Abstract

Certain solutions of autonomous PDEs without any boundary conditions describing the spatiotemporal evolution of a dependent variable in an unbounded spatial domain can be characterised as a travelling wave moving with constant speed. In the simplest case, such PDEs can be reduced to a single autonomous second order ODE with one dependent variable. For certain parameter values it has been shown using perturbations methods in combination with ans\"{a}tze that numerous such second order ODEs have analytical travelling wave solutions described by a simple sigmoid function. However, this methodology provides no leverage on the problem of finding a generalised class of models possessing such analytical travelling wave solutions. The most efficient methods for both finding analytical solutions and constructing classes of ODEs are based on Lie symmetries which are transformations known as one parameter $\mathcal{C}^{\infty}$ diffeomorphisms mapping solutions to other solutions. Recently, analytical solutions of a second order ODE encapsulating numerous oscillatory models as well as some of the previously mentioned travelling wave models with simple analytical solutions have been found by means of a two dimensional Lie algebra. Based on this Lie algebra, we construct the most general class of integrable autonomous second order ODEs for which these symmetries are manifest. Moreover, we show that a sub-class of second order ODEs has simple analytical travelling wave solutions described by a sigmoid function. Lastly, we characterise the action of the two symmetries in this Lie algebra on these simple analytical travelling wave solutions and we relate our sub-class of ODEs to previously known integrable travelling wave models., Comment: 21 pages, 1 figure

Abstract

In this paper, we derive general monotone quantities and geometric inequalities associated with $p$-capacitary functions in asymptotically flat $3$-manifolds with simple topology and nonnegative scalar curvature. The inequalities become equalities on the spatial Schwarzschild manifolds outside rotationally symmetric spheres. This generalizes Miao's result \cite{M} from $p=2$ to $p\in (1, 3)$. As applications, we recover mass-to-$p$-capacity and $p$-capacity-to-area inequalities due to Bray-Miao \cite{BM} and Xiao \cite{Xiao}., Comment: In this version, we extended the range of $k$ from $[0, 1]$ to $(-1, 1]$ in Theorem 1.1. 22. L-Arabinose inhibits Shiga toxin type 2-converting bacteriophage induction in Escherichia coli O157:H7

Abstract

The pathogenicity of Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7 is predominantly associated with Shiga toxin 2 (Stx2) that poses a huge threat to human and animal intestinal health. Production of Stx2 requires expression of stx2 gene, which is located in the genome of lambdoid Stx2 prophage. Growing evidence has implicated that many commonly consumed foods participate in the regulation of prophage induction. In this study, we aimed to explore whether specific dietary functional sugars could inhibit Stx2 prophage induction in E. coli O157:H7, thereby preventing Stx2 production and promoting intestinal health. We demonstrated that Stx2 prophage induction in E. coli O157:H7 was strongly inhibited by L-arabinose both invitro and in a mouse model. Mechanistically, L-arabinose at doses of 9, 12, or 15 mM diminished RecA protein levels, a master mediator of the SOS response, contributing to reduced Stx2-converting phage induction. L-Arabinose inhibited quorum sensing and oxidative stress response, which are known as positive regulators of the SOS response and subsequent Stx2 phage production. Furthermore, L-arabinose impaired E. coli O157:H7 arginine transport and metabolism that were involved in producing Stx2 phage. Collectively, our results suggest that L-arabinose may be exploited as a novel Stx2 prophage induction inhibitor against E. coli O157:H7 infection.

37. Dietary Supplementation of 25-Hydroxyvitamin D 3 Improves Growth Performance, Antioxidant Capacity and Immune Function in Weaned Piglets.

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25(OH)VD3) and Vitamin D3 (VD3) supplemented in the diet of weaned piglets on their growth performance, bone quality, intestinal integrity, immune function and antioxidant capacity. A total of 192 weaned piglets were allocated into four groups and they were fed a control diet containing 2000 IU VD3 (negative control, NC), NC + 100 ppm colistin sulfate (positive control, PC), NC + 2000 IU VD3 (VD3) and NC + 2000 IU 25(OH)VD3 (25(OH)VD3). The results showed that 25(OH)VD3 improved the growth performance, bone quality and antioxidase activity of piglets compared with the other groups. Meanwhile, 25(OH)VD3 up-regulated ileal mRNA expressions of tight junction proteins and host defense peptides. The VD3 group had an increased intestinal sIgA content and mRNA expression of pBD-1 compared with the NC group. Both groups of VD3 and 25(OH)VD3 altered the microbial β-diversity compared with the NC group, and 25(OH)VD3 increased ileal concentrations of acetate and butyrate. In conclusion, our findings indicated that a regular dosage of 2000 IU VD3 in the weaned piglets' diet did not achieve optimal antioxidant capacity and immune function. 25(OH)VD3 had better growth performance than VD3 at the same inclusion level, which is associated with the improved intestinal integrity and antioxidant capacity. Abstract

In this article, a design of bipolar nonsalient pole (BNSP) transmitter, which originates from motor theory, for high-power EV dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT) system is proposed. To analyze and evaluate BNSP transmitter in aspect of principle, characteristic, and performance, the existing I-type, S-type, and N-type transmitters in DWPT application are classified as bipolar salient pole (BSP) transmitter, which establishes a reference for comparing. The design parameters and other contrast conditions of BNSP and BSP transmitters are given. Coupling flux and leakage flux of BNSP transmitter are analyzed by comparing the magnetic models and the finite-element models of BNSP and BSP transmitters. Based on the modular design in practical application, the sensitivity of coupling performance to the module gap in BNSP and BSP transmitters is analyzed and compared in simulation. All theoretical results are verified by contrast experiments. The maximum effective mutual inductance of BNSP transmitter is about 31.0% larger than that of BSP transmitter, and the efficiency of the system with output power of 10 kW is 93.5% with BNSP transmitter, about 2.4% higher than that with BSP transmitter. Besides, BNSP transmitter needs 5.9% shorter Litz wire and 53.1% smaller volume of cores, which makes it smaller in size. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

40. Platelet Membrane-Encapsulated Poly(lactic- co -glycolic acid) Nanoparticles Loaded with Sildenafil for Targeted Therapy of Vein Graft Intimal Hyperplasia.

Abstract

Autologous vein grafts have attracted widespread attention for their high transplantation success rate and low risk of immune rejection. However, this technique is limited by the postoperative neointimal hyperplasia, recurrent stenosis and vein graft occlusion. Hence, we propose the platelet membrane-coated Poly(lactic- co -glycolic acid) (PLGA) containing sildenafil (PPS). Platelet membrane (PM) is characterised by actively targeting damaged blood vessels. The PPS can effectively target the vein grafts and then slowly release sildenafil to treat intimal hyperplasia in the vein grafts, thereby preventing the progression of vein graft restenosis. PPS effectively inhibits the proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMCs) and promotes the migration and vascularisation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). In a New Zealand rabbit model of intimal hyperplasia in vein grafts, the PPS significantly suppressed vascular stenosis and intimal hyperplasia at 14 and 28 days after surgery.
