prospective study, 374 consecutive patients with H. pylori infection were randomly assigned to 10 day regimens of concomitant therapy with different proton pump inhibitors: esomeprazole (20 mg)/omeprazole (20 mg), amoxicillin (1000 mg), clarithromycin (500 mg) and metronidazole (400 mg). All drugs were administered twice daily. A [(13)C]urea breath test was performed at least 4 weeks after the completion of treatment. Gene polymorphisms and antimicrobial susceptibility were determined.Results: A total of 374 patients with active, uncomplicated duodenal ulcer disease were enrolled in the study (187 cases in each group). The overall eradication rate resulting from concomitant therapy was 90.7% (PP) and 86.1% (ITT) and the eradication rate was significantly higher in the group that received an esomeprazole-based regimen compared with the group that received an omeprazole-based regimen [95.4% versus 86.0%, respectively, P = 0.003 (PP) and 89.8% versus 82.4%, P = 0.036 (ITT), respectively]. Moreover, the omeprazole-based regimen was an independent risk factor for treatment failure (P = 0.039), as were CYP2C19 extensive metabolizer (P = 0.005), clarithromycin (P = 0.000) and metronidazole resistance (P = 0.000). In addition, CYP2C19 polymorphisms and antibiotic resistance had a synergistic effect on eradication rates. The majority of side effects were mild and none was serious.Conclusions: The 10 day concomitant therapy yielded an eradication rate of nearly 90%. Background: Autologous blood transfusion (ABT) drainage system is a new unwashed salvaged blood retransfusion system for total knee replacement (TKA). However, whether to use ABT drainage, closed-suction (CS) drainage or no drainage in TKA surgery remains controversial. This is the first meta-analysis to assess the clinical efficiency, safety and potential advantages regarding the use of ABT drains compared with closed-suction/no drainage.Methods: PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library were comprehensively searched in March 2015. Fifteen randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were identified and pooled for statistical analysis. The primary outcome evaluated was homologous blood transfusion rate. The secondary outcomes were post-operative haemoglobin on days 3-5, length of hospital stay and wound infections after TKA surgery.Results: The pooled data included 1,721 patients and showed that patients in the ABT drainage group might benefit from lower blood transfusion rates (16.59 % and 37.47 %, OR: 0.28 [0.14, 0.55]; 13.05 % and 16.91 %, OR: 0.73 [0.47,1.13], respectively). Autologous blood transfusion drainage and closed-suction drainage/no drainage have similar clinical efficacy and safety with regard to post-operative haemoglobin on days 3-5, length of hospital stay and wound infections.Conclusions: Autologous blood transfusion drainage offers a safe and efficient alternative to CS/no drainage with a lower blood transfusion rate. Opioid agonist therapies (OAT) for people with opioid use disorders (OUD) have been available in Ukraine since 2004. This study assessed the effect of 2014 Russian invasion of Ukraine on OAT re-enrollment and retention in conflict areas. We analyzed the Ukraine national registry of OAT patients containing 1868 people with OUD receiving OAT as of January 2014 in conflict areas (Donetsk, Luhansk, and the Autonomous Republic [AR] of the Crimea). We developed logistic regression models to assess the correlates of re-enrollment of OAT patients in government-controlled areas (GCA) from conflict areas and retention on OAT at 12 months after re-enrollment. Overall, 377 (20.2 %) patients were re-enrolled at an OAT site in a GCA from confict areas, of whom 182 (48.3 %) were retained on OAT through 2021. Correlates of re-enrollment were residing in Donetsk (adjusted odds ratios (aOR) = 7.06; 95 % CI: 4.97–10.20) or Luhansk (aOR = 6.20; 95 % CI: 4.38–8.93) vs. AR Crimea; age 18–34 (aOR = 2.03; 95 % CI: 1.07–3.96) or 35–44 (aOR = 2.09; 95 % CI: 1.24–3.71) vs. ≥55 years, and being on optimal (aOR = 1.78; 95 % CI: 1.33–2.39) or high OAT dosing (aOR = 2.76; 95 % CI: 1.93–3.96) vs. low dosing. Correlates of retention were drug use experience 15–19 years (aOR = 3.69; 95 % CI: 1.47–9.49) vs. <14 years of drug use; take-home (aOR = 3.42; 95 % CI: 1.99–5.96) vs. daily on-site dosing, and optimal (aOR = 2.19; 95 % CI:1.05–4.72) vs. low OAT dosing. Our study showed that one-fifth of patients were re-enrolled at sites in GCA areas, less than half of re-enrolled patients were retained. Disruption of OAT has implications for drug-, HIV-, and HCV-related morbidity and mortality.
