Business educators are concerned with integrating diversity-related topics and seek methods by which to teach them. This paper suggests that as classes become more heterogeneous, the opportunity to examine diverse perspectives and experiences naturally arises in the course of class assignments and activities. The differential experiences of majorities and minorities are revealed when students discuss and write about their own experiences related to the content of various business courses. The issues of self and group identity and perceptions of others emerge in the context of small group discussions when students share their experiences as recorded in learning logs, personal cases, research assignments, and typical class discussions. The opportunity for community learning in heterogeneous groups provides a forum for diverse perspectives and experiences to be shared. Students and professors learn about different perceptions and reactions to personal and current events as well as their own perspectives, creating a culture of inclusion in the class. This paper reports a design experiment that attempted to strike a balance between coverage and learning in an exam-oriented, college-preparatory, high school course-Advanced Placement (AP) US Government and Politics. Theoretically, the study provides a conceptual framework for penetrating the depth/breadth tension in such courses, which are known for coverage and perhaps 'rigour', but lag behind contemporary research on how people learn and what learning is. Methodologically, the paper details a mixed-methods study of an alternative approach to AP coursework, conducted with 314 students across three high schools. First-year findings indicate that a course of semi-repetitive, content-rich project cycles can lead to same or higher scores on the AP exam along with deeper conceptual learning, but that attention is needed to a collateral problem: orienting students to a new kind of coursework. A paper reports on a research with archaeologists working in the Yucatan in Mexico to try and create an archaeology that is less damaging to local environments, cultural resources and local communities than many archaeological projects. This paper is about teaching and learning across the so‐called quantitative–qualitative divide in light of current debates in the US about the definition and quality of educational research. It draws on the author’s research and teaching experiences, her role in the redesign of qualitative methods coursework and participation in a school‐wide effort to improve doctoral training at Harvard Graduate School of Education. The paper explores institutional, cultural and psychological reasons for why the quantitative–qualitative divide persists, including researchers’ own anxieties. It is argued that epistemological tensions in educational research should be sustained and embraced rather than resolved in favor of one side over the other, as is too often the case. The author identifies how qualitative research departs from the quantitative model, placing distinct demands upon students who are learning the craft, and offers suggestions for what might help the process. This paper examines teacher development of TGfU in teacher education programmes in Australia and the USA by taking a cross-sectional snapshot across a sequence covering the final two years of a teacher education programme in which TGfU is emphasised, and the first two years of teaching after graduating from the same programmes. It explores the interrelated nature of the pre-service teachers' prior dispositions toward PE teaching, their reasons for adopting TGfU and their experiences of TGfU teaching. Conducting this research in two distinctly different cultural and insitutional settings provides a means through which we also explore the situated nature of teacher education and the effect that different cultural and institutional settings might have on TGfU teacher development. Social work programs accredited by the Council on Social Work Education educate students for practice at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This paper presents a critical analysis of social work education in the United States. The analysis suggests that graduates of social work programs do not appear to master the skills, knowledge and values critical to effective practice and policy intervention. The paper reports on an experiential approach to teaching retailing and merchandising through the operation of a student run store. This approach to learning proved to be both challenging and rewarding to students and instructor alike. Students gained real world knowledge and a new outlook on retailing as a career path, and instructors witnessed significant changes in students' understanding of what retailing and merchandising are about. Further, instructors observed the implementation of concepts covered in class lectures during the operation of the retail store and completion of the Store Operation Report. In addition to the comments made by students regarding the outcome of the class in achieving its objectives, all students that took the course felt that it was rewarding and would recommend to to their peers. The article examines papers on case and experiential learning methods to teaching marketing in the United States. "Experiential learning = Hands-On + Minds-On," by Mark Young, describes a process to boost the learning potential of experience by integrating it with activities that require reflection on the experience. On the other hand, "Teaching Retailing and Merchandising: An Experiential Approach," by Victoria Seitz and Nabil Razzouk, discusses an exercise, called the Store, that extends learning very near to reality.
