Prestress loss of anchor cables can cause a change in the internal force for the support structure of a foundation pit or slope, which may cause engineering accidents. The coupling effect between an anchor cable and the creep of rock and soil is the main factor that leads to the loss of prestress of the anchor cables. However, the traditional Hooke–Kelvin (H-K) viscoelastic model could not accurately predict the long-term loss of prestress. To solve this problem, based on the H-K viscoelastic model, a new H-3K viscoelastic model was proposed, consisting of two generalized Kelvin bodies connected in parallel, and its creep equation and relaxation equation were also derived. Focusing on slope engineering in Longnan City, Gansu Province, China, the prestress of anchor cables calculated by the proposed model were compared with the monitoring data. The result that the H-K creep coupling model is more accurate in predicting prestress loss of anchor cables in the initial stage, but from a long-term perspective, the H-3K creep coupling model provided a more accurate prediction. By connecting more generalized Kelvin bodies in parallel, stress shared by the elastic body can be reduced and stress loss due to anchor cable relaxation can be approximately compensated for to make the prediction results closer to the monitored values. However, when there are more than three Kelvin bodies in parallel, the model prediction results will change only slightly. Based on the Xiabeishan No.2 tunnel project of the Hang-Shao-Tai high-speed railway in China, the mechanical behavior of the anchor bolts for shallow super-large-span (SSLS) tunnels in weak rock mass is comprehensively investigated through laboratory tests, numerical simulation, and field tests. Firstly, an eight-month field test is conducted in the Xiabeishan No.2 tunnel, and it is discovered that the blasting vibration created by the construction of the middle pilot tunnel caused serious damage to the temporary support, seriously affecting the development of the bolt axial force and causing great construction risks. Then, the refined finite difference model of the SSLS tunnels is formulated, and a series of field and laboratory tests are conducted to acquire the calculation parameters. By comparing the monitored and simulated bolt axial force, the reliability of the numerical model is verified. Subsequently, the influence of the rock condition, construction scheme and bolt length on the mechanical behavior of anchor bolts is discussed. It is revealed that the rock grade significantly affects the bearing characteristics of anchor bolts. The construction scheme can greatly affect the magnitude and development mode of the bolt axial force, but the final distribution characteristics of the bolt axial force do not change regardless of the construction sequence. The axial force of the anchor bolts grows rapidly with the bolt length when the bolt length is within 18 m; meanwhile, when the bolt length exceeds 18 m, increasing the bolt length has a limited effect on the improvement in the bolt support performance. The career anchors of information technology personnel (ITP) are critical factors influencing their career satisfaction (CS), and these factors are also influenced by national culture. Although a number of scholars have studied the internal CS of employees, these scholars have not explained how to increase the CS of ITP from both individual and organizational perspectives and to further improve the success rate of IS projects. Thus, this study adopts the goal–achievement gap (discrepancy) theory to explore the gap between the "internal career desires (career wants, CW)" and "external career opportunities (career have, CH)" of ITP in two different cultural societies, namely mainland China and the United Arab Emirates, and whether the gap impacts their CS. The data in this study were collected from the Internet. A survey was posted on Internet discussion forums for full-time ITP participants within organizations in China and the United Arab Emirates; thus, the results of this study are possibly only generalizable to these two countries. Finally, the results of this study provide the following contributions: (1) There are 13 career anchors (technical competence, managerial competence, autonomy, organizational stability, challenge, lifestyle, identity, creativity, variety, service, entrepreneurship, geographic security, and learning motivation) of ITP in China, which can be divided into three categories, and these are totally different from the four categories identified by ITP in the United Arab Emirates. (2) The surface analysis approach (RSA) to test the curvilinear relationship between the CW, CH, and CS of ITP indeed can explain more than the linear SEM (structural equation modeling) test between the CW and CS, CH, and CS separately, both tests are in two different cultural societies, China and the United Arab Emirates. Since the western region of China, which is typical of extraordinary resource endowments, has gradually emerged as the major mining zone in China, the mining of thick coal seams and roadways with coal-rock composite roof have become more and more common in this region. However, it is extremely difficult to realize safe and effective maintenance and control of such roadways due to the differences in natural endowments of coal-rock masses. With the roadway with coal-rock composite roof of Hulusu Coal Mine in western China as the engineering background, experiment research on large-scale similarity model was conducted through comprehensive measures such as the pneumatic loading system, the surrounding rock stress monitoring system, the roadway deformation monitoring system, the bolt load monitoring system, and the displacement field monitoring system in this paper. According to the results of the experiment, the control effects of the three support systems on the roadway with coal-rock composite roof were significantly different. When the single support of short anchor bolts was applied, the comparatively low initial anchor-hold failed to constrain the initial micro deformation of the roof. Consequently, wide-range fractures of the roof were triggered at a loading pressure of 0.8 MPa. In the meanwhile, the deep surrounding rocks witnessed a downward inflection point in stress, accompanied by the possibility of the collapse of the thin-layer anchorage zone at any time. As for the support combining both short anchor bolts and long anchor cables, though a reinforced effect on the bolt anchorage zone could be achieved with the help of the cables, the active reinforcement capacity of the bolt was limited. The bolt anchorage zone was the first to be damaged at a loading pressure of 0.9 MPa, which would subsequently affect the effective bearing capacity of the deep surrounding rocks. In the application of the single support of high-strength long anchor bolts, the long bolts with high pre-tightening force were able to lock multiple groups of coal-rock strata to form a thick-layer anchorage bearing structure capable of withstanding a load as high as 1.0 MPa. The crash and collapse of the coal wall eventually caused the subsidence of the roof. Based on the intense dynamic load experiment and the feedbacks of engineering application outcomes in the field, it was concluded that the high-pretension thick-layer (HPTL) anchoring technology can effectively constrain the deformation of roadways with coal-rock composite roof with favorable application outcomes. The synergetic effect of the combined supporting system (pile + steel support + anchor) was studied through field tests and finite-element numerical simulation of the foundation's deformation under "rock-soil layer" conditions, typical for China's Qingdao region. The horizontal displacement of the retaining pile, as well as the ground settlements around the foundation, were studied and compared. The factors were discussed, including excavation steps, pre-stress of steel support and anchor affecting the foundation deformations, pile displacement, pile bending, and shear distribution. Objective: The Substance Use Risk Profile Scale (SURPS) has been developed to screen personality risk factors for substance misuse. This scale assesses 4 high-risk personality traits using a 23-item, self-report questionnaire. SURPS helps guiding targeted approaches to prevention of substance abuse and misuse. It has been validated in the United Kingdom, English Canada, Sri Lanka, and China. This study aims to validate this scale in a sample of French-speaking adolescents from Quebec as well as its sensitivity in a clinical sample of adolescents. Method: Two hundred two 15-year-old youths from a community sample completed a French version of SURPS as well as other measures of personality and substance use. This study reports the internal consistency and concurrent validity of the scale, as well as a factor analysis of items. Further, 40 youths (mean age 15.7 years) from a clinical population completed SURPS and their scores were compared with those of the community sample. Results: SURPS French translation has good internal consistency and demonstrated a 4-factor structure very similar to the original scale. The 4 subscales show good concurrent validity, and 3 of the subscales were found to correlate with measures of substance use. Finally, 95% of the clinical sample was identified at high risk for substance misuse according to SURPS cut-off scores. Deep-sea drag anchor technology is an efficient solution for mooring offshore floating facilities. It has been widely adopted for temporary oil & gas engineering vessels in China. This paper presents a design strategy of drag anchors in cohesive soils for offshore floating facilities in the South China Sea. The design considerations and challenges encountered in practice are outlined, and technical solutions for the anchor design from the installation, through severe annual typhoons, to the end of design life are presented. The primary aims of the paper are to provide design specification of the drag anchor, considering geotechnical and metocean characteristics in the South China Sea, in a line with the international design guidelines, as well as to highlight its promising application in both conventional and renewable sectors in the South China Sea. • This paper outlines current design considerations, challenges and experience of drag anchors in South China Sea. • A design strategy is presented, and it provides a basis to evaluate the safety margin and the whole system reliability, especially for the severe typhoon conditions. • Methodologies regarding five primary design aspects are introduced, including (1) mooring analyses; (2) seabed characterisation; (3) anchor capacity and trajectory; (4) anchor installation and additional anchor drag; (5) Evaluation of long-term anchor capacity for permanent mooring systems. The focus of this study is the perceived influence of TV anchors' (presenters) on Chinese television in the past 10 years or so, including the approaches and/or various institutional guidelines and disciplinary measures imposed by government departments and media institutions. Through the case of China Central Television (CCTV) and based on a theoretical framework that draws on the discourse of ‘news culture’, the study explores the different types of ‘anchored’ media presented in the genres of news and current affairs, and tracks the rise of four of China's most popular anchors in these genres. Using a combination of discourse, visual and policy analysis, this article illustrates how the popularity of high-profile anchor people in China since the mid-1990s has created a new type of influence, one not without its limitations but which may also contribute to a ‘public sphere’ with Chinese characteristics. As the largest filled-aperture radio telescope in the world, China's five-hundred-meter diameter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) is supported using a unique ultra-high fatigue stress cable net structure to enable flexible deformation of the reflector. As each of the supporting cables is required to be capable of bearing an ultra-high fatigue stress (up to approximately 500 MPa), a new type of cable anchor is specially designed in this paper to provide required high prestress level in the cables. In this paper, the stress distribution of the steel strands inside the chilled cast anchor is analyzed, a method for adjusting the prestress force of the cable anchor is developed which can effectively reduce the stress concentration of the steel strands inside chilled cast anchor. In this paper, we consider water surface object detection in natural scenes. Generally, background subtraction and image segmentation are the classical object detection methods. The former is highly susceptible to variable scenes, so its accuracy will be greatly reduced when detecting water surface objects due to the changing of the sunlight and waves. The latter is more sensitive to the selection of object features, which will lead to poor generalization as a result, so it cannot be applied widely. Consequently, methods based on deep learning have recently been proposed. The River Chief System has been implemented in China recently, and one of the important requirements is to detect and deal with the water surface floats in a timely fashion. In response to this case, we propose a real-time water surface object detection method in this paper which is based on the Faster R-CNN. The proposed network model includes two modules and integrates low-level features with high-level features to improve detection accuracy. Moreover, we propose to set the different scales and aspect ratios of anchors by analyzing the distribution of object scales in our dataset, so our method has good robustness and high detection accuracy for multi-scale objects in complex natural scenes. We utilized the proposed method to detect the floats on the water surface via a three-day video surveillance stream of the North Canal in Beijing, and validated its performance. The experiments show that the mean average precision (MAP) of the proposed method was 83.7%, and the detection speed was 13 frames per second. Therefore, our method can be applied in complex natural scenes and mostly meets the requirements of accuracy and speed of water surface object detection online. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Traditional incision repair and minimally invasive repair for acute Achilles tendon repair have limitations. This study aimed to present our series of 23 patients with acute Achilles tendon rupture that was repaired using two small incisions to assist the anchor repair of the tear and a new “circuit” suture technique. Methods: This was a retrospective study of 23 patients with acute Achilles tendon rupture treated with the new technique at Changhai Hospital between January 2015 and December 2016 and followed up for 14–33 months. Clinical outcome was assessed using the AOFAS, Leppilahti, and Arner-Lindholm scores. Complications, range of motion (ROM), and time to return to work and light sport activity were assessed. Results: The AOFAS score was 85–96 at 3 months and 92–100 at 12 months. The 3-month ROM was 27°–37°, and the 12-month ROM was 36°–48°. The Leppilahti score was 85–95 at 3 months and 90–100 at 12 months. The recovery time of the patients was 10–18 weeks. The postoperative recovery time to exercise was 16–24 weeks. There was only one case of deep venous thrombosis. According to the Arner-Lindholm assessment criteria, patient outcomes were rated as excellent in 20 (87.0%) cases, good in three (13.0%) cases, and poor in 0 cases. The excellent-to-good rate was 100%. Conclusion: The limited-open procedure combined with a single-anchor and “circuit” suture technique could be used to repair torn Achilles sites, with a low occurrence of complications.
