Tackling spatial inequalities needs to make sure that it improves the lives of people in rural and peripheral regions. Whilst local metrics and key indicators may be improved by measures implemented, this does not always translate to local people 'feeling' that development has improved their lives. Using ethnographic fieldwork and embodied and conversational research techniques, this paper adds to the place-based, evolutionary economic geography and resilience literature to develop the concept of the complex adaptive region assemblage, which draws on Deleuzian-based theory. I question whether this might be a lens to explore and better understand the measures that can be put in place in order to address the gap between regional development programmes, and the experiences of members of the public. The starting point was to explore the positionality of local people, and the paper finds that in the case studies (Cornwall UK and Southwest Virginia USA), systems put in place to revitalise these areas could be more effective if they pay attention to connecting spaces between local residents, and how they navigate their localities. • Place-based development needs to understand how local people experience rural regions. • Often, certain gaps make it more difficult for people to participate effectively in their regions. • Rural development needs to connect (missing) gaps in how people navigate place. • Viewing rural regions as complex adaptive assemblages helps to understand these gaps. The development of technology creates a new concept in trading by combining real-time video with commercial activities known as live-streaming commerce. Livestreaming commerce or better known as shoppertaiment is a combination of electronic commerce and entertainment. The trend of shopping through livestreaming commerce is increasing, thus changing consumer habits and everyday lifestyles. Based on this situation, it is necessary to conduct research on livestreaming commerce. The aim of the research conducted is to consider the results of pre-existing studies and systematically review literature reviews on livestreaming commerce research by summarizing all academic scientific publication papers from 2017 to 2022. The research questions from this study were: (1) What are the current live-streaming commerce studies? (2) What research methods have been used in live-streaming commerce studies? (3) What are the potentials for future research on live-streaming commerce research? To answer the first question, various aspects of live streaming commerce are described, such as definitions, types, technologies, challenges, benefits, and models. Answer the second question by applying various methods and techniques. To describe the practical experience of delivering a proactive and integrated consultation-liaison (C-L) psychiatry service model (PICLP). PICLP is designed for older medical inpatients and is explicitly biopsychosocial and discharge-focused. In this paper we report: (a) observations on the training of 15 clinicians (seven senior C-L psychiatrists and eight assisting clinicians) to deliver PICLP; (b) the care they provided to 1359 patients; (c) their experiences of working in this new way. A mixed methods observational study using quantitative and qualitative data, collected prospectively over two years as part of The HOME Study (a randomized trial comparing PICLP with usual care). The clinicians were successfully trained to deliver PICLP according to the service manual. They proactively assessed all patients and found that most had multiple biopsychosocial problems impeding their timely discharge from hospital. They integrated with ward teams to provide a range of interventions aimed at addressing these problems. Delivering PICLP took a modest amount of clinical time, and the clinicians experienced it as both clinically valuable and professionally rewarding. The experience of delivering PICLP highlights the special role that C-L psychiatry clinicians, working in a proactive and integrated way, can play in medical care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Floating bridges are economically attractive alternatives used for crossing wide and deep straits or fjords. They have played a crucial role in transportation since the early 20th century. Although several floating bridges are currently in operation worldwide, their design standards are not mature, especially associated with the dynamic response analysis. To this end, a review of the relevant advances and research directions of floating bridges is presented. In this paper, the development and types of floating bridges are briefly introduced. To evaluate the dynamic responses of floating bridges, research advances are reviewed from the perspectives of numerical simulations, model tests, and field measurements. It has shown that floating bridges are exposed to complex coastal environmental conditions in which combinations of various loads can induce significant load effects. Challenges can come from environmental inhomogeneity, structural flexibility, coupled effects, and multi-disasters. Besides, the existing research methods have more or less shortcomings, making it difficult to effectively analyze their dynamic responses. This paper summarizes the previous methods for the dynamic response analysis of floating bridges, with an emphasis on loads and load effects. Whenever the policy challenges to address ask for a strong scientific background, decision makers depend on the underlying research activities. One of the fields in which research is able to affect the design and implementation of policies is given by the Circular Economy (CE). Our purpose in this paper is to understand how scholars carry out their research in the CE to realize whether a common pattern emerge and identify implications for policy. We provide a systematic investigation of the world's ten largest national research communities (NRCs) to highlight differences and similarities and understand the underlying patterns of research. We refer to eight key dimensions, which are mostly original ones and, therefore, represent elements of novelty of the paper: internationality, interdisciplinarity, specialization, relevance of local issues, policy implications, provision of case studies, research focus and research method. A dataset with 3027 CE-related research publications that range from 2001 to 2018 has been used for the elaborations. Results show some similarities and differences: everywhere, the empirical method prevails over the theoretical, and research is mostly focused on the micro-level of analysis (e.g., consumers and firms), while national research communities differ with respect to the openness to international collaborations, the degree with which some specific disciplines contribute to research in the field of CE, and the consideration of local issues provide. • A cross-country comparison of national research communities (NRCs) studying CE is offered. • NRCs are compared along eight key-dimensions using eleven indicators. • Empirical methods prevail over theory and research focus is on micro-level analyses. • Differences emerge with respect to interdisciplinarity and attention to local issues. • China, US, and European countries are moving along diverse research trajectories. Presently, child-specific tools and instruments related to active school travel (AST) are lacking. This methodological shortcoming often contributes to suboptimal AST behaviour evaluations and intervention programming. The aim of this paper was to develop and validate a theoretically informed child-specific scale regarding multiple perceived barriers and enablers known to impact children's participation in AST. Mixed methods. A mixed-methods and multistudy scale development approach featuring the application of social-ecological theory, a validation pilot study (n = 80), and test-retest study (n = 96) was conducted in collaboration with children in Ontario, Canada. In tandem with completing cognitive interviews and online surveys, multiple analyses, including a qualitative thematic analysis, along with weighted Cohen's kappa, Cronbach's alpha, and confirmatory factor analysis were undertaken. Qualitative analyses of the developed tool addressed face validity concerns related to the response options and definitions of terms used. Following the reliability analyses of 40 items, two confirmatory factor analyses were run to assess the construct validation of perceived AST barriers and enablers, and resulted in the development of the 24-item Perceived Active School Travel Enablers and Barriers – Child (PASTEB-C) questionnaire. Populism has emerged as a central explanation employed by both media outlets and scholars for the mishandling of the COVID-19 crisis. Nonetheless, the relationship between public health and populism extends before and beyond the pandemic. This paper offers a comprehensive overview of existing evidence and theoretical conceptualisations on the intersection of populism, health emergencies, and contrarian scientific positions, drawing from a diverse range of disciplines. I conducted a scoping review of 283 original studies, analysing their analytical framework, geographic focuses, and methodological approaches. Employing quantitative text analysis, I summarised the research field into 18 common topics, organised into five coherent categories: citizen's perspective, political elites, political communication, pandemic consequences, and non-COVID-related issues. While the scholarly interest in this area has surged since the onset of the pandemic, it has predominantly concentrated on specific cases, such as Brazil and the US, often conflating different policy types. The evidence summary elucidates that populism assumes varying roles within distinct contexts, and there is no linear relationship between political populism and specific approaches to health crises and science. I further compare definitions of populism within the context of health and scientific positions. I propose that future research should employ a policy typology for health emergency responses, assessing political positions based on policy arenas. The aim of the study was to assess the usefulness of analysing visual material in a 3D environment when examining spatial interrelations between the incident participants, tools, and space surrounding the incident site. Such analysis may provide information about the trauma mechanism, which may lead to the determination of probable events. This paper points to the potential of conducting research under 3D environment conditions on the example of a specific criminal incident—a suspected homicide. The aim of the study was to identify possible circumstances of the events with particular emphasis on the mechanism of death and the involvement of third parties. It was performed a comprehensive 3D reconstruction of the elements of the incident using different sources and forms of evidence, and consequently also different imaging, analysis, and synthesis technologies. The resulting 3D reconstruction and animation of the possible events serve to verify the investigative hypotheses. The paper combines a technical description of the research methodology with a forensic commentary, which ultimately creates an integral synthesis of the medicolegal assessment for trial purposes, while presenting the effectiveness of the research methods used. Gifts are a powerful way to acknowledge and strengthen interpersonal relationships. As with any relational space, gifting plays various roles in forming and maintaining relationships in political contexts, but its contribution to relationship-building has attracted little attention. This paper examines how politicians in Aotearoa New Zealand both engage with gifting and how they navigate the perceptions of others. Four current members of parliament (MPs) and six retired MPs participated in semi-structured interviews with questions on common practices and common understandings about political gifting. Their responses indicate their use of four different processes: formal processes are the guidelines provided by the government on gifting, but when these are insufficient, contextual processes regarding perceptions of the media, constituents or colleagues are used, or, alternatively, MPs rely on personal values or view gifting in terms of transactional processes with both parties receiving benefits. The paper explores perceptions and complexities of a sequence of gifts during events (event gifting). Time to event outcomes is commonly encountered in epidemiologic research. Multiple papers have discussed the inadequacy of using the hazard ratio as a causal effect measure due to its noncollapsibility and the time-varying nature. In this paper, we further clarified that the hazard ratio might be used as a conditional causal effect measure, but it is generally not a valid marginal effect measure, even under randomized design. We proposed to use the restricted mean survival time (RMST) difference as a causal effect measure, since it essentially measures the mean difference over a specified time horizon and has a simple interpretation as the area under survival curves. For observational studies, propensity score adjustment can be implemented with RMST estimation to remove observed confounding bias. We proposed a propensity score stratified RMST estimation strategy, which performs well in our simulation evaluation and is relatively easy to implement for epidemiologists in practice. Our stratified RMST estimation includes two different versions of implementation, depending on whether researchers want to involve regression modeling adjustment, which provides a powerful tool to examine the marginal causal effect with observational survival data. Transitioning to a low carbon energy future is essential to meet the Paris Agreement targets and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To understand how societies can undertake this transition, energy models have been developed to explore future energy scenarios. These models often focus on the techno-economic aspects of the transition and overlook the long-term implications on both society and the natural environment. Without a holistic approach, it is impossible to evaluate the trade-offs, as well as the co-benefits, between decarbonisation and other policy goals. This paper presents the Energy Scenario Evaluation (ESE) framework which can be used to assess the impact of energy scenarios on society and the natural environment. This conceptual framework utilises interdisciplinary qualitative and quantitative methods to determine whether an energy scenario is likely to lead to a publicly acceptable and sustainable energy transition. Using the SDGs, this paper illustrates how energy transitions are interconnected with human development and the importance of incorporating environmental and socio-economic data into energy models to design energy scenarios which meet other policy priorities. We discuss a variety of research methods which can be used to evaluate spatial, environmental, and social impacts of energy transitions. By showcasing where these impacts will be experienced, the ESE framework can be used to facilitate engagement and decision-making between policymakers and local communities, those who will be directly affected by energy transitions. Since the mid-1980s, Australia has resettled thousands of African refugees. This paper focuses on the racialization of youth violence and the damage it sustains on refugee-background young Africans. The discussion proceeds in two interrelated stages. In the first stage, to understand the representation of African youth in the public sphere, the paper reviews the relevant literature, media headlines, and political commentaries. In so doing, it establishes that the continual framing of African youth as dangerous and violence-prone by conservative politicians and media outlets amounts to racial moral panic. In the second stage, guided by narrative research methodology, a small group of young Africans were invited to reflect on their everyday life under racialized frames. Accounts of the youth are presented under four themes: the presumption of guilt, emotional ill-being, opportunity hoarding, and the permanence of otherness. This paper about social media platforms of Swiss hospitals refers to the period between 10 February 2020 and 6 July 2020. The study included in-depth insights into the use of platforms, content analyses of posts and resonance of the posts. The study's objective was to get insights into social media post creation by and corresponding resonance in pandemic crisis. This study included collection and analyses of posts created by a selection of Swiss hospitals during the period of study. All university hospitals and a variety of private and regional hospitals in all regions of Switzerland are represented. The data collection started before the official shutdown in Switzerland. This study used mixed method approach and content analysis to evaluate 2,326 posts during the study period related to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the first phase of the pandemic, hospitals used social media platforms more frequently than normal. Especially in the first month, the number of posts rose disproportionally. The numbers dropped back to the initial situation after only 4 months into the COVID-19 pandemic. Most hospitals used Facebook and Twitter, whereas Instagram and YouTube's use were marginal. University hospitals used social media platforms differently than regional hospitals. Most posts generated only a very low response with a median of 2. Hospitals were therefore not able to create engagement of their followers. However, hospitals that publish actively were able to build a more active community. Only a small number of posts led to heated discussions in the comments. These viral posts shared information on the illness, the vaccination, children and COVID-19. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Misophonia is a condition marked by dysregulated emotions and behaviors in response to trigger sounds, often chewing, breathing, or coughing. Evidence suggests that misophonia develops in adolescence and the emotions and behaviors are a conditioned response to distress, resulting in social avoidance, stress, and family conflict. In addition, co-occurrence with other psychiatric illnesses such as anxiety, OCD, and Tourette syndrome is common. A transdiagnostic cognitive behavioral therapeutic (CBT) approach appears appropriate. There are currently no controlled studies of youth with misophonia. The current paper describes the approach to a pilot randomized, blinded family-based treatment study for youth ages 8-16 years. Preliminary results from a pilot open trial also are described.Methods: A 2-phase dual site telehealth treatment study using a transdiagnostic CBT approach, the Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Children and Adolescents (UP-C/A; Ehrenreich-May et al., 2018), is proposed. Phase 1 consisted of a 4-case pilot of UP-C/A. Phase 2 includes a randomized trial comparing the UP-C/A to a standard relaxation and education protocol.Results: Preliminary results from the pilot show modest improvements in evaluator-rated misophonia symptoms on the Clinical Global Impression Severity and Improvement scales.Limitations: There is little research to inform evidence-based practice for youth with misophonia. Study limitations include lack of standardized misophonia assessment instruments and an absence of formal diagnostic criteria.Conclusions: The current paper describes proposed methods for the first randomized controlled trial for youth with misophonia and their families along with results from a 4-case pilot. • Permanent supportive housing (PSH) is one setting which aims to provide stability and community to those who have experienced homelessness. • PSH has not been widely studied with young adults. • This paper uses mixed method to explore how young adult residents experience psychological sense of community (PSOC) before and after moving into PSH. • We find that building community takes time and requires opportunities for voices to be heard, along with ongoing personal growth (often related to substance use recovery). • Future PSH settings for young people should consider how to support residents in their individual journeys, and in building community. Amidst chronic stressors and ongoing instability, many young people who have experienced homelessness and housing instability find communities and settings which offer support and care. Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) is one setting which aims to provide stability and community to those who have experienced homelessness, but it has not been widely studied with young adults (ages 18–25 upon moving into PSH). This paper employs a longitudinal convergent mixed methods approach – with quantitative and qualitative survey data over 1.5 years – to explore how young adult residents (N = 27 at T1; N = 20 at T2, N = 13 at T3) experience sense of community before and after moving into PSH. Using McMillan and Chavis' (1986) four-part Psychological Sense of Community (PSOC) framework to frame data collection and analysis, we find that residents' sense of community is shaped by an ongoing negotiation of personal and collective needs. Building community takes time and requires opportunities for voices to be heard (and shape change), along with ongoing personal growth – especially related to substance use recovery. Our findings offer insights for future PSH settings for young people – as well as other residential and community settings which aim to support young people. • Inclined stiffened panels of the fuselage tail were tested under shear load. • The simulation model was established to predict the buckling, post-buckling, and failure modes of inclined stiffened composite panels. • The non-linear relationship between the debonding of the stiffeners and the skin was quantitatively analyzed. • The concept of equivalent skin thickness was introduced to analyze the influence of stringer configuration on panel buckling and post-buckling. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the buckling and post-buckling behavior of inclined stiffened composite panels under shear load. Two types of stiffened composite panels were manufactured and tested. The buckling load, ultimate load and other required structural properties of the inclined stiffened composite panels were obtained. The test results show that the failure load of the two types of panels are 5.79 times and 11.2 times of the buckling load, respectively, indicating that such inclined stiffened panels have a large post-buckling capacity. The damage modes of the panel are tearing around the skin near the clamps and debonding of the stringers from the skin. The combination of Hashin failure criterion, Cohesive model and nonlinear connection of clamp was used to conduct finite element modeling, which effectively predicts the buckling, post-buckling and damage modes of the structure. The buckling and post-buckling behavior of stiffened panels with different stinger configurations were discussed based on finite element analysis. The results show that when the initial buckling occurs between the stringers, the buckling and failure load of the stiffened panel become larger as the equivalent skin thickness between the stringers become larger. This paper introduces an innovative method for enhanced researcher reflexivity: the use of synchronous collective writing as a space to collaboratively reflect on experiences of subjectification within the contemporary academy. We explore how, despite its apparent importance to contemporary research, the neoliberalisation of academia leaves little room for meaningful reflexivity. The authors in this paper – ranging from Master's student to postdoctoral researcher – wrote collaboratively in real-time to organically develop a method of collective reflexivity. Through auto-ethnographic vignettes that act as raw data, and a critical analysis of how we came to experience the events showcased in these vignettes, we analyse how our positionalities shape both our subjection to, and perpetuation of, systems of symbolic violence in neoliberal academic institutions. Through this method, we explore experiences of the contemporary university as patriarchal, intensively marketised, and as a space where the prevalence of 'weak' reflexivity has negative impacts on research ethics. We argue that the affect of collaborative writing spaces acts as a resistance against our experiences of loneliness, competition and individualism. Participatory approaches have gained broad interest among researchers as a vehicle for allowing participants' experiences and voices to inform research, beyond simply being a source of data. However, participants in mentoring programs, particularly young people, often are not included in research partnerships in a meaningful way. Additionally, practitioners often struggle to translate research findings into program improvements. This paper examines the experiences of a research team collaborating with two user groups: mentoring practitioners, and youth with migrant and refugee backgrounds participating in mentoring programs. With ambitions for meaningful user involvement, our aim was to develop and test a digital intervention for supporting social capital in mentoring. The paper draws primarily upon participant observation and qualitative data from a focus group and panel discussions. While youth voices did inform and shape the research, we also experienced challenges related to youth understanding and engagement. The adult practitioners participated actively but encountered tensions due to their dual roles as co-researchers and mentoring professionals, and resource constraints. Ultimately, a close collaboration enabled the co-creation of adaptations to our research approaches, allowing meaningful participation for some of the youth, and facilitating program changes. This paper offers lessons for researchers wishing to conduct participatory research in the context of youth mentoring, as well as specific suggestions for those studying social capital. • Young people are rarely included in research & policy that affect their lives. • We conducted youth participatory action research with youth in Cleveland, Ohio. • We show how engaging with youth across all stages of research enriches the work. • Our collaborative research highlights challenges to youth well-being. Research on youth well-being is often driven by adult researcher voices, while youth experiences are neglected. Youth participatory action research (YPAR) is a distinct and powerful approach to capture youth experiences unique to particular social settings and leverage these voices to produce action and change through research. YPAR can be used to challenge oppression, mitigate the researcher-participant hierarchy, and build a social justice-oriented methodology, particularly when it uses a critical and intersectionality lens, rooted in a wider understanding of racial oppression. This methodology paper analyzes our Youth Lens methodology, which uses Critical YPAR to explore African American youth perceptions of how the neighborhood environment shapes health and well-being in Cleveland, Ohio. We describe, in detail, our methodology which was used to examine the history of redlining and systemic racism in the city and how it has driven present-day health and socioeconomic disparities. • UK law changed in 2018 to permit cannabis prescribing. Cannabis remains otherwise criminalised. Participants experienced benefits from cannabis across a broad range of conditions. • Most people who need a cannabis prescription in the UK still cannot access one. • Poor implementation of cannabis prescribing policy creates heath inequalities. • Intractable prohibition policy context continues to create social harms. This paper reports on the first qualitative study to interview people prescribed cannabis in the UK. Cannabis is a class B controlled substance under the 1971 Misuse of Drugs (MoD) Act, but a 2018 change to UK regulations provided for the prescription of cannabis for medical purposes. Relatively few people have been able to access a prescription, despite this policy change. This paper examines their experiences. Qualitative, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 24 people with a prescription for cannabis, or their carers. Data was analysed using a reflextive thematic analysis approach. The findings are discussed using a zemiology (social harms) perspective which provides a language for critical reflection on the current cannabis policy context. All participants reported that cannabis had significantly improved their mental and/or physical health, across a broad range of conditions. Many had been able to reduce their use of conventional medicines and reported that cannabis had relatively few side effects. Despite the potentially life-enhancing benefits of cannabis medicine, patients in the UK face multiple barriers to access. These include a lack of funding streams, bureaucratic supply problems, and a lack of training for doctors and police. Even for the few people able to obtain a prescription, the ongoing criminalisation of cannabis in the UK contributed to their experiences of stigmatisation. This often made it difficult and anxiety-inducing to take their medicine in public spaces. The UK government's lack of implementation of medical cannabis legalisation, combined with their ongoing prohibition position, is producing multiple harms to people who need cannabis medicine. The policy context is perpetuating stigmatising attitudes to cannabis which, as we demonstrate, contribute to social harms. In this work, we presented a new model called the alpha power inverse power Burr-Hatke distribution (APIPBHD). It provides several greater advantages in fitting a variety of different types of data. Estimates of the model parameters are provided and based on traditional research methods. We established the superiority of the proposed distribution by utilizing the importance and adaptability of the APIPBHD compared to other well-known distributions. The real data set includes 63 observations, all of which were manufactured to approximate the strengths of glass fibers to highlight the relevance and flexibility of the provided technique. We proved our superiority using one set of real data. Finally, major findings and conclusions are recorded at the end of the paper. The NHS England Radiotherapy Service Specification calls for routine use of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). However, barriers exist at patient, healthcare professional and service levels. The aim of the present study was to determine the current use of PROMs within radiotherapy services in England. The current attitudes, barriers and enablers to the implementation of PROMs in radiotherapy practice were evaluated and practical recommendations to inform future implementation were developed. A mixed-methods approach was adopted to obtain quantitative and qualitative data. An online questionnaire was developed and disseminated to all radiotherapy operational delivery network managers across England. The questionnaire consisted of 12 open and closed questions relating to PROMs use, with the option to provide free-text responses. Inductive thematic analysis was conducted on free-text comments, whereas descriptive statistics were used to analyse quantitative data. In total, 182 responses were received from 40 of the 50 radiotherapy providers, resulting in a response rate of 84%. The current use of PROMs was analysed, including rationale for use, tools used, format of PROMs collection and timing within the radiotherapy pathway. Most respondents indicated that PROMs were used in the context of clinical trials only. Through thematic analysis, four identical key themes were identified relating to both barriers and enablers to PROMs use; these included IT infrastructure, time, human/financial resources and training/education. A fifth theme, standardisation, was identified as a key enabler to PROMs use. Our findings show that outside of clinical trials, PROMs are not routinely used in radiotherapy services due to barriers identified at professional and service levels. Here we provide recommendations to mitigate the barriers identified and implement PROMs in radiotherapy, including training for healthcare professionals and standardisation of PROMs tools and storage. The study provides a comprehensive review of the current research on aircraft fire-related issues while highlighting the investigation process and scientific analysis methods employed in aircraft fire incidents. Case studies demonstrate technical investigations of typical aircraft fire incidents are provided. These cases exemplify the complexity involved in aircraft fire investigations and emphasize the criticality of analyzing failure particulars in understanding fire incidents. On this basis, the framework of multilayer management and control for VPP is designed, and the calculation program of VPP emergency regulation capacity is developed. Through modular modeling and the design of general architecture and open interactive interface, a simulation system for VPP participating in power grid emergency dispatching is developed. Finally, a single VPP containing heterogeneous DERs is taken as an example to illustrate the simulation results and sensitivity analysis of VPP emergency regulation capacity. Taking the regional power grid with multiple VPPs as an example, the supporting effect of VPP on power grid emergency dispatching is illustrated. Traditional methods of delivering construction information, relying on paper-based shop drawings, specifications, and verbal instructions, often lead to increased mental workload, error rates, and difficulties in accessing information. This raises the question of how the traditional approach to accessing design and construction information on construction sites can be improved to address these issues. This paper describes a hybrid approach known as AR-QR code, which aims to enhance the conventional paper-based method of accessing such information using the power of Augmented Reality (AR). The research methodology involved: process mapping, prototype development, and evaluation. The evaluation results revealed that professionals expressed confidence in the potential of the AR-QR code approach to alleviate the limitations associated with traditional methods at construction sites. According to popular understandings, children grow from a state of dependence to eventually become independent adults. Interdependence helps to disrupt the in/dependence binary and is a useful concept for making sense of the experiences young people with variations in sex characteristics in relation to healthcare. This study used semi-structured interviews with 32 health professionals, 33 caregivers and 12 young people recruited in the UK and Sweden. The analysis is guided by the questions: (1) how do young people, carers and health professionals position themselves in the adult/young person relationship in the context of healthcare? (2) how is the (in/ter)dependence of young people imagined when young people, carers and health professionals talk about healthcare? Our analysis shows how carers and health professionals might support dominant understandings about young people growing towards independence while providing little opportunity for young people's agency and voice. Interviews with young people gave clear examples of their negotiating relational ways of being, seeking agency in the context of healthcare and not simply becoming independent of adults. This analysis also draws attention to the ways young people might be silenced within healthcare contexts. The present paper is based on secondary analysis of data from the SENS. The factors that inhibit and promote professional interventions with young adults refer to social, formal-structural, and personal factors. Nevertheless, studies of these factors from social workers' perspective, and research of the inhibitors associated with the socio-cultural context of minority young adults, are few. The aim of the present study was to examine social workers' perceptions of the factors that inhibit and promote interventions in the socio-cultural and formal-structural context of at-risk young Arab-Palestinian women in Israel, who are at an intersection of marginal positions. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 21 social workers. The findings revealed two themes: 1) Social workers' perceptions of the challenges in two dimensions, a) socio-cultural factors which include family centrality in the young women's life, and b) formal-structural inhibitors. 2) Promoting factors which include professional values and the need for cooperation between organizations themselves and with recipients of the services The findings were reviewed according to the intersectional invisibility model, and were based on the concept of institutional discrimination, which showed that at-risk young Arab women experience an intersectional invisibility of their identities and, at the same time, the social workers experience a conflicting situation within the wider context of intersectional discrimination. Australia's prisons have a high chronic hepatitis C (HCV) prevalence (8 %). Antiviral therapies and prison-based hepatitis services are available, but only a minority of those eligible are being treated. Improving the HCV public health literacy of the prison sector via targeted education may overcome key barriers to scale-up treatment. This paper describes the: i) HCV public health literacy of the prison setting; ii) barriers and solutions for HCV education and service engagement; iii) HCV education program co-design and development processes; and iv) HepPEd resources. A national needs assessment was conducted to analyse the HCV public health literacy of the target audience groups in the prisons (healthcare providers; custodial officers; people in prison) to inform development of a prison-specific HCV education program (HepPEd). Structured interviews were conducted with key informants (n = 40). Three National Steering Committees, one for each target group, were convened to co-design and develop HepPEd. Only healthcare providers involved with hepatitis care were considered to have 'good' to 'very good' HCV health literacy (including knowledge, attitudes, and capabilities), with all other groups considered less favourably. Key barriers identified included being time poor (healthcare providers), poor motivation (custodial officers) and stigma (people in prison). Peer education delivery was considered a key facilitator for custodial officers and people in prison. A suite of multi-modal resources addressing the perceived gaps in HCV health literacy was developed, with a broad theme of 'Let's talk about hep C'. Delivery of HepPEd was designed to overcome key barriers and utilise facilitators for each group. Significant gaps in HCV health literacy were perceived amongst the target audience groups. The comprehensive co-design and development processes utilised in HepPEd suggest the program will be well-placed to improve the HCV public health literacy of the prison sector and thereby enhance HCV testing and treatment rates amongst people in prison. Assessing the internal dynamics of organizations has been shown to provide information that can help planners and policymakers improve service delivery. A good organizational climate, which in this study incorporates mission clarity, team cohesion, staff autonomy, communication, levels of stress, and openness to change has been shown to be of particular importance. Still, there is a dearth of evidence in this area, and while relationships between organizational factors have been identified, little is known about the mechanisms that might underpin these relationships, and there is little understanding of how to address deficits once they are identified. The objective of this study was to identify relationships between program factors that influence organizational climate and to explore which mechanisms might underpin these relationships. This paper reports on a cross-sectional, concurrent, mixed-methods study design, across twelve discrete community-based prescribing service providers (organizations) in Ireland. Data was obtained using a staff survey [ n = 132] which utilized measurements of organizational readiness to change and one-to-one interviews [ n = 12]. Quantitative data was analyzed using multivariate linear regression modeling which assessed relationships between variables, while interviews were analyzed using an abductive approach, both types of data were synthesized at the interpretation stage. A range of interdependent factors were considered to affect the climate of organizations. Surveys identified that specific types of resources, such as physical infrastructure, training, and staffing resources were important for supporting a good organizational climate, while programs with greater needs had a poorer climate. Opportunities for professional growth, the skill sets of staff, and having access to e-communication were also significant. Interviewees reported that rigid organizational hierarchies and bureaucracy, philosophical views of addiction, stress, and staff turnover were influenced by the provision of fewer resources. Interdependent factors such as leadership, supervision, staff relationships, and collective training, also thought to be influenced by resources, were considered to positively influence programs. Resources were not the only challenge identified, and practices within programs and how existing resources are used were also thought to contribute both positively and negatively to the internal dynamics of services. Key findings in this study identified that the organization of effective services is influenced by a range of specific factors, some of which can be addressed without additional resources. Overall, staff views of organizations can provide us with valuable information to support service improvement. Using a mixed methods approach can not only identify where relationships between organizational variables exist but can also help us to understand the mechanisms that underpin these relationships and, importantly, how to address deficits once they are identified. The social identity approach to leadership posits that leaders' effectiveness depends on their ability to represent, advance, create, and embed a shared sense of social identity among their followers. Although significant progress has been made in investigating the benefits of identity leadership in adult sports, research in youth sports is still in its infancy. One reason is the lack of a youth-centric inventory that adequately measures identity leadership in this population. To bridge this gap, we developed and validated a long (16 items) and short (5 items) version of the Identity Leadership Inventory for Youth Sport (ILI-Y or ILI-Y-Short-Form) through five studies conducted in three phases of research. Data were primarily collected in football in the United Kingdom, involving a total of 1096 participants. Results of Phase I of this study provided little to no evidence that the ILI – originally developed for adults – was understandable (Study 1) and had factor validity and internal consistency (Study 2) in a sample of youth athletes. Therefore, in Phase II, the ILI was revised, leading to the development of the ILI-Y, which was understandable for youth athletes (Study 3). Results from Phase II (Study 4) also indicated that the ILI-Y exhibited a unidimensional factor structure, which was subsequently confirmed in Phase III (Study 5). This last phase offered additional evidence for the discriminant, criterion, and incremental validity of the ILI-Y and its short form, along with their measurement invariance across genders and age groups, and internal consistency. Sterilization is now the most common contraceptive method used by women of in the U.S., and sterilization devices have played an important role in its increased popularity. This mixed methods study examines a random sample of 2500 U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) adverse event reports made between 2006 and 2017 about Essure, a sterilization device. Quantitative coding was used to examine patient problems; pain and bleeding were reported most frequently. Qualitative coding analyzed impacts of symptoms on patients' everyday lives and patients' healthcare experiences, including intimate relationships, mothering, and paid employment. Findings suggest that some patients struggled when their reported "subjective" symptoms didn't result in "objective" clinical signs of problems, and when physicians dismissed or deflected their concerns in diagnostic encounters. The Overall Assessment of the Speaker's Experience of Stuttering for Adults (OASES-A; Yaruss & Quesal, 2016) is a widely used measurement tool designed to evaluate the adverse impact associated with stuttering. Items examine general perceptions of stuttering, personal reactions to stuttering, functional communication difficulties, and consequences for quality of life. This paper presents a shortened research version of the OASES-A response form (OASES-A-R) that can be used by researchers in scientific studies involving adults who stutter that reflect the Section and Total Scores of the original OASES-A using fewer items. Previously collected OASES-A data (N = 315) were analyzed via graded response modeling to identify discrimination values of each OASES-A item in measuring each OASES-A Section Total Score. Items with the highest discrimination and items judged by expert clinicians to be more important in measuring adverse impact (N = 27) were used to create a shortened OASES-A-R. The shortened OASES-A-R response form was then validated and compared to the full OASES-A response form in an independent sample (N = 156). The shortened 25-item OASES-A-R response form demonstrated very high and positive correlations with the full OASES-A response form. Similarly, each OASES-A-R Section demonstrated high internal reliability coefficients similar to those of the OASES-A. The resulting 25-item OASES-A-R response form provides a reflection of the speaker's experience of stuttering as measured by the original 100-item OASES-A that is suitable for use in certain research studies of adults who stutter. Clinical use is not recommended, as the full OASES-A provides additional insights about a client's experience of stuttering that are necessary for effective treatment planning and intervention. • The OASES-A-R is a 25 item research version of the OASES-A created and validated on the 100 item OASES-A. • The OASES-A-R was created via best pracAces in accordance with Item Response Theory. • The OASES-A-R can therefore be used, as appropriate, in certain research studies of adults who stutter. Seawater intrusion has been a globally significant environmental issue. This paper comprehensively reviews and highlights the research methods of seawater intrusion in China, recommending the potential application of novel radioactive radium-radon isotopes. Geochemical and geophysical techniques have been extensively utilized in studying seawater intrusion in China, including methods such as hydrochemical analysis, groundwater level observations, geophysical survey techniques, and isotope tracing. The former three methodologies boast a lengthier historical application in seawater intrusion field, while the radium-radon tools in isotope tracing, as newcomers, can specifically indicate crucial scientific questions such as seawater intrusion rates, salt groundwater age, water-rock reactions, and preferential flow dynamics. However, it is imperative to acknowledge the limitations inherent in the utilization of radium-radon tools within the realm of seawater intrusion research, as with any other methodologies. Strategic integration of radium-radon tools with other methodologies will propel advancements in the investigation of seawater intrusion in China. While the primary focus is on research methods in China, insights gained from novel radium-radon tools could have broader value for seawater intrusion research and coastal management globally. • Beneficial help relationships go beyond formal professional practice. • Peers and friends are central to youths' beneficial help seeking trajectories. • Family gestures and home practices are embedded in beneficial help relationships. The literature on help engagement of commercially sexually exploited youth has tended to focus on the challenges of such relationships and has been mostly grounded in studies of professional help relations from professional perspectives. This study is part of a large-scale study on help seeking and help related experiences from the perspectives of commercially sexually exploited youth (CSEY). This paper focuses specifically on the beneficial characteristics of help as seen by CSEY. Fifty commercially sexually exploited youths, in the present or in the past. In-depth semi-structured interviews, conducted and analyzed in accordance with the principles of Constructivist Grounded Theory. The study identified four characteristics of beneficial help that were salient both to help relations with professionals and in relations with peers and friends: Continuity and long-term ties; Sharing similarities; brokering help by others; "doing family," and "performing home." The significance of the various help experiences appeared to be more a function of how the help was provided and the nature of the relationship, rather than whether it was provided by formal or informal helpers. Nonetheless, the study underscores the critical importance of care and support by peers and friends and calls for further examination of the ways these might be integrated into services and programs for youths who are subject to commercial sexual exploitation. Many research questions focused on characterizing usual, or long-term average, dietary intake of populations and subpopulations rely on short-term intake data. The objective of this paper is to review key assumptions, statistical techniques, and considerations underpinning the use of short-term dietary intake data to make inference about usual dietary intake. The focus is on measurement error and strategies to mitigate its effects on estimated characteristics of population-level usual intake, with attention to relevant analytic issues such as accounting for survey design. Key assumptions are that short-term assessments are subject to random error only (i.e., unbiased for individual usual intake) and that some aspects of the error structure apply to all respondents, allowing estimation of this error structure in data sets with only a few repeat measures per person. Under these assumptions, a single 24-hour dietary recall per person can be used to estimate group mean intake; and with as little as one repeat on a subsample and with more complex statistical techniques, other characteristics of distributions of usual intake, such as percentiles, can be estimated. Related considerations include the number of days of data available, skewness of intake distributions, whether the dietary components of interest are consumed nearly daily by nearly everyone or episodically, the number of correlated dietary components of interest, time-varying nuisance effects related to day of week and season, and variance estimation and inference. Appropriate application of assumptions and recommended statistical techniques allows researchers to address a range of research questions, though it is imperative to acknowledge systematic error (bias) in short-term data and its implications for conclusions. This paper explores the social connectedness experiences among older migrants from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds in Australia. Data were collected via two rounds of semi-structured interviews and analysed using thematic and cluster analysis. Participants were 40 migrants aged 66-91 years, of German, Dutch, Romanian, Chinese, and Vietnamese origin. They identified a range of factors affecting their social connectedness experiences: personal preferences, individual efforts to connect with others, English language proficiency, driving ability, and length of residence. Data analysis also revealed four groupings of experience: the isolated, family, ethnic community, and multicultural cluster. These patterns of connectedness were experienced differently across the ethnic groups. The findings suggest the benefits of providing culture-specific social connection opportunities to help older migrants to stay socially connected. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The ROSIER scale allows rapid evaluation of patients with suspected stroke; this paper presents the validation of an Italian version of the ROSIER scale. Observational study in the emergency department of a major teaching hospital. Patients aged 18 or more, admitted to the emergency department, during a period of two years were enrolled. Construct validity was investigated through exploratory factor analysis (EFA), content validity through the content validity index (CVI-I). Internal consistency, interrater reliability and test-retest stability were assessed. Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were calculated. 539 subjects were enrolled. The Italian ROSIER scale (ROSIER-ita) showed a sensitivity of 97.6%, a specificity of 90.1%, a positive predictive value of 97.5% and a negative predictive value of 82.7%. EFA pointed out 1 factor; the ROSIER-ita explained 59.79% of total variance. Content validity was satisfying (CVI-I = 0.97). No significant differences (p = 0.90) were found in the scores of the first 50 recorded at the time of admission and after 10 min. Interrater reliability was excellent (rho = 0.96, p = 0.0066). Cronbach's alpha was 0.74, indicating acceptable correlation between the items. The Italian version of the ROSIER scale showed satisfactory results, comparable to the original English version, and can be applied by emergency nurses. • The ROSIER scale is a useful tool for identifying people with stroke in an emergency department. • The Italian version of the ROSIER scale has good psychometric properties and can be applied to clinical practice. • The ROSIER-ita allows triage nurses to timely route early stroke suspected patients to appropriate therapeutic pathways. • The variable sweep wing is taken as the research object. • A special active luminous mark has been designed for visually monitoring of wing deformation. • Detection methods for luminous marks under different imaging environments. • This approach exhibits environmental adaptability and enables real-time measurement of the sweep angle. In this paper, a binocular vision monitoring method to obtain the wing sweep angle of morphing aircraft in complex environments is proposed. Firstly, a binocular vision system is constructed and the relative testing error of the system is verified to be 0.89 %. Subsequently, experiments on mark detection in rain, fog, and ice environments are conducted. The Gaussian kernel function gradient detection method and the multi-Gaussian kernel function gradient detection method are proposed for identifying luminous marks in different environments. These two methods can be used to recognize marks in images with low contrast and blurriness. Finally, it has been confirmed that the mark recognition deviation is less than 0.82 pixels and 2.22 pixels in rain and fog environments, respectively. In the ice environment, the deflection angle deviation of the ice-covered mark is verified to be less than 0.40°. • A set of theoretical framework of building seismic performance evaluation has been formed, and the automatic evaluation of actual seismic performance of buildings has been realized. • This framework meets the evaluation requirements of various performance indicators in the existing FEMA P-58, and can make rapid and accurate predictions, which greatly improves the evaluation efficiency and quality, and provides fundamental support for the rapid assessment and prediction of regional and city-level building groups. • A set of discrete size variable multi-objective optimization model is proposed. The multi-objective optimization model proposed in this paper establishes a one-to-one correspondence between the design scheme and the two major costs from the perspective of structural size variables, which realizes the micro-level optimization design and improves the optimization level. Seismic loss prediction and performance assessment for buildings have already been hot spots for resilience after earthquakes with the emergence of the concepts of digital twins. However, because a large amount of multisource heterogeneous data and a real-time accurate prediction model are required to implement the process, the popularization and implementation of these technologies are hampered. Based on performance-based seismic design (PBSD) theory, this study introduces BIM and ontology and other emerging technologies to carry out methodology research on intelligent earthquake damage prediction and seismic performance evaluation for individual buildings. First, based on FEMA P-58 (Seismic Performance Assessment of Buildings), this paper uses BIM technology to integrate and transmit component-level engineering information. Ontology method is used to express the assessment content and logic, and a multidimensional semantic ontology model based on IFC is proposed to form the linked data foundation to organize, store, associate and interact the multisource heterogeneous data required for assessment in a unified way to realize the semi-automated seismic performance assessment for individual RC frame building. On this basis, the seismic optimization design under the guidance of the "investment - benefit" criterion is regarded as the problem of seeking the balance between the initial construction cost and the expectation of seismic loss. The multi-objective genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) is used to realize the optimization iteration at the component level. The urgency of redesigning the way food is produced and consumed has implications for the systems perspective of agronomy. An increasingly important strain of research addresses the 'how-to' question associated with the transformation of 'maldesigned' agricultural systems and produces 'transformative knowledge' as part of transitions in-the-making. Such knowledge production goes beyond 'transformation knowledge' resulting from the more classical analytical agronomic approaches and stances. Contributing to transitions in-the-making thus calls for systems agronomists to question their profession's why, what, and how. This special issue brings together contributions by systems agronomists collaborating with other scientists and societal actors revealing the less visible stream of fine-grained work to support transitions in-the-making in agroecosystems. In this introductory paper, changes in research scope and methods emerging from the contributions are highlighted to reinforce the engaged systems agronomist's roles in contributing to food system transitions. Three results stand out: 1) Contributing to transitions in-the-making necessitates going beyond analysis-oriented research stances to address the 'how' of transformative knowledge, and move beyond the more time-efficient dominant 'what' and 'why' questions; 2) Meta-methods are emerging about how to adapt and embed existing agronomic knowledge products within change processes. Reflection on the overarching transformation dynamics and on how to articulate knowledge products and change process will constitute an important extension of the systems agronomist's methods; 3) The efficacy of scientific transformative knowledge development may be enhanced if the notion of design is used more strictly in relation to engagement in societal change. The need to respond to the how-to questions associated with the transformation of the way food is produced and consumed requires systems agronomists to reflect on their stance in the research process, the way they design their research inclusively, and the way they shape their methods. This paper is the second in a series of papers from a mixed methods study examining moral injury in childhood and adolescence as described by emerging adults with histories of child welfare involvement. This paper focuses on the ways emerging adults may alleviate their moral injury, grow and develop. Twenty -eight emerging adults (18–26 years) who reported exposure to morally injurious events during childhood or adolescence on a modified version of the Moral Injury Events Scale (MIES; Nash et al., 2013) participated in life story interviews. Life story analyses of psychosocial contexts considered resiliency, especially any re-orientation of participants' narratives of moral injury away from the anomie, guilt, shame, and rage characteristic of moral injury, and towards themes such as hope, forgiveness, and gratitude. In addition, psychosocial-spiritual contexts that may support these shifts in meaning were explored through thematic analyses. Findings indicate that supportive relationships, especially with caring adults, engagement with spirituality, and access to prosocial activities provide foster youth with opportunities to re-orient their moral injury narratives, and provide a foundation on which to build towards recovery. In response to the problem of difficult recognition of overlapping sounds in previous broiler health monitoring studies, in this paper, the author proposed a recognition method of broiler overlapping sounds based on random forest and confidence interval. The author newly defined the confidence rate, confidence interval and recognition error, and combined Random-Forest-based classifier (abbr. RF classifier) to realize the recognition of overlapping sounds in a fixed-duration broiler sound signal. In the research phase, the PXI-1050 model audio collection system was used to collect a large number of broiler sound signals, whereby multiple datasets corresponding to different sound types and overlapping sounds were established, and corresponding multiple first confidence rates were calculated. First, by analyzing the value interval of the first confidence rate of four sound types, including the cough, the crow, the purr and the flapping wing, respectively, the common value interval of the single sound type was obtained as [0.8, 1]. Second, by analyzing the value interval of the first confidence rate of the six sound type combinations in the double overlapping sounds, the common value interval of the double overlapping sounds was obtained as [0.45, 0.6]. On this basis, the overlapping interval was determined as [0, 0.7), and the pure interval was determined as [0.7, 1]. Then, by analyzing the value interval of the first confidence rate of four sound type combinations in the triple overlapping sounds, the common value interval of the triple overlapping sounds was obtained as [0.35, 0.45]. Therefore, within the overlapping interval, [0,0.35) was determined as the value interval of quadruple overlapping sounds, [0.35,0.45) was determined as the value interval of triple overlapping sounds, and [0.45,0.7) was determined as the value interval of double overlapping sounds. Finally, general procedure steps of the broiler overlapping sound recognition method used in the test phase was given. Multiple test results show that, for the recognition of sound types and overlapping sounds in broiler sound signals, the average recognition accuracy was 100%. For the recognition of overlapping degrees, the average recognition accuracy was 97.22%. For the recognition of sound type combinations, the average recognition error was 2.27%. It fully proves the good generalization effect of the method proposed in this paper, as well as its high practicability and robustness in practical tests. It is an important supplement to the existing broiler health monitoring study. This paper examines the experiences of adolescents from mixed migratory status families affected by deportation. We analyze the impacts on their mental and emotional health when they are separated from one parent in the United States, forcibly displaced with another to Oaxaca, and experience the consequences of their deportation in Mexico. We use a qualitative and ethnographic methodology. This paper focuses on data from semi-structured interviews and focus groups with 15 parents who had been deported from the United States and 53 adolescents who moved with them to Mexico. The data was collected between 2018 and 2020. The main findings show the existence of emotions that are sustained in the transnational flow and acquire new nuances upon return. They also show the emergence of new conditions related to family separation, all of which have an impact on the adolescents' well-being and on important areas of their lives, such as education. The research contributes to knowledge in two main ways: 1) it addresses the impacts of parental deportation on the well-being of adolescents in mixed-status families, which have typically focused on children; 2) it studies how parental deportation affects the mental and emotional health of adolescents de facto deported to Mexico, a field still little studied. • De facto deportation has mental health consequences among adolescents. • The forced nature of de facto deportation produces helplessness, aggression and anger. • The code of silence associated with deportation generates fear, stress, anxiety. • Ambiguous loss is accentuated at important moments in academic and developmental life. • Family separation and de facto deportation affect school performance. Although randomized interventional studies are the gold standard of clinical study designs, they are not always feasible or necessary. In such cases, observational studies can bring insights into critical questions while minimizing harm and cost. There are numerous observational study designs, each with strengths and demerits. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for observational study designs to be poorly designed or reported. In this article, the authors discuss similarities and differences between observational study designs, their application, and tenets of good use and proper reporting focusing on neurosurgery. The authors illustrated neurosurgical case scenarios to describe case reports, case series, and cohort, cross-sectional, and case-control studies. The study design definitions and applications are taken from seminal research methodology readings and updated observational study reporting guidelines. The authors have given a succinct account of the structure, functioning, and uses of common observational study designs in Neurosurgery. Specifically, they discussed the concepts of study direction, temporal sequence, advantages, and disadvantages. Also, they highlighted the differences between case reports and case series; case series and descriptive cohort studies; and cohort and case-control studies. Also, they discussed their impacts on internal validity, external validity, and relevance. This paper disambiguates widely held misconceptions on the different observational study designs.
