9. Enhanced building energy flexibility using passive PCM envelope and HVAC control automation

Abstract

One solution for improving the thermal performance of existing building envelopes is the use of pre-formed internal insulative panels that incorporate impregnated phase change materials (PCM). Such measures have the potential to enhance the energy flexibility of buildings when combined with HVAC control automation and digitalisation techniques, thereby offering the possibility of participation in demand side management measures such as demand response programmes. The current literature on building envelope physics lacks research on the integration of such PCMs in building envelopes and advanced HVAC control automation, especially in the context of research into the energy flexibility and demand response nature under heating and cooling scenarios. The aim of the current study is to evaluate how the addition of PCM impregnated internal wall panels and HVAC thermostat control automation affect both the thermal performance of the building envelope, as well as the wider building energy characteristics, when subject to different demand response events. The reference building is a detached residential house which has a floor area of 160 m2 and a south-easterly facing aspect. This study presents a building energy management methodology to develop new energy flexibility indicators for HVAC thermostat control automation taking into consideration a pre-cooling period prior to the demand response event as well as evaluating the thermal energy storage capacity and peak power curtailment. Four different demand response scenarios are examined. Simulation results show that shorter envelope pre-cooling periods in association with longer demand response periods are preferable for all envelopes to achieve the maximum power curtailment for cooling. Gypsum boards enhanced with PCM were retrofitted as part of lightweight thermal mass and medium weight thermal mass envelopes and are shown to give best cooling demand shifting and performance. Abstract

Utopia, utopia or utopia are among the concepts that have occupied the minds of thinkers for many years. Utopian thought is that part of thought throughout history that examines the way to achieve a way of life that is associated with well-being and success. In front of Dystopia, there is a dystopia where people will not achieve victory and salvation, societies have moral vices and arrogance that prevent the citizens of such societies from achieving salvation. In this research, the author intends to study and read Hafez Shirazi's sonnets and compare it with Lucien Goldman's sociological components and analysis of poems, to look at a comprehensive view of utopia and destruction in Hafez's sonnets. 11. Growth Analysis and Oil Quality of Canola (Brassica napusL.) Treated with Zinc Nanochelate and Zinc Sulfate Under Different Irrigation Regimes

Abstract

Rapid climate change and global warming are leading to more droughts worldwide, posing a serious threat to sustainable agricultural production. This study aimed to evaluate two types of zinc (Zn) fertilization effects at various concentrations on growth and oil quality of canola under different irrigation regimes. Experiment was conducted in a split-split plot arrangement as a complete block design with four replications. The treatments consisted of drought stress with three levels (control, irrigation stop at flowering or mid-season (MDS), and irrigation stop at pod filling or late-season (LDS)) as main factor, two types of Zn fertilization (Zn sulfate and Zn nanochelate) as the first sub-factor, and Zn concentration with three levels (0, 3, and 5 ppt) as the second sub-factor over 2018 and 2019. Results revealed that although most traits were not affected by the year, drought significantly reduced yield attributes, oleic acid, and linoleic acid. In addition, the decreasing trend of leaf area index (LAI), total dry matter (TDM), crop growth rate (CGR), and relative growth rate (RGR) was more pronounced under MDS. The detrimental effects of irrigation stop at both phases on the investigated attributes were mitigated by Zn fertilization. Additionally, under stress, Zn-nanochelate outperformed Zn-sulfate, especially at higher concentrations (5 ppt). Overall, it can be concluded that foliar spraying of canola plants with Zn nanochelate under drought stress at a concentration of 5 ppt can be a beneficial strategy to counteract the detrimental impacts of drought, particularly during the most vulnerable growth phase of the crop.
