A field experiment was conducted for two consecutive years 2018-19 and 2019-20 with high bulking early potato cultivar Kufri Khyati at Central Potato Research Institute, RS, Gwalior in split plot design with six planting geometries as main plots viz S1-60v20 cm (Control), S2-66v15 cm, S3-66v20 cm, S4-75 v15 cm, S5-75v20 cm and S6-paired row and three haulm killing dates as sub plots viz 70, 80 and 90 days after planting. For growth parameters, only planting geometry 66v15 cm recorded significantly higher plant height (52.6 cm) over other planting geometries.75v15 cm (52.6) and 75v20 cm (50.2) planting geometry recorded non significant but higher compound leaves/plant over other plant geometries. Days to haulm killing did not influence the growth parameters viz, stem, compound leaves and plant height. Significant increasing trend was recorded for number and weight of seed size and total tubers with increasing planting geometry over wider plant geometry 75v20 cm (285 thousand/ha, 17.41 t/ha seed size tuber and 671 thousand/ha, 34.52 t/ha for total tuber) and highest was recorded in paired row planting (487 thousand/ha, 29.52 t/ha seed size tuber and 1040 thousand/ha, 45.93 t/ha total tuber). Paired row planting with 70 days of haulm killing recorded significantly highest seed size (516 thousand/ha) and total tuber number (1092 thousand/ha). By number 60v20 cm planting geometry at 80 days of haulm killing (51.15% and 0.957) and by weight paired row planting at 70 days of haulm killing (73.15% and 0.367) recorded significantly highest seed size tubers percent and best seed: non seed ratio over other factor combinations. Planting geometry 66v15 cm at 80 days haulm killing (11.3) and 75v15 cm at 90 days of haulm killing (11.7) recorded significantly highest seed multiplication rate by number and weight respectively. Paired row planting with 70 days haulm killing gave highest seed size tuber yield, per cent seed size tuber and best seed: non seed ratio but planting geometry with 66v20 cm and haulm killing at 70 days found to be economically viable option for the farmers with higher B:C ratio (1.75) for seed production of variety Kufri Khyati. The seed potato cost is very important component in total potato production and account for 30 to 70% which varies depending on the country or region. Tuber size is an important factor to decide the seed requirement per unit area. Seed size affects total yield, graded or marketable tuber yields. Standard seed tuber of 25-125 g weight (30-55 mm) is known as seed size tubers in India. Obtaining seed size tuber is important for achieving higher potential of the cultivars. The tuber size profile can be reduced or expanded by altering inter and intra row seed spacing, controlling days of growth by planting late or killing vines/haulm early, regulating inputs like fertilizer and water etc. An ideal combination of plant population, row width, and in-row seed spacing for a particular variety were the major factors for optimizing tuber size. Variation in tuber bulking ability in different genotypes results in variation in proportion of seed size tubers among different varieties. 70-80 days haulm killing found most suitable for getting higher proportion of seed size tubers in high bulking varieties. Proper management of N, P and K fertilizers is considered very important to maximize tuber yield and attain desirable quality. Variability in nitrogen dose/ha was observed which ranged from 100-150 between different regions of the world. Hence proper combination of above Agro-techniques should be adopted in seed production programme as per the region for getting higher proportion of seed size/plantable seed tubers. The study conducted at ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute, Regional Station Gwalior over a six-year period from 2017-18 to 2022-23 aimed to evaluate the performance of 17 popular potato varieties. These varieties were divided into early maturing and medium maturing categories. The study focused on various yield attributes and health parameters of these potato varieties, with a particular emphasis on breeder seed production. The emergence percentage ranged from 85% to 99%, indicating that different varieties had varying rates of successful sprouting and growth. Health status of the varieties was found sound. Variability was observed among varieties for yield attributing parameters and Kufri Neelkanth emerged as the top-performing variety in the study. It displayed the highest seed yield per square meter (3.31 kg), the highest number of tubers per square meter (231), and the largest mean seed weight (25.1 grams). Field trial was conducted under AICRP (Potato) at ICAR-CPRI, Regional station, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India during 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20 with advanced potato hybrids viz. HT/7-1105, HT/7-620 and HT/7-1329 along with controls Kufri Lima, Kufri Surya, Kufri Khyati and Kufri Lauvkar in RBD with 3 replications during second week of October every year. Emergence among hybrids and varieties was >85.0%. Plant vigor was higher in Kufri Lima (4.4) followed by HT/7-1329 and Kufri Surya (4.0). At 60 days, all the hybrids except HT/7-620 recorded significantly higher tuber dry matter over Kufri Khyati (15.0%). At 75 and 90 days, 2 hybrids and controls except Kufri Khyati recorded significantly higher dry matter over hybrid HT/7-620 (17.4% for 75 days and 18.1% for 90 days). Total tuber yield of Kufri Lima (23.5 t ha-1) followed by hybrid HT/7-1329 (23.4 t ha-1) at 60 days at same level of GDD (Growing degree days) of 1134, Kufri Lima (32.4 t ha-1) followed by Kufri Khyati (30.2 t ha-1) and hybrid HT/7-1329 (29.4 t ha-1) at 75 days at same level of GDD (Growing degree days) of 1291 and Kufri Lima (36.6 t ha-1) followed by hybrid HT/7-1329 (35.6 t ha-1) at 90 days at same level of GDD (Growing degree days) of 1426 recorded significantly higher or at par total tuber yield respectively than other controls/hybrids. Hybrid HT/7-1329 and Kufri Lima at 60, 75 and 90 days recorded highest economic return over other hybrids and varieties. Hence, Hybrid HT/7-1329 and variety Kufri Lima found to be most suitable for cultivation under early planting of hot prone areas of West-Central India for getting highest remunerative prices. The present study was carried out at ICAR -Central Potato Research Station, Gwalior during 2012-13 to assess the effect of dormancy breaking chemicals, their dip duration and microtuber size on growth and yield parameters. The three different size >4-6mm, >6-8mm and >8mm of variety Kufri Sindhuri were given dip treatment with six types of growth regulators/ dormancy breaking chemicals viz 1ppm gibberelic acid, 0.5 ppm gibberllic acid, 1% thiourea, 0.5 % thiourea, 1ppm gibberllic acid + 1% thiourea and 0.5 ppm gibberllic acid + 0.5 % thiourea along with water control for 30 min, 45 min and 60 min. All the treatments exhibited better growth and yield parameters over water control but significantly best at 5% was 0.5 ppm gibberllic acid treatment for growth parameters and 0.5 ppm gibberllic acid + 0.5 % thiourea treatment for yield parameters. All the dip duration 30 min, 45 min and 60 min had not significant at 5% level effect for both growth and yield parameters. The larger sized micro-tuber (>8 mm) showed significantly superior plant emergence, plant height, number of compound leaves per plant, number of stems per plant both at 50 and 75 days after planting followed by 4-8 mm grade and <4 mm grade micro-tubers. Similar trend was observed for all the yield parameters. The overall mean finding indicates that micro-tubers treated with 0.5 ppm gibberllic acid in combination with 0.5 % thiourea gave highest yield (226.0 q/ha tuber), among micro-tuber size of >8mm (295.0 q/ha tuber) and among dip duration 30 min (206.67q/ha) and 45 min (210 q/ha) resulted in significantly higher yield parameters under nucleus seed production in in vivo conditions of central India. An experiment was conducted at the ICAR-Central Potato Research Station, Gwalior (MP) during 2012-13 to study best packaging material and storage conditions for short term storage of potato microtubers of important varieties. Ten Micro tubers each of three popular varieties viz Kufri Sindhuri, Kufri Lauvkar and Kufri Chandramukhi (KCM) were packed in 5 packaging materials/ storage containers viz polythene without ventilation, polythene with ventilation, conical flask with cotton plug, conical flask with plastic cap and petri plates and kept in three storage condition viz ambient temperature, refrigerator (4°C) and plant growth chamber (3°C). After 45 days of storage of potato microtubers, at 5 per cent level of significance both percent overall weight loss and driage/ rottage was significantly low in polythene without ventilation (13.19 and 10.37 respectively) among packaging material and among storage conditions, at 5 per cent level of significance both percent overall weight loss and driage/ rottage was significantly low in growth chamber condition of 4°C (12.77 and 12.44 respectively) over other two storage conditions. Kufri Sindhuri recorded significantly lowest overall percent weight loss (17.95) and driage/ rottage (8.00) at 5 percent level of significance over KCM and Kufri Lauvkar.
