Abstract

The RED-100 experiment with a liquid xenon target was carried out at Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant. The goal of the experiment is the detection and study of the coherent elastic neutrino nucleus scattering process (CE$\nu$NS) for the low-energy antineutrinos in close vicinity to a reactor core. A good understanding of the external radioactive background is needed to achieve this goal. Abstract

The RED-100 two-phase xenon emission detector has been deployed at 19-m distance from the reactor core of the Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) in 2021 - 2022 for investigation of the possibility to observe reactor antineutrinos using the effect of coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CE{\nu}NS). The performance of the main systems of the RED-100 setup at operating nuclear power plant is described. There is no correlation of the radioactive background at the experimental setup site with ON and OFF states of the reactor. Abstract

Substantial experimental and theoretical efforts worldwide are devoted to explore the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter. At LHC and top RHIC energies, QCD matter is studied at very high temperatures and nearly vanishing net-baryon densities. There is evidence that a Quark-Gluon-Plasma (QGP) was created at experiments at RHIC and LHC. The transition from the QGP back to the hadron gas is found to be a smooth cross over. For larger net-baryon densities and lower temperatures, it is expected that the QCD phase diagram exhibits a rich structure, such as a first-order phase transition between hadronic and partonic matter which terminates in a critical point, or exotic phases like quarkyonic matter. The discovery of these landmarks would be a breakthrough in our understanding of the strong interaction and is therefore in the focus of various high-energy heavy-ion research programs. The Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at FAIR will play a unique role in the exploration of the QCD phase diagram in the region of high net-baryon densities, because it is designed to run at unprecedented interaction rates. High-rate operation is the key prerequisite for high-precision measurements of multi-differential observables and of rare diagnostic probes which are sensitive to the dense phase of the nuclear fireball. The goal of the CBM experiment at SIS100 (sqrt(s_NN) = 2.7 - 4.9 GeV) is to discover fundamental properties of QCD matter: the phase structure at large baryon-chemical potentials (mu_B > 500 MeV), effects of chiral symmetry, and the equation-of-state at high density as it is expected to occur in the core of neutron stars. In this article, we review the motivation for and the physics programme of CBM, including activities before the start of data taking in 2022, in the context of the worldwide efforts to explore high-density QCD matter., Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures. Abstract

21. A Study of the Superplastic Deformation Behavior of Low-Cost Ti-2Fe-0.1B Alloys.

Abstract

Titanium alloys have high specific strength and corrosion resistance, which have promising applications in industry. However, the machinability of titanium alloys is limited due to their crystal lattice and physical properties. Thus, in recent years, the superplastic forming of titanium alloys has been intensively developing, in particular, forming at low temperatures and/or high strain rates. In this work, a tensile test of low-cost Ti-2Fe-0.1B alloys was carried out at a temperature of 550~750 °C and a strain rate of 1 × 10−3 s−1~1 × 10−2 s−1. The results showed that the alloy exhibited good superplasticity even at a high strain rate (1 × 10−2 s−1) and a low deformation temperature of 550 °C; the elongation of the alloy in this state reached 137.5%. The high strain rate sensitivity coefficient m (0.3) and the maximum elongation (452%) were obtained at a strain rate of 1 × 10−3 s−1 and a temperature of 750 °C. Characteristics of the microstructure showed that during superplastic deformation, the recrystallization and grain boundary sliding of the alloy phases were accelerated, which could be ascribed to the effect of the element Fe. At the same time, the TiB phase located around the primary elongated α grains could also induce dynamic recrystallization and dynamic globularization during deformation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In recent decades, the effect of Fe element addition on titanium alloy has been investigated extensively due to the development of low-cost titanium alloys, as well as B microalloying, which could decrease the grain size of titanium alloys during the casting process. As a key structural material, the study of the fatigue behavior of titanium alloys is crucial and always attractive for scientists. Hence, in this paper, the low cycle fatigue (LCF) behavior and fracture characteristics of a low-cost Ti-2Fe-0.1B alloy with a lamellar structure were investigated systematically, five different strain amplitudes (Δεt/2) in the range from 0.6% to 1.4% were selected to control the LCF process. It was found that the Ti-2Fe-0.1B alloy exhibits continuous cyclic softening behavior in the cycle as a whole at Δεt/2 ≤ 1.2%, while at Δεt/2 = 1.4%, it exhibits slight cyclic hardening at the initial stage of the cycle, then shows cyclic softening. Compared with pure titanium and other typical titanium alloys, the Ti-2Fe-0.1B alloy indicated maximum fatigue life under the same strain amplitude, it can be attributed to the fine grain size result from the effect of Fe element and trace B, which could hinder the dislocation movement and crack propagation. In this paper presents the results of investigation the strength properties of the model single-phase Cu–30 wt. % Zn alloy, which has a low stacking fault energy (SFE) of 14 mJ⋅m–2. After ECAP and subsequent rolling nanoscale twins were formed in the microstructure. Rolling the alloy leads to strength increasing due to decrease structural elements size. В настоящей работе представлены результаты исследования прочностных свойств модельного однофазного сплава Cu–30 масс. % Zn, обладающего низким значением энергии дефекта упаковки (ЭДУ) 14 мДж⋅м–2. После проведения равноканального углового прессования (РКУП) с последующей прокаткой в микроструктуре были сформированы наноразмерные двойники. Прокатка сплава приводит к увеличению прочности за счет измельчения размера структурных элементов. Исследование выполнено при финансовой поддержке РФФИ в рамках научного проекта № 19–33–90109.

Abstract
