Abstract

The article discusses the legal and regulatory framework of management and disposal of waste in Great Britain. Details on the historical development of waste and disposal legislation in the country are presented. An overview of the European Union waste policy directives are offered. Information on the issues concerning Great Britain's waste management is explored. It also discusses the hazardous waste policy in the country including the types of hazardous wastes and its key requirements. It also discusses the proposed waste strategy which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 9.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.
