Introduction: Eating habits can directly influence the individual's health status, and modulate the risk for Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases, such as cancer. Objective: To evaluate the diet quality of individuals undergoing cancer treatment. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study, with 50 adult individuals undergoing cancer treatment. To assess the diet quality, the 24-hour recalls were analyzed and the Diet Quality Index associated with the Digital Food Guide (DQI-DFG) was applied. The correlation of the DQI-DFG with the study variables was evaluated using Student's t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: The study sample showed a predominance of females (68%), with a mean age of 58 years ± 12.0 years. The most common type of cancer among women was breast cancer (32%) and among men, intestinal cancer (6%). According to the DQI-DFG, most of the population studied was classified as having intermediate diet quality (66%), while 28% were classified as having low quality and only 6% as having good quality. Of the total sample, 48% of the patients were overweight and the most reported symptom was hyporexia, followed by nausea and vomiting. Conclusion: The diet quality of cancer patients was classified as intermediate, which indicates the need for interventions focused on dietary changes combined with the minimization of gastrointestinal symptoms to improve dietary intake and response to treatment. The aim of the present study was to compare the Diet Quality Index-Digital Food Guide (DQI-DFG) to a more widely used measure in the literature: the Brazilian Healthy Eating Index-Revised (BHEI-R). A cross-sectional population-based study was conducted with 822 older adults (≥ 60 years) from the city of Campinas/ SP, Brazil. The BHEI-R resulted in a higher overall score compared to DQI-DFG (62.9 vs. 47.7). For the BHEI-R, mean scores increased with age and were worse among smokers and individuals with a higher level of schooling. Regarding the DQI-DFG scores, no significant associations with age, schooling or smoking were detected; however, scores were higher in higher income segments. The components with the worst scores were whole grains, sodium and milk (BHEI-R); fruits, whole grains, roots/tubers, milk, refined cereals and red meat/processed (DQI-DFG). Divergences were found in the global scores and components of the indicators, reflecting important methodological differences. Studies of this nature constitute an opportunity to increase awareness regarding indicators of particular aspects of diet. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background. The food intake monitoring combined with the adjustment of eating habits are key resources to promote adequate food choices. However, the assessment of nutrient intake as the main marker of diet quality may mask consumption patterns potentially associated with a risk for chronic diseases. Objective. To analyze the nutrient intake among adults and verify its association with diet quality. Design. Dietary data were estimated by 24-hour recall of a random sample of 664 adults from a cross-sectional population-based study; diet quality was assessed using the Diet Quality Index associated with Digital Food Guide; DRI reference values were used to evaluate nutrient intake. Participants. A survey conducted in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, interviewed adults aged 19-60 years, of both sexes. Main outcome measures. Nutrient intake showed weak association with diet quality. Statistical analyses performed. In the descriptive analysis, the chi-square test was used. Dietary variables were processed by the Student's t-test and Mann-Whitney. Pearson's linear coefficient was used to verify correlation between nutrient intake and the total index score. Results. Low quality diets were more often among men (p<0,05); for this group, nutrient intake did not differ, despite the quality of the diet. Macronutrients, fatty acids and cholesterol intake, for both men and women, and diet quality score, showed a very weak (r<0.25) or weak (0.25 - r - 0.50) correlation. Conclusions. It is possible to consume low quality diets and still meet the dietary reference intakes. The assessment of nutrient intake can compromise preventive and treatment actions and is not sufficient to identify healthy food consumption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
