In recent years, the permanent magnet vernier machine (PMVM) has attracted much attention in the research community. Many studies have shown that PMVMs possess superior torque density and are suitable for high-torque and low-speed applications. Some of them compared PMVMs with the direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs), but these studies focused mainly on sub-kW power levels. There is little work in the literature that conducted the comprehensive evaluation of PMVM technology for more specific applications. This article presents the design optimization of a 15-kW surface-mounted PMVM and its comparison with an equivalent conventional PMSM for wind generator applications. It attempts to objectively weigh the relative merits of the two wind generator systems and outline their respective advantages and disadvantages. For validation purposes, an optimally designed 15-kW PMVM was constructed and experimentally evaluated, which is one of the largest PMVM prototypes ever reported in the literature. Oscillating water column (OWC) device is one of the most promising wave energy converters (WECs). Besides the energy conversion efficiency, the survivability should also be considered for a design purpose in the process of wave energy exploitation. In the present study, by introducing the artificial viscous terms into the dynamic free surface boundary condition and Bernoulli equation, a fully nonlinear numerical model based on higher-order boundary element method (HOBEM) is adopted to model the wave dynamics of an OWC device. The viscosity effects on the wave force (i.e., Δ F) is investigated by comparing the predicted wave force by the numerical model with and without these viscous terms. The effects of the chamber geometry parameters, such as front wall draft, chamber width and opening ratio (i.e., air orifice width), on Δ F are investigated. The results indicate that the viscosity effect on the wave force on the seaside surface of the front wall is larger than that on its shoreside surface. The viscosity effect on the total horizontal wave force on the front wall increases with the increase of front wall draft in some extent. The influence of the viscosity on the horizontal wave force increases with opening ratio decreasing due to the increasing air pressure inside the chamber. • The viscosity effect on the wave dynamics of an OWC device is systemically studied. • Viscosity affects more on the wave force on the seaside surface than the other surface of the front wall. • Viscosity effect on the wave force is much influenced by the OWC chamber geometry. Biofilm formation by Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella enterica at meat processing plants poses a potential risk of meat product contamination. Many common sanitizers are unable to completely eradicate biofilms formed by these foodborne pathogens because of the three-dimensional biofilm structure and the presence of bacterial extracellular polymeric substances (EPSs). A novel multifaceted approach combining multiple chemical reagents with various functional mechanisms was used to enhance the effectiveness of biofilm control. We tested a multicomponent sanitizer consisting of a quaternary ammonium compound (QAC), hydrogen peroxide, and the accelerator diacetin for its effectiveness in inactivating and removing Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella enterica biofilms under meat processing conditions. E. coli O157:H7 and Salmonella biofilms on common contact surfaces were treated with 10, 20, or 100% concentrations of the multicomponent sanitizer solution for 10 min, 1 h, or 6 h, and log reductions in biofilm mass were measured. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to directly observe the effect of sanitizer treatment on biofilm removal and bacterial morphology. After treatment with the multicomponent sanitizer, viable E. coli O157:H7 and Salmonella biofilm cells were below the limit of detection, and the prevalence of both pathogens was low. After treatment with a QAC-based control sanitizer, surviving bacterial cells were countable, and pathogen prevalence was higher. SEM analysis of water-treated control samples revealed the three-dimensional biofilm structure with a strong EPS matrix connecting bacteria and the contact surface. Treatment with 20% multicomponent sanitizer for 10 min significantly reduced biofilm mass and weakened the EPS connection. The majority of the bacterial cells had altered morphology and compromised membrane integrity. Treatment with 100% multicomponent sanitizer for 10 min dissolved the EPS matrix, and no intact biofilm structure was observed; instead, scattered clusters of bacterial aggregates were detected, indicating the loss of cell viability and biofilm removal. These results indicate that the multicomponent sanitizer is effective, even after short exposure with dilute concentrations, against E. coli O157:H7 and S. enterica biofilms. No viable biofilm cells were detected after treatment with the multicomponent sanitizer. Prevalence of both pathogens was low after treatment with the multicomponent sanitizer. Human adenovirus serotype 7 (HAdV-7), belonging to species B, has caused severe lower respiratory tract diseases and even deaths recently. However, no adenovirus vaccine or therapeutic is available thus far. In this study, a HAdV-7-specific human monoclonal antibody (HMAb), 3-3E, isolated from single plasma cells obtained from the peripheral blood mononuclear cells of HAdV-7-infected patients showed potent HAdV-7 neutralization activity. The results showed HMAb 3-3E only binds to the hexon protein of intact HAdV-7 or the recombinant hexon protein and it does not bind to other intact virion particles. This could mean the antibody recognizes a conformational epitope of the hexon protein. Further, HMAb 3-3E potently neutralized HAdV-7 in vitro at low concentrations. In vivo studies showed HMAb 3-3E protected from HAdV-7 infection in a murine model. • Surface modification of 40CrMn steel by multi-pass scanning electron beam process was the first time. • The ring scanning method was conducted during continuous electron beam treatment. • Compared with the single-pass，the surface microhardness under multi-pass electron beam treatment decreased slightly. • The wear resistance after single-pass and multi-pass treatment improved compared to the the untreated samples. Single-pass and multi-pass electron beam surface modification (EBSM) are two of the most important scanning method in the field of electron beam processing. In this paper, microstructure evolution and surface properties of 40CrMn steel treated by multi-pass and single-pass EBSM are compared. It is found that there is obvious difference in microstructure evolution of the treated samples after two scanning modes of electron beam treatment due to these region experienced different thermal circles processes. Moreover, the slight difference in surface microhardness of specimens after single-pass and multi-pass electron beam treatment are supposed to be caused by the formation of tempered martensite and tempered sorbite in the overlap region after multi-pass electron beam treatment. Trehalose-6-phosphate synthase (TPS) is a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of trehalose, with its direct product, trehalose-6-phosphate, playing important roles in regulating whole-plant carbohydrate allocation and utilization. Genes encoding TPS constitute a multigene family in which functional divergence appears to have occurred repeatedly. To identify the crucial evolutionary amino acid sites of TPS in higher plants, a series of bioinformatics tools were applied to investigate the phylogenetic relationships, functional divergence, positive selection, and co-evolution of TPS proteins. First, we identified 150 TPS genes from 13 higher plant species. Phylogenetic analysis placed these TPS proteins into 2 clades: clades A and B, of which clade B could be further divided into 4 subclades (B1-B4). This classification was supported by the intron-exon structures, with more introns present in clade A. Next, detection of the critical functionally divergent amino acid sites resulted in the isolation of a total of 286 sites reflecting nonredundant radical shifts in amino acid properties with a high posterior probability cutoff among subclades. In addition, positively selected sites were identified using a codon substitution model, from which 46 amino acid sites were isolated as exhibiting positive selection at a significant level. Moreover, 18 amino acid sites were highlighted both for functional divergence and positive selection; these may thus potentially represent crucial evolutionary sites in the TPS family. Further co-evolutionary analysis revealed 3 pairs of sites: 11S and 12H, 33S and 34N, and 109G and 110E as demonstrating co-evolution. Finally, the 18 crucial evolutionary amino acid sites were mapped in the 3-dimensional structure. A total of 77 sites harboring functionally and structurally important residues of TPS proteins were found by using the CLIPS-4D online tool; notably, no overlap was observed with the identified crucial evolutionary sites, providing positive evidence supporting their designation. A total of 18 sites were isolated as key amino acids by using multiple bioinformatics tools based on their concomitant functional divergence and positive selection. Almost all these key sites are located in 2 domains of this protein family where they exhibit no overlap with the structurally and functionally conserved sites. These results will provide an improved understanding of the complexity of the TPS gene family and of its function and evolution in higher plants. Combinatorial t‐designs have wide applications in coding theory, cryptography, communications, and statistics. It is well known that the supports of all codewords with a fixed weight in a code may give a t‐design. In this paper, we first determine the weight distributions of a class of linear codes derived from the dual of some extended cyclic codes. We then obtain infinite families of 2‐designs and explicitly compute their parameters from the supports of all the codewords with a fixed weight in the codes. In order to study the remediation effect of heavily contaminated sediments, the experiments to repair heavily contaminated sediments were carried out under selective and nonselective oxidation conditions. Results showed that a lot of denitrifying bacteria was detected on the surface of modified zeolite by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) after inoculating both nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria for 7 days. Up to 3.69 mg/g, in-situ regeneration of ammonium on zeolite loading with high ammonium (ammonium adsorption: 4.20 m/g) was obtained, which was 1.42 times that of nonselective oxidation (2.60 mg/g). This indicated that the in-situ regeneration rate of zeolite under high ammonium adsorption (5.0 mg/g) and high bacterial inoculum (80 mL/g) was enhanced. Moreover, only 1.50 mg/L total nitrogen with 84% inhibition in the overlying water under selective oxidation conditions was observed, which was 2.37 times the inhibition percentage of modified zeolite under nonselective oxidation conditions. The results illuminated that effective inhibition of ammonium released from heavily contaminated sediments can be achieved through selective oxidation with zeolite layer. At the same time, the in-situ service life of attached biofilm-modified zeolite under selective oxidation conditions was 5.87 years, which was extended by 3 years compared with nonselective oxidation conditions. Based on the data of China's ecological environment from 2006 to 2018, the paper uses the super-efficiency DEA and Malmquist index methods to evaluate China's ecological welfare performance from a static and dynamic perspective. Based on this, the Theil index is used to analyze the group's ecological welfare performance. The internal and intergroup differences show that, from the static evaluation results, China's ecological welfare performance is in a situation of "high in the east, low in the west, and average in the central region." There is not much difference between the eastern and central regions, while the ecological welfare performance in the western region is low. From the results of dynamic evaluation, the overall level of regional ecological welfare performance in China has improved in recent years, and the average Malmquist index has exceeded 1, indicating that the growth pattern of ecological welfare performance has shifted to high quality, but the degree of increase in each region is different. There is still much room for improvement in ecological welfare performance; from the perspective of intragroup and intergroup differences, the intragroup differences and intergroup differences in the three major regions have generally maintained a continuous downward trend, and the contribution of the differences in ecowelfare performance between group rate has a clear advantage. A new macluravirus infecting Pinellia ternata in China was identified by high-throughput sequencing (HTS) and tentatively named "crow-dipper mosaic-associated virus" (CrdMV). The complete genome sequence of CrdMV was determined by reverse transcription (RT) PCR and rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) PCR. The genomic RNA of CrdMV consists of 8,454 nucleotides (nt), excluding the poly(A) tail at the 3′ end. CrdMV has a genomic structure typical of macluraviruses, with large open reading frame encoding a polyprotein of 2,696 amino acids (aa). CrdMV shares 54.40%–59.37% nt sequence identity at the genome sequence level, 48.00%–58.58% aa sequence identity, at the polyprotein sequence level and 37.27%–49.22% aa sequence identity at the CP sequence level with other members of the genus Macluravirus. These values are well below the species demarcation threshold for the family Potyviridae. Phylogenetic analysis based on the amino acid sequences of polyproteins confirmed that CrdMV clusters closely with broad-leafed dock virus A (BDVA, GenBank accession no. KU053507). In this article, a miniaturized dual-band dual-polarized slot antenna array is proposed for base station applications. It consists of two closely located $1 \times 4$ subarrays for the digital cellular system (DCS) and wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) operations. The band-notched slot antenna (BNSA) is designed and adopted as the subarray element with radiation-suppression characteristic at notch frequencies. The notch frequency for one subarray is designed at the center operating frequency of the other subarray. As a result, the radiation from DCS subarray could be effectively suppressed within the WCDMA band and vice versa, resulting in high isolation between two subarrays with a small separation distance. By using the artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) reflector, the array height could be reduced by half, as compared with the perfect electric conductor (PEC) counterpart. In addition, a four-way unequal power divider is designed for the array’s beam-pattern synthesis. For the demonstration, the proposed array is fabricated and measured. The measurement results show that the dual-band array achieves the impedance bandwidths of 1.65–1.88 and 1.89–2.22 GHz, the isolations over 25 dB, the realized boresight gains of 12.2–12.8 and 12.3–13.2 dBi, and the sidelobe levels below −18 dB. As the labeled samples of hyperspectral image (HSI) are very scarce and labeling sample costs too much time and is expensive, semi-supervised learning (SSL) has an important application in hyperspectral image (HSI) classification. Among SSL approaches, graph-based SSL (GSSL) model has recently attracted much attention. However, most GSSL methods still can not deal with the large HSI as their high computational complexity. In this letter, we propose a novel approach, called fast semi-supervised learning with anchor graph (FSSLAG) to solve the large HSI classification problem. In the proposed FSSLAG algorithm, the anchor graph, which is parameter-free, naturally sparse and scale invariant, is first constructed. Then the label of samples can be inferred through the graph. The computational complexity of FSSLAG can be reduced to O (ndm), which is a significant improvement compared with traditional graph-based SSL methods that need O (n 3), where n, d and m are the number of samples, features and anchors, respectively. We designed this study to assess if surgical safety can be improved by intraoperative use of intraocular lens (IOL) for cataract phacoemulsification. We performed phacoemulsification cataract removal on 401 patients. We randomly assigned these patients into three groups: the standard setting (Group I, n = 134), with reduced vacuum and flow rate (Group II, n = 137), and with IOL insertion before the last quadrant was emulsified with standard setting (Group III, n = 130). The primary outcomes included the risk of posterior capsular rupture (PCR), ultrasound time, energy, and complications. The secondary outcomes included central corneal thickness (CCT), CCT changes, endothelial cells (ETC) counting, ETC loss, and the best corrected distance visual acuity (BCVA) measured on day 1, day 7 and day 30. If PCR occurred, we emulsified the residual lens materials after insertion of IOL and clean of the prolapsed vitreous. We found that the risk of PCR in Group III (0/130) was lower than Group I (9/134, corrected relative risk (RR) = 18.44, 95% CI: 1.08–313.56) and Group II (3/137, corrected RR = 6.64, 95% CI: 0.35–27.41). Group III showed better BCVA on day 1 and 7, less ECC loss on day 7 and 30, and less CCT increase on day 1 and 7. No cases converted to extracapsular cataract extraction. No residual lens materials misdirected into vitreous cavity. Intraoperative use of IOL can improve surgical safety for dense cataract phacoemulsification. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Blocking the migration of regulatory T cells (Tregs) to the tumor microenvironment is a promising strategy for tumor immunotherapy. Treg accumulation in the leukemic hematopoietic microenvironment (LHME) has adverse impacts on patient outcomes. The mechanism and effective methods of disrupting Treg accumulation in the LHME have not been well established. Here, we studied the distribution and characteristics of Tregs in the LHME, investigated the effects of Treg ablation on leukemia progression, explored the mechanisms leading to Treg accumulation, and studied whether blocking Treg migration to the LHME delayed leukemia progression in MLL-AF9-induced mouse acute myeloid leukemia (AML) models using wildtype (WT) and Foxp3DTR/GFP mice. Increased accumulation of more activated Tregs was detected in the LHME. Inducible Treg ablation prolonged the survival of AML mice by promoting the antileukemic effects of CD8+ T cells. Furthermore, both local expansion and migration accounted for Treg accumulation in the LHME. Moreover, blocking the CCL3-CCR1/CCR5 and CXCL12-CXCR4 axes inhibited Treg accumulation in the LHME and delayed leukemia progression. Regional higher education growth in non-federal states has not attracted much academic attention. This paper is one of the first attempts to explore China's latest higher education expansion and its systematic and regional impact from the perspective of multi-level governance. This article argues that the state had explicitly utilized the Commanding Heights Strategy to diffuse the higher education authority to sub-national level and promote regional growth. The Central authorities allowed the Ministry of Education establishing a vertical elite coalition to command the heights of tertiary institutional hierarchy and key resources for tertiary development. In addition, the state used both financial incentives and sectoral incentives to mobilize resources for regional expansion. The Commanding Heights Strategy shapes China's response to the higher education trilemma of costs, access, and quality. Under this strategy, the unprecedented tertiary expansion has expanded college access, but at the expense of affordability, quality, and a large and increasing regional variation. Objective: Prediction of acute renal failure (ARF) and paraplegia after thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair (TAAAR) is helpful for decision-making during the postoperative phase. To find a more efficient method for making a prediction, we performed tests on the efficacy of different machine learning predicting models.Methods: Perioperative TAAAR data were retrospectively collected from Beijing Anzhen Hospital and Shanghai DeltaHealth Hospital. Operations were conducted under normothermia using a four-branched graft. Four commonly used machine learning classification models (ie, logistic regression, linear and Gaussian kernel support vector machine, and random forest) were chosen to predict ARF and paraplegia separately. The efficacy of the models was validated by five-fold cross-validation.Results: From 2009 to 2017, 212 TAAARs were performed. ARF was identified in 27 patients, and paraplegia was found in 18 patients. Five-fold cross-validation showed that among the four classification models, random forest was the most precise model for predicting ARF, with an average area under the curve (AUC) of 0.89 ± 0.08. Linear support vector machine was the most precise model for predicting paraplegia, with an average AUC of 0.89 ± 0.18. The prediction program has been uploaded to GitHub for open access.Conclusion: Machine learning models can precisely predict ARF and paraplegia during early stages after surgery. The analysis of punctuation in philology is mainly carried out with a view to better understand the meaning of the literature concerned. Punctuation is generally believed to play the role of 'assisting the written language in indicating those elements of speech that cannot be conveniently set down on paper: chiefly the pause, pitch and stress in speech' (Markwardt, 1942: 156). Most of us often ignore the importance of punctuation in writing systems and tend to believe that punctuation only depends on tradition and the personal styles of writers. In fact, punctuation marks may contribute significantly to the clarity of expression. Many linguists associate punctuation with intonation, but the truth is more complex than that – punctuation marks may affect orthography, morphology, syntactic relations, semantic information, and can even influence textual structure. A 23–30-GHz gallium nitride (GaN) low-noise amplifier (LNA) with a noise figure (NF) of 0.87–1.51 dB is presented in this article. This LNA was fabricated with 100-nm gate-length GaN-on-silicon (GaN/Si) microwave monolithic integrated circuit (MMIC) process. The linear gain is 14–17 dB within the band. For investigating the robustness of this LNA, 1-W continuous wave (CW) at 27 GHz was stressed on the input port of the LNA. The gain decreased, and the NF increased after stress. Experimental research and first-principles calculations were carried out to investigate the physical origin of the degradation. The dehydrogenation of VGa-H3 complexes causes the decrease of gain, and the creation of VAl-H4 in the AlN barrier is supposed to cause an increase of NF. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To shed light on the underlying mechanisms of the relationship between purchase type and well‐being (including hedonic and eudaimonic well‐being), this study explored the mediating roles of both postpurchase sharing and relatedness need satisfaction in a Chinese sample. In the current study, participants were required to recall an impressive past purchase and report the level of postpurchase sharing, relatedness need satisfaction, and well‐being experienced after the purchase. The results indicated that (a) participants in the experiential purchase group reported higher levels of both hedonic and eudaimonic well‐being than did those in the material purchase group, and (b) postpurchase sharing and relatedness need satisfaction sequentially mediated the relationship between purchase type and well‐being. Specifically, individuals were more willing to share with others after experiential purchases than after material ones. Therefore, in turn, they experienced higher levels of relatedness need satisfaction, which was conducive to higher levels of both hedonic and eudaimonic well‐being. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, silver nanoparticles/sulfonated polystyrene (Ag/SPS) composite microspheres were synthesized by using sulfonated polystyrene microspheres (SPS) as carriers and loaded with silver nanoparticles on its surface. The composite microspheres were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, XRD spectroscopy and thermogravimetry. The results showed that at 70 °C and reaction time of 8 h, the monodispersity of Ag/SPS composite microspheres prepared by chemical reduction method was good and the silver nanoparticles were uniformly coated. The results of catalytic reduction of methylene blue showed that in a certain range, the higher the silver content of the composite microspheres, the faster the catalytic rate. • The surface modification of 40CrMn steel is carried out by continuous scanning electron beam process. • The method of ring scanning surface treatment by continuous electron beam is proposed. • Explore the effects of process parameters on surface morphology, microstructure, microhardness and wear resistance. • The mechanical properties of 40CrMn steel were improved significantly after electron beam treatment. Continuous scanning electron beam process (CSEBP) was conducted on 40CrMn steel to enhance its mechanical properties. The influence of electron beam process parameters on the surface microstructures and mechanical properties of 40CrMn steel was investigated. The result shows that the cross-section of the sample after CSEBP contained three districts as follows: melted layer, heated affected zone and substrate. At a beam current of 5 mA, the surface microhardness increased from 309.7 HV to 692.8 HV, which was in 2.34 times of the substrate hardness. Additionally, the surface microhardness decreased nonlinearly with the increase of electron gun moving speed. At a moving speed of 120 mm/min, the surface microhardness reached a maximum value of 666.2 HV. At a moving speed of 300 mm/min, the surface roughness reduced from 1.754 μm to 0.801 μm. Solid‐state acid‐responsive materials are promising for the tunability of their intrinsic properties. However, the relationship between molecular structure and emission shift as a response to acid stimuli has not been systematically studied. Herein, we report the effect of protonation and subsequent intramolecular hydrogen bonding on the photophysical properties of compounds (MPP‐s, MPP‐d, and MPP‐d‐CN) with different conjugation modes between the electron‐donating dimethoxyl phenyl and the electron‐withdrawing benzothiazole ring. The results established that the stronger the intramolecular charge transfer feature of the compound, the smaller is the emission shift after acid stimuli. Our studies also indicated that the conjugation mode significantly affected the solid‐state packing mode: MPP‐s and MPP‐d tended to form dimers, while MPP‐d‐CN exhibited the strongest aggregation‐induced emission enhancement (AIEE). The exploration of structure‐property relationship would provide experimental and theoretical guidance in designing acid‐responsive molecular switches and developing high‐performance AIEE‐active luminogens. 1. Overexpression of P-glycoprotein (P-gp, encoded by MDR1) mediates resistance to multiple immunosuppressors. Several common MDR1 variants (1236C > T, 2677G > T, 3435C > T) impact the efflux activity of P-gp-mediated substrates. We assessed the effect of these polymorphisms on the sensitivity, intracellular accumulation, and efflux of tacrolimus, cyclosporine A, sirolimus and everolimus in transfected LLC-PK1 cells. 2. LLC-PK1 cell lines were transfected with empty vector (pcDNA3.1) and recombinant MDR1T-T-T, MDR1C-T-T, MDR1C-G-T and MDR1C-G-C vectors, respectively and further screened in the presence of puromycin. The IC50 values, intracellular accumulation, and apparent permeability ratios of tacrolimus, cyclosporine A, sirolimus and everolimus were evaluated. 3. MDR1 overexpression increased the resistance of LLC-PK1 cells to tacrolimus, cyclosporine A, sirolimus and everolimus. The resistance of cells expressing MDR1C-G-C wild-type haplotypes to tacrolimus were increased compared to MDR1T-T-T, MDR1C-T-T, MDR1C-G-T variant haplotypes. The efflux ability of P-gp-mediated tacrolimus in cells transfected with MDR1C-G-C was higher than cells overexpressing MDR1T-T-T, MDR1C-T-T, MDR1C-G-T variant haplotypes. In addition, the resistance of cells expressing MDR1C-G-C wild-type haplotypes to sirolimus were increased compared to MDR1C-T-T, MDR1C-G-T variant haplotypes. The efflux ability of P-gp-mediated sirolimus in cells overexpressing MDR1C-G-C was higher than cells transfected with MDR1C-T-T, MDR1C-G-T variant haplotypes. 4. These findings indicate that wild-type MDR1 exports tacrolimus and sirolimus more efficiency than the MDR1T-T-T, MDR1C-T-T, MDR1C-G-T variant protein. This observation indicates that 1236C > T, 2677G > T, 3435C > T variant haplotypes drastically decrease the efflux ability of P-gp-mediated tacrolimus and sirolimus in a substrate-specific manner. Cyclic guanosine monophosphate-adenosine monophosphate synthase (cGAS) is a newly identified cytosolic DNA sensor, but its function in lung epithelial cells is relatively unknown. In the present study, the effects of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on the expression and function of cGAS in the A549 lung epithelial cell line was investigated. The cells were treated with LPS at different concentrations (e.g., 100, 200, 400 and 800 ng/ml), and the cGAS expression levels were examined via western blot analysis and reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). The cells were pretreated with LPS, followed by E. coli DNA transfection using Lipofectamine® 3000. After 24 h, interferon (IFN)-β production was measured using ELISA and the expression of the autophagic markers, microtubule-associated proteins 1A/1B light chain 3 and sequestosome-1, were determined using western blot analysis. The cells were also pretreated with either a toll-like receptor (TLR) 4 inhibitor, a serine/threonine-protein kinase TBK1 (TBK1) inhibitor or an nuclear factor (NF)-κB inhibitor, followed by LPS treatment, and the cGAS expression levels were examined via western blot analysis and RT-qPCR. The result showed that LPS treatment upregulated cGAS expression in a dose-dependent manner. E. coli DNA treatment could induce IFN-β production and autophagy via cGAS, which was enhanced by LPS pretreatment. The effect of LPS on cGAS expression was suppressed by treatment with a TLR4 inhibitor, a TBK1 inhibitor and an NF-κB inhibitor. In conclusion, LPS enhances DNA-induced IFN-β production and autophagy by upregulating cGAS expression through the myeloid differentiation primary response protein MyD88-independent TLR4 signaling pathway in A549 cells. Lake biodiversity is an incomplete indicator of exogenous forcing insofar as it ignores underlying deformations of community structure. Here, we seek a proxy for deformation in a network of diatom assemblages comprising 452 species in 273 lakes across China. We test predictions from network theory that nodes of similar type will tend to self‐organize in an unstressed system to a positively skewed frequency distribution of nodal degree. The empirical data reveal shifts in the frequency distributions of species associations across regions, from positive skew in lakes in west China with a history of low human impacts, to predominantly negative skew amongst lakes in highly disturbed regions in east China. Skew values relate strongly to nutrient loading from agricultural activity and urbanization, as measured by total phosphorus in lake water. Reconstructions through time show that positive skew reduces with temporal intensification of human impacts in the lake and surrounding catchments, and rises as lakes recover from disturbance. Oxaliplatin (OXL) is a third-generation chemotherapeutic agent commonly used to treat metastatic digestive tumors, but one of the main limiting complications of OXL is painful peripheral neuropathy. The present study was to examine the inhibitory effects of blocking microRNA-155 (miR-155) in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord on neuropathic pain induced by OXL in rats and the underlying mechanisms. Behavioral test was performed to examine mechanical pain and cold sensitivity in rats. Real-time RT-PCR and ELISA were employed to determine miR-155 and products of oxidative stress 8-isoprostaglandin F2α (8-iso PGF2α) and 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) in the dorsal horn. Western blot analysis was used to examine expression of Nrf2-antioxidant response element (Nrf2-ARE), NADPH oxidases (NOXs), and transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1). In results, intrathecal administration of miR-155 inhibitor attenuated mechanical allodynia and cold hyperalgesia in rats with OXL therapy and this was accompanied with restoring of impaired Nrf2-ARE in the dorsal horn. A blockade of miR-155 also attenuated expression of NOX subtype 4 (NOX4) and thereby decreased the levels of 8-iso PGF2α/8-OHdG in the dorsal horn of OXL rats. In addition, inhibiting NOX4 decreased products of oxidative stress in the dorsal horn and attenuated upregulation of TRPA1 induced by OXL. In conclusion, data show the critical role of miR-155 in regulating OXL-induced neuropathic pain likely via oxidative stress–TRPA1 signal pathway, indicating that inhibition of miR-155 has potential benefits in preventing neuropathic pain development during intervention of OXL. Hyperspectral image (HSI) clustering is very important in remote sensing applications. However, most graph-based clustering models are not suitable for dealing with large HSI due to their computational bottlenecks: the construction of the similarity matrix $\boldsymbol {W}$ , the eigenvalue decomposition of the graph Laplacian matrix $\boldsymbol {L}$ , and $k$ -means or other discretization procedures. To solve this problem, we propose a novel approach, scalable graph-based clustering with nonnegative relaxation (SGCNR), to cluster the large HSI. The proposed SGCNR algorithm first constructs an anchor graph and then adds the nonnegative relaxation term. With this, the computational complexity can be reduced to $O(nd\log m+nK^{2}+nKc+K^{3})$ , compared with traditional graph-based clustering algorithms that need at least $O(n^{2}d+n^{2}K)$ or $O(n^{2}d+n^{3})$ , where $n$ , $d$ , $m$ , $K$ , and $c$ are, respectively, the number of samples, features, anchors, classes, and nearest neighbors. In addition, the SGCNR algorithm can directly obtain the clustering indicators, without resort to $k$ -means or other discretization procedures as traditional graph-based clustering algorithms have to do. One new flavonoid derivative flavoside A (1), one new 5-hydroxyanthranilic acid derivative crassilin (2), along with the known angucyclinone PD116740 (3) and oxachelin (4), was isolated from the EtOAc extract of the fermentation broth of the sea urchin (Anthocidaris crassispina)-derived actinobacterium, Streptomyces sp. HD01. The structures of these compounds were established on the basis of their HR-ESI-MS and NMR spectroscopic data. All of these compounds were assessed for their antibacterial activity. In this paper, a GdBaCo2O5+δ–Ce0.8Sm0.2O1.9 (GBCO–SDC) composite cathode was prepared by the impregnation method with GdBaCo2O5+δ (GBCO) as the impregnating phase and Ce0.8Sm0.2O1.9 (SDC) as the cathode skeleton. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed a good chemical compatibility between GBCO and SDC, and there were no obvious impurities at high temperature. The particle size of GBCO was approximately 80 nm. The continuous GBCO phase was deposited on the surface of porous SDC backbones, which greatly improved the electrochemical activity of the cathode. The polarization resistance of GBCO–SDC-impregnated cathode was 0.50 Ω cm2 at 600 °C, which was only ~ 28.6% of that of pure GBCO cathode. The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) at GBCO cathode mainly involved the adsorption–dissociation of oxygen molecules and charge-transfer process of oxygen atoms. The two ORR rate-controlling steps were the adsorption–dissociation process at 500–600 °C and the charge-transfer processes at 600–700 °C, respectively. The oxygen reduction reaction at GBCO–SDC-impregnated cathode mainly involved the diffusion of oxygen ions through the three phase boundaries and the charge transfer of oxygen atoms, in which the charge-transfer process was always the ORR rate-controlling step. The origin of the threshold voltage (Vth) shift that occurs in ON-state biased AlGaN/GaN high-electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) is proposed in terms of experimental researches and first-principles calculations. Experimentally, ∼20% negative shift of the Vth is found for the 0.2 μm gate length T-gate AlGaN/GaN HEMT under the ON-state stress. 1/f noise measurements are carried out to investigate the evolution of defect distribution in the GaN channel, which indicates that the Vth shift is accompanied by the diminishing of the defect level of Ev + 0.8 eV. Combined with first-principles studies based on hybrid functionals defect calculations, we find that the defect evolution of O from negatively charged VGa-ON to neutral ON-H gives rise to the decrease in acceptors in the GaN channel and thus the negative shift of Vth. Our work indicates that the strengthening of oxygen-related defects in GaN during material growth and device fabrication would improve the reliability of AlGaN/GaN HEMTs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

There is no doubt that the diversity and stability of freshwater ecosystems have suffered dramatic changes as a result of intensified human activities. However, the relationship between community diversity and stability is still debated. In this study, we used biological and geochemical records from the recent sediments of two lakes to test the hypothesis that different aspects of the diversity of the chironomid community have different relationships with community stability. Yangzong Lake (YZ) and Chenghai Lake (CH) are large and deep alpine lakes in SW China. We conducted a multi-proxy study of the sedimentary records spanning the last 200 years from the two lakes. Our focus was on subfossil chironomid remains, but analyses of chemical elements, total organic carbon (TOC) and total nitrogen (TN) were also conducted. The principal results are as follows: 1) Both nutrient and chironomid assemblages underwent a critical transition in 1990 at YZ and in 1998 at CH. 2) The response of species richness varied between the two lakes, but the trends of their respective β diversity indices are consistent, despite the fact that the contributors to β diversity are different. 3) The stability of the chironomid communities has decreased in both lakes since the mid-20th century. 4) The relationship between diversity and stability varies in relation to the type of diversity. Overall, our results emphasize the importance of considering the complex nature of diversity and stability when studying community assemblages. We report a FeW mixed composite for oxygen evolution reaction with a low overpotential and a long-term stability. A structural transformation of FeW oxide occurs during the OER process. The hierarchical modular organization of functional networks in the brain is crucial for supporting diverse cognitive functions. Functional disorders in the brain are associated with an abnormal hierarchical modular organization. The default mode network (DMN) is a complex dynamic network that is linked to specialized cognitive functions and clinically relevant information. In this study, we hypothesize that hierarchical functional segregation and integration of the DMN within attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is abnormal. We investigated topological metrics of both segregation and integration in different hierarchical subnetworks of the DMN between patients with ADHD and healthy controls. We found that the hierarchical functional integration and segregation of the DMN decreased and increased, respectively, in ADHD. Our results also indicated that the abnormalities in the DMN are intrinsically caused by changes in functional segregation and integration in its higher-level subnetworks. To better understand the temporally dynamic changes in the hierarchical functional integration and segregation of the DMN within ADHD, we further analyzed the dynamic transitions between functional segregation and integration. We found that the adaptive reorganizational ability of brain network states decreased in ADHD patients, which indicated less adaptive regulation between the DMN subnetworks in ADHD for supporting correspondingly normal cognitive function. From the perspective of hierarchical functional segregation and integration, our results further provide evidence to support dysfunctional brain cognitive functions within ADHD linked to brain network segregation and integration. Biochar (BC) is one of the most remarkable materials for environmental remediation. An increasing number of researchers have attempted to utilize BC as a catalyst to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) and sulfate radicals. This work focuses on the development and progress of BC-based catalysts in different systems, including redox systems, Fenton-like systems, sonocatalytic systems and photocatalytic systems. Most importantly, the catalytic performance and mechanism of different types of BC-based catalysts are thoroughly investigated. Furthermore, the applications of BC-based catalysts in wastewater, sediments, soil and gas are presented. Special attention is paid to the factors involved in the generation of ROS and sulfate radicals, such as oxygen-containing functional groups (OFGs), persistent free radicals (PFRs) and redox properties. The generation processes of ROS and sulfate radicals are presented in detail. And the removal pathways of three mechanisms are elaborated. Furthermore, research in this field is still at an early stage, and many improvements are required before the technology can be efficiently scaled up and put into practice. This review enriches the knowledge about the generation processes of ROS and sulfate radicals by BC-based catalysts and improves the understanding of the catalytic performance and catalytic mechanism of BC-based catalysts for pollutants. Background: Abnormalities of iron metabolism in pregnancy pose risks for maternal and fetal health. Robust reference intervals for iron metabolism indices have not been established in a pregnant Chinese population. The purpose of this study was to derive reference intervals for indices of iron metabolism during pregnancy in a Chinese population. Methods: A total of 360 healthy pregnant women were recruited and divided into three groups of 120 by gestational age: first trimester (1–13 weeks), second trimester (14–27 weeks) and third trimester (≥28 weeks). An additional 120 healthy non-pregnant women were recruited as the non-pregnant control group. Serum ferritin was measured by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay. Serum iron and total iron-binding capacity were measured by a direct bathophenanthroline method. Transferrin saturation value was calculated with formula TS = SI/TIBC. The reference intervals were established using a non-parametric method. Results: In first and second trimesters (combined), the reference intervals for serum ferritin, serum iron, total iron-binding capacity and transferrin saturation are 14.7–184.3 mg/L, 14.50–33.45 µmol/L, 36.53–68.81 µmol/L and 19.04–64.76%, respectively. In the third trimester, the reference intervals for serum ferritin, serum iron, total iron-binding capacity and transferrin saturation are 7.2–122.2 mg/L, 5.83–21.52 µmol/L, 49.40–122.76 µmol/L and 8.22–52.75%, respectively. Conclusion: The reference intervals for iron metabolism indices for healthy pregnant Chinese women were established in accordance with CLSI C28-A3 guidelines. 1. In clinical practice, diammonium glycyrrhizinate is usually used with omeprazole in patients with viral hepatitis and cirrhosis accompanied by peptic ulcers. However, the drug interaction between diammonium glycyrrhizinate and omeprazole remains unclear. 2. In this study, the effects of diammonium glycyrrhizinate on the pharmacokinetics of omeprazole was investigated by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analytical method. Male Sprague–Dawley rats were randomly assigned to two groups: omeprazole and omeprazole + diammonium glycyrrhizinate, and the main pharmacokinetic parameters were estimated after oral administration. It was found that using the omeprazole along with the diammonium glycyrrhizinate increased the AUC, AUMC, Cmax for omeprazole. 3. For this reason, we used the LC-MS/MS to detect the binding rate of plasma protein (BRPP) of omeprazole in rats, it was found that diammonium glycyrrhizinate could decrease the BRPP in rats. In addition, we found that diammonium glycyrrhizinate specifically inhibited the enzyme activity of the CYP2C19 and CYP3A4, which are involved in the metabolism of the omeprazole. 4. These results mean that diammonium glycyrrhizinate could inhibit the metabolism and increase the plasma concentration of the omeprazole in rats. Overall, diammonium glycyrrhizinate can influence the pharmacokinetics of omeprazole by inhibiting CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 activities and decreasing BRPP of omeprazole. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to evaluate the polymerization kinetics qualitatively and quantitatively for dual-cure bulk-fill composites in comparison with light-cure bulk-fill and traditional incremental composites at two clinically relevant depths. Five commercial dental composites were evaluated, including three dual-cure bulk-fill composites (BulkEZ, HyperFIL and Injectafil), one light-cure bulk-fill composite Filtek Bulk Fill Flowable (FBF) and one traditional incremental composite Filtek Z250 (Z250) as controls. Specimens were prepared in two different depths (0.5 mm and 5 mm) for 20 s light irradiation. Self-cure was also evaluated for the three dual-cure composites. The polymerization kinetics were measured continuously in real-time for at least 10 min using a Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) with an attenuated total reflectance (ATR) accessory. The experimental kinetic data were fitted using two mathematical models — a sigmoidal function and a superposition of two exponential functions characterizing the gel phase and glass phase. The degree of conversion (DC) and the rate of polymerization were calculated for all test conditions. Both experimental FTIR measurements and mathematical modeling revealed distinct depth-related polymerization kinetics for BulkEZ compared to the other two dual-cure composites. Specifically, BulkEZ exhibited moderately-paced polymerization kinetics at both depths while HyperFIL and Injectafil exhibited faster polymerization at 0.5 mm and slower polymerization at 5 mm. The bulk-fill FBF and incremental Z250 exhibited relatively fast polymerization at both depths, a characteristic for light-cure. The DC values at the two depths were not significantly different for BulkEZ, but significantly higher at 0.5 mm than at 5 mm for the other four composites (α = 0.05). Polymerization kinetics and their depth variation for dual-cure bulk-fill composites are material dependent. Ceramic photonic crystals have wide application potentials for THz technology due to their characteristic strong chemical stability and high temperature resistance for demanding environment. However, it is still a challenge to modulate the THz properties of as‐prepared ceramic TPCs via post‐creation treatments to satisfy different application requirements. In this work, the THz properties of rutile TiO2 ceramic 3D‐TPCs were modulated by non‐metal anion doping of either carbon or nitrogen, which was firstly created by the direct‐writing technique with a TiO2 sol‐gel ink followed by the high temperature sintering process at 1200°C. Calcination of the pristine rutile TiO2 ceramic 3D‐TPCs in either CO or NH3 atmosphere successfully doped either C or N dopants into rutile TiO2 ceramic 3D‐TPCs, respectively, which changed their dielectric properties and subsequently induced different THz properties on these ceramic 3D‐TPCs with the same structure. Their THz properties were found to be largely affected by the specific nature of the dopant. Compared with the pristine rutile TiO2 ceramic 3D‐TPC, the bandgap positions of both C‐doped and N‐doped rutile TiO2 ceramic 3D‐TPCs largely shifted toward the higher frequency, while the N‐doped sample demonstrated a much broader bandgap. Co-solvent assisted interfacial polymerization (CAIP) has been widely used to increase the water permeability of thin-film composite (TFC) reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. However, its outcomes are often poorly understood or unpredictable. To bridge the gap between conventional wisdom and the real effects of the co-solvent, we report—for the first time, to the best of our knowledge—empirical evidence in terms of the actual interfacial tension between two immiscible solutions used in CAIP. According to our results, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), which is frequently used as a co-solvent, influences IP by interacting with trimesoyl chloride (TMC). The dipole-dipole interaction between DMSO and TMC was estimated to increase the TMC concentration at the interface and, thereby, the reaction rate. Due to the fast reaction, the diffusion barrier forms quickly, reducing the thickness and roughness of the active layer. The cross-linking degree was also determined to decrease due to the incomplete reaction that occurs when one of three acyl chloride groups interacts with Sδ+−Oδ− electrostatic dipoles of DMSO at the interface, as evidenced by the variation in unreacted acyl chloride groups in the active layer and by the nitrogen/oxygen ratio. Such morphological changes were consistent with the trend in the performances of the RO membranes prepared with different amounts of DMSO, and were used to interpret the possible transport phenomena. Electrocatalytic nitrate reduction to ammonia (NRA) is a promising strategy for restoring the global nitrogen cycle imbalance while opening up a sustainable avenue for ammonia synthesis. However, the ammonia selectivity and Faradaic efficiency (FE) of electrocatalysts are restrained by the multiple complex reactions during the whole electrolysis process. Herein, we synthesized a series of cobalt phosphide nanowire array catalysts with different phosphidation degrees grown on nickel foam (CoP NWAs/NF). An extremely high nitrate conversion rate of 97.9% as well as ammonia selectivity and FE of ∼ 100% were attained by the optimal CoP NWAs/NF-300 in the NRA reaction, which was much superior to those of counterpart Co 3 O 4 NWAs/NF catalyst and reported cobalt-based catalysts. Several control experiments and density functional theory calculations together unveil the dynamic equilibrium of active hydrogen production and consumption, which is conducive to simultaneously obtaining the super selectivity and FE for ammonia synthesis. The photocatalytic membranes have been reported to treat textile dye effluents; however, it is challenging to maintain their long-term functionality due to the poor binding stability of nanoparticles on the membrane surface and the low stability of the membrane to UV radiation. To address this, PVDF photocatalytic hollow fiber membranes were prepared by coating with polydopamine (PDA) for 1–4 h, then with titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO 2) in the current study. SEM and EDX results showed that TiO 2 adhered firmly to the PDA-pretreated membrane after ultrasonic treatment. The PDA layer protected the membranes from UV irradiation. The PVDF-TiO 2 membrane without PDA pretreatment was destroyed after 24 h of UV irradiation, while after 9 days of continuous irradiation, the membranes treated with PDA for 2 h remained unchanged. Compared with the original membrane, applying PVDF membranes coated with PDA for 2 h and TiO 2 for 1 h increased the Reactive Red 239 rejection and flux recovery rates by 13% and 40%, respectively, achieving 60% COD removal. The permeate flux and dye rejection rate were stable after 5 cycles (20 h of operation). This study demonstrates that the obtained membranes can perform prolonged membrane filtration with high-performance durability for dye wastewater treatment. Ischemia-induced myocardial infarction is regarded as one of the major killers of humans worldwide. Kinsenoside (KD), a primary active ingredient derived from Anoectochilus roxburghii , shows antioxidant and vascular protective properties. Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is associated with oxidative damage and could be regulated by KD. However, its targets and the exact mechanism by which it operates remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of KD in myocardial I/R injury and to define the mechanism by which it works. We established both myocardial I/R model in vivo and hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) cardiomyocyte model in vitro in this study. KD can attenuate I/R-induced myocardial injury in vivo and inhibit H/R-induced injury in vitro in a dose-dependent manner. KD increased mitochondrial membrane potential, SOD activity, and GSH activity in cardiomyocytes, whereas MDA accumulation, iron accumulation, and Mito-ROS production were decreased. We intersected differentially expressed genes (DEGs) from RNA-seq results with ferroptosis-related genes, and found KD significantly downregulated COX2 expression and upregulated GPX4 expression. These findings were further confirmed by Western blot analysis. Additionally, KD increased AKT phosphorylation and Nrf2 translocation into the nucleus, as well as HO-1 expression. When Akt or Nrf2 were inhibited in the KD group, the anti-ferroptosis properties of KD were nullified. Thus, Kinsenoside may exert anti-ferroptosis effect in myocardial I/R injury by decreasing mitochondrial dysfunction and increasing anti-oxidation through the Akt/Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway, suggesting it could be used as a potential therapeutic agent for myocardial reperfusion injury. The retrieval of continuous leaf area index (LAI) in space and time from remote sensing is beneficial for cropland monitoring and management. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) with the advantages of all-weather operation and fine spatial resolutions has been utilized in various agricultural applications. Although the water cloud model (WCM) has been extensively used for LAI estimation over croplands, it is modified for application to crop canopies with large gaps. The requirement of prior information on soil moisture is also a hinderance for the model application. In this study, WCM is theoretically modified to consider the correlation of active microwave propagation through the canopy in downward and upward directions. Such a modification is particularly important for sparse vegetation with large gaps between crop plants in the early stage of the growing season. A parameter with explicit physical meaning, i.e. the full-vegetation backscattering coefficient, was defined to simplify our model scheme and make the model applicable for the whole growing season. In addition, a physics-based SAR data processing scheme is developed to entangle the influences of LAI and soil moisture on SAR backscatter by taking advantage of the multiple polarizations of RADARSAT-2 (R2) SAR data. In this way, LAI was estimated using modified WCM without the prior knowledge of soil moisture. To evaluate LAI retrieved from the R2 datasets (R2 LAI), ground-based LAI measurements were made at the experimental area of SMAPVEX16-MB in Canada with twenty approximately 800 m х 800 m plots in soybeans and corn. R2 LAI was well correlated to these ground-based LAI (n = 15, R2 = 0.63, RMSE = 0.99 m2·m−2 for soybeans; n = 5, R2 = 0.66, RMSE = 1.20 m2·m−2 for corn). LAI was also retrieved from optical data acquired by Sentinel-2/MSI (S2), denoted as S2 LAI. The R2 LAI and S2 LAI are well correlated and achieved coefficients of determination (R2) of 0.76 and 0.71 and root mean square errors (RMSE) of 1.1 and 1.4 m2·m−2 for soybeans and corn, respectively. The seasonal variations of R2 LAI and S2 LAI are generally similar except at the end of the growing season when S2 LAI is considerably larger than R2 LAI. S2 LAI followed the trend of the reduction in leaf chlorophyll content, while R2 LAI reduced only slightly due to the decrease in leaf water content near the end the growing season. R2 LAI represents the total standing leaf area useful for surface energy balance estimation, while S2 LAI responds to green leaf area useful for crop productivity modeling. • The water cloud model (WCM) is modified to consider SAR observation geometry. • RADARSAT-2 dual-polarization data are used to retrieve LAI without prior soil moisture. • A dry-soil edge was proposed as a basis to remove soil moisture influence on LAI retrieval. • Seasonal variations of LAI from RADARSAT-2 and optical Sentinel-2 agree except at the end of the growing season. • Seven-term NASA polynomial representations of the temperature-dependent specific heat are computed. • Partition functions from ExoMol, Hitran, and Barklem and Collet are used. • Recommended polynomial fits are given for 464 molecules, about 200 for new species. So called NASA polynomials are widely used in plasma and combustion models to represent the specific heat of molecules as a function of temperature. In this work, we compute seven-term NASA polynomials for 464 molecules of which 44 are cations and 9 are anions; polynomials are not currently available for almost 200 of these species. Calculation of the NASA polynomials utilises data provided by the ExoMol database, the HITRAN database, the diatomic partition functions computed by Barklem and Collet, and the JANAF thermodynamic tables. Our results are compared against existing polynomial compilations where available, and for cases where there are multiple datasets the recommended polynomials are identified. As proposed in the original compilation, the seven-term polynomials are fitted separately for the temperature ranges 200 – 1000 K and 1000 – 6000 K. In general, different data sources give good agreement in the lower temperature range but there are significant discrepancies at higher temperatures, which can be attributed to the underlying assumptions made about highly excited rotation-vibration energy levels. Osteoporosis is a common disease characterized by reduced bone mass, microstructural deterioration, fragility and consequent fragility fractures and is particularly prevalent among the elderly population. Although glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) have positive effects on bones, their role in the prevention of osteoporotic fractures remains to be elucidated. The present study assigned female Sprague Dawley rats with osteoporotic fractures into variectomized osteoporosis (OVX), OVX + liraglutide (LIRA) (50 µg/kg/day subcutaneous LIRA) and control groups. At 3 and 6 weeks postoperatively, X-ray, tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining, histological and biomechanical assays and assessment of femoral bone mineral density (BMD) were performed. Compared with the OVX group, GLP-1 RA treatment improved the formation of calluses and osseous union. TRAP staining showed significantly fewer osteoclasts in the OVX + LIRA group compared with the OVX group. In the osteoporotically fractured rats, LIRA improved bone strength at the femoral diaphysis, stiffness, ultimate load and femoral trabecular BMD Compared with the OVX group. GLP-1 RA treatment inhibited osteoclast formation and improved trabecular bone architecture and mass in osteoporotic fracture model rats, leading to improved biomechanical strength. Enteric methane (CH 4) is primarily produced by methanogens during microbial fermentation in the rumen and is subsequently eructated through the oral and nasal passages of ruminants. As such, the present study hypothesized that the rates and daily amounts of CH 4 emission may be closely associated with CH 4 eructation peaks. To test this hypothesis, 12 dairy cows (6 lactating and 6 non-lactating) were selected as experimental animals with contrasting daily enteric CH 4 emissions. The experiment was conducted in two phases, with six non-lactating dairy cows in phase 1 and six lactating dairy cows in phase 2. For each phase, CH 4 eructation peaks were monitored every 2 h interval to calculate diurnal CH 4 emissions, with 12 time points scattered in four consecutive days by an automated head-chamber (AHC) system. The measurements were repeated, and total period of measurements lasted for 16 consecutive day. The results showed that compared with non-lactating dairy cows, lactating dairy cows exhibited greater diurnal CH 4 emissions and rates of CH 4 emission, together with higher peak frequency (P = 0.002), peak height (P < 0.001) and peak area integral (P < 0.001). Moreover, the rates of CH 4 emission was not constant and exhibited a fast increments after feeding, and had a positive correlation (R2 ≥ 0.54, P < 0.001) with peak height of CH 4 eructation. In conclusion, these findings indicate that the varied rates of CH 4 emission among dairy cows can be caused by altering peak frequency and peak area integral of CH 4 eructation, while a diurnal change in rates of CH 4 emission is associated with peak area integral through altering the peak height of CH 4 eructation. • Dairy cows exhibit variation in the daily amount and diurnal rate of CH 4 emission. • Lactating dairy cows exhibit greater CH 4 eructation peak frequency and peak area integral. • Diurnal change in rates of CH 4 emission is caused by altering CH 4 eructation peak height. Drought-flood abrupt alternation events (DFAAEs) bring about detrimental impacts on economics and environment. Projection of the future change in the DFAAEs is a challenging issue. Incorporated with the datasets of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 under two Representative Concentration Pathway scenarios (RCP4.5 and RCP8.5), we applied the Soil and Water Assessment Tool model and the drought-flood abrupt alternation index (DFAAI) to detect climate change impacts on the DFAAEs in the Poyang Lake Basin for the period from 2020 to 2099. Our results demonstrated that the projected DFAAEs would become more frequent and be mainly distributed from January to October. Among them, the drought-to-flood events mainly occur from January to July, while the flood-to-drought events mainly occur from July to October. The occurrence of the DFAAEs is more frequent, and the occurrence frequency of DFAAEs under RCP4.5 is 75. The mild DFAAEs would be the dominated events in the Poyang Lake Basin, while the moderate and extreme DFAAEs are spatially unevenly distributed. The annual maximum and minimum of DFAAI would increase, and the frequency and intensity of the DFAAEs tend to increase. The projected runoff tends to increase but spatially homogenous. The projected peak flow would delay leading to a change in the transition time of the DFAAEs' type. Recently, Hou, Mu and Zeilberger introduced a new process of polynomial reduction for hypergeometric terms, which can be used to prove and generate hypergeometric identities automatically. In this paper, we extend this polynomial reduction to holonomic sequences. As applications, we describe an algorithmic way to prove and generate new multi-summation identities.
