The article examines the trends in teacher education based on papers published in the "European Journal of Teacher Education" (EJTE) since 1978. Topics discussed include the countries identified as the context for the research, research methodologies used in the papers published and some of the merging trends are teacher education curriculum, comparative analysis of teacher education and approaches to teaching a subject.

The teaching of psychoanalysis encompasses a wide array of educational stages, from undergraduate students to psychoanalytic candidates and lifelong training for professionals. Papers published in psychoanalytic journals play a fundamental role in teaching tasks. The historical separation of psychoanalytic practice from the research community and the university probably relates to the relative lack of empirical investigation and the contested status of research in general within the psychoanalytic community. In addition, there is not enough debate among different schools and orientations, making it very unlikely that creative solutions to theoretical and practical discussions will be found. Related to this, there seems to be a worrying deficit of recent references in psychoanalytic papers compared with general psychiatric journals or medical publications. This reflects a dangerous attitude of not paying attention to contemporary writers within our own field. Reasons behind this might be fear of confrontation with other colleagues, loyalty to our own dogmas and clinical practices, a system of training that promotes continuity, and even organizational structures that sustain this state of things. A renewed attention to research in psychoanalysis (conceptual, empirical, clinical-observational, etc.) and establishing ties to academic environments in the fields of natural and human sciences might improve this situation and offer a path towards collective theoretical and clinical development. In the first half of the twentieth century there was a great deal of debate about increasing female participation in sporting activities, and changes to the female sporting body and the way in which it was displayed. Magazines for girls played a key role in the construction of the female body, and in mediating for their readers a range of diverse views on the meaning, purpose and benefits or dangers of female physical culture. This article explores the way in which one periodical, the Girl's Own Paper (GOP), disseminated those discourses and allowed its readers to explore different viewpoints. It argues that the way in which GOP presented sport for girls and women was contingent upon the age of the intended readership, and that the coverage of sport within the paper reached a peak in the 1930s when the target readership was aged 12 to 16. Collection management is an important duty of librarians. In the last years journal prices have increased and library decision-makers have been forced to consider cancelling some journal subscriptions as budgets have not increased always by the same ratio. This fact has made it essential to supply reliable and efficient measures about the importance of different journals for in-house users in order to help the decision-makers to cancel subscriptions. Many journal-use studies can be found in the literature providing methods for making these kinds of decisions, but usually they consider only one single and precise decision criterion. Nevertheless, it is common knowledge that any real decision usually considers more than one criterion, and so the problem of choosing a set of journals to cancel is compounded by the existence of conflicting criteria, such as the cost of the journal and demand for the journal. As predicting possible number of users of a certain journal is a complex task, the expert''s judgments could be vital elements. Fuzzy Set theory could be a useful tool in dealing with these kinds of real decisions based on the expert''s knowledge and characterized by some level of subjectivity, in which the decision-maker has imprecise and/or vague data and/or incomplete information. In this paper a fuzzy bicriteria optimisation method is proposed to determine the optimal shape of the printed journal collection in a medical library in a Spanish public hospital. We jointly consider two criteria: maximising a usage function and also an opportunity coefficient of purchase function, both defined for each printed journal. Budget constraints and minimum availability constraints are taken into account. The proposed model is flexible, incorporates expert knowledge and can be easily extended to other hospital libraries. This article examines the content of Women's Cricket magazine, which was published between 1930 and 1967 by the Women's Cricket Association. It is suggested that sportswomen have always actively resisted and attempted to combat the negative discourses surrounding their participation in physical activities; the magazine is used as a case study of this. It is argued that the editors attempted to challenge the stereotypes of women's cricket available in the mainstream press by publishing a newspaper of their own which provided accurate, serious coverage of their sport, and by distributing this to the mainstream press. This paper argues that existing accounts of the 'post-feminist' gender regime place excessive emphasis on modes of repudiation of feminism, at the expense of analysing possibilities for the affirmation of feminism in the mainstream media. I argue that this oversight may be rectified by an assessment of the ways in which feminism is affirmed, contested and spoken about in the pages of the quality press. Consequently, the bulk of the paper consists of an analysis of articles specifically about feminism and gender in two British quality newspapers with divergent political orientations. These are The Guardian, which is left-leaning and broadly pro-feminist, and The Times, which is more conservative and ambivalent towards feminism. In so doing, the paper introduces the notion of feminist 'domestication' as central to constructions of feminism in The Guardian, and to a lesser extent in The Times. Domestication refers to the explicit or implicit affirmation of a safe, unthreatening form of feminism via a disavowal of a more radical feminist position. Strategies of domestication thus constitute an acceptable space for feminism to reside, whilst at the same time curtailing its more radical political dimensions. This paper reviews a content analysis of papers published in the Journal of Sustainable Tourism, the only journal exclusively devoted to sustainable tourism research over the past 15 years (1993-2007). Based on a detailed examination of the contents, a database was developed which consists of information about (1) volume/number/year; (2) study areas; (3) forms of tourism; (4) subject themes; (5) research perspectives; (6) concept and measurement and (7) methodology. A series of trends describing the growth of sustainable tourism research has been identified. The findings present the journal's contribution to theoretical debates, methodological sophistication and practical implications in sustainable tourism development. For the 30 years between 1837 and 1867, the Gateshead Observer provided coverage of local and national business, financial and political news that rivalled and frequently surpassed that of the various Newcastle papers and was vastly superior to that of other north-eastern publications. This article examines how this came about. It also considers how a newspaper avowedly political in its foundation emerged, as a result of the particular circumstances of Gateshead's enfranchisement and industrial development and the individuals involved, essentially as a paper for the business community. The article investigates the economic and business rationales why joint operating agreements (JOAs) ended in the U.S. It relates the decrease of the number of cities with papers under these arrangements. It explores the means used by publishers to put period on the said joint operations and the implications of those processes. It states that JOAs between periodicals are allowed under an exemption to antitrust laws in the nation as means of saving secondary newspapers and preserving editorial competition in cities.

Aim: To find out features in literature demand by researchers in the field of andrology and to offer advice on literature utilization and journal management. Methods: Five andrology journals indexed by Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) (Andrologia, Archives of Andrology, Asian Journal of Andrology, International Journal of Andrology, and Journal of Andrology) were included in the study. Original articles, editorials, reviews, corrections and letters from these journals were analyzed with bibliometric method for document loading, citations, information absorbing ability, and geographical coverage. Results: The average number of references in each paper was 28.78. The main type of references was periodicals (94.32%), while books and other sources accounted for only 5.68%. Average Price index was 30.14%. The number of references in the first ranking 10 periodicals cited by the five journals made up 34.53% of the total references cited. Geographically, the five journals covered 6 continents with 42 countries or regions. Conclusion: Andrology journals have a wide coverage of literatures, which are related to reproductive medicine, urology, endocrinology and biochemistry. References in andrology journals are mainly periodicals and are relatively old. US, China and Japan lead the world in andrology researches for the number of papers published. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Four issues concerning the quality of scientific economics papers are addressed. First, the ex-ante procedure of computing the average impact of economic papers are validated by comparing its results with the ex post values. Second, an estimator of papers normalized impact is calibrated. Third, the ranking variability of journals is computed using a bootstrap procedure. Fourth, the statistical hypothesis that journals' ranking did not change over the time interval between 1980 and 2000 is tested. A set of 12,436 papers published in 20 GIScience journals in the period 2000–2014 were analysed to extract publication patterns and trends. This comprehensive scientometric study focuses on multiple aspects: output volume, citations, national output and efficiency (output adjusted with econometric indicators), collaboration, altmetrics (Altmetric score, Twitter mentions, and Mendeley bookmarking), authorship, and length. Examples of notable observations are that 5% countries account for 76% of global GIScience output; a paper published 15 years ago received a median of 12 citations; and the share of international collaborations in GIScience has more than tripled since 2000 (31% papers had authors from multiple countries in 2014, an increase from 10% in 2000). It is found that alphabetized coauthored papers with two authors are more highly cited than non-alphabetized coauthored papers in both economics and agricultural economics. We speculate that the preponderance of non-alphabetized papers in agricultural economics, as compared to economics, is due in some part to the differential importance of nonmarket-based criteria to evaluate research in this area as opposed to economics departments. Given the steady increase in co-authored papers in economics journals, this paper reports a study of the patterns of co-authorship between US universities and colleges. A majority of institutions produce more co-authored than single-authored papers. Contacts with researchers from the same institution are still an important source of co-authored papers, even though slightly decreasing in frequency. The determinants of co-authorship outside the own institution are tested in a gravity model and it is found that distance and other geographical variables do not matter. This paper examines the key individual contributors and institutional contributors to JPSSM, covering 628 articles written by 761 authors since the journal's inception in fall/winter 1980 until its fall 2009 issue. The nature and the dynamics of the coauthor networks of the journal's leading individual contributors are further investigated. Results indicate that leading contributors to JPSSM are also major contributors to other academic outlets that have published sales research. These authors possess at least one common trait: they effectively network and collaborate with other sales scholars. In addition, their coauthor networks change over time, both in membership and in structure. For the most, coauthor networks evolve by reducing some members and bringing in new ones. In many cases, however, membership change is accompanied by a structural change, usually from a fragmented network to a dense network. Research findings have important implications for understanding the development of sales knowledge and the contribution of sales scholars and their institutions. University administrators can also use the findings of this paper as a benchmark to define "reasonable" publication expectations for faculty with an interest in sales management research. The first issue of Ozone: Science & Engineering (OS&E) was published in early 1979 with Dr. L. J. Bollyky as the Editor-in-Chief. This was a milestone for the International Ozone Association enabling professional recognition of the advances in ozone technology. Since this first issue, 23 volumes of OS&E have been published containing 114 individual issues, 675 technical articles and nearly 11,000 pages. Dr. Rip Rice became Editor-in-Chief in 1985 and continued this position until 1998. Under the leadership of these gentlemen, OS&E expanded from about 70 pages per issue four times per year to 100 pages, then to six issues per year, at about 100 pages. In 2001 the dimensions of the journal were increased to accommodate even more manuscripts. Early articles in OS&E focused heavily on aquaculture applications, municipal wastewater treatment and industrial applications. In 1980 the application of ozone to trihalomethane control was summarized and a shift to papers on drinking water treatment occurred. Early papers also introduced the use of ozone for pulp bleaching, odor control, bottled water treatment, swimming pool treatment, cooling tower treatment, the use of UV, advanced oxidation, and ozone measurement. As the journal and ozone science matured, papers began to cover more in-depth studies on disinfection removal of specific pollutants and to focus on current environmental problems such as inactivation of Cryptosporidium. In 1989, the Harvey M. Rosen Memorial Award was established to recognize the "best paper" published in OS&E during the two-year period between World Congresses. The Editorial Board of OS&E determines the selection of the award. To date, eight papers have received this prestigious award. Papers of four decades published inLandscape Researchare reviewed in order to chronicle the journal’s development and to assess the academic performance of the journal relative to its own aims. Landscape Researchintends to reach a wide audience, to have a broad thematic coverage and to publish different types of papers with various methodological orientations. Cutting across these first aims are the interdisciplinary ambition of the journal, and its overall focus on landscape. These aims are evaluated based upon categorisation of article content, authorship and methodology, using data derived through interpretative inquiry and quantitative analyses. The results tell the story of howLandscape Researchhas developed from a newsletter of the Landscape Research Group, mainly aimed at practitioners, into an interdisciplinary, international journal with academic researchers as its primary community of interest. The article discusses on the issue of inclusion of the names of reviewers. Reviewing journal papers takes considerable time and effort. reviewers comments usually improve the clarity and quality of the final manuscript. Indeed, some papers would never be published without substantial revisions following input from reviewers. Reviewers receive no pay for their efforts, and sometimes not even a word/note of thanks. It has been argued that reviewers may be more inclined to recommend papers for acceptance if their own names are published in the paper.

This study analyzes authorships in 25 Leading tourism and hospitality journals over a five-year period. A total of 3,153 full papers are examined. More than 3200 individuals authored or co-authored these papers. Prolific authors are those who authored or co-authored a minimum of 10 papers during the study period. Less than 2% of authors met this threshold. Yet they are involved in a disproportionately large 22% of all journal articles published. Prolific authors are predominately male, middle-aged and hold the rank of professor or associate professor. They reside in 10 different countries in four continents and were found to be working in 32 different universities. Objective: Women are becoming more prevalent in clinical neuropsychology, but gender bias and disparities persist across multiple professional domains. This study examined potential gender disparities in historical authorship trends across commonly read journals in clinical neuropsychology. Method: Analyses were conducted on 10,531 articles published in six clinical neuropsychology journals from 1985 to 2019. Each author was coded as either a man or a woman using the OpenGenderTracking Project database. Results: On average, women comprised 43.3% (±30.6) of the authors listed in clinical neuropsychology article bylines and were lead and/or corresponding author on 50.3% of these papers. Findings varied by journal, with Child Neuropsychology having the best representation of women across several study metrics. Women comprised an increasing proportion of authors over time and the gender gap in clinical neuropsychology is smaller than was recently reported for the broader field of psychology; nevertheless, the recent rates of women as authors lag behind the prevalence of women in clinical neuropsychology. Encouragingly, gender was not associated with the number of times an article was cited. Articles that included women in leadership roles had significantly more authors overall and specifically more women authors. Conclusions: Women are under-represented as authors in clinical neuropsychology journals, but they are becoming more common and their papers are cited just as frequently as men. Efforts to increase women as research mentors and sponsors may help to further close the publishing gender gap in clinical neuropsychology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
